Silkeborg and Vejle shared the spoilsČTK / imago sportfotodienst / Gonzales Photo/Morten KjaerNone of the teams in the relegation playoff managed to secure vital wins on Sunday when Lyngby-Viborg and Silkeborg-Vejle ended in draws. Silkeborg - VejleSilkeborg had the better of the opening stages of their game against Vejle
The home side often managed to find space to escape Vejle’s pressing game and took a deserved lead after nine minutes
when Callum McCowatt stole possession in midfield and delivered a finely-tuned through ball for leading goalscorer Tonni Adamsen who scored with a cool finish
and restored parity after 36 minutes when Anders Jacobsen delivered a perfect pass on a counter-attack for Dimitrios Emmanouilidis who provided a clinical finish past Silkeborg-keeper Nicolai Larsen
While the first half offered end-to-end action for the crowd in Silkeborg
the second half turned into a more tactical affair where both sides seemed more keen on preserving at least one point than going for the win
Silkeborg did manage to score just before the final whistle
when Alexander Simmelhack volleyed home a perfect cross from Julius Nielsen
Anosike Ementa and Lauge Sandgrav battle for the ballČTK / imago sportfotodienst / Gonzales Photo/Rune MathiesenLyngby - ViborgThe importance of the game was quite evident in Lyngby’s game against Viborg in a match rich on man-to-man action but with fairly few chances in the first half
Viborg did, however, have opportunities to pull ahead, when Isak Jensen barely missed the target after ten minutes and Renato Júnior wasted a glorious chance, when he came face with Lyngby-keeper Jonathan Aegidius, following a superb delivery from Thomas Jorgensen but couldn’t find the target.
Viborg dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half where they continued the promising display that set up the big chance for Renato Júnior at the end of the first half.
However, after Viborg-coach Jakob Poulsen replaced Isak Jensen, Srđan Kuzmić and Justin Lonwijk with Charly Nouck, Asker Beck og Jean Manuel Mbom, the visitors lost their grip on the game.
Lyngby looked more dangerous towards the end of the game and 10 minutes from time Saevar Magnússon came closest to breaking the deadlock with a long-range effort but the match ended goalless.

The home side began the game very nervously and were punished already after ten minutes when Tonni Adamsen was handed two chances of opening the score for the guest and he converted the second one to score his first goal since 4th November against FC Copenhagen
However, Brondby restored parity after 26 minutes when neat interplay between Yuito Suzuki and Sean Klaiber set up Nicolai Vallys who was left with an easy job of getting the match back on level terms
Brondby - Silkeborg - Player- RatingsFlashareA fast and furious first half continues, when the former Brondby-midfielder Jens Martin Gammelby put the visitors back in front after 36 minutes, when he curled an unstoppable shot into the far corner past the reach of Patrick Pentz to leave Brondby deeply worried as they headed for the interval.
The home crowd were made to wait for the equalizer in an anxious second half but Frederik Alves relieved the tension by pouncing on a loose ball in the box 13 minutes from the end which was enough to secure the all-important ticket for the playoffs.

Walsall co-chairman Ben Boycott insists the proposed takeover of Danish Superliga side Silkeborg IF is a sign of Trivela's "growth" rather than detracting focus away from Walsall or Drogheda.
On Tuesday, Trivela agreed to acquire an 80 per cent take in Silkeborg with the sale subject to the approval of two-thirds majority at a general meeting which is due to take place in mid-December.
If the deal is approved by the board of shareholders at Silkeborg then they will become the fourth club to operate under the Trivela umbrella alongside Walsall, Drogheda United and the grassroots club Trivela FC based in Togo.
Boycott confirmed that the initial figure offered to the shareholders of Silkeborg's holding company is in the region of £13million and that he does not expect the potential addition of Silkeborg to affect Walsall or Drogheda.
Boycott revealed in an interview on the club website: "We want a group of independent, important, well-run football clubs that matter in their local community and at some ways have collaborations and learnings with one another as we've seen with Walsall and Drogheda so far.
"But we're not kind of pre-scripting or pre-defining all of that. The bottom line is we want to invest in communities by investing in really well run football clubs and hopefully long-term can collaborate with one another and have some shared benefits.
"If they approve it, which they may or may not, then this fits into that.
"I wouldn't say it affects them at all (Walsall or Drogheda). I would point everybody to, I'm going to call it a bigger pie mentality and a growth mentality.
