Police officers search addresses in Holbaek
Denmark's intelligence service said it detained 13 people over a suspected terror plot
with another person arrested in Germany in a "linked" case
Authorities in Denmark and Germany have arrested a total of 14 people in the last week on suspicion of planning "one or more" terrorist attacks
according to the Danish Security and Intelligence Service
The agency, known as PET, said in a release that it had detained 13 suspects in separate incidents
and that German authorities had arrested another person in a case "linked" to the investigation
PET said it arrested seven people between Feb
The suspects are charged with acquiring "ingredients and components for manufacturing explosives" and firearms
The Court of Holbæk — about 40 miles west of Copenhagen — ordered the detention of another six people on Thursday
adding that those individuals are "all involved in the case."
"We believe that there are individuals with the intent and capacity to commit terrorist attacks in Denmark," the agency said
Danish broadcaster DR reports that the seven terror suspects have pleaded not guilty
The charges against the six other Danish suspects or the individual arrested in Germany have not yet been made public
PET operations chief Flemming Drejer said police had made "worrying findings" during their searches
turning up items including ingredients for making bombs
pump guns and a hunting rifle with binoculars
Denmark's Jyllands-Posten newspaper reported that investigators also found an ISIS flag
which Drejer said indicates that those involved "may be inspired by militant Islamism."
he said at the briefing that there was "no imminent danger" of an attack
noting that the bomb-making ingredients had not yet been put together
PET said the case does not change its assessment of Denmark's terror threat
Nick Hækkerup, Denmark's minister of justice, called the arrests a "major anti-terror operation" in a statement posted to Twitter on Thursday
the case shows that the terrorist threat against Denmark remains serious," he wrote
"But we have a skilled and vigilant police who have shown that they take care of us."
He also thanked German authorities for their cooperation
which PET called "excellent and efficient."
German authorities said three of the suspects are Syrian brothers ages 33, 36 and 40, according to local media reports
Two were arrested in Denmark and one in Germany over the weekend after authorities say they followed a tip about a suspicious online order of chemicals in January that can be used to make bombs
When investigators obtained a warrant to search the apartment in Germany
they found a variety of pyrotechnics and a "self-painted" ISIS flag
a spokesman for federal prosecutors in the eastern German town of Naumburg said
Denmark has been grappling with concerns over extremist attacks since 2005, when Jyllands-Posten published 12 cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. Such depictions are considered blasphemous in Islam, and the incident sparked widespread backlash
Danish authorities have foiled a number of plots in recent years. In Dec. 2019, police arrested some 20 people over their suspected involvement in Islamist terrorism. They also arrested a man suspected of planning a terror attack with a "militant Islamic motive" in April 2020

Denmark — Fourteen people have been arrested in Denmark and Germany on suspicion of preparing one or several attacks in the two countries
adding that the discovery of an Islamic State group flag could indicate the suspects “have a connection or sympathy with the terror organization.”
operative head of Denmark’s Security and Intelligence Service
said the findings were “worrying” but “it is our assessment that there was no imminent danger.”
Dreyer said the first seven individuals who were arrested in Denmark had acquired weapons and “we found things that can be used to make a bomb.” He said police found shotguns and a rifle with a scope
but that he could not give further details about the Denmark case or its links to Germany
“We are now in the initial phase of the investigation and we need to keep our cards close to the chest,” Dreyer said
All but one of the 14 arrests took place in Denmark
Three of the suspects are Syrian nationals
Danish authorities announced eight arrests on Thursday
and police said another six people were detained Friday
The detention hearings in Denmark were held behind so-called double-closed doors
meaning the case is shrouded in secrecy and few details are made public
said Thursday that the first seven people arrested in Denmark were suspected “of having acquired ingredients and components for the manufacture of explosives
They are suspected of “having planned one or more terrorist attacks or participated in attempted terrorism.”
German authorities had announced the first three arrests — two in Denmark and one in Germany
They said the suspects were alleged to have purchased several pounds of chemicals in January that could be used to manufacture explosives
A search of a residence in the German city of Dessau-Rosslau
turned up 22 pounds of black powder and fuses
Germany’s dpa news agency reported that the three were brothers
and that two had entered Germany for the first time in 1998 and received refugee status later
The chemicals they are alleged to have obtained came from a source in Poland
Justice Minister Nick Haekkerup said late Thursday on Twitter that ”the case shows that the terrorist threat against Denmark remains serious.”
The Scandinavian country of 6 million has been worried about a possible extremist attack since September 2005
when a Danish newspaper published 12 cartoons showing the Prophet Muhammad
The cartoons caused outrage and protests in the Muslim world
where any depiction of Muhammad generally is considered blasphemous
The newspaper said it had wanted to test whether cartoonists would apply self-censorship when asked to portray Muhammad
No Danish laws were violated with the cartoons’ publication

Banedanmark’s electrification of the line will be followed by the installation and introduction of a new signalling system
Banedanmark has announced the beginning of preparation work to electrify the stretch of track between Roskilde and Holbæk prior to the installation of a new signalling system
The project is set to provide a significant boost to operations along the line and
Project Director for Banedanmark’s Electrification Programme, Jette Aagaard, said: “Electrification provides a wide range of benefits for both passengers and those living and travelling by rail
The electrification benefits the environment as electric trains emit far less CO2 than diesel-powered trains
providing a better environment at the stations
the electric trains are able to run at a higher average speed
because we will eliminate a large part of the signal failures that the old systems has today.”
Banedanmark’s preparation works include the removal of any vegetation deemed too close to the track
Work on the first bridges and track will begin in March 2020
including the rebuilding or closure of four bridges and the lowering of track under an additional five bridges
The excavation of foundation holes for new drilling masts is also underway using machinery that gently removes the soil in order to avoid the destruction of important cables along the railroad

