Archaeologists from the University of Alicante and the University of Murcia have made significant discoveries in the ancient Iberian city of Ilici The project titled “Damas y Héroes Tras la Ilici ibérica” (Ladies and Heroes: Following the Iberian Ilici) Professor of Prehistory at the University of Alicante Professor of Ancient History at the University of Murcia has uncovered architectural remains that shed light on the complexity and development of Iberian society around 500 BCE focuses on excavating and documenting the foundational city of Ilici Previous knowledge of Ilici’s significance was based on notable findings such as the renowned sculpture of the Lady of Elche the absence of architectural evidence limited understanding of the society’s development This recent discovery of architectural remains including city walls and eight attached rooms belonging to houses establishes Ilici as one of the principal cities in the Iberian region of Contestania This finding confirms La Alcudia’s status as the first metropolis and major Iberian city in Contestania spanning the present-day provinces of Alicante Professor Lorrio underscores the importance of these findings highlighting their greater significance compared to the discovery of individual sculptures The well-preserved state of the remains is attributed to the ancient inhabitants’ decision to abandon the area due to recurrent flooding inadvertently preserving the structures and revealing unique construction techniques such as the use of molded mud or adobe walls Future campaigns aim to expand excavations to gain a comprehensive understanding of the earlier Iberian phases presenting a unique challenge due to the site’s overlapping layers from different periods Professor Uroz said: “The enclave discovered in La Alcudia is the first metropolis the first major Iberian city of Contestania There is no older one of this magnitude.” The monumental scale and level of preservation of the findings reflect the power and sophistication of the Iberian elites of Contestania The discovery provides essential context for understanding the societal dynamics of the time The Vice-Rectorate for Research of the University of Alicante funded the project which was supported by the City Council of Elche and the Valencian Government University of Alicante and website in this browser for the next now sets the launch for 2025 This move aims to place Alcudia at the forefront of Mallorca’s eco-friendly transportation transformation despite Palma being named a pilot city for electric carriages by the Spanish Government back in 2022 The enthusiasm for the change is clear: eight out of Alcudia’s ten carriage drivers have already placed orders for their shiny new electric rides both electric and traditional horse-drawn carriages can share the streets during this transitional period Switching to electric does require a significant investment – at least €10,000 – but the potential benefits for both the environment and the town’s charm are undeniable Palma has been named a finalist for the Best Urban Destination category in the 2025 National Geographic Travel Awards Visitors can enjoy the committed Catholic attending mass every Sunday until her advanced age forced her to stop two victims of the devastating floods that tore through Valencia and Castilla-La Mancha the dirt-brown water was almost chest high The deluge smashed open the front door to the women’s home German Nicolas Mann upset a quality field at IRONMAN 70.3 Alcudia-Mallorca, as Great Britain’s Emma Pallant-Browne won her first IRONMAN Pro Series event in Spain In two tight races, Mann outlasted German compatriot Jan Stratmann to take the tape, whilst EPB was just strong enough to take down PTO World #7 Laura Philipp on the run Unfortunately, it was a tough day out for two of the pre-race favourites, as Norway’s Gustav Iden and Dutch star Youri Keulen were both forced to withdraw from the race midway through the bike it was Italian Mattia Ceccarelli who led the men in 21:57 with Germans Johannes Vogel and Jan Stratmann plus French talent Mathis Margirier within touching distance coming into T1 Keulen, out just behind Margirier, also made the front group, as Gustav Iden exited alongside fellow former IRONMAN World Champion Patrick Lange half a minute back from the main pack in 22:44 recent IRONMAN South Africa runner-up Mathias Petersen took the early initiative as the Dane led a group of 12 athletes up front with Lange missing the break and Iden reportedly suffering a mechanical as Keulen was also forced to withdraw early on it was then Danish athlete Kristian Hogenhaug who attempted to break up the group and opened up a gap of more than half a minute at one point before then being reeled in by a pack made up of Stratmann it was Margirier who had finally managed to make a break stick as the Frenchman entered T2 with a minute gap over the quartet of Stratmann all passed Margirier in the closing kilometres with the battle for the win coming down to the two Germans just weeks after hurling himself to second at IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia Stratmann didn’t quite have enough to take down Mann as the PTO World #395 took a brilliant first win of the season with Barnaby rounding out the podium and Margirier coming home in fourth as Hogenhaug rounded out the Top 5 following a strong performance across the board French athlete Julie Iemmolo was first out of the water Stephanie Clutterbuck and Bianca Bogen in a front pack of five Philipp and Pallant-Browne came out almost side-by-side as the pair entered transition +1:21 and +1:26 from the leading group the pair then made their way to the front of the race swiftly moving to the head of the race by the 15.5km mark started to open up a lead over the rest of the field Philipp managed to put a minute into EPB by the 60km mark and extended that gap by the time she reached transition holding an advantage of +2:21 at the start of the run and immediately settling in to a lightning quick pace EPB made up ground from the first kilometre with the gap to of just over a minute to Philipp by the end of the first 7km lap Drawing level with Philipp in the final lap of three Pallant-Browne pulled clear in the closing stages as she split a remarkable 1:17:00 to hold on to the win as Swede Sara Svensk rounded out the podium in third Follow the madness of the 'Race that eats its young' on RUN247 Spanish ferry operator Baleària added ‘the world’s second fast ferry with dual gas engines’ The incorporation of this catamaran allows Baleària to increase its high-speed seats on the Barcelona-Alcúdia-Ciutadella route by 50% and double the number of vehicles on the route while reducing its carbon footprint as natural gas reduces both C02 and nitrogen oxide emissions and completely eliminates sulphur and particulates Baleària has invested €126 million in this vessel which can carry 1,200 passengers and 425 vehicles The newbuilding was handed over to the Spanish shipping company by local shipbuilder Armón Shipyards on July 5 “More than 20 years ago we arrived in Barcelona with the aim of providing a high-speed connection between the city and Mallorca and Menorca with this innovative fast ferry we are increasing our competitiveness all year round and with much lower atmospheric emissions thanks to our commitment to cleaner fuels,” Adolfo Utor “This innovative fleet allows us to use the fuel that is currently available and reduces emissions while at the same time placing us in a leading position in terms of the goal of decarbonisation by 2050,” Utor remarked The shipping company calculates that the Margarita Salas will avoid the emission of almost 13,000 tonnes of CO2 each year 22% less than the fast ferry that has been operating on the route to date as the new ship has a larger passenger capacity the tonnes of carbon dioxide per passenger will be halved The new fast ferry will connect Barcelona with Alcúdia and Ciutadella on a daily basis all year round As for the ship’s technical characteristics which allow it to reach a cruising speed of 35 knots (10% more power than the first ship in the series) The ship is equipped with two liquefied natural gas tanks enabling it to sail 400 miles on gas and have a total range of 1,000 miles the Margarita Salas has a stabilization system to reduce movement and improve comfort as well as an elastically floating superstructure and high-tech insulation to minimize vibrations and noise It also has an onshore power supply (OPS) system to connect it to the shore-based electricity supply during its stays in port and measuring equipment to monitor real fuel consumption and calculate engine efficiency These sensors provide real-time information to enable efficient sailing and to adjust the speed and course to increase comfort according to the sea conditions the name of the vessel is a tribute to the biochemist Margarita Salas a benchmark in Spanish science in the field of molecular biology research Bureau Veritas and Marintek-Sintef) and national partners (Cotenaval Oliver Design and Jorge Belloch) were involved in the