"If this is approved, Trivela is getting a little bit bigger and it may be tempting to look at it and say, ok Trivela have this finite set of resources and so that means there is going to be less here and more there.
"But the bottom line is that we've had some good success, we're growing and this is part of it so I don't think it's taking anything away from Walsall or Drogheda."
The proposed sale has been met with scepticism among the Silkeborg fanbase with over 100 supporters attending a peaceful protest outside the club's JYSK Park stadium on Tuesday evening.
Boycott addressed those concerns in a press conference in Denmark earlier this week and insists that Trivela are hoping to work alongside Silkeborg and add to the "legacy of excellence" which they've created.
"The message here in Denmark is very much business as usual and hopefully business as usual with more opportunities in long-term," he continued.
"We're very impressed by the football club about what they've been able to achieve from a sporting standpoint and what they've been able to achieve from an office and business standpoint.
"Fortunately, the current CEO, the CFO, sporting director and head coach will continue to be in those roles.
"So really I'd say is what they can expect from us is that we can come alongside them as partners and carry forward their legacy of excellent and continuous improvement then hopefully over time there's things we can add to that."
And Boycott also added that there are no immediate plans to add any more clubs to the Trivela portfolio.
"It's possible but I'll be honest and say right now we have no plans. No active conversations or anything like that," he revealed.
"If the shareholders approve us to become a part of this football club in Silkeborg then we'll have plenty to be getting on with.
"If and when we grow further, it'll be for the right reasons and in the right way."
Drogheda United owners Trivela are set to purchase a majority stake in Danish club Silkeborg.
The US-based investment firm have agreed a deal to buy an 80-per-cent stake in the top-flight side, adding to a portfolio that includes Drogheda and Walsall.
Silkeborg, who were founded in 1917 and are currently fourth in the Danish Superliga.
They've only won one league title and that was back in 1994 but won the Danish Cup for the second time in their history last year.
The side featured in Europe this season when they reached the Conference League third qualifying round in August where they were knocked out by Gent.
Drogheda have reaped the benefits of their link with Walsall recently, with the likes of Evan Weir and Douglas James-Taylor arriving on loan and standing out at the Louth club.
Trivela fully acquired Drogheda in 2023, and oversaw the club's FAI Cup triumph as well as their League of Ireland Premier Division survival in the past two weeks.

After purchasing the Saddlers in summer 2022 - the US firm made the move to buy Irish side Drogheda United in November 2023
they took over grassroots outfit Trivela FC
and now it has been announced that Trivela have reached an agreement with the board of directors at Danish side Silkeborg IF
The proposal from the Saddlers' owners will be put before shareholders of Silkeborg Invest for a vote at an extraordinary general meeting in December
and Trivela managing director Ben Boycott explained how he is excited to be adding another well run club to the portfolio
He said: "I’m pleased with Trivela’s potential move into Denmark
with the proposed acquisition of Silkeborg IF
"The management at Silkeborg has done an outstanding job running a competitive and profitable club these past many years
and it has been a pleasure to get to know them as we’ve sketched out this proposed transaction
and experiencing good sporting success of late as well
"I have a great deal of respect for the club
and am very hopeful to be invited in to be a part of it
if the Silkeborg Invest shareholders deem to approve us as owners.”
The side currently sits fourth in the Danish Superliga
are the reigning champions of the Danish Cup and have competed in Europe this year
The club has also earned plaudits for being in the top ten most financially sustainable top flight clubs in Europe
it has been confirmed that Trivela has already completed a full due diligence of the club and they have already been approached by Danish league officials
Boycott goes on to explain that he hopes the move will benefit the other clubs under the Trivela umbrella - and has cited examples where Walsall and Drogheda have been able to work closely
He added: "As I’ve always said to our supporters in Walsall and Drogheda
it will have to be of benefit to all parties – we won’t do it just to do it
"I hope that our supporters can see and feel the shared benefits thus far
with player collaboration on the likes of Evan Weir and Douglas James Taylor benefitting both DUFC and WFC
and shared supporter experiences such as this summer’s Trivela Cup and the recent FAI Cup Final
which a number of Walsall supporters attended
"We believe that these benefits will be felt even more as we add Silkeborg to the Trivela family
with the potential for mutually-beneficial player movement between clubs
potential technical and administrative staff career advancement and development opportunities inside the group
and even more shared supporter experiences between clubs
“I’d also honour the work that has been done at Silkeborg in the areas of operational efficiencies and player development through the domestic academy there
"Adding this club to the Trivela Group is adding some real knowledge and experience in areas where we want to improve across the board
very well that we can learn from and implement throughout the group."
