Jon Muq has made waves since relocating to Austin Texas and leaving his mark on the American roots music scene Earlier this year he released his debut full-length album That’s the project from which Muq’s first selection is pulled On a waterside boardwalk with a marshy backdrop Muq offers “Bend,” a song about resiliency don’t let me love you,” Muq sings you’re strong enough to bend…” He offers his own take on a not-so-uncommon lyrical hook breathing freshness into it and bringing his own perspective to the idea that strength isn’t unflinching or stoic Muq performs “Hello Sunshine,” another track from Flying Away – one just perfect for August in Denmark hello sunshine/ Goodbye rainy days,” he begins foregrounding the hopeful message in the song’s text His message of encouragement and perseverance is more than apropos to carry with us into wintertime and our uncertain future (Whether facing a Scandinavian-level winter or one a bit more balmy.) These two tracks begin to illustrate the depth and breadth of Muq’s style With just one album to his name at this early point in his international career there’s certainly so much more great music to come from this singular roots artist Want to learn more about Jon Muq? Sunshine Tour Order of Merit delivered by The Courier Guy Van Tonder went into the final round seven shots adrift of leader Altin van der Merwe But the experienced Van Tonder applied the pressure most notably with a finish of four straight birdies for a 67 and the clubhouse target of 16 under par was at one stage of the final round six shots clear of the field But a double bogey on the seventh and then bogeys on the 13th and 17th holes drew him back into a playoff with Van Tonder Van Tonder made a solid par for the win while Van Der Merwe ended with a double-bogey seven put a bit of pressure on and then wait and see,” said Van Tonder This is also Van Tonder’s 12th victory as a professional And it’s given him a clear sense of what his immediate goal will be I’m finally No 1 again and I want to extend that lead even more.” Daniel van Tonder clearly has an affinity for Eswatini The South African professional won the FNB Eswatini Challenge by two strokes at the Nkonyeni Lodge and Golf ninth Sunshine Tour title but it’s his third in Eswatini after claiming his debut Sunshine Tour victory in the country in 2014 and then adding another here in 2020 He can also add a second place in 2012 to this list Van Tonder has been building towards this success following his finishes of eighth fourth and 20th in his previous three Sunshine Tour events He was level par through 12 holes of his final round and with Premlall busy putting together his magnificent 63 and challenging for his first Sunshine Tour title The young star birdied three of his first four holes as he went out in 30 He came home in 33 strokes and was leading on his own towards the end of his round before Van Tonder overtook him with two birdies and an eagle in his last six holes I did everything I could to get myself into a winning position I just gave myself chances the whole way through to see where I ended up,” Premlall said after claiming the highest finish of his Sunshine Tour career Kyle de Beer’s past few months keep my head down and do my thing,” Van Tonder said He recently moved back into first position on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit delivered by The Courier Guy and also took the lead on the HotelPlanner Tour’s Road to Mallorca van Tonder not just riding the wave but surfing the wave. 🌊 #MyGolfLifeOpen #GreatnessBeginsHere #SunshineTour pic.twitter.com/ezI5xoUDIw And whereas last week he came from seven shots back in the final round to win in a playoff I’ll just keep my foot on the gas and keep going But it’s quite nice to start the week with a round of 10 under par It makes my job a bit easier over the next three days The course is playing well and I feel like I left a few more birdies out there It places a premium on the tee shot so if you’re hitting it well you’ve got a chance.” Rama has made another good start for the second week in succession He finished tied 12th in last week’s SDC Open “My game’s been feeling good for a long time now Everybody is going to score well around here if the putts drop,” he said And Roets also continued with his good form after finishing tied fifth last week “I was three under through the first three holes and I’ve put myself in a good position If your short game is good here then the scores are out there I’m definitely building on the confidence of last week,” he said Daniel van Tonder ended 2024 having been knocked off his No 1 position on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit delivered by The Courier Guy and he’s determined to get that back as he heads into the weekend of the Mediclinic Invitational just one shot off the lead Van Tonder signed for a sublime 63 at the Heron Banks Golf and River Estate on Friday to come through 36 holes on 12 under par one stroke behind leader Maximilian Steinlechner from Austria Steinlechner has put together two rounds of 64 and 65 to lead this Sunshine Tour event Leader at the halfway point 🇦🇹 Maximilian Steinlechner made this eagle 🦅 on the 15th hole. 👏#MediclinicInvitational #GreatnessBeginsHere #SunshineTour pic.twitter.com/jA1xbW4GgU It is so far a positive start to 2025 for Van Tonder as he chases a win so early in the year and that No 1 spot which he relinquished to Shaun Norris at the end of last year How things stand at the haflway point of the #MediclinicInvitational 📊#GreatnessBeginsHere #SunshineTour pic.twitter.com/8zrbmvABOz “It’s nice to start the year well like this I want to take back my No 1 spot on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit delivered by The Courier Guy I’ve got a few good tournaments coming up to do so He is also chasing his first victory as a new father following the birth of his daughter “Our daughter was born when I was playing the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December Then I played in Mauritius the week after that so I missed them a lot Just looking at this small human being who is looking back at you and you just wonder what’s going through her head I must admit that seeing her smile for the first time has been the best for me so far.” The key to Van Tonder’s round on Friday was a strong second nine of 30. “It’s my first time playing this course and it’s quite tough. It’s long and tight. You have to hit fairways here. But I’m also very relaxed at the moment. I have a good friend caddieing for me and we talk and laugh a bit during the round. It’s almost the same as when my wife caddied for me. It’s a similar feeling. You can’t just think golf 24/7. You’d have to lock me up if that was the case.” A lot may have changed in Van Tonder’s life as he now takes on fatherhood. But one thing certainly hasn’t changed, and that will be his mindset this weekend. “I don’t want to come second. I want to win. That doesn’t change.” 132 - Wynand Dingle 66 66, Jonathan Broomhead 63 69 133 - Fredrik From 66 67, Altin van der Merwe 69 64, Jean Hugo 66 67, Jacques Blaauw 66 67, Jaco Van Zyl 66 67 134 - Benjamin Van Wyk 71 63, James Mack 68 66, JC Ritchie 67 67 135 -
