45’ – And that’s the end of the first of our three 45-minute periods, with the score 1-1!
46’ – The second period of play is underway! The only change is Andrew Thomas coming in for Stefan Frei.
54’ – GOALLLLL! João Paulo lays off a peach of a ball for Albert, who takes a touch to his right and slots it across the face of goal to the far post.
56’ – CHANCE! Jordan once again is able to get in behind Aalborg’s defense, this time laying it off for Paul Arriola, who shoots it to the near post, but Aalborg’s goalkeeper makes a spectacular save to keep the ball out of the net.
65’ – About 20 minutes into the second period and we do a complete lineup swap and send in 10 new field players, including Jesús Ferreira making his (preseason) debut for the club!
77’ – GOALLLLLL! We create a turnover right at the top of the box, lays it off to Jesús, who finds a wide-open Snyder for the easy finish!
83’ – CHANCE! Jesús gets a good look at goal but sends it into the side netting.
90’ – That’s the end of the second 45-minute period! We take a 3-1 lead into the last 45.
91’ – And we are underway! Jacob Castro comes in for Andrew Thomas in goal.
93’ – Cody Baker replaces Reed Baker-Whiting.
103’ – GOALLLL! Jesús opens his (preseason) tally for the Rave Green as he calmly slots the ball into the back of the net off a nice feed from Cristian! The striker then comes off as Osaze De Rosario takes his place.
122’ – Aalborg BK gets its second, scored by Jubril Adedji off a rebound by a great initial save from Jacob.
131’ – Aalborg BK gets their third goal of the match, scored by Nicklas Helenius.
134’ – GOALLLL!!! Obed Vargas adds to our tally at the tail end of this one!
135’ – And that’s the end of our second friendly! We get the 5-3 win behind goals from Pedro, Albert, Snyder, Jesús and Obed! Next we play Swedish clubs IFK Norrkøping and Hammarby IF on Wednesday, February 5!

Through the research and development platform MADE FAST
Aalborg University has played a central role in the digital transformation of Sjørring Maskinfabrik
With the university’s knowledge and support
and strengthened both flexibility and growth
By Astrid Helene Mortensen, AAU Communication og Public Affairs
where the roar of machinery and the sharp scent of metal saturate the air
a row of advanced robots stand at attention
These are no ordinary welding machines—they are sleek
shaped by the seamless rhythm of automation.Sjørring Maskinfabrik is in the process of digitalizing and automating its value chain and production
Behind this development lies a close collaboration between Sjørring Maskinfabrik and Aalborg University
which has undertaken the task within the framework of the research and development platform MADE FAST under the Manufacturing Academy of Denmark (MADE).Aalborg University as a technology partnerMADE FAST aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Danish manufacturers through increased flexibility
and sustainable production – supported by digitalization and skilled employees
Aalborg University contributes research and solutions that make it possible for companies like Sjørring Maskinfabrik to implement advanced technology directly into production. With the help of several MADE projects and in close collaboration with Aalborg University
Sjørring Maskinfabrik has established a proof of concept and partially implemented it
thereby creating a digitalized design process and automated programming of welding robots
which has reduced both design and production time. One of the key elements of this improvement is the use of digital product models
These make it possible to program robots to perform complex welding tasks
This allows for the use of technology to ensure high quality and efficiency while keeping costs down and handling more varied production.“It has been extremely challenging because the structures are highly customized
and the trend is that they are becoming even more customized
which requires a solid production foundation so that the robot doesn't have to be reprogrammed for every new welding task,” explains Professor Brian Vejrum Wæhrens from Aalborg University’s Department of Materials and Production
Sjørring Maskinfabrik was close to bankruptcy but turned things around through a strategic shift
Aalborg University helped the company develop a digital product configurator that allows customers to design and order custom-made loader buckets with just a few taps on a screen. The configurator has not only succeeded with loader buckets but also laid the foundation for a more advanced excavator bucket configurator
This solution sends the unique drawing of the bucket directly to production along with all relevant information
allowing the company to quickly produce buckets in many variants. The digital approach has significantly reduced the time it takes to design and generate production documentation compared to traditional methods.“Sjørring Maskinfabrik
in close collaboration with Aalborg University
has created new technological solutions that are truly unique – pushing the boundaries of what’s possible
That’s why the company continues to develop and refine its digital solutions
ensuring it remains a technological leader in its field,” says Klaus Kalstrup
A new chapter for Danish roboticsFor Ioan-Matei Sarivan
the MADE project marks the beginning of something bigger.“I see the work we’ve done during the MADE project as just the beginning of rebuilding a strong industrial ecosystem in both Denmark and Europe,” he says.Several companies from Germany
and Canada have since shown significant interest in the technology developed through the collaboration between Aalborg University and Sjørring
This has led to the establishment of RoboSynapse ApS – a company with ambitions to commercialize a solution for automatic programming of welding robots based on CAD design.“The company will also support metal processing firms aiming for an efficient value chain characterized by high product variation and low volume – a production paradigm in growing demand,” says Ioan-Matei Sarivan. Aalborg University and Sjørring remain key partners in ongoing development
“As a former PhD student at Aalborg University
I consider it a great privilege to have had the opportunity to contribute to this project,” he adds.

