his experience after the DANA that has affected Algemesí
Several Valencian towns have been severely affected by the terrible DANA that occurred on October 29th
One of those municipalities hit by the flood has been Algemesí
his experience during this historic catastrophe
“Now we are much better than when I arrived
but the whole downtown area is still affected
I am very grateful as a citizen for all the help received
I had a lot of work to do at home because my garage
My whole sporting career was affected and my father's working career
Algemesí has been one of the most affected towns and it is true that many people have come from outside and without them it would not have been possible all the reconstruction that has been done this week”
“I found out everything while I was far away
My mother was alone at home and it was complicated to have to live it so far away and then the first impact of seeing everything was a big shock
in that way is very complicated to assimilate
it was quite late at night and on the way from the airport to my house by the river it was incredible and the entire runway of Silla cannot be described in words
it was all deserted and with wrecked cars”
it has not been easy because I still have one more race to finish the championship and I have to be professional
It is difficult to separate your heart between your job and your land
and I repeat that I am eternally grateful to all the people I have met”
“It was the right thing not to run in Valencia
Not even a minute of effort should have been spent in considering running or restructuring the entrance to the circuit
There are people who need much more help than in a Grand Prix
We must not forget that many people have passed away and many family members have lost their loved ones
It's a sign of respect and empathy for those people”.
Se recaudará mucho dinero y espero que vaya
Que se cercioren de que el destino sea ese”
“Dorna and MotoGP have done the right thing
A lot of money will be raised and I hope it will really go to the families affected
Let them make sure that's the destination.”

Anecoop has revealed turnover growth of 11.6 per cent for the 2023/24 season
The results were revealed at the cooperative’s AGM
which was held in Algemesí today (14 March)
Volumes sold climbed 13.7 per cent year-on-year
The combined turnover of all Anecoop Group companies also recorded its best-ever result
reaching €1.126bn – ”significant growth” of 12.5 per cent compared to the previous campaign
with a total sales volume exceeding 1.1mn tonnes
Anecoop said the result meant it had strengthened its position as ”the leading Spanish company in the marketing of fruits and vegetables”
increasing its national export share to 5.04 per cent
the average settlement price for its members increased by 1 per cent
despite a 3 per cent decrease in average sales prices during the campaign.
”This growth has been possible thanks to a series of management improvements we have implemented
including the reorganisation of the logistics department
and a reduction in expenses,” said Anecoop CEO Joan Mir
Anecoop noted that the greatest challenges of the campaign had been rising costs
reduced labour availability and a higher incidence of pests and diseases
which were ”increasingly difficult to combat”
there had been a decrease in fruit and vegetable consumption in Europe
customer supply policies with higher demands and a general trend toward fewer suppliers
It sold 265,155 tonnes of citrus in 2023/24
representing a 5.53 per cent increase compared to the previous campaign
The fruit segment had shown the strongest results
Persimmons performed well while melons and watermelon volumes recovered
while “significant growth” was recorded in stonefruit sales for the second consecutive year
The volume of berries increased by nearly 50 per cent
rising 5.52 per cent in volume and 4.33 per cent in revenue to 177,855 tonnes and €285mn respectively
Double-digit growth was recorded in the organic sector
while fresh-cut and processed products achieved a turnover of over €6mn
Anecoop said that, In the face of the fragmentation of the sector
it was promoting integration and cooperation as key to improving the scale of agri-food cooperatives to become more competitive and profitable
“We continue to be committed to integration and cooperation to face the challenges of a global and competitive economy,” said to Anecoop president Alejandro Monzón
”This challenge for the sector goes alongside adaptation to climate change
the transition to more sustainable agriculture
and the promotion of generational renewal.”

