With this year’s major enduro championship season put to bed
The 2025 EnduroGP World Championship calendar was already provisionally announced in the summer
but all eight GPs and their venues have been nailed down by the series promoters
An early start (in comparison to some seasons) in April running through to mid-October moving from the drier climbs of Portugal and Spain at the start to traditional enduro territory in Wales
The series has a pattern of alternating which rounds and nations topping and tailing the season with Portugal and Spain opening the series next year and a conclusion in Germany come Autumn
and Wales form the middle part of the year before next year’s International Six Days Enduro in Bergamo
brings a break (July accepted) in August 24-29
Then follows a busy end to the GP season with three rounds across six weeks – in Requista
Italy during September followed by the final round in historic Zschopau
The 2025 FIM Women’s Enduro World Championship will take place across four rounds once again
equally spaced across the calendar from start to finish
Round 1: GP of Portugal - Fafe - 4-6 April
Round 3: GP of Sweden - Skövde - 23-25 May
Round 4: GP of Romania - Bacau - 20-22 June
Round 5: GP of Wales - Rhayader - 1-3 August
Round 6: GP of France - Réquista - 12-14 September
Round 7: GP of Italy - Darfo Boario Terme - 26-28 September
Round 8: GP of Germany - Zschopau - 17-19 October
Round 2: GP of Wales - Rhayader - 1-3 August
Round 3: GP of France - Réquista - 12-14 September

Former East German City Stages a Moto-Comeback
The small town of Zschopau was once the center of German motorcycle manufacturing
Dampf-Kraft-Wagen (DKW) was founded there in 1922 and
was the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles
DKW’s motorcycle division was rebranded Motorradwerke Zschopau (MZ) in 1956
and built its 2 millionth motorcycle in 1983 before falling on hard times
Privatized in 1990 after German reunification
MZ struggled financially for nearly two decades
Former GP racers Ralph Waldmann and Martin Wimmer purchased MZ in 2009 with the intention of reviving the brand
but their only result so far has been a less-than-successful Moto2 racing effort
is attempting to restore the town’s reputation as a motorcycle manufacturing hotspot
Founded by master carpenter Norbert Vogler and operating in the shadow of the old DKW/MZ factory (now a popular nightclub called “MZWerk”)
ZPmoto currently offers one motorcycle—the unique
Designed by David Negrello (ex-Aprilia) and powered by a liquid-cooled
450cc single sourced from Gas Gas in Spain
the ZPsport is meant to recall the early '60s
when MZ dominated the International Six Days Trials
It’s a brilliant-looking retro-style scrambler; the only thing that isn't old school is the near-$23,000 price

the FIM say despite the best efforts of all concerned
the strict Covid measures put in the place by the Zschopau area’s district administrator and the chief of health means that it is simply not possible to run the event this year
The news is disappointing for all concerned in the event of course but also from a sporting point of view as the Zschopau race is always a cracking one – proper enduro to many and certainly one with it’s own character as you can see from the image from 2017 above
The FIM Enduro Commission is actively looking for a replacement event they say and try to keep this a six round championship
News on this and any updates to the EnduroGP calendar will arrive “as soon as it is possible to do so”
FIM Enduro Commission Director: “It goes without saying that this is hugely disappointing for the 2021 Borilli FIM EnduroGP World Championship and all involved
but as everyone is aware we are still living through unprecedented times
Organising international enduro competitions is challenging at the best of times
but during a pandemic it becomes extremely difficult
We will do all we can to find a replacement event for the 2021 championship and look forward to visiting Zschopau as soon as it is possible to do so.”
The FIM add they would like to thank all involved in the running of the 2021 Borilli FIM EnduroGP World Championship for their continued hard work
and want to deliver a high-level championship despite the difficulties associated with organising events during the ongoing pandemic
Germany was host to the final round of the FIM EnduroGP World Championship over the weekend and champions were crowned in all classes

along with Women and Junior titles were celebrated

While it was KTM’s Josep Garcia who claimed the EnduroGP class win for the weekend
it was GasGas Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona who clinched the 2022 EnduroGP title on Saturday
Jane Daniels (Fantic) also sewed up her championship on Saturday
taking the Magnorange FIM Women’s Enduro World Championship with one day still left on the calendar
all eyes were on the Enduro2 and Enduro3 championships—E1 already claimed by overall champion Verona who claimed an astounding 13 wins from 14 races
Garcia was hoping to keep his E2 title hopes alive with his German GP win
but all it took from Australian rider Wil Ruprecht (TM) was a modest fourth-place finish to secure his first FIM Enduro2 World Championship title
The battle heated up in E3 with Beta’s Brad Freeman and Husqvarna’s Mikael Persson heading into Sunday’s final faceoff tied on points
with Freeman ultimately claiming the title
Team Sherco CH Racing’s Zach Pichon (who had already claimed the Junior title at round six) claimed the Junior1 World Cup
A fourth-place Junior-class finish on the day handed Beta’s Luc Fargier the Junior2 World Cup championship
with a single downtube branching into twin engine supports
I haven’t heard of the fork brand MUPO before
The rest of the components are top-drawer: the brakes are from Brembo
That’s even more than Ducati’s range-topping Panigale 1199 S Tricolore
But the ZPsport 449 seems to be an attractive
I’m hoping there are enough enduro buyers who value rarity and vintage aesthetics