Boycott and Walsall chief executive Ben Sadler will release a video message regarding the takeover and what it means for the Saddlers
Having seen their perfect start to the 2024-25 Danish Superliga campaign come to an end last time out, Randers will do battle against Silkeborg at Cepheus Park on Sunday afternoon
make the journey in search of back-to-back league victories for the first time this term after returning to winning ways in their last domestic outing
Off the back of a strong end to pre-season
Randers made a fast start to their league journey with 3-2 and 3-1 victories over Vejle and Viborg respectively in their first two outings
However, Rasmus Bertelsen's men had to make do with a share of the spoils against FC Copenhagen last time out in a 1-1 stalemate at the Parken Stadium on Sunday
Nonetheless, a tally of seven points from three matches represents the Horses' best start since 2021, and they currently sit third in the Danish Superliga table
level on points with leaders Nordsjaelland
Randers also boast the joint-best attacking record in the division so far with seven goals
which augurs well for a team that only managed two goals across their final three league games of the previous campaign
With three of their next four games coming at home where they are unbeaten in six straight competitive games
Sunday's hosts will be looking to continue their early-season momentum in the quest to secure a first league title ever
Silkeborg just about did enough to come away with maximum points courtesy of a 3-2 triumph in a five-goal thriller against Viborg on Sunday afternoon
This was in keeping with SIF's high-scoring clashes this season
with their last five involvements across all competitions yielding 21 goals since a narrow 1-0 win over Sonderjyske on matchday one
Kent Nielsen's men have now won two of their three league matches either side of a 2-1 defeat against Aalborg to leave them fifth in the standings
Silkeborg will head into this weekend's encounter with just a three-day turnover from their last outing following a 2-2 draw against Belgian outfit Gent in the first leg of the sides' Conference League qualifier
Sunday's visitors are on the road in their next two games and having not won a competitive game away from home since May
they will be keen to turn their fortunes around
Randers trio Edgar Babayan, Noah Shamoun and Oliver Zanden are all unavailable for this one as they continue to nurse respective injury problems
Forward Florian Danho is ineligible to play any part in this one after receiving his marching orders in the draw against Copenhagen
Frederik Lauenborg was hauled off with an injury scare 11 minutes after scoring last time out
and the Dane is a major doubt for this weekend
This should see 18-year-old Sabil Hansen make his first start of the season, although Hugo Andersson is also a potential candidate to come into the lineup
Alexander Busch is without an outing for Silkeborg since early February due to a knee injury
which is set to keep him out of Sunday's game
With one eye on his side's European commitment in midweek
Kent Nielsen could contemplate making a number of changes to keep the energy levels high
Andreas Pyndt will be pushing for a return to the XI after coming off the bench to set up Tonni Adamsen's stoppage-time equaliser against Gent
The aforementioned Adamsen has found the back of the net four times in his last two appearances for the away side
Randers possible starting lineup:Izzo; Dyhr
Silkeborg possible starting lineup:N Larsen; Sonne
The last five editions of this fixture have resulted in a combined 21 goals
and we are expecting another entertaining affair here
We are also backing the teams to cancel each other out and settle for a point apiece in the end.For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here
The 2024-25 Danish Superliga season gets underway this weekend and Silkeborg will be looking to secure an opening-week victory when they take on SonderjyskE at JYSK Park on Sunday
Silkeborg enjoyed an impressive 2023-24 league campaign where they managed a top-half finish
while the visitors secured the title in the Danish 1st Division to return to the top flight
Silkeborg will enter the new season brimming with confidence following what turned out to be a memorable 2023-24 season
which included not only a top-half finish but also a piece of silverware
The White Wolves ended last campaign in sixth place with 36 points and went all the way in the DBU Cup
securing a 1-0 victory over AGF in the final
to earn their first trophy in over two decades
Not only did that win secure a rare cup trophy for the side
but it also earned them a spot in Europa League qualification where they will face Norwegian side Molde in the first of two matches next week
Indeed, the major task for Kent Nielsen now is to follow up on that performance by reaching the Championship round again, although it will not be easy with some of his star players from last season now departed, such as midfielder Stefan Teitur Thordarson