Mathias Gidsel i kamp med Henrik MøllgaardČTK / imago sportfotodienst / O.BehrendtMathias Gidsel and Füchse Berlin left no doubt of the outcome when they secured a 40-36 win in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final in Aalborg on Wednesday evening.Füchse Berlin booked their ticket for the Champions League Final 4 after another comfortable win over Aalborg Handball
Aalborg failed to stage a miracle against the Bundesliga league leaders and the Champions League's Final 4 for men will consequently be without the participation of Danish handball teams after Füchse Berlin won the return leg 40-36 and thus won the overall contest with a whopping 12 goals
As in the first match, Mathias Gidsel tormented his Danish compatriots along with team-mate Lasse Andersson
Each of them scored five goals in the first 19 blistering minutes
and with a 14-12 lead to Füchse Berlin on the scoreboard
it looked like the contest was already decided on aggregate
With strong support from the local crowd at the Gigantium Arena, the home side with Thomas Arnoldsen back on the team sheet attempted a comeback even if the defense was lagging
before another couple of Danish goals from Gidsel and Andersson made it 21-20 in Füchse's favor at the break
Norwegian Sander Sagosen did his part to inspire a Aalborg comeback
and keeper Fabian Norsten also produced several good saves after he had replaced Niklas Landin
But the performance was never good enough to really threaten the Germans as the visitors' attacking play was far too exuberant
Gidsel and Andersson both scored four goals in the second half while Aalborg veteran Henrik Mollgaard ended up on the sidelines in the last European game of his career after he was injured

equipped with a 10 MW electrical heat pump
will capture energy from underground geothermal water
which will then be transferred to the client's supply area in the northern part of Aarhus
Solar and wind energy have proven to be valuable assets in the green energy transition
but the Earth holds infinite amounts of renewable energy in the form of geothermal heat and this can help to produce energy when the sun is not shining and there is no wind
Innargi and the Danish utility company Kredsløb have entered into a collaboration to bring geothermal heating to the city of Aarhus
The two companies are currently working on a project that
will consist of 14-17 geothermal wells distributed across seven locations in Aarhus
the geothermal system will cover up to 20 percent of the district heating need within the Kredsløb supply area
This is equivalent to the annual heat consumption of 36,000 households
The entire facility is expected to be completed by 2029 and will be the largest of its kind within the EU
is expected to deliver its first sustainable energy during the second half of 2025
Aalborg CSP was selected by Innargi as partner on the project
The company has designed a modular hydrocarbon-based heat pump
capable of handling the - at times - fluctuating flow of the geothermal water while delivering the desired high supply temperature
The complete heat pump station in Skejby will be able to provide up to 18 MW of heat and a temperature of up to 95° C to the local district heating network
“Innargi brings fantastic know-how and deep expertise in geothermal energy
and we share their ambitious goal of creating the most affordable district heating possible” said Svante Bundgaard
“We are extremely honored and proud to contribute with our experience in heat pumps
and project management in realizing a groundbreaking piece of district heating infrastructure together with Innargi
“This will potentially benefit cities not only within Denmark but also across Europe.”
In addition to a heat pump station optimized for geothermal energy
a building standard has been designed and constructed that both Innargi and Kredsløb can be used for future geothermal plants
the building design is required to meet specific visual and architectural demands to ensure that it blends into the local environment at the location
“We are very pleased with the solution – and not least the collaboration – we have developed with the team at Aalborg CSP over the past few months” added Lars Bjørn Heineke

Eight days after the dismissal of Menno van Dam, the Aalborg outfit lost 0-1 at home to Vejle in Wichmann's debut
which makes the relegation battle truly exciting before the last four rounds of matches in the league
Vejle and AaB are both below the relegation line with 21 and 23 points respectively
while Lyngby is just above with 23 points and a significantly better goal difference than their bottom rivals