Coastal areas of Valencia on highest alert as new downpours on muddy ground forecast

Fresh storms in Spain have left streets deluged and forced schools to close, two weeks after the worst floods in the country’s modern history
which killed more than 220 people and destroyed thousands of homes
Around 3,000 residents in Spain’s Costa del Sol were forced to flee their homes when authorities issued a rare red alert for heavy rainfall in Malaga
which includes the tourist resort of Marbella
Train services were cancelled between Malaga and Madrid and between Barcelona and Valencia
Valencia’s regional government restricted the use of private vehicles until Thursday in areas hit by last month’s storm, when tsunami-like floods caused severe car pile-ups
Coastal areas of Valencia were placed under the highest alert on Wednesday evening following forecasts of up to 7in (180mm) of rain within five hours
Spain’s meteorological agency Aemet issued orange and red alerts for parts of Andalusia
warning that prolonged and intense rainfall could push rivers to dangerous levels
Catalonia in northeastern Spain was also placed under red alert
Schools were closed across high-risk areas as residents braced for what officials warned could be days of relentless rain and rising waters
said: “We have not evacuated entire towns but rather specific areas linked to the riverbank
This decision has been communicated to the government of Spain in order to receive collaboration from the state security forces and bodies.”
The “Dana” weather phenomenon is not expected to be as dramatic as the red alert on 29 October but has the potential to bring continuous rain that could quickly inundate vulnerable areas such as the eastern and southern Mediterranean
Instead of moving swiftly through a region
the Dana can stall and result in prolonged
The effect of the expected downpour on Wednesday could be severe due to the large amounts of mud already on the ground and the condition of the sewage system
advised flood relief volunteers to avoid any areas under orange alerts today
Following criticism of the government’s inadequate response to last month’s flooding
authorities could face intense scrutiny as they manage the latest round of severe weather
During a visit to Valencia in the immediate aftermath of the floods
and regional president Carlos Mazón faced public outrage in the town of Paiporta
where residents threw mud and hurled insults
frustrated by what they saw as insufficient state support
Growing anger over the government’s handling of the crisis sparked a massive protest on Saturday night, with 130,000 people taking to the streets in Valencia to demand Mr Mazón’s resignation.
At the opening of Cop29 in Baku on Monday, United Nations climate summit president Mukhtar Babayev pointed to the recent catastrophes in Valencia and other regions as proof that climate collapse is already unfolding.

The body of Dutch Silvana Lochi (53), who went missing during the first day of flooding in Spain, has been found, a friend confirmed on Facebook. “Sil,” as her friends called her, was found dead at the beach near Saler, another friend told the Telegraaf
had lived in the Spanish town of Turis for around 18 months
She was on her way home from work in Puçol during the heavy downpours on Tuesday
“Sweet Sil. You have been missing for almost 2 weeks and today we received the news that they have found you. The little bit of hope that was left is now also gone,” friend Ramona Wijnands wrote on Facebook
“For 34 years you have been my friend… What am I supposed to do without you
At least 222 people died when heavy rainfall turned into flooding in Spain two weeks ago. Dozens of people are still missing. The coastal region of Valencia was hit the hardest. The damage is expected to run into the tens of billions of euros, according to RTL Nieuws

Juan Roig has promoted various initiatives to mitigate its effects
One of the most notable is the "Alcem-se" program
through which he has allocated 35 million euros in direct aid to support 4,600 businesses affected by the catastrophe
channeled through Marina de Empresas—the entrepreneurship and innovation hub founded by Roig—has already been disbursed to the self-employed and business owners who requested support
With this latest contribution to the reconstruction of public spaces
Juan Roig reaffirms his commitment to the Valencian Community
consolidating his role as one of the major drivers of economic and social recovery after the DANA

More than 200 people died during the floods on Oct
30 – one of Spain’s worst natural catastrophes
Part of the insured losses will be covered by the state-owned Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros (CCS)
which manages the Spanish extraordinary risk insurance scheme
is mandatory for any basic insurance coverage offered by private insurance companies
but it is ultimately funded by a surcharge to the policy premiums paid by policyholders.”
The CCS meets its obligations via an equalisation reserve
CSS’ total net equalisation reserve totalled €10.3 billion
The CSS is also expected to recover part of the insured losses related to the agricultural sector through its participation in Seguro Agrario Combinado (SAC)
which mostly covers risks related to adverse climate and meteorological events on the agricultural and livestock sectors
but also acts as an excess-of-loss reinsurer for the other co-insurers
explaining that the SAC generally benefits from public support provided by either the central government
the CSS confirmed it will cover damage to properties and vehicles attributable to flood
Morningstar DBRS expects that the insured losses caused by the severe flooding will be mostly absorbed by the CCS
given the magnitude of the atmospheric events
DBRS said the consequences for the private insurance and reinsurance sector will be consistent
with large claims undermining the underwriting profitability of Spanish insurance companies
The flash flooding from heavy rains were mostly concentrated in the vicinity of Valencia
and the eastern part of the Andalusia region
numerous deaths and widespread damage to property and infrastructure
the equivalent of one year’s worth of rain fell in just eight hours
While it is still very early to provide a loss estimate
Morningstar expects that the economic losses (which include insured losses) of the weather event will reach several billion euros

