Dutchwoman comes from behind to outpower Persico and Kerbaol to uphill victory
leaving behind Cédrine Kerbaol (EF Education-Oatly) on the steep slopes of the Port d'Andratx
The Dutchwoman came from behind on the final climb of the 107.5km race after Kerbaol launched her bid for victory 1.5km out
De Jong came across 700 metres later before leaving the Frenchwoman behind with 400 to go
leaving the 31-year-old to celebrate the 11th win of her career
Kerbaol faded to third place the run to the line
with Silvia Persico (UAE Team ADQ) nipping past late on to score second place
Katrine Aalerud (Uno-X Mobility) secured fourth place at 21 seconds after her team had done much of the pacemaking on the lead-in to the climb
Mavi García (Spain) landed fifth place
García had been the biggest victim as crosswinds split the peloton apart
She was in form having finished second in the Trofeo Palma on Sunday and was forced to chase back on
with top names including Trofeo Palma winner Marlen Reusser (Movistar) as well as the podium trio all making the cut
and García wouldn't stay out the rear
The regrouping came in time for the major obstacles of the day in the shape of the late hills
including the Coll de sa Gramola and the closing climb in Andratx
with only around 25 at the front of the race
Claire Steels (Movistar) led the way over the top following attacks on the climb by Lily Williams (Human Powered Health) and Eleonora Gasparrini (UAE Team ADQ)
and García tried to jump on the way down the descent
Kerbaol and Persico briefly went clear before they were brought back
at which point Uno-X Mobility took over the pacemaking on the road into the final climb
Reusser and several Movistar teammates were working to chase back on
but they wouldn't make it in time for the climb
leaving the front group to contest the win
it was Uno-X Mobility who set up the action
the group thinned out as the best climbers emerged
It was De Jong who proved the strongest of the chase
She joined Kerbaol 800 metres from the line and immediately took to the front to set the pace
and so it was De Jong who powered clear to score the victory
Kerbaol was metres away from hanging on to second place before a resurgent Persico sped past at the death to come through for second place
nipping the Frenchwoman by a solitary second at the line

