Silkeborg and Vejle shared the spoilsČTK / imago sportfotodienst / Gonzales Photo/Morten KjaerNone of the teams in the relegation playoff managed to secure vital wins on Sunday when Lyngby-Viborg and Silkeborg-Vejle ended in draws. Silkeborg - VejleSilkeborg had the better of the opening stages of their game against Vejle
The home side often managed to find space to escape Vejle’s pressing game and took a deserved lead after nine minutes
when Callum McCowatt stole possession in midfield and delivered a finely-tuned through ball for leading goalscorer Tonni Adamsen who scored with a cool finish
and restored parity after 36 minutes when Anders Jacobsen delivered a perfect pass on a counter-attack for Dimitrios Emmanouilidis who provided a clinical finish past Silkeborg-keeper Nicolai Larsen
While the first half offered end-to-end action for the crowd in Silkeborg
the second half turned into a more tactical affair where both sides seemed more keen on preserving at least one point than going for the win
Silkeborg did manage to score just before the final whistle
when Alexander Simmelhack volleyed home a perfect cross from Julius Nielsen
Anosike Ementa and Lauge Sandgrav battle for the ballČTK / imago sportfotodienst / Gonzales Photo/Rune MathiesenLyngby - ViborgThe importance of the game was quite evident in Lyngby’s game against Viborg in a match rich on man-to-man action but with fairly few chances in the first half
Viborg did, however, have opportunities to pull ahead, when Isak Jensen barely missed the target after ten minutes and Renato Júnior wasted a glorious chance, when he came face with Lyngby-keeper Jonathan Aegidius, following a superb delivery from Thomas Jorgensen but couldn’t find the target.
Viborg dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half where they continued the promising display that set up the big chance for Renato Júnior at the end of the first half.
However, after Viborg-coach Jakob Poulsen replaced Isak Jensen, Srđan Kuzmić and Justin Lonwijk with Charly Nouck, Asker Beck og Jean Manuel Mbom, the visitors lost their grip on the game.
Lyngby looked more dangerous towards the end of the game and 10 minutes from time Saevar Magnússon came closest to breaking the deadlock with a long-range effort but the match ended goalless.

The finds were made at Løsning Søndermark during the expansion of the E45 motorway
The discovery includes nearly 200 weapons and items that would have equipped a small army
The arsenal comprises 119 lances and spears
and a rare chainmail shirt—one of only 14 ever found in Denmark and the first recovered from a settlement rather than a burial site
Other notable artifacts include fragments of two bronze “oath rings,” symbols of power and influence in the Nordic Iron Age
an archaeologist from the Vejle Museums who led the excavation
we knew this was going to be extraordinary
but the excavation has exceeded all our expectations
The sheer number of weapons is astonishing
but what fascinates me most is the glimpse they provide into the societal structure and daily life of the Iron Age
We suddenly feel very close to the people who lived here 1,500 years ago.”
The artifacts were deliberately buried within two houses in the settlement
One deposit was made during the construction of a house
with weapons packed around its load-bearing posts
while the other was made during a house’s demolition
with weapons placed in the empty postholes
These practices suggest the offerings were part of ceremonial or sacrificial rituals linked to the residence of a powerful chieftain rather than items from a workshop or barracks
Archaeologists believe the weapons were likely spoils of war
as such practices of collecting and sacrificing war booty were common during the South Scandinavian Iron Age
further analysis will determine whether the items were locally produced or acquired from defeated enemies
an expensive and labor-intensive piece of armor
underscores the chieftain’s elite status
Such a garment was typically reserved for high-ranking warriors or leaders
and its sacrifice would have been a significant display of wealth and power
the chainmail and other items bear symbolic value
such as those from the nearby Vindelev Hoard
which feature figures holding rings as symbols of authority
typically found in bogs or funerary contexts
this discovery provides a rare glimpse into life within a settlement
The site’s unique nature adds valuable context to the understanding of social and military structures in Denmark during the waning days of the Roman Empire
The excavation leader Thomasen remarked on this broader significance: “The finds allow us to connect the dots between daily life
This site is a key to understanding the resilience and influence of Iron Age societies on the northern edge of the Roman Empire.”
including their origins and production methods
This research is expected to enhance understanding of the warriors
and the intricate social networks of the Iron Age

Archaeologists with the Vejle Museums have unearthed a 1,600-year-old weapon offering
a chainmail as well as two fragments of a Roman helmet
Elias Witte Thomasen uncovering the massive weapon offering at the site of Løsning Søndermark
“During the examination of one of the largest weapon deposits — offered in a posthole of a house — two unusual iron plates were unearthed
both roughly the size of a palm,” Vejle Museums archaeologist Elias Witte Thomasen and colleagues said in a statement
conservators and archaeologists were able to see beneath the thick layers of rust surrounding the objects.”
“The results revealed an extremely rare find — the remains of a Roman helmet.”
this find is the only known Roman helmet ever found in Denmark and the earliest iron helmet found in the country
“The two plates consist of a neck plate and a decorated cheek plate from a so-called crest helmet
a type used in the Roman Empire in the 4th century CE,” the researchers said
“Roman helmet finds from the Iron Age are exceptionally rare in southern Scandinavia
and there are no direct parallels to this discovery.”
“The few similar finds come from Thorsbjerg Moor in Schleswig or from southern Sweden and Gotland-none from Denmark.”
X-ray image of neck and cheek guard from the Roman helmet
The discovery raises a significant question: why were only the neck plate and one cheek plate discovered
“The answer lies in the nature of post-battle rituals during this period of the Iron Age
where weapons and military equipment were rarely deposited intact,” Dr
“Spearheads were separated from their shafts
and equipment was destroyed and divided among the parties involved in the conflict.”
“The missing cheek plate and helmet bowl were likely distributed elsewhere.”
“The helmet may have belonged to a Germanic warlord who served in the Roman auxiliaries
bringing his personal equipment home after his service ended,” he said
it could have been looted from a Roman legionary in battles closer to the Empire’s Germanic frontier and later brought to Jutland.”
“Both on its own and in relation to the broader deposition of weapons and military gear at the site
the helmet provides valuable insights into the military elite of the Iron Age and their connections to the powerful southern neighbor — the Roman Empire.”

