Silkeborg - VejleSilkeborg had the better of the opening stages of their game against Vejle
The home side often managed to find space to escape Vejle’s pressing game and took a deserved lead after nine minutes
when Callum McCowatt stole possession in midfield and delivered a finely-tuned through ball for leading goalscorer Tonni Adamsen who scored with a cool finish
and restored parity after 36 minutes when Anders Jacobsen delivered a perfect pass on a counter-attack for Dimitrios Emmanouilidis who provided a clinical finish past Silkeborg-keeper Nicolai Larsen
While the first half offered end-to-end action for the crowd in Silkeborg
the second half turned into a more tactical affair where both sides seemed more keen on preserving at least one point than going for the win
Silkeborg did manage to score just before the final whistle

Viborg did, however, have opportunities to pull ahead, when Isak Jensen barely missed the target after ten minutes and Renato Júnior wasted a glorious chance
when he came face with Lyngby-keeper Jonathan Aegidius
following a superb delivery from Thomas Jorgensen but couldn’t find the target
Viborg dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half where they continued the promising display that set up the big chance for Renato Júnior at the end of the first half
after Viborg-coach Jakob Poulsen replaced Isak Jensen
Srđan Kuzmić and Justin Lonwijk with Charly Nouck
Lyngby looked more dangerous towards the end of the game and 10 minutes from time Saevar Magnússon came closest to breaking the deadlock with a long-range effort but the match ended goalless

ABERDEEN – Viborg-Hurley boys basketball stayed resilient in the second half against a charging Dell Rapids St
The third-seeded Cougars kept their composure in the second half by holding the second-seeded Cardinals scoreless over the final three minutes of the game to claim a 56-49 victory in the Class B boys state semifinals on Friday at the Barnett Center
DRSM struggled to find rhythm offensively for most of the night
a stark contrast to their dominating quarterfinal victory
the Cardinals mounted a charge after trailng by double digits after halftime to pull within three points of the lead courtesy of a 7-0 third-quarter scoring run
Viborg-Hurley head coach Shane Warwick said facing adversity is something they’ve discussed all the time in preparation for this type of moment and the way the Cougars handled themselves in those final minutes was the difference of the game
That’s part of the game of basketball,” Warwick said
hit some free throws and be able to finish it off.”
Nick Hanson featured for the Cougars in the paint
leading the team with 20 points on 9-for-15 shooting with a team-high eight rebounds as well
Hanson had only nine points and two rebounds
Warwick said the ability to rely on somebody different every night has been Viborg-Hurley’s calling card and one that has aided them to the Class B championship
but throughout the season you're not relying on one or two players,” Warwick said
And we've been pretty successful when we've had that.”
Owen Niederbaumer scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds
Braydyn Morrison added nine points while Brady Schroedermeier only scored six
Trevon Beckman put in a highlight performance for the Cardinals

ABERDEEN – After taking a five-point lead into the locker room
Viborg-Hurley powered forward in the second half
A 15-4 third-quarter scoring run keyed the third-seeded Cougars' offense in the final 16 minutes of the game to claim a 72-44 victory over sixth-seeded Freeman in the quarterfinals of the Class B boys state tournament on Thursday at the Barnett Center
Following the Flyers' opening basket in the second half that brought the lead down to three points
Viborg-Hurley's lead steadily grew throughout most of the third quarter to 14 points
The Cougars later scored 12 consecutive points on another extended run to jump ahead 60-36 with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter
Viborg-Hurley head coach Shane Warwick said the big difference between the first half and the run in the second came down to defense and limiting the Flyers’ ability to find open shots
“They're a really good shooting basketball team and anytime that we did make a defensive mistake
[I told them] we can’t have defensive mistakes
We had a lot of guys that stepped up and made some shots
It kind of just went hand-in-hand and we kind of got on a role a little bit there.”
Freeman head coach Lance Friesen said the Flyers were in good shape at half
he said the Flyers weren’t able to meet the goals they set at halftime which made it nearly impossible to keep up with the Cougars
we had two goals: start boxing out and rebounding
We didn't do either of those in that run very well,” Friesen said
and we decided to keep handing them the ball and not get shot attempts
Viborg-Hurley also made it a priority to slow down Freeman’s leading scorer
who scored 11 of his team-leading 15 points in the first half on 4-for-6 shooting from the field
Following defensive adjustments at halftime
the Cougars held him to only four points and one made shot in the second half
“We tried to give some extra help in the first half
We missed a few of those assignments and he made you pay
we wanted to make sure that we had help there and ready and not have any defensive breakdowns when we were guarding him.”