2024ShareThis Luxe Mediterranean Resort Sets a New Standard for All-Inclusive BlissThis 5-star resort in Mallorca sets a new standard for all-inclusive travel
Read our editor's full Zafiro Palace Andratx review here
Making a purchase through our links may earn Well+Good a commission
I’ll be frank: I don’t love an all-inclusive resort
the sunburned guests fighting over loungers
the unlimited piña coladas that taste great on day one
but then churn your stomach by day five… to me
the all-inclusive resort is great and affordable in theory
So when I was invited to check out Zafiro Palace Andratx in Mallorca
which touted “all-inclusive redefined,” I was skeptical
But from the moment my best friend and I arrived in the Balearic Islands
It was less of a hotel and more of a self-contained island escape
carefully designed to make you feel like you’re experiencing a slice of Mallorca’s essence
“all-inclusive” felt like a promise to pamper and surprise
or a lazy day on a llaüt (a traditional Balearic fishing boat)
This wasn’t about the usual vacation checklist; it was about a kind of immersive
well-rounded experience I hadn’t anticipated
although it does carry a slightly heftier price tag starting at $539 per night
Resort rates:Suites start at $245/night
while the all-inclusive package starts at $539/night
Book directly at Zafiro Resorts or on Booking.com.
I had been invited on a press trip on behalf of the brand
Just as long as we could get ourselves to the resort
my guest and I would be treated to a three-night stay in the Zafiro Club (a major perk of my job
since we were already going to be in Europe for a wedding
and the resort was just about to close for the season
(It’s open annually from mid-April through October
Between adventuring around the island on scooters
relaxing in one of the six (!) ritzy pools
and ordering what felt like a zillion scrumptious desserts
find my favorite experiences from my stay—complete with very Insta-worthy photos
If you’ve ever wanted to live out your Lizzie Maguire fantasies of driving around Europe on a Vespa (minus the handsome Italian man)
Zafiro’s baby-blue electric Vespas can help turn that into reality
my friend and I grabbed our Vespas and made the 30-ish minute ride from the resort to Port Andratx
a charming little harbor village on the western coast of the island
Dotted with fishing boats alongside sleek yachts
the port town has a laid-back yet elegant vibe
We spent the afternoon strolling by the waterfront
before zipping up some hilly streets for better views of the port
where we sat on the rocks and took in the views of the jade-green palms swaying above the azure waves
before taking our Vespas back to the resort
I will forever remember giggling on them while dodging SUVs and racing around narrow roads leading to hidden beach spots
There’s just something about riding a Vespa that makes you feel like you’re in a real-life movie montage
Photo: AuthorSailing on a traditional llaütAs two very passionate water signs
it’s no surprise that my friend and I agreed that our favorite part of the trip was
sailing on Zafiro Palace Andratx’s sailboat
we set off on an electric llaüt—an updated
sustainable take on Mallorca’s traditional wooden fishing boats
Gliding through the water without the typical engine fumes or motor noise was an unexpected luxury
transforming the usual hustle of a boat ride into a relaxed
The captain sailed us out from Port Adriano (about a 30-minute taxi ride from the resort) along Mallorca’s rugged western coastline
past secluded coves and dramatic cliffs while we laid on the bow
we could chat and enjoy the lapping of waves against the hull
an experience worlds apart from the flashier yachts that populate the Mediterranean
another serene cove (so many beautiful coves!)
I spend a lot of time on the sea in my personal life
but this was the most brilliant cerulean water I’ve ever swam in
I would have taken one of the captain’s paddleboards out for a spin (he also had snorkels and electric underwater scooters available)
I was thrilled to float on my back and experience Mallorca’s maritime soul
a chance to see the coastline as it’s meant to be experienced: slowly
Photo: AuthorUnwinding in The Gem spaAs much as I love adventure on vacation
Tucked away on the second floor of the resort’s main building
The Gem is a quiet haven away from the rest of the resort where you can unwind in the sauna
or heated indoor pool with wall-to-wall views over the surrounding mountains and sea
There’s also a full menu of treatments including facials, manicures, pedicures, and massages, all elevated with luxurious Germaine de Capuccini products
complete with some breathwork and aromatherapy
which left me and my muscles completely relaxed
it was nice to have some time to do… nothing
the spa isn’t the only place you can get some R&R
There are a whopping six outdoor pools across the resort’s property
so we had plenty of opportunities to lounge and chill
the resort’s adults-only rooftop pool with sweeping views of the nearby beach
If you want a secluded pool away from screaming children like I did
we had a private jacuzzi tub on our deck that was a lovely respite at the end of each night
I’d grab my book and pour myself a nightcap before going to bed
which was enough on its own to make me never want to leave
Photo: Zafiro ResortsSavoring gourmet gastronomyThe food and drink are where Zafiro Palace Andratx truly won me over
I’ve honestly always thought all-inclusive food is mediocre; typically
the breakfasts and lunches are a combination of buffet-style lunchmeats and cheeses that have been left to sweat in the sun all day
dinners are typically held at one of the few restaurants on-site
the culinary offerings defied my every expectation
We started each day with the sprawling Mediterranean breakfast buffet
cut fruit) and local dishes (Iberian meats and cheeses
guests have the option of another delicious buffet or sitting down to a meal at La Veranda
crispy pinsas (a lighter alternative to pizza)
Two dishes I’m still dreaming about are the roasted aubergine with figs and ricotta and the creamy mushroom risotto which we ate on day two after nearly beefing it on our scooters—so good
we were able to sit down for dinner at each of the three on-site restaurants
which only got better as the weekend went on
The first night we went to Tastes & Sushi
My friend and I were still buzzing from our long travel day
so we spent most of our time yapping over a bottle of wine and picking at some shared sushi rolls before diving into three incredible desserts (over-ordering quickly became a theme throughout the trip)
Photo: AuthorIt’s worth noting that this was the most reasonably priced of all four restaurants—entrees were in the $20-$24 price range here
and between a bottle of wine (there’s a selection of all-inclusive bottles included on every menu) and three desserts
we got our money’s worth with the all-inclusive option
It definitely paid off at the other restaurants
where entrees were closer to $30-$40 per person
the all-inclusive package really is worth the splurge; not only did we have access to all five restaurants
where we satiated our inner carnivores with an Iberian charcuterie and juicy sirloin steaks paired with a somm-recommended rioja
We also watched someone order the sizzling
$59 Tomahawk steak which was impressive (my gut could never) and made us hungrier
so we ended up ordering a round of patatas bravas to share (which my gut definitely could)
we enjoyed fresh Mediterranean food at Mare Nostrum
but I can safely say I left my meal understanding what it means to appreciate gastronomy
We started by ordering three appetizers (all-inclusive
baby!) to start: scallops with coral rock and seaweed
this is *not* your normal all-inclusive restaurant
we moved on to our main courses; lobster with citrus and black rice for me
charbroiled octopus with sweet potato puree for my friend
The flavor and freshness of both courses were astounding and perfectly portioned so that we could enjoy dessert
My friend and I swooned over the tart creaminess of raspberry créme anglaise and rich brioché French toast with salted caramel ice cream and crème brûleé crumbles
But the showstopper was La Sobremesa—a fudgy chocolate cigar filled with a smoky mousse
It’s served on a glass ashtray with a side of gray sugar ash for dipping and tastes like you’re actually smoking a cigar (in the best way possible)
“Is this what it means to have a gastronomical experience?” my friend asked in between bites of that chocolatey
Photo: AuthorA few notesOur stay in Mallorca was pretty much perfect
The first is that Mallorca is not the easiest or cheapest place to get to from the United States
Most major airports along the East Coast require you to fly to Madrid or Barcelona first before connecting to Palma
But if you’re flying from the middle of the country or the West Coast
*expensive* travel day with lots of layovers
Pro tip: I recommend tacking on a few days in a major connecting city to make it worth your while
about 40 minutes) and spent three days exploring the city before flying to Newark
I plan on doing something similar to make it worth my while (and to break up travel days!)
The second is that the Mediterranea is chillier than I thought it would be in October
and although I love traveling during the shoulder season to avoid crowds
I would recommend sneaking in a trip in September to maximize weather
We were surprised at just how breezy it was—so windy that we had to reschedule our original sail on the llaüt from Friday to Saturday
it was hard to stay in the water comfortably for long periods of time
but if I ever get back to the Balearic islands (which I’m determined to do
I think mid-September would be the perfect time to go
Zafiro Palace Andratx has all the creature comforts you’d expect from a luxury getaway; it’s studded with crystalline pools
But it’s the care taken in crafting personal touches—a glass of sparkling cava offered before every dinner
the traditional senalla basket in your room to tote around your beach towels
fresh flowers on your coffee table—make it a place to savor

