Another three points as FC Barcelona were made to work hard for their victory away to Levante Badalona (0-2). Marta and Alexia scored the goals in the second half to confirm victory and maintain a four point lead at the top of the league ahead of Real Madrid.
It wasn't easy. After qualifying for the Champions League final, a much changed FC Barcelona side had to dig deep to break the deadlock against a combative and defensive Levante Badalona. Chance creation was difficult, with a Salma shot and a Marta Torrejón header not enough during a first half when both María and Cata Coll had little to do.
Pajor, Alexia, and Aitana made the difference when they came on, but none of them were involved in the opener. Claudia Pina put in a superb corner, and Patri and Marta did the rest with two headers.
No change even at 0-1 as Pere Romeu's side dominated possession, but the woodwork and home keeper prevented further goals, despite Pajor and Alexia's best efforts.
Reward came in the final push, Alexia scoring a penalty to seal the win. A tough match that brought three more points to make the lead four in the league table, ahead of Real Madrid, with another match chalked off as the season draws to a close. Next up, a home match at the Estadi Johan Cruyff against Deportivo Abanca (4 May, kickoff 5.30pm CEST).

Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds is wrapping up his week in Spain with the Bears
Check out Edmunds' postcard from his final stop
and hear about his experience teaching American football
I'm checking back in from Badalona on our final day of Mini Monsters clinics in Spain
It's been such an incredible week experiencing a new culture and all of the beautiful cities
I was taking the train from Madrid to Valencia
Valencia was definitely more of a beach vibe
My fiancée joined me there and when we got to the city
burning of the fires and everything like that
It was a coincidence that our hotel was right beside one of the neighborhoods that was celebrating
she was able to reminisce on her time there and really just take that culture back in
Experiencing a city like that together was special – trying new foods
enjoying life and taking it one day at a time
It's been great to share these memories with her because as we all know
especially as we get back to football season
I think our favorite part overall is the food
I don't think I've had one bad meal here and I'm not even exaggerating
I've definitely been trying different Spanish dishes while also having more standard foods like steak or fish
We've been to some great spots and all the food has been fire
Now we're wrapping up the trip in Badalona
There was some rain the first couple days here
I'm excited to explore the city a little bit more before we leave
I've had the best time helping out with our Mini Monsters clinics
jump around and have fun is something that I appreciate because that's what it's supposed to be
you're at a life stage where there shouldn't be a stress factor
It's the best time in your life because you can be out here with your peers
express your passion and express your personality through sports
Running around and having fun with the kids here has definitely brought out the kid in me
but to be able to bring out your inner child is therapeutic
Teaching American football in a different country to kids who may or not have played it before has been a learning experience for me as well
Breaking down fundamentals or skills I learned early in life
ones that I don't even think about an a daily basis now
I feel like I'm re-learning the sport that I've been playing my entire life
because the moment you stop learning is the moment you stop improving
Perfecting your craft is always a constant journey
It's a constant quest to working toward a certain point and once you get there
Being able to teach kids the small details of the sport is so refreshing
I'm just having an amazing time travelling the world
experiencing new cultures and appreciating the fruits of our labor
I say ours because I don't do any of this by myself
That's the reason why I always like to bring family along on these trips
because it feels better to take in the experience with people you love
I'm grateful for our Bears staff here that has been with me on this trip and in the United Kingdom last year
It's always fun to build new memories with them as well
because we all work hard and sometimes it's OK to take a step back and enjoy this time
it doesn't feel like work because we're having so much fun
I'm having fun teaching this sport and seeing parts of the world I don't know if I'll ever have a chance to see again
Thanks for following along on our trip to Spain and I'll see everyone back in Chicago soon

