The construction and development company Myramar has completed its urban development plan in Arroyo de la Miel
after 35 years of construction in the municipality
during which time it has built 1,615 homes
The final phase included the completion of the Myramar 2 development
a large private residential complex consisting of five phases and a total of 285 homes with one to four bedrooms
the final 85 homes have just been finished
of the total of 1,615 homes developed in this complex from 1990 to the present
343 were built under the subsidised housing scheme
"This iconic location began construction in 1990
transforming the area into a modern and welcoming residential setting
offering spacious homes in a prime location due to its proximity to Malaga and the main urban centres of the Costa del Sol," the company said
The Myramar 2 development is a space with gardens and walkways that connect the different phases
together with the spaciousness of the rooms and the decoration
"have been decisive factors for buyers looking for first-time homes"
which estimated its investment in this development at 15 million euros
While the construction company has now finished in Arroyo de la Miel
it is embarking on new projects in other parts of the Costa del Sol
where it is currently building the Myramar Costa complex
The first phase of 55 homes will be available in the last quarter of this year
with the second phase of 48 homes scheduled for launch this summer
This complex features over 9,000 square metres of green areas
Grupo Myramar has planned a total investment of over 32 million euros for the development of this real estate project
This project is in addition to future ones that the developer plans to undertake "in the short term" in Malaga city

the public water company under the authority of the association of municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol
has completed the work that had to be urgently launched before last Christmas
following a second rupture in 2024 of a high-capacity water supply pipe in Calle Medina Azahara
which caused flooding in properties in the area
additional work had to be carried out on two streets near the La Leala primary school and the Poetas Andaluces secondary school
The intervention at the roundabout involved the installation of a valve that now ensures the supply of drinking water from the reservoir to the entire population centre of Arroyo de la Miel
This mechanism manages any pressure changes that may occur
are the cause of these bursts in an already seriously damaged pipeline
Councillor for operational services and parks and gardens Juan Olea said that now this emergency work has been completed
the town hall will temporarily embellish this junction
which connects the avenues of Constitución
The councillor explained that there are plans for a new roundabout to be constructed on this junction at a later date
The roundabout is dedicated to Henry Norman Bethune
a Canadian doctor and pioneer of blood transfusions
Bethune helped evacuate hundreds of wounded people
and children in his ambulance in February 1937
as they fled from Franco's troops during one of the cruellest episodes of the Civil War
The plaque in his honour was unveiled in 2022
Multicultural Benalmadena will be celebrating the Chinese New Year on Sunday
Organised by the local council and the Asociación de Chinos Unidos de la Península Ibérica
the event will start at 11am and continue on to 3pm
One of the highlights will be the parade from the Arroyo de la Miel commuter station to leading to the Plaza de la Mezquita
Already waiting in the Plaza de la Mezquita will be stalls selling promotional products and information about the Chinese language and culture
The celebration also includes the participation of a large number of artists and dancers
about thirty volunteers and technical staff
Work is currently under way in some of Benalmádena's most emblematic areas
where infrastructure is being renewed and the paving is being replaced
the work in the whole of the Gamonal area is entering the final stretch as part of one of the most ambitious projects in the municipality
with a budget of 2.6 million euros to renovate a neighbourhood with a high footfall of both residents and tourists
the town hall is already planning the remodelling of another key area in the town
it is working on a project that will change the image of the area between the health centre and the Cercanías train station
It is one of the projects that the municipality has submitted to the new call for European funds in order to obtain funding
the area around the health centre and Calle del Nacimiento and Calle Orión
"We are working to put it out to tender for more than 730,000 euros
It is a project that will enhance the activity of the Arroyo de la Miel 'open shopping centre' with the improvement and expansion of the accessibility of pedestrian routes and the total renovation of the pavements," mayor Juan Antonio Lara
The idea is to give priority the pedestrians and encourage passing trade in one of the busiest areas of the municipality
"The installations and flooring of all the streets are going to be renovated
on Calle Mercurio (the street that leads from the health centre to Tivoli )
a new pavement will be installed on the left side
to extend the pedestrian area," explained works councillor José Luis Bergillos
an improvement of the façade of the railway station has also been suggested
as it needs the authorisation of Spain's national railway infrastructure administrator (Adif)
The project itself also needs the approval of Adif because the work would affect certain areas owned by the public company
the ramp and the pergolas in Plaza Adolfo Suarez would be affected
That is why there is still no date set for the start of the work
Benalmadena is set to host the Sabor a Malaga fair this weekend

A 24-year-old Colombian barber who was walking his dogs in Arroyo de la Miel on Wednesday morning was one of a group of people who helped foil an armed robbery attempt on a currency exchange office
Fabian explained how he left his dogs at a nearby shop when he realised that something was going on in the exchange office
"There was a lot of commotion and when I walked through the door I saw money lying around and two men holding the manager of the premises down," Fabian explained to SUR
but I caught the other one coming out in front of me and grabbed him as best I could," the young man said
The robber hit him on the head with the butt of the gun
"I tried to struggle with him to keep him from leaving
but he was much bigger than me; fortunately
someone else quickly came to help me," he explained
Police officers also arrived on the scene within minutes
seized a firearm and arrested the two robbers
not without a struggle in which one of the officers suffered minor injuries
and Mami Curl and Company are all playing the three-day Harley-Davidson Club meet in Arroyo de la Miel
As if the poor residents of Arroyo de la Miel didn’t have it bad enough with the racket caused by the constant buzz of Uber Eats mopeds whipping around all day and night, now the noise-beleaguered neighbours of Benalmadena will have to put up with three days of the roar and rumble of Harleys rolling through their barrio
Those who attend the event will not only enjoy live music
but also the Harley Davidson motorcycle exhibitions at the fairgrounds
as well as other vehicles to enjoy with family and friends throughout the weekend
In 2024, the Harley show packed out, with Harley-Davidson clubs from all over the country and crowds enjoying the early days of spring
The first fatal work accident of the year has been reported in Malaga province today
A 52-year-old man lost his life this Friday after falling from the roof of a seventh floor flat in Benalmádena
According to sources from the 112 Andalucía emergency coordination centre
the victim was carrying out painting work when he suffered the accident
when the first of several calls to 112 operators alerting of the incident in Calle Tuy
Eyewitnesses called for urgent medical assistance for the man
who had fallen some 20 metres into the garden
