Andujar is hitting .294 with a .721 OPS and a 109 OPS+ (100 being the average)
Andujar is hitting .325 with a .805 OPS and 11 RBI
Since the call-up of Nick Kurtz which pushed Tyler Soderstrom moving to left field full-time
Andujar has moved into a bench role most days
Where Andujar has been the most effective for the A's is with runners in scoring position
Andujar is hitting .450 with an OPS of 1.128 and 10 RBI
a valuable bat to use off the bench when needed
the 30-year-old outfielder will be an unrestricted free agent this winter
leaving questions about his future with the team beyond this season
The A's have quite a few outfield prospects working their way to the bigs, with Colby Thomas (No. 2) and Denzel Clarke (No. 5) the closest to being "MLB ready"
Either of them could be called up at any point
as they both have been impressive with Triple-A Las Vegas
Thomas has tore it up since his promotion to Las Vegas last June
Thomas is hitting .280 with an OPS of .895
The 24-year-old has massive raw power and a good glove in the outfield; the only knock on Thomas is his strikeout and walk rates being below average during his Triple-A tenure
this season is his first time in Triple-A because of injuries he has battled
Clarke has shown why he is a top-five prospect in the A's system
He is hitting .291 with a .923 OPS and eight extra-base hits
the most impressive stat about Clarke so far is his walk-to-strikeout ratio
he currently has 12 walks and 15 strikeouts on the season
Given that both Thomas and Clarke are playing well and are closer than ever before to making their MLB debuts
the A's may look to trade Andujar this summer
He's a solid bat that can help out a team with true World Series aspirations
Andujar has proved with the A's that he can be effective in either a starting or bench role
He may be a popular name around the trade deadline if he continues to play like he is right now
The question for the A's will be whether the returns they're being offered are worth more than his value to the team the rest of the way
The A's offense has been a borderline top-five unit to start this season
The A's could look to move Andujar for either a starter or reliever to boost their pitching staff and continue to compete in an AL West that is wide open
MATTHEW KALINOWSKIMatt is currently studying Business at the University of Nevada, Reno. He is a life long A's fan and looks forward to pursuing a career in sports.

Andujar went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Rangers
Andujar got the Athletics on the board in the first inning with an RBI single to center field off Tyler Mahle
Thursday marked Andujar's ninth multi-hit game of the season
and he has recorded at least one hit in seven of his last eight contests
going 13-for-30 (.433) with three runs scored
The shortstop headlined the Rockies’ international signing class in 2024
If you buy something from an SB Nation link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement
The now 17-year-old 6’1” switch-hitting shortstop spent his first professional season in the Dominican Summer League as expected (since he was one of the youngest players in his signing class)
where he was 1.7 years younger than league average
Contract Status: 2024 International Free Agent
Andujar fit right in with a .292/.376/.352 line that included ten extra-base hits and 17 steals in 25 attempts
Andujar walked in 9.6% of his plate appearances and struck out in 13.5% of them
Andujar committed 14 errors in 45 games at shortstop
Here is some video of Andujar before he signed with the Rockies
including some looks at him at shortstop and his swing from both sides of the plate:
Eric Longenhagen at Fangraphs ranked Andujar as a 40+ FV prospect and 19th in the system earlier this month
with a plus run grade and a 55 future hit and field tool evaluation:
contact-oriented infielder who should be a long-term shortstop fit
He only K’d 13.5% of the time last year and slashed .291/.376/.352
The foundation of a good baseball player is here
getting 50 or better tool grades on everything except a 40 on power:
Andujar is a switch-hitter who has shown some offensive upside from both sides of the plate
He finds the barrel consistently with high contact rates
rarely strikes out and isn’t afraid of hitting with two strikes
there should be more power to come in the future
that added strength should allow Andujar to add speed as he matures as well
and he’s already aggressive on the basepaths and likes to steal
He has all the makings of a solid shortstop
with soft hands and an arm that could eventually be plus
His defensive tools play up because he has excellent instincts and awareness to go along with a good internal clock
As an up-the-middle player who was a seven-figure international signee
Andujar is joining a recent tradition of PuRPs
but his athleticism provides a good foundation for him as a potential regular
so long as he doesn’t end up a Punch-and-Judy hitter
We’ll see if the Rockies keep him in the DR next year or if he plays in the ACL — my bet is he returns to the DSL but makes a cameo stateside
The potential and performance so far were enough for me to rank Andujar 25th on my list as a 40 FV player amid a number of other interesting shortstop prospects in the system

Andujar is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
The 30-year-old has enjoyed a productive start to the season with a .795 OPS through 19 games, but he may still end up being the odd man out of the lineup with prospect Nick Kurtz being called up Wednesday for his MLB debut. Kurtz is expected to play every day between first base and designated hitter, which will result in Tyler Soderstrom and Brent Rooker seeing more action in left field, with Soderstrom receiving the start Wednesday.

