has announced the launch of a new third-party liability (TPL) insurance product co-developed with Armilla AI
The policy is designed to address the emerging risks associated with the mechanical underperformance of artificial intelligence (AI) systems and models
including potential liabilities arising from their use
The standalone TPL product will be available to US-based clients with global territorial limits
Coverage will include losses resulting from AI hallucinations (false or misleading outputs)
model drift (performance decline over time)

Toronto-based AutoAlign has spun off from its parent company Armilla AI and has launched a firewall solution aimed at making large language models (LLMs) safer
the new spinout is being led by Dan Adamson as interim CEO and co-founder
Adamson will continue to work at Armilla AI
Armilla AI co-founder and chief product officer
Hafiz will serve at AutoAlign on a full-time basis
Founded in 2020, Armilla AI develops risk assurance products for artificial intelligence (AI) models. The startup has some notable backers, including deep learning pioneer Yoshua Bengio, Y Combinator, and Two Small Fish Ventures, among others. Armilla most recently closed $6 million CAD in seed financing in February
which brought its total funding to $7 million CAD.
Armilla AI grew to have two businesses operating under one roof: insurance and security
Armilla AI will now focus on the insurance component of its business
the company was advised to avoid any potential conflicts of interest—having one company insure models that they also secured—which is why AutoAlign spun off,” Adamson explained
“Now two companies can thrive and even work together.”
The company claims Sidecar can reject problematic responses and instruct models to make corrections.
Armilla AI first revealed it was working on AutoAlign in June 2023
web-based platform aimed at reducing hallucinations and harmful responses from LLMs.
Adamson explained that within the first iteration of AutoAlign
Armilla AI built out sub-solutions such as AutoGuard
aimed at protecting organizations against AI malice
“These solutions analyzed generative AI responses but did not interact with the model directly,” Adamson said
Adamson told BetaKit AutoAlign decided to “revamp” its technology by creating Sidecar

“By the time companies build AI with the proper security guardrails
they’re immediately obsolete,” Adamson said in a statement
“That’s why we built our sophisticated AI firewall solution—Sidecar—so enterprises have LLM security that is comprehensive
AutoAlign has also signed a cooperation agreement with KPMG in Canada. The company says Sidecar is already being used in KPMG’s internal systems. KPMG is also now including AutoAlign as an option to its compliance layer for its Trusted AI framework
“KPMG’s Global Trusted AI framework and approach to designing
as well as managing AI models and tools allow us to deliver powerful
trustworthy solutions to clients,” said Ven Adamov
partner and national leader of KPMG in Canada’s Risk Analytics practice and Trusted AI co-leader
“AutoAlign shares our goal of integrating generative AI into businesses in a responsible manner without compromising the effectiveness of this transformative technology,” Adamov added
UPDATE (04/23/2024): A previous version of this story stated that Dan Adamson would remain CEO of Armilla AI
Additional information from the company confirmed that Karthik Ramakrishnan will replace Adamson as CEO

Sparkling Royal Jewels From Around the World
06.04.2021 by thecourtjeweller // Leave a Comment
The final post in our week of articles about the Queen’s coronation jewelry focuses on a pair of items that have always fascinated me: the coronation bracelets
Here’s some of the fascinating history behind these symbolic gold cuff bracelets
British coronations incorporated the use of armills for centuries
The coronation service includes text calling the armills the “bracelets of sincerity and wisdom,” symbolic of the Lord’s protection of the monarch and of the monarch’s bond with the people
Pre-Restoration sovereigns wore a pair of gold bracelets set with pearls and rubies during their coronations
These were lost during the Commonwealth period of the 1650s
along with most of the rest of the coronation regalia
they had to be remade ahead of the coronation of King Charles II in 1661
The bracelets pictured above are the velvet-lined armills made for that ceremony
Rather than setting the new gold armills with precious gems
the goldsmith who made them decorated them with enamel instead (likely a cost-saving measure)
These enamel decorations feature several national symbols
(This was the period when British monarchs also regularly claimed the French throne
so the fleur-de-lis is featured in the decorations
Oddly enough, though, the armills don’t seem to have actually been used in King Charles II’s coronation—or in any other coronation afterward. Though the Royal Collection argues that the bracelets “were used at every coronation from 1661 until 1953,” other sources
“Despite the trouble and expense taken to remake the bracelets
they seem never to have featured prominently—if at all—in the coronation.” This may be due to a misunderstanding of the text for the service
Keay states that “officials carefully ensured the King received the long fabric stole called the ‘armilla,’ but in a confusion over terminology omitted to present the bracelets (properly the ‘armillae’) that had once been attached to it.”