Several residents in Andratx were evacuated from their homes during the night as the forest fire spread

'Race cancelled and suspended due to weather conditions and crashes in the first few kilometres' say participating teams on social media
The penultimate Challenge Mallorca one-day race
Trofeo Andratx-Pollença was stopped by the riders and then cancelled after just 25km of racing due to dangerous conditions caused by strong gusts of wind combined with heavy rain that quickly made the road surface slippery on Saturday
Rain in and around the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range that plays host to the mountainous days throughout the series of five one-day races meant the roads were slippery and caused several riders to come down in the first hour of racing
with the key climb of the Coll de Puig Major (14.2 km at 6%) set to be the highlight
that "the conditions were no longer right to allow the peloton to progress safely."
The Illes Balears-Arabay team also confirmed that the event was "cancelled and suspended due to weather conditions and crashes in the first few kilometres."
Burgos Burpellet BH confirmed on their social media channels that the event was suspended "due to the numerous falls that occurred in the first kilometres."
When riders ultimately stopped racing at 125km to go
there was a breakaway of three riders that included Daniel Cavia (Burgos BH)
Amund Grøndahl Jansen (Uno-X Mobility) and Manuele Tarozzi (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè)
After the riders made the decision to stop racing
the breakaway was moving forward but due to the conditions of the terrain
The last day of the Challenge Mallorca is due to come on Sunday at the 149.9km Trofeo Palma
Race organisers of the Challenge Mallorca's Trofeo Andratx-Pollença explained in an official statement after the race that they respected but did not share the riders' decision to halt the racing after the dangers that had arisen due to the bad weather
"The peloton of cyclists has decided to stop the race at the 23rd kilometre of the Andratx-Mirador del Colomer Trophy (Pollensa)
The riders' representatives informed the president of the technical jury of their decision to stop the race," read the official statement from the organisation
"The organisation has had no room for negotiation to find a possible alternative to the cyclists' firm decision
The organisers and the UCI College of Commissaires of the race respect the riders' decision and regret the damage caused
The organisation does not share the riders' decision."
The organisers said that they recognised that the safety of the peloton was their priority and that they had warned riders and teams to use caution in the opening kilometres of the race
"The organisation is aware that safety takes precedence over any other cause
before the race and during the first kilometres
the team leaders were informed of the danger and caution was requested on the initial sections of the route," they wrote in the statement
"The organisation regrets the injuries suffered by some of the cyclists who have been involved in a fall and wishes a speedy recovery to all of them."