Austin Adams and Dany Jiménez all due for salary bumps
The A's essentially non-tendered Jiménez and Adams, then came to terms on a $2.7 million contract for 2025 with Seth Brown. Earlier this week, the A's signed DH/OF Brent Rooker to an extension
The deal has five guaranteed years at $60 million
On Thursday, the A's came to terms with Andujar, avoiding arbitration, on a one-year deal worth $3 million, as was first reported by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. MLB Trade Rumors had projected him for $2.8 million earlier this offseason
This will be his final season under team control
as he'll be able to test free agency following the 2025 campaign
With all of the A's contracts now settled, and the rest of the roster still pre-arb, the payroll projection for the club over at Roster Resource sits at roughly $97 million, still shy of the projected $105 threshold the club needs to reach to avoid a grievance being filed by the MLBPA
Andujar and Brown figure to be part of a platoon in left field
Andujar missed some time to begin and end the 2024 season
but in between he played in 75 games and hit .285 with a .320 OBP
Brown was optioned to Triple-A during the season
but got into 124 games and hit .231 with a .283 OBP and 14 home runs
He was equally productive against both righties and lefties over the course of the full season
but was a much better hitter in the second half
posting a 107 wRC+ while hitting .263 with a .304 on-base
USA; Oakland Athletics left fielder Seth Brown (15) reacts after hitting a walk-off single against the Detroit Tigers during the thirteenth inning at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum
Mandatory Credit: Darren Yamashita-Imagn Images / Darren Yamashita-Imagn ImagesAndujar posted solid numbers overall
but was much better against left-handers (Brown is also a lefty)
so that is where the platoon option makes sense
saw his walk rate jump up from 3.1% to 8.2% and he posted a 192 wRC+ in the small sample size
Only Aaron Judge posted a higher wRC+ last season overall
so Andujar was a legit masher with a lefty on the mound
It also doesn't hurt that his strikeout rate dipped below ten percent
they could form a pretty solid player in the aggregate
especially if Andujar continues to produce like he did in 2024
Andujar showcased a terrific arm in left on a number of occasions
but the advanced metrics weren't big fans of his range in the field
That ranked among the worst left fielders in the game
and Jesse Winker (-9) finishing with worse scores
Given that Andujar played in just 75 games
The A's are likely to make another move or two before Opening Day
the roster is fairly set ahead of the 2025 season
JASON BURKEJason has been covering the A’s at various sites for over a decade, and was the original host of the Locked on A’s podcast. He also covers the Stanford Cardinal as they attempt to rebuild numerous programs to prominence.
Cross off one more thing on the offseason to-do list
Yesterday was the final day for players and their teams to come to terms on arbitration salaries for the coming 2025 season
While many teams are file-and-trial (which means once they exchange figures and the deadline passes
they go all the way through the arbitration process)
They’re ready to get deals done before going before a panel
For the Athletics they had a grand total of three players eligible for arbitration this offseason: first baseman/outfielder Miguel Andujar, first baseman/outfielder Seth Brown, and Designated Hitter Brent Rooker. The club already sorted Rooker out with his 5-year extension just a few days ago, and they took care of Brownie’s deal all the way back in November
locking in the lefty batter at $2.7MM for what could be his final season in the Green & Gold
So going into yesterday the club only had to deal with Andujar’s contract situation
The team finally came to terms with Andujar on the last day to do so
locking him in at $3MM for the coming season:
Miguel Andujar and the Athletics have settled on a $3 million deal for 2025
The right-handed Andujar figures to be in the left field and first base mix as things stand today
The right-handed batter was once a former top prospect with the New York Yankees and looked like a budding star for them in his first full season back in 2018
Unfortunately injuries have completely derailed his career for the past few seasons
playing in a grand total of 144 major league games between 2019 and 2023
The Athletics took a chance on him and signed him last season and brought him aboard as a buy-low right-handed hitting option for the outfield and first base
He was on fire during spring training but suffered an injury and missed much of the first two months of the season
When he returned he was a quality right-handed bat for the A’s but especially thrived against left-handed pitching
slashing .411/.459/.536 though that was in a small-ish sample of 54 plate appearances
He did miss the final portion of the year with another injury but we finally saw some extended quality hitting from Andujar after years of being irrelevant
Overall for the year he hit .285/.320/.377 with four home runs and three stolen bases in 319 at-bats
The plan as of now is to have Andujar split time in left field with Seth Brown based on the handedness of the pitcher but you can definitely expect to see him at first base plenty in the coming season
The team has the left-handed Tyler Soderstrom set to man the long side of the platoon at first base but he may sit in favor of the right-handed Andujar on days there is a tough lefty on the mound
There aren’t any other right-handed first basemen on the roster that are better platoon candidates than Andujar (unless you consider Gio Urshela a candidate to take first basemen reps)
If health permits then Andujar should get plenty of at-bats in the Athletics’ first season in Sacramento
Hopefully he can tap into that potential and be another big right-handed bat for the club
the group of arbitration eligible players will be deeper and more expensive
Besides Brown all of those players will be getting their first significant raises as major leaguers so expect a bit more drama next year as the club continues trying to build its core
And thoughts are with all of you down in Los Angeles right now
The A’s have scheduled a press conference with Brent Rooker for this afternoon at 3 p.m. that will be streamed live. https://t.co/duUBDleL1x
General Manager on the recently-extended Rooker:
"He's established himself both on and off the field -- is really the leader of this team ..
Brent's impact on the clubhouse was apparent immediately when he got here." - A's GM David Forst earlier today at Rooker's press conference
I hope this communicates that this organization is a very desirable place to play for a lot of reasons
mainly the group of people involved on a day-to-day basis

