Japanese group already invested €33m in Burgos PCR tire plant in 2024
Spain – Bridgestone has confirmed its commitment to investment in Spain
saying it is progressing a previously announced upgrade programme unveiled earlier this year
“Bridgestone Burgos remains committed to its investments,” said a company spokesperson in a statement to ERJ on 5 Dec
the company intends to execute a €45 million investment
which adds to the €33 million already invested in 2024
Bridgestone disclosed plans to invest “up to €207 million” at its Burgos passenger car tire plant in Spain to "evolve" the manufacturing-mix at the factory to higher-value tires
The comments were made in response to press reports suggesting that Bridgestone had halted the programme amid the intensifying automotive crisis in the country
Increasing output of high-rim-diameter (HRD) tires (18” and above)
the programme is to be carried out between 2024 and 2030 and is also expected to raise productivity there by around 20%
Already one of the group’s largest passenger car tire plants globally, Burgos will also see a 75% increase in HRD tire capacity to over 7 million units/year. (ERJ report)
Bridgestone's operations in Spain have been hit by an ongoing automotive crisis in the country
the group introduced a temporary employment regulation file (ERTE) to reduce production across its four manufacturing sites in Basauri
the tire maker confirmed that it is now considering to discuss a secon extention of ERTE with unions for temporary production cuts between January to March 2025
"The proposal is due to excess stock in the warehouses
which necessitates a reduction in production," said the company representative

Move in response to “profound changes” in European tire market and need to adapt production
Madrid – Bridgestone Hispania Manufacturing has announced that it has formally notified employee representatives of its intention to initiate a collective dismissal procedure
Plants affected by the procedure include its 'agricultural truck & bus radial' (TBR) tire plant in Puente San Miguel (Cantabria)
and the TBR tire factory in Basauri (Basque Country)
is driven by the “profound changes” occurring in the European tire market and the need to adapt production structure
Bridgestone said the dismissal process would affect a total of 546 employees across the two factories
are primarily driven by "both production-related factors and underlying organisational considerations." "At this time
there are no plans to sell or close the plant
Our focus remains on?optimising operations and intend long-term sustainability," said the Bridgestone statement
the agricultural radial (AGR) and TBR tire sectors have experienced a significant contraction recently
Bridgestone linked the decline to a challenging macroeconomic environment caused by “inflation
uncertainty and regulatory changes.”
the group noted that the rise of non-European manufacturers
who have progressively gained an increasing market share
has led to heightened competitive pressure
“The challenging market situation as well as the market structural changes
necessitate an adjustment of production capacity to enhance our competitiveness,” the statement added
the tire maker told ERJ that it was considering a second extension of ERTE
involving temporary production cuts between January to March 2025
was in response to "excess stock in the warehouses
which necessitates a reduction in production."
who will speak on the topic at Petfood Forum in Kansas City
In-depth study of the gut microbiota will help in the development of probiotics and/or fibers specifically designed to support canine and feline health.AnjaGh | Pixabay.comThe gut microbiome plays a crucial role in various aspects of health
Just like humans can increase their wellbeing by taking care of their gut microbiome
The significance of research and study of the microbiome has the potential to transform nutrition and veterinary medicine, said Juan Gomez-Basauri, Ph.D., founder and president of Magellan.
“Microbiome research will have a significant impact on pet nutrition and veterinary medicine through several industry applications,” said Gomez-Basauri
“One such application is the formulation of pet foods that better support the health of the living gut and its microbial communities.”
Gomez-Basauri will speak about the pet microbiome and its future during his session, Longevity, live long and prosper, the fountain of youth and the microbiome, this year's Petfood Forum in Kansas City
Understanding a pet’s microbiome can lead to personalized nutrition and veterinary care
The potential to develop foods and diets that provide a diverse yet balanced gut microbiome for better wellbeing is enormous
“By using targeted ingredients and fiber components
we could selectively promote the growth of specific phyla and genus of microorganisms such as Faecalibacterium
achieve improved digestion and nutrient absorption,” he explained
Gomez-Basauri said using microbiome analysis as a diagnostic tool could help develop “pet-sonalized” nutrition plans by including specific probiotics and prebiotics
as well as dietary strategies tailored to the microbial community of an individual pet
The goal would be to prevent and manage conditions such as obesity
“Microbiome-tailored nutrition can help support healthy immune function by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria that interact with the immune system and enhancing its response to pathogens,” said Gomez-Basauri
“A diverse microbiome can help reduce the risk of digestive disorders as well as reduce food allergies and sensitivities
the health of the skin and coat is associated with the relationship between the gut microbiome and the immune system.”
Gomez-Basauri noted there are other benefits associated with maintaining a healthy microbiome
including weight management and increased life span
“Suffice to say that targeted nutritional microbiome interventions for improving health conditions and preventive care strategies will ultimately lead to better health outcomes and increased wellbeing of pets," he added
Gomez-Basauri said current research will begin unraveling a new frontier in pet nutritional care
In-depth study of the gut microbiota will help in the development of probiotics and/or fibers specifically designed to support canine and feline health
There are several opportunities that research of the microbiome presents
from the selection and evaluation of current and traditional ingredients to the use of novel and non-traditional ingredients
polyphenols and bacteriocins with the aim to promote a diverse and balanced gut microbiome for improved companion animal wellbeing
“Microbiome research will enable scientists to understand the intricate relationship between diet
“This knowledge will allow for what I call ‘precision nutrition strategies,’ which are tailored to the unique needs of individual pets in order to optimize their health and wellbeing.”
Gomez-Basauri said as microbiome research continues to advance
collaborative efforts and pooling of expertise among scientists
pet food manufacturers and other stakeholders will usher in an era for personalized medicine
where nutritional strategies are tailored to the individual microbiome of each patient
ultimately benefiting companion animals and humans as well.

