It was a heart-stopping finish at the El Maulí stadium
Thanks to late goals from Álex Rubio and Fomeyem
Antequera turned the game around after being 0-2 down throughout the second half
the beginning came with a change in Javi Medina's starting eleven for Antequera
in which only four of the starting line-up were back from the previous game against Mérida
A very different Antequera from the previous matchday had control of the ball and play
but without clear determination to create danger in the defence
The first moment of danger came on Jero Lario's goal after a run from Antonetti that left Iván Pérez behind
The first half did not have a clear dominant team
Passing was not the main feature of the game
Two of the most important chances for Antequera came when Agus Moreno and Aspra robbed their opponents and Aspra tried to surprise the advancing goalkeeper from the centre
Just when it looked like the game was going to half-time
Antonetti took a corner kick for Sevilla Atlético
cancelling out a goal that would have been a real blow before the break
The second half got off to a good start for Sevilla Atlético
The first came from a great cross by Miguel Sierra that was headed down low by Íker Muñoz
Antequera didn't have the clarity of ideas to take the game
something they have suffered from in every match
The minutes went by until in a bad defensive adjustment
Antonetti stole the ball and crossed for Mateo Mejía to make it 2-0
Medina introduced changes in search of more pace and a bit of bite in the team
Antequera went in again and again to harass Alberto Flores
Chema Núñez got into the box with everything he had and pulled a pass back that Rubio put in after brushing against an opponent
Chema passed to Biabiany who crossed to Fomeyem who scored the equaliser with a fierce shot
but Biabiany saved it in a crazy finish that left Antequera in the promotion zone to play Real Murcia next week

Of all the soccer clubs populating Spain’s Andalusia region
That’s because Antequera CF has never so much reached the country’s second division
and comes from a city with a population close to some of its neighbors’ stadium capacities—around 50,000
Southern Spain is a go-to destination for holiday-makers from U.K
an English businessman called Mike Garlick went one better
acquiring the lesser-known team for an undisclosed fee
Antequera becoming a Sociedad Anónima Deportiva (essentially registering as a proper business) paved the way for the Brit to seal the deal
had reportedly been interested in taking over another Spanish lower-league outfit: Real Balompédica Linense
with understandable curiosity surrounding the move—Garlick
whose net worth is reportedly in the tens of millions of dollars
had overseen the Clarets’ climb to the bright lights of the Premier League and now wanted this more obscure challenge abroad
Garlick has a close connection with Burnley, now in England's second tier.
Alongside naturally growing a team, Spain has a clear appeal. Though the lower leagues don’t have the same publicity as La Liga, the country’s soccer caliber is so high and the culture so rich that scratching beneath the surface to get your hands on a third-level outfit, which Antequera is, is a clever ploy. The side can test its wits against names like Hércules, once a force, and a string of La Liga B-teams—whose youngsters sometimes break into the more distinguished senior squads.
Oh, and Málaga province is a lovely place to live.
Antequera is sitting pretty atop the Primera Federación, with 28 points from 15 games and a chance of winning promotion to the second tier. It’s not been all dominance, however. Despite losing just once, it’s tied as many games as it’s won (seven) and has regularly come from behind in matches, often scoring late.
Trained by young coach Javi Medina, the squad doing the business is mainly Spanish but also includes the 36-year-old Frenchman Jonathan Biabiany, who some may remember as one of the fastest players around on the FIFA console games, and Argentine number eight Tomás Lanzini, brother of ex-West Ham star Manuel.
With a wealthy backer, Antequera is not quite a Moneyball story, yet it’s aiming to build carefully from the ground up. Without spending any money on transfers during the offseason, Antequera has instead focused on infrastructure. In July, the local council subsidized the El Mauli stadium’s playing field with €200,000 ($212,000). Royalverd, the company taking care of the grass at La Liga sides Atlético Madrid and Real Betis, is now maintaining the surface after an agreement in August.
Antequera is still miles away from the standard of the more recognized teams in Andalusia, let alone Spain. But at a time where Sevilla and Betis are the only two representing the nation’s second-largest region in La Liga, it may not be too long before Garlick’s venture pays dividends and the team in green and white adds its name to the list of big shots in the land. It’s on an upward trajectory.