Barça Women have defeated Levante Badalona 6-0 at the Estadi Johan Cruyff
their second by the same scoreline in 2025
as Pere Romeu's side continue to set the pace in the Liga F
It was Barça's first game in front of their fans at the Estadi Johan Cruyff in 2025
There was a lot of pre-match excitement and the blaugranes didn't disappoint in the first Catalan derby of the calendar year
The path to victory was laid early when Vicky made it 1-0 after 10 minutes
the young forward there to prod in the rebound after Maria saved from a Pajor cross-shot
The blaugranes were in control and the side from Badalona were having trouble making inroads to generate any threatening situations
The second goal came after 24 minutes and it was a special one
Both Ballon d'Or winners combined – Alexia with a lovely through pass to Aitana who ran clear of the Badalona defence to slot in
That goal made it 500 scored at the Estadi Johan Cruyff
an outstanding feat considering that the stadium was only inaugurated in 2019
Still time for another goal before half-time
a period of possession ended with Alexia again threading a ball through for the onrushing Rolfö who steered the ball across from the left for Pajor to score (3-0
a short corner routine saw Aitana cross and the Swedish international smashed a rebound into the far side of the net (min 56)
but with just under a quarter of an hour left on the clock
substitute Walsh slid a lovely long pass along the pitch between two Badalona players to set Pajor free in the inside right channel
The Pole then crossed and found Salma at the far post to slot in the fifth (min 77)
The final goal came from a stooping header by Kika after a cross was curled in expertly by substitute Brugts from the right after a good switch of play by Engen (min 87)

This Monday, the so-called "antennas case" begins in court, with Badalona mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol, of the conservative People's Party (PP), as the main defendant.
The case stems from Albiol’s first term as mayor (2011-2015), during which, as head of Urban Planning, he authorized the allegedly illegal installation of mobile phone antennas on the site of the city's local police headquarters.
Prosecutors accuse him of urban and environmental malfeasance and are seeking a sentence of nearly three years in prison, ten years of disqualification from office, and a €9,000 fine.
Albiol’s trial comes at a politically strong moment for him, following his landslide reelection in 2023, where his party secured 18 of 27 council seats.
However, a conviction could force his immediate removal from office, casting uncertainty over Badalona’s political leadership and the immediate future of the local administration.
Albiol told reporters outside the court on Monday morning that “all the facts, all the evidence, and what happened and what didn’t happen will be put on the table” in the trial.
The mayor appeared calm before entering the court, but did not want to assess the case “out of respect for the court.”
The events date back to 2012, when Vodafone requested permission to install an antenna on public land. According to the prosecution, Albiol and senior officials approved the installation despite knowing the site was not legally zoned for such use.
Furthermore, no building permits, technical evaluations, or environmental licenses were issued. A second antenna, installed by Movistar later that year, also lacked authorization.
Both antennas were in operation for six years, until 2018.
Prosecutors request two years and ten months in prison, disqualification from public office for a decade, and fines of €9,000 each for Albiol and the officials involved, as well as demands that Vodafone and Movistar pay outstanding municipal taxes and electricity fees totaling over €25,000.
The trial will run for two weeks at Barcelona’s Provincial Court and will hear testimony from over 30 people, including police officers, municipal staff, and technical experts.

Alba Redondo secures the win in the last-minute remontada
Real Madrid won against Levante Badalona with a result of 3-2 in a dramatic fashion on matchday 19 of Liga F
Below are my views and thoughts on the match
Levante Badalona were in a 5-4-1 with a tight space between their two lines
It was difficult for Las Blancas to get a pass to the forward and the main idea of the game seemed to be sending in crosses and long balls that almost never reached anyone at the front
With both Yasmim and Shei as starting fullbacks who both gravitate toward the inside
combined with Linda Caicedo on the left wing who does the same
it wasn’t easy to create the fast-paced triangles to break their low block
They're in a 5-4-1 with two tight lines, no wonder our passes can't reach the forward line. I'm not sure that we have this figured out. Where are the quick combinations in build-up when you need them? pic.twitter.com/ZmJSupZpFU
Another interesting occurrence were the crosses being sent to Alba Redondo
who shouldn’t be that sort of a target in the box when Bruun is more of a profile for this kind of an idea
Signe Bruun got subbed on and it could be seen from her first few minutes on the pitch that she was a much better person for this job
Olga’s first cross on the pitch easily reached Bruun in the box which could’ve been a goal if the Dane had received it better on her head
Similar with a chance led by Athenea who sent in a ground cross to the striker
it still wasn’t Bruun who got that winner in
Real Madrid definitely dominated the stats
but it was Badalona who took the lead in 12’ after a penalty was awarded after a three-way clash inside the penalty area
Las Blancas had issues connecting a few passes in a row and they finally managed to break their low block in the last 5 minutes of the first half