AaB never really managed to put any pressure on the visitors' goal

The burden from the first leg was too huge for Aalborg Håndbold, and Füchse Berlin were again too strong for the two-time EHF Champions League finalists. By winning both quarter-finals in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League 2024/25

the Danes are left with a mountain to climb before the return leg in Northern Jutland
But the German league leaders are set to face a different Aalborg team than last week
It has not escaped the Germans' attention that world champion and Olympic gold medalist Thomas Arnoldsen made a comeback for Aalborg in the past weekend after being out of action for seven matches
"I expect a different match than the first match, not least because Thomas Arnoldsen will probably play. It makes their attacking intentions more lively and dangerous", says Füchse coach Jaron Siewert to the club's website
Thomas Arnoldsen was back for Aalborg on Sunday and scored two goals in the play-off match against Skanderborg AGF
It was his first appearance in a month and a half after he suddenly failed to appear on team-sheets after a match on 8 March
It was not until mid-April that club director Jan Larsen announced that the playmaker needed physical and mental rest
Arnoldsen has also struggled with a form of mental exhaustion earlier in his career
But now Arnoldsen is set to make a comeback in the Champions League against Danish national team-mates Mathias Gidsel, Lasse Andersson in the Gigantium Arena
"It is a big dream to reach the Final 4 in Cologne
They are a world class team especially with the return of Thomas Arnoldsen"
The match will be played at 18.45 CET Wednesday evening
The worst-case scenario is that Martins will be forced to undergo surgery
as it is far from the first time that his shoulder has not stayed in place
"It is not the first time that he has dislocated his shoulder. So unfortunately there is a high risk that he will have to have surgery. And then the season could be over. We will only know for sure on Tuesday, when he will scanned", said Aalborg director Jan Larsen to TV 2 Sport
For Aalborg this is devastating news as Thomas Arnoldsen is also ruled out for an indefinite period of time which could weaken the Danish champions' chances in the coming weeks, where the next task is on Thursday against Füchse Berlin in the Champions League quarter-finals
If Miguel Martins is expected to have an operation, it will also mean that he has played his last match for Aalborg as he will leave the club in the summer for Dinamo Bucharest
Two minutes before the end, national team player Emil Bergholt put Skjern ahead by one goal and in the subsequent attack, Sander Sagosen threw the ball directly into the hands of an opponent with just 30 seconds left on the clock
the hosts followingly struggled to break through the Aalborg defense which could otherwise have decided the game in their favor
When the referees' then called passive play on the home side
held on to the ball for too long and was shown a red card while Aalborg were awarded a penalty with just ten seconds left on the clock
Norwegian international Sebastian Barthold then made no mistake from seven meters to save at least a point for Aalborg who
had led the game by two and three goals for the majority of the match thanks to a strong performance from goalkeeper Niklas Landin
Despite the late equalizer Aalborg will no doubt be unhappy with the result which at the same time was a bad prelude to their Champions League quarter-final against Füchse Berlin on Thursday night
The Danes won 33-30 over bottom team RK Zagreb
who were fighting to stay alive in the tournament
Thanks to the win the home side secured at least third spot in their group, and should they at least draw with French outfit Nantes in a weeks time
they will move into second place and thus gain a direct ticket to the quarter-finals
The Croatian visitors were ahead 17-15 at the break partly thanks to the Croatian national team player Filip Glavas
turned into the leading scorer of the match
Aalborg turned up the heat in the last 30 minutes after a much-needed break
Thomas Arnoldsen was decisive for the comeback
but in general there was improvement all round the Danish side without it ever becoming an exuberant performance
Aalborg's began brightly, but looked like boys against men in the last 40 minutes, when the Danes met Füchse Berlin led by an outstanding World Handball of the Year Mathias Gidsel in the first of two quarter-finals in the Champions League
The North Jutland team was ahead throughout the first half away against th Germans, who responded well in the second half and ended up winning the match 37-29
Aalborg are therefore left with a mountain to climb Wednesday next week if they are to book their ticket for the Final Four event in Cologne later this year
Aalborg coach Simon Dahl was disappointed that it ended in a big defeat after the positive start, when the Danish champion team was ahead by six goals during the first half.
"We were not clinical enough. We did not profit enough from the first good 20 minutes. We conceded too many stupid and easy goals. But nothing is decided. We are ready to attack the game in Aalborg next week", said Simon Dahl to dr.dk.
Jonas Vingegaard has begun his preparation for his main goal: the Tour de France. The planned schedule leading up to the Tour, including altitude training camps and the Critérium du Dauphiné, remains unchanged.
The specific build-up to the Tour de France for Jonas started this week with a wind tunnel test in Aalborg, Denmark. Soon, the Danish rider from Team Visma | Lease a Bike will head to Sierra Nevada for high-altitude training with the team. This will be followed by the Critérium du Dauphiné. After that race, there will be another altitude training camp in Tignes as the final preparation for the big goal in France.
During this year’s Tour de France, Jonas and the other Team Visma | Lease a Bike riders will wear a special edition kit, which will be officially unveiled on April 25.
Jonas: “This week I was working in the wind tunnel in Aalborg. We made preparations for the Tour de France there, specifically focusing on my position on the bike. It’s important to work on that and to leave nothing to chance.”
No more physical complaintsPhysically, everything is back to normal for Jonas: “The focus is now fully on the Tour de France. The preparations for this race have truly begun. I no longer have any issues from the concussion I sustained earlier, or any other physical problems. It was really unfortunate that I couldn’t finish Paris-Nice and also had to miss the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. But now I’m training without any problems and will soon head to the altitude camp.”
“I’m really looking forward to racing again. I haven’t raced much this past year, so I’m eager to get started again. That goes for both the Critérium du Dauphiné and, of course, the Tour de France. But first, I’ll go to altitude training to get in shape. After that, I’ll try to win those races.”