Last week, Indigenous leaders from the Ayllu Acre Antequera in Bolivia, together with the organizations Qhana Pukara Kurmi, Cultural Survival, and Earthworks, submitted a report to the Canadian mining company Santacruz Silver (SCS) ahead of its Annual General Meeting today in Vancouver
SCS acquired the Bolívar Mine in the Department of Oruro in Bolivia from the Swiss mining company Glencore.
The Bolívar Mine is on the ancestral territory of the Ayllu Acre Antequera, a communal land that Indigenous Authorities and families govern. The report submitted to SCS was authored by Cultural Survival and documents violations of multiple human rights at the mine site. The report includes documentation of violations of the following rights: right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent
right to health and to a healthy environment
and the right to belong to an Indigenous community
Mine workers on trucks approach the community in April

and community members report mismanaged mine waste
that gets picked up and blown around by the wind
Aside from the health and environmental concerns this presents
these impacts have serious repercussions for the local economy
as the community depends on subsistence agriculture and livestock
The soil and water contamination have impacted crop yields and livestock herds and have even caused some community members to move away from the area due to economic and health concerns
The mining company and associated mineworker unions have also attacked, threatened and criminalized members of the Ayllu that oppose the mine. In April 2024, mine workers attacked a group of women
maintaining a peaceful blockade to protect their territory from mining activities
are still unable to return to their homes and families months later
This was not the first time that community members have been attacked or harassed by mineworkers
The Indigenous Authorities of the Ayllu have also been criminalized in an attempt to stop them from publicly denouncing the mine
The letter also outlines how the company has completely ignored the right to Free
Prior and Informed Consent outlined in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
which both Canada and Bolivia have adopted
The Ayllu Acre Antequera was never consulted about the mine project
has not been adequately informed of the project and its impacts
and has thus not consented to move forward

The communities living near the Bolívar Mine deserve a clean and healthy environment and to live free of the threat of violence and intimidation

Antequera CF’s push for the Primera RFEF Group 2 summit hit an unexpected stumbling block this Sunday afternoon as they fell 0–1 at home to struggling Yeclano.
Despite entering the match on the back of two consecutive wins and with mathematical hopes of going top, the hosts lacked spark throughout a tepid affair at El Maulí.
Coach Javi Medina, serving a touchline ban and watching from the press box, made minimal changes to the line-up, with Jero Lario replacing the suspended Juanmi Carrión in goal and Agus Moreno slotting into defence.
Hopes of a dynamic start quickly faded as Antequera’s possession-heavy approach yielded little threat. The first half produced few highlights, with only brief flashes of danger from Biabiany and Chema Núñez.
The breakthrough came moments after the restart. Juanje slipped through Antequera’s back line and was brought down by Iván Pérez in the box. Víctor Olmedo converted the resulting penalty, narrowly beating keeper Lario, who managed a touch but couldn’t keep it out.
The goal rattled the hosts, who introduced fresh legs in attack (Longo, Jaime, Elejalde, Xemi and Iván) in a bid to spark a reaction. Longo went closest with a firm header, and Luismi and Elejalde both tried their luck from range, but Yeclano’s disciplined defending kept them at bay.
The defeat leaves Antequera four points adrift of leaders Ceuta, who won against Marbella on Saturday.

Antequera CF slipped to fifth place in Group 2 of Primera RFEF after a 3–0 defeat away at Mérida on Sunday in what is a major blow to their hopes of securing direct promotion.
Contrary to the final outcome, the visitors looked lively in the opening stages, with Álex Rubio surging forward and shooting just wide in the sixth minute.
However, Mérida didn't take long to go in front. The first warning came through a free-kick from Doncel that narrowly missed Juanjo, before, moments later, Raúl Beneit fired home via a deflection off Fomeyem after 12 minutes.
Despite the setback, Antequera continued to dominate possession, albeit without creating clear chances. Then, just ten minutes later, their task got even harder when Felipe burst down the right set up Álvaro Juan, who rifled home Mérida’s second.
The home side pressed for more before the break, with Doncel and Ismael coming close, while Antequera struggled to react.
After the break, both managers made several changes, with Siddiki, Biabiany, Longo and Iván Rodríguez entering the fray for Antequera.
However, Mérida maintained control and a cross from Javi Eslava found Raúl Beneit, who dribbled past a defender to slot in Mérida’s third goal just after the hour mark.
Antequera offered little in response, with their keeper Jero preventing an even heavier defeat with several strong saves.
Having at one point been strong favourites for automatic promotion, with just four games remaining, Javi Medina's side must quickly get points on the board if they are to secure a play-off spot.