the hosts will be confident of getting off to a winning start to the campaign
having faced this opponent in a preseason friendly earlier this month which they won 2-1 on the road
SonderjyskE had to spend two seasons in the first division after missing promotion at the first time of asking in the 2022-23 campaign by just two points
last season they left nothing to chance as they led the way for the majority of the campaign and ended three points ahead of runners-up AaB and a massive 19 points ahead of Kolding in third place
Additionally, Thomas Norgaard's side also stood out above the rest statistically by completing the season as the team with the highest number of goals scored and the fewest goals conceded
if they can replicate that sort of form in the Superliga
they could prove to be a difficult team to defeat
although that is easier said than done for a club with one of the smallest budgets in the division
For the hosts, Alexander Busch is likely to miss the first few games of the season due to injury, while Jens Martin Gammelby may also be unable to compete as he is flagged as a doubt
Anders Klynge, Callum McCowatt and Younes Bakiz all picked up knocks during Silkeborg's preseason campaign and will have to pass late fitness tests to feature in this season-opener
Sonderjyske bid farewell to three players who were part of the side that suffered the drop back in 2021-22, with Emil Berggreen, Jonas Thorsen and Christoffer Remmer all being released this summer
However, the club have brought in the likes of highly-rated youngster Alexander Lyng, as well as Mohamed Cherif Haidara and Jakob Busk, who is expected to challenge Nicolai Flo for the number-one jersey this season
Silkeborg possible starting lineup:Larsen; Sonne
SonderjyskE possible starting lineup:Busk; Oggesen
While Sonderjyske enjoyed a very impressive season in the first division last season
they will know better than most that stepping up to the top fight and being competitive from the off is not an easy task
Silkeborg will be judged this season on their ability to follow up on their positive performance last term
and they will likely see this as the best fixture they could have hoped for to get the new league campaign underway

Silkeborg are set to host Molde at JYSK park in the second leg of their Europa League second qualifying round matchup on Thursday evening
The hosts will need a strong performance at home if they are to advance as they need to overturn a two-goal deficit following a 3-1 defeat in the first leg in Norway
widely perceived as the underdogs going into the first leg at Aker Stadion
but the Danish side's positive performance would have boosted their confidence heading into the second leg
Kent Nielsen's side went one behind just two minutes into the game after Marcus Andre Kaasa's opener
but Silkeborg fought back to level the score on the 35th minute before eventually losing 3-1
despite matching their opponents' shot count by the end of 90 minutes
Nielsen will be hopeful that his side can overturn the defeat with at least a two-goal victory in their home leg
but with a record of just nine wins in 25 European home matches
Silkeborg suffered a second consecutive defeat following their first leg loss
disappointingly being beaten 2-1 by newly-promoted Aalborg
leaving Nielsen's side with one win and one loss from their opening two league fixtures
As for their visitors, Erling Moe will be pleased with his side's 3-1 victory in the first leg
putting his team firmly in the driving seat to advance into the third qualifying round and get one step closer to a place in the revamped Europa League league phase
Molde have struggled away from home in European competition
losing seven of their last nine matches on the road with their only victories coming against Legia Warsaw and BK Hacken with 3-0 and 3-1 scorelines
Molde are midway through their season with just under half of the fixtures remaining
and Moe will be hoping a strong run in Europe could spark their league campaign
as they currently sit fourth in the table after finishing fifth last year
a far cry from their six consecutive top-two finishes between 2017 and 2022
They have lost both of their last two league matches
leaving them on a run of three games without a victory in the Norwegian Eliteserien
a streak that Moe will be desperate to end following the upcoming second leg
Magnus Wolff Eikrem is likely to play a vital role in their upcoming matches
with the 33-year-old striker already netting 10 goals in 18 games this season
The hosts will be without up to five players for this one as Alexander Madsen, Callum McCowatt, Fredrik Carlsen, Pelle Mattsson and Younes Bakiz are all injured
Last season's top scorer, Alexander Lind
scored his first of the campaign against Molde last time out
and the forward is expected to start in this one
As for Molde, they will be without both Fredrik Gulbrandsen and Veton Berisha due to injuries that they are not expected to return from until early next month