Jelle Duin is out for the seasonOrange Pictures, Orange Pics BV / Alamy / ProfimediaVejle's Dutch striker Jelle Duin is probably out for the season, says coach Steffen Kielstrup in an interview with TV2 Sport.Duin put pen to paper on a 2,5 year contract with the struggling Danish Superliga outfit in January
but he has barely been in action and it could be a while before we will see the former AGF-striker back on the pitch
"He is injured and will not be in action this summer, so we do not have him available", sais Steffen Kielstrup after Tuesday's training
Jelle Duin will be recognized by most Danish football fans after scoring two goals in the last round of the 2022-2023 season to help AGF win bronze medals
The 26-year-old Dutchman took part in several of Vejle's test matches before the restart of the season and made his his debut against Silkeborg as a substitute. But apart from that, he has only played 15 minutes in the away match against Viborg
Duin's injury comes at a bad time as Vejle, who are bottom of the Danish Superliga, are desperate in need of firepower up front as leading goalscorer German Onugkha, who has otherwise scored eight goals in eight matches, has failed to find the net in the last two fixtures.
Vejle are six points behind Sonderjyske and AaB at the bottom of the league. The next task is on Thursday against Viborg at home.

but now local investors have taken over the ownership of the club
Klaus Eskildsen has owned 40 percent of the club under Zolotko
and he will still have a significant portion of the shares under the new ownership
The club mentions on its website that the other owners are Claus Bagger-Sørensen
"Vejle Boldklub means a lot to many people. Therefore, a Danish and local ownership is also the right way to go for the club now. It has been important to me that we have created a model that makes talented people want to come together to create a new sporting development in VB", says Eskildsen in a press release.
The change in ownership is not a big surprise. There have been several rumors of an imminent sale, and recently the rumors have increased.
Not least after the Romanian sporting director Marius Adrian Nicolae was fired at the end of January with three days left of the transfer window, and compatriot and head coach Mihai Teja on Sunday was sacked a week before the restart of the season.
A permanent replacement for Teja has not yet been appointed, but Steffen Kielstrup and Johnny Mølby have taken over responsibility on a temporary basis.

The Mail on Sunday & Metro Media Group
it could easily have turned into another miserable afternoon for the home side
Instead FC Midtjylland were saved by a penalty converted from Adam Buksa after 33 minutes after Lyngby keeper Jannich Storch collided with him in the box
The goal came totally against the run of play as the visitors produced chance after chance in the beginning of the match
without being able to captitalize on their dominance
In the last 30 minutes of the match the Danish champions looked more composed and managed to claim three points on a day when they certainly were far from their best
Vejle had really dominated the headlines going into this match as Romanian coach Mihai Teja was fired ahead of the restart of the Superliga while a group of 11 investors took over the ownership of the club when Andrew Zolotkos stepped down
It would take a miracle if Vejle are to escape relegation this season but they took the first step toward that miracle when they booked a hugely surprising 1-0 win away against Silkeborg IF
Silkeborg throughout the match failed to get into their usual stylish stride with neat interplay amongst their profiles as Vejle proved difficult to break down in the frosty conditions in Jutland
Instead Vejle took a surprise lead five minutes after the restart when German Onugkha directed a cross from David Čolina into the far corner of the goal
The home side never truly recovered from that shock and lost an opportunity to keep up with the top teams in the league
AGF this week chose to extend the contract with star striker Patrick Mortensen for one year and judging from the match against Sonderjyske this was a super decision as Mortensen scored a hat-trick to help the team from Aarhus to a 4-1 win and lift them into third spot in the domestic league
Both sides struggled to settle in the beginning of the match where none of them managed to create clear-cut scoring chances
But within two minutes (from the 24th to the 26th minute)
the visitors turned the tide in their favour as Mortensen first punished a blunder from Sonderjyske keeper Marcus Bundgaard and Icelandic midfielder Mikael Andersen launched a stinging drive from the distance into the net
Ivan Djantou then gave the home side a lifeline after 34 minutes but two further goals from Mortensen left the home side visibly deflated and they didn't find their way back into the match despite the fact that AGF had Mads Emil Madsen sent off for a second bookable offence after 66 minutes

