Pensacola is set to begin purchasing properties surrounding the Long Hollow stormwater pond as part of the Hollice T. Williams stormwater park expansion. The Pensacola City Council will vote next week to authorize the purchase of 1800 N It’s the first of two dozen properties the city is eyeing to expand the stormwater pond as part of the Hollice T Williams Park project is supposed to increase the stormwater capacity of the city while also transforming the park into a greenway aimed at reconnecting the historically Black and working-class neighborhoods that were split apart by the construction of I-110 in the 1970s The lack of stormwater capacity in the area had devastating consequences in the flood of 2014 and residents of the Long Hollow and North Hill neighborhoods have advocated for increasing the capacity of the stormwater pond there The city is on a three-year ticking clock with the project as it works to use a $25 million federal grant to design the park and build the stormwater upgrades as the first phase Pensacola Mayor Reeves told the News Journal that this land and other properties would help increase the capacity of the stormwater pond “The largest single stormwater impact that the Hollice T Williams project can have is not building a series of new ponds in pipes underneath the interstate It's enlarging and enhancing the existing pond that we have right now,” Reeves said You will still see more stormwater infrastructure in the greenway itself has the largest positive impact that can take place.” The city canceled a lease for a radio tower on city property last month to clear the way for the pond's expansion The property acquisition up for approval on Thursday is a 0.86-acre commercial lot owned by Robert and Betty McNorton The McNorton’s purchased the lot in 1999 for $240,000 The small office building on the property was previously leased to The Lakeview Center for specialty programs but is now vacant Reeves said this will not be the last land purchase made for the project. One large potential land purchase is the old Escambia County Medical Center Clinic at 1750 N Because of the grant deadlines and that design work for the park is underway the timeframe for finalizing land purchases is coming to an end “We have to know the canvas that we're dealing with,” Reeves said “We can't be a year and a half into this project and say Construction is expected to begin next year Lebo Malatse is a content creator and writer 2020: Folding laundry is becoming a hard task for a father (Peter Scanavino) to get through with a young son (Leo Bai-Scanavino) as a sick mother watches from a video call Son says the socks are leaf people and tells a story about them which prompts Dad to ask if she can eat the soup but she is unable to and asks for Dad to get it Son runs to help but luckily Dad catches him in time Son is upset with Dad but he sits and talks to Mom about all he has learned while he tries to put on gloves Dad asks son to sit and fold while he gets candid with Mom on how her health is declining and she’s not eating Mom does not want to risk dying alone in a hospital and prefers the sounds of home I don’t think I can cope seeing a death on this show Animation: Dad catches Son playing with crackers that he found near Mom’s soup He insists that Son washes his hands then explains what germs are and how the antibodies are fighting to help Dad listens to a voicemail sent by his parents They sound like they are trying to help but no bueno.  where we find out that Mom’s name is Anne-Marie He unloads how he is spiraling and can’t believe that they chose his parents to take care of Trevor Lisa is shocked that Greg is telling Trevor that Mom is unsafe and very sick; she suggests that he makes everything more sugar coated for Trevor to handle things Greg tries to call Anne-Marie while he and Trevor are in the bathroom trying to wash clothes in the bathtub because the washer is broken.  Animation: Greg explains the virus to Trevor as a legend We watch as Trevor’s animated self does his best to understand the curse Greg hops on his computer and tries to play a game but hears Anne-Marie cough which prompts him to search creating a will the amount of deaths in the state of Michigan and how kids cope with the death of both parents Trevor wails and cries in his room for his mommy which calms Trevor down a bit as she explains that no curse took Mommy and Daddy doesn’t believe in curses She sings a song to Trevor until he falls asleep Greg and Anne-Marie talk about how the curse came about and what decisions Greg has made in case anything happens to them both Anne-Marie asks to be taken back to Trevor’s room to watch him and Greg fall asleep The song she sang plays as an animation of Trevor flying over a land of people smiling and having fun.  You can’t put a child in front of me and expect me not to feel a thing when all they want is their parents We don’t get to find out what happened with Anne-Marie but I do hope many get to hug their children tonight and all recover from this virus.  