Kristoffer Haugen was forced off in the 55th minute of their defeat to Viking FK last time out, and the midfielder is a doubt for this one, leaving Mathias Fjortoft Lovik likely to replace him in the side
Molde possible starting lineup:Posiadala; Amundsen
While Silkeborg have the home advantage in this game and Molde have struggled in recent weeks, we believe the visitors have a stronger squad than their opponents and will hold on to a draw to progress into the next round here. For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here
The second round of matches in the 2024 Danish Superliga campaign pits Aalborg BK against Silkeborg at the Aalborg Portland Park on Sunday
Both teams came away empty-handed from their respective last outings and now go in search of a pick-me-up this weekend
Silkeborg suffered a huge blow in their quest to qualify for the Europa League following a 3-1 defeat against Molde in Thursday's meeting at Aker Stadion
This came off the back of a 1-0 triumph over Sonderjyske in SIF's Superliga curtain-raiser
and they currently sit fourth in the standings
With the second leg of their European qualifier to come after Sunday's affair
the visitors could certainly do with a dominant display here before they attempt to overturn a two-goal deficit four days later
Aalborg were on the receiving end of a comprehensive 3-0 loss to Nordsjaelland when the teams locked horns at Right to Dream Park on Friday
Menno van Dam's men headed into the locker room with a mountain to climb having gone behind to strikes from Marcus Ingvartsen and Peter Ankersen, after which Mads Hansen sealed the deal two minutes from time
As a result, De Bolchestribede are bottom of the Danish Superliga table at the moment
Lying in store next is the challenge of an opposing outfit who have only lost one of the last 11 editions of this fixture across all competitions
Off the back of a first defeat on home turf since May in their most recent home outing
Sunday's visitors will be eager to return to winning ways in front of what is set to be an expectant home crowd
Aalborg's John Iredale had an official debut to forget last time out as he was hooked off at half time
and the forward could have to make do with a place on the bench in this one
Jubril Adedeji is still unavailable for the home side having not made an appearance since mid-May due to injury
Long-term absentee for Silkeborg Alexander Busch is still a considerable way off making his return to action from an injury he picked up earlier this year
Defender Andreas Poulsen will have some familiar faces in the opposition camp as he takes to the field for the away side having previously spent two years at Aalborg
Aalborg BK possible starting lineup:Muller; Arnorsson
Silkeborg possible starting lineup:Larsen; Ostrom
Goals have been a constant feature of this fixture and we expect this weekend's game to follow suit. That said, we are backing a share of the spoils with honours even at the end of the 90 minutes. For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here
celebrates with Drogheda United co-chairman Benjamin Boycott after retaining Premier Division status
Drogheda United owners Trivela are set to secure a majority share of Danish top-flight side Silkeborg IF
with player transfers between the pair likely going forward
who also own League Two side Walsall as well as Drogheda
have today reached an agreement with the Danish club to acquire an 80pc stake
with the move to be voted on by shareholders at an EGM next month
Silkeborg were founded in 1917 and are currently fourth in the Danish Superliga
won their only league title in 1994 and won the Danish Cup for the second time in their history last year
They reached the Conference League third qualifying round in August where they were knocked out by Gent
Kevin Doherty’s side have benefitted from their relationship with Walsall of late
with the likes of Evan Weir and Douglas James-Taylor arriving on loan at the Louth club
The latter has made a big contribution this season
helping Drogheda to a first FAI Cup win since 2005 this month as well as Premier Division safety in last weekend’s play-off win over Bray Wanderers
Trivela also added Togo grassroots club Trivela FC to their portfolio recently
with Silkeborg now set to become the group's fourth football club
insists there will be shared benefits to the multi-club arrangement
“As I’ve always said to our supporters in Walsall and Drogheda
it will have to be of benefit to all parties – we won’t do it just to do it,” said Boycott
who will also be releasing a video message later this week to provide clarity on the news along with CEO Ben Sadler
“I hope that our supporters can see and feel the shared benefits thus far
“We believe that these benefits will be felt even more as we add Silkeborg to the Trivela family
“This move into Denmark is a significant investment as well
being made due to the sporting and financial excellence of the football club
and what we perceive to be excellent and mutually beneficial synergies between SIF and our current family of clubs.”