Brady Schroedermeier paced the Cougars with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting
Owen Niederbaumer wasn't far behind with 20 points of his own on a perfect 7-of-7 from the field
The Cougars also forced 22 turnovers and scored 26 points off of those takeaways
Tate Sorensen had nine points and four rebounds and Luke Peters finished the game with five points and four rebounds
making its first appearance in the state tournament since 1999
will battle Aberdeen Christian in the consolation round at 1:45 p.m
Viborg-Hurley (22-2) advances to the Class B semifinals and will take on Dell Rapids St
The 24-year old Portuguese winger was brought down on the edge of the box after 39 minutes, but the 21-year old Isak Jensen
who has scored three goals on direct free-kicks this season
Jensen was in the center of action again just before half-time
when he was brought down on the edge of the box but had to settle for a free-kick
and Serginho's stinging drive went over the bar as the first 45 minutes ended goalless
Both sides had huge chances to break the deadlock straight after the interval. Two minutes after the break Amin Chiakha's close-range header at the back post was blocked at the last minute and then five minutes later Diant Ramaj pulled off a great save to deny Anosike Ementa, when he had the goal his mercy after a great individual action from Isak Jensen
Viborg - FC Copenhagen - Player ratingsFlashareBut after 58 minutes FC Copenhagen finally got on the scoreboeard, when Jordan Larsson played a clever one-two with Swedish compatriot Viktor Claesson and Larsson finished off the move with a clinical finish past Viborg-keeper Lucas Lund
0-1 would put Viborg in a poor situation before the return leg in Parken and consequently the home side threw more men forward in their attempt to restore parity. The home side also managed to create a few chances but the finishing wasn't up to par and FC Copenhagen held on for a relatively easy 1-0 win
The return leg will be played in the Parken stadium on 8 May
The winner will face either Brondby or Silkeborg in the final
The first semi-final between the two teams ended 3-3 in Copenhagen
ABERDEEN – After falling in the semifinals of last year’s state tournament
Castlewood was determined to make it all the way this year
defeating Viborg-Hurley 52-31 in the Class B boys state tournament title game on Saturday night in Aberdeen
Defense was the name of the game for Castlewood
the Warriors made it difficult for the Cougars to find any easy shots
While the Warriors finished with a 45% mark from the field
The 3-point defense was even better as Viborg-Hurley only hit 11% of its attempts
Castlewood head coach Paul Raasch said the heartbreak from last year fueled the run this season
citing how determined the Warriors were to avenge the semifinal defeat
We thought we were good enough to win it last year and we just didn't get it done and our guys learned from that,” Raasch said
“You could see the focus on their faces all year
great leadership and that's what it takes to do this.”
who finished the day with a team-high 13 points and 10 rebounds
said last year’s loss gave the Warriors so much motivation
they were determined to win the title this time around
We got it done this year and it feels amazing.”
the Cougars were still very much in the game in the second half
Castlewood only held a two-point lead with Viborg-Hurley threatening
The Warriors were struggling to score consistently after the Cougars switched to a zone defense in the second quarter
once the Warriors began to break through the zone
Castlewood ended the third quarter on a 13-3 scoring run to take a 12-point advantage into the fourth
And the momentum carried over as they went on another scoring run
this time putting six straight points on the board to take a 17-point advantage
Viborg-Hurley’s poor offensive night and inability to string stops together all but ended its postseason run dead in its tracks
Cougar head coach Shane Warwick said those scoring runs made it difficult enough to come back but mixed with a lack of offensive rhythm made it impossible
they had the three 3s late in the second half
they kind of pushed it out again and we started to shoot the ball,” Warwick said
“It just wasn’t a good night shooting the basketball
They played great tonight and they were the better team tonight.”