WILKES-BARRE — Luzerne County Judge Michael T
Vough continued the Hazleton homicide trial of Frangel Garcia Andujar due to a recently launched investigation of alleged intimidation of witnesses
During an emergency motion’s hearing Monday
McMonagle requested Andujar’s trial be postponed as translation of approximately 140 jailhouse phone calls need to be reviewed
McMonagle said there is a strong belief Andujar
called witnesses in the case and had his girlfriend contact witnesses
Several phone calls Andujar made from the county correctional facility have been translated from Spanish to English but McMonagle said there are many more calls that need to be transcribed
McMonagle said MAGLOCLEN (Middle Atlantic-Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network) is assisting in the translation of Andujar’s phone calls
“We have been prepared for trial and oppose any continuance,” Kansky said
Vough granted McMonagle’s request to continue Andujar’s trial until June
McMonagle said there remains the possibility Andujar and others may be charged with intimidation of witnesses depending on a review of Andujar’s recorded phone calls
Hazleton police and county detectives charged Andujar with fatally shooting Stanley Jimson
and injuring four others during a party at a house on South Wyoming Street on March 6
The case has involved contentious court proceedings
including Andujar’s preliminary hearing held in May 2022
when two people were ejected from the courtroom
a witness calling an attorney “stupid,” a perceived threat toward a witness
and another witness allegedly displaying gang signs from the witness stand
Andujar remains jailed without bail on charges of criminal homicide
criminal attempt to commit criminal homicide
eight counts of aggravated assault and four counts of reckless endangerment
As Andujar’s trial was continued at the request of prosecutors
Kansky and Scanlon have the option to file a motion to dismiss the entire homicide case under Pennsylvania’s speedy trial rule
From astonishing rookie season to journeyman
this third-base prospect was an example of holding on for too long
The problem with the post-Dynasty Era Yankees prospects was not so much talent acquisition
The farm system generated quite enough oomph in 2016
to sustain the team to four ALCS appearances and a pennant
but obviously that wasn’t enough to punch the final ticket
there is a juncture point with each and every single player
Unless they are signed to a lifetime contract you can make micro-decisions at every time; a decision to extend
We can confidently say that with respect to Miguel Andújar
the issue was clearly decision-making more than the lost potential from the player himself
How They Left: Designated for assignment; claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates
Career MLB Statistics [to date]: 8 seasons
Andújar was signed as an international free agent in 2011 out of the Dominican Republic for $750,000, ranked by MLB Pipeline’s 18th best international amateur during that cycle
He studiously began marching up the minor league ranks
putting together full seasons for Low-A Charleston in 2014 and High-A Tampa in 2015 before splitting the season between High-A and Double-A in 2016
It was definitely odd; the Yankees were not traditionally known to hand positions to prospects
hit to a .297/.328/.527 slash line with 2.9 rWAR
and set a Yankees rookie record for doubles with 47
It was legitimately one of the best seasons by a young hitter in Yankees history
and the 23-year-old finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting to Shohei Ohtani
This would be the first and last time they will be mentioned together in the same sentence
It was, frankly, a wonderful season despite the cringe-worthy defensive metrics. I (Yes, I) wrote in the Baseball Prospectus Annual for the following season that “Older fans will probably see the player they wished was around more often in today’s game—gap power
Other analytically-inclined fans wince at the statuesque range at third..
It’s difficult to succeed as one-half of a ballplayer
but that’s often more of a rookie ballplayer than other teams can claim.”
It was a telling comment in the sense that the Yankees should have recognized they indeed had half of a player to deal. On December 11th, it was reported that the Yankees did have interest in moving Andújar
It felt like rumors consistently swirled about players like him and Clint Frazier
but at a time when the organization was just getting off their feet development-wise
Andújar was mostly bumped to the outfield and appeared in just 21 games in the COVID-shortened season
he was designated for assignment and claimed by the Pirates three days later
short bursts of above-average offensive performance but overall replacement level
He would play just 30 games for Pittsburgh in 2023
and was claimed off of waivers by Oakland in November
He logged about a half-season in 2024 at 74 games
putting together an oddly career-average offensive year at 103 OPS+
Projections think he’ll be similar in 2025 to 2024
and while his career is certainly not over
we can confidently close the book on Andújar The Yankee
Baseball Reference

“The fall of Miguel Andújar.” Pinstripe Alley

CINCINNATI -- Oakland Athletics outfielder Miguel Andujar will have season-ending surgery
"He was a big contributor and a big part of this club's success over the past few months
We'll definitely look forward to having him back next year."
Andujar was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday
with what was described as a core muscle injury
and infielder Nick Allen was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas
"Miguel's been playing with this issue for a few weeks," Kotsay said
"It's a credit to Miguel and testament to the character of the young man to continue to play
It just got to a point where it was uncomfortable sleeping and impacting his daily life as well."
This is Andujar's second stint on the IL after beginning the season there following right knee surgery
Andujar batted .285 with four home runs and 30 RBIs
He ranks third among major league outfielders with 10 assists
The 25-year-old Allen batted .171 with one home run and three RBIs in 28 games before being optioned to Triple-A on May 3
seven homers and 51 RBI in 81 games for Las Vegas

