A short journey from the Port of Fredericia
the newest Maersk warehouse becomes the next piece of the puzzle for integrated
seamless supply chains for businesses in and around Denmark
The Fredericia warehouse sits in a prime location for customer and supply chain convenience
The Port of Fredericia is the largest container port in Southern Denmark
and among the biggest in Denmark for import and export
And it’s still undergoing major development to accommodate future growing volumes of cargo and new environmental considerations
The site is firmly nested within the Triangle Area of Denmark
allowing for cross-country connectivity within just 3 to 4 hours
Fredericia is located inside the European transport corridor
and the nearby Billund Airport – bridging Asia and Europe with connecting flights to Hangzhou
The site is 100 kilometres from the German-Danish border
making onward connection into Germany simple
In addition to its substantial onward transport network
the new warehouse offers a number of value-added services – bringing more operations under one roof for greater efficiency and speed to market
and can also be used as a local fulfilment centre to ensure orders reach end consumers in a timely fashion
allowing customers to defer duty to help ease cashflow issues and avoid paying double duties unnecessarily – all led by Maersk Customs Services with support on-site
The site has been built with our customers’ ambitious decarbonisation goals and Maersk’s own ‘net zero by 2040’ target in mind
The addition of the Fredericia warehouse means that Maersk can provide a truly end-to-end supply chain solution for businesses in and around Denmark
bringing the full integrator strategy to life
cargo can be handled by a single logistics partner
Maersk’s owned vessels can carry customers’ ocean freight
and we can support exporting and importing to and from Denmark via air
our customs clearance services ensure goods cross borders without delay
We’ll manage the transport of cargo from terminal to warehouse
ready for onward travel across Denmark or elsewhere in Europe
We’ll even manage the inland transportation across rail or road to your distribution centres
Our team of on-ground experts can also tackle your last-mile deliveries
When an entire supply chain is handled by one provider
you ensure a smooth handover between all supply chain links – strengthening and improving resilience
Consistency and collaboration help to eliminate vulnerabilities
And customers enjoy increased visibility through centralising supply chain data
pinpointing the location of cargo at each step of the journey and helping with inventory management
adaptable supply chain also means you’ll be able to respond quickly to changes in demand
The strategic location of the Fredericia site enables it to be a part of a seamlessly integrated supply chain
shortening lead times and phasing out unnecessary transport legs
And the easy access to multi-modal transport networks makes for improved accessibility to the entire Scandinavian region
Many businesses are looking for partners to help reduce their environmental impact
Maersk has the global ambition to reach net zero GHG emissions by 2040
and had its target validated by the Science-based Targets initiative (SBTi)
The Fredericia warehouse has been built according to these decarbonisation ambitions
This facility features solar panels that return any excess renewable energy to the grid
Shunting operations will be carried out by EV trucks
and the site features 41 EV charging outlets – available not just for delivery vehicles but for Maersk employee use too
and the associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
The addition of the Fredericia warehouse improves speed to market
supply chain predictability and decarbonisation – and provides an easy way for clients to reach European markets more efficiently
bringing truly integrated logistics to life

In 2015, the Carlsberg Group consumed an average of 3.4 liters of water for every liter of beer produced at its global network of manufacturing sites. However, a ground-breaking project, involving DuPont™ closed circuit reverse osmosis (CCRO) technology
has helped transform their site in Fredericia
Denmark into what is claimed to be the world’s most water-efficient brewery
Led by the Belgian circular water specialists’
and including Dutch water treatment system designer Lenntech and DuPont – the project
which was recognised as Industrial Project of the Year in the GWI Global Water Awards
has virtually eliminated wastewater from the water-intensive brewing process
much of which is used for cleaning and other industrial processes
The state-of-the-art Total Water Management (TWM) treatment plant has allowed the facility to treat 82%-90% of the process water used for sanitation and bottle cleaning and reuse it for these same purposes
with the remaining material sent to a public wastewater treatment plant
Carlsberg had managed to reduce the brewery’s water consumption by 0.6 liters
but the TWM proved to be a game changer and now just 1.4 liters of water is required to produce each liter of beer – cutting the brewery’s overall water consumption by 500,000m3 per year
water consumption at the brewery has been reduced by 58.8%
exceeding the company’s 2030 goal of a 50% reduction several years ahead of schedule
is used to heat on-site facilities and accounts for about 15% of the total amount of heat used at the Carlsberg Fredericia brewery
further improving the site’s sustainability profile
Carlsberg has not only exceeded its environmental target for the brewery
it has also saved money by dramatically reducing the amount of water used and created a blueprint for the rest of the business.”