Archaeologists in Denmark have uncovered a remarkable Iron Age weapon deposit near Hedensted
and a unique chainmail—now joined by another extraordinary discovery: fragments of a Roman helmet
conducted by The Vejle Museums as part of the expansion of a highway
has uncovered one of the largest known weapon sacrifices in Scandinavia
the deposit includes 119 lances and spears
and a rare chainmail—an elite piece of armour requiring immense skill and resources to produce
These weapons and military artifacts were not merely lost or abandoned; they were carefully buried within two houses
weapons were placed in postholes when the structure was dismantled
they were packed around roof-bearing posts before the house was even completed
Such placements hint at an offering tied to the residence of a powerful local chieftain
possibly to secure divine favour or commemorate a military victory
The already extraordinary find became even more remarkable with the identification of two iron plates discovered in a posthole
X-ray analysis revealed that they belonged to a Roman crest helmet from the 4th century
This marks the first time a Roman helmet has been found in Denmark
Roman helmets are exceptionally rare in southern Scandinavia
with the closest parallels found in Thorsbjerg Moor in Schleswig and parts of Sweden
The find raises intriguing questions: How did a Roman helmet end up in Jutland
bringing his personal equipment home after his service ended
it could have been looted from a Roman legionary in battles closer to the empire’s Germanic frontier and later brought to Jutland.”
the helmet was deliberately destroyed before being deposited
Only a decorated cheek plate and a neck plate survived
This aligns with known post-battle rituals in the Iron Age
where weapons were systematically dismantled before being sacrificed
the excavation uncovered fragments of at least two bronze neck rings
resembling those seen in the Vindelev Hoard and other depictions of Iron Age rulers
associated with rulers and warriors who swore loyalty to their leaders
indicates that the site was home to an elite warrior class with connections beyond Denmark—possibly even to the Roman Empire
The Løsning Søndermark site was continuously inhabited for nearly 500 years
home to influential individuals who commanded warriors and participated in military campaigns
The vast number of weapons uncovered provides tangible evidence of such conflicts
archaeologists hope to determine whether the weapons belonged to local warriors or were taken as war booty from defeated enemies
The latter would align with known South Scandinavian practices
where war spoils were often ritually deposited in wetlands
This discovery has already drawn international attention
briefly putting the small Jutland town of Løsning in the global spotlight
Starting February 8th parts of the weapon deposit
will be displayed at the Vejle Cultural Museum
this find promises to shed new light on the military
and religious dynamics of Iron Age Scandinavia
highlighting the region’s deep ties to the wider European world

Danish rider beats Arnaud De Lie into second and Søren Kragh Andersen into third
All three riders were part of a seven-rider break which formed early in the stage. It contained Sean Flynn (Team DSM–Firmenich PostNL), Matteo Trentin (Tudor Pro Cycling)
but separated by the Danish stage winner Cort by only 0.22 of a second at the very top of the GC
Tomorrow’s stage will be 156km from Kolding to Haderslev

Loaned-out Aberdeen centre-half Richard Jensen played his first game for almost FIVE months on Sunday
was drafted in to Danish Superliga strugglers Vejle Boldklub’s starting XI at Viborg by joint-boss Johnny Molby due to first-choice Stefan Velkov’s suspension
playing 90 minutes during what was his first appearance since October 4’s 2-2 draw with Aalborg (a game Jensen scored in)
Jensen dropped out of the picture at Vejle in the six league matches before Denmark’s three-month-long winter break
remaining frozen out during the return win at Silkeborg and then subsequent draw with Brondby
he was deployed in his favoured left centre-half position at the weekend
Jensen’s inclusion did not prevent rock-bottom
relegation-threatened Vejle conceding three first half goals to all-but-end the fixture as a contest
The Finn also played a role in Justin Lonwijk’s second for Viborg – Jensen slipping as he tried to cut out the attacker’s initial cross
before effectively laying off the scorer with a desperate attempt to head the ball away from danger while lying prone on the turf at Viborg Stadion
Jensen was also bamboozled by Serginho’s dancing feet on his wrong side in the immediate build-up to the third goal
In the aftermath of the game, Vejle co-head coach Molby – whose side are a point behind Lyngby at the foot of the Danish top-flight – said: “We are too nice defensively
and Viborg exploit that coldly and cynically.”
Jensen was signed by Aberdeen in summer 2023 after the Dons paid Polish outfit Gornik Zabrze £400,000 for the stopper’s services
and he is still contracted to Aberdeen until summer 2026
The Finland international played 35 times in all competitions for Aberdeen last season – including in Europa Conference League group matches against Eintracht Frankfurt
But his only game-time under current Dons boss Jimmy Thelin this season
came late in the Premier Sports Cup group victory over East Kilbride
there were some positives for Aberdeen’s other loaned-out players over the weekend
back at League One Cove Rangers following a brief Reds recall
netted yet another goal early in Cove’s eventual 2-1 loss at Alloa Athletic
Emslie’s fellow Aberdeen youngsters Findlay Marshall and Dylan Lobban also played the full 90 minutes for Cove
teed up Nikola Ujdur’s closing goal in Queen’s Park’s 4-0 win at Raith Rovers

Gameweek four in the Danish Superliga will get underway on Friday night at the MCH Arena where Midtjylland will be playing host to a struggling Vejle
The hosts have taken five points from their first three matches of the season and are in sixth place at present
while the visitors are bottom of the table and yet to get off the mark
After a slightly sluggish start to the season that saw them draw the opening two league matches
Midtjylland seem to have hit their stride over the last two weeks and enter this contest following three consecutive wins in all competitions
The most recent of those victories came in midweek when they secured a vital 2-0 lead in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie against Hungarian league champions Ferencvaros
Midweek's victory also marked the Wolves' third consecutive match without conceding
following a 1-0 win over Andorran outfit UE Santa Coloma and a 2-0 win over AaB Aalborg at this venue last weekend
Thomas Thomasberg's side have now won all three of their home matches this season
extending their unbeaten record at MCH Arena to seven in a row
Midtjylland won the last meeting between these sides 3-0 last season and have been the dominant side in this contest in recent years
winning five and drawing one of the last six encounters
Velje spent a large chunk of last season flirting with relegation but managed to avoid the drop with an excellent playoff round where they managed five wins and a draw in their final 10 matches
they have begun the 2023-24 campaign in the worst way possible
losing their first three league games in a row
making them the only team in the division yet to manage a point this season
In contrast to last term when they had the third-best defensive record of 36 goals conceded in 32 matches
De Rode have already let in six this season
which is the most of any side in the top flight over the first three gameweeks
Ivan Prelec's side won only one of their 11 away games during the entire regular season last term and have never beaten their upcoming opponents in the Superliga competition at this venue
Midtjylland will remain without the services of Paulinho, Gue-sung Cho and Marrony
all of whom are suffering from knee injuries and are only expected to return to first-team action later this month
With one eye on the trip to Hungary in midweek, Thomasberg may consider handing starting roles to Franculino and Adam Gabriel as he did in last weekend's victory over Aab
Vejle have just one injury absentee expected for this weekend's matchup in the form of defender Thomas Gundelund
who has not featured as yet this season but is expected to return to training in the next few weeks
German Onugkha netted a brace in the visitors' opening match of the season and should continue to lead the line, while Miiko Albornoz will be hoping to return to the starting 11 after missing out in the last match
FC Midtjylland possible starting lineup:Olafsson; Gabriel
Vejle possible starting lineup:Vekic; Van Bruggen
After a couple of underwhelming performances in the opening weeks of the season
Midtjylland are now in full flow and will be brimming with confidence after their midweek win over Ferencvaros
The Wolves have dominated this fixture in recent seasons and we feel they will secure all three points in this one

