what’s the most Minnesotan wheel you can think of
That’s probably not something you’ve given much though to
But being a wheel company based in Minnesota
In and effort to make the most ‘Minnesota’ wheels possible
HED recently teamed up with two other Minnesotan companies
to create the ultimate fat bike wheelset (which in itself is pretty Minnesotan)
For the starting point of this Limited Edition wheelset
HED offers their Big Deal 26″ or Big Half Deal 27.5″ carbon fat bike rims
single wall carbon rims that allow you to run tubeless tires without any rim tape – which cuts the overall weight down even further
each nipple has a washer with its own seal to provide the air tight rim channel
The rims also still use their Inflatobam system which uses Inflatobands (big rubber bands) to allow you to adjust the diameter of the rim channel to get different tires to seat properly
they do include limited edition decals meant to convey the magic of the Northern Lights
the special edition Onyx ‘Black Aura’ hubs include a speckled
The Minnesotan touch to put these wheels over the top is a set of Berd Polylight spokes in black
Often referred to as “the world’s lightest spokes”
the spokes are made from a braided polymer that results in a super light spoke with high strength and excellent vibration damping
The result is a complete wheelset that weighs in at just 1,740g for the 26″ Big Deal or 1,800g for the 27.5″ Big Half Deal
for the true weight comparison you’ll need to compare those weights against other wheels with the necessary rim tape included
the Big Deal and Big Half Deal Made in Minnesota Limited Edition wheels are priced at $3,200 per set
and they’re available until January 15th
Options include a 177 x 12 or 197 x 12 rear hub with Shimano HG or SRAM XD driver

carbon spokes and rims to cut down on weight…ok wait a second
depends on the brand but my Schwalbe Jumbo Jim 26×4 are in the 1,050 gram range
“allow you to run tubeless tires without any rim tape – which cuts the overall weight down even further”
“The rims also still use their Inflatobam system which uses Inflatobands (big rubber bands)…”
I didn’t have to use the Infatobands on most tires
but I’d like to see a build weight with lighter hubs
My last set of bfd 26 were lighter than this with regular spokes
but if I’m spending more on the wheels than my entire Otso Voytek (also a MN company!)
Otsos aren’t actually made in Minnesota
If I had the spare cash I’d but them…….
Almost makes the “regular” version of these complete wheels seem like a bargain at $1999.00
If You want true “ultimate fatbike wheelset”
then swap Onyx hubs for Tune King/Kong – the former are really heavy (even Hope hubs are lighter) – You can save 350g for that one change
those would look good on my new Miami Vice/Jawbreaker purple Mukluk
But they cost twice as much as my bike did
How about HED Emporia GC rims with the Onyx Vesper hub
The whole fatbike isn’t silent at all – when the tires roll
You can hear it from a long distance away (got one so I know it all too well)
Besides – some people like loud freehubs
Sorry but the Kuroshiro (Italian brand) made a fatbike wheels much lighter without Berd’s spokes…
lolol a lightweight wheel for a fat bike… seriously guys…

PALM BAY – The developers who plan to build Emerald City are talking with city officials about partnering to build a new City Hall campus near the future Interstate 95 interchange north of Micco Road
Plans for the long-discussed Emerald City have detailed about 3,500 homes
a medical facility and a business and technology park surrounding the I-95 interchange
"We're looking at developing that property regardless
what can that do to enhance the development
in the course of enhancing the development
to benefit the city by bringing in impact fees
chief executive officer of Zons Development
Paluzzi made those comments Tuesday night during an interview immediately after a Palm Bay City Council workshop
council members discussed the potential sale of today's 19-acre City Hall complex at the southeastern corner of Minton and Malabar roads
said his company has about 1,700 acres under contract around the future I-95 interchange in partnership with Kaufman Jacobs
Interchange construction is scheduled to start next June
Today's 19-acre City Hall parcel includes the City Hall annex
which opened in September 2011; the old City Hall
located behind the annex; the police station; Fire Station 2
which opened in 1982; and the council chamber building
The large majority of the land is parking lots and green space
Market value of the entire property is $7.56 million
Brevard County Property Appraiser's records show
Holton said the sale price would likely exceed that sum
who publicly introduced the idea last month
said he prefers to "carve out" Fire Station 2 from the 19 acres and keep the facility in operation on Malabar Road
Santiago said the City Hall annex debt is about $5 million
and sale proceeds could be used to tackle that and Palm Bay's $162 million road-repair deficit
Council members stressed that the idea remains in the discussion stage
City Manager Gregg Lynk echoed that sentiment after the workshop
We're going to continue to explore to see what makes the most sense
We've got some homework that we have to do here," Lynk said
A procession of 10 skeptical residents criticized the proposed City Hall sale and complained about a lack of information about "Viera South" from the public-comment podium
Critics included former mayor John Mazziotti
Florida House District 53 candidate David Kearns
and former council members Sue Ladow and Ken Greene
But if you start running when you're still in the crawling stage
you'll take the whole city with you when you do it," he said