Spend the day with our Parisians on the eve of the match against Fredericia
Several debuts imprinted the first two Machineseeker EHF Champions League matches on Thursday night
Fredericia played the first international match in the club’s history
as David Davis led Dinamo Bucuresti to an easy-going win
in his first top-flight match as the Romanian side’s coach
Szeged’s new coaches Michael Apelgren and Jonas Källman started their Champions League mission with a 31:29 victory against SC Magdeburg
The third victorious new coach was Xavi Pascual
His new club Veszprém took a close but deserved win at Füchse Berlin
meaning both Thursday night duels featuring German teams ended in favour of their Hungarian opponents
GROUP ADinamo Bucuresti (ROU) vs Fredericia Håndbold Klub (DEN) 37:28 (18:14)
Kasper Andersen made history by scoring for 1:0 — the first goal ever in EHF competitions for Fredericia — and his side even dominated the first 20 minutes
intermediately pulling ahead by three goals
But thanks to 6:2 run in the last seven minutes of the first half
backed by strong goalkeeper Vladimir Cupara and rock-solid defence
New arrival Haukur Thrastarson had a brilliant international debut for Dinamo
Bucharest’s new coach David Davis could started his rotation earlier than expected and 10 different Dinamo players were noted on the scoreboard as early as 35 minutes
Fredericia lacked the means for a comeback
while Dinamo put the pedal to the metal until the end

Füchse Berlin (GER) vs Veszprém HC (HUN) 31:32 (16:16)
The 17th and final save from Rodrigo Corrales provided Veszprém HC with two deserved points after a true thriller
which seemed to be decided two minutes before the end
Füchse Berlin fought back and scored three goals in 100 seconds
but Lasse Andersson missed the chance to secure a last-second draw as Corrales saved the shot
Veszprém’s new coach Xavi Pascual could celebrate a perfect start
After an 11-years absence from the EHF Champions League
which both sides played in high-speed mode
Turning a 10:14 deficit into a level score of 15:15 was the turning point
Nedim Remili was the key factor in attack — scoring nine of his 11 goals after the break — and the defence was stable
though Mathias Gidsel was almost unstoppable in Berlin’s offence
The second half became a kind of one-on-one duel between EHF EURO 2024 top scorer Gidsel and EHF EURO 2024 MVP Remili — and like the match
Veszprém repeated their opener from last season
GROUP BOTP Bank - PICK Szeged (HUN) vs SC Magdeburg (GER) 31:29 (17:18)
with narrow advantages for the hosts until minute 27
when Magdeburg struck with a 3:0 run to be ahead at half-time
The key factors for both teams were their goalkeepers
with the latter enjoying his Champions League comeback after a suspension
and Szeged ran over the EHF Champions League 2022/23 winners to lead 28:21
In the first 18 minutes of the second half
Mikler had saved 10 shots — and was on an intermediate percentage of more than 50 per cent
Although SCM found their rhythm again and reduced the gap to 28:30 in minute 58
like in the previous season when they lost on home ground against Veszprém
SCM were defeated by a Hungarian team in the first group match
Industria Kielce (POL) vs HC Zagreb (CRO) 30:23 (13:13)
Kielce overran Zagreb with a brilliant start and a 7:3 advantage
but then the record Croatian champions managed to come back quite quickly
Zagreb levelled the result for the first time at 9:9 and took their first lead right after the start of the second half at 14:13
The young back court aces Miloš Kos and Luka Lovre Klarica took control in Zagreb's attack
while Kielce obviously missed their former goalkeeper Andreas Wolff
Only in the final stages did his successor
mainly from Daniel Dujshebaev and Benoit Konkoud
the gap was five goals for the first time at 27:22 with only six minutes left
And as Zagreb only scored once in the last minutes