Hernes joined the club in September 2023 from Shrewsbury Town, where he made his senior debut, and was involved in Eddie Howe’s matchday squad for trips to Aston Villa and Fulham last season.
Hernes now heads to the Danish top-flight to join an Aalborg side currently sitting ninth in the Superliga. Everyone at the club wishes Travis well for his time on loan in Denmark.

DAY REVIEW: Hungarian side sole leaders in group A; defending champions strengthen lead in group B of Machineseeker EHF Champions League
The Machineseeker EHF Champions League resumed after the winter break on Wednesday
and all four group B games delivered blinding scenarios and impressive handball action
Two of the three early games came down to the wire
with the result being decided in the last seconds
Aalborg took the two points against reigning champions Barça in the Match of the Week
After leading by five goals at various points
the Danish side saw their opponents come back
who stopped a penalty throw after the buzzer
Zagreb and Magdeburg are in a tight race for the play-offs
and all three clubs won their respective games on Wednesday
While Magdeburg bounced back from a couple of losses before the break to take the points in Kielce
Kolstad retained an early advantage until the end against Nantes and Zagreb surprised Szeged
MOTW: Aalborg Håndbold (DEN) vs Barça (ESP) 36:35 (23:18)
The first half of Match of the Week was like a perfect dream for Aalborg
as Thomas Arnoldsen scored five to help his team net 23 times in the first part of the game — their biggest tally this season
But the centre back not only made the most of every opportunity
The danger seemed to come from everywhere on the Danish side
Barça took 20 minutes to warm up before finally finding their rhythm
Barça were still alive at the break thanks to Dika Mem’s five goals
French back-court players Dika Mem and Timothey N’Guessan — who scored nine and eight
respectively — were elemental in the comeback
the hosts were saved by goalkeeper Niklas Landin
earning himself the Player of the Match award
but he stopped Melvyn Richardson’s last attempt to level the score after the buzzer
allowing his team to inflict on Barça their second defeat of the season
Kolstad Håndbold (NOR) vs HBC Nantes (FRA) 29:28 (18:11)
The first five minutes of the game proved that Kolstad were not going to deliver a performance as lacklustre as they did in October in Nantes
with left back Simen Lyse scoring three in the opening minutes of the game
the hosts were up by four after just seven minutes played (7:3)
Kolstad did not let the momentum go either
as they managed to concede only 11 goals in the first half
the Norwegian side created a huge gap on the scoreboard — a gap that reached its peak at seven goals at the break (18:11)
The second half followed a completely different pattern
After Kolstad increased their advantage to nine goals at the 34th minute
Ivan Pesic finally found the solution to make some crucial saves and give his teammates some balls to score
Not taking any goals between minutes 51 and 58
the French side managed to come back within one with one minute left to play
Nantes had the ball to even the score on the buzzer
OTP Bank - PICK Szeged (HUN) vs HC Zagreb (CRO) 26:27 (13:15)
Both teams took a while to warm up offensively
as the defences had the upper hand in the first quarter of the game
Szeged managed to remain in the game when Zagreb put their feet to the pedal
the visitors took a maximum advantage of two goals at the 27th minute
when the left back netted a second shot in a row
The Croatian outfit retained their advantage until the break
after Timur Dibirov found an open shot to allow his team to head to the dressing room leading by two (15:13)
Things even improved for Zagreb after the break
the Croatian side created an even bigger gap
with Matej Mandic stopping some important shots
When Ihar Bialiauski netted his second goal in the 43rd minute
Despite the hosts making a desperate charge and coming back within one in the last five minutes of the game
Zagreb remained on top to take two very important points
Industria Kielce (POL) vs SC Magdeburg (GER) 25:29 (10:16)
Magdeburg dominated the first half of the game
Nikola Portner made five saves in the first 30 minutes
but the German side also delivered an amazing defensive performance overall
Thanks to the welcome return of Felix Claar
The Swedish centre back scored five in the first half alone
helping his team increase their advantage on the scoreboard little by little
and that distance had doubled at the 24th minute and remained at six goals at the break (16:10)
The gap increased to eight goals 15 minutes before the end of the game
as Magdeburg goalkeeper Sergey Hernandez caused dismay for penalty shooters
But Kielce finally came together in the last quarter of the game
While Alex Dujshebaev struggled a little offensively
his brother Daniel took on offensive duties
scoring six in the match and helping the Polish side reduce the deficit to three goals in the 54th minute
as SCM kept their calm in the last minutes
Nikola Portner made a couple of decisive saves and when Matthias Musche scored his seventh goal
it was clear the points were going to the visitors
CO2-neutral cooling solution can deliver heat to nearby buildings
and R&R Consult have teamed up on a data center heat reuse project in Denmark
and send surplus heat to the district heating network and local buildings
the companies have developed a new condenser
That heat is then sent to the district heating system via a closed circuit
a technology developer from Aalborg University
the cooling technology is adapted to the servers and has the same efficiency and waste heat temperature as would be seen with water cooling
Details about the cooling method have not been shared
DCD has contacted the Energy Cluster Denmark for more information
said: "The projection on data center power consumption is enormous - we are most likely talking a factor of three within the next twenty years
which are coming to an even greater extent than before
we see significant market potential in offering alternative cooling solutions."
Mortenson added: "The collaboration with Aalborg University and Energy Cluster Denmark has been unique
We have seen a formula for how to achieve an innovation that makes a difference in a relatively short time.”
In November 2023, Aalborg University conducted a study looking at how district heating systems
including using local waste heat from other sectors
could reduce natural gas imports by 24 bcm by 2030
and by 2050 the untapped resources could cover twice the needed district heating level
Data centers were among the waste heat sources Aalborg cited
Energy Cluster Denmark is the cluster organization for Denmark's energy sector
and is working towards greening the nation through energy solutions
in 2025 Danish data centers are expected to consume 3,600 GWh annually
which corresponds to around a tenth of Denmark's total electricity consumption
In Germany, following the implementation of the September 2023 Energy Efficiency Directive
data centers will have to report on how they use their waste heat
and data centers over 200kW built from 2025 will be required to reuse 20 percent of their heat by 2028
In the UK, Deep Green uses waste heat for local swimming pools