SD Worx-Protime maintain 100% win record with García second
winning stage 2 from a group of three that formed in the finale of the stage
Mavi García (Liv-AlUla-Jayco) finished second while Juliette Labous (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) took third
Bredewold and García bridged across to Labous who had attacked with 12km to go
and as Labous and García worked hard to maximise their GC time gain
Labous led the trio onto the uphill finish in Basauri where García took the lead 300 metres from the line
but Bredewold jumped from the Spanish champion's wheel in the last 150 metres to take the stage and continue her team's 100% record with eight stage wins out of eight possible in the Basque race
“This is really unexpected and crazy
and we all make each other calm because we’re always there
Blanka [Vas] and Marie [Schreiber] did amazing work,” said Bredewold who thanked her teammates after the finish
“I could not hold on with the best riders
but that’s actually what I expected before
referring to the Urruztigaina climb where she lost contact with the best before coming back and attacking in the final
The 104-kilometre stage around Basauri was changed before the start as the unclassified climbs in the final were removed
Valentina Cavallar (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) won the first two mountain sprints to defend her lead in the mountain classification
She will wear the polka-dot jersey on stage 3 but will have to work hard to take it home as the final stage includes the first-category Jaizkibel
Niamh Fisher-Black (SD Worx-Protime) set a hard pace on the Urruztigaina climb
and Vollering made her move 400 metres from the top to crest the climb solo
Élise Chabbey (Canyon-SRAM) came up to Vollering with 33km to go
and when Marlen Reusser (SD Worx-Protime) joined them a little bit later
They were only ten seconds ahead of a chase group with Labous
and Pauliena Rooijakkers (Fenix-Deceuninck)
and the five chasers bridged with 27.6km to go
the cooperation in the new front group of eight wasn’t great
a reduced peloton had closed the gap after having been almost a minute behind
Lotte Claes (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) went on the attack
but the Movistar Team did let neither her nor Cédrine Kerbaol (Ceratizit-WNT) go
Labous then used a short uphill ramp to jump away with 12km to go
eventually succeeding together with Bredewold
The three frontrunners built a gap of up to 21 seconds
and Bredewold played her cards best to win the stage one second ahead of García and Labous
four seconds ahead of Olivia Baril (Movistar Team)
and nine seconds ahead of the rest of the reduced peloton