the worker died despite receiving medical assistance at the scene
The incident was reported to the health and safety authorities so that an investigation could be opened
Arroyo de la Miel sports hall was converted into a temporary shelter for those affected by the flooding
15 households from the San Marcos neighbourhood were temporarily ordered to leave their homes on Wednesday
where an extreme risk of flash flooding threatened the low-lying structures in the Bungalow Cristina urbanisation in south Benalmadena
The urbanisation is located in the middle of a channel from the Arroyo de la Miel River
The local police and council decided that the zone was in extreme risk of flooding
they took the decision to request that neighbours in the path of a potential flood
to ‘voluntarily’ abandon their homes until the threat had passed
nine homeless people known to be in the area were taken in for their own protection in the sports hall
It is not known if homeless people have been offered more permanent accommodation since
To shelter the temporarily displaced, many of them families, they were taken to the Arroyo de la Miel sports hall which was specially adapted to cater for them
In parallel, several roads in the town had to be cut off due to large accumulations of water during the heavy rains
the flooding was not as bad as predicted it might be
The church of the Immaculate Conception in Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmádena will hold an English-language mass at 10am for the local international community on Wednesday 25 December
The service will be offered by Father Gerard Daly
an Irish priest who took over the parish in 2014
“All are very welcome to attend mass with our caring community
We have chosen this time to allow people to prepare their Christmas lunch for family and friends,” Father Daly said
The popular priest explained that the regular Sunday mass will still be held at 1.30pm throughout the festive season
“I would like to wish all of our international community a very happy Christmas
Benalmádena has announced the details of the end of the year festivities that the town will host on Tuesday 31 December
which will include various performances and activities from the afternoon until the moment of welcoming the new year
The Costa del Sol town will again host its traditional ‘Fiesta Tardeo’ in Benalmádena Pueblo
which will begin at 3pm in Plaza de las Tres Culturas and will feature performances by the Kalima and Nuevo Día orchestras
The main New Year’s Eve party will take place in Plaza de la Mezquita (Arroyo de la Miel) from 11.30pm
and will include live entertainment into the early hours
Celebrations and popular traditions councillor Yolanda Peña said
“We hope the people of Benalmadena enjoy this part of the festive celebrations
we will welcome the coming year with caution and safety.”
The new McDonald's in Benalmádena opened its doors on Friday 13 December at 2pm
Located in the centre of Arroyo de la Miel
70 per cent of which are from the municipality
The new restaurant has two floors facing the Avenida de la Estación
The kitchen will be located on the ground floor and the upper floor will house the dining area as well as two terraces that can be uncovered at certain times of the year
according to the owner of the establishment
the business can accommodate 170 customers at the same time
who highlighted the "quality employment" generated for workers of all profiles and age ranges
an example of which is the manager of this new restaurant
who has been working with us for thirty years," she said
The new restaurant will operate with a lift system (dumbwaiter) that only three McDonald's restaurants in Spain have and this will be the first in Andalucia
customers will be able to order from their table via an app installed on their mobile phone
This new McDonald's will have an exclusive delivery window
"so that the riders will not have to enter the restaurant"
She highlighted the link between her company and Benalmádena and the whole province of Malaga
as this is the sixth McDonald's franchise they have opened in the province: two in Benalmádena
which employs some 200 people throughout the province
The downpour that took some Costa del Sol residents by surprise during the early morning rush hour this Monday is causing long traffic jams on the Costa del Sol's road network
A woman had to be rescued from her submerged car below the railbridge in Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmádena
"She was alone but managed to get out of the window at the last moment
I had to get into the water to save her and take her home," explained a local resident
with the water up to the roof and the boot open
The DGT traffic centre said that at around 8am the right lane of the A-7 at the Calaburras lighthouse in Mijas was cut off due to a large pool of water on the road
while the left lane was difficult to pass and had to be approached at a very low speed
"Cars have had to slow down to 30 km/h on several stretches because there was so much water on the road," a resident explained to SUR
Traffic reports show that there have been traffic jams of about three kilometres in both directions
The heavy rain which has been falling since 6am in the municipality of Benalmádena has slowed down traffic
The local police reported that the exit to the motorway in the direction of Malaga was blocked
and asked the public to avoid unnecessary journeys and to take extreme caution
The town council has already activated the municipal emergency plan and reinforced the police and fire departments
as well as the operational services in view of the number of incidents caused by the storm in the municipality
It is estimated that up to 66 millimetres of rain have fallen so far
most of the incidents are due to large puddles in different parts of the city
as well as the flooding of private garages and vehicles
There were the usual Monday rush hour traffic jams on other roads
especially on the Guadalhorce dual carriageway
the Ronda Este ring road in El Palo and the Carlos Haya tunnel
There have been some minor rear-end accidents
Benalmadena will host a variety of festivities to mark the Chinese New Year on Sunday 2 February
which will begin with a parade from the Cercanías train station in Arroyo de la Miel at 11am
The event will be held in Plaza de la Mesquita and will include dragon dance shows and entertainment
typical Chinese cuisine and a market offering traditional Asian products
which will require an investment of around 15 million euros
is aimed at attracting Chinese tourists “of high purchasing power”
The town hall said it would “become a calling point for the entire Chinese population in Europe”
Organised with the collaboration of the united Chinese and Spanish association
singers and dancers are expected to take part in the planned activities
which will also include workshops on Chinese language and culture
“Benalmádena is turning to this type of initiative
which will be particularly attractive for visitors from this country.”
It will include a Buddhist temple consisting of several buildings
along with a monastery and a space for meditation
a space in which the urns containing the ashes of the deceased can be buried in traditional Chinese style
Four private residences and three neighbourhood associations in Benalmádena
have benefited from a series of grants linked to a housing upgrade programme
All of them are located in two of the most traditional neighbourhoods of Arroyo de la Miel
specifically in Carola and on Calle Las Flores
The homes were built in the middle of the last century
Residents will only have to assume the cost of IVA tax
The project to build a zip line on the El Calamorro mountain in Benalmádena is progressing favourably
It is an initiative that involves a difficult bureaucratic process
as the activity itself will run entirely on land classified as undevelopable and of special protection
Mount Calamorro is a public mountain owned by Benalmádena town hall and managed by the regional ministry of agriculture
This means that the company interested in the project (Acciones Extremas S.L.)