In an ideal scenario, Henrik Møllgaard still has three Machineseeker EHF Champions League matches on German courts coming up as an Aalborg Håndbold player
One is guaranteed — the MOTW at Füchse Berlin in the first leg of the quarter-finals on Thursday
if Møllgaard and Aalborg advance to the TruckScout24 EHF FINAL4 in Cologne in June
which would be a fitting end to Møllgaard’s playing career before he becomes an assistant coach at one of his former clubs: Paris Saint-Germain Handball
the 40-year-old Danish defence specialist has already been part of the EHF FINAL4: three times with PSG
with the French side in 2017 and both times with his current club
but his memories from those trips to LANXESS arena are still outstanding
But being there in 2024 with Aalborg and all of our fans was extremely special
but in the end we were only one ball possession away from the ultimate goal and dream,” Møllgaard recalls
Another participation in Cologne will come up if Aalborg manage to advance from their quarter-final against Füchse Berlin. The away game in Germany — the Match of the Week in the first leg — is scheduled for Thursday (24 April) at 20:45 CEST (live on EHFTV)
While Møllgaard and Aalborg qualified directly for the round of the last eight teams as runners-up to defending champions Barça in group B
We had some amazing games both away and at home,” Møllgaard says
we got the results we needed to qualify directly for the quarter finals
Møllgaard experienced a change of head coach when Aalborg replaced Maik Machulla in November with his former assistant Simon Dahl
though it didn’t change the defender’s role in the team
as he remained “still 100 percent player” instead of taking up a task as playing coach
Møllgaard is in his second stint with Aalborg
after playing for AAB from 2009 until 2012
He was with Skjern Håndbold for the next seasons but spent the last of those four on loan with PSG
Thierry Omeyer and Mikkel Hansen at the only foreign club in his career
Møllgaard stayed in France for three seasons until returning to Aalborg in 2018
he faced Füchse Berlin for the one and only time – in the final qualification round of the EHF Cup
The Danish side won the home encounter 31:29 but lost the return in the German capital 28:23
Playing EHF competitions is also about experience,” Møllgaard looks back
Aalborg this time have the advantage of playing the second leg at home
“Having the reverse fixture at home is often very decisive
We needed the help and pressure from our fans to make it to Cologne last season against Veszprém
But hopefully we will win both games and then it won’t matter,” the Danish defender says
Aalborg vs Berlin is a duel of world-class Danes
as the tie includes the likes of Møllgaard
and Lasse Andersson and Mathias Gidsel on Füchse’s side
but of course we need to control the damage
We have to find ways to control the pace and the game in general
and that job starts with Mathias and Lasse,” Møllgaard says
“But we can’t ignore that the whole Berlin squad is extremely talented and they are playing at a high level every game
The Danes are not the only guys who stand in the way of our dreams.”
his high handball IQ and greed for every ball is amazing to see
He is just a big kid with a passion for handball
Møllgaard hopes to go all the way in the EHF Champions League and get to another final: “Another participation in Cologne would be the perfect way to end things
I have had my fun and loads of amazing experiences through handball
His next task in handball will bring him back to Paris
where he starts his coaching career as the assistant of former Aalborg coach Stefan Madsen
who will take over at PSG as successor of Raul Gonzalez this summer
I am really looking forward to this challenge,” Møllgaard says
“I know that I am in good hands with Stefan
and I am sure that our cooperation will be very strong
But I have no idea how I will react after stepping away from the fun side
I believe that I can bring something special
but I still can’t believe that my days as a player are over.”