Contemporary reports from more recent coronations appear to support Keay’s assessment that the armills were confused with the stole for centuries
the coronation robes were placed on display at the Imperial Institute
The Times wrote that the display of robes included “The King’s Supertunica
and Pallium.” Newspaper reports from King George VI’s coronation in May 1937 also highlight the issue
“There was the investiture by the Dean of the armill and royal robe
King Saul wore one when his reign came to its gloomy end in battle
is nowadays a stole and the royal robe corresponds to a chausible or cope.”
who as Earl Marshal was in charge of organizing the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II
sought to end the confusion and restore the armill bracelets to their rightful place in the ceremony
at a luncheon for Commonwealth journalists
the Duke announced that the armills would once again be incorporated into the ceremony
he said that the bracelets “probably not been used since the coronation of Edward VI in 1547.” The suggestion to add the armills back to the service had come from the Archbishop of Canterbury
proposed that instead of using the 1661 armills
a new set of bracelets should be produced for the coronation as a gift from the Commonwealth of Nations
and they invited the United Kingdom to join them in the present
The Guardian wrote shortly afterward that the new armills
quite plain except for two narrow bands engraved upon them
and for a clasp made in the shape of a Tudor rose” and “lined with red velvet.” (Several hallmarks are also imprinted on each bracelet
including a special hallmark for the Queen’s coronation.) The report also noted the existence of the 1661 armills
writing that the bracelets were “made for the coronation of Charles II but never used for a reason that so far has eluded research.”
the armills were presented to the Queen as part of the ninth section of the ceremony
after the presentation of the spurs and the sword
and just before the presentation of the stole and robe and the delivery of the orb
delivered the bracelets to the Archbishop of Canterbury
The Archbishop placed the bracelets on the Queen’s wrists
allowing Fisher to open each one before clasping it on the Queen’s wrist
The Queen adjusted the armill on her right wrist slightly as the Archbishop stepped back
“Receive the Bracelets of sincerity and wisdom
both for tokens of the Lord’s protection embracing you on every side; and also for symbols and pledges of that bond which unites you with your Peoples: to the end that you may be strengthened in all your works and defended against your enemies both bodily and ghostly
I’ve always loved the way that the shining gold armills look on the Queen’s wrists in the photos from the day
The velvet lining makes it appear that they’re magically hovering over her arms
I’d imagine we’ll see these armills used in subsequent coronations
as long as they fit the wrists of subsequent sovereigns
They certainly seem to have delivered long-lasting sincerity
and protection to the Queen for whom they were made

Foundation5-0: UD Almería Women extend winning ways as they notch up 5-star victoryThe Indálicas once again collect three points against Arenas de Armilla and climb up the table
Academy2-0: UD Almería B become stronger at home after beating Arenas de Armilla CyDThe UDA Academy graduates outclassed their rivals, showing signs of character, resilience and absolute confidence throughout the match. Valen and Loren scored the two goals
UD Almería 'B' jumped onto the Anexo grass with quite clear ideas and game plan, opportunities began to arrive, some of them very clear like a head-to-head with Valen's effort being denied by the goalkeeper. However, he couldn't score the goal in that first half. It was all square at the break.