From a company that has built the story of Danish furnishing with clean lines and essential design
Its creative credo rests on the quest for extremely high quality
taking its name from the historic Danish industrial town in Jutland
where a leading furnishing fair had been held from the previous year until 1983
all sticking to the patriarch’s diktat: a love for precision and the perfecting of craftsman skills
One page of the 1924 catalogue states incisively: “Only fine craftsmanship will provide you with the longevity that you wish for.” In 1955
the new owner and CEO of the company Andreas Graversen
carried forward the credo: “It is of great importance that the things we purchase and live with do not need to be changed
but instead grow old with dignity and charm.”
That savoir-faire has shaped products that embody the purity

The Spanish Chair designed by Børge Mogensen for Fredericia will be featured in the exhibition THIS IS DENMARK hosted at Alcova for the Milan Design Week 2023
If you happen to visit historical sites in Spain
often richly decorated and with a leather seat and back
They are part of the Spanish-Arabic handcraft heritage and they come directly from a nomadic culture that preferred this type of no-nonsense
In 1958, Fredericia‘s founder Børge Mogensen made a trip to Andalucia
starting from a question: what would happen if he was to interpret this ancient piece
He proceeded to soften and lighten the wooden structure
redesign the leather seat and generally bring a contemporary look to the seat.
The Spanish Chair – in its Northern European look – was going to shape new gestures and habits in Danish home
comfortable and laid back attitude by design
There is a silent rule that applies when designing lounge chairs and sofas for the Scandinavian market
even today: they have to be compact and not too fluffy
as to allow a vertical and composed posture.
Of course that doesn’t mean that Danish people do not like to lounge and relax: it is just part of the Scandinavian design habits.
The Spanish Chair’s sturdy presence and wide armrest suggest on the contrary a very comfortable and relaxed seating
The armrest would occasionally become a good place to put a cup of coffee
the chair suggests an informal way of life
while maintaining material quality and design-driven production as its main features.
Today The Spanish Chair is made of a sturdy wooden construction involving expertly treated solid oak crafted with geometrical precision
Over time the seat and back leather tend to expand and may need to be tightened
so Mogensen added adjustable brass straps to grant durable comfort seating
The rustic combination of vegetable-tanned saddle leather with the solid oak frame adds character
achieving a special patina that only becomes more stunning over time
From a sustainability point of view The Spanish chair focuses on resistance and durability
as well as on the protection of handcraft ecological processes: the leather comes from a Sweden-based saddler
one of the few using vegetal tanning that achieves a typical patina that becomes more and more beautiful over time.

