It was a landmark day for Crown Prince Christian of Denmark, who has arrived at Antvorskov barracks in Slagelse to enrol with the Grand Hussar Regiment. The 19-year-old will undertake four months of basic military training and will live at the barracks – an hour's drive from the royal residence, Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.
After their headline-making appearance at their cousin Prince William’s Centrepoint Awards in London, sisters Kitty, Amelia and Eliza talk about the causes (and clothes) close to their hearts in Tatler’s March 2025 cover story
The teenager told waiting media that he was ‘excited’ to get started at Antvorskov barracks in Slagelse
As he Prince passed through the gates to the barracks, he told the waiting media that he was ‘excited’ and ‘looking forward’ to the experience ahead of him, which is reportedly a gruelling test of both physical and mental fortitude. Luckily for Christian, the skills needed to succeed might just run in his family: King Frederik is known for his extensive military training and has held positions in all three national services.
The Jordanian royals shared a photograph as the foursome met up earlier this week
the King served as a staff officer at Defence Command Denmark
and in the years since has held a position as a senior lecturer at the Institute of Strategy at the Royal Danish Defence College
Frederik even trained as a frogman in the naval elite special operations forces
one of the most notoriously challenging regimens the nation offers
Prince Christian is following in the footsteps of his father
who is known for his extensive military training
Prince Christian has been enjoying a gap year and, before following in his father's footsteps, spent time working in East Africa – an experience into which he recently gave a rare insight via Instagram. In the post, shared to the official Instagram of the Danish Royal Family
Christian offered a behind-the-scenes look at his trip
Several pictures showed him getting stuck in with volunteering
carrying buckets of water and laying bricks
while others saw him smiling on the back of a quad bike
appearing to tag a tranquilised lion and playing football with the locals
‘But now I'm also starting to look forward to returning home to the family in Denmark and celebrating Christmas in a few weeks
And now I'm looking forward to new challenges
In February I'll start working as a military officer.’

Prince Christian joined his family for his first ever New Year’s levée at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen
Now, Christian will have to shelve his grand royal garbs for a uniform of a different kind, and shun his princely duties in favour of military rigour. If he takes after his father, however, he'll be more than up to the challenge.

Crown Prince Christian of Denmark has reunited with his parents, King Frederik and Queen Mary during Military service.
The King and Queen paid a visit to the Guard Hussar Regiment in Slagelse, where they had the opportunity to see Crown Prince Christian in his new surroundings and meet his fellow recruit.
Taking to its Instagram account on Saturday, the Danish Royal family shared glimpses from the reunion.
In the first photo, Christian could be seen embracing his father while another showed him with his mother, Queen Mary, and siblings, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.
"For over a month, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince has been serving as a conscript at the Guard Hussar Regiment in Slagelse," the caption noted.
It continued, "The company's families were today invited to a visit day at the barracks, where the Royal Family had the opportunity to experience the Crown Prince in his new surroundings and meet the rest of his fellow recruits."
"It is a long tradition that members of the Royal House serve in the Armed Forces. His Majesty the King has himself completed military service, and in 1988 the King was, among other things, a platoon commander at the Guard Hussar Regiment," the Palace added.
Christian, Crown Prince of Denmark, the eldest child of King Frederik X and Queen Mary, is the heir apparent to the Danish throne.

The trip strengthened ties between the two clubs, marking two years of effort by both organisations to build on their shared Viking heritage.
Attending were Finn Berggren, Mark Breen, Anne Christine Frank Larsen, Brian Tynan, President, Waterford Rotary and Eamonn McEneaney. Photo: John PowerDuring the visit opportunities to collaborate with each other were explored with the aid of Danish Embassy support in Dublin and the Irish Embassy in Denmark. Waterford Rotary Club members were delighted to host the Danish delegation and have the opportunity to showcase Waterford’s wealth of history and Viking legacy in the city.
The visit culminated in a gala dinner in the Medieval Museum where special guests included the Metropolitan Mayor Councillor Jodie Power, Rosemary Ryan, Acting Curator and Manager, Waterford Treasures, and Eamonn McEneaney, former Museum Director, who shared little known insights on local Viking ancestors.
Lars Thuro and Morten Frank Nielsen. Photo: John Power “We are delighted to have this opportunity to get to know our Danish colleagues and look forward to strengthening relationships between the two clubs and regions in the future” said Brian Tynan, the current President of Rotary Waterford.
“Indeed the Waterford club intends on reciprocating the visit, with one to Denmark this coming September,” he added.

A key feature of the newly forged relationship between the two Rotary clubs is a mutual student Danish / Irish exchange.
Last June marked the inaugural exchange, when Ben Leahy from St. Pauls Community College had the opportunity to visit Denmark for a week-long trip, while Alexander Noort Hansen, from Slagelse was immersed in Waterford life, culture and history.
This year marks the second visit when De La Salle student Liam Nolan will depart for Denmark.