it’s that I have things to say about them — focus on 3 players in the A’s organization
was at risk of being out of the organization was he was DFA at age 23 just a couple years after being considered one of the A’s brightest hitting prospects
there is a misperception among fans that when a player is designated for assignment
it means the team doesn’t want them anymore
It is actually not uncommon for a player who is DFA to survive the 10-day purgatory period without being traded and then to clear waivers and stay with their current organization
Diaz was always likely to clear waivers because not only would he require a big league roster spot
As a “bat first” player who wasn’t hitting at the time
Diaz was unlikely to draw interest as a big league DH or bench player you would never use as a defensive replacement or pinch runner
So the A’s took a calculated gamble that they would keep Diaz and it paid off
And since the DFA gave Diaz a second chance with the same team
Diaz has hit in all 8 games going 15 for 31 with 2 doubles and 2 HRs
Suddenly his season stats are actually decent (.271/.336/.426) but more importantly since returning to the place he never left
but as a rebuttal I submit the following exhibit: Liam Hendriks
It’s easy to forget that when the A’s acquired Hendriks he was an ok reliever but nothing special: good stuff but strangely hittable with very inconsistent results
For most of his time with the A’s Hendriks was anything but dominant
Hendriks became so fungible that in June of 2018 the A’s DFA’d him — and in doing so
Hendriks cites the DFA as being the ultimate “wake up call,” not just a prime motivator but also proof that he needed to change and adjust rather than just throwing the ball as hard as he could and hoping for good results
Hendriks blossomed in his return to Oakland
posting ERAs of 1.78 and 1.80 in 2019 and 2020
serving as a lock down closer and earning a 3-year contract with the White Sox in free agency to serve as their closer
(Hendriks was again brilliant in 2021 and 2022 but has since been slowed down by non-Hodgkins lymphoma and a subsequent arm injury.)
such as was the case when Oakland removed Freddy Tarnok from the 40 man roster only to have him be swooped up by the Phillies
But it can also serve as a crucial wake up call and motivator for a player stuck in old habits and mindsets
in need of a reminder that there are plenty of prospects behind them waiting to take their spot if they stall or refuse to adjust
It will be interesting to see what Diaz does in larger than an 8 game sample
but at least for a week the A’s are looking mighty shrewd for issuing a needed wake up call to Diaz and then keeping him around to
(And he needs to learn how to play defense somewhere.)
Estes is being compared to Tim Hudson for his “bulldog mentality,” and that’s high praise indeed
Estes is generally regarded as being more of a “back end SP” who could be a valuable #4 SP but that is quite different from Huddy’s rise to win 222 career games at the front end of playoff caliber teams
Estes actually throws harder (averaging 93.1 MPH where Huddy sat at 90.4 MPH over his career)
boasted a 58% ground ball rate in his career
In his 7 big league starts Estes’ ground ball rate is a rather stunningly low 20.9%
A lot of fly balls means more HRs and fewer DPs
and generally more extra base hits among the hits allowed
Estes shares many qualities with fellow SP J.P
Both throw fastballs that are solid but not spectacular
both believe in their fastball and can ride it effectively up in the zone
both have good secondary pitches they can mix in
both attack the strike zone and limit walks
and both inherently struggle to keep the ball in the park due to their fly ball tendencies
Where the two may be diverging is that this season
Down are the ERA (3.93 compared to 4.54) and the HRs (0.98 per 9 IP compared to last year’s frightening 1.78)
I would put it out there that for Estes to take the next step forward
he needs to be able to coax at least a few ground balls and not rely on keeping fly ball after fly ball in the park
or to reduce a power hitter to how hard they can hit it on the infield
is a necessary skill to have in your back pocket
We will see if the A’s work with Estes to mix in a 2-seam sinker and if so whether the 22 year old takes to it
has the right mindset — but so long as his GB% sits at around 20% he isn’t going to move beyond “solid #4 SP” material
basically an automatic hit most likely smoked somewhere
The answer to this trick question is: both
Because the two stretches have something unsettling in common and that is: 0 walks
Andujar has now taken 50 plate appearances without drawing a single walk
So for a while Andujar was getting some good pitches to hit and he wasn’t missing them
Lately he is getting a lot of chase pitches to hit and he isn’t taking or hitting them
He has shown that he can mash strikes hard and far
He has also shown that if offered only junk he will still swing
but will more often strike out (as he has done 4 times in those last 20 PAs) or make weak contact
I have been encouraged by Andujar’s very passable play in LF
nothing spectacular but good enough to secure a lineup spot for him if he is hitting
the league has quickly figured out an easy way to get him out: don’t give him anything to hit and let him get himself out
It’s one thing not to walk a lot and “a whole nother thing” not to walk
Let’s see what the next 50 PAs bring — whether Andujar insists that pitchers come into the strike zone to get him out or whether he continues to oblige by bailing out pitchers who would
prefer not to challenge him in the heart of the zone

Jaison Andujar is following in the footsteps of his famous father

Gyorkos said as Andujar has grown more comfortable in his surroundings
“He started leaving the yard more often,” Gyorkos said

Gyorkos and Andujar then erupted in laughter

Professional ball is Andujar’s preferred path
Gyorkos said he’s seen qualities that will make Andujar succeed in that path
“I think he has the leadership qualities that it takes,” Gyorkos said