Silkeborg and Viborg FF square off in the Danish Superliga on Sunday looking to improve on their mixed start to the new season
While the home side sit in fifth position in the standings
the visitors are down in 10th spot after collecting just the solitary point
With European competition acting as a distraction
Silkeborg were always going to struggle to put together the ideal start in this year's top flight
Nevertheless, Kent Nielsen may be satisfied with the three points that have been accumulated from their opening double-header
with the success coming by a 1-0 scoreline at home to Sonderjyske
A 2-1 reverse has since been posted at Aalborg
less than ideal preparation for the second leg of their Europa League second qualifying round tie against Molde
Silkeborg battled hard to secure a 3-2 victory over the Norwegian giants
only to succumb 5-4 on aggregate to drop into the Europa Conference League
priority will be placed on getting another win on the board in the Superliga
with the opportunity being there to keep pace with the early frontrunners
they are still searching for their first success of the campaign
yet some context is required when judging their early matches
A 3-3 draw was earned against Brondby on the opening weekend
their opponents remarkably coming from behind on three occasions and scoring twice in added on time
Jakob Poulsen's side then went down 3-1 to a Randers outfit who are one of only two teams to prevail in both of their early fixtures
although they possess the worst defensive record during the early stage of the campaign
Having gotten the better of Molde across 90 minutes on Thursday
Nielsen may be prepared to select a similar Silkeborg XI
Younes Bakiz came off the substitutes' bench to replace Alexander Lind at half time in the aforementioned game
Despite his dismissal versus Molde, Ramazan Orazov is in contention for a recall in central midfield
Meanwhile, Oliver Bundgaard was an early withdrawal for Viborg last time out and seems likely to be replaced by Srdjan Kuzmic at left-back
Isak Jensen and Anosike Ementa are also pushing for opportunities in the final third having been introduced before the hour mark against Randers
Viborg FF possible starting lineup:Lund; Anyembe
With Viborg having scored twice as many goals as their hosts, they cannot be ruled out from winning this contest. However, with home advantage and a stronger defensive record in their favour, we are backing Silkeborg to edge this game by the odd goal in three. For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here
This 3,000-year-old pot was found with burnt cheese residue still inside
Denmark currently holds the title of world's happiest country. But we could imagine at least one Norseman back in time who, after a failed cooking attempt, probably felt little of the famed Danish hygge
archaeologists have unearthed a wholly intact Bronze Age clay pot containing a cheesy and charred residue burned to its inside
a lot like when you've had a fire and the ashes have been burning so hot that they sometimes cinder together
"It seems to be related to myseost from Norway
myseost — or mysost — is a cheese redolent of sweet caramel notes
Its discovery can also be attributed to its container
the vessels we find would be smashed to bits and deposited on the hillside in lake areas
organic material would be damaged," he says
this [dig] is on a hilltop and the pit [where we found the pot] was dug into a clay deposit
After delivering microscopic samples of the vitrified material to Denmark's National Museum, Kaj and his team got their answer: "What we've found are bovine lipids," says chemist and senior consultant Mads Christian Christensen of the National Museum in Denmark
"These acids are not common in ordinary animal fats
where there are a lot of bacteria that produce such carbon fatty acids."
Now, previous archaeological finds have suggested humankind has been making cheese for at least 7,000 years
trial and error appears to be a timeless method to the madness of creating good food
"We all know what happens when you overheat normal cheese in the oven — it stinks like you wouldn't believe," says Kaj
My guess is that this vessel was smoking and stinking the place up
The easiest way was to carry it outside and deposit it upside down in the pit and then cover it — done with that

West Ham United have no fresh injury concerns after a weekend without a first-team fixture following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Nayef Aguerd (ankle) remains on the sidelines
Aaron Cresswell (groin) and Tomáš Souček (foot) have been nursing injuries
Maxwel Cornet was withdrawn with a knock during the Group B win over FCSB at London Stadium last Thursday
Silkeborg IF were drawn out of Pot 4 in the UECL group-stage draw
Former Aston Villa and Denmark defender Kent Nielsen’s side play in the Danish Superliga and qualified for the group stage after losing to Finnish side HJK 2-1 on aggregate in the UEFA Europa League play-off round
Silkeborg have been crowned Superliga champions once in their history
and returned to the top-flight as recently as 2018/19
when they were crowned 1st Division champions
SIF won the Danish Cup for the first and only time in 2001 and finished runners-up in 2018
while Thursday's hosts also lifted the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1996
Among the notable former Silkeborg players was Henrik Pedersen
who scored 96 goals for the club in two spells between 1995 and 2012
broken by seven seasons in England with Bolton Wanderers - where he was a teammate of Kevin Nolan - and Hull City
Neilsen's squad is almost exclusively made up of Danish players
including towering former Aston Villa centre-forward Nicklas Helenius and highly-rated 22-year-old winger Sebastian Jørgensen