Brondby will play host to Vejle at the Brondby Stadion in matchday two of the Danish Superliga on Monday
with both teams seeking their first victory of the season
The hosts narrowly missed out on the title last year
finishing one point behind champions FC Midtjylland
while the visitors secured their survival with a third-place finish in the post-split relegation group
Brondby were unable to get near the trophy in the following two campaigns
finishing fourth in 2021-22 and fifth in 2022-23
The boys from Vestegnen finally mounted a challenge for the Superliga title last season
but they ultimately fell short as the Wolves came out on top
Jesper Sorensen
would have been hoping for a strong pre-season to build upon as they once again go in search of the league title
but Brondby managed just one win and suffered two losses in their four friendlies
The boys from Vestegnen failed to deliver once again in their Danish Superliga opener
managing only a dramatic 3-3 draw against Viborg FF
with goals coming in the 92nd minute to equalise
and then levelling the score in the 98th minute during a chaotic added time
Sorensen's men did produce a convincing win in their Europa Conference League second qualification round first leg against KF Llapi during midweek
securing a commanding 6-0 victory to take into the second leg
a result that should boost their confidence heading into their next matches
enter this game having secured their place in the top flight for a second consecutive season last year
climbing from a second-to-last finish in the regular season to third place in the relegation playoffs
A key factor in Vejle's post-split success was striker German Onugkha
who scored eight times in nine relegation playoff matches to end the season with 15 goals
and he has continued his strong form into the new term with two goals in the opening fixture last week
Despite his two goals, Ivan Prelec's side were unable to take any points away from that match against Randers FC
conceding in the 92nd minute to lose the game 3-2 after initially equalising in the 87th minute
Prelec will now be aiming to secure Vejle's first victory of the year against Brondby
but they have not won a competitive meeting between the two since 2009
although they did beat the hosts 2-0 in a friendly late last month
The hosts are set to remain without the services of four players for this game as Frederik Ibsen, Kevin Mensah, Marko Divkovic and Nicolai Vallys continue their stay on the sidelines
Following a resounding 6-0 victory over Llapi, Sørensen might opt to name the same starting eleven for this match, with all three forward players - Ohi Omoijuanfo, Filip Bundgaard and Yuito Suzuki - particularly likely to start after each scored in that game
As for the visitors, Marius Elvius is set to remain absent as he serves a suspension following a straight red card in the final fixture of the last campaign
Thomas Gundelund is also expected to be unavailable for this one as the midfielder continues his recovery from an injury he sustained at the end of the past season, leaving Luka Hujber likely to start in his place
Brondby possible starting lineup:Pentz; Klaiber
Vejle possible starting lineup:Vekic; Kolinger
While Brondby have faced difficulties in recent fixtures, a 6-0 win in their last outing should give them plenty of confidence coming into this one, and we expect the hosts to pick up their first three points of the 2024-25 campaign. For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here
Just three weeks after leaving the bustling metropolis of Singapore
June Wee-Grant and her husband signed on the dotted line and bought a house in Vejle
June decided to commit to her new city with her heart and soul
including taking part in an activity she never dreamt of trying but has become completely addicted to
The lights in the candlesticks are pastel-coloured
the sofas are creamy white and the lamps on the windowsills are from the Danish designer
You don't need to have stayed very long in June's home to feel her enthusiasm for the bright Scandinavian interior-design look
“We sold all our furniture when we moved from Singapore
who has by no means forgotten her Asian roots
Small Buddha figures and other knick-knacks let you know where she comes from
She also asks guests to take off their shoes before entering the living room
are citizens of the world with a capital W
while Andy is South African with roots in Scotland
where they lived when Andy was offered his dream job at LEGO
Was it ‘Wejle’ or ‘Vej-Lee’?!” she says with a loud laugh
June and Andy briefly considered moving to Billund to be close to Andy’s new workplace
but Vejle’s size and nature made their decision easy
Their first impressions of the city fortunately matched their wishes for a new adventure:
“We went for a walk in the area and suddenly we were standing in front of Vejle Windmill
it was like it was taken out of a history book with the old buildings
Everything was so ‘cute’,” she says emphatically
She then lays the little dog on the light oak table and buries her hands in his caramel-coloured fur
The joy they had for their new city quickly led to June and Andy’s next move
They scoured the real-estate websites in search of good houses for sale
they bought the very first house they looked at
white detached house in the neighbourhood near the city hospital
and it’s close to the forests where we take lots of walks and are always discovering new things
We both knew we needed a different pace in our lives
who still wonders at the absence of traffic noise
which was part of her everyday life in Singapore
When June packed her suitcase in Singapore
she thought about how she would become a Dane and a ‘Vejlenser’
She set herself a goal of embracing her new life and building her network by being open to new acquaintances
adding that she signed up for a yoga class and got chatting with one of the women
also introduced her to an activity that in June’s head sounded completely bizarre: winter bathing
June immersed herself in the cold waters of the fjord before retreating to the sauna that she’d booked along with the other winter bathers
And sitting in the sauna afterwards without clothes felt fine
‘Did you really sit naked in the sauna?’ They think I’m very brave,” June laughs
“And now I’ve become completely addicted to winter bathing
Five steps from June’s terrace door lies the extension with her furnished workspace
helping people with different challenges in life
June is also in the process of contacting other coaches in Vejle with whom she can create events and collaborate
It’s important for her to meet new people and form new connections
“I just want to put down roots here and meet more people
I’m so grateful for all the experiences we enjoy here in Vejle,” laughs June with a sparkle in her eyes
June also keeps in touch with her friends from Singapore and around the world online and opens her doors to anyone who decides to pay her a visit
June and Andy were visited by Andy’s parents from Scotland
There’s a little bit of everything.’ I can only agree with him
I usually say that Vejle is pure rehab for big city folk with all the space and lovely nature