With Julien Bos at his best and Ignacio Biosca making some crucial saves
the French side took a four-goal lead after 17 minutes (11-7)
Aleks Vlah was in insping form for the visitors but despite his goals and assists, Aalborg were never able to close the gap before the break
And with Ayoub Abdi scoring one last lucky goal just before half-time
Nantes maintained their momentum as they led 18-14 at the interval with the Champions League quarter-finals firmly in sight
things immediately deteriorated for the French team right after the restart when Nicolas Tournat received a direct red card by the referees
Nantes struggled to pose the same challenge for the Danish defense
and Aalborg began to close the gap on the scoreboard
Thanks to the power of Marinus Munk and a couple of saves from Fabian Norsten
the visitors gradually completed their comeback when they equalised 15 minutes before the final whistle (24-24) to set up a tense end to the game
both teams had their chances to take the three points
Ivan Pesic made two crucial saves in the dying seconds
but it wasn't enough for the home side to regain the upper hand
And when Thibaud Briet’s final attempt failed to reach the goal
the Danes were left to celebrate their qualification for the quarter-finals

Aalborg booked their ticket for the Danish Santander Cup Final Saturday night with a 24-22 win and will face Bjerringbro-Silkeborg in the final.Sonderjyske put up a great fight throughout the match
but Aalborg kept their nerves in a dramatic finish and advanced to the cup final
Aalborg were in trouble for long periods of Saturday's cup semi-final against Sonderjyske
but in the end Aalborg's greater experience made the difference
It all ended with a 24-22 win for Aalborg
who in Sunday's final will meet Bjerringbro-Silkeborg
who earlier on Saturday secured a comfortable win against Grindsted in the second semi-final
There was far more excitement in Saturday's late semi-final
where Sonderjyske reduced the score to 21-22 with six minutes remaining
while Sonderjyske squandered several great opportunities
Sonderjyske keeper Julius Sten attempted to score in an empty net at the other end with the score at 22-21 in Aalborgs favor
who scored himself to make it 23-21 a minute later
Aalborg winger Kristian Bjørnsen made it 24-21 with less than four minutes left
Aalborg then followingly failed to add further goals to their lead but it also proved unnecessary anyway
Sonderjyske were only able to reduce once through August Wiger to 22-24 and it proved costly that the outsiders wasted two penalties in the final two minutes
The final will take place Sunday afternoon
HBC Nantes are on the brink of the quarter-finals of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League
The 2018 finalists can book a direct ticket by beating Aalborg Håndbold in the Match of the Week in the concluding round 14 of the group phase on Wednesday
It would mark another highlight in the stellar season of right back Julien Bos
The 2024/25 season has been one hell of a journey for Julien Bos so far
While his first season in Nantes – the club he joined in 2023 after seven years in Montpellier – was promising
his second one has seen him reach heights he had only been dreaming of
but I guess that it took me one year to really settle in my new club
When your teammates are so kind to you and that you connect on the court
And Bos has now forged strong friendships with some of his teammates: “Thibaud Briet or Aymeric Minne are people that I hang out with a lot
And it makes it easier to connect on the court when you are good buddies in real life as well.”
The 26-year-old Bos arrived at HBC Nantes from French league rivals Montpellier Handball prior to the 2023/24 season
He had made his EHF Champions League debut already in 2016/17 but wasn’t part of the all-French final in 2018 when Montpellier defeated Nantes to the title
Bos is Nantes’ third-best scorer with 48 goals – only centre back Aymeric Minne
and left wing Valero Rivera have scored more
Bos also enjoyed his first major competition with the Franch national team in January
he played on the wing rather than on his beloved back-court position but still contributed to France’s run to the bronze medal
Bos picked up where he left when the group phase resumed last month for the final four rounds
“I know some of my teammates feel that their legs are sore
so I guess that every three days fits my body rather well.”
And this is not exactly bad news for HBC Nantes
since they have lost some of their key players over the last weeks due to injury