must carry out the corresponding procedures before the council and the regional government grant authorisation for easement - a key step before obtaining the municipal licence
The first steps for the project began at the town hall in 2021
according to the municipal technical and legal reports consulted by SUR
a full council meeting held earlier this week approved the authorisation prior to the municipal licence
The ball is now in the hands of the Junta de Andalucía
which must analyse the environmental impact of the activity and determine its viability
Although little is yet known about the project
as Izquierda Unida spokesman Enrique Pablo Centella explained
the company is the same one that manages the twin zip line in Alhaurín de la Torre
with a capacity for 600 people and a speed of up to 100 kilometres per hour
The town hall's authorisation went ahead in the session with the favourable vote of the PP
the abstention of PSOE and Vox and the vote against of Izquierda Unida
and we oppose this project because we don't understand the need to lift the protection of our mountain range for something like this
Benalmádena already has enough tourist attractions and this is demonstrated by the record occupancy figures we have year after year," Centella said
The councillor for urban planning and tourism
said that this project has been under analysis for a long time
"First it was proposed to pass over the motorway and it was denied
but now it is being done in a different way
It remains to be seen whether it gets the environmental authorisation from the Junta de Andalucía: if the report is unfavourable
we believe it can be another tourist attraction
provided it has all the guarantees and protection," she explained
the top of El Calamorro can be reached by cable car
This structure takes users from the centre of Arroyo de la Miel to the top of the mountain
A journey of about three kilometres that takes approximately 15 minutes
the celebrations for Spain's victory in the Euro 2024 championship left Plaza de la Iglesia in Arroyo de la Miel without a fountain
The sculpture of a bare-chested boy with his arms raised
holding a vessel through which water was pouring
was completely destroyed by an act of vandalism
The matter was investigated by the Local Police
The town hall took a firm stance on this issue
"This landmark that we have enjoyed for years will no longer be something we can maintain because the damage is quite severe
and we will have to replace it," said the councillor for operational services
He also said that "the council will ensure that all acts of this nature do not go unpunished"
"it is an attack on the heritage of all the residents of Benalmádena"
which has presided over the square for decades
could not be repaired and so the council set about finding a similar sculpture to replace it
Barely a few weeks had passed when an elderly person from a municipality in the province called the town hall to say that he had a similar one in his house and that he was willing to donate it
Technicians from the council went to his house to inspect it
it was not installed in the Plaza de la Iglesia
The one in the Plaza de la Iglesia was finally commissioned to a specialised workshop
which provided the council with a sculpture very similar to the one that was destroyed
It was installed in the square and the fountain began to function again
What nobody imagined was that when it had only been in place for a few days
an investigation by the Local Police began and this time they managed to find the culprit
who had to bear the full cost of the repair
this time it has been possible to repair it
so that the fountain looks as good as new again

This popular event attracts thousands of revellers
along with an army of patriotic Irish visitors who come especially for the occasion
Organised by the Irish Association of Spain and the town hall
the all-day party will include traditional Irish cuisine and plentiful ‘black velvet’

A variety of live acts have been organised

and councillor for tourism and foreign residents Presi Aguilera attended the celebrations of the Chinese New Year in Benalmádena over the weekend
The festivities took place in Plaza de la Mezquita
and included dragon and lion dance shows and entertainment
typical cuisine and a market offering traditional Asian products
began with a colourful parade from the Cercanias train station that was organised with the collaboration of the united Chinese and Spanish association
"Benalmádena is a multicultural town and this activity is further proof of this
We need to promote any initiative related to this Asian country
which is fundamental for us because Benalmádena is aiming to be the European capital for Chinese tourists."
The plans include a Buddhist temple consisting of several buildings
a space in which the urns containing the ashes of the deceased can be buried in a traditional Chinese style
Plaza de la Mezquita will be home to all things Welsh on Saturday
The Welsh community is coming together in the centre of Arroyo de la Miel
possibly the most multinational community hub in the Costa del Sol
The Benalmadena councillor for Tourism and Foreign Residents
organised by the Welsh Society association
with the collaboration of the Delegation of Foreign Residents
All proceeds will be donated to Age Concern Fuengirola, Mijas & Benalmadena
‘We invite our neighbours and visitors to join a day that traditionally has a great atmosphere
with top-level musical performances and the best typical food and drink from Wales,’ Presi Aguilera stressed about an event that began to be held annually in the town since 2012
it is for a good cause,” the mayor said
as all proceeds will be donated to Age Concern Fuengirola
Live music at the events is non-stop all day
Since forming in 2012, the Welsh Society Costa del Sol have raised over €25,000 for local
and this year their chosen charity is Age Concern who provide help for older people in need
The Edificio Singular in Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmádena is getting closer to becoming a reality
twenty years after the project was first planned and after numerous changes in the designation of the land and the design of the building
located in the centre of the municipality and the only undeveloped site in the area for decades
is now displaying advertising from the real estate agency that is marketing the flats
A total of 36 one to two-bedroom flats and one three-bedroom flat
Prices will range from 229,000 euros for the one-bedroom flats
which will be between 94 and 115 square metres
and from 525,000 euros for the three-bedroom flat
The real estate agency expects construction to begin in the summer of 2025
so that the estimated completion date is the summer of 2027
first mentioned the name "Edificio Singular" and after that
announced a project to build three skyscrapers of fifteen floors each in the centre of Arroyo de la Miel
The opposition was on his back and even mobilised part of the local population
The issue was taken up by the Andalusian regional government
arguing that the excessive height of the future construction had no connection with the structure of the rest of the town
but there was no time to resume the colossal building project because the local council changed political orientation
the project was modified and the building capacity of the site was changed to a maximum of seven storeys
despite the fact that the intention to build has been announced on more than one occasion
the town hall gave the go-ahead to the building's façade design
a necessary step to advance in the bureaucratic procedures to obtain the building permit
which also envisages a potentially sustainable construction
both during the construction phase and once it is completed
the corner façade will be built with sandwich panels made of micro-concrete reinforced with fibreglass
"the exterior openings will be fitted with metal frames that will serve as solar protection
and the terraces will have vertical slats that will reduce direct sun's rays"
A vertical garden is planned at the entrance to the main building and it is proposed that all the interior divisions of the future dwellings
as well as the divisions between adjoining buildings and communal areas