The new stadium will be shared with two more clubs
CF Badalona SAD and FF Badalona were there before
and their well-known men’s teams will need to train and play there as well
but there is no news about them as things stand
Levante’s youth teams will not move to the new ground but will stay in Sant Joan Despí
changing just the colours — blue instead of red and Badalona’s flag on the left side — to align their identity and refer to the new city
Behind this change, there is a large investment. According to Marc Gironés reporting for Diari ARA, Michelle Kang was about to buy the club. The latest information says negotiations are ongoing between the representatives and Mercury13 to buy their second club

A notable 2025 NBA Draft prospect has stayed though
and he’s poised to take on a potentially large role for an 18-year-old in EuroCup and Liga ACB competition
Croatian forward Michael Ruzic stands at 6-foot-10
He will still be 17 for a few weeks when the 2024-25 ACB season gets underway in Spain
but that’s unlikely to keep him off the court in any way
Ruzic appeared in 26 ACB games and made 13 starts
He averaged 4.9 points and three rebounds per game and offered true value as a stretch four connecting on 37 percent of his 3-point attempts
Ruzic joined the senior team in November and it was only up for him from there
Ruzic’s current skillset is fairly malleable
Stretch bigs who are happy to set screens and provide value on the glass aren’t easy to come by
He will fit nicely next to either of their towering centers - Ante Tomic and Artem Pustovyi - next season
Both these bigs like to catch the ball high and survey for quick layups
or teammates who they can hit with a quick pass on a cut or catch and shoot three
While Ruzic is skilled - a confident shooter
and capable of putting the ball on the floor in quick attacks himself - he isn’t afraid of the dirty work aspects of the game
relies heavily on their guards to create out of pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop offense
or dribble handoffs and Ruzic is happy to set as many screens necessary to help his teammates get downhill and create an advantage
Opposing defenses will dread having to guard any one of Guillem Vives
or any one of Badalona’s primary ballhandlers as they’ll be well aware it will require running through multiple screens from the like of Tomic
A key difference maker in just how much Badalona will be able to trust Ruzic this season will be on the defensive end
Ruzic has spent a lot of his youth-level play guarding opposing centers
that responsibility goes to the tested sturdy bodies of Tomic and Pustovyi
who tend to drift out more to the perimeter
and that’s not an area where he looked comfortable last season
letting them easily get jumpers off over him
he got blown by and conceded layups with ease
Ruzic showed he was already capable of playing a consistent role in ACB and EuroCup competition last season
and could easily take that to another level for the 2024-25 season
Improvement on the defensive end could go a long way toward making him a fringe starter-level player
which is not an area many reach at this age
A world of opportunities would await him at the end of the season such as entering the NBA Draft already
and it currently looks bright for him and Badalona

The Barça basketball team took an important win in the local derby against Joventut de Badalona by 93-89 away from home
Joan Peñarroya's team dominated the encounter but were made to work hard in the final period to take a victory that takes them into fifth place in the ACB league table
The success against Joventut was also key to boost confidence ahead of a vital week of fixtures in the Euroleague with a play-off place at stake
Despite all eyes being on European competition
focus on the domestic league was of paramount importance given the local rivalry with Joventut
The game started well for the blaugranes with Jabari Parker racking up 9 points in the opening 10 minutes to give Barça a 22-18 lead at the end of the first quarter
Abrines and Parra came into their own as Barça outscored the home side by two to one in the period to take a 50-32 lead at the break
18 points up at the start of the second half
the blaugranes maintained their intensity in defence to increase their lead by six points going into the final quarter at 77-53
With a 24 point lead going into the final quarter
Barça relaxed their intensity and almost paid dear
Joventut stormed back to come within touching distance of an unlikely comeback at 90-86 before the blaugranes sealed the win at 93-86 in the Olímpic de Badalona