“But I think people here are becoming more and more hostile to foreigners and I’m not proud of it
Kramer is not alone in thinking that the tone of Denmark’s immigration debate has changed. In recent years, the rise of the rightwing anti-migrant Danish People’s party has led to previously radical positions becoming mainstream. And the country’s Muslim population in particular feels under siege. Earlier this month Danish MPs passed a law that
It imposes a penalty of 10,000 kroner (£1,200) for repeat offenders
In another move greeted with dismay by Denmark’s Muslims
a citizen’s proposal to ban the circumcision of children got the 50,000 signatures it needed to go to a parliamentary vote
the latest legislation has had a mixed reception
Kramer’s companion Hanne Madsen says: “On the burqa ban there were people who said
we are those who say: ‘If you have a problem come to me
but if you don’t want to take off your burqa or try to learn Danish…’” She throws up her hands in exasperation
The ban was backed not only by both the ruling centre-right Liberal party but also by the centre-left Social Democrats, whose rhetoric on Islam has started to rival that of the populist right in the last two years
said some Muslims “do not respect the Danish judicial system”
that some Muslim women refuse to work for religious reasons
and that Muslim girls are subject to “massive social control”
She has also called for all Muslim schools in the country to be closed
a local politician for the pro-immigration Social Liberal party
worries about where the two main parties’ rhetorical race to the bottom will lead
“They are almost fighting about who has the most extreme ideas,” he said
“With the burqa ban we’re talking about 40 people who are wearing it
Our government is making laws for just 40 people
And these 40 women will now be trapped in their homes from morning to evening

Tuncer’s party formally ended its 25-year electoral partnership with the Social Democrats over the party’s rightward turn on Islam and immigration
“I think it’s very ugly that the Social Democrats have become so extreme,” he says
“They’re worse than the [far-right] Danish People’s party.”
But he concedes that the party’s shift over the past two years has come in response to a change in public opinion
“They’ve smelt votes on this one,” he says
from: ‘Let’s help people even if they’re Muslims or immigrants’
to: ‘We have to take care of Danish people first.’”
Tuncer attributes the shift in mood to the rise of the Islamic State terror group and the refugee crisis
“It’s because of terror: 150 Danish citizens went to Syria to fight with Isis,” he said
“And of course the refugees cost a lot of money at the same time as
they didn’t didn’t have money to buy paper for schools
He also thinks that the kingmaker position that the populist Danish People’s party has enjoyed in politics recently is important
“That has of course meant that their policies in terms of immigration have spilled into the agenda of the other parties: not only the Liberal party
That has consistently put immigration on the agenda
It’s immigration in general and it’s Muslim immigration in particular.”
a couple of women in Islamic headscarves are browsing in the shops

it’s a bit more white and Danish,” says Dennis Petersen

teachers and other pupils were sensitive to the fact that she was a Muslim without it being a big deal
and the first thing they said is: ‘Are you a Muslim?’ The very first thing
She is particularly incensed by the recent call from Inger Støjberg, Denmark’s hardline immigration minister
for all Muslims to take holidays during this month’s Ramadan fast “to avoid negative consequences for the rest of Danish society”
“I don’t know what this lady is doing,” Mina says
“I can’t take a vacation just because I’m fasting
says the change in Danish opinion so disturbing that she is thinking of returning to Somalia
“You listen every day [about] Muslims doing this
“I think about what’s coming in the future
Holbæk council holds a meeting of its advisory committee on integration
a Social Democrat councillor with a Turkish background
Tuncer thinks both the Social Democrat and Liberal groups on the town council are split on immigration
And he does not think that Christina Krzyrosiak Hansen
the town’s Social Democrat mayor (and at 25
Denmark’s youngest) backs her party’s hardline stance
“I believe she doesn’t think this position is the right one
He says he has challenged Tamer on Facebook to respond to her party’s hardline position on Islam
“I don’t understand Muslim Social Democrats
so how can they just sit there and applaud?”
He wonders when or if a breaking point will come
“Now the Danish People’s party are saying that all schools and kindergartens should have to serve pork once a week,” he says

The boy was found guilty on a number of charges under Denmark’s criminal paragraph 114
He was found not guilty of other charges in the trial
Because Denmark’s age of criminal responsibility is 15
He was convicted of trying to recruit a friend to the far-right extremist group Feuerkrieg Division
but found not guilty of joining the group himself with the intention of committing an act of terror
Although he is a member of the extremist group
the court did not find it proven that he joined with the intent of committing one or more acts of terror
In addition to the attempt to recruit a friend
he was found guilty of distributing bomb and weapons manuals and other extremist material via the Telegram messaging app
He also guided others on organisation within the group and assisted in writing a pamphlet about Feuerkrieg Division
The five-and-a-half year sentence is longer than the five years argued for by the state prosecutor during the trial

“It says something about the seriousness of this case that he has got five and a half years in prison even though he did these things as a 15-year-old
I think it’s a clear verdict,” special prosecutor Rune Rydik said after the sentence was pronounced
His defence lawyer Lasse Martin Dueholm argued for no more than two years in prison or “the court’s mildest sentence”
prosecution and court all cited the boy’s age as a mitigating factor
He was arrested in April 2022 when police searched his bedroom at his parents’ home in western Zealand
a flag and armband with Nazi symbols and a copy of the manifest Mein Kampf
His mother was present for the verdict and sentencing at Holbæk District Court on Thursday
He denied guilt on all charges throughout the trial and has chosen to appeal the verdict
He hopes to be acquitted or given a milder sentence at a high court appeal