Oakland brought in Andujar via waivers from the Pirates last offseason
They agreed to a $1.7MM salary to avoid arbitration
A meniscus repair cost him the first six weeks of the regular season
Andujar returned in late May and went on to have an alright season
He played in 70 games and hit .285/.320/.377
That’s essentially league average offensive production
His 319 plate appearances represented his highest total since his 2018 rookie campaign
when he popped 27 homers as the Yankees’ everyday third baseman to earn a runner-up finish in Rookie of the Year voting
The righty-hitting Andujar had huge platoon splits
He mashed left-handed pitching at a .411/.459/.536 clip in 61 trips
His .256/.287/.341 showing versus righties was far less impressive
Andujar certainly won’t maintain that kind of production against southpaws over a big sample
yet he kept his strikeout rate to a meager 9.8% clip in those situations
That could be enough to get him another shot as a short side platoon bat going into next season
and he’s going through the process for the first time
there’s ample payroll flexibility to retain Andujar if they feel he has any untapped upside at the plate
Oakland Athletics Miguel Andujar
Haven’t heard anything about the new “stadium” or the “move” in a while
At least he’s doing better than that other player
The Tropicana gets knocked down next month
A’s will play in Sacramento and hopefully will be rid of the Lets go Oakland roaches
The Teopicana gets knocked down in October
This is probably the end for him on the A’s
because Seth Brown will probably man LF in 2025 with Soderstrom taking his 1B spot back
Andujar did provide some nice assists with his arm
but the lack of power is now explained with his core injury
Andujar could be back next season as he is still arb-eligable
even if he’s non-tendered there’s always a minor league deal
I do wonder if the A’s will continue to play roster musical chairs as they try to endear themselves to the Sacramento fan base while also trying to help Sacramento prove it is MLB franchise worthy
It’s a fact that the A’s will be stacked when they go to Las Vegas
but I could see them make the playoffs in Sacramento
a triple A park would not be suitable for a playoff game
Hope that the coliseum would be willing to house them for the playoffs
Are there any NFL stadiums in California that can fold into a diamond
(Baseball at sofi stadium would be awesome ngl)
It is not a fact the A’s will be stacked when they go to Vegas
That would take a certain cheapskate billionaire to spend some of his inherited money
and he’d have to find players willing to play for a lame organization
Their hitting should improve in Sacramento
Haven’t followed him this year but if he’s been playing with a core injury that required surgery
Those stats against lefties even if unsustainable
He’s close to an average corner OF’er
Got plenty of arm but struggles with range most likely attributable to his reads and footwork
Great to see him continue his career as a corner utility player but he still doesn’t have the power to be a everyday option
I expect him to be non-tendered but would not be surprised if he gets a 1 yr/$2 mill deal somewhere
He’s really not worth going to arbitration with
Could be another (albeit defensively worse) Rob Refsnyder for some team off the bench: a guy who absolutely kills lefties
If Seth Brown is the best the A’s can do for left field next season
At what point do the A’s attempt to put a competitive team on the field
After they finally come to terms with their failed “move” from Oak-town and own up to reality of being in Oak-town long term
Even if they “move” to Las Vegas
because every team that has moved to a new city has failed
Orioles,… You would think they would have learned by now
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_Orioles_(1901%E2%8…
It’s understandable because for the longest period it was accepted that the Baltimore team moved to NY and became the Yankees
it became clear that they had no direct connection to the Baltimore orioles franchise
there is still some disagreement and I do leave open the slight chance there may have been a link between the two teams
The answer lies in a landfill somewhere in NY
All the early records on the formation of the Yankees
were in something like a safe that was accidentally thrown out when they refurbished Yankee Stadium in the mid-70s
and it would be an actual treasure fortune to whomever could find it
Poor guy can’t catch a break since his almost rookie of the year season
get well and we hope to see you back for a winning season for the A’s next year

The A’s announced some roster moves and pitching plans yesterday evening just a couple hours before game time
First and foremost was the season-ending injury to one of Oakland’s better hitters
Miguel Andujar is out for the season with a core muscle injury
Not a great way to end his season after starting the year on the shelf
Andujar will end the 2024 campaign having played in 75 games donning the Green & Gold
He slashed .285/.320/.377 with four home runs and three stolen bases
good for a just ever so slightly above league average 102 OPS+
putting up huge platoon splits and offering above-average production against left-handed pitching
He also almost exclusively played left field for the club though no one confused him with Eric Byrnes in the outfield
The injuries held Andujar back yet again this year but he was a productive bat for the club when he was on the field
It didn’t cost much for the A’s to bring him on board and it shouldn’t cost much next season either
He’s about to be 30 years old and didn’t provide much power but he’s also under team control for one more year and the club has money to spend
I’d expect them to bring him back for Round 2 next year
Manager Mark Kotsay gave some brief remarks on Andujar after the news was announced:
"We are going to miss him."Mark Kotsay reflects on Miguel Andújar's season-ending core muscle injury pic.twitter.com/SUZnLULrR9
That roster subtraction of course required a corresponding addition to the active roster
And I feel I can say to everyone’s surprise
former starting shortstop Nick Allen was the one who got the call to return to the big leagues:
We have made the following roster moves. pic.twitter.com/GOGXKTMmSe
The last time we saw Nick Allen with the big league club was all the way back on May 1st
his final game before getting demoted to Triple-A
At the time of his demotion he was slashing a paltry .171/.227/.243 with one home run and no stolen bases
Now of course it came with the great defense at shortstop but even those numbers were too much for the club to stomach
They made the move and Allen has been in the minors the rest of the season
Since his demotion though he’s looked like a completely different hitter
hitting .345/.431/.497 with seven bombs in 81 games
Now granted he’s playing in a bandbox of a home ballpark and league as a whole
but those would be MVP level numbers if Allen could translate that to the big leagues
Yet after three years he’s yet to be able to do that
and with fellow young shortstop Jacob Wilson now in the fold and Darell Hernaiz likely ahead of him on the depth chart these may be the last days we see Nicky Knocks in the Green & Gold
Maybe Allen has finally figured it out this time
He’ll need to make the most of what is likely to be limited opportunities in September
we now know who will be taking the ball for the Athletics today in the series finale with a sweep within our grasp:
Ginn is scheduled to make his first Major League start tomorrow for the A’s
This comes after just a pair of relief appearances for the A’s since his call up
In those two appearances Ginn has gone more than one inning
looking electric in his first outing and a bit less so in his second
the final remaining piece of the Chris Bassitt trade
started the year out in Double-A before getting promoted to Triple-A after about a month
He’s been a starter all season long so this assignment shouldn’t be too foreign for him but your first start is your first start
There shouldn’t be a low pitch count for him today but he may get the quick hook if things look like they’re going off the rails
as you may have noticed in the press release the club also announced that infielder Abraham Toro cleared waivers and will now head to Triple-A
where the 27-year old is likely to spend the rest of the baseball season
It’s a disappointing end for an A’s tenure that started out so well
He’ll likely find a new home over the offseason
somewhere that can offer him a clearer path to playing time and at bats
Newest prospect making a big first impression:
TRISTAN GRAY In his A’s organization debut he clears the bases in a big way #AviatorsLV pic.twitter.com/o6cqkoIZPB
The last piece of the Matt Chapman trade remaining with the A’s:
After leading the A's minor league system with 130 2/3 innings pitched for Midland & Las Vegas this season
it looks like RHP Gunnar Hoglund is being shut down
Hopefully the overthinking was the main problem all along:
Had a couple of conversations with Seth Brown since he returned from Triple-A
He admitted getting caught up in the numbers -- been very impressive at the plate since taking that step back
Osvaldo Bido with the sixth-lowest August ERA in A’s history