But besides avenging last year’s semifinal defeat
the Warriors had even more motivation to win this one
Raasch is one of the most accomplished high school coaches in state history
coaching for 39 combined seasons at Alpena
Langford Area and now his alma mater Castlewood
He’s only one of four high school coaches in state history to reach 600 wins
but there was always one glaring gap in his resume: a state title
he finally adds the elusive title to his trophy case
and it’s a gift his players wanted to give him dearly
“With him losing his dad last year or two years ago
it really kind of took a toll on him and we wanted to do this for him
That's something we just really wanted to do for him
Raasch said the title victory isn’t about him and that a win or loss wouldn’t have changed who he is
But the way his team handled themselves this season was what made him the most proud
it’s about our team and our team getting to this point,” Raasch said
“Getting them here is more special to me than anything
‘I'll wake up tomorrow and be the same guy
you go get what you want tonight.’ That’s what they did.”
Luke Baumberger finished with 12 and six rebounds
Brody Bass ended his night with 11 points and seven rebounds
Kamden Keszler added eight points and four rebounds while Jamison Keszler finished with seven points and five assists
Nicholas Hanson finished with a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds
Owen Niederbaumer had eight points and four rebounds
Brady Schroedermeier finished with seven points
The Cougars end their season with a 23-3 record while Castlewood ends its campaign with a 24-2 mark
MITCHELL — Coming to the Corn Palace against the top-ranked Class B team in state
Rapid City Christian knew it had to play aggressively
The Comets’ pace eventually led to total control of the court
3-ranked RC Christian pulled away in the second half
1 Viborg-Hurley 59-38 in a boys basketball meeting at the DWU Classic on Saturday
On the strength of outscoring the Cougars 31-14 in the second half
everyone in the Comets locker room was proud of the way the team battled back
“We faced a little bit of adversity right away not playing the best defense,” senior guard Simon Kieffer said
“I’m just super proud of us being able to fight back and keep building the lead and ending up getting the win tonight.”
The early adversity came in the form of Viborg-Hurley getting the basketball to Nick Hanson
who proceeded to score 16 of the Cougars’ 24 first-half points
posting an 8-of-11 shooting performance with three rebounds in the opening half of play
The goal for the Comets was to take away the rim and control the glass as the game progressed
while also getting Julius Frog involved from midrange
RC Christian battled back in the second quarter to take a four-point lead into halftime
with Frog scoring 11 points before the break by finding penetration against the Cougars’ zone
“He’s got a great midrange game,” Comets head coach Kyle Courtney said of Frog
who finished with a team-leading 17 points shooting 50% from the field
“When he gets going and hits a few of those shots
it opens some things up and we were able to find some shooters after they collapsed inside.”
Frog and Hanson traded baskets before Kieffer drained consecutive 3-pointers
Benson Kieffer’s triple past the halfway point of the third quarter pushed the lead past double digits
the Comets upped the margin to 20 points with four minutes remaining
Key to the surge was limiting Hanson to only four total points in the second half and forcing 16 total Viborg-Hurley turnovers
“Our hope was that our pace would eventually take its toll on their legs a little bit,” Courtney said
We got a group of veteran kids and I thought they executed our game plan really well and put pressure on without reaching and picking up a lot of cheap fouls.”
Simon Kieffer finished with 16 points on 4-of-7 3-point shooting with three rebounds and a steal
Lars Kieffers grabbed six rebounds to go with two points and Benson Kieffer finished with 10 points and a game-best eight assists
Hanson led all scorers with 20 points with six rebounds
Brady Schroedemeier tallied eight points with four rebounds and four assists
and Owen Niederbaumer chipped in seven points

3-ranked Viborg-Hurley upended top-ranked Castlewood 49-44 as part of the Hanson Classic at the Corn Palace
ending the Warriors’ seven-game winning streak and extending its own to 11 games
Knowing the type of team Castlewood presents each night
Viborg-Hurley head coach Shane Warwick said the victory was big for his team
“I have a lot of respect for Castlewood and for (head coach Paul) Raasch,” Warwick said
That’s a game that could have gone either way
We made some shots and we’re fortunate it went our way tonight.”
A slow start for both teams yielded to the Cougars pulling ahead by eight points at the end of the first quarter
Nick Hanson scored the first six points of the game and V-H’s Brayden Morrison hit a pair of three-point baskets in that span
The lead grew to 10 in the second quarter before Castlewood began to battle back into the game
answering with a 9-3 scoring run to cut it down to six points at halftime
both teams went cold from the field to start the third quarter
Bryon Laue picked up eight points in the quarter to keep the Warriors close
as V-H contended with Castlewood switching defenses on the floor
“(Castlewood) switching defenses was really tough,” forward Nick Hanson said
“We didn’t really know what to do because we had to talk if it was either man or zone
We started swinging the ball and reversing really got us those open lanes to score.”