will be built using prefabricated modular partitioning
"thereby reducing waste during the construction phase"
The project also proposes LED lighting systems
the implementation of solar panels and a fan-thermal system for hot water
Another important aspect is the planned installation of a system for recycling the building's grey water - the water from sinks
can be reused again in the toilet cisterns throughout the building
The construction of this building will mean the transformation of the centre of Arroyo de la Miel
on the side facing the Paseo de la Estación
A two-storey Mc Donald's is being constructed next to this building
a multidisciplinary artist based in Benalmádena
was struck by a thought as he drank coffee in La Tribuna
near the square of the same name in Arroyo de la Miel
pacing back and forth with his tray in his hand
Enrique thought of the key role that waiters and all the workers in the hospitality sector had played in the development of the Costa del Sol
those men and women" had built up the Costa
and yet "not even a plaque of recognition had been placed for them in any public space"
He thought that a solution had to be found to this problem and so he asked for an appointment with the then mayor of Benalmádena
He put forward the idea of creating a sculpture as a tribute that could be displayed in a public place
to come to my studio dressed as he was every day at work
and his tray with a bottle of wine and two glasses," said the artist
The sculptural assembly was completed with a table
on which the following inscription can be read: "In tribute to the waiters
who through their work have contributed to the development of the Costa del Sol." Next to it were two chairs
Bodero's idea was to create an interactive sculpture
allowing people to sit at it and even have a coffee at that table
"has become the most photographed street sculpture on the Costa del Sol"
"This image has reached half the world," says the artist
What few people know is that 18 years ago it was installed in that street and shortly afterwards it was vandalised
but for a long time now there has only been a table and one chair
Bodero explains that after a refurbishment of the pavement in that area
one of the chairs was not properly secured
Someone noticed this and decided to take it home
So much time has passed with just one chair that few people remember what the original work looked like
but now Benalmádena town hall has decided to restore it to its original state
The council has now commissioned Antonio Quesada
an artist responsible for many of the works of art displayed on the streets of the municipality
to create an exact replica of the chair that still remains
it has also had to request express permission from the artist
who must give written consent for the modification of his work
which will be installed before February this year
The 'Dana' isolated high level depression has manifested itself mainly in the form of storms that leave rain
But it also manifests itself in the form of strong winds
Malaga Airport has already measured a maximum wind gust of 54 km/h
such as the one that was seen this morning
off the coast of Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmádena
as can be seen in the video uploaded to the social media by the gardening company A&J Gardens
this meteorological phenomenon occurs when warm
rotating as the winds change direction at different heights
They connect with the sea and can be dangerous to boats at sea
Waterspouts are similar in operation to other phenomena
Outlet Urbano is happening in Arroyo de la Miel on Friday
the Outlet Urbano will fill the centre of Benalmadena’s Arroyo de la Miel district with marquees selling all the best products from local shops at unbeatable prices
The idea behind the event is to promote some of the local stores people may have missed or were too shy to walk into. With all the products on display in the street, everyone can try out their wares and get a better idea of the value for money and quality the town has to offer
There will be plenty at reduced prices too
as many shops will be preparing for their autumn/winter seasons and wanting to clear space in their premises
But it’s not just about the shopping

Cranes and bulldozers working on Avenida Gamonal in recent days have raised concerns with local residents
who have witnessed the removal of 80 palm trees
located in the Arroyo de la Miel district in Benalmádena
is part of extensive municipal works that started in November 2024
aiming to improve pedestrian access in the area
which has an investment of 2.6 million euros
is one of the most ambitious initiatives of Benalmádena
It will cover the renovation of eleven streets and 13,500 square metres of pavement
One of the objectives is to make the area more pedestrian-friendly
Although it was originally designed for tourism
the district became increasingly residential over the years
which means that there is daily foot traffic
no major interventions have been carried out for decades
According to Benalmádena's councillor for works
one of the necessary interventions consists of complying with accessibility regulations
which demand that pavements are 1.80 metres wide
Any narrowing of a specific area should not go under 1.50 metres
many of the streets are lined with numerous tree species that were planted in the past
the main axis that gives its name to the whole area
where 80 palm trees have been planted on the pavement (40 on each side of the street)
Some of them will not be relocated: they will remain on Avenida Gamonal
but in a position that allows 1.80 metres of unobstructed pavement
Other trees will be planted in the green areas of the district
The rest will be moved to the Albaytar park
The councillor stated that the whole operation is part of the work project
which is progressing without major setbacks at the moment
The only issue faced so far is a slight delay
as the works were expected to be completed by the end of May - a deadline that has extended to the end of June
Benalmádena town hall intends to carry out a comprehensive remodelling
but also of adjacent streets such as Capricornio
The transformation includes improvement of street lighting
This week major upgrading work began in the Gamonal area of Arroyo de la Miel
it will affect Avenida de Gamonal itself and the surrounding streets of Capricornio
It is a scheme that aims to renovate an area that has not seen any major investment for several decades
but also because it is a densely populated neighbourhood and as the work progresses
it will be necessary to redirect traffic in this area
all the sanitation and water supply systems will be renovated
All the green areas in this zone will also be redesigned
transplanting and removal of tree species that need to be removed or transplanted to a more suitable location" will be carried out
Pavements will also be replaced and redesigned
creating "more pleasant pedestrian access which will benefit local residents and improve quality of life"
The budget for these works is 2.6 million euros
with an estimated completion period of six months
Benalmádena town hall has announced that work has begun on the remodelling of the Jesús Cautivo park
located in the Carola neighbourhood in Arroyo de la Miel
which began last week and will last approximately three months
is part of the area of urban regeneration and renewal plan (ARRU)
which has allocated a budget of more than 150,000 euros
to which has also been added the contribution of 135,000 euros made by the town hall
which covers an area of 1,582 square metres
will consist of improvements to the Carola III-IV Mirador de Myramar residents' association kiosk and its surroundings; the extension of the stage for neighbourhood events; the renovation of the pavement
thus giving the park a homogeneous appearance; the installation of new LED technology lights; the replacement of street furniture and railings; and the addition of a children's playground
"The work being carried out involves a green area of great importance for the Carola neighbourhood
We aim to improve the quality of life and social interaction of its residents by transforming this space
providing it with new furniture and improving its infrastructure."