Some military strategist used to say that in combat everyone has a good plan until the first shot rings out
and that seems to be what has happened to the government of the nation with this brutal catastrophe
in which many missing people are still being searched for and the number of victims continues to rise
No country is prepared for a tragedy of this magnitude
but it seems that the executive has not known how to take the bull by the horns and is operating on the basis of patches and outbursts
one of the most valued organizations in this country
the training and the available material have once again come up against politics
hesitations and partisan interests is multiplying the pain of those affected
we must be aware of the level of disinformation involved in these tragedies
either with interested hoaxes or political strategies to minimize the true impact of the situation
or maximize it through fake news to weaken the political opponent
so any information about this event should be viewed with critical thinking
The brutal Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA)
which has caused torrential rains and catastrophic floods unprecedented in Europe so far this century by any other cold drop
211 dead in the region (figure updated by the President of the Government
in his institutional declaration this Saturday morning
with still incalculable missing persons and enormous material damage and which has affected in a particularly tragic way localities such as Paiporta
The Military Emergency Unit (UME) is the main component of the Armed Forces destined to act in natural disasters
The request is channeled through the Ministry of the Interior
coordinates with the Ministry of Defense the activation of the UME
This procedure guarantees a rapid and effective response to emergencies requiring additional resources
have been incorporated to support reconstruction tasks and access to isolated areas
The Air Force has deployed NH90 helicopters for aerial rescue operations
1,200 UME soldiers were sent to the affected areas
to which 500 more soldiers (300 from the Army
100 from the Air Force and 100 from the Navy) began to be added this Friday
as reported yesterday by Margarita Robles (after brutal social pressures)
Pedro Sánchez himself has recognized this Saturday in his institutional statement that the response that is being given “is not enough ” in the face of the magnitude of the natural catastrophe
he welcomed the fact that the president of the Generalitat Valenciana
has decided to increase his request for military troops from 500 to 5,000
the Executive will immediately send these 5,000 new military troops (4,000 will arrive today and the other 1,000 on Sunday early in the morning)
as well as another 5,000 national police and civil guards
“doubling the number ” of agents transferred so far to the affected areas
he has ordered the deployment of an amphibious ship of the Navy
with operating rooms and a fleet of support vehicles that will arrive at the port of Valencia in the coming hours
“We are talking about the largest deployment of troops of the State security forces and bodies of the Armed Forces that has ever been made in our country in times of peace”
emphasized the President of the Government
But so far the lack of control is absolute
the 100 elements of the Navy in the area are Marines who were conducting maneuvers in Chinchilla and have been sent to the affected area with nothing
the Royal House has sent to Valencia 42 agents of the King’s Security Service in addition to the 100 troops sent last Thursday
And Margarita Robles also confirmed yesterday that there will be military personnel helping in each and every one of the affected towns
“the aid is taking time to reach many points and there
DANA: Why hasn’t the Government raised the emergency level to level 3
This is where much of the criticism of the government lies is that in the framework of Civil Protection in Spain
– Level 2 emergency is of “autonomous interest,” which means that the management of the emergency falls to the autonomous community
At this level it is considered that the disaster or event can be controlled with autonomous community resources
such as the Military Emergency Unit (UME) and other Armed Forces bodies
This level allows regional authorities to maintain direct control of the situation
avoiding centralization and possible complications derived from intergovernmental coordination