Despite finishing the game with just nine players, Antequera CF pulled off a sensational 1–0 win away at Intercity on Sunday night to move to second in Group 2 of Primera RFEF, one point behind leaders Ceuta.
The visitors to Alicante struck after just eleven minutes when Luismi Gutiérrez reacted quickest to a long ball from Chema, before beating debutant goalkeeper Pol Freixanet for his seventh goal of the season.
After taking the lead, Javier Medina’s team surrendered possession and focused on containing Intercity. And despite dominating the ball, the home side failed to create clear chances and remained susceptible to Jonathan Biabiany's threat down the wing. However, the Antequera man couldn't provide an effective final ball.
Around the hour mark, the match then turned controversial. Referee Montes García-Navas issued a straight red card to Antequera’s Juanmi for what appeared to be a clean challenge.
Things then went from bad to worse in stoppage time when Siddiki, who had only recently come on, was sent off for a second yellow card, while Medina was also given his marching orders from the dugout.
But despite being two men and a coach down, plus Modeste and Mestanza both missing late chances, Antequera remained organised and produced a defensive masterclass to seal a heroic victory.

The Centro Solar Michael Hoskin in Antequera is named after the eminent British scientist and professor of History of Science at the University of Cambridge whose research led Antequera's dolmens to be declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2016
Hoskin began his academic career by studying Latin and Greek and went on to study Mathematics at the Universities of London and Cambridge where he read his doctoral thesis
The scientist would later spend more than a decade researching the orientations of the megalithic constructions found in the Mediterranean arch including the dolmens of Antequera
He analysed more than 3,000 sites and determined that the vast majority of them were oriented to the rising of the sun at the equinoxes and solstices
he discovered that there were two exceptions to this rule and both were in Antequera
where the megaliths are directed towards the landscape and not towards the sun
Hoskin's measurements determined that the Menga dolmen faces the Peña de los Enamorados (the rock that resembles a sleeping giant)
in the direction of El Torcal (the nature reserve with unusual rock formations)
It was his discovery that led to the declaration of a World Heritage Site by Unesco on 15 July 2016
Hoskin was presented with the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts awarded by the Spanish government in 2016
Antequera town hall named a viewpoint that bears a bust of him facing the sunrise and the Peña de los Enamorados
The monument and viewpoint were inaugurated on 7 April 2017 and Hoskin
travelled to Antequera with four generations of his family for the occasion