These natural beauties can wreak havoc on your home's foundation if left unchecked
High-quality LED light painting flashlights are challenging to find at any price
I wanted a lot out of a flashlight for light painting but without laying out a lot of cash
There were six features that I decided were very important
I wanted a high-quality warm white light. Using the ProtoMachines LED2
I always had a slightly warm light and felt that it was more flattering than colder white lights
A flashlight with warm light is generally between 3000K to 4000K
“CRI” stands for “Color Rendering Index.” It’s a measurement of how natural colors render under artificial white light as compared to sunlight
It’s measured on a scale of 0 to 100
the truer colors should look under its light
a CRI of 80 and above is considered good for a flashlight
I had enough batteries to take in and out of devices
I felt that if I could have a flashlight that I could simply recharge without having to remove batteries
that would help ease the workflow a little
The reason for this is probably self-explanatory
I don’t want the same brightness all the time when I am light painting
I was hoping to find a light with at least four brightness levels
If I could find a flashlight that ramped its brightness
I already had some light including the ProtoMachines
Keeping the flashlight in my pocket would also be a bonus
this was the easiest of the features to find
I didn’t want to spend too much money on a backup light painting flashlight
I set my purchase price at a maximum of $60
This included the Convoy M3-C GT FC40 high CRI flashlight
This was a slightly chunky flashlight that seems to be revered by flashlight enthusiasts
and I was going on a trip in less than two weeks
It was about $40-45 and seemed to meet all the requirements
Several of my friends use Coast HP7R or HP5R flashlights
they only had two brightness settings: high and low
they did have a handy zoom feature for controlling the width of the light
I made a mental note to myself that this could be a very complementary flashlight to what I was looking for
but they were often a little higher than my budget allowed
Somehow, I stumbled upon the Wurkkos FC11 pocket LED flashlight
where the little flashlight roars into action
throwing out a blinding 1300 lumens of bright light
I would probably not ever need this for light painting
but it’s cool to know that I can now be seen from outer space
The Wurkkos FC11 uses a highly-regarded Samsung LH351D high CRI emitter
which means that I could dunk this in water up to one meter
Good to know in the highly unlikely event that I drop it in a bottle of Gatorade
I met up with my friend Tony Donofrio at the Mojave Desert Heritage and Cultural Association along historic Route 66 in Goffs, CA. They have an amazing outdoor museum full of cars
and many more historic items from yesteryear
it’s night photography light painting paradise
The Wurkkos FC11 was immediately a joy to use
You could immediately see an amazing amount of detail in anything that it illuminated
not having any real hot spots in the center to mar any light painting
Having the ability to ramp the brightness was also amazing
I looked at the screen at the back of my camera and smiled
I had another flashlight to augment the ProtoMachines
Both are probably things that you could chalk up to getting used to a new flashlight
I found myself wishing that the ramping were about half as fast
The other challenge was that several times
I clicked on the button several times to turn it off
I’ve since used the flashlight several more times
I’m willing to chalk this up to some inadvertent operator error
I used the Wurkkos light for the rest of the evening
Although I didn’t always use it for light painting since I already had the ProtoMachines
This included illuminating the subject so I could use autofocus as well as general flashlight use
It’s very compact size meant that I could easily keep it with me at all times
I’m not really sure what I would use this for at this moment
but it’s good to know that it’s there if I need it
It produces many different colors and has extremely high-quality light
But it’s also in very short supply and typically sells for over $450
That a $30 flashlight can keep up with it when using the color white is astounding
This also shows how much LED flashlights have advanced in the last 10 years
Despite the two little hiccups I experienced briefly
I will be keeping the light around for just about everything
Do you have a favorite flashlight for light painting