also including Rok Ovnicek and Lucas de La Bretèche
They will all have to sit out the MOTW against Aalborg Håndbold on Wednesday (live on EHFTV at 20:45 CET)
The Danish side are second in group B with 17 points
in case of a draw: Aalborg – will join already-qualified group winners Barça into the quarter-finals directly
“This game really is like a play-off game for us
I think we could all do with two days off in the spring,” says Bos
referring to the play-offs for the teams that finish the group on the positions third through sixth
An important factor in the MOTW will be Nantes’ legendary legion of fans
“They are recognised as some of the best fans in whole Europe
I played against them (with Montpellier) a couple of years ago
and I could really feel their impact on the game,” Bos says
that they push us in the key moments of the game
I can really feel the boost of energy they give us.”
Aalborg won the reverse fixture in Denmark 38:31 at the start of the group phase last September
Even when Nantes would again not beat Aalborg
Bos finds that his team’s group phase journey is a success
The beat the likes of OTP Bank - PICK Szeged
and earned a draw against defending champions Barça
“We only wanted to qualify for the play-offs
and now we are in the position to make it to the quarter-finals directly,” Bos says
“Let’s be humble to admit that this was not the first plan.”
He has been capped once for the Danish Under-21 national team
The young central defender is overjoyed at the prospect of now playing in the Italian Serie A
"Going to Genoa is a great opportunity for me
It's a great club in a big and strong league
so I'm really looking forward to that."
"At the same time, however, I will miss going out to Aalborgs training center every day to teammates, coaches and everyone else in and around the club. I have been an Aalborg player for three and a half years, so the club feels like my second home, where I have been surrounded by great people", says Sebastian Otoa, who will now become team-mates with countryman Morten Frendrup at Genoa.
Aalborgs sports director James Gow is proud of the fact that Aalborg has been able to develop a player, who will now get a chance to shine in the Serie A:
"Selling a player to one of Europe's Top 5 leagues is confirmation that we are on the right track in terms of our player-development thanks to the enormous dedication from our coaches" says James Gow.
"Today, Sebastian Otoa has developed into an elegant defender who masters virtually all aspects of the game and his potential is enormous", says Gow.
Otoa could potentially already be called into a action when Geoa faces AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico Friday night.
and heterogenous condition putting children and adolescents with overweight and obesity at increased risk for several physical and psychological complications
Childhood obesity is impacted by the interaction of numerous factors
socioeconomic status as well as genetic predisposition
This evidence highlights the need to develop and enhance both preventive and treatment strategies for children and adolescents with overweight and obesity
The aim of this PhD project was to examine the effect of adding 3 months of supervised high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to a 12 months validated multidisciplinary lifestyle intervention on BMI z-score
physical activity behavior and mental health symptoms in children and adolescents with overweight and obesity
In total 173 children and adolescents with overweight and obesity were included and randomized in the project
Ninety children and adolescents participated in the HIIT intervention
The three studies presented in this dissertation collectively indicates that while HIIT did not significantly augment reductions in anthropometric measurements
blood pressure or symptoms of mental health disorders
it did enhance adherence to lifestyle interventions
particularly in participants with severe obesity
the HIIT intervention resulted in a significant improvement in health-related quality of life and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity after three months of intervention
The high prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity highlights the need for integrated multidisciplinary care
This dissertation shows that close collaboration between primary and tertiary care sectors can create an effective and enjoyable physical activity intervention to improve both physical and psychological health parameters in children and adolescents with overweight and obesity