In federal court Wednesday, Leonardo Andujar Sanchez, 28, waived his right to an immediate detention hearing and remains in federal custody. Andujar Sanchez was arrested at the Quality Inn in Revere last month and faces state charges of possessing an assault rifle and $1 million worth of fentanyl
on Wednesday said federal prosecutors became involved because of the seriousness of the case
"If the migrant crisis creates a public safety risk we're going to hopefully be part of the solution in keeping the community safe," said Levy, who is stepping down next week before President-elect Donald Trump takes office
Andujar Sanchez's attorney said he was retained by his client's family in Massachusetts and plans to fight the charges
Prosecutors said Andujar Sanchez is a Dominican national who entered the country illegally and was staying with a woman at the Revere shelter
The unidentified woman called Revere police to report the gun and drugs in the hotel room
Healey told reporters she is "glad" federal prosecutors are involved and that her administration has "zero tolerance" for criminal activity
The Revere arrest prompted Healey to order inspections of all shelter facilities and a review of their intake procedures
Healey said her administration is working to keep shelters safe
Details of how those inspections will be conducted have not been released
"I will do everything I can to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in shelter
and that's exactly why I ordered the inspections and why we took swift action to remove that individual from the Revere hotel and we'll continue to operate that way going forward," Healey said
But state data show that criminal activity has been widely reported at state shelters
which have housed a wave of migrant families over the past three years
Healey said as many as 50,000 migrants have come to the state during that time and most people are not involved in crime
"The vast majority of folks are complying with rules
The Massachusetts Republican Party has released the state data
showing hundreds of serious incidents have been reported at state emergency shelters since 2022
The heavily redacted data describe reports of domestic violence
said the state should have had better oversight of a program estimated to cost almost $1 billion this fiscal year
"This has been a taxpayer funded humanitarian crisis that's been happening under everyone's noses," Trupiano said
"Great the governor has decided now she's going to take action because this is public
Republicans are seeking to amend the state's "right to shelter" law
which promises housing to families with children
Trupiano said the GOP wants the law changed to require six months of Massachusetts residency to be eligible for family housing
then transferred him to the 60-day IL a few days later to clear up a spot on the 40-man roster
the A's provided a medical update on the 29-year-old
"Outfielder Miguel Andujar underwent successful core muscle surgery today with Dr
William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia
He will return to Oakland to begin rehabilitation prior to the offseason."
After missing the first two months of the season
and ultimately made it into 75 games with the A's in 2024
That is the most games he's racked up in a season since his breakout year in 2018 with the New York Yankees when he played in 149 contests
His previous high game count in the big leagues was 45 back in 2021
Andujar hit .285 with a .320 OBP and four homers
He finished the year with a 102 wRC+ (100 is league average)
and provided the A's lineup with a solid veteran bat
The question heading into this offseason is whether his roster spot will be waiting for him when 2025 rolls around
Centerfielder JJ Bleday has been having a breakout year
and just set the franchise record for doubles in a season (39) by a centerfielder on Tuesday night in Houston
Lawrence Butler has had a pretty solid breakout of his own in the second half
batting .328 with a .368 OBP and a 181 wRC+
good for the sixth-best bat in baseball since the break
Brent Rooker is entrenched as the team's DH
which really limits Andujar to seeing action in left field
and potentially even Ryan Noda in the mix for playing time in the outfield in 2025
It's likely that the A's part with a couple of those options either via trade or DFA
Andujar has proven to be a solid bat with great contact skills
and playing in Sacramento there is a chance that his power production could also go up
making him an even bigger headache for opposing pitchers
There will be some tough decisions that need to be made when it comes to roster construction
and this could be one of them if the team feels they could target a slight upgrade
'He's just a hitter': Andujar stays hot with 3-hit nightJune 20th
OAKLAND -- Expectations were sky-high for Miguel Andujar this season based on his impressive Spring Training before a knee injury sidelined him for two months
he has somehow managed to exceed those high hopes
The torrid delayed start to Andujar’s season continued in Wednesday’s 5-1 win over the Royals at the Coliseum
which notched the A’s back-to-back victories for the first time since a six-game winning streak from April 28-May 4
The left fielder went 3-for-5 with an RBI and is now batting .330 (30-for-91)
Andujar’s three singles on the night marked his 10th multihit game
Those 10 multihit performances are the most by a player through his first 22 games with the A’s since Starling Marte
who electrified the club as a 2021 midseason acquisition with 11 multihit efforts through his first 22 games
This is the talented hitter most projected Andujar to develop into after a breakout 2018 campaign with the Yankees as a third baseman that saw him finish runner-up to Shohei Ohtani in AL Rookie of the Year voting
bouts with injuries prevented him from getting enough playing time to even get a chance to replicate that level of success
Claimed off waivers from the Pirates last November
Andujar looked forward to joining a rebuilding A’s club where opportunity figured to be abundant
the 29-year-old is capitalizing on his chance
“He’s taken advantage,” manager Mark Kotsay said of Andujar
had he not had the significant injuries that he’s gone through in his career
we’ll have the remainder of this season watching him do some special things.”
Andujar’s penchant for putting the ball in play stands out
He’s struck out just 12 times in 94 plate appearances
He registered the two hardest-hit balls of any player on Wednesday
including a scorching 110.3 mph single off Royals starter Cole Ragans in the first inning
“You don’t see these types of hitters that often currently in the game that really have bat-to-ball skills along with the ability to hit it with some force and exit velo
We talked about the impact he could have once we got him back
He’s a real positive to the middle of the order.”
and more from the A's and MLB delivered right to your inbox
One aspect of Andujar’s game that the A’s were previously unaware of showed up in the fourth while he was playing defense
On a ball hit by Salvador Perez that sailed over his head
Andujar strategically played the bounce off the left-field wall
Perez dug for second base and was thrown out by Andujar
where Zack Gelof applied the tag for the first out of the inning
and Miguel came to him and said he wanted to do some throwing,” Kotsay said
“Bobby came back to me and said he’s got a really accurate arm
there’s some comfortability and less thought process
I think that impacts his offense as well.”
Andujar’s hot bat helped Oakland overcome a tall task in Ragans
who in his two previous starts against the A’s shut them down across 13 scoreless innings with just four hits and two walks allowed with 18 strikeouts
the A’s pushed across two early runs against the left-hander on a pair of RBI singles by Andujar and Brent Rooker in the third
which was enough support on a night that saw starter Luis Medina and the A’s bullpen keep Kansas City’s offense mostly in check
“We did a good job being a little more patient tonight,” Rooker said of the offensive approach against Ragans
“We got a few walks and were able to work him deeper into some counts
you see more pitches and see the stuff more
You give him more of a chance to make mistakes and put good swings on it.”