– Level 3 or “national interest” emergencies are declared when the magnitude of the disaster is such that the response capacity of the autonomous regions is exceeded and it is necessary for the central government to assume direct management
would take control of the operations and become the main command and coordination authority
This is precisely what should have happened with this DANA from day one
when the immensity of the tragedy became apparent
reminding us of the first months of the Covid pandemic
Moving from Level 2 to Level 3 implies the mobilization of resources at the state level and the possible additional deployment of the UME and other units of the Armed Forces; unified coordination under the central government
which allows for a broader and more structured response
especially in disasters of national or international impact; and the possibility of activating international assistance
either through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism or other international agreements
to cover resource needs that exceed national capacity
The implications for the government of upgrading to Level 3
Moving from a level 2 emergency to level 3 has several technical implications for the government
such as the centralization of the response
as management becomes the responsibility of the central government
which means that the regional authorities lose direct operational control
the elevation of an emergency to level 3 implies reorganizing resources and the command structure
which can generate greater bureaucratization in the response process; this centralization can also slow down decision making if adequate coordination is not implemented
Raising a disaster to level 3 can be a controversial decision
as it implies recognizing a situation of exceptional gravity that exceeds the regional response capacity
Governments may avoid this declaration in order to maintain the perception of control and avoid the image of excessive dependence on the central government
Nor can we forget that level 3 also opens the door to emergency funds
international aid and other resources that may imply greater budgetary commitments
it may require the government to provide explanations of the situation
which may involve public and media pressure
Although level 3 allows for a broader response
it also centralizes management and could lead to administrative and political tensions between the central and regional governments
authorities prefer to manage the emergency at level 2 whenever possible
maintaining coordination at the autonomous level to preserve management autonomy and reduce the additional bureaucracy associated with the national level
The seriousness of the situation in the Valencian Community does not seem to have been enough for the Government to decide to raise the emergency to the level of national interest and it is taking too long to use one of the most useful and decisive tools for these cases
For the Popular Party, according to an informative note collected this Saturday by Europa Press
the DANA is an “emergency of national interest ‘ and so should have been declared by the Government in ’the evening of Tuesday
assuming its share of responsibility in preventive actions and warning the population
has stated that she does not know if a national emergency should have been declared
while acknowledging that “everyone ” has been overwhelmed by the magnitude of the tragedy
And this Saturday Pedro Sánchez has ruled out taking the step of raising the national emergency to level 3
“It is not now a question of the General State Administration replacing the autonomous administration
Now we have to support the autonomous community
help it with resources and technical guidance
That is the only thing that should concern us now”
who has made a clear appeal to Mazón and has asked him that ‘if he needs more resources’ he should request them because ‘we only have to prioritize them’ and ‘we will provide them immediately’
Despite the technical explanations given by the executive for not increasing the emergency level
the feeling of the population is that they are trying to minimize the shock wave of the tragedy and that not all possible resources are being used
voluntary aid is not being coordinated by the same citizens and the private sector that have offered their support to the Valencian Community either in the form of human capital or in the means necessary to recover people who are trapped and whose survival may depend on the next few hours
and therefore it should already be raised to level 3
centralizing and deriving all the necessary resources of the nation to the affected areas