Check out the of the pics from Paris's conquest of Fredericia in Denmark (32-38)
Round 2 of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League 2024/25 ended Thursday evening with title holders Barça surviving an impressive comeback by OTP Bank - Pick Szeged
the Spanish champions had to settle for a narrow 31:30 home win
SC Magdeburg downed Kolstad Håndbold 33:25 following a dominant performance.
Earlier Thursday, Veszprém HC took a stunning 41:28 victory over Paris Saint-Germain Handball – the biggest winning margin in any of the 17 duels the two powerhouses have played against each other
Sporting CP steamrolled Fredericia Håndbold in Denmark: 37:19
the biggest ever win in Europe's top flight for the Portuguese club
Veszprém HC (HUN) vs Paris Saint-Germain Handball (FRA) 41:28 (18:15)
The Paris Saint-Germain players certainly did not feel too unlucky going back to the dressing room only three goals down at half-time
the arrival on the court of Sergey Kosorotov gave the hosts the first breakaway of the evening
Scoring four goals while Rodrigo Corrales made save after save
the Russian left back gave Veszprém a first six goal advantage in the 23rd minute: 16:10
and with the help of their line players Luka Karabatic and Kamil Syprzak
Paris held on to their two-goal deficit for a couple of minutes after the break before Veszprém put the pedal to the metal again
with Mikita Vailupau scoring fast break after fast break
the hosts took a first 10-goal advantage at the 41th minute: 31:21
The gap between the two teams only grew further and reached 13 at the end – more than in any of the previous 16 duels between the two teams
And only a couple of saves by Jannick Green prevented Veszprém from handing Paris their biggest defeat ever in the EHF Champions League
which remains the 44:28 drubbing at the hands of THW Kiel in 2005
Fredericia Håndbold Klub (DEN) vs Sporting CP (POR) 19:37 (8:17)
It did not take long for Sporting to find their rhythm into the game
the visitors were already four goals ahead and had forced the hosts to take a first team timeout
Things did not improve for Fredericia afterwards
as the Danish side lost too many easy balls
offering their opponents fast-break opportunities
Francisco 'Kiko' Costa scored three early goals and in his wake
Sporting were ahead by 10 after just 22 minutes (5:15)
The Portuguese side did not slow down after the break
with Kiko Costa again and Salvador Salvador making sure the 10-goal lead would not be lost
Things did not improve for the hosts after the break
as Sporting picked up exactly where they had left off
Sporting made their advantage even bigger in the second part of the second half
It grew up to 18 goals at the final buzzer
with five players from the Portuguese side scoring four goals or more
while Francisco Costa proved to be the most prolific
Magdeburg put themselves in the driving seat within the first 12 minutes of the game
With Sergey Hernandez locking the door between the posts
the hosts were able to play fast and score easy goals
Albin Lagergren and Manuel Zehnder both scored three to put SCM ahead by seven after 12 minutes (10:3)
partly thanks to Torbjørn Bergerud’s saves
they were never able to reduce the gap to less than six goals
Magdeburg scored three straight goals for a nine-goal lead at the break
The time in the locker room benefited Kolstad
as the visitors came back with more aggressive defensive intentions
This allowed them to come back within six after 10 minutes
but Sergey Hernandez was quick to put his team out of danger again
the Swedish left back compiled eight in total to keep his team in the lead
With five players scoring four goals or more
Magdeburg pulled out a strong team performance to take their first points of the season
Barça (ESP) vs OTP Bank - Pick Szeged (HUN) 31:30 (20:12)
Just looking at the goalkeepers’ statistics was enough to explain Barça’s eight-goal lead at the break
Gonzalo Perez de Vargas put up a wall and stopped 11 shots
The Barça goalkeeper forced Szeged to shoot outside of the goal many times
Even though Tobias Thulin pulled out a good performance between the visitors’ posts
he could not prevent Barça from breaking away on the scoreboard
The advantage peaked at nine goals at the 24th minute when Jonathan Carlsbogard scored from distance
before Barça settled for eight at the break
The second half was much better for Szeged
as the Hungarian side was able to finally put their shots into the net
Mario Sostaric was elemental for the visitors
scoring eight in total and finishing the game as the best scorer
Szeged was able to reduce the advantage to one goal with a few minutes left to play
as Dika Mem had left the court with a shoulder injury
Emil Nielsen saved some important shots before wingers Manuel Ortega and Aleix Gomez sealed the deal for the hosts

this time to Odense in Denmark to take on Fredericia
We take a look ahead to this EHF Champions League Matchday 12 fixture
The only newcomer to this 2024-2025 edition
Fredericia have been learning over the weeks by measuring themselves against the best sides that Europe has to offer
it seems like a step too far for the Danes
who have paid for their lack of experience and could be officially eliminated from the competition if they lose to the capital club on Wednesday
The equation for Fredericia is clear: break their three-match losing streak and keep their hopes of qualifying alive
For Paris, the pressure is mounting as we approach the end of the group stage. Defeated at home against Plock last week (28-31)
Raul Gonzalez's men have dropped to fourth place in Group A
as Les Rouge et Bleu are still one point behind Sporting
the Parisians know that with only three matches left to play
another misstep could dash their hopes of qualifying directly for the quarter-finals
Fredericia's problems in this European campaign can be explained largely by their defensive sector
Their rearguard is the most permeable in the competition
Facing them is one of this season's top scorers: Kamil Syprzak
is one of the three highest scorers in the EHF Champions League this season
the top scorer is Reinier Taboada Dranquet