Apart from the obvious regular maintenance and upkeep
“this bike has basically done the full season”
Although Fast Eddy Racing is a well-supported and professional team with a hell of a lot of experience behind it
the stark reality for a privateer team like this bike have to last longer than their factory rivals
It is testimony to Husqvarna and the work of the mechanic of course
Good maintenance has kept this number 18 machine primed for every GP
a handful of the British Enduro Championship rounds and the ISDE in France
Jamie McCanney (No.18) will be joined this weekend by No.118
Jack Edmondson on Husqvarnas which are a bit of a mixture from the motocross TC250F and the TE enduro bikes
Basically they are the TC model (spot the black fuel tank) and the team use the motocross engine with the enduro crank
different gearing and some odd details like the top engine stays because they offer a bit more flex
fingers crossed it can make it through one more weekend.” Edmondson says behind a wry smile
Beta announced their 2023 RR Racing enduro models this week and the biggest update for many was the addition of the KYB rear shock as standard part
It replaces the ZF shock which has been there since forever and not everyone rated
By contrast most people rate the Kayaba suspension and it seems Beta has caught up
We took a look at Steve Holcombe and Brad Freeman’s race bikes in the Beta Factory Racing pit and one of them is
Steve’s mechanic Luca tolds us he has been using the KYB shock for a while now
for the last couple of GPs and the ISDE in France
Freeman’s bike meanwhile is still running the same shock as it has all season
spent a large chunk of the summer off his bike and hasn’t had the testing time to get used to the new KYB part
That’ll come over winter they tell us
It’s not an EnduroGP bike but it is in the GP paddock
Standing staring at someone’s race bike is common practice for us all but a bike fresh from a race
and one which took to the world championship last weekend in Spain
This is Mani Lettenbichler’s 300 EXC which is sitting alongside Josep Garcia’s 350 EXC-F in the KTM Factory Racing awning here in Zschopau
Standout feature on this ‘lightly used
Mani says it didn’t really affect him in the Hixpania race
“It’s been 20 years since I started racing in the world championship
and it’s enough,” says Italian legend Alex Salvini
We think we can call him a legend now since he’s clocked up those years in first motocross and enduro in his two (so far) careers
He’s retiring on a high he says after some rough seasons with injury and finally getting back on the podium at the last GP
helping Team Italia take ISDE second place and ticked off his 15th Italian championship with the 450 4T title
Sunday night will be an emotional one for Alex but you can already see the relief in his face
Alex was tight lipped but there are rally rumours flying about…
The German GP paddock is in its traditional home this weekend
in the grounds of the Old MZ motorcycles factory in Zschopau
It’s a town a couple of hours south of Berlin in the Saxony region set in a rolling hills which are turning orange with Autumn as we write
The old MZ factory itself has lain silent since the manufacturer ceased operations in 1991 with parts of it occupied by modern companies but a huge amount of empty space even now
through one of the lower ground floor doors and you’ll enter a nostalgia fest of enduro
It is like any well-presented motorcycle museum around the world
To our knowledge that makes it unique and something of a Mecca for the sport
memorabilia (Steve McQueen’s riding kit anyone?) from the original ISDT days
hand-built East German bikes you’re never going to have heard of
bikes from manufacturers like Kawasaki and Laverda who you think ‘did they make enduro bikes?’ and more
You can literally watch the evolution of the enduro bikes and the sport over decades
Zschopau is a regular host to major enduro events
in recent years alternating between a GP and Hard Enduro World Championship rounds year-on-year (Getzenrodeo is just up the road)
The final round of the WPT Global EnduroGP World Championship begins tonight
Friday October 14 with a spectacular Super Test under floods lights and with a rumoured 10,000 tickets sold

the Spaniard won the following JUST1 Enduro Test and ACERBIS Cross Test to work his way back into contention
By the end of the second JUST1 Enduro Test
the Spaniard had taken the overall lead and by topping another four tests he went on to claim the EnduroGP class win
“My aim was to fight for the win on both days and hope that maybe luck falls my way for the Enduro2 title,” Garcia explained
but unfortunately the championship wasn’t to be
I feel like I put in a great year but getting injured in Italy put both the EnduroGP and Enduro2 championships out of my reach
I’m happy to have gone out on a high though with two wins here in Germany.”

so to finally lock it down is incredible.”
Brad Freeman arrived at the final day of racing tied on points with Mikael Persson in the Enduro3 class

probably one of the hardest I’ve had battling through injuries
To end it with my eighth world title is amazing.’

Zach Pichon took his 11th victory of the season
Having already clinched the Junior title at round six
Roni Kytonen and Albin Norrbin joined him on the Junior podium in second and third
Finishing fourth saw Luc Fargier also secure the Junior2 World Cup championship
the Enduro Youth World Championship was won by Harry Edmondson
The young British rider held a 14-point advantage heading into the final day of racing but was facing strong competition from teammate Kevin Cristino
After five tests Cristino held the lead over Edmondson with Samuli Puhakainen and Thibault Giraudon not too far behind
Giraudon went on to win the day over Cristino and Puhakainen
Fourth was enough for Edmondson to secure his debut world title
With the Magnorange FIM Women’s Enduro World Championship already wrapped up
Jane Daniels set about securing herself a perfect season
Daniels won every special test to claim victory and remain undefeated in 2022

has been cancelled due to swing fever outbreak in the country
The Fim say the regrettable decision is brought about by the African swine fever outbreak in parts of Europe
specifically at the local hunting ground in Calugara
which overlaps the planned route for the Romania GP transfers and special tests
All parties also say the round will not be replaced so the 2025 calendar drops to seven rounds
Round 4: GP of Wales - Rhayader - 1-3 August
Round 5: GP of France - Réquista - 12-14 September
Round 6: GP of Italy - Darfo Boario Terme - 26-28 September
Round 7: GP of Germany - Zschopau - 17-19 October