The Cougars held serve in the fourth quarter
even as the Warriors came within one point following a Laue layup off an offensive rebound
Braydyn Morrison hits consecutive triples to extend the lead back out to seven
finishing with a team-leading 17 points off the bench and providing a boost to Viborg-Hurley on the floor
“He loves the big-time shot and he’s fearless,” Warwick said of Morrison
“He’s just playing better and better as the season’s going along
And he’s a reason why we are winning some games too.”
A 3-pointer and a layup off a fast break by Jamison Keszler brought Castlewood back within two with a bit over 30 seconds remaining
but clutch free throws from Morrison and Jake Austin and a turnover by the Warriors effectively sealed the win for the Cougars
as the Cougars shot 46.2% from the 3-point line for the game
and both Brady Schoedermeier and Owen Niederbaumer tallied seven points
Laue led all players with a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds
and Kamden Keszler had six points and three steals

The Flyers found themselves playing from behind quickly in Thursday’s night’s game against the Cougars
trailing 4-0 out of the gate and then looking up at an 11-2 deficit with just over two minutes gone in the contest
like they would do throughout the first half
A Tate Sorensen three-pointer from the perimeter made it 11-5 and then — after Viborg Hurley had built a 10-point lead on two offensive rebounds that made it 15-5 — a David Water three-pointer
and field goals inside from Sorensen and Luke Peters
Luke Miller was next to connect for the Flyers
draining a three-pointer early in the second quarter that made it 19-15
and the Flyers had it as 23-19 with less than 4 minutes to play in the first half before the Cougars went on an 10-3 run to make it 33-22 with less than a minute to go
But Freeman closed out the first half on a 6-0 run thanks to three-pointers from Peters and Walter to make it 33-28 at the break
and Flyers head coach Lance Friesen said he felt lucky to be that close
“Could we play worse?” he said of the reality in the locker room at the half
“Twelve turnovers — that’s more than our whole game average and we’re down five
But we hit some big shots down the stretch to keep it close and we were feeling fortunate at that point.”
Freeman drew as close as 33-30 early in the third on a shot in the paint from Sawyer Wipf
trailed 36-32 on a Kerrigan floater from 7 feet out and then 38-34 on a Sorensen drive and layup with 5 minutes left in the third
but that was all the life the Flyers could muster
Viborg-Hurley went on a 10-0 run in the next 90 seconds and a 15-2 run the rest of the period to open up a 53-36 lead
“I thought we were slow in decision making and they get some credit for their length,” said Friesen
who said he wishes he had called a timeout or two during Viborg-Hurley’s explosive third-quarter run
“They hit some shots — that always helps — and at halftime we had two goals: start boxing out and rebounding and take care of the ball
and we didn’t do either of those in that run very well
They got offensive rebounds and we started handing them the ball and not getting shot attempts
Viborg-Hurley nearly matched its 20-8 advantage in the third quarter with a 19-8 run in the fourth
meaning the Cougars outscored Freeman 39-16 in the second half on its way to a convincing revenge win; the Flyers had defeated Viborg-Hurley 57-53 in the season-opener back in December
“They’re a really good shooting basketball team and anytime that we did make a defensive mistake
they capitalized on it,” Viborg-Hurley head coach Shane Warwick told the Mitchell Republic
(I told them) we can’t have defensive mistakes
Junior Brady Schroedermeier poured in 21 points and senior Owen Niederbaumer scored 20 to lead the Cougars
who connected on eight three pointers in the game
Walter — a freshman who was playing with the flu
received an IV that afternoon and vomited at halftime — led the team with 15 points
The Cougars shot 27-for-57 from the field while the Flyers were 17-for42
including 0-for-8 from three-point range in the second half

ABERDEEN — The focused and talented Castlewood High School boys basketball team emphatically completed its mission Saturday night
Castlewood wrapped up a dominant run through the three-day tournament by capturing its first state title since 2001 and giving the Warriors' legendary coach Paul Raasch the first state championship of his illustrious 39-year coaching career
"I'm really happy for our kids and a little bit relieved
a 1982 Castlewood gradaute who returned home to coach his hometown team three seasons ago
"You could see how mature our guys were and how focused they were all tournament
1 most of the season before suffering a 49-44 loss to Viborg-Hurley in the Hanson Corn Palace Classic in late January
It was the team's only loss to a Class B foe all season (the other came to state Class A runner-up Hamlin)
The Warriors nearly suffered a devastating loss to another Class B team (perennial power De Smet) in the Region 2B semifinals
winning 47-45 in overtime after posting a 20-point win during the regular season
The Warriors weren't challenged again in the postseason
beating Ipswich 55-19 in a SoDak 16 state-qualifying game before posting 64-38
64-45 and 52-31 wins in the state tournament
"If somebody would have said were were going to be up 19-3
"Then it goes through your mind that they're going to make a run and we have to get those runs stopped
They did make their run a couple of times but our kids have been locked in on the goal all year and they weren't going to get denied tonight."