Five people were rescued from a sinking yacht on the morning of August 10
However, before the emergency services could get there, a private boat was able to pick up the five people onboard, including a German couple and their son. The group was sent back to Port Adriano safely.
Neither the local authorities nor the Best Brands yacht released a statement about the cause of the sinking and reported no contamination from the yacht. Gradually flooded, the yacht eventually sank to the bottom of the sea by 5pm.

Andratx and Calvià can once again enjoy a direct connection thanks to TIB’s route 131
improves travel for local residents by cutting down journey times and offering a more comfortable ride – no need to go into Palma just to change buses
all four airport bus lines are now running as normal and will continue throughout the year with no interruptions
are free to use this year when travelling with the Intermodal Card
Route 131 started operating on 1 April and will run until 31 October
with six services in each direction per day
The first bus leaves Santa Ponça at 9.20am and the last departs from La Granja at 8.00pm
is a great place to start or finish the popular Camí des Correu hike – many people take the bus one way and walk the other
Thanks to the network of connecting routes
it’s now possible to travel the whole length of the Serra de Tramuntana by public transport
The lines include 231 (Port de Pollença – Sóller)
202 (S’Esgleieta–Canet – Estellencs) and 131 (Estellencs – Andratx)
The Aerotib airport bus service connects various towns and villages to the airport. The Ponent area is covered by line A11, which runs from Camp de Mar, Peguera, Santa Ponça, Magaluf, Palmanova, Son Caliu, Costa d’en Blanes, Portals Nous and Bendinat to the airport.
Sa Pobla and Inca to Son Sant Joan airport
line A42 connects the Llevant coast – Cala Bona
S’Illot and Porto Cristo – as well as Manacor
Line A51 runs between Campos and Llucmajor and the airport
From 2 May, residents and visitors in the Es Mal Pas area will benefit from a new regular bus service linking them with Alcúdia town and Alcanada. This is part of a broader improvement to the TIB network that began in early April with the introduction of the summer timetable and the return of seven seasonal routes – including those to Cala Mesquida and Cala Mendia
which last year ran between Alcúdia and Alcanada via the port
will now extend its route to reach Es Mal Pas
This means that people in the area will have an hourly bus service starting at 8.00am from Alcanada
with the last departure from Es Mal Pas at 9.30pm
The route will be in operation until the end of October and will include three stops in Alcanada
running between Cala Mesquida and Cala Rajada
line 427 between Cala Mendia and Porto Cristo will run 19 services a day this year
and the stop at Cala Romàntica has been relocated
You’ll find full route maps and timetables at www.tib.org
This all-suite five-star hotel is an ideal choice for families
Surrounded by the Serra de Tramuntana mountains
and looking straight out to the haze of the Mediterranean
the Zafiro Palace Andratx is the newest property from the Zafiro Hotels group on Mallorca and Menorca
this contemporary hotel in Mallorca with its wooden decking
sand-coloured exterior is secluded enough to offer complete privacy and peace
but close enough to the harbour for guests looking to leave the gates and explore every day
All 304 suites have private pools completely free from prying eyes
featured two en-suite bedrooms with a large living and dining area
The children’s room was already fitted with bed rails
and Yzzy the koala bear waiting on the pillows
Bathrooms stocked full-size bottles of products
along with separate bath and beach towels – negating the need to faff with collecting and returning towels by the pool