check out her site: lbmalatse.wixsite.com/website and journey into the worlds that she creates Our site uses cookies. Queen Viv says when she sees these and indeed they are filled with a soy and halloumi and a very brief smidge of salsa verde I found these needed more seasoning and ended up using some of the flavoured salts on them This tidy morsel of smoked trout was everyone's favourite course It was clean tasting and smoked on the premises and with good clear flavours it had a crispy skin on one side and tender The kangaroo fillet pieces were tender and a good red meat choice and paired with the Jerusalem artichokes a good choice for something different from steak and potato puree The cubes of potato were sauteed in whey and had a creamy almost browned butter flavour with a touch of the tangyness from whey There is also lemon and parsley to lighten these up crunchy house made honeycomb and a lemon thyme creme Although I liked the honeycomb I wasn't sure how to eat it with the rest of the dessert and it could have done without it or been served as a petit four there wasn't a peep of complaint from the special eaters have you ever had a chef's table experience And are you good at picking flavours in food and playing food games Curious about the three salts that we tried 1/169 King Street Newtown New South Wales 2042 Things you buy through our links may earn Vox Media a commission I’m not sure what to describe as the first episode of Social Distance Netflix’s new coronavirus anthology show created by Jenji Kohan and Hilary Weisman Graham the episode that begins playing for me as the first one of the series is called “Delete All Future Events,” and it’s just the kind of awkward unpleasantly topical episode you’re probably already imagining when you hear the phrase “new coronavirus anthology show.” The main character is a barber struggling to maintain some kind of career while stuck at home alone in the early spring lockdowns When I watched Social Distance as the screeners provided for critics “Delete All Future Events” wasn’t the first episode listed It was “A Celebration of the Human Life Cycle,” an episode with an even more eye-roll-worthy theme for a COVID story: A family gathers to have a Zoom funeral (overseen by Oscar Nuñez) for their father/grandfather who had been sick for a long time and died during the crisis There’s a twist at the end of “A Celebration of the Human Life Cycle” that I won’t ruin for you but trust me when I say it’s much less surprising and poignant than the episode makes it out to be The reason I mention the slipperiness about which episode should come first is that there was a bug in my screener episodes the first thing that autoplayed was neither of those two stories The first Social Distance episode I watched was one called “You Gotta Ding-Dong Fling-Flong the Whole Narrative.” Setting aside the dubious wisdom of that title I suspect my experience watching the series was totally reshaped because I watched this episode first the episode is about a couple trapped in their apartment because the wife has COVID Scanavino plays a father who’s desperately trying to entertain their preschool-age child while also FaceTiming with his very sick wife One of Social Distance’s key gimmicks is that it’s told almost completely through technological interfaces The funeral episode takes place entirely over Zoom; the barber episode is told via Instagram the story is told via the father Greg’s phone screen Sometimes he’s calling his sister to talk about how his wife Sometimes his phone displays images from a baby monitor in their son’s room frantically Googling COVID symptoms and trying to figure out at what point he needs to insist Anne go to the hospital a story sprung straight out of my April 2020 nightmares and out of too many people’s lived realities this spring there’s not all that much additional emotional or thematic processing laid on top of the plain story is that Greg cannot skate out of this horrible moment in his life by trying to convince his son that all of this is like a fairy tale and telling Trevor that the virus is actually a mythical beast doesn’t help him understand what’s happening and it doesn’t help him cope with how bad it all feels The problem with so much of the coronavirus storytelling we’ve seen on TV and streaming so far this year — shows like HBO Max’s sour Coastal Elites Freeform’s actively insulting Love in the Time of Corona — is that it has tried to grasp for the kinds of lies that Greg tries to tell his young son It’s not as blatant as changing the virus to a fairy-tale monster (Maybe if they’d made choices that strange and interesting they’d have been better they’ve tried to soften the razor edges of this crisis by translating them into fiction Coastal Elites performed this by simply ignoring what this year has been like for any Americans without access to health care one that displaced all our anxiety about death and destruction onto a minor older character who was already in a nursing home (functionally dead already in this fiction) and then letting everyone else experience quarantine as a time of personal growth the best fiction about real-world trauma does perform some transformation overwhelming experience that can be hard to articulate when we find it in our lives contradictory nuance of those experiences through a fictional filter that illuminates rather than simply describes The struggle to find some insight that goes beyond illustration is something I’ve long noticed with fiction about the trauma and joy of early motherhood So much of its energy goes toward being a mirror to life but when I looked to fiction about new mothers to try to think through my own motherhood I have actual mirrors in my home; I know what it looked like For the best stories about early motherhood (my