At least 51 people have died from the floods caused by a “catrastrophic” DANA in the province of Valencia on Tuesday
according to the provisional reports from the Integrated Operational Coordination Centre of the Ministry of the Interior
the president of the Generalitat Valenciana
but without confirming the exact number “out of respect for the families”
A tragic figure of loss of human life as a consequence of the major flooding caused by the destructive DANA that hit a large part of the eastern half of Spain on Tuesday with the most affected areas in the province of Valencia
the public company that manages the railway infrastructure
suspended all train travel in the community early in the evening
The forecasts of the meteorologists were fulfilled and the worst storm of recent years

they continue to appear,” the head of the regional government acknowledged to the media
adding that he could not give more details “out of respect for the families” so that they “can be adequately informed.” In any case
he wanted to send a “message of calm
patience and strength” to the population
“because where they have not been able to reach many areas still is because communications are absolutely impossible.” The emergency services are “prepared and ready” to act – he added – and
it is because “either there is a collapse in communications
or because the areas are still flooded.”
The Valencian Community was hit hard by the downpours
especially in the regions of Ribera Alta and Plana de Utiel-Requena
in neighbouring Turís it reached 299 and in Castelló de la Ribera it reached 266
according to data from the Valencian Meteorological Association (Avamet)

ADIF decided in the evening to suspend train travel in the Valencian Community until at least ten o’clock on Wednesday morning
when the weather conditions and the state of the tracks will be reassessed again to determine whether traffic can be resumed without safety problems
Almost all activity in the ports of the city and in Sagunto was paralysed due to the maritime storm
The strong storm also caused multiple failures in the telephone lines
which forced Telefónica technicians to make an extra effort to try to repair the network
there were local road closures in several municipalities including Chiva
where the 100 litres per square metre were exceeded
There was also considerable damage caused by a tornado in Benifaió
The Ministry of Defense reports that a total of 1,034 soldiers
members of the Military Emergency Unit (UME)
were activated in the middle of the afternoon on Tuesday to move to the Utiel-Requena region
where there were numerous people isolated and roads and paths flooded
According to an announcement from the corps just after midnight
its members were “carrying out rescue and evacuation work for people trapped by the floods in Requena

urged the population not to go out on the road
In the case of those people who are outside
he advised them to seek high ground if they are near ravines and riverbeds
“The night is going to be long,” he said
725 passengers remained at the station in the provincial capital
waiting for normal rail traffic to be restored
in addition to providing food and drink to passengers
it will establish an alternative plan to continue their journey
The Provincial Fire Service of the Provincial Council of Albacete (SEPEI)
assisted by a helicopter from the Civil Guard
began the search in the early hours of the afternoon for two missing people in the town of Letur (Albacete)
These are two employees of this Town Hall who were last seen on board a van
a vehicle that later appeared abandoned in a gully
For several hours they were regularly called by phone without success since the telephone communications in the town did not work throughout Tuesday
Another four people who had gone out to the mountains from the town were also being searched for at nightfall
the Red Cross set up a temporary shelter at the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción public school in Letur
as the heavy rains affected many homes and left them uninhabitable
60 people affected by the floods were taken there
Another 30 people were trapped in their homes and dozens had to take refuge in the town’s bars
Another town in the province of Albacete affected by this storm was Molinicos
where rainfall reached 120 litres per square metre
One of its access roads was cut off by a landslide
The storms that fell during the early hours of Tuesday caused significant damage in Andalusia
closing numerous roads and suspending classes in several schools in the province
In Alora (Málaga) a high-speed train travelling from the capital of the Costa del Sol to Madrid derailed
One of the axles of the front engine derailed as a result of a stream overflowing
The passengers were transferred to another train to continue their journey

a lightning strike caused a fire in a two-storey house
around 100 litres per square metre were recorded during the night
the worst part of the storm was borne by the residents of El Ejido

the storms and hail would have caused damage to crops and facilities in the western Almería region worth around 30 million euros and affected some 11,300 hectares
the Civil Guard had to rescue a couple who were travelling in a car with their children – aged 1
3 and 5 – when they were caught in the floodwaters on a dirt road in the Rambla del Lagarto
agents of the armed institute rescued the occupants of a vehicle with a trailer in the district of Tarifa
The storms also flooded large areas of the Murcia region
with road closures in the towns of Cehegin and Caravaca
where up to 121 litres per square metre were collected
The wind in Lorca reached gusts of around 50 kilometres per hour