England-based scrum half has risen through the Eagles pathway with the Boys High School All-Americans and most recently with the AIG Men's Junior All-Americans in the World Rugby U20 Trophy Qualifier series with Canada in March
while Basauri joined an assembly in Republic of Georgia in the fall of 2013
we didn't have nearly the same level of depth as we do this go-round,' Tolkin said
"It gives you a little bit of relief to think that
if someone were to go down or wasn't playing well
there are some quality choices that you can make experience-wise.'
The Eagles will assemble in Santa Clara July 11 ahead of the first two rounds of the World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup at Avaya Stadium in San Jose and Bonney Field in Sacramento
The squad for the U.S.'s third year in the competition
which will run through to the Finals day in Burnaby
"It's always beneficial to have guys play in the best possible games at the end of the season,' Tolkin said
"The more we can get those guys playing high-level games closer to when we next meet is always a good thing.'
The U.S. will get an early look at World Cup pool mates Japan and Samoa during the Pacific Nations Cup, which will also consist of a match against Tonga and a final match dependent on tournament seeding. The Eagles will rest between the final match day and their next assembly date of August 15, when the squad will prepare for domestic matches against Harlequins and Australia in Philadelphia and Chicago

Think more along the lines of Buster Keaton and you’ll get an idea of type of clown Basauri is—one who employs physical comedy and slapstick to make audiences laugh
He co-founded England’s Spymonkey theater company
worked with Cirque du Soleil and teaches clown classes all over Europe and the U.S
Now he’s coming to Honolulu to show you how it’s done
Basauri will teach a five-day master class on physical comedy at The ARTS at Marks Garage
there will be a final performance open to the public
featuring students who completed at least 15 of the 23 workshop hours
a Hawai‘i-born writer and performer who spent the past 20 years living and working in New York and on the Mainland

“There’s no professional theater company in Hawai‘i
but we can create the talent to be at that level,” she says
so she partnered with Mark Branner from UH Mānoa’s Department of Theatre and Dance to produce this workshop
Basauri will work with students one on one
respond and interact with each other and the audience
as well as play games to develop certain comedic acting skills
“We want it to be Hawai‘i-centric,” Murakoshi says
by using local culture and pidgin to make audiences identify
with what’s going on in the world around us
The workshops aim to get everyone “to see the humor in that ridiculousness.”
Anyone interested in signing up for the master class, or just dropping in for one or two sessions, can do so here
To see the final scenes produced by students
Master Clown Intensive Workshop, April 9–13, $500 all five days, $150 Sunday only, $100 drop-in; performance on April 14, 7:30 p.m., $10, The ARTS at Marks Garage, 1159 Nu‘uanu Ave., eventbrite.com

All the route details for the 3rd edition of the three-day race
In what the organisers promise will be the most mountainous edition, the route of the 2024 Itzulia Women will cover 358.9km over three stages from May 12-14 in the Basque Country of Spain.
The third edition will include nine categorised mountain passes - one category 1, two category 2, and six category 3 - for a challenging event suited to the best climbers in the Women's WorldTour

Despite having just 3 categorised mountain passes
it includes plenty of climbs and descents.
The 140km stage starting from Vitoria-Gasteiz could present a favourable day for a breakaway that could escape on the category 1 ascent of Olaeta
The last few kilometres climb steadily uphill on a continuous false flat until the finish line in Elgoibar

The figure-eight-shaped loop route includes three categorised ascents and a finish with several uncategorized punchy climbs and descents that are sure to decide the stage winner.
The final 10 kilometres will force contenders to be well positioned or able to manage the potential changes of pace or see their bid for overall victory vanish up the road

the peloton will tackle a similar route to the Classica San Sebastian
and the climb up the Murgil wall to Mendizorrotz
followed by a descent and flat-run into Donostia
the peloton shattered on the category 1 Jaizkibel
leaving an elite group of about 20 riders to fight for victory