Paris Saint-Germain Handball will once again be competing in the group phase of the EHF Champions League
Among their future opponents in Group A are Fredericia HK
Fredericia HK may not be Denmark's most famous club
but they are nonetheless a major force in the Primo Tours Ligaen (Danish league)
It was in the mid-1970s that the Red and Blacks (then known as KFUM Fredericia) established their reputation
winning five league titles between 1975 and 1979 (the club's only titles) as well as several domestic cups
they reached the final of the Champions League in 1976
losing 17-15 to RK Borac Banja Luka of Croatia
Une publication partagée par Fredericia Håndboldklub | FHK (@fredericiahk)
Fredericia managed to secure a place on the podium last season
finishing second in the league (seven points behind Aallborg)
FHK were also responsible for one of the only domestic defeats of the season for the European runners-up (30-29)
Among the side's more experienced players is Sebastian Frandsen
the 30-year-old full-back has already played in the Champions League - during his two seasons at Porto
played in the Liqui Moly StarLigue for Dunkerque
31-year-old left-back Anders Krach Martinusen broke the league's record for assists in 23-24 with 185 goals coked up for his team-mates

FHK had another former Liqui Moly StarLigue player in James SCott Junior
but the ex-Nantes man has headed to Japan to play for Daido Steel Phenix
Fredericia will be able to count on the return to his homeland of Mads Kjeldgaard Andersen
The Danish left-winger scored 102 goals last season in the Bundesliga with Bergischer HC
Another important addition is Swedish centre-half William Andersson Moberg
The 24-year-old scored 44 goals with IK Sävehof in the EHF European League last season

What a night for Eurofarm Pelister: the Macedonian champions took their first win after 23 defeats and one draw in the last 24 matches of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League
The team of interim coach Zvonko Shundovski took the points in Odense
Dinamo took their first ever win against Füchse Berlin
the 31:31 was the first draw for the defending champions
Fredericia Håndbold Klub (DEN) vs HC Eurofarm Pelister (MKD) 23:25 (12:9)
The euphoria and confidence at Fredericia were huge after their first ever victory in the EHF Champions League - the 28:25 against Plock last week
Danes were also hoping to prolong the streak Thursday night
as Eurofarm Pelister had not won any of their last 24 matches in the competition (23 defeats
The first half looked pretty good for Gudmundur Gudmundsson's team
the Danish runners-up waited patiently for their chances
The margin could have been even bigger than 12:9
but already then Eurofarm Pelister’s goalkeeper Nikola Mitrevski was outstanding
though Bitola’s top scorer Filip Kuzmanovski missed many chances
and then CL winner from 2014 Bogdan Radivojevic had his strongest period
steering his side to a 19:16 advantage in minute 45
as Fredericia only managed to score four goals in 15 minutes against Mitrevski
A red card for Radivojevic weakened the Macedonian champions
opening an opportunity for Fredericia to get back into this one again
the score was 21:22 – but finally a double strike from Zarko Peshevski and Nejc Cehte sealed the deal for the Macedonians
Dinamo Bucuresti (ROU) vs Füchse Berlin (GER) 38:31 (18:19)
In the first 30 minutes the lead changed seven times
underlining that the match of the two participants of the EHF Finals 2024 was going back and forth
While Berlin’s star Mathias Gidsel scored seven from seven before the break
Dinamo’s Israeli Yoav Lumbroso was highly efficient in attack
it was a brilliant team performance of the hosts
as 13 of 14 court players were on the scorer list
As Gidsel lost his shooting power after the break
Lasse Andersson stepped in and finished with eight goals
A key fact for Dinamo’s constant lead in the second half was the weak goalkeeper performance from the guests