The Barcelona High Court has acquitted the mayor of Badalona
and other high-ranking officials in the so-called 'antennas case'
The case stemmed from Albiol’s first term as mayor (2011-2015)
he was accused of authorizing illegal installation of mobile phone antennas for Movistar and Vodafone on the site of the city's local police headquarters
The trial had started in December.
Prosecutors accused him of urban and environmental malfeasance and sought nearly three years in prison, ten years of disqualification from office, and a €9,000 fine.
The same terms were also requested for the former manager of the municipal company, Engestur Tomás Vizcaíno, and the former director of Urban Planning Xavier Salvà.
The defense requested acquittal, claiming that at most an administrative offence had occurred.
Some hours after learning of his acquittal Albiol told reporters that after five “very hard” years, politically and personally, today is a day of “joy and relief” because justice has been done.
Visibly emotional, he assured that the case against him was “a set-up and a big lie” because, as stated in the sentence, “there was no evidence or indication” to implicate him. “You can’t play with people like that”, he lamented.
He also accused the Spanish government of “hunting for a big game piece” as the reason behind the case, and of “wanting to win in the courts what they didn’t win at the polls.”
There hasn’t been a peep out of Ricky Rubio in months
Will he return to his boyhood club of Joventut Badalona
Emmet Ryan on the mystery surrounding the beloved Spanish star’s future
It’s wild to think that this happened 18 years ago this summer
That was one of many moments where a young Ricky Rubio announced himself to the basketball world
Whether in a Joventut Badalona or FC Barcelona in Europe
Is this the end of the road or will there yet be one more chapter
A long tenured big name coming back to Europe from the NBA was always bound to draw headlines. Ricky Rubio was no different to the norm in that respect. While the self-imposed delay on the announcement was respected, we’ll get back to that, the anticipation remained
To the surprise of nobody, he rejoined FC Barcelona. The side where he had won the Euroleague title all the way back in 2010. His first game back in basketball though was in a Spain jersey
A home international defeat to Latvia wasn’t the ideal comeback but nobody cared
Ricky Rubio was back on a basketball court
Since being left out of the Spain roster for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, there has been hardly a peep from him. Save for showing up for Victor Claver’s retirement do, he has basically been off the radar. His deal with the Blaugrana completed
Either Rubio is going to retire or he’ll have one last run with Joventut Badalona
Just from what he has done in the sport alone
Ricky Rubio has earned the right to keep us all waiting
That he has come back to basketball at all after what he has been through was more than enough for us
I’ve written about how writing about Ricky helped me through my own trauma over the past while
What I didn’t expect was just how much his privacy would be respected at large
It’s not that I don’t respect my fellow journalists
We don’t all have the same approach and care
yet Rubio has been able to keep no profile
Rubio has been able to stay completely out of sight all summer
save for the aforementioned retirement of Claver
With all ACB teams bar Real Madrid having already started pre-season
it’s frankly impressive that he has been able to keep his own close counsel so long
Of the many Spanish sides that have reported for training camp are Joventut Badalona
Ricky Rubio made his name there alongside Rudy Fernandez
With the club at the end of the Barcelona metro line
playing in the same stadium as the Dream Team did in 1992
before making the short journey to FCBarcelona
It’s the obvious place for him to finish his career
Badalona haven’t even hinted at announcing him
They have made plenty of player announcements over the summer
Then there was the jersey launch for this season
what seemed the likely place for him to land had nothing to say about a potential return
BallinEurope has a book, a real life actual book called I Like it Loud, and you can buy it on Amazon now. It’s here as a book and here in Kindle form
If ever a player was to not worry about any fanfare around their retirement announcement
announced his NBA retirement quietly in July of 2016
he could have enjoyed a curtain call like the fun one Kobe Bryant did the same year
They just had different approaches to it all
Marc Gasol rejoined Girona after finishing up in the NBA
A full half season had gone by without him suiting up before formally announcing he was retiring as a player
the investment and work Gasol has put in to resurrect Girona is truly commendable

The 21-year-old evaded a couple of Espanyol defenders before thumping the ball in off the crossbar’s underside
The hosts were unable to produce a response
but they were reduced to ten players when Júlia Guerra was shown a straight red card in stoppage time