As soon as the second period kicked off, the well-deserved goal award would arrive. Valen, who had been the most outstanding player in the first half, beat the visitor keeper following a great solo play. UD Almería 'B' managed to hold on to that result with effectiveness in the defence until near the full-time whistle, Loren slammed in the second and final goal that leaves the three points at home and brings the UD Almería lads closer to the play-off spots.
UD Almería 'B': Bruno; Álex Mendes, Paco Sanz, Varó, Aarón; Joan, Marsu (Abel. 83'), Cantón (René Pérez. 76'); Valen (Luis Lara. 69'), Hugo Neves (Keven. 76') and Rachad (Loren. 83').
Arenas de Armilla CyD CF: Adri Solera; Cabello, Velázquez, Zaka, Maldonado (Parra. 63'); Machado, Alberto López (Moleón. 68'), Dani Benítez; Juan Fernández (David Moreno. 68'), Isra Peláez and Marcley (Wilson Cuero 63').
Referee: Alejandro Noguera Moreno. He booked hosts Álex Mendes as well as visitors Velázquez and Zaka, the latter being awarded the red card following his second yellow.
Observations: Matchday 8. Group IX of Tercera RFEF. Game played at the Anexo Power Horse Stadium in front of 150 spectators.
Churros with chocolate are a classic that will never go out of fashion in Spain. However, that doesn't mean that churros can't evolve and adapt to new times and the tastes of new generations. At the Cafetería Churrería Azahara, located on Plaza de las Tres Cruces in Armilla in Granada province they are doing just that and customers can't get enough of their creations.
The family-run café has been serving churros for years, but what sets them apart from other places that sell the classic sweet treat they say, is that theirs are more "modern". Azahara Portales, owner of the business argues that while "chocolate with churros is a classic that will never be lost, everything is moving forward and we make them more modern."
The business opened its doors in 2020 and since then the team have been coming up with new combinations to keep the customers coming. The most successful is their churros 'wheel' with syrups and toppings of all kinds, from Oreo or KitKat, to different flavours such as chocolate and hazelnut, strawberry or caramel.
Ver esta publicación en Instagram Una publicación compartida de Cristian enmallao (@cristian_enmallao)
These churros have been a great success since they started selling and they are also trending on social media
"The truth is that we didn't expect all this
Many people come to the cafeteria with the videos so that we can serve them what appears in the post," explained Azahara
who admits that she "didn't expect so much success" and that she is "very happy" about it
We wanted to make different and more modern churros." And churros are not the only thing they offer
as they are now also making ice-cream and fruit milkshakes and are constantly adding new products to their menu
"Our idea is to keep innovating and offering new things
We want to adapt to the new generations and be a family café with something for everyone," she concluded

Paul McLean and Harvey Tutauha say they will be wearing their medals with pride this Anzac Day
Harvey Tutauha was ready to hand his medals back
he is preparing to wear them with pride this Anzac Day and is hoping to inspire and encourage other veterans to wear theirs too
The former Chief Petty Officer served in the Royal New Zealand Navy for 20 years
says for a while it was unclear with the award of the New Zealand Operational Service Medal (NZOSM) and New Zealand General Service Medal 1992 (Non-Warlike) (NZGSM 1992) whether he was entitled to the Veterans Super Gold Card when he qualified for New Zealand Superannuation (NZ Super) when he turned 65
realised the awards of the NZOSM and the NZGSM 1992 (Non-Warlike) with 20 years of service was not enough to be called a veteran
"I applied for the Veterans Super Gold Card
at the time it was pretty obvious to me I was entitled to it
but was declined and told I wasn't eligible."
He was frustrated and ready to send his medals back he says
"What was the point of them if they didn't mean anything?"