revolutionary water recycling plant that recycles 90% of the process water at the Carlsberg brewery in Fredericia
This makes the Fredericia brewery the most water efficient in the world
Learnings from the brewery will enable the group to reach its target to virtually eliminate water waste globally by 2030
the Fredericia brewery will save more than 500 million liters of water a year
90 percent of process water from the production of beer and soft drinks will be recycled in the production facility
Water consumption will be halved from the current 2.9 hl of water per hl of beer to 1.4 hl of water per hl of beer
“We are immensely proud to be able to unveil the world’s most water efficient brewing facility
Water is a basic ingredient in all our products
so water resource management is a high priority
Our water to beer ratio has always been low
By recycling process water in our production
we are virtually eliminating water waste,” says Philip Hodges
Water is not only a basic ingredient in the products from Carlsberg but is also essential to the sustainability of the societies where the brewery operates
and clean water is a priority in the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Carlsberg has a goal of eliminating water waste by 2030 as part of the group’s sustainability programme Together Towards Zero
“We have a goal of zero water waste globally in 2030
we have a responsibility to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals
we have a special responsibility to reduce water waste in our global production
The new water recycling plant in Fredericia will generate important learnings that can be implemented across our breweries in the rest of the world,” says Carlsberg Group CEO
It is estimated that the water recycling plant will also reduce the brewery’s energy consumption by 10% through own biogas production and recirculation of hot water
further contributing to the Together Towards ZERO sustainability programme
The new plant is a result of broad collaboration in the Danish partnership for Resource and water efficient Industrial food Production (DRIP)
For the project to succeed both businesses
technical experts and health and food authorities have had to rethink how we use and reuse water and expand the limits of water purification and circularity
“The plant in Fredericia is built on a new and innovative approach to cleaning and recycling process water where you
At the same time biogas is produced as a residual product
It is a whole new form of circularity in food production
the process water ends up being clean enough to drink
but we are only using the water to clean the production facilities,” says Carlsberg Denmark Brewing Director
The new facility will be inaugurated at a special event attended by the Danish Prime Minister as well as representatives from Carlsberg and the DRIP-partnership
Together Towards ZERO is Carlsberg’s vision for a better and more sustainable future in a time with serious challenge such as climate change and water scarcity
The program consists of four goals: ZERO CO2-emissions
ZERO irresponsible drinking culture and ZERO work-related accidents
Each of the four ambitions is supported by individual and measurable goals
Our business depends on the availability of clean water
But the supplies are becoming more and more scarce in some regions where our beer is brewed
With a goal to reduce water consumption in our breweries by half by 2030 and reduce it by 25 percent by 2022
Through community partnerships we help preserve common sources of water around our breweries with a focus on areas that are classified as high risk

Royal Dutch Shell PLC’s Shell Petroleum Co. Ltd. has agreed to sell subsidiary AS Dansk Shell to PL ESG Denmark Co. ApS (Postlane Partners)
Alongside Dansk Shell’s 68,000-b/d Fredericia refinery
Postlane Partners also will purchase Dansk Shell’s local trading and supply activities
including its existing inventory of refinery feedstocks and finished products
the companies plan to complete the transaction in second-quarter 2021
Shell said it will retain a presence in Denmark via its 49% interest with partner DCC Energi AS (51%) in DCC & Shell Aviation Denmark AS
which supplies aviation fuels to seven Danish airports
The new sales agreement with Postlane Partners follows Shell’s cancellation of a 2016 deal to sell its downstream holdings in Denmark to Dansk Olieselskab APS (OGJ Online, Jan. 2, 2018)
In addition to retaining Dansk Shell’s existing 260 employees
independent renewable-energy investment firm Postlane Partners plans to equip the Fredericia refinery for coprocessing of bioproducts
as well as carry out work focused on green hydrogen and the potential for advanced biofuels
Shell assured the sale of its refinery will in no way impact supply of Shell-branded fuels to the Danish market
as DCC Energi will continue under its existing licensing agreement to market and sell Shell products in Denmark
which operates Denmark’s 234 Shell-branded retail stations
and gas-to-liquids (GTL) fuel to Danish customers
Robert Brelsford joined Oil & Gas Journal in October 2013 as downstream technology editor after 8 years as a crude oil price and news reporter on spot crude transactions at the US Gulf Coast