The suite’s two minibars are restocked every morning with one containing non-alcoholic drinks: four varieties of juice
and an alcoholic one with three types of lager and five different tonics
guests can make use of the living room’s giant TV that rotates 360 degrees
and crack open any of the full-size bottles of Japanese Suntory whisky
Sunsets in this part of the world leave crimson rumples in the clouds
which are best experienced on the wraparound terrace – either in the hydromassage bath or plunge pool
those who want to relax in peace can have 90-minute massages at the spa
while families can choose from one of six other swimming pools including a specially heated one where the poolside van serves Mr Whippy-style ice cream and cocktails
Children aged five and older can be dropped off at Mini Club
while younger children are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian to paint
Currently there is no evening babysitting service
but the hotel management is looking into options
but the Market restaurant at Zafiro Palace Andratx hits all the right notes: there’s the safe option of nuggets
goujons and chips for children along with a chef cooking fresh pasta
the main grill is always hissing with giant red prawns
slivers of beef and slabs of meaty swordfish cooked to order
parents can run a trial and error system to satisfy young palates without compromising on their own preferences
There are numerous vegan and vegetarian options
ten different olive oils and every fruit from strips of mango and dragonfruit to slabs of pineapple and melon
La Veranda Italian restaurant overlooks the pool and is less frequented by children
making it a preferable option for couples wanting a quiet meal of seafood risotto
fried calamari and rosé cava – which is topped up before you can blink
Other choices that require reservations include El Olivo for tapas and seafood
Tastes & Sushi for Peruvian and Japanese
and Caliu Steakhouse for grilled sirloin with pungent chimichurri – not to mention some of the best garlic prawns in hot
Golfers can take a two-minute walk next door to the Golf de Andratx championship course, apparently a favourite of Michael Douglas and Claudia Schiffer. Home to the longest hole in Spain – the 609m “Green Monster” par-five hole six – it’s a beautiful course shaded by forest
Non-sporty sunseekers can continue on for another couple of minutes down the hill to the resort village of Camp de Mar
Here you can find a strip of supermarkets and pizza parlours by a quiet curved beach surrounded by pine trees
and water clear and shallow enough for toddlers to safely splash in
a working fishing village with seafood restaurants and cocktail bars
On Wednesdays wander through the market and breathe in the smell of leather handbags
before stopping off at No.11 for a sharp mint julep and crisp Andalusian squid with lemon mayo

Planners order demolition of pool and building at home of Captain Tom's daughter
A British couple are facing the demolition of their £1.3million Spanish home before Christmas, with authorities offering no compensation despite their 16-year ownership of the property.
Lee and Georgie Pendleton's apartment in Majorca's Port d'Andratx will be reduced to rubble alongside 11 other properties after being deemed illegal by the Spanish government.
The demolition order, which was initially issued in 2013, is finally being executed "after years of threats," according to the Pendletons.
The couple were not even in the country when the court issued the eviction notice, forcing friends to rescue their belongings from being discarded.
Lee and Georgie Pendleton's apartment in Majorca's Port d'Andratx will be reduced to rubble alongside 11 other properties
"It's heartbreaking. We haven't even told our children yet," Lee told The Telegraph.
Georgie revealed the ordeal has caused her sleepless nights, saying they've been "living on egg shells" throughout the years of demolition threats.
The situation has forced the couple to scramble to save their possessions.
"We had to ask our friends to save our stuff otherwise it would have gone in the skip," Lee explained.
The Pendletons are among the latest victims in a widespread planning scandal that has affected numerous homeowners across Majorca and other parts of Spain.
The roots of this crisis trace back to 2005, when then-Andratx Mayor Eugenio Hidalgo was involved in issuing illegal planning applications in exchange for financial incentives.
The demolition order, which was initially issued in 2013, is finally being executed "after years of threats"
The scandal led to Hidalgo's imprisonment in 2013 after developer Manuel Zapata admitted to paying him tens of thousands of euros for contracts.
The demolition order for the Pendletons' property was issued in September 2013, marking the beginning of their decade-long ordeal.
The Pendletons and other homeowners attempted to resolve the situation by offering to pay Andratx town hall €100,000 each to change the building's title, but their proposal was rejected.
"As a non-resident, they won't interact with you. Even if you go to the town hall. It's like you're being blocked out of the country," Lee said.
He expressed frustration at the authorities' treatment of foreign property owners.
"They're very happy for you to come in, but then you're on your own if any issues arise," he added.
"How can you do this to people? The government should be issuing us compensation at market rate level."
The couple still have a €200,000 mortgage on the property and only heard from their lender when they contacted them about closing the mortgage after receiving the eviction notice.
The Pendletons had a tenant in the property at the time and were given just two days' notice, with utilities to the building being cut off.
Adding to their distress, there are claims that the sea-facing plot could become the site of three luxury villas worth €20m (£16.6m) each once the current buildings are demolished.
Lee said that while they expect losses, the family are trying to salvage "something from this horrific mess," as they still own a portion of the land.

