SUEZ announces the award of a significant contract with Hillerød Forsyning to upgrade the HCR Syd wastewater treatment plant by improving the treatment of pharmaceutical residues
The project will contribute to the preservation of water resources in the region through the improvement of the quality of the sewage effluent
designed for 100,000 population equivalent in the city of Hillerød
is the first project of municipal wastewater treatment plants in Denmark to implement a dedicated quaternary treatment step for the removal of micropollutants
It will be a key reference plant in the country for the future implementation of the EU’s new Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive
which requires additional treatment of micropollutants for all plants over 150,000 population equivalent by 2045
This upgrade is driven by the upcoming connection of New Hospital North Zealand (Nyt Hospital Nordsjælland) to the existing wastewater treatment plant
will increase the wastewater load on the treatment plant
the region has significant industrial activities that contribute to the overall industrial load
It is expected to be completed and operational by mid-2026
SUEZ will implement an advanced quaternary treatment step to remove micropollutants
coming both from private homes (97% of the pharmaceutical residues arriving at the plant)
and from the hospital (3% of the pharmaceutical residues arriving at the plant)
The solution includes inline ozonation and Granular Active Carbon (GAC) filters (SUEZ Carbablue solution) designed to meet effluent discharge requirements for selected pharmaceuticals from the wastewater
Micropollutants can have an impact on the aquatic environment and/or on living organisms due to their toxicity
Wastewater treatment plants are a key transit and capture point for these substances
Appropriate treatment solutions help prevent their spread and conserve water resources
Executive Vice-President Engineering & Construction at SUEZ
said: “We're delighted to be working with Hillerød Forsyning on this ambitious project to meet the growing demand for wastewater treatment in the region while effectively treating micropollutants
With our long-standing expertise in water treatment
we have developed a wide range of solutions to help our customers anticipate strengthened treatment regulations
It demonstrates SUEZ's commitment to enabling its customers to provide access to water and waste services
we have chosen to establish a centralized treatment for medicine residues at HCR Syd
because with this solution we can remove the vast majority of pharmaceutical residues from all medicines throughout the municipality
We are therefore pleased with the collaboration with SUEZ and look forward to getting started with the expansion
so we can ensure a more sustainable aquatic environment and a healthier water supply - both now and in the future.”

Pioneering a global modular network for facility design and drug production
FUJIFILM Corporation has invested over $8 billion USD to establish a formidable global network for biologics manufacturing
This includes strategically located modular facilities designed to provide the agility needed for rapid production scaling
operations will begin at the first phase of FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies’ large-scale facility in Holly Springs
further reinforcing the Company’s commitment to building its transformative ecosystem
This expansion also aligns with the Company’s sustainability initiative, Partners for the Planet, which incorporates sustainable practices across all facilities. The Hillerød site has signed a ten-year Power Purchase Agreement1 to source all electricity from renewable sources
contributing to its silver certification from the globally recognized EcoVadis standard
1A Power Purchase Agreement is a long term contract between a electricity generator (the seller) and an electricity consumer (the buyer
normally a corporate or a utility) for the production and offtake of electricity
operates and maintains the physical energy asset and the customer consumes and pays for the electricity delivered
PPA’s are commonly used in relation to the construction of new renewable energy assets
which are often located outside the consumers premises and delivered via the public electricity grid

A new municipal facility in Hillerød
a city in Denmark’s northern Zealand
reveals a bold approach to water treatment by involving the community into its built fabric
The Solrødgård Water Treatment Plant blends the landscape with public utility
where people are exposed to the natural cycle of wastewater treatment in a relaxed verdant setting
Danish architectural firm Henning Larsen has contributed to the open park with its exterior design and landscape services
The architectural vision of the project involves the division of various functions into three equal volumes to house a recycling centre
these volumes are hidden under a rooftop park whose landscape invites the community to the industrial facility
its glass façade providing visitors a chance to watch the processing and filtration activities of the plant underneath
“The design concept,” the architects explain
“allows the community to connect with their own use of resources
while minimising the visual and olfactory presence often associated with water treatment plants.”
a web of meandering pedestrian paths weaving through perennial planting beds within the park entice people with its colourful blossoms
The beautifully sprawling roof overlooks the rest of the park
and a roosting hotel for local bats amid vast greens
A service road divides the built volume into two parts
where the sunken space is flanked by the building’s façades on either side and topped by a sculpturesque steel bridge that connects the two sides of the park
Clad in a combination of weathering steel and glass
renders an impression of a poche section cut out of the earth
A small creek trickle through a narrow garden within this space
demonstrating how natural foliage cleans and filters groundwater
an apparent organic contrast to the industrial treatments inside
“It’s (central passage) symbolic of us cutting into the landscape to look within
creating a contrast between the natural water cycle and the constructed process that support the communities,” says Marie Ørsted Larsen
Senior Landscape Architect at Henning Larsen
the passage allows visitors to get a first-hand glimpse of how their community water cycle works
while being exposed to views of the plant’s internal operations
The Solrødgård Water Treatment Plant is part of the Solrødgård Climate and Environmental Park that seeks to shine a bright spotlight on the global challenges of climate change and sustainability
it invites an open dialogue for the community to gain awareness on the fast depleting resources and to take action