Google acquires 120,000 sqm next to existing data center
Google and Facebook have both this week acquired large tracts of land in Denmark for potential data center developments
Google has acquired 120,000 square meters (1.29 million sq ft) of land in Taulov
while Facebook has bought 212 hectares in Andrup
Back in June 2017, Google acquired a 73.2 hectare (7.8 million sq ft) plot of land in Fredericia for $9.86m. It subsequently acquired another 131 acres in the municipality of Aabenraa to the south
In 2018 Google finally announced plans to build a 4.5 billion Danish Kroner ($690m) data center in Fredericia
but is not listed on its GCP infrastructure map
This week Fredericia City Council approved the sale of a business area of just over 120,000 sqm to Google
The acquired area is a direct extension of the current data center in the Princess' Quarter in Taulov
and that a purchase right of an additional approximately 375,000 sqm (4 million sq ft) was also approved
"We are proud and happy that Google has chosen to get involved in Fredericia
Google is buying into more options here in the future
And of course a statement that Google wants Fredericia,” said Mayor Steen Wrist
Google has reportedly not outlined its plans for the land
“We already have a really good relationship with Fredericia and are happy to be here and get involved in the city
we get the opportunity to expand our presence at a later date
Exactly how is still too early to say," said Google data center manager
Facebook has acquired 212 hectares of land in Andrup in Esbjer at a price of DKK 277 million ($43 million)
The municipality said the social network and advertising firm can start the initial planning and survey activities on the land for the future possibility of building a data center
“I am very happy that Facebook is back in Esbjerg and now again investigating the possibilities of establishing a data center in Andrup,” said Mayor Jesper Frost Rasmussen
“The signing of the purchase contract is just the first milestone in this process
The establishment of a data center will be completely in line with our ambitions to become a data hub
and at the same time the construction and operation of a new data center will be able to attract additional companies in the field to Esbjerg and create synergies with our current companies.”
Facebook was reportedly in the process of investigating the area between 2018-19
but decided to stop the land acquisition and development of the project
Esbjerg City Council subsequently acquired the land as part of a strategy to attract investors and become a data hub
“We recently resumed our studies of Esbjerg as a possible site for a future data center and bought 212 hectares of land,” said Facebook spokesperson Lukasz Lindell
which will help to support the further development of the area
The construction of a data center does not start until a final investment decision has been made
We are also pleased to collaborate with such a good team in our studies of how Esbjerg can possibly support our business' future needs.”

Hospitality was the foundation for the 30 different projects the groups of students worked on for two weeks
The EASA community includes 500 students representing over 40 countries and 200 different architecture schools
EASA had an organizing board of 12 international architecture students this year who were chosen by EASA
The theme of hospitality, and finding the framework, reflects the historical and modern-day challenges the city of Fredericia faces. Theoretical and practical workshops helped the EASA community to further analyze hospitality and frameworks for it
The following projects, completed at EASA 2017, reflect the student's responses to the world’s current hospitality crisis.