coached by 1983 Castlewood graduate Shane Warwick
should have known it was in trouble early when the Warriors' 6-foot
9-inch senior center Bryon Laue opened the scoring with a 3-pointer
answered with a field goal 14 seconds later — at the 5:40 mark on the first quarter
didn't come until more than eight minutes later and left Viborg-Hurley playing catchup
"We missed some easy layups right away and ended up 2-for-18 from the 3-point line
Castlewood showed throughout the season and definitely in the tournament that is a well-rounded squad
The Warriors' defense had a lot of do with Viborg-Hurley's struggles and the offense got contributions from all five starters
our defense was perfect," Castlewood senior guard Jamison Keszler said
we made the mistake of going zone a few times but we just stuck with man-to-man tonight
but also had trouble figuring out how to stop Castlewood
Laue and Keszler have been the two leaders all year and Laue did produce 13 points and 12 rebounds on Saturday
Viborg-Hurley did piece together an 11-0 run in the second quarter to cut Castlewood's lead to 19-14 and got even closer
The Warriors closed the period with a decisive 16-6 run that include seven points from junior Brody Bass
five from senior Luke Baumberger and three from sophomore Kamden Keszler
All three players drained 3-pointer during the surge
Baumberger finished with 12 points and six rebouds
Bass 11 and seven and Kamden Keszler eight and four
"Jamison and Bryon learned to run our offense really well," Bass said
we know our role and when it's time to step up
Hanson led Viborg-Hurley with 14 points and eight rebounds
Owen Niederbaumer added eight points and Brady Schoedermeier seven
Castlewood enjoyed an impressive run of success from 1996 through 2003
making eight trips to state that including state titles in 1999 and 2001
runner-up finishes in 2000 and 2003 and third-place finish in 2002
The Warriors returned to state in 2011 and 2012 before a this recent run of three-straight trips to state
They lost to De Smet in the semifinals last year and finished third
They took the final step this winter with the help of Baumberger

"It felt like family as soon as I got here and I've never looked back," Baumberger said
"Viborg-Hurley has a good team and they beat us early in the year but if we work hard
We knew that coming in and we just knew we had to work as hard as we could."
An added bonus for the championship is for Raasch
the hometown guy with a 621-261 record in 39 years as a boys basketball coach at Alpena
He is one of the winningest coaches in state history
He did coach Langford Area to a state football title in 2015 but the Lions twice finished as state runner-ups in boys basketball (2008 and 2015)
He not only got his first state basketball title on Saturday
but also joined a select group of coaches to lead teams to state football and boys basketball championships
I've been competitive my whole life and to be honest
"We've been here a couple of times and we didn't get it
That game still bothers me because that bunch of kids was the same as this one."

HURLEY, S.D. — It’s been two decades since Shane Warwick led a high school basketball program.
He hasn’t skipped a beat since coming back.
Warwick has guided the Viborg-Hurley boys basketball team to a 13-1 record in his first season at the helm. In addition, the Cougars also hold the Class B No. 1 ranking in the South Dakota Prep Media poll and jointly lead the seed points entering the final month of the regular season.
Inheriting a group that made its Class B state tournament return last year, Warwick jumped at the opportunity when the position opened up.
“They were looking for somebody,” Warwick said. “It was an opportunity that came up and it’s been fun up to this point. I’ve really enjoyed working with the group and being able to give back to the kids.”
While Warwick’s been away from high school basketball, he’s not out of practice. A native of Castlewood, Warwick was a two-time all-conference player at Northern State University and has over 15 years of coaching experience at both the prep and collegiate levels.