favorite is the film Tully) there is some additional layer of meaning that further complicates and unravels the experience Coronavirus fiction onscreen is not there yet Stories that help us see our way out of this painful moment those that attempt it have shot for the stars and ended up plummeting back to earth in an arc that feels both depressing and totally inevitable something like this unrelentingly sad episode of Social Distance is actually a relief If we must live through this part where all the fiction loops back to show us the terror of our own immediate past (and it seems like we must) much rather have a faithful mirror than a limp lie about the upsides of a global pandemic Not every episode of Social Distance embraces that kind of clarity An episode about a gay couple considering a throuple aims for goofiness and does not make it There’s one installment starring Dylan Baker and Becky Ann Baker as a couple meant to be achieving their longed-for retirement that’s pretty charming and one about teenagers falling in love through an MMORPG that comes with a big twist that’s both gut-churning and too self-congratulatory who can tell) is one of the other series highlights a story about a young Black man and his older Black employer arguing about the Black Lives Matter movement In spite of Social Distance’s obvious highs and lows I watched the whole series with the memory of that first episode — or the episode Netflix served me as “first” — lingering in my mind It was just such a comfort to watch something about this year that felt truly sad Social Distance doesn’t offer any answers about this moment I’ve realized that I will happily accept some honesty Password must be at least 8 characters and contain: you’ll receive occasional updates and offers from New York The 40 candidates of the pageant served face card after face card in their official glam shots taken by Raymond Saldana and Owen Reyes of Klickbox Studios The ladies looked ethereal in white tube dresses by designers Manny Halasan and Allan Laserna as styled by Patrick Henry Mergano and Jason Tangal did their makeup while Jodi Flong Katalbas Previously, Binibining Pilipinas released the candidates' official head shots and introductions Check out the gallery below for their gorgeous glam shots {{gallery.imageDetails.images.0.description}} Julissa's semifinal rounds are scheduled for 1:30 to 4:30 p.m to which all contestants receive a free annual subscription Semifinals are scheduled for 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center though they won't be broadcast on ION until 7 p.m or DIRECTV and streamed on Tubi and Pluto on Thursday This week, 229 spellers and their families began their adventure at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center near the nation's capital Only 139 made it past the first two rounds of the preliminaries The quarterfinals include both spelling and multiple-choice questions on word meanings Before today, Julissa correctly spelled "calusar" (it's pronounced with an "sh" sound) and "salvific," and knew where she might encounter a "bonsai" ("in a greenhouse") spellers are allowed to ask the pronouncers Dr They can also ask the pronouncer to repeat the word or to use the word in a sentence They have to spell the word before the timer runs out in 90 seconds Most spellers seem to have a strategy of asking as many questions as possible "May I can please have all the information?" Many ask "Am I saying it correctly?" but the pronouncers simply repeat the word Other spellers ask questions about root words; for example asking if the word contains the Greek root "anti" meaning "against." That helps them rule out alternatives But Julissa seems to have a different style For "salvific," she asked only one question: whether the word came from the Greek which could be phonetically spelled "kelushar" or even "colooshaar," Julissa asked no questions at all if not the meaning: "a Romanian hobbyhorse dance done by members of a sworn brotherhood in wild steps and fierce mock combat." the genre and medium has found a home on Philippine shores and its gladiators wield the poetics of cerebral wordplay as tools or weapons “Why make a song if you really have nothing to say?” 21-year-old singer and rapper Fateeha says with a shrug as she sits across her older sister and fellow rapper 24-year-old Miss A who laughs and adds: “Why speak at all?” Daughters of Mindanaoan hip hop pioneer and veteran beat maker DJ Medmessiah the duo write and perform to their father’s beats as the only two female rappers of musical collective Morobeats.  Women in hip hop embody the full spectrum of multiplicities celebrated in the genre which positions themes of self-identity and self-agency as universal when so often the female struggle of self-determination is as personal as it is political.  