The peloton tackled three ascents at Alto de Alcublas
Peñas de Dios and Romedio before an undulating 20km to the finish
An early breakaway of six riders emerged that included Francisco Muñoz (Polti VisitMalta)
Matteo Scalco (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè)
Filippo Ridolfo (Novo Nordisk) and Jose Juan Prieto (Petrolike)
The break initially pushed their lead to nearly seven minutes
but that was quickly slashed to under four minutes over the first ascent at Alto de Alcublas (4.7km at 5.4%) and toward the second climb at Peñas de Dios (3.7km at 6.3%)
As Bahrain Victorious and Lidl-Trek took the reigns at the front of the peloton
the gap continued to fall to under two minutes as they approached the final main ascent over El Remedio (7.9km at 6.5%)
The breakaway was caught on the lower slopes as UAE Team Emirates-XRD lit up the race on the steeper sections of the ascent
Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek) started the day in the leader's jersey
two seconds ahead of João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and five and 16 seconds
ahead of Bahrain Victorious teammates Santiago Buitrago and Pello Bilbao
Vacek was distanced on the climb and lost 50 seconds
slipping out of contention in the overall classification
Almeida and Buitrago battled over the top of Remedio for the bonus seconds
with the Portuguese rider securing the three bonus seconds and becoming the virtual leader on the road
The pair descended five seconds ahead of the reduced field that included other GC contenders like Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates-XRG)
Thymen Arensman and Carlos Rodríguez (Ineos Grenadiers)
Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda and Iván Romeo (Movistar) all inside 30 seconds of the overall lead
The group caught Almeida and Buitrago inside 16km to go
where Romeo was the first to launch an attack and pushed his lead to 15 seconds
was hunting for his first professional victory after winning a stage at the 2023 Tour de l'Avenir and the under-23 time trial world title last year
The solo move forced UAE Team Emirates-XRG
Ineos Grenadiers and Bahrain Victorious to lead the chase behind
but the wide-open roads catered to Romeo's time trial strengths
and he continued to push his lead to 23 seconds inside five kilometres from the line
Romeo hit the final 1.2km climb to the finish line with 27 seconds in hand
Arensman was the first to attack from the field but then settled back into the group
but there was not enough road left to catch Romeo
so he crossed the line 10 seconds ahead to secure his first professional victory with Movistar in Alpuente

Banco Sabadell has rolled out two mobile branches to provide services to various parts of the Valencian Community affected by DANA
so that families and businesses can carry out their usual banking business and can bring any queries they may have
customers can carry out the same banking operations that they would perform in a conventional branch
in addition to other frequent transactions
The closure of some bank branches affected by the storm and the difficulties
faced by citizens when travelling to other locations to visit their bank
prompted the initiative launched by Banco Sabadell
which supplements services already put in place since the tragedy occurred
such as the exclusive helpline for affected customers or the dedicated hotline for all things related to insurance
Banco Sabadell is also continuing to work towards reopening all affected branches as soon as possible
the Bank has positioned a mobile branch bus in the Sedaví district which
could be relocated to other nearby locations
This “branch-on-a-bus” has several customer service workstations inside and is equipped to carry out cash transactions
The Bank’s staff are able to serve several customers on board simultaneously
and can offer solutions tailored to the specific needs they may have at this time
Banco Sabadell has also rolled out another mobile branch
which serves the needs of customers in other towns and villages
this van is providing services in the Albal and Massanassa vicinities
although it may be relocated depending on local needs and vehicle mobility issues in the affected area
For the director of Banco Sabadell’s Eastern Territorial Division
the rollout of this mobile branch service in different locations of the Valencian Community “reinforces our Institution’s commitment to this region and to the people who have been affected by the DANA storm”
“At Banco Sabadell we are very mindful that people come first and
we are firm in our commitment to remain close at hand for families and businesses in the area
both with these initiatives and others that we intend to roll out”
Banco Sabadell also offers customers a fast and simple cash withdrawal service at post office branches
Banco Sabadell continues to study and monitor the situation in these territories in real time and continues to work on providing new services and tools that may help to alleviate the day-to-day situation of citizens affected by DANA
it has installed a temporary unit equipped with two ATMs in the Benetúser municipality
which will facilitate cash transactions for many citizens in the area
These ATMs will dispense cash to customers of the Bank and other users
the Bank has also set up another unit equipped with a cash dispenser in the Algemesí district and will provide a co-working space in this vicinity to offer in-person customer services for local citizens
Banco Sabadell has used the new Guarantee Lines of the Official Credit Institute (Instituto de Crédito Oficial
or ICO) to offer its customers who are individuals
businesses or retail outlets a line of credit with 0% interest during the first three months to help those affected by the DANA storm to return to normal as quickly as possible
After three months and for a period of up to five years
the interest rate that Banco Sabadell will apply to these loans will be 2.5% APR
Banco Sabadell set up a charity account to raise funds to help with the reconstruction of areas impacted by DANA
The Bank made an undertaking to double the amount donated by citizens
bringing the total amount already raised to more than six million euros
The account will remain open to continue receiving donations from citizens
as part of its support for the Valencian Community
the Bank has approved a 100 million euro extension of the line of credit available to the Valencian government (Generalitat Valenciana)
for the official funding and guarantee facilities of the Mutual Guarantee Society (MGS)
so that this institution can help those affected with what they need