For 10 years, he’s led Warwick Workouts, a basketball camp based out in Sioux Falls, working with all age groups from the youth levels all the way up to professional basketball players all over the world. Coupled with leading AAU summer basketball programs, Warwick will coach at least 100 games each year.
He became the Cougars head coach back in June, with the players immediately taking notice of his vast knowledge of the game and his specialization in developing advanced offensive skills when fall camp commenced.
“It’s great having him as a coach,” senior forward Nick Hanson said about Warwick. “He’s a basketball genius. We have so many plays that almost every single one of them works. If one play doesn’t work, it will the next time we run it.”
Hanson, a Class B all-state first team player a year ago who’s averaged 20.3 points over his last three games, leads an experienced group that includes fellow senior Owen Niederbaumer and a trio of juniors in Nolan Kolthoff, Brady Schroedermeier and Jake Austin.
Braydyn Morrison has provided valuable minutes off the bench along with Brenner Gerdes and Rafe Goettertz. Opting to not look at the team as “starters” and “bench” players, Warwick points to the depth of the Cougars as the key for them each game.
“We feel we have eight guys that can all start and some have at different times,” Warwick said. “Those eight guys play every night and we need contributions from them every night. They’ve done a great job this season.”
With only five games remaining in the regular season, beginning with a contest against Freeman Academy/Marion on Friday, Feb. 7, Viborg-Hurley has worked to establish control of the game through winning the battles under the glass while being more protective of the basketball when on offense.
“We have a lot of room for growth,” Warwick said. “It’s hard to win big basketball games when you’re turning the basketball over. That’s something we have to clean up and that’s kind of been the fun part in watching this team progress and move forward.”
Viborg-Hurley sits atop the Region 4B standings in position to return to the state tournament. Wanting to rebound from a first-round loss to White River at the state tournament a year ago, Hanson knows the team to rise to the occasion will have the best chance to make noise in Aberdeen in March.
“My goal ever since I’ve made it to high school is winning it all and wanting the team to win it all,” Hanson said. “Whoever plays a better game and whoever steps up into that spot will likely do it.”
ALEXANDRIA, S.D. — After letting an early 12-point lead slip away after three quarters, Class B No. 3-ranked Viborg-Hurley held off an upset-minded Hanson boys basketball team 71-61 for its seventh-straight victory on Thursday night.
The Cougars jumped out to a 22-10 advantage at the end of the opening quarter. However, the Beavers stormed all the way back in the middle stages to take a 50-49 lead after the third. Viborg-Hurley didn’t miss in the fourth, taking advantage of trips to the foul line to close out the victory, going 11-of-13 from the free-throw line.
Brady Schroedermeier led Viborg-Hurley’s attack with 22 points and five rebounds. Nick Hanson scored 12 of his 21 points in the deciding quarter, adding on five assists. Jake Austin and Brayden Morrison reached the double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
For Hanson, Ben Wilber led all scorers with 31 points, adding four rebounds and a block. A.J. Wilber tallied 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block for the Beavers, and Sutton Dewald finished the game with 10 points, six rebounds and a team-leading three assists.
Viborg-Hurley (7-1) travels to face Alcester-Hudson on Tuesday, Jan. 14, in Alcester. Hanson (5-2) hosts Parker on Thursday, Jan. 16, in Alexandria.

Viborg - FC Copenhagen - Player ratingsFlashareBoth sides had huge chances to break the deadlock straight after the interval. Two minutes after the break Amin Chiakha's close-range header at the back post was blocked at the last minute and then five minutes later Diant Ramaj pulled off a great save to deny Anosike Ementa, when he had the goal his mercy after a great individual action from Isak Jensen
But after 58 minutes FC Copenhagen finally got on the scoreboeard, when Jordan Larsson played a clever one-two with Swedish compatriot Viktor Claesson and Larsson finished off the move with a clinical finish past Viborg-keeper Lucas Lund
0-1 would put Viborg in a poor situation before the return leg in Parken and consequently the home side threw more men forward in their attempt to restore parity. The home side also managed to create a few chances but the finishing wasn't up to par and FC Copenhagen held on for a relatively easy 1-0 win

After dominating the opening stages of the match, the visitors were rewarded after just over 20 minutes, when a delivery from Serginho sailed across the box to a completely free Thomas Jorgensen