2024 | 00:00:33add-reel-447668Reelsshare-square-2-447669ShareMiguel Andujar singles to right field in the bottom of the 6th inning
scoring Daz Cameron and making it 1-0 A's
which led to plenty of speculation that he could be traded at the end of last month
The A's decided to hold onto him as the club has begun tallying wins
Andujar is batting .288 with a .325 OBP this season in 69 games since returning from injury
and has been a consistent hitter in the lineup since his A's debut in late May
The 69 games are the most he's had in a single season since his rookie campaign back in 2018 with the New York Yankees
But what was really eye-catching over the weekend was the spikes that Andujar was wearing for Player's Weekend
Miguel Andujar's Player's Weekend spikes / They read "Last stand
1968-2024" They also have some of the retired numbers of former A's greats
including the Reggie Jackson's number nine
San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin didn't go so fancy with his shoes on Sunday
but he did wear white shoes in the dugout pregame
Andujar has only been with the club playing in games for a few short months
so for him to have this kind of an homage to the Oakland Coliseum speaks to some of the reverence that people have for the ballpark and its history
and for the gratitude that some players have to the front office for taking a chance on them and providing an opportunity to showcase what they can do
The Oakland Coliseum received a lot of love over the weekend as fans and media alike were a bit more sentimental with the San Francisco Giants in town
being that this was the final time that the two teams would square off for the Bay Bridge Series
The A's have seven games left on their current homestand
then will have just two more before their time at the Coliseum comes to an end on September 26
That game has already been announced as a sellout
playing five games with the New York Yankees before having a stellar rookie campaign in 2018 that saw him finish second in AL Rookie of the Year voting to Shohei Ohtani
the only time he had played at the Oakland Coliseum before being claimed off waivers by the A's last offseason was in that 2018 campaign
His main memory from that September series was that it was cold
So why did a player that had played all of two games at the Coliseum before donning the green and gold in 2024 decide to get spikes made with a farewell message to the Oakland Coliseum
It turns out that the guy that makes Andujar's shoes brought up the suggestion since this is the A's final year at the Oakland Coliseum
I know the fans really want us to stay here
so I wanted to do something cool for the fans to remember our last year here." The history of the ballpark and all of the great players that have come through those halls were another reason that he was compelled to have these spikes made for him
While he went hitless as a member of the Yankees at the Coliseum
which came after missing the first two months of the season
he ripped a single to left field to put the A's up 1-0 on the Houston Astros back in May as part of a 3-for-4 night
Andujar is batting .316 with a .329 OBP and a .740 OPS
Andujar + Rooker = A lot more offense for the A'sSchuemann matches Andujar with four hits in an 11-run outburst by OaklandJune 2nd
ATLANTA -- The A’s were excited about the prospect of Miguel Andujar and Brent Rooker forming a potent threat in the middle of their order this season
A knee injury that sidelined Andujar near the end of Spring Training prevented the A’s from seeing the duo perform together through the first two months of the regular season
the two have shown why Oakland was so excited
coming out in full force on Saturday afternoon
The A’s 11-9 victory over the Braves at Truist Park was keyed by Andujar and Rooker
going 6-for-10 with two homers and a double
Andujar has hit the ground running since making his season debut on May 24
Matching a career high with four hits and four RBIs on Saturday
his 12 RBIs are the most by a player through their first seven games with the A’s since Jack Cust (14) in 2007
Batting .448 with a 1.157 OPS over that stretch
his 13 hits are tied for sixth most by an A’s player through their first seven games with the club and the most since Jed Lowrie
The hot start feels like a continuation of what Andujar has done since being claimed off waivers from the Pirates last November
He hit .306 in 31 games while playing for Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League
then established himself as part of Oakland’s plans for 2024 by hitting .357 with a 1.110 OPS and a team-best five home runs in 14 Cactus League games before tearing the meniscus in his right knee
he swung the bat well in five rehab games for Triple-A Las Vegas
going 7-for-18 (.389) with four doubles and six RBIs
we talked and he was so excited to have an opportunity to be part of this group,” said A’s manager Mark Kotsay
Andujar has brought a certain clutch factor for an A’s club that has struggled for most of the year hitting with runners in scoring position
He’s now 8-for-13 (.615) with two homers and 12 RBIs in such situations
Andujar has only struck out twice in 30 plate appearances
and he seemingly makes hard contact every time up
In addition to his three-run shot off Chris Sale in the second that was scorched 105.4 mph off the bat
he also belted singles at exit velocities of 106.7 and 99.6 mph
“Watching him hit is really fun,” said Rooker
whose 2-for-4 effort with four RBIs pushed his on-base streak to 12 games
It just seems like he’s on every pitch all the time
He can make hard contact with any pitch in any count.”