Looking to pick up their first points of the 2024-25 campaign, lowly-ranked Vejle will host Nordsjaelland at Vejle Stadion for a Danish Superliga clash on Monday night
The Reds have failed to earn a result during their first two contests
whilst the Tigers have enjoyed an unbeaten start to their quest for top-flight supremacy
Following back-to-back wins over Brondby and Fredericia respectively at the conclusion of their pre-season schedule
Vejle have been unable to take that positive momentum from the friendly clashes into the competitive action
losing consecutive matches at the start of the Superliga term
After coming out on the wrong side of a five-goal thriller with Randers on the opening weekend, the Reds travelled to the aforementioned Brondby with points on the line last Monday, when goals from Mathias Kvistgaarden and Sebastian Sebulonsen secured maximum points for the hosts
Making the net ripple last time out, Greek winger Dimitrios Emmanouilidis has enjoyed a positive start to the Superliga term individually and will be looking to better his tally of nine goals across all competitions from the 2022-23 campaign
Heading into their first match of August, Vejle are currently occupying bottom spot in the Danish Superliga standings
with Monday's hosts the only side in the 12-team division yet to earn any points in 2024-25
The Reds' danger man this season is undoubtedly Russian striker German Onugkha
who managed 15 goals in 31 Superliga appearances during 2023-24
with Vejle's next top goalscorer only finding the net on three occasions in the league
After missing out on third place and subsequent qualification for the Conference League playoff by just a single point to Danish giants Copenhagen last season
Nordsjaelland are aiming to go one better this term and reach the continental stage by this time next year
The Tigers are one of five sides who are yet to taste defeat in the top flight, with Monday's visitors to Vejle collecting four points from their opening two fixtures, leaving them in fifth position
only two points behind early pacesetters Randers at the very summit of the standings
It was a battle of the brace-scoring attackers during Nordsjaelland's most recent fixture on July 27, when two from Conrad Harder were cancelled out by a double from Oliver Sorensen of Midtjylland to force both teams to settle for a share of the spoils
Following the departure of Johannes Hoff Thorup to Championship outfit Norwich City, the Tigers appointed Jens Fonsskov Olsen as their new head coach
with the 49-year-old now tasked with taking his troops towards the club's second-ever Superliga title
Vejle remain without the services of Thomas Gundelund
who picked up an injury at the end of May and has failed to feature so far this summer
As a result, Luka Hujber is set to start on the right flank for the Reds once again
despite a challenging start to the season as part of the hosts' XI
Picking up a knock whilst on international duty in June with Burkina Faso, Nordsjaelland's Adamo Nagalo is a doubt for Monday night's trip to Vejle
Despite goalscorer Harder stealing the headlines last time out, the likes of Marcus Ingvartsen and Oliver Antman are impressing massively and providing plenty of threat from the flanks
After a gruelling pre-season schedule, it appears as if youngster Lucas Hey has cemented himself as a first-choice centre-back alongside captain Kian Hansen
Nordsjaelland possible starting lineup:A Hansen; Ankersen
Vejle's tricky run of fixtures at the beginning of the new campaign continues on Monday night
when we feel that the Reds could slump to a third straight defeat
Nordsjaelland have commenced their quest for the Superliga title in prolific fashion and there is no reason why that trend cannot carry on at Vejle Stadion. For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here
Both aiming to become the early pacesetters at the front of the league standings, Vejle and Randers will lock horns for a match on the opening weekend of the Danish Superliga season
The Reds will be keen to put on an exceptional show for their passionate home support
whilst the Horses will strive to correct their troubles on the road from last term
After 22 matches of the 2023-24 Superliga campaign
Vejle were sitting second bottom of the league standings
four points behind 10th-placed Randers and looking set for a return to the second tier of Danish football
a major revival in the post-season split allowed the Reds to preserve their top-table spot for another 12 months at least
with Sunday's hosts eventually finishing ninth in the 12-team division
A major factor in Vejle's success during the latter stages of the term was 28-year-old striker German Onugkha
who made the net ripple on 15 occasions in the league last term to fire his men to safety
Taking charge of his third full campaign at the Reds, Ivan Prelec will be hoping to lead his troops towards the upper echelons of the Superliga and potentially within striking distance of the European spots
Due to their placement of seventh in the final standings of last term's Superliga
Randers were rewarded with the chance to qualify for the preliminary stages of the revamped Conference League
but the Horses were unable to book their spot on the continental stage
A daunting trip to the Danish capital to face Copenhagen stood between Sunday's visitors and UEFA competition, with a 2-1 defeat because of strikes from Orri Oskarsson and Mohamed Elyounoussi allowing Jacob Neestrup's side passage into the Conference League
Focusing on Superliga matches, Randers will be striving for Danish glory without the services of last season's Golden Boot winner at the club, with Mohammed Fuseini securing a summer switch to Belgian outfit Union SG
To say that the Horses have the upper hand of the recent meetings between the two sides is an understatement
with Randers looking to extend their unbeaten run against Vejle to 11 matches this weekend
After picking up a red card in the match versus Randers at the end of last season, Marius Elvius is unavailable for the campaign opener on Sunday
The Reds' options on the right flank are limited by the absence of Thomas Gundelund
who is recovering from an injury sustained in late May
Just four days after his move from French club Reims, Mohamed Toure could make his debut for Randers in the Superliga at Vejle on Sunday afternoon
The Horses have a new goalkeeper in their ranks ahead of the fresh term, with Australian Paul Izzo looking to challenge Oskar Snorre for the spot in between the sticks
Randers possible starting lineup:Izzo; Olsen
Following the disappointment of missing out on a Conference League spot
Randers should be raring to record a positive start to the Superliga campaign this time around
Vejle have a poor record against Sunday's visitors, and we expect that trend to continue as the 2024-25 commences this weekend. For data analysis of the most likely results, scorelines and more for this match please click here
2021 – New York City FC today announced that the Club has acquired left back Malte Amundsen from Danish club Vejle BK pending the receipt of a P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
The defender will occupy an international roster slot.
Amundsen said: “It’s a wonderful feeling for me and I’m very happy to sign with NYCFC
I know it is a big Club and MLS is a very good league
and I know NYCFC has been one of the winningest teams in the league over the past few seasons
Hopefully now we can go on and achieve something bigger than what’s been done so far.
I spoke with him and the way he wants to play fits my style
I can’t wait to meet the fans once we’re able to be with them
I know New York is the greatest city in the world and I look forward to experiencing all that it has
but I’ve come here to play football and win a trophy for this Club and our fans.”
The 23-year-old defender has appeared in over 100 professional matches since making his debut for HB Køge as a 17-year-old
He featured for Køge during a preseason friendly against NYCFC in 2016
His performances in Denmark caught the eye of Norwegian champions Rosenborg BK who signed him as a 19-year-old in 2018.
After making his debut for Rosenborg in the domestic cup
the Dane then joined German club Eintracht Braunschweig on loan before returning to his homeland with Vejle where he helped guide the side back to the Danish Superliga for the 2020-2021 season.
Amundsen played in Vejle’s first 14 matches this campaign
before completing his transfer to New York City.
said: “Malte is the type of left back we were looking for in this transfer window
He is a very good 1 v 1 defender and likes to get stuck into tackles
and he will give everything he has for all 90 minutes
Modern full backs must be able to attack and Malte likes to get forward and provide service into the box
We’re looking forward to getting him into preseason with us
I know he’ll fight every day to make this team and himself better.”
Amundsen represented Denmark across multiple youth international age groups including in the UEFA Euro U-19 Championship qualifiers
He also becomes the first Danish player to represent New York City FC.
said: “We’re pleased to have Malte join us ahead of the 2021 season
There was a need at left back and we prioritized getting competition in at that position
he has already played a lot of professional matches and is entering his peak with room to further develop here in New York
he brings a balanced set of defensive and attacking qualities that fit the style of football we want to play
he possesses great character and will be a welcomed addition to our locker room
We’ll continue to add to our roster as we approach the beginning of preseason and having Malte signed is an exciting first step.”
Everyone at the Club welcomes Malte to NYCFC.