Danish-Ghanaian midfielder Solomon Opoku
By: Tim Wright
If you want to achieve something truly special
Gukesh and his family are an excellent example of the same
While every youngster plays around 100-120 rated games in a year
While everyone usually feels that you should play in only strong events
Gukesh decided to play in the Hillerød Chess Club tournament where he was the second seed
gained some valuable Elo points and won the tournament by a half point margin
Before he left for his next tournament - the Cannes Open in France
we got in touch with him and did an interview on his victory
Get to know the unique thoughts of India's finest talent.
Hillerød Chess Club was established in the year 1910
In 2020, they celebrated 110 years of its existence
the second youngest GM in the history of the game
and finished ahead of the entire pack by half a point
Gukesh's biggest competitor for the top spot at the tournament was GM Zeng Chongsheng
Until round seven both of them were leading with a score of 6.5/7
Gukesh and Zeng Chongsheng had already drawn their game in the fifth round
Gukesh drew his game while the Chinese GM succumbed to a loss after overstretching against FM Jens Ostergaard
thus took a half point lead and won his final round game to seal the deal with 8.0/9
D Gukesh (DG): I am happy and relieved that I won this tournament
DG: The pressure was always there as I was expected to win most of my games but apart from a couple of games, I was able to control my play the way I wanted
Carsten Pedersen was an extremely friendly organiser who was very supportive from the start and gave good conditions to me and my dad
He took care of us very well during our stay
We just loved the stay provided as it was a nature resort
close to the forest and had a huge kitchen to cook our own food
We also had amenities like Table Tennis and Fusball which was helpful to relax
DG: I like my 3rd and 4th round games against IM Siva Mahadevan and Jacob Mikkelsen Minosri
SS: Tell us a bit about your seventh round game where you were completely lost and your opponent missed a mate in one
SS: How has Microsense been helping you in your journey and how was the January camp of Microsense Kramnik Gelfand camp useful for you
DG: Microsense has been fully supportive for the past one and a half years helping me financially and also providing quality training camps from legends like Kramnik and Gelfand
It's a privilege to be trained under Kramnik sir and Gelfand sir and they have given lot of inputs which I am trying out and I am sure it will help me in the long run
This is my first tournament after the camp and my time management which was troubling me in the recent past is far better in this event thanks to their tips
I also want to thank my coach Vishnu Prasanna sir whose guidance has been invaluable
I hope to keep improving and justify their belief in me
SS: It was very cold in Denmark and you used to travel from your hotel to the playing hall
a distance of nearly 3 kilometre on a cycle
DG: It was easy for me as I was just the pillion rider
My dad toiled hard cycling through the cold to make sure I reached in time for my game in every round

The North Zealand Hospital is a new acute care hospital that will be developed by the Capital Region of Denmark outside the town Hillerød in North Zealand
The project is part of Denmark’s healthcare consolidation programme
which includes the redevelopment of seven hospitals
The new facility will replace the three existing hospitals in Hilllerød
in collaboration with the Danish firm Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects
won the design competition to build the hospital in April 2014
It will be Herzog & de Meuron’s first project in Scandinavia
A preliminary budget of kr3.9bn ($582m) was approved by the Danish Government for the construction of the new hospital
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017 and the hospital is expected to open to the public in late 2020
the hospital will accommodate approximately 700 beds and serve more than 310,000 people in the region
The hospital building
will be shaped like a cloverleaf and have a height of 17m
It will be spread horizontally across the 300,000m² site and integrated with nature both on the inside and outside
The low-rise building will contain four levels at its highest point
The bottom two levels will form a pedestal that will house diagnosis and treatment facilities
A two-storey ribbon of patient wards will run along the building perimeter above the pedestal
A total of 24 medical departments will be housed within the pedestal levels
with the most frequented departments near the centre
Circular interior courtyards will be arranged in a repetitive pattern within the pedestal
allowing daylight to reach the lower levels of the hospital
A central hall below the garden will feature four round courtyards
The hospital appears as a two-storey complex from the roof garden
The patient wards in the upper levels will either overlook the roof garden or provide views of the surrounding landscape
rectangular rooms will offer privacy to patients
The bathrooms will be polygonal in shape and situated between the rooms with a setback
giving the ribbon an undulating shape resembling a spine
The flexible design of the building allows for future expansion
Its large and uniform floor plates will be able to accommodate shifts in usage and function
The building will be surrounded by a forest park with clearings for parking lots
The central garden will feature a heathland landscape
Circular hedges will be used to create a network of pathways in the garden and also maintain the privacy of hospital functions within the pedestal from the exterior
The pedestal will be covered by a slender, vertical façade structure that will permit flexibility. The façade of the courtyard will be clad in different materials to help create orientation and variety
The patient wards on the upper levels will be built using lightweight prefabricated modules made from either metal or wood

an extension to a monumental 14th century danish farm in copenhagen

the new center shares the same plot on which insulin was extracted from the pancreas of a cow for the first time in history
the design draws from this context by shaping its floors to resemble the animal’s ear or leaf
creating a subtle motif without sacrificing the quality of efficiency of the internal programs