Antequera CF's winless run extended to six matches on Sunday after a hard-fought 2-2 draw away at Ceuta saw them slide further away from top spot in Primera RFEF which had been theirs for so long.
Despite creating the better chances, the visitors were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage following a second-half red card for Ceuta, who remain a point ahead.
Ceuta began the match strongly, pressing forward from the outset. Their early dominance was rewarded in the 13th minute when Kuki delivered a free-kick from the right, which Aquino headed past Jero to open the scoring.
Antequera responded positively, with Biabiany proving a constant threat. Their persistence paid off when a set-piece from the left caused confusion in the Ceuta defence. Goalkeeper Pedro López's attempted clearance rebounded off defender Cantero and into his own net, levelling the scores.
Ceuta almost regained the lead immediately, with Aquino testing Jero, who produced a crucial save. Minutes later, Aquino broke free on the right and squared the ball for Koné, who slotted home to restore Ceuta's advantage before torrential rain made conditions difficult.
After the break, Antequera gained control, aided by Koné's dismissal in the 65th minute. They took full advantage in the 72nd minute when Xemi powerfully headed in a corner.
Antequera pushed for a winner, with Siddiki going close and Longo appearing to be fouled in the box, but no penalty was given. Ultimately, they had to be satisfied with a share of the points.
Antequera CF sit top of their Primera RFEF group after claiming a stunning 2-1 comeback victory on the road against Betis Deportivo on Saturday evening. Luismi Gutiérrez’s expertly taken free-kick in the first minute of added time sealed the win, capping off a resilient display by the Malaga side.
The match in Seville began with Betis Deportivo in control, creating early chances. Antequera’s goalkeeper Jero was beaten just before half time when Pablo García fired home a left-footed strike from outside the box, putting the home side ahead.
Despite losing three players to injury during the match, Antequera fought back. Midway through the second half, Fomeyem was on hand to capitalise on a scramble in the penalty area following a corner to equalise.
The momentum then shifted as Antequera pushed for a winner and, in the dying moments, Gutiérrez stepped up to deliver a pinpoint free-kick that struck the post before finding the net, securing all three points for Antequera.
The result sees Betis Deportivo and Antequera switch positions, underlining Javi Medina's side's growing ambitions this season.
After leading Group 2 of Primera RFEF for several months, Antequera CF now find themselves in fourth place after suffering a 4-2 defeat away to Atlético Sanluqueño on Sunday.
Defensive lapses proved costly for the visitors, allowing the relegation-threatened hosts to capitalise and claim three vital points courtesy of an impressive hat-trick from Ceuta loanee Sofiane El Ftouhi.
The match began with an early display of brilliance from Antequera. In the seventh minute, Jonathan Biabiany made a dazzling run down the right before delivering a precise pass for Samuele Longo, who finished with an audacious backheel to give his side the lead.
However, the advantage was short-lived. Just two minutes later, Sofiane pounced on a defensive error to equalise from a corner.
Sanluqueño gained confidence and began to dictate play, though chances remained scarce. A mishit shot from Borja Vázquez was the closest they came before their second goal. In the 29th minute, another defensive lapse allowed Sofiane to convert a deep free-kick with a precise left-footed finish, completing the turnaround.
After half time, Antequera pushed forward in search of a response. Luismi Gutiérrez tested Samuel with a powerful shot before Longo found the net, only for his effort to be ruled offside. Then, in the 56th minute, Sofiane completed his treble, expertly finishing a cross from Vázquez.
Javier Medina's substitutions gave Antequera renewed hope, with Luismi Gutiérrez heading in a well-placed cross. However, their defensive issues persisted. Just two minutes after coming on, Jude Soonsup-Bell sealed Sanluqueño’s victory in the 67th minute, taking advantage of a disorganised backline to make it 4-2.
Antequera continued to press, and Xemi had a goal disallowed for offside, but the damage was done. Sanluqueño's clinical finishing punished the visitors' defensive frailties, leaving them with much to rectify in their promotion push.
Antequera CF extended their lead at the top of Primera RFEF with a 1-0 victory over Alcoyano in a tightly contested match at El Maulí on Friday evening.
The home side’s winning goal came in the 64th minute from full-back Juanmi Carrión, whose chest control and composed finish ensured Antequera’s tenth win of the season, taking them to 40 points.
Alcoyano pressed early, determined to test the league leaders. Mario Losada and Ferni had opportunities to break the deadlock, but Antequera’s defence, bolstered by the returning Iván Rodríguez, held firm.
The hosts struggled to find rhythm, missing injured forward Marcelo dos Santos, with stand-in striker Xemi failing to capitalise on limited chances. But eventually, midway through the second half, came the breakthrough. Núñez delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Carrión, who struck with precision to send the home fans into raptures.
Alcoyano rallied in the final stages, with Pastrana coming close to equalising, but goalkeeper Jero Lario denied them with a decisive intervention.
With this victory, Antequera remain firmly at the top and will look to continue their impressive form when they host Fuenlabrada on Saturday.
Antequera CF’s long grip on the Primera RFEF top spot was ended on Saturday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Atlético Madrid B. Despite taking an early lead, the hosts found themselves trailing before a dramatic late equaliser salvaged a point.
Javier Medina made several changes to his starting eleven, including Dani Clavijo replacing the absent Luismi Gutiérrez in midfield.
The hosts started strongly, winning a penalty in the fifth minute after Martín Pascual fouled an Antequera player in the box. Samuele Longo converted from the spot for his second goal with the club.
After conceding, Atlético B grew into the game, but clear chances remained scarce. Antequera continued to threaten, particularly through Jonathan Biabiany on the right flank. However, they failed to capitalise, and Atlético B took advantage of a defensive lapse when a corner fell to Boñar, who fired home to level the scores.
Medina adjusted his side at half time, but a defensive miscue led to a penalty for Atlético B, which Adrián Niño converted to make it 2-1.
With Antequera pressing for an equaliser, Biabiany’s late cross found Pol Roigé at the far post in the 94th minute, securing a crucial draw.
The result extends Antequera’s winless streak to five games, leaving them at risk of being overtaken by up to four teams by the end of the weekend. Now, they must turn their attention to a tough away fixture against Ceuta.