by Olafur Eliasson and Studio Olafur Eliasson in Vejle
by Olafur Eliasson installed at the Fjordenhus
The ground floor of the Fjordenhus in Vejle
‘I was happy to reference the industrial history of silos and energy containers
but the circle also has this idea of the meeting space and the parliament – the circle being a shared space,’ says Olafur Eliasson of the design
‘Each of the three (Kirk) brothers have their own spheres and then there is a sphere in the middle that connects them.’
The Kirk family wanted a building that would celebrate the Vejle fjord
the seasons and the ephemeral quality of the water
They also wanted the building to play a leading part of the revitalisation of the Vejle docklands
The first job for Olafur Eliasson Studio was to design a masterplan for the dockland area
an artificial piece of land built 200 years ago for industry of the Jutlands
The team decided to take the Fjordenhus off the land and into the water
Building on the water in Denmark is nothing new to a country with 7000 km of coastline
yet the choice was also part of the celebration of the qualities of the water
The ground floor opens up a honeycomb of brick arches and voids
The geometry of the architecture balances an inner circle with an outer elipse to create a feeling of ‘tilting’ and ‘leaning’ offering a ‘constant negotiation’ between space and visitor
It provides multiple options and eliminates the neo-classical agenda of Panopticism says Eliasson
who explains that the experience goes beyond phenomenology
‘We need these non-prescriptive spaces. It’s not actually empty, it’s full of opportunity. We need to dare to claim it and say this is nobody’s space. If you go to Brazil
every street corner has a multiplicity of activities; the Italian piazzas used to be these meeting points for the community
kids going to school – I like this idea of a street parliament
Denmark being so unbelievably socially robust
there are no street parliaments – it’s a longer discussion
and one I don’t have the answer to.’
escapism and design stories from around the world direct to your inbox
the intriguing form of the Fjordenhus will no doubt draw architecturally curious Eliasson fans down into Vejle for a stroll
Thus the building also plays the role of a cultural lighthouse
you will see the detailing of the brick-work
the buildings’ most beautiful feature
Eliasson describes the brickwork as ‘expressionistic’ where ‘hidden murals’ swell and disappear into the walls
He wanted the brickwork to express how it was made by human hands
and he hopes that eventually a seed with find its way onto a ledge to soften the form with some nature
the team formed the colour scheme and patterns of the bricks
working with Peterson brick contractors for the work
Glazed green bricks are scattered close to the base of the building while higher up glossy blue-glazed bricks connect the building to the sky
The Fjordenhus was an opportunity for Eliasson to bring together the knowledge and experience of his studio – the processes of making
researching materials and collaborating with a trusted network of technicians and engineers
worked closely with Eliasson on the project and has been working with him since 2001
now holding the position of head of the department of design
Behmann jokes that this is Studio Olafur Eliasson’s first
as the pair have co-founded Studio Other Spaces
to take on further architectural commissions
Eliasson has the ability to approach architecture a unique way – perhaps favouring form over function
while an architect may prickle at the very sound of this approach
Eliasson makes some eloquent and necessary statements about the environment
public space and beauty with his Fjordenhus and he certainly knows how to harness an atmosphere