Zafiro Palace Andratx has unveiled the new Mallorcan-inspired art collection that will find home inside its halls
The collection was born from a creative process that began with drawing organic shapes on two materials: paper painted with watercolours, and natural canvases made from palm plants, the material traditionally used when weaving Mallorcan-style baskets
purity and elegance bind together soft curves
clear lines and organic textures over a luminous white,” explain Maribel and Alejandra Bordoy Bennàsar
They continue to explain that the creative process “was born from inspiration provided by the elements of the surrounding landscape itself
the misted yellow of the fields under the sun.”
the duo knew that the intimate spaces of the suites at Zafiro Palace Andratx were the ideal place to bring their visual poems to life
with each piece bringing the spirit of the island into every suite
serves to create an environment of calm and light
CEO of Zafiro Hotels comments: “At Zafiro we like to take care of the details
and we like everything to have a story to tell
So when we planned the new Zafiro Palace Andratx we carefully chose every single piece of furniture
The highlight is the contemporary art collection that embellishes all the exclusive suites.”
Zafiro Palace Andratx is Zafira Hotels’ third five-star Mallorcan hotel
and is one of twelve properties in the collection

RCD Espanyol fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to CE Andratx on Sunday
Espanyol began the game very well and would get in front quickly thanks to a goal from Roger Martínez after 12 minutes
They were comfortable and keeping the hosts away

both teams had a harder time creating dangerous chances
Espanyol were still in it but had to sustain the opposition pressure
knowing how significant a point in Mallorca would be

Espanyol tried with more heart than success and could not find a way to equalise in a match lost due to the small details