will defend his PhD thesis "Community-based Futuring: Towards Alternative and Meaningful Green Energy-enabled Rural Futures"
Seminar Room: 4.521Rendsburggade 149000 Aalborg
11:00 – 11:05: Moderator Matthias Rehm welcomes the guests
11:05 - 11:50: Presentation by Chris Paulus Muashekele
15:00: Announcement from the committee and reception.
This thesis explores and advances alternative and meaningful green energy-enabled futures in rural African indigenous communities
it highlights the adverse energy access challenge in these communities - and Africa as a whole
The continent has the lowest levels of energy access globally
with over half of its predominately rural population lacking reliable energy
This situation has led to a transition towards greener and more inclusive energy systems
policies and projects driving this transition tend to be deterministic
imposing external models of progress and visions of green energy-enabled futures that fail to align with local contexts
this study embraces an Afrocentric orientation
and community-based co-design and futuring methodologies to prompt locally-grounded and-inspired green energy-enabled use cases
Through a series of iterative research cycles
imagination and collective envisioning of alternative futures
This approach situates communities as agents
determining and designing alternative and meaningful futures based on their values
the thesis contributes to the field of design futuring in rural African Indigenous communities in three main ways: First
it provides methodological and temporal perspectives for applying design futuring in Indigenous settings
an alternative and situated design futuring approach
it develops three associated design futuring avenues – Chameleon Innovation
and Indigenous Future making – to enable rural Indigenous communities to explore alternative future trajectories and possibilities
this thesis promotes agency and self-determination
ensuring that communities shape their own future trajectories as they transition to green energy

SWITZERLAND/DENMARK: MAN Energy Solutions is to supply a further CO2 heat pump to one of the world’s largest naturally-cooled seawater heat pump plants in Aalborg
MAN was originally contracted by Danish multi-utility company Aalborg Forsyning to supply three 44MW heat pump units to the project which is scheduled to start construction next month
The company has now received an order for a fourth unit
bringing the total heating capacity to 177MW
Situated on the northern bank of the Limfjord strait
the district heating plant will use seawater as a heat source
The heat pumps will use electricity from Aalborg Forsyning’s renewable sources to elevate the water temperature from 1-15°C up to 98°C
the plant will supply up to 700,000MWh of heat annually
or equivalent to one-third of Aalborg’s heat production
CO2 emissions are projected to be reduced by up to 210,000 tons annually compared to the city’s coal-fired power plant

More and more hares are appearing in our large cities
according to new research from Aalborg University
A major study confirms that hares are thriving in urban environments
in suburban gardens and green areas — instead

A new study from Aalborg University in Denmark reveals that European hares (Lepus europaeus) are not only surviving—but thriving—in urban environments. Using a combination of citizen science and thermal imaging technology, researchers have documented surprisingly high hare densities in two of Denmark’s largest cities, raising new questions about the role of cities in European wildlife conservation.
“We were surprised to find such high numbers of hares right in the middle of the city. In several areas, the population density rivals or even exceeds that of the best rural habitats in Europe,” says senior researcher Sussie Pagh from the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience at Aalborg University, lead author of the study published in Urban Science.
Across Europe, the European hare has declined significantly due to intensive agriculture and habitat fragmentation. But cities, long overlooked as wildlife habitats, may be offering new hope—especially when urban planning focuses on biodiversity.
“In both cities, local authorities are actively working to reduce pesticide use and promote urban biodiversity. This allows wild herbs and plants to flourish in green areas—plants that hares rely on for food,” says Pagh. “We believe this could be part of the explanation for the high densities, and we’ve now launched a student project to investigate which wild plants are actually growing in urban lawns and used by the hares.”
In central parts of Aalborg and Aarhus, the researchers measured up to 40 hares per square kilometer using thermal monitoring. This figure is significantly higher than typical densities in surrounding farmland.
Professor of conservation genetics at Aalborg University and Aalborg Zoo
The study is based on a combination of nearly 1,900 hare observations submitted by the general public in Aalborg and Aarhus and targeted monitoring using a thermal spotter—a handheld device that detects animals based on their body heat, without the need for disruptive lighting.
“The thermal spotter was key to understanding the actual density of hares in the areas reported by the public. It allowed us to detect them quietly and effectively, even between buildings and cars,” explains co-author Hanne Lyngholm Larsen.
While citizen observations are excellent for identifying hotspots, the researchers found they often overestimate actual population size. By combining both methods, the team could map where hares live, breed, and move throughout the cityscape.
The findings echo a broader trend seen in other European countries where species like foxes, hedgehogs, and badgers are increasingly making cities their homes. With urban areas becoming greener and more ecologically minded, researchers believe hares may become another flagship species for European urban biodiversity.
“If cities can offer better conditions than the countryside—more food and no hunting—they may act as source habitats for regional populations. That’s a shift in how we think about cities, from concrete jungles to key conservation areas,” says Cino Pertoldi, professor of conservation genetics at Aalborg University and Aalborg Zoo.