anarchic theatre company Spymonkey and sketch duo Max and Ivan place the spotlight on their own lives more than ever before
Brian LoganThu 11 Jan 2024 09.48 CETLast modified on Thu 11 Jan 2024 19.11 CETShareIf you’re making comedy
what’s the last thing you should include in your show
For years – for most of entertainment history
in fact – the answer would have been: backstage strife
No one wants to see that show about how you’re drifting apart as a double act
how touring live comedy just doesn’t pay the bills
or how your company is in the advanced stages of collapse
Remember that Morecambe and Wise show about the tensions in their off-stage relationship
the duo Max and Ivan were grateful that their chosen artistic niche
gave them characters and fictions to hide behind
“So many standups feel compelled to mine their inner lives for material,” says one half of the twosome
“Or they live their lives with half an eye on ‘how does this turn into comedy?’ That can be unhealthy; you can lose sight of the [difference] between you the performer and you the actual person
we don’t have to exist in that unhealthy space’
when suddenly we’re trawling through emails
putting personal photos onstage and excavating our lives in more detail than we’ve ever done before.”
He’s talking about the pair’s new show Life, Choices. No spoilers here: suffice to say that, after years of multi-roling their own made-up comic plays, Max and Ivan have now taken their own lives as their subject. The raw material of Life, Choices – sometimes very raw – is the difficulty of sustaining a comedy partnership into middle age, when parenthood, unpaid bills and “a sitcom that got canned” (or
that’s “still awaiting the second-season call”) all start pulling you in other directions
a version of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
in which one horseman had left to work in Las Vegas
wondering: “what do we do now there’s just two of us
And The Frogs came about through that,” says Park
“It’s the first ever double act in the western theatrical canon.” It’s also about a journey to bring a recently deceased
much-missed theatre-maker (Euripides) back from the dead
“The struggle of these two characters” – Dionysus and his slave Xanthias – “resembles the struggle Toby and I are enduring now Stephan and Petra are not here,” says Basauri
Which might have been enough in a previous age: Spymonkey might have staged the play
and kept their own behind-the-scenes struggles subtextual
But in this production the ancient Greek story (in an adaptation by Grose) is spliced with scenes depicting the company’s disintegration
“We flip back in time in the show to revisit the Spymonkey office,” says Park
“and there’s a little shrine to Stephan and a defaced photograph of Petra.” (“I fear,” he adds
“it’s not going to make Carl many royalties from other companies doing it.”)
View image in fullscreenComic theatre mainstays … Stephan Kreiss
Aitor Basauri and Petra Massey in Moby Dick by Spymonkey at the Lyric Hammersmith in 2010
Photograph: Tristram Kenton/The GuardianWhy do this
to make theatre in this way – with the stories of the performers as prominent as the story of the play – is consistent with how Spymonkey have always worked
“Whenever you put a group of people onstage,” says Basauri
“you want to consider the dynamics that govern those people.” What’s the story behind the story
And if the creators don’t take it into account
“It also fits very much with the world of the clown,” he adds – and as a fantastic clown himself
“The clown will try and tell a story that is important to the clown
Max and Ivan had also made prior moves in this direction. Their 2019 show Commitment portrayed the spectacular job Olesker made of organising partner Ivan Gonzalez’s real-world stag do
and when the pair looked for the heart in their current circumstances
they couldn’t see past the subject of their early middle age (Gonzalez had recently become a dad)
their relationships with their ageing fathers
“It kept coming back to the notion,” says Olesker
we ended up exposing our inner workings in ways we hadn’t before.”
you wonder at the candour with which Max and Ivan depict their off-stage relationship
“There are areas of our lives that aren’t in the show,” says Olesker
“and that was the result of negotiation and talking.” There was also stuff in early drafts
“but it’s a selective truth that works for the show.”
The risk here, of course, is self-indulgence – and both parties express their aversion to navel-gazing in the strongest possible terms. “We didn’t want anyone to have to actually care about the economics of putting on a two-man narrative comedy show,” says Max Olesker. “We want to be accessible to people who’ve never seen us before,” says Gonzalez. “Lots of people have to grow up and deal with adult life – not just us.”
Read moreIt surely will – because 21st-century audiences get a charge out of “the truth”
whether or not it’s in a complex dance with (2,500-year-old) fiction
whose currents pull towards identity and authenticity (some would say solipsism)
The artists involved are wise to those currents (“the exposedness and the realness felt like an exciting thing to play around with,” says Olesker)
“Just because it’s true doesn’t mean it’s worth performing,” says Gonzalez
while Spymonkey defend their decision to filter real-world problems through ancient Greek fiction
“It’s more fun to have a story to tell,” says Park
“then that story gets overlaid with your own stories and situations
We’ve always had lots of fun trying to make ‘good theatre’ and failing
“Perhaps that’s what we should learn how to do now,” he adds
a little ruefully: “make a show out of just us.” After all
the company is casting around for a new role
Real-world truth works best in small doses
if they bring an amazing personality to bear
Max and Ivan’s Life, Choices is at Soho theatre, London, 15-20 January. The Frogs is at the Royal & Derngate, Northampton, 19 January-3 February, and at the Kiln theatre, London