Travellers are flocking to Denmark in record numbers, but many don’t stray beyond Copenhagen to experience the Nordic country’s charming small towns. Consider Vejle – an unassuming former port city conveniently located about 30 minutes from Legoland in Billund and less than 2½ hours from the capital
Spend a few hours wandering Vejle’s streets and you’ll find that it’s a microcosm of what Denmark is best known for: innovative art and design
dazzling architecture and a varied culinary scene that includes everything from affordable food markets to fine dining
The train drops visitors in the middle of Vejle’s charming downtown
where you can wander the 900m-long pedestrian street lined with shops
the Romanesque and Gothic red-brick St Nicolai Church
built in the 13th century and restored several times since
Walk another five minutes to encounter another red-brick treasure
It faces the town’s main square and the bell announces the time as it did when it was in a medieval monastery on the site
Try this: Why Odense, Denmark, should be on your 2020 travel list
a woman from the 5th century who likely died in a religious sacrifice and whose naturally preserved body had previously been on display in St Nicolai Church
Some of the city’s best works of art in Vejle are found outside – they're almost everywhere you look. Quirky animal sculptures – such as a horse standing in the middle of a serpent-shaped fountain – are scattered downtown. And, for the past four years, the city has hosted a Floating Art exhibition in July
in which large-scale contemporary sculptures sit on the surface of the water
At the other end of town, you’ll find a lively patio behind a bright yellow 18th-century building that was once a merchant house and now houses No. 14 Vinbar, a tapas and wine bar. If the weather isn’t agreeable, delight in the cosy, exposed-brick interior, while savouring Iberico ham. A good casual option is Street Food Vejle
Head down to the harbour for the area’s sole waterfront dining option. Restaurant Remouladen delivers great views along with classic Danish dishes, including smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches) at lunch, and a fixed-price seasonal menu for dinner.

Neighbouring municipalities Vejle and Vejen in southeastern Jutland have exceeded the expected rainfall for a year within the first seven months
both town saw more rain than what Denmark’s meteorological institute DMI calls the “climate normal” for annual rainfall
or the expected amount based on average totals from the period 1991-2020
Nationally, this year has already included a record amount of rainfall in April, while both June and July have seen more rain than usual – as, for example, guests at the Roskilde Festival can attest
In February, central parts of Vejle were left flooded after two days of heavy rain rendered the fjord town’s drainage system unable to cope

“It’s very unusual for this to happen now with us being just over halfway through the year. To already have reached what is normal for a whole year,” DR’s meteorologist Anders Brandt said in a report by the broadcaster
“In all the time I’ve had a weather-related job
I’ve never known the climate normal to be exceeded by a single place by this point,” he said
Although June 2023 was dry compared to this year
2023 ended as the wettest year on record in Denmark – suggesting that record could be broken for a second successive year
“This year we’re kind of ahead of schedule
we might be on the way to a new annual record,” Brandt said
Vejle Municipality’s official in charge of high water management
told DR that persistent rain this year had been felt by the town
“Especially in February when we had these large quantities of rain and we also had flooding in the town centre
that’s when we felt it very clearly,” he said
the large quantities of water have meant there have been a lot of people contacting Vejle Municipality about water-related problems,” he said
Calculations used by the city in its rain management strategy have been exceeded by the amount of rain that has actually fallen
“The frequency of us hitting a point where we can’t cope with it is getting higher and higher
more will need to be done to save the city from water,” he said

The building is designed by Arkitema Architects as part of a Public-Private Partnership, where the PPP team designs, build and run the building. The idea of the hospital was to create a visionary mental health hospital with 91 beds, children’s ambulatory, psychiatric ER and ECT. The background for the project is a regional focus on outpatient treatment. Thus, the new hospital supports treatment of patients with intensive and complex behavioral conditions which require hospitalization.
Floor PlansA primary design focus has been on a visionary healthcare design which encourages physical activity and minimalizes forceful intervention. During the design process, the focus was to create the best possible surroundings for patients as well as employees. This is done by ensuring ample light throughout the building, easy access to nature and outdoor spaces, transparent wards with easy overviews, and a well thought layout.
© Niels NygaardIn the layout extroverted functions such as ER reception and children’s psychiatry are located as inviting units upon arrival, while wards are withdrawn within the building. The enclosed First-floor links administration and discreet patient transport in a ring structure which expresses a spatial division and forms a clear hierarchical façade.
© Niels NygaardGreen access and plenty of lightThe hospital is gently placed at the bottom of a forest covered hillside. The plan layout is made up of smaller square masonry building units that twist from another, which makes room for prolonging the surrounding nature into the spaces between the buildings. The building breaks down the scale, merge with the landscape and thereby match the surroundings.