Natalia Padilla netted a fourth-minute opener to get Sevilla off to a perfect start at Ipurua
Eibar were then given the chance to respond when the referee pointed to the spot for a handball infringement
Andrea Álvarez failed to convert the subsequent penalty
seeing her effort kept out by Sevilla goalkeeper Esther Sullastres
Matters got worse for the hosts when Padilla doubled the visitors’ advantage in the first period’s closing stages
The 22-year-old controlled Alba López’s long pass forward before she poked the ball into the bottom corner
Alba Cerrato made it three in the second half to round off a successful away trip.
After beginning 2025 with a 6-0 win over Real Sociedad
Barcelona produced a repeat of that scoreline in Saturday’s meeting with Badalona
Vicky López and Aitana Bonmatí grabbed a goal apiece to give Barcelona a two-goal lead by the 24th minute
Ewa Pajor then tapped in from Fridolina Rolfö’s cross to score her 14th goal of the Liga F season
Rolfö put her own name on the scoresheet following the half-time interval
drilling the ball in off the inside of the post
Salma Paralluelo came off the bench to guide the ball in from Pajor’s squared pass
making it two goals in three games at the start of the calendar year
Kika Nazareth rounded off the dominant display when she nodded home from Esmee Brugts’ inswinging cross
Basement side Valencia remain four points adrift from safety after they suffered a 2-0 defeat in Sunday’s home clash with Real Sociedad
Yasmin Mrabet was dismissed in the 52nd minute
leaving the hosts with 10 players for the majority of the second period
Real Sociedad made full use of the numerical advantage
with Nahia Aparicio heading home from a corner to give her side a narrow lead
Mirari Uria went on to score her first league goal of the season to wrap up all three points
it was not all perfect for Real Sociedad because they finished the game with 10 players following Ane Etxezarreta’s late red card
Rosa Otermín tapped in the ball from Giovana Queiroz’s low cross to get Atleti up and running in Sunday’s home clash with Levante
Otermin then doubled the advantage midway through the first half
steering the ball into the bottom corner to send her team into the break with a healthy lead
Substitute Synne Jensen added to Atleti’s advantage in the second period at Centro Deportivo Wanda Alcalá de Henares
The Norwegian struck the ball on the half-volley to net her second league goal of the season
The result ended Atleti’s four-game winless run in the league
ensuring they finished the weekend in third position

Betis and Madrid CFF had to settle for a point apiece in Sunday’s fixture. Kayla McKenna latched onto a neat through ball before she drove the ball past Paula Vizoso to the visitors into the break with a slender advantage. However, Betis required just three second-half minutes to level through Carla Armengol. The 26-year-old created the space to fire an unstoppable shot into the far corner.
The game served up one final moment of drama when Betis’ Esther Martín-Pozuelo was sent off in the closing stages following two bookable offences.
Maëlle Lakrar opened the scoring in Real Madrid’s home encounter with Granada. The defender headed in from close range following several flick-ons from a corner. However, Edna Imade produced the Granada response, guiding the ball past Misa to find the net in a sixth consecutive game.
Real Madrid eventually restored their advantage on the hour mark when Signe Bruun knocked the ball in from Linda Caicedo’s squared pass. As the match moved into added time, Eva Navarro produced a first-time shot to add a third and wrap up all three points for Las Blancas.

American rock star Marilyn Manson will perform at Badalona's Palau Olímpic on November 27
The concert will be part of the 'One Assassination Under God Tour,' which will take Manson throughout the United States
This is part of the second leg of the tour, and tickets will go on sale on Friday from 10 am through doctormusic.com and entradas.com. An artist pre-sale starts on Tuesday at 6 pm on the artists' website.
Manson is well known for hits such as 'The Beautiful People' or 'mOBSCENE.'
During the last months of 2024, the artist had released his 12th album: 'One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1.'
Marilyn Manson was under investigation for rape, sexual assault, and bodily harm until early 2025. In late January, prosecutors in California dropped the case on domestic violence and sexual assault allegations as they could not "prove charges of sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt," international media outlets reported.