First win of Belgian's professional career at misty mountaintop finish at Mirador des Colomer
Kobe Goossens gave Intermarché-Circus-Wanty their second win in three days of the Challenge Mallorca and the first of his professional career
soloing to victory on the summit finale at Mirador des Colomer
Pelayo Sanchez (Burgos-BH) out-sprinted Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto-Dstny) to round out the podium at Trofeo Andratx-Mirador des Colomer
Goossens
was the last rider to survive the day's early breakaway on a freezing cold and wet 160.9km stage
He was one of only two out front at the crest of the island's tallest mountain
the Coll Puig Major with 47km to go along with Bora-Hansgrohe's Cian Uijtdebroeks
unwilling to risk it on the treacherous descents
let go of Goossens wheel with more than 20 kilometres still to race
displaying a deep well of grit and determination to hold off a concerted chase from Soudal-Quickstep into a stinging headwind
A small portion of the peloton caught Uijtebroeks midway through the last two-kilometre push to the finish but couldn't catch the Intermarché rider
who still enjoyed a 39-second lead at the line
The Northern Europeans usually come to Mallorca for some warm weather racing away from the cold
wet winters but the stage from Andratx to Mirador des Colomer was anything but Spanish - it was much more like Belgium
Snow peppered the Sierra Tramuntana and clouds quickly shrouded the peloton after a deceptively sunny start
capping off on the category 1 Coll Puig Major - the highest mountain on Mallorca - at 48km to go
Riders set a furtive tempo in the near-freezing conditions
making for a tough ride to the final 2km kicker up the cliffs of Mirador des Colomer - high above the Port de Pollença
Uijtdebroeks and Goossens were the last survivors of the group after dropping Michael Ries (Arkéa-Samsic)
and Alessio Nieri (Green Project-Bardiani CSF Faizane)
Uijtdebroeks and Goossens extended a 50-second lead to a minute and change
Along the undulating 20km after the summit of the Puig Major
Soudal-Quickstep set a brisk temp at the head of a much-reduced peloton - perhaps more to keep warm than out of concern the duo might stay away - keeping the gap around 1:12
The descent off the mountain was wet and tricky
and Uijtdebroeks was far more cautious than his compatriot
who took risks to open a gap on the Tour de l'Avenir winner
he had 1:40 as the peloton began to stretch out on the technical end of the descent
A cross-headwind contributed to the gaps in the peloton
allowing Soudal-Quickstep's Ilan van Wilder
Louis Vervaeke and Lennard Kämna (Bora-Hansgrohe) to clip off the front
Hugh Carthy (EF Education-EasyPost) joined them but the peloton made more ground to reel them in than the chasers had made into the lead of Goossens
The Intermarché rider and Uijtdebroeks
midway between the leader and the peloton with 5km to go
were stretched across a nearly unassailable gap as they hit the base of the final two-kilometre climb
Soudal-Quickstep got the bit between their teeth to chase but left it too late

Not only is Spanish island Mallorca an absolute mecca for tourism
it is also home to some truly spectacular real estate and the following property is certainly one of the finest

the house is dubbed the ‘Rockstar Villa’ and for good reason
Currently on the market for the equivalent of just over $12 million
the Rockstar Villa was designed by Alberto Rubio
It utilises his seagull design with the roof of the house meant to mirror the wings of a seagull in flight
it measures 5813 square feet on a 16,254 square foot block and looks down to the beautiful Mediterranean Sea
Construction of the house was completed in 2008 and it boasts five bedrooms
a semi-circle shaped infinity pool as well as some exceptionally sharp lines and white render

CCA Andratx is pleased to present the exhibition Between Before and After by renowned British artist Clare Woods
Clare Woods has developed a distinctive painterly language
Wood’s approach to painting has been described as “sculpting with paint” on a base of aluminum
and Woods herself describe the process as very physical
Clare Woods finds her inspiration in photographs she has collected or taken herself
still lives of flowers have also been a recurring motif in Woods’ works
The flower arrangements contain strong references to the memento mori tradition
which has influenced the visual arts since the 17th century
conveying the short-lived nature of life and a sense of vulnerability to time itself
This transmission of psychological emotional states and existential questions is characteristic of the artist’s practice
which works along the delicate border between illness and health
This ambiguous realm makes it possible for Woods to paint more difficult subjects in the same way as the beautiful
where repositioned details and forceful brushstrokes unite the works into a cohesive entity
The artist’s most recent works also relate to the recent pandemic and subsequent lockdown
Woods was profoundly affected by the pandemic
but at the same time it was an excellent opportunity to focus on her work
uninterrupted days in her studio painting intensively
also bringing impressions from home into her work
leading to familiar things then taking on new and distorted meaning
The name of the exhibition Between Before and After is a reference to the fact that there is no going back in time
the exhibition’s name has taken on a completely new meaning: “My works have always had a trace of perceived fear and the real anxiety this fear causes
I would never have been able to imagine what is happening in the world now and how to carry the enormity of this nightmare
Maybe we are all facing the question of what it means to be human”
The exhibition features works from the past six years and is presented in collaboration with Serlachius Museums in Finland
where the exhibition was first shown in 2022 and Dundee Contemporary Arts in Scotland
Between Before and After is curated by Laura Kuurne
Serlachius Museums’ Head of Collections and Exhibitions
and the exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue of the same title