Carpets. The kilim carpets, each with a diameter of 9.4 meters and placed in the centers of the drums, were handwoven in Varanasi, India. Looms were custom-built so the carpets could be woven seamlessly, and each carpet comes in a different monochrome color. The smaller, elliptical entrance rooms linking the stairwells to the main office spaces are fitted with hand-tufted carpets. All the carpets have been deliberately designed to be sound absorbent.

Wood was introduced as the dominant material for the additional built-in cabinets, bathrooms, kitchens, and staircases in private spaces.
Reda Haouam captained the Netherlands to victory at the Division B European Championships
"The other upside of us being this youthful created a really cool
and the bond translates to the court as well”
When he looked back at the journey to the 2019 wheelchair rugby European Championships
the Netherlands’ Reda Haouam recalled memorable emotions
“I was extremely proud and happy of what we had achieved,” Haouam said
referring to their golden victory at the 2018 Division B edition
“Witnessing our team develop from when we started in late 2015
I was impressed with how composed and controlled we played in the final (52-46 win against Switzerland)
The Netherlands will end an eight-year drought since its last appearance at a Division A European Championship on 7-11 August in Vejle
the Dutch side had competed in the bi-annual event every time since the inaugural tournament in Sweden back in 1995
The Netherlands finished with the bronze medal on that occasion
but have not been able to reach those heights since; they finished as the bottom-ranked side in both 2009 and 2011
They went unbeaten at the 2018 Division B Europeans in Lahti
National team captain Haouam admitted the tournament victory was the side’s biggest moment of the past decade
the semi-final win against Russia (56-52) was the one that really hit home for me emotionally - that moment we achieved our main goal of advancing to Division A
after overcoming some adversity early in the game,” he said
“I even teared up a little in the final seconds of the game.”
Haouam believes there is a number of reasons behind the major turnaround for the Netherlands
“I think it’s a combination of a shared vision of how we want to play and the fact that we have a young core of players that are very much in tune with each other,” he said
“We spend a good amount of time with each other
“This allows us to grow together and continually challenge each other to be better
“Of the 11 players that are currently on our roster
I’m the oldest member of the team - even our coach and staff are younger than me
so we have the ability to create good habits early
“The other upside of us being this youthful created a really cool
and the bond translates to the court as well.”
The Netherlands’ highest world ranking was No
10 after the 2006 World Championships and the goal for the team is to get back to that
we need to make sure that we prolong our stay in Division A with a top-six finish,” Haouam said
we all want to make a run at the Paralympic Games of 2020
whether through direct qualification or through the 2020 qualification tournament
so we’ll be gunning for a top-four finish.”
The Netherlands has a full schedule ahead with multiple practice tournaments and training camps in the coming months
They will also contest the Metro Cup in Poland from 1-7 July
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark
Toxic waste and fertilisers from the agriculture sector are suffocating fish and plants
making the country’s sea among the deadest in the world
have done the unprecedented: They’ve held a funeral for Vejle Fjord
a segment of Denmark's sea was laid to rest in a transparent glass coffin
inviting citizens and politicians to witness the crisis of the depth
Over a thousand 'relatives' gathered on Saturday in Vejle
with the event being live broadcasted by the two biggest national TV broadcasters to the entire nation
Over thousand relatives came to mourn the fjord (image credit: Michael Hedelain at Greenpeace)
A National Conversation Sparked by a Death Notice
The campaign ignited public debate two weeks before the event
starting with a death notice for Vejle Fjord on the front page of national paper Politiken and several local dailies
This bold move led to online debate and numerous media invitations and features
including national TV and radio appearances
allowing the team to amplify their message
“We hope the funeral can help forge an emotional connection to the dying sea in Denmark
It’s an elusive crisis because it happens beneath the surface
is that life can return if there is mobilised political will and action
So that’s ultimately what we hope to achieve by laying Vejle Fjord to rest in peace,” says the &Co
The campaign utilised various elements to resonate with the public
Alongside the specially designed glass coffin and death notice
an obituary by renowned Danish author Carsten Jensen appeared in newspapers
The death note was published in Politiken (translated to English)
and organized heartfelt speeches and hymns by relatives at the funeral
we saw a shift in the way the problem is talked about
That observation sparked the creative idea
Suddenly we could work with death as a phenomenon and use funeral rituals as campaign assets
That gave us a lot of creative possibilities and inspiration,” explains the &Co
A Timely Idea Aligning with Greenpeace’s Shift in Communication
the idea was perfectly timed and aligned with the organisations shift in communication: “We have worked a lot with the local sea crisis and its link to Denmark’s intensive agriculture
and were ideating on our next campaign and aimed to spotlight Denmark’s dead sea
&Co.’s idea to carry out a real funeral for Vejle Fjord came like a gift from heaven
To drive change and engage more people in the most pressing issues
The funeral for Vejle Fjord embodies all these elements,” says Christian Fromberg
the environmental organisation's campaign leader for agriculture
A Political Pledge to Fight for Vejle Fjord
The funeral campaign has garnered extensive attention across both Danish and international media
Martin vowed to bring a jar filled with water from Vejle Fjord into every political negotiation around environment and agriculture moving forward