As young female artists of Maguindanaon ancestry in the relatively young institution of male-dominated Filipino hip hop the sisters are standing on the shoulders of giants – American femcees whose work serve as modes of instruction through which Miss A and Fateeha are free to inject their distinctly Mindanaoan ingenuity with every cypher and verse (see: Lauryn Hill We were ashamed of our heritage,” Fateeha admits saying: “There was a lot of discrimination growing up It’s a real thing and the saddest part is we’re not being discriminated against by foreigners we’re being discriminated against by our own people Hip hop is a genre that does not relegate artistry to exceptionalism celebrates the merits and drawbacks that come to perfecting one’s craft “That’s the thing about hip hop,” Fateeha explains “You have to respect yourself before you can gain respect from others.” “We experienced a lot of bullying and a lot of discrimination we had to go through periods of our lives when we were shamed for it,” Miss A shares about their experience growing up in Luzon: “It took us a lot of education and knowledge for us to get to this point of confidence and just be proud of who we are and our background.” But the lineage of Filipina femcees who have enjoyed the same kind of recognition as their male counterparts remain scarce To emcee in particular is a kind of alchemy and rhyme at varying depths of skill is precisely the challenge that Miss A finds most fulfilling as an artist “It’s the energy of creating something and just channeling my whole perspective my own story and to change it into another form that makes people understand and relate to it,” she explains sharing that despite growing up in a household that nurtured their musicality it was the malleability of hip hop as a vehicle for expression that cemented their interest As an avid reader with a natural aptitude for storytelling Miss A says she poured herself into writing which then grew into a passion for performing altogether.  Fateeha always knew she wanted to be a performer “It’s [performing] such a freeing and empowering feeling I like the attention,” she says with a self-assured laugh people don’t really listen to what you have to say,” Fateeha expounds “I have a lot of opinions that don’t align with other people’s but with music it makes it possible for them to hear me out That’s how I kind of knew that this is what I wanted to do.”  the sisters are also emblematic of a new generation of Filipinas whose strength is defined by generosity Miss A and Fateeha are the faces of a new social force in contemporary Filipino music one that is informed by a fierce tradition of discipline and honor for one’s heritage saying: “Culture is the most luxurious thing to have in your life It’s something a lot of people take for granted or don’t know The richest thing you can have in your life besides gold Being Filipino or having a certain heritage is something to look down on here That’s sad because a lot of people feel disconnected within themselves and struggle with finding themselves because they don’t have the passion for their roots,” says Fateeha “The most beautiful thing someone can have is wisdom My family is so full of wisdom and I think that’s what makes me beautiful.”  Nails: EXTRAORDINAIL Photographer’s Assistant: ROJAN MAGUYON Nobody had ever heard of San Serriffe before April 1 when the Guardian published a special 7-page supplement on the 10th anniversary of that nation’s independence from Britain The archipelago was discovered by the English in 1421 colonised by the Spanish and Portuguese and later annexed by the British ceded to the Portuguese and later for some time a condominium between the latter two nations San Serriffe gained its independence in 1967 It took the independent nation 20 years of military rule (mainly by a general Pica) before it managed to elect its first civilian president San Serriffe’s exact location is a matter of dispute It has been situated in the neighbourhood of the Seychelles but it appears the island nation drifts as much as 1.4 km per year Even this astonishing speed does not account for sightings of the archipelago in places as far-flung as the Bering Sea and  just off New Zealand’s South Island the island counted just under 1.8 million inhabitants of which approximately 574,000 Flong (the native ethnic group) 640,000 colons and semi-colons (European settlers and people of mixed race) Caissa Superiore (Upper Caisse) and Caissa Inferiore (Lower Caisse) the latter of which has a prominent promontory The islands are separated by the Shoals of Adze The nearby island of Ova Mata is a Spanish possession.  The country was one of the Guardian‘s most elaborate and most successful April Fool’s pranks and was ‘revisited’ by the newspaper in 1978 One clue to its non-existence are the many references to typography in its name (sans-serif is a letterform without the serif which is the small line attached to the end of a stroke in a letter or symbol) its shape (a semicolon) and its cities (Bodoni is a the name of a series of typefaces of the serif type) An even more obvious clue was that an alternate name for the main island was Hoaxe.  The idea for San Serriffe came from Philip Davies then in charge of the Guardian‘s Special Reports department “The Financial Times was always doing special reports on little countries I’d never heard of I was thinking about April Fool’s Day 1977 and I thought: Why don’t we just make a country up?” Many thanks to D. Zasoba for providing this link to a map of San Serriffe. More on its ‘history’ on this page of the Museum of Hoaxes Got a strange map? hair out wondering what the hell a “knoll” is I even found out “flong” is an actual word in the Oxford English dictionary There never seemed to be any rhyme or reason to it – the game was all in good fun According to one person – known simply as Wordlinator – it seems we’ve been wrong the whole time This person managed to work out how Wordle chooses their five-letter words on a daily basis they’ve