Councillor for urban planning Presi Aguilera added
which will consist of both the improvement of the existing installation used by the association
cleaning and painting the vertical parameters
and repairing damage caused by vandalism." She also pointed out that ceramic paving stones have been chosen for the square due to their durability and easy maintenance
A new campaign is being launched in Benalmadena to encourage shoppers into the centre of the town to do their Christmas shopping
as it will have benefits for consumers as well
There will be the ‘Win a Shop Window’ raffle with prizes valued at more than €4,000; the handing out of 1,200 free parking vouchers in the Pueblosol car park; free entertainment; and gift bags from the shops taking part in the promotion
Feliz Benalvidad, as the campaign is called, is also counting on visits from Santa Claus to each of the shops taking part in the Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmadena Costa areas, as well as Benalmadena Pueblo on December 27
As for the ‘Gana en escaparate’ (Win a shop window) raffle
tickets will be given out to those who spend €20 or over in participating shops
and the draw will be made by a notary at the beginning of January
The Councillor for Commerce gave details about the campaign, saying, ‘Park easily and buy nearby,’ which includes the distribution of 1,200 vouchers for 8 hours of free parking in the Pueblosol car park during business hours
This initiative aims to allow customers to park for free if they make their purchases in the associated stores of the central shopping districts of Benalmádena
The Benalmádena and Torremolinos association of relatives of dementia (AFAB) is continuing with its series of initiatives to highlight World Alzheimer’s month
which will include an informative talk and a theatre production
The association has also installed information tables outside its headquarters in Arroyo de la Miel
with the aim of giving visibility throughout October to this disease
which affects not only those who suffer from it
The activities will begin on Monday 30 September with an informative talk under the title 'Prevention Factors for Good Aging'
which will take place at the Anica Torres participation centre at 6pm
AFAB is also planning to stage Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap at the Casa de la Cultura on 15 November. The association is still finalising the details of the performance and further information will be posted on its Facebook page
Benalmádena town hall and the ‘open shopping centre’ association (ACCAB) have collaborated financially with the installation of five information panels at strategic commercial points in Arroyo de la Miel
include information about the businesses that can be found in the area and the products and services they offer
This initiative is part of a project to encourage residents and visitors to make their purchases in local shops and includes promotional bags with the slogan ‘Compra en Benalmádena - Ganamos todos’ (buy in Benalmádena - we all win)
The campaign was presented by the association’s president
“These panels serve in turn as a campaign to promote purchases in local businesses
raising awareness and informing the population that everything they need can be found in our local shops
The president of ACCAB added that the panels " bring together all the businesses that are members of the association
the design of the street map will be updated"
which covers an area of almost 122,000 square metres
has the official recognition of the regional government and was awarded first prize in the open shopping centres category of the Andalusian domestic trade awards in 2018

Benalmádena will hold the Marea Rosa (pink wave) initiative on Sunday 20 October
a march against cancer that will leave El Bil Bil castle at 10am in the direction of Puerto Marina
a fun afternoon with live performances will be held in Plaza de la Goleta
and president of the Benalmádena branch of the Spanish cancer association (AECC)
who said the march will raise awareness to the importance of research of a disease that affects a large number of the population
Registration for the event costs five euros
and can be made at the headquarters of the AECC in Arroyo de la Miel
The town hall illuminated some of the municipal buildings this Thursday with pink lighting to make visible its commitment to the fight against this disease
the AECC will set up information tables throughout the municipality
will “focus on the needs of breast cancer patients and survivors to raise awareness in society of what it means to live with breast cancer”
The studies that analyse the current situation demonstrate that two out of three women surveyed say they are afraid of relapse
while three out of four are afraid that someone in their family may have cancer
of the 18,340 women with breast cancer treated last year
42 per cent needed social care and 19 per cent needed health care
Research remains critical to understanding the causes of metastasis
as well as improving the quality of life for breast cancer survivors
the association has allocated almost 23 million euros to 92 projects that investigate some of these facets of breast cancer
All AECC services are free and the only on-call telephone number in Europe is available to patients and their families 24 hours a day
are at the end of their tether with excessive levels of noise pollution
The levels of noise for residents in the Arroyo de la Miel district have gone beyond the pale
and no one seems to want to do anything about it
For those living on the upper floors of blocks of flats in the neighbourhood
street noise is causing sleeplessness and stress and inevitably affecting health
sound has fewer obstacles to be absorbed or muffled by
and therefore if those noises appear loud at street level
they are even more amplified on the 8th floor of a 13-floor tower
One of the perennial culprits is deliberately noisy exhaust pipes
revving their motors at all hours of the night
Now that McDonald’s has opened down the road
it’s the delivery drivers scooting around all night that keeps us awake.’
‘It’s also older men driving around in open-top convertible sports cars roaring up and down
Then there is the issue of the Christmas additions to Plaza Pueblosol. The council has deemed it a good idea to project a videomapping display onto the Social Affairs Building
But they have also added narration and music at such a high level that it is deafening to neighbours living in apartments facing the square
‘There’s not even any audience most nights
There is also a Christmas fair for the children
and the fairground ride owners have loud speakers and play noises with no restriction on the volume levels they use
‘Why do they spend money on that thing when the train station stairs are a death trap that have needed repairing for ages
There is no denying that noise is part of Spanish culture
Many of her Spanish neighbours are sick to the back teeth of the situation too
What should be a quiet residential neighbourhood away from the hustle and bustle of the coastal tourist centre has become a living nightmare for those who were just hoping for a bit of peace and quiet
Are you affected by excessive noise in Spain
This is a common problem here on the Costas
I live some way away from bars and restaurants but due to the shape of the land the noise travelled some distance and especially during the summer months the noise is unbearable
the owner just laughed at me but I spoke to his wife and told her I will call the police and she turned down the speakers but again the police are not really interested
too many police officers get free drinks and food from these establishments which interferes in them doing their job properly
One of the oldest shops in Benalmádena - Deportes Trébol - will close in a few months
Owners José García and Isabel Villasana have decided to take this step as they retire after 40 years of providing sports gear for sports clubs
located on the corner of Calle Velarde and Calle Manuel Martín in the neighbourhood of Arroyo de la Miel
has played a key role in the development of sports in Benalmádena for decades
It was one of the first shops in the sector in the municipality
Deportes Trébol's management and marketing strategy demonstrates how loved the shop has become by residents and local businesses
The area in which it is located is neither popular nor central
the street is somewhere "you go if you need something specific
José and Isabel have relied solely on word of mouth as a promotional strategy
"We still work without a website or social media networks and I still do everything by hand with my notebook," said José
the shop has been supplying sports clubs in Benalmádena
Alhaurín and other municipalities in the province
as well as schools and other shops that buy from them
the four of us have always been united," added Isabel
two posters have been displayed in the window of Deportes Trébol
One of them reads: "Liquidation due to retirement
Forty years at your service." The other one features a drawing resembling an avatar of José
accompanied by the phrase: "This legend is retiring."