Harvey says the devil was in the detail when it came to the Veterans' Support Act 2014 and the new legislative definition for veteran status which included "Qualifying Operational Service"
Before this definition there had been no legislative definition
While that definition included numerous operations and missions
Those servicemen were sent to patrol the Indian Ocean on board frigates
thus releasing British Royal Navy vessels which were needed to join the Royal Navy task force tasked with freeing the Falkland Islands from the Argentine invasion
Then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher praised the Armilla Patrol
mentioning it by name in the British parliament
Harvey served on board the HMNZS Canterbury during her first deployment
patrolling the Indian ocean for two months
Been awarded the NZOSM for that service had presumed this made him a veteran
and eligible for the Veterans Super Gold Card
"I was pretty shocked to find out it wasn't considered to be good enough
I am proud of my service and had always seen that medal as the most important one of the medals I received for my service in the Navy
To be told it didn't count was a real kick in the teeth."
the official newspaper of the New Zealand Government
stated that service in the Indian Ocean from June 21
1983 aboard either HMNZS Canterbury or HMNZS Waikato
is now considered Qualifying Operational Service for the purposes of the Veterans' Support Act 2014
The then Minister for Veterans Ron Mark stated he was "satisfied that there was a significant risk of harm to those that undertook this service
Harvey and his peers can now access some entitlements and services specified in the Act and the Veterans' Support Regulations 2014 through Veterans Affairs New Zealand (VANZ)
it's for all the other guys who served during those deployments
they are coming up for eligibility for New Zealand Super and I want them to know that they're entitled to the Veterans Super Gold Card."
"These chaps" are Former Petty Officer Phillip Hammerton (from Kaitaia) and Former Leading Mechanical Fitter Paul McLean (from Motueka) who now both live in Hāwera
they served on Operation Armilla and were awarded the NZOSM and NZGSM 1992
Paul and Phillip caught up in Stratford recently
and the opportunity to share memories of their time in the Navy
The laughs were coming thick and fast as the trio of ex-servicemen shared their tales of times at sea
Their memories included tales of being in or near noisy engine rooms on board
They remembered being near various chemicals and contaminants
and it was only in later life they realised the impact on their health this had
"It was only when I was looking into having a test at the doctors
I realised I wasn't entitled to stuff other veterans were
Thanks to the efforts of Harvey and others in raising awareness of this
Harvey and all the others they served with
are now entitled to the Veteran Super Gold Card and the benefits it brings
it's about the country saying our service mattered."
especially the ones he received for his service in the Indian Ocean

There have been a number of reports of snakes appearing in people's homes across Granada province in recent days
notifying the competent authorities so that the reptiles can be captured and returned to their natural habitat
So far the snakes have been found in homes in Guadix
There have been three horseshoe whip snakes and the one in Baza was a ladder snake
On Monday 3 June a snake was found in an apartment block located in Calle Alfonso Laveran in Armilla and was removed by Civil Protection volunteers and on Tuesday another report came from Baza where the snake was found in the doorway of a house
It was caught by members of Granada's provincial fire brigade
On Friday 31 May the Ogíjares Local Police received a call from a woman who was "very nervous" after finding a horseshoe whip snake in her home
She was "frightened" and wanted to leave the house while the reptile was still there
Once captured the snake was returned to the nearby countryside
Three days earlier the same type of snake had appeared in another house in Guadix and several snakes have been found in Granada city in recent weeks
León explained that the horseshoe whip snake is "totally harmless"
He explains that they are a common sight in urban areas as they adapt well to inhabited places
if cornered or poked with a stick they coil up and go into a defensive position
They tend to hibernate in the cold months and are more active with the arrival of warm weather
although with the changes in temperature in recent years there are "sunny days in January when they appear"
April and May are the months when they are most active as it is their breeding season
"They can appear in houses for many reasons: because another species has chased them out and they are looking for another place; because they are looking for food; because they have been frightened by a vehicle; because they want to drink water and find a damp courtyard..
the ladder snake is "very specialised" in eating rodents
practically from the time they are hatchlings
calmer and almost only found to the Iberian Peninsula," said the expert
Raúl León stressed that these reptiles are "beneficial" for controlling the rodent population as they feed on them
the transmission of diseases transferred by ticks
but we have to think of them as just another animal
even if they are labelled as dangerous," said the biologist adding that they are shy and will slither away quickly if they see a human
we should close the door of the room and call the authorities