Thursday's referee will be the experienced Portuguese official Fábio Veríssimo
the 39-year-old has been refereeing in Portugal's Primeira Division for the past nine seasons
A veteran of 134 top-flight matches in his homeland, Veríssimo has also taken charge of two FIFA World Cup qualifiers
17 UEFA Club Competition fixtures and three UEFA Nations League ties
He was the referee when Declan Rice scored his first goal for England in a 4-0 Nations League A win over Iceland at Wembley in November 2020
With the fight for the Danish Superliga title having gone down to the final day of the season, FC Midtjylland will set out to regain top spot on Sunday when they welcome Silkeborg to the MCH Arena
The hosts dropped behind Brondby in the title race following a draw with Nordsjaelland last time out but only trail the leaders on goal difference
while their visitors are unable to improve on their current standing in sixth spot
FC Midtjylland head into the final day of the Danish Superliga season aiming to win top-flight title for the fourth time in their history
having surrendered pole position last time out after moving top with a fine run
The Ulvene finished the regular season in top spot with 48 points from 22 games
but they would go on to sit four points behind leaders Brondby with five fixtures remaining following back-to-back defeats in the middle of the playoff stage
with the latter being a 3-0 beating at the hands of Sunday's visitors
Now trailing the new leaders on goal difference in their bid to regain the title they last won in 2020
FC Midtjylland head into the final day knowing they can only focus on picking up a victory on home turf while hoping Brondby drop points to bring the trophy back to the MCH Arena
In their way stand a visiting side who will also bid to get back to winning ways to round off the season
albeit with less to compete for in the top six
Despite a dismal end to the Danish Superliga regular season
in which they finished with five straight defeats
Silkeborg were able to maintain sixth spot and move into the Championship group as a result
and they have failed to keep pace with the top four since
now confined to a sixth-placed finish with 35 points on the board from their 31 outings with one left to play
It has certainly not been a season without success for Kent Nielsen's side
as they prevailed over AGF in early May to lift the Danish Cup title for the second time in their history
securing major domestic silverware for the first time since 2001 and booking a place in Europa League qualifying for next season as a result
Now unable to improve on their current standing but with plenty of positives to take having returned to the top six this year
Silkeborg will now bid to end a memorable season on a high with an impressive scalp away at FC Midtjylland
FC Midtjylland will remain without Alhaji Kamara and Marrony on Sunday
with the pair continuing spells in the treatment room
and Thomas Thomasberg may opt to deploy an unchanged starting XI from Monday's trip to Nordsjaelland
There will be competition in attack, though, with Gue-sung Cho
returning to contention and fighting to start
while Franculino is bound to again lead the line having moved onto 16 for the season at the age of 19 years old with goals in each of their last two outings
Mads Bech Sorensen and Sverrir Ingi Ingason will continue their centre-back partnership, having both got on the scoresheet in the recent draw with Nordsjaelland, while Oliver Sorensen is a mainstay in the midfield having made a team-high tally of 37 appearances so far this term
Silkeborg have a pair of enforced absentees of their own heading into the final game of the campaign, with defender Alexander Busch and midfielder Fredrik Carlsen both remaining sidelined
The Iceland international and Callum McCowatt will support whichever lone striker is preferred, while mainstay Mark Brink may again be joined by Pelle Mattsson and Mads Larsen in the midfield
FC Midtjylland possible starting lineup:Fraisl; Gabriel
Knowing only a victory may suffice if they are to stand a chance of clinching the Superliga title while hoping Silkeborg drop points, and with more quality in their ranks, we back FC Midtjylland to do the job and take all three points on home turf on the final day.For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here.
Predicted lineups are available for the match a few days in advance while the actual lineup will be available about an hour ahead of the match.

All Whites midfielder Callum McCowatt has signed for Danish Superliga club Silkeborg IF
McCowatt (24) moves from Danish first division side FC Helsingør for whom he has played more than 80 games since moving there in 2020
Announcing the signing, Silkeborg’s sporting director Jesper Stüker said:
“We are incredibly happy that we have succeeded in bringing Callum McCowatt to SIF
He is a dynamic player who is good at challenging and can find solutions on his own in front of goal
“He has proven in his career in Helsingør
in his home country and on the national team
that he is a goal threat and active in the last third of the pitch
“We believe we can develop Callum’s abilities even more here in SIF
where we believe he will fit well into our game system
and in SIF he is initially intended for a role as an 8
but we know that he is also capable as a 10.”

McCowatt said:
It is a lovely club and I have received an incredibly warm welcome
“I have been in Denmark for three years and followed Silkeborg IF from a distance
It seems to be a fantastic club that has really developed nicely in recent years
“I think SIF and I are the perfect match
I am an attacking midfielder who loves to score goals and make assists
I also appreciate a good tackle and hard work
So I’m really looking forward to getting started and meeting my teammates and the coaches and starting to contribute.”