Given that their two sons have their own jobs
Isabel and José have decided to close and retire so that they could spend more time with their grandchildren and travel
the closure of Deportes Trébol marks the end of a chapter in the history of Arroyo de la Miel
The shop will remain open for a few more months
until the end of the sports clubs' season and until everything has been liquidated
which was previously a bar and a foosball business before becoming Deportes Trébol
Culture councillor of Benalmádena town hall Jésica Trujillo has announced that the recently renovated public library in Arroyo de la Miel has registered spectacular figures since it reopened last month
the influx of users to the library increased by 2,300 people compared to the same period of the previous year
with more than 1,500 people visiting in the first eight days of opening in December
This has come to show that this decision to renovate the facility has been a success and enables us to continue on this path in 2025," the councillor said
With a budget of close to one million euros
the expansion and modernisation work began at the beginning of last year with the aim of increasing services and facilities to its average of 1,000 daily users
making the library “a first-class benchmark in the province of Malaga and Andalucía”
The modification project involved the construction of a new study room on the current terrace of the meeting room
with adaptations on the ground floor and an entrance and exit independent of the rest of the building
“This type of facility is a space for the present and future
of opening to the public 24 hours a day and seven days a week," the councillor said
The most serious flooding incident of the day after heavy rain hit the Costa del Sol this Monday morning
happened in Arroyo de la Miel in Benalmádena
A driver was trapped inside her car in a huge pool of water when she tried to take the road underpass under the Cercanías train line
was able to get out of her car through the window with the help of a local resident who saw her precarious predicament
The water was up to the roof of the car with the boot open
"She was alone and climbed out of the window at the last moment; I had to go into the water to rescue her and I took her home," explained the local resident who helped the victim
who was in a state of shock about what had happened
there were several rear-end accidents and traffic incidents on the Costa del Sol due to the heavy rain
One day Betty Watt walked through the doors of the library in Arroyo de la Miel
Benalmádena and that was the start of something completely new
settled on the Costa del Sol and passionate about reading
She needed the library and the library began to need her too
and it was important to have someone who knew the language
who knew authors and understood the interests of the British community to decide which books were worth keeping and cataloguing on the shelves
That was the job Betty started doing as a volunteer and she did it for 20 years of her life
where she was in charge of keeping the foreign book section alive with new books as they came in
but not before receiving the medal of honour for cultural merit from Benalmádena town hall
she started something that others have continued on
maintaining the foreign book section of Benalmádena's libraries
"Normally they [volunteers] are older people
we had to close the libraries and they stopped coming
Some volunteers have left us along the way and others also return to their countries of origin when they are very old," said Maite Ortigosa
coordinator of the Benalmádena Library Network
One of these volunteers came up with the idea of creating a reading club in English
a French and Finnish book club were born in the same vein
they are known as Cercle de Lecture et de L'Historie in French (Reading and history circle) and Minna Canth in Finnish
The English speakers meet on the first Tuesday of each month
the French speakers on the third Tuesday of each month
while the Finns meet on the third Wednesday
it is unusual for public libraries to have reading clubs in other languages
at least in the nearby municipalities on the coast," Ortigosa said
who pointed out that all of the Benalmádena libraries "are alive" with many loyal attendees
It should be noted the neighbouring municipality
is home to one of the largest colonies of Finnish people outside Finland
the Nordic members of this club are not only passionate about crime novels
They like to gather around classics and authors from their country's literature
This October their reading was Sinun tähtesi täällä
And if the number in other languages is striking
so is the number of reading clubs in Spanish
Benalmádena currently has five linked to the Arroyo de la Miel library and three to the Manuel Altolaguirre library in Benalmádena Pueblo
Among them there is something for practically all types of interests
while one of the most recent is the comic book reading club Víctor Mora
The Felipe Orlando club has been meeting on the first Wednesday of every month since 2015 to discuss contemporary novels of different genres
Among the most successful is the club Aprende a leerte
coordinated by a psychologist and designed for people interested in self-help and personal development
This club has a group in the library of Arroyo de la Miel and another in Benalmádena Pueblo
Also in the town is the Maestra Ayala club
named after a beloved and famous teacher from the municipality
"In Benalmádena people read a lot and also like to share this hobby," said Ortigosa
who put the number of people who took part in one of the 11 reading clubs in the municipality at 632 last year
"They are all driven by a passion for reading
Often they are people who come to the municipality and want to meet other people
People don't come to a club just for literature
they also come to socialise and it's true that great friendships are made," Ortigosa pointed out
Flooding has been recorded in parts of Benalmádenan on Spain's Costa del Sol after 70mm of rain fell on the municipality in just four hours this Monday morning (28 October)
The downpours were concentrated in areas of Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmádena Costa between 2-6am
according to Storm Malaga on its X social media account
Lightning and thunder were experienced throughout the night
with the heavy downpours reaching their peak around 5am
According to data collected by Francisco Luis Guerrero
the intensity reached 274.2mm per hour at precisely 5.40am in the Torrequebrada area of Benalmádena Costa
Benalmádena town hall said the fire brigade was busy throughout the night helping out at various incidents caused by the storm
Most of the incidents were due to flooding of public roads
There has also been flooding in isolated dwellings with three people rescued after their vehicles became trapped in pools of water
Work is currently being carried out on some landslides and unstable walls as a result of the downpours
The latest weather forecast shows heavy downpours and storms could continue in this and other areas of the Costa del Sol
Malaga city and Guadalhource in the coming hours
as several parts of Malaga province will be on yellow alert for heavy rain from 6pm this Monday until midnight on Tuesday 29 October
residents of Fuengirola and Mijas were affected by a burst water mains pipe
which left some without water for only a few hours
In all cases the supply was fully restored thanks to emergency actions by the public water company Acosol
which is responsible for managing the supply
This allowed water to be diverted to the affected areas while the fault was being repaired
This repair is nothing more than a patch on a pipeline considered by experts to be one of the oldest on the Costa del Sol
and which continues to cause problems at various points with bursts that lead to infrastructure damage
street flooding and disruptions to the supply
In addition to what has happened in Fuengirola and Mijas
there was a breakage and flooding in November in Calle Medina Azahara in Arroyo de la Miel
and last July at another point in the same street
In all cases the affected distribution pipeline has always been the same
the incident happened in the early hours of 26 December in Calle Arquitectos
affecting the water supply in the municipality and the neighbouring area of Las Lagunas de Mijas
although the service was not completely cut off
a section of Calle Medina Azahara in Benalmádena remained closed
as the emergency works being carried out in this municipality following last November's breakage are still ongoing
one of the works being carried out is the installation of a valve to manage the pressure changes which occur regularly and which
are the cause of these breaks in a pipe which
Acosol announced its investment plan for the years 2025-2029
This plan envisages all kinds of interventions
including the renovation of infrastructures and facilities that were largely built between the 1970s and 1980s and which are now in a state of deterioration
the company has already said that the replacement of this pipe is a "priority" and that it will be one of the first works to be carried out
but for the moment there is no specific date or timeframe for this necessary complete renovation to take place
Benalmádena is a melting pot of nationalities and cultures and there was no better way to showcase this international diversity than the international Christmas festival held this weekend in the Plaza de la Mezquita in Arroyo de la Miel
From Friday afternoon through until Sunday evening residents and visitors enjoyed a full programme of performances in what is the 15th year that the event has been held