It really is amazing to see how far portable lighting technology has come while at the same time getting cheaper
LED lighting keeps getting both better and less expensive
This is a great pick-up for someone who doesn’t want to spend a ton of money but still wants great results from light painting
I have two unwieldy 3 D-cell Maglites that I haven’t used for a long time
Smaller is better and I’m sure I could put a colored gel on the Wurkkos
it’s very easy to use with a colored gel in front
I actually put it to use last week during a great Northern Lights display to light up the railroad caboose in my front yard while the aurora was overhead .
really happy with the color and the variable controls

PALM BAY — Next month, city officials will discuss rezoning the eastern portion of the long-anticipated Emerald City to allow construction of up to 1,260 homes and 1.25 million square feet of commercial
This vacant 723-acre property along the east side of Interstate 95 will border the future St
which will be located about 1.5 miles northwest of Micco Road
Construction is scheduled to start in summer
and the interchange will serve as the gateway to Emerald City
the Palm Bay Planning and Zoning Board/Local Planning Agency tabled the Emerald City rezoning proposal until January at the request of the developer
Conceptual plans for the full Emerald City surrounding the interchange — including adjacent land west of I-95 — detail roughly 3,500 homes
additional mixed-use development and a hospital
creating Palm Bay's new urban "town center." The plan is not new: When the Palm Bay City Council cast comprehensive-plan votes on the project in May 2009
construction was projected to start in 2012 with full build-out in 2021
The 723-acre tract on Wednesday's agenda could be zoned for up to 930 multi-family units and 330 single-family houses
At least 50 percent of this property is located in a special flood hazard area

Bill Battin questioned whether the city could sustain development of Emerald City and Palm Vista
a proposed community of 2,930 homes off Emerson Drive at the city's northwestern fringe
He served as vice chairman of last year's Road Maintenance Ad Hoc Working Group
“We’ve expanded the city significantly in land mass from north to south and east to west
We don’t have enough maintenance of our roads to maintain the ones we have — yet we’re expanding it out," Battin said from the public-comment podium
"I want better management of my city land mass
Mayor William Capote replied to Battin's comments
I’m stuck in what we need to do for the future of this city
And if I have to develop a quadrant to the northwest and a quadrant to the southeast to be able to meet the needs of The Compound and everything else
I think that 10 to 20 years out the residents of the city will be clapping for the fact that all these elected officials that were here made those decisions
And I can sleep good at night,” Capote said

Wednesday night's matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans has been postponed due to extreme weather in the New Orleans area
The date for the rescheduled game will be announced later
The Bucks are struggling to get out of New Orleans, putting their Thursday night home game with the Miami Heat in jeopardy, according to Marc J. Spears of Andscape
New Orleans was hit with 8 inches of snow Tuesday, nearly tripling the greatest snowfall in the city's recorded history, according to Heather Zons of The Weather Channel.
This is the fourth time this month the league has had to postpone a game. The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers had home contests against the San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Hornets, respectively, rescheduled because of wildfires in the L.A. area.
A contest between the Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks was also changed because of a winter storm in Atlanta.
Milwaukee is riding a four-game winning streak and sits fourth in the Eastern Conference.
New Orleans, meanwhile, is 12-32 but has won its previous three contests.

Because of the natural beef flavoring in McDonald’s fries
they’re just not an option for people who don’t eat meat

In 2013, a long-time Burger King employee in Vancouver, Canada was fired over a fry-based misunderstanding
in which she took home a medium fry and orange soda after her manager said she was only given permission to take home a fish sandwich
took Burger King to court and was awarded $46,000 dollars in damages
A rumor circulated online that the only way to get fresh fries from McDonald’s is to ask for “unsalted” fries, thereby forcing employees to whip up a fresh batch. But what kind of maniac goes to McDonald’s for unsalted fries? Redditor u/Daallee debunked that lifehack in a post
“If you are waiting to have your order taken and you notice that the large box of fries in the back of what I like to call “the incubator” has been there a while (which does happen when business is slow)
you may ALWAYS ask for fresh fries,” they said
You can pry these french fries from my cold
According to a recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
people who consumed fries more often had a higher risk of dying