McCowatt played his youth football for Greenhithe

West Ham United confirmed their place in the UEFA Europa Conference League round of 16 with a 1-0 Group B win over Silkeborg IF at London Stadium
The Hammers were dominant for long periods of the first half in east London on Thursday evening
but had only Manuel Lanzini's 24th-minute penalty to show for their efforts
And the Danish side grew in confidence after half-time
with the Superliga side forcing Alphonse Areola into a couple of important saves

He made 41 appearances with the club before sent to the club's B team
Usually accustomed to the pristine grass pitches of the Premier League
the plastic pitch at Silkeborg IF presented a different challenge for West Ham United players in their UEFA Europa Conference League encounter last October
The Danish side are one of the few teams in Europe who play on an artificial surface and the Irons had to quickly adapt to the change under foot to overcome their opponents in Denmark
“It was a totally new experience for a lot of the players to play on a plastic pitch” explained Aaron Cresswell, speaking as part of ‘Massive | The story of West Ham United’s 2022/23 UEFA Europa Conference League triumph’
“I remember on the night the ball moved really fast
The passing stats for both teams night were really high because of the pitch”
Silkeborg were quick to take advantage of their familiar home turf and made life difficult for David Moyes’ men in the early stages
Jarrod Bowen recalled: “I remember in the game they caused us a lot of problems because it’s their home and they’re used to the way they play on it
the Hammers recovered to secure a hard-fought victory in Denmark with goals from Manual Lanzini
“I think it just goes to show that you’ve got to be different sometimes in European ties
There are different cultures and philosophies and I think different pitches come in to that as well
“It’s about adapting pretty to what’s around you and I think we did that and managed to win the game”

Thilo Kehrer and his West Ham United teammates are determined to ensure their European campaign continues its fast start when they take on Danish side Silkeborg IF on Thursday
The Hammers began their UEFA Europa Conference League Group B campaign with a 3-1 victory over FCSB at London Stadium a week ago and now have the chance to make it a perfect six points from six
West Ham managed that feat in their successful Europa League campaign last year
and Kehrer is well aware how much a strong beginning would help the team down the line
The Germany defender was involved in the play-off round victory over Silkeborg’s Danish Superliga counterparts Viborg and says the team will be ready for Thursday night’s challenge too
“To win the first game was important to us,” Kehrer confirmed
“We know that a good result in the group leads also to getting to the next round and taking the good feeling into the next game
“For us it is important and we want to continue with that on Thursday with a good result and then hopefully get out of the group
“Many teams would be happy to play in Europe
It is just a privilege to teams and we see it as that too
For us it’s very important and we want to go as far as possible
“I think West Ham’s name is one that gets bigger and bigger
You see the signings that came in the summer
and the development in general over the past few years
“It’s getting more known around Europe and in people’s eyes
Everything is on a very good way and we want to keep on getting up and up.”
Kehrer’s start to life in east London has been a whirlwind
and has already made seven appearances for his new Club
He feels being thrown in at the deep end has helped his settling in period
and says there is plenty more to come over the season ahead
“I feel like I’ve had a kick-start to my West Ham career
directly into it by playing the games straight away,” he continued
“In my opinion it’s also the best way to get to know the team
to integrate inside the club and get to know each other
“I didn’t have so many games in pre-season so I didn’t have a rhythm
so having my debut and playing right away felt really good for me
“I also needed a little bit of time for my body to adapt and get really fit
That adaptation period applies to the team as a whole
with eight new additions making their way to London Stadium this summer
Kehrer has added further depth to a defensive group which includes the likes of Kurt Zouma
Craig Dawson and – when he returns from injury – Nayef Aguerd
He feels that level of competition will only benefit the players in his position and the team as a whole
“The new additions are exciting and interesting for everybody and for us to play our best game
it needs some time for us to find each other and know each other in the best way,” he added
“We’re doing it in the best way possible and are working on it together with the coaching staff
I never knew anything different – in all the teams I have ever played that has been big competition
The manager has to take the decisions and for us as players we have to give everything to make the decision as hard as possible for the first eleven
“At the end this will only be positive for the team.”
Kehrer is expecting a similar challenge to that posed by Viborg and knows the Hammers will need to be on their game
and we will go against it with our qualities.”