These ranged from traditional Spanish Christmas carols and flamenco
German singers and dancers and the Ukrainian Dúo Altair
Speaking at the official opening on Saturday
councillor Presi Aguilera welcomed the 14 participating countries and visitors and spoke of the diversity of the local population
"This is a very special weekend in Benalmádena
The centre of Arroyo de la Miel has become an international meeting point for all the foreign residents we have in the town as well as for all the local people," said Aguilera
"This is a way of integrating; knowledge of different countries
gastronomy and music is fundamental so that all local residents can broaden their minds to encourage the integration of all the nationalities who live in Benalmádena," Aguilera told SUR in English
"It also encourages us to travel to the different countries represented here," added the councillor
who thanked SUR in English for its collaboration in the event
Benalmádena town hall has announced that it will host a series of reading clubs and literary workshops at its network of municipal libraries throughout the winter months
The clubs will be held each week in Spanish
French and Finnish and are open to “anyone who loves to read”
The initiative has been launched in conjunction with the modernisation and expansion of the public library in Arroyo de la Miel
which is due to reopen its doors this month
Culture councillor Jésica Trujillo said among the planned activities is a discussion about Federico García Lorca's classic novel The House of Bernarda Alba; an English language reading of Maisie Dobbs
a novel by Jacqueline Winspear; while comic book fans will enjoy a discussion about Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman
Reading clubs in French include Cercle de Lecture et de l'Historie
organised in collaboration with the Costa del Sol French association (UFE)
while the club in Finnish will present works of the author Minna Canth
The programme also offers outdoor activities held in Plaza de la Cruz and at the poets’ monument in Parque de la Paloma
storytelling music and dance to spread reading among adults and children will take place
For a full schedule, see www.benalmadena.es
In the 1960s the Sofico Group (Sociedad Financiera Internacional de Construcciones) was founded with a clear objective: to build
Tourism was booming and the golden age of construction on this stretch of coastline was beginning
Everyone wanted to spend their holidays on the Costa del Sol and
Sofico ended up going bankrupt and became one of the great scandals of the last years of the Franco regime
in which high-ranking officials of the time were implicated
The former was sentenced to nine years in prison for the crimes of forgery and fraud
in which 1,750 flats are located and where as many families live
Many years had passed before the residents of these four communities heard from Sofico again
It was in 2015 when they received a notification from the company's heirs stating that the land on which the swimming pools
gardens and car parks of these four communities were located remained the property of the company
instead of belonging to the residents who had been using and caring for them for decades
A legal battle then began between the new Sofico and the owners
which to date has only been unpleasant for the latter
The company has obtained a favourable ruling from the judge both in the first instance and in the provincial court
and now the case is heading for the Supreme Court
where the neighbours hope to have one last chance
If they do not succeed in asserting their rights over the land
they face the loss of 2 hectares of land currently valued at twelve million euros
This court battle has opened up another even more bloody battle
but on a different scale: that of some of the owners of these communities against the lawyers who have represented them until now
as well as against the presidents and administrators
"The land is registered in the land registry in the name of Sofico
but there are documents that prove that the owners bought it when they purchased their homes
The problem is that the lawyers who have so far represented the four communities have not made use of these documents throughout the process," explained Bernardo Gómez Corraliza
owner of two of these flats (bought by his parents when he was still a child)
a lawyer by profession and professor of civil law
A significant number of the residents are fighting for sufficient representation to be able to convene owners' meetings and approve a change in legal representation
so that Gómez Corraliza now takes up the cause
given that many of the owners are foreigners and it is the administrators who have their contacts and proxy votes
but that does not mean that it is not theirs
The normal thing would have been for those papers to be the first to be presented to the court
but it was not until last year that they were used and it was too late in the process," said the lawyer
it was the residents who had to landscape it
We have been swimming in those pools for thirty years
If we don't get something in the Supreme Court we have no other choice
we will have to pay Sofico to recover the land
yellow or green - which colours paint the map of Benalmádena
The town hall has recently released the results of a study carried out by municipal officers on tourist accommodation in the municipality
This study is the key to determining measures the council can impose in the short term to legally limit this type of accommodation
of which 7,542 are legally registered as tourist accommodation - only 15% of the total
The question is how these properties are distributed
According to the map drawn up by the council
only a few areas of the municipality are coloured red
this being the colour that marks the areas under most pressure due to the very high percentage of tourist housing
the Benal Beach complex and the Gamonal area
All of them are places that were practically born as tourist areas and have remained so until today
tourist accommodation in the main urban centres
Benalmádena Pueblo or part of Benalmádena Costa is low
This means their presence cannot be affecting the price of rent for residents in the area
Therefore it is not recommended to impose measures to limit tourist housing in these areas
the prospect of measures in some areas has served up some controversy
is currently showing a map of the municipality
and claims that based on data from the Spain's national institute of statistics (INE)
tourist housing reaches high percentages in almost the entire locality
except in very specific areas such as around Calle Las Flores and the La Leala industrial estate
This sparked debate at the last council meeting with the Socialists presenting a motion asking the council to take concrete measures to regulate and limit the growth of tourist flats in the town and aid to encourage residential rental
with a considerable reduction in sales and long term rentals which have led to a rise in prices
Neighbouring municipalities such as Fuengirola and Torremolinos have already taken measures in this respect," said Socialists councillor María Isabel Ruiz
She also demanded the convening of the sectorial housing council
which has not met since the start of June and which is the body where decisions regarding these issues are agreed prior to a council meeting
1,076 tourist accommodation places have been registered in the municipality
that is as if a macro hotel had been built in four months," IU councillor Pablo Centella pointed out
"Tourist flats do not generate employment," he added
but we do not want to take hasty measures or take measures contrary to the law," responded councillor for housing José Luis Bergillos
who also called on councillors not to "scaremonger"
that is a lie," he said while criticising the Socialists' map and said it "lacked in rigour and professionalism" and was "full of errors on such a serious issue"
Bergillos pointed out there are areas such as the port execution unit which has a saturation of 60% of tourist flats compared to Nueva Torrequebrada which has 16% or Arroyo de la Miel
"In the classic tourist areas there is very high saturation
and therefore the same yardstick cannot be used," he said
Benalmádena has announced a new edition of the campaign ‘Your purchase has a prize’
which has been launched by the regional ministry of employment and whose objective is to promote local commerce
Shoppers who make purchases in retail businesses in what is called the Centro Comercial Abierto (open shopping centre) in Arroyo de la Miel will be entered into a prize draw
Yolanda Peña and the president of the local traders’ association (ACEB)
have toured some of the streets of the commercial area in Arroyo de la Miel to visit some of the businesses involved in the initiative
"The Junta de Andalucía maintains its commitment to continue supporting ordinary commerce
which is made up of family businesses that give their own character and provide the idiosyncrasy of a town
with this campaign we intend to bring to the public the values that make up an open shopping centre and what distinguishes them from large commercial areas: personalised advice
proximity to the customer and the quality of their products,” Sánchez Sierra explained
the councillor thanked the delegate "for the support and constant involvement with the needs of Benalmádena"
also emphasising the "magnificent work" carried out by the ACEB and the open shopping centre of Benalmádena
Encouraging everyone to participate in this campaign
we help to publicise and maintain our business fabric.”