This represents "an opportunity" to be the gateway for the entry and exit of goods from southern Europe
"boosting the socio-economic environment of the region"
The authorities are committed to boosting logistics and connectivity
so that these areas can develop as the logistics hub of Southern Europe
they will configure common spaces that favour the integration of knowledge and the cooperation of the business and productive sector under the triangular ecosystem of seaport and dry port

a strategy based on the principles of environmental
The agreement means that the companies and institutions located in these areas can share R&D innovation services
carry out joint activities to develop and improve connectivity

After multiple rounds of negotiations, a Spanish unit of Jinko Power will sell four project companies behind the PV station in Andalucia to a Hong Kong-based subsidiary of Chinese hydropower titan China Huadian, the Jiangxi province-based firm announced recently.
The total installed capacity of the Antequera project is 175 megawatt peaks as it consists of four PV power stations with an equal capacity. Construction kicked off in April with an expected investment of EUR130 million. Commercial operations should start in late September.
This is not the first time Jinko Power has tried to sell the project as in March 2023 the firm said it planned to transfer the undertaking to Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust, an impact fund, but the deal fell through in December.
Unloading the asset should help Jinko Power lock down a buyer ahead of schedule and reduce risks regarding its exit, it explained, adding that the deal is not likely to be closed yet this year.
By selling the project, Jinko Power expects to make a return that equals more than 50 percent of the company’s net profit last year, imposing a positive influence on its business performance if the construction proceeds as planned, it said. Jinko Power earned CNY383 million (USD52.8 million) in net profit last year, according to its annual report.
The path to trimmed fixed assets did not spark a stock price surge as shares of Jinko Power [SHA: 601778] closed down 0.5 percent at CNY2.18 (30 US cents).
The Delgado Collection, consisting of 38 paintings by foreign artists and the three most important schools in Spain: Madrid, Andalucía and Valencia, have been loaned to the MVCA (Museo de la Ciudad de Antequera).
The Delgado family from Cordoba has been collecting works of art for centuries and first donated the painting of Santa Barbara by Juan de Pareja, a painter from Antequera who was a disciple of Velázquez, to the museum. They have now decided to extend this to a five-year loan of the paintings, which "give life" to the corridor on the second floor of the MVCA, as Alfredo Ferrín, the family's representative, explained.
Visitors who come to see the first-century Roman bronze, El Efebo de Antequera, the San Francisco de Asís by Pedro de Mena from the 17th century or the contemporary El Paquete Cósmico by Cristóbal Toral, can now also see works by artists who occupy the best rooms of the most important art galleries in the world such as the Louvre, the Metropolitan, the Wallace, the Getty and El Prado.
"It is a collection of some of the best, the paintings that appear in Art History catalogues and for which emperors, kings, viceroys, cardinals, archbishops and collectors have fought over," said the centre's director, Jose Escalante.
The MVCA expands its collection of large paintings of the churches and palaces of Antequera that are signed by "Court painters, native artists and artists from other parts of Spain which do justice to the town's baroque history," Escalante continued.
Antequera mayor, Manuel Baron, said that "Antequera is taking a very important cultural step", and explained that the town was becoming a place of reference in Andalucía and even throughout Spain.
The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Sunday, free of charge, from 10am to 6pm.
Antequera CF staged a thrilling second-half comeback to beat Alcorcón 2-1 away from home on Saturday evening, extending their unbeaten streak to ten matches and cementing their position at the top of the Primera RFEF table.
Despite a shaky start, Antequera managed to overturn a first-half deficit, with goals from Biabiany and Luismi Gutiérrez securing their third consecutive away victory.
Javier Medina's team had to showcase their resilience after struggling defensively in the opening half. Alcorcón initially dominated, with Kopotun and Rayco repeatedly breaching Antequera’s backline. Goalkeeper Jero delivered a heroic performance, making three crucial saves in the first half to keep his team in the match.
Antequera's defence eventually faltered in the 31st minute when Fomeyem handled the ball in the area, allowing Kopotun to convert from the penalty spot.
Medina’s tactical adjustments at half time proved pivotal: substitutes Xemi and Aspra brought stability and some renewed attacking flair, enabling Antequera to take control. Seven minutes into the second half, Biabiany equalised with a clinical finish at the back post to squeeze home Juanmi’s deep cross from the left.
The decisive moment then came in the 64th minute when Luismi Gutiérrez unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the box, beating Ayesa and finding the back of the net via the inside of the post.
Despite Alcorcón’s late efforts, including a missed header by Sergio Navarro, Antequera maintained their composure, neutralising threats and nearly adding a third goal on the counterattack.
With this victory, Antequera not only bolstered their title aspirations but also sent a clear message of intent to their rivals.