The Danish design company honours Nanna Ditzel on her 100th birth anniversary
through a limited edition release of her 'Chaconia Chair' and new colour options for the 'Trinidad Chair.'
by STIRpadPublished on : Jun 15
Danish design company Fredericia honours Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005), a creative pioneer considered to be one of the greatest Danish designers of the 20th century
on the occasion of her 100th birth anniversary
As part of the remembrance and recognition
the brand is releasing a exclusive relaunch of her most iconic 'Trinidad Chair' with new colours
and the 'Chaconia Chair,' which will be released as a limited edition
were the pillars of Ditzel’s design philosophy
Ditzel rapidly abandoned what she dubbed as ‘masculine’ ideas and instead
chased and validated 'softness' by employing rounded shapes
With her prolific production over many years
as well as preconceived rules of space and design
she has designed almost everything we use daily
being one of the most versatile talents of her day
which is highly unusual,” shares Thomas Graversen
and a close collaborator and friend of Ditzel
In Ditzel's own words—“A chair is for sitting in
While functionality must naturally be preserved
chairs have increasingly become attempts to meet the challenge thrown down by all these other elements.“ Here
STIR revisits some of Ditzel’s iconic designs that are being brought back by Fredericia in her honour
in tandem with the 30th anniversary of the chair itself
The Grande Dame of Danish design created the 'Chaconia Chair' in 1962, which was subsequently displayed at the Cabinetmaker's Guild exhibition in Copenhagen in the same year, yet, was never put into production. The setting received high praise, being perceived and described as bold, forward-looking and ultra-modern, including the distinct 'Lounge Chair' being seen more as a sculptural object than a conventional chair
presenting her creative concept for a relaxed
Ditzel was all about challenging conventions
by fusing furniture and space in a coherent setting
about liberating the body and allowing for easy sitting and reclining throughout the entire scene
The chair is being reproduced by Fredericia for the first time
100-piece limited edition to honour Ditzel
Fredericia has changed its name from its original 'Lounge Chair' to 'Chaconia Chair' in honour of 'Trinidad Chair's history
honours the island nation where Ditzel drew inspiration from
and she kept pushing until she got what she had envisioned,” adds Graversen
After owning the land for more than a year
Google plans to build a 4.5 billion Danish Krones (US$690m) data center in Fredericia
Speaking to DCD at our London event earlier this month
Google's VP of data centers Joe Kava explained the company's approach: "More often than not
we're looking at multiple sites in the same region
And we'll run them all in parallel and typically one or two of them winds up being the best option for us."
Google's Danish business said that it expects to employ 150 to 200 staff at its data center when it opens in 2021
and 1,450 jobs per year in construction before that
The company also said it would actively pursue new green investment opportunities in Denmark
and that it is evaluating a number of projects within onshore and offshore wind energy and solar energy
Back in 2017, Google signed a 12 year contract with a Norwegian wind farm, and this year it turned to three new wind farms in Finland to help power its European data center operations
"Our value system is that we've committed to match 100 percent of all of our consumption worldwide with an equal amount of renewable energy purchases," Kava told DCD

Last year Fredericia Furniture A/S acquired Erik Jørgensen Møbelfabrik A/S to form one strong Danish design company under the name Fredericia Furniture A/S
While the brands will continue to be marketed separately
both companies have grown out of a strong design heritage
and share a passion for good design as well as solid
the two traditional furniture manufacturers represent a strong collection of Scandinavian design icons
enabling them to offer a strong and wide selection of products
and Nanna Ditzel’s Trinidad Chair are just some of the iconic Danish furniture designs that will be part of the new Fredericia Furniture
The merger will also help secure a continued production of Danish quality design in Denmark
“We wish to present a combined collection with two brands that complement each other – both in terms of design and market approach,” says Rasmus Graversen
Head of Design & Product Management at Fredericia Furniture
“Even though Fredericia and Erik Jørgensen will remain as two brands
we will of course leverage the synergies that arise in production
The two brands will be based on a common culture within a unified company.”

Late designer Børge Mogensen approached his craft with a fusion of timelessness, natural accents and transgenerational elements. Now, his muted, yet elevated catalog is extending as its signature J39 chair has been cast in several new shades by Danish brand Fredericia.
Inspired by Mogensen’s life, the chair celebrated its 75th anniversary last year – making this the perfect time to update the aged beauty. The previous editions included oak, walnut, and beech constructions. Now, coming into the fold are water-based lacquers pebble gray and khaki green alongside a beech vintage lacquered. Regardless of the finish, the chairs are all constructed from beech wood for a smooth construction.

we are obviously thrilled to have entered into close cooperation with morrison