it was stressed that the recent reopening of the Pueblosol car park will directly influence this open shopping centre
facilitating parking in the area at one euro a day during business hours
"All these measures give us greater competitiveness," the councillor said
According to the latest data provided by the Junta's institute of statistics and cartography of Andalucía (IECA)
there are 1,212 commercial establishments in the municipality
making it the eighth municipality with the most commercial businesses in the province
Temperatures are expected to rise today after the strong storm hit Malaga province on Monday
which triggered an amber 'serious risk' alert in some areas and brought up to 110mm of rain
Spain's state weather agency (Aemet) warned people of heavy downpours and hail that were expected to affect Malaga city
the western strip of the Costa del Sol and the Guadalhorce Valley
today Aemet forecasts a rise in the maximum temperature on the coast of up to 18C and 20C over the weekend
premises and ground floors in different parts of the coastal strip
The most serious incidents involved people who were trapped in their cars and homes
million cubic metres were held in Malaga's reservoirs yesterday
although only La Concepción and Guadalteba saw gains
Benalmádena's fire brigade and the Local Police force rescued an elderly woman who showed signs of hypothermia after her home in the Windsor building in the marina was flooded
the woman was unable to get out due to her reduced mobility
The fire brigade also rescued two people who had become stuck in lifts
In the early hours of Monday, a woman became trapped inside her car near El Pinillo station in Torremolinos
after the vehicle entered a huge pool of water in the Cercanías train line underpass
She was able to leave the car with the help of a local resident who witnessed the scene
The water covered the vehicle up to the roof
"She was alone and got out of the window at the last moment; I had to get into the water to hold her and accompany her home," said the resident

while 30km away there will hardly be anything
compared to Malaga city," said Escudero in his SUR blog 'Tormentas y Rayos' in SUR
"Look at the difference between the airport (32mm) and the port of Malaga (13)
which are only a few kilometres away as the crow flies."
The bad news was that the storm was mainly localised on the coastal strip
which means that the reservoirs didn't benefit much
contributed to a very slight improvement in the water reserves
calls from across Malaga province were received by the 112 Andalucía emergency service control room
all concerning flooding of streets and roads

"The water completely covered the wheels of the cars and some people were left standing in the middle of the pool of water
We were very scared because we didn't know if it would reach the engine
or if the water would sweep us away," said Ivone
"I have a transport company and the Mijas area is in a state of disarray at the moment - the exits are closed and my vans are stuck in heavy traffic..
It's impossible to get anywhere near Miramar," said Andrea
who shared their experience on social media networks
had to wait for more than an hour before they could move
The Facebook group 'Alertas de tráfico A-7 Málaga Marbella' collected the testimonials of those who were stuck in the traffic jam
"I've been stopped for an hour in direction of Marbella
does anyone know if it's an accident or something?" asked one user
"There are several cars stuck in the middle of the pool of water on the road," others stated
Heavy rains also caused a traffic jam in Benalmádena
The Local Police force reported that the exit to the motorway in the direction of Malaga had been blocked and asked the public to avoid unnecessary journeys
They also cut off access to the town centre of La Cala de Mijas for a short period of time

Many spaces at the new Pueblosol underground car park
remain empty on most days with the site incurring financial losses
Its opening in the centre of Arroyo de la Miel in June was a milestone as the car park was planned in the year 2000
Opening it resulted in nearly 700 parking spaces made available in an area where it is usually difficult to park
and at the price of just one euro per day during business hours
the car park which is of considerable size
The council took on the entire cost of refurbishing the car park after several years of it being shut
This is in addition to the annual rent paid to Tremon
the company which owns Tivoli and which came to an agreement with the town hall to open the Pueblosol underground car park
The council pays Tremon 254,000 euros per year for the car park
the public company in charge of its management
the income from the car park for ten days in June and the months of July
which is when we have the highest influx of tourists and visitors to the town
the Pueblosol car park has had losses of more than 20,000 euros
which we are already predicting is going to be quite complicated to maintain the carpark," said PSOE spokesperson in Benalmádena
The Socialists have always been against the opening of the car park under the conditions agreed by the local Partido Popular council
because it has been rented at a price "above the market price"
The council has always said that its aim is to imitate the model implemented by other municipalities on the Costa del Sol
with car parks in the central area where vehicles can be parked for one euro per day during business hours
The Pueblosol underground car park is only a few metres away from the Tivoli esplanade
and which for years has been providing a service to all those who need to go to the centre of Arroyo de la Miel
This esplanade is usually completely full at any time of the day
When the opening of the Pueblosol car park was announced
the opposition warned that with the Tivoli esplanade
They went so far as to suggest that the opening of the car park could mean the closure of the esplanade
a plot of land that was widely desired due to its size and location
The Socialists even brought a motion to a council meeting demanding a commitment from the corporation that the car park would not be closed or used for other purposes