A towering 42.5 meters high and boasting 100,000 LEDs, Catalonia's tallest Christmas tree was lit up on Sunday by Badalona mayor Xavier García Albiol.
The coastal city, just north of Barcelona, paid tribute to all those affected by the flooding in Valencia before the official switch-on ceremony, with the tree lit up in the colors of the Valencian flag while the region's anthem played.
Around 50,000 people came to the event, according to the local council, and were treated to a show of lights, music and dance, which will take place daily until the end of the holiday season.
"It's a party for everyone and everyone is welcome," Albiol said, noting that the city has become a "reference point" in Spain for celebrating Christmas.
The mayor claimed that Badalona's Christmas tree was in fact the tallest in Spain, a claim also made by the Galician city of Vigo.
"Let it be clear to everyone, we do not need to put a ten-meter star on top of the tree to make it taller," Albiol said. "We have the tallest tree and this is the best city in Catalonia and Spain, with the best Christmas."

Rocío-Lakrar as the CB duo played alongside Olga and Antonia on fullback
This was Antonia’s first start in Real Madrid
The pivot duo Teresa and Leupolz were accompanied by Møller in front playing as a #10 behind the striker
Redondo led the attack and was accompanied by Caicedo and Navarro on the wings
There were a few interesting characteristics in this encounter
even though the game as a whole was a chaotic 90-minute-long series of events
One of them was the presence of high press which could be seen in the first half while Møller was on pitch
It wasn’t much time that Real Madrid didn’t have the ball in the first 45 minutes
the Dane would direct Redondo to press with her
Another interesting and maybe disappointing fact is that Navarro didn’t attempt even one cross in the 45 minutes she played
She succeeded in her only attempted dribble and hit the post once
but the Spanish winger wasn’t at her level today
Three players were seen warming up in the early stages of the match
17' We already have 3 players warming up on the sidelines
It's either freezing in Badalona or Toril is cooking something 0-0
This triple change did change the game for the better
and she was the reason the game shifted to the right side in the second half in comparison to the first half where Caicedo led the plays on the left-hand side
The Frenchwoman ended up having two direct goal contributions - a goal and an assist - being the main face behind Madrid’s remontada
The best example of that was in 49’ when Portales received the ball at the halfway line and went onto a run
It was just bad backtracking by Madrid’s defenders as Portales got ahead as soon as she had received the ball
Levante’s goal in the first half was a result by poor marking in defending set pieces
There was one more interesting thing seen in one of the goals
and it’s concerning the last goal of the match - the receiving of Misa’s goal kicks

The Spaniard Who’s Making Waves in the NBA with the Brooklyn NetsJordi Fernández
has been honored as the "favorite son" of Badalona
Fernández took a moment to acknowledge his roots
which he credited for getting him to where he is today
presented Fernández with the honorary title and a necklace to symbolize the distinction
Fernández shared that he would keep it alongside the bronze medal he won with the Canadian national team at the 2023 World Cup and a replica of the famous Roman statue
The mayor highlighted two key reasons for the recognition: Fernández is the first Spanish coach to lead an NBA team
and he consistently speaks fondly of his hometown
"His first words are always about Badalona
Fernández reflected on his early years in the city
recalling how he started playing basketball at the age of six and began his coaching career at a young age
and you always have to remember where you come from
I wouldn’t be here now if it weren’t for my origins
He also expressed how important it is for him to return to Badalona with his wife and children
so they can experience the city's culture and feel a connection to it
especially since he’s spent much of his career in the United States since 2006
"We have been able to adapt to a day of higher scoring that the opponent has increased the pace of defense and possessions
We have had to adapt to it and different script to the Regular League game
to the first game where I think we were returning to not close well the rebounding outside
We did a little bit better in the second half
That's where they got to second options and it came down to their success
three-point shots from their inside players
they are players with quality and with maximum confidence
we have been able to distribute the efforts a little more within the overloads and the moments of the game and the season
We are satisfied with how we have been able to adapt
with different fives that had not always coincided during the year and
who has the most foresight and today I think we got through the round