Rookie Max Schuemann capped a career-best four-hit day of his own with a leadoff double in the eighth that led to the A’s adding an important insurance run two batters later on an RBI single by Andujar
The four hits by Schuemann and Andujar marked the first time two A’s players recorded four hits in the same game since Marcus Semien and Joey Wendle on Oct
Every bit of this offensive outburst was vital for the A’s
After tagging Sale for a career-high-tying eight runs in four innings
the Braves stormed back with six runs in the fifth off starter Aaron Brooks to pull ahead with a one-run lead
the A’s jumped ahead again in the top of the sixth on Rooker’s two-run double
today was one of our best games of the year,” Kotsay said
“We faced an elite pitcher in Chris Sale who is having a really good year
To put the at-bats that we put together against him early shows we had a good gameplan and executed it.”
With flamethrowing rookie closer Mason Miller unavailable after throwing two innings and 32 pitches on Thursday
Dany Jiménez got the call for the A’s in the ninth and turned in a scoreless frame to snap a three-game losing skid for Oakland
“As much as you want to push him and he wants to push
we made the right decision for him today,” Kotsay said of staying away from Miller in the ninth
it is inevitable that on July 30th at 3 p.m.
the Oakland A’s will be sellers at the deadline
They also have a handful of players on the roster that are under team control for the next several years and are not critical trade pieces
others could provide value for teams that are looking to contend while allowing the A’s to get pieces that they can apply towards the future
One player that comes to mind is left fielder and former New York Yankee Miguel Andujar
who after being removed from the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 40-man roster following the 2023 season
was claimed by the A’s in November with one more year of arbitration eligibility in 2025
Missing the first few weeks of the 2024 season due to a meniscus injury
Andujar has been red-hot in Oakland since making his season debut on May 24th
currently hitting .302 for the campaign while adding on four home runs and 26 RBI
Andujar has arguably been one of the A’s best hitters aside from Lawrence Butler and Brent Rooker
dominating the opposition in the Angels series win
3-for-4 in game two and 3-for-5 in game three
He then proceeded to shine just as brightly in the Astros series
finishing the series going a combined 4-for-14
Andujar’s ability to make contact and get on base has been massive for the A’s
especially during the team’s recent run of success
and has allowed him to fully take the reins as the team’s everyday left fielder
Andujar is under team control through next season
which makes him a little more valuable than a rental player
Given his production this season compared to his pre-season projections
Fantasy Pros projected that he would slash .254/.302/.398/.700 compared to his .302/.324/.420/.744 that he currently possess
Andujar has outplayed his contract and will warrant a significantly bigger one than he has now
which could have the A's thinking twice about keeping him around
especially for a team looking to go younger
he will be entering his age 30 season next year
Andujar could make a very intriguing trade chip at the deadline
the return that the A’s could get back may not be blockbuster level
but possibly getting some prospects or even some depth pieces could work in their favor
allowing them to get something over nothing in return for a player that they don't see as a long-term piece for them
the Pirates and the Twins have been mentioned as possible destinations for Andujar should he get traded
and with those teams vying for playoff spots
could make an offer that the A’s would be wise to accept
Nothing is guaranteed just yet and while the A’s do have options as to how they wish to approach the deadline
and while trading away a piece like Andujar may hurt for those who have started to grow fond of his game
building towards the future and trying to get as much as they can by dealing a guy like Andujar may come in handy in the long run