In Jacques Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld
the audience can laugh about dreary marriages as well as about screwed-up gods and a party-addicted underworld
This comedic masterpiece is far removed from the lofty mythic world of earlier settings
First performed in 1858 at the Bouffes-Parisiens theatre in Paris
of which Orpheus in the Underworld is still considered the cornerstone today
The old gods as well as the human couples have become henpecked heroes: Orpheus is a boring music teacher and Eurydice his wife who is annoyed by him
When Eurydice dies and goes straight to the underworld
which compels Orpheus to reclaim his wife from Jupiter
the entire family of gods is taken to the underworld
where one of the most famous pieces in music history awaits with the so-called Cancan
This question is answered by Spymonkey (Aitor Basauri
Britain's leading physical comedy and modern day clowning ensemble
Orpheus in the Underworld marks the group's first production at an opera house
"The work fits perfectly with our comedic language," says Toby Park
And if you think you have already experienced the Volksoper ensemble in all its facets
because in Orpheus in the Underworld it unfolds its true clown potential
NorthamptonThe Aristophanes play is interwoven with the theatre company’s personal quest in a ramshackle show that loses its way
That is one question – and there are so many others thrown into this picaresque journey into the underworld that you get lost in the darkness
In ancient Athens, Dionysus (Toby Park) and the enslaved Xanthius (Aitor Basauri) venture into hades in search of the city’s great, recently departed tragedian Euripides
by physical theatre company Spymonkey and Carl Grose
takes huge meta-theatrical detours to become a strange creation
as motley as the underworld monsters they meet on their way
There are inquiries into the nature of comedy
randomly attached scenes (including from A Streetcar Named Desire) and the story of the theatre company itself
which has come to be seen as the closest thing to Monty Python in the 21st century and which once comprised four core performers

Their characters keep to the original mission to bring back Euripides but it diverts into a search for Kreiss

There are songs about creative uncertainty and writer’s block
Tragedy and comedy can be twinned to powerful effect
but in this baggy jumble the former is heartfelt and the latter half-hearted

Xanthius is more the fool than in Aristophanes’s original
Figures in luminous cagoules and sandals (played by a community cast) form the frog chorus

Aristophanes warned against cleaving to the past

Liverpool PlayhouseSpymonkey riff with pop culture – from funk-anthem carols to Torvill and Dean – in a bizarre take on the Dickens classic
Riffing on Dickens’ classic, the company can rely on their audience’s knowledge. We know this story. We’re anticipating each “bah, humbug!” and yuletide ghoul. And so Spymonkey can have some fun, gleefully inserting anachronisms – carollers singing Oops Upside Your Head; the Ghost of Christmas Future listening to a self-help podcast – and putting their own zany
dizzying spin on Scrooge’s journey to enlightenment
The Ghost of Christmas Past wants to be in a horror movie
Mr Fezziwig is played as a Cuban drug lord
Some skits point up moments of the ridiculous in Dickens’ narrative
while others – like a wonderfully bizarre sequence involving Torvill and Dean’s Bolero routine and a Henry vacuum cleaner (yes
really) – come straight from the wacky imaginations of the company

the young engineers decided to help out three kids who are missing a portion of their hands by using 3D printers to make cool-looking prosthetics of the child's choosing
said they wanted to give the hands a "wow" factor
The project is part of Enabling the Future, a worldwide network of volunteers who use 3D printers to make prosthetic hands for children
as the 3D printers available for them to use were unreliable
"We used Daimler grant money to buy (three) kits for the students to build
The idea was they would understand more about the technology if they built them themselves," said Jacob Small
3D printers build whatever you tell them via computer file (within reason
they can't make a chocolate cake at this point)
The printer adds layer upon layer of material until the item is completed
It took 17 hours to build Megan's purple
The hands don't offer the full dexterity of a professionally made prosthesis
but they're a good starting point for kids who would quickly outgrow more expensive models
Basauri tried out Megan's hand after her team put on the finishing touches
by simply bending her wrist to close the fingers and thumb of the hand
which has a sticky gripping material on the fingers
But the team noticed a red mark on Basauri's wrist
"That's not good," said one of the girls
they sanded down an edge to make sure it was comfortable for Megan
"In the end we're all kids and we want to make her something she'll be proud of because we're proud of it," Basauri said
The guys at the next table weren't able to test the Spiderman hand they made for 5-year-old Robert
it was so small it took a concerted effort by the teenagers to fit the screws and wires in place
"We have to make sure it's precisely assembled," said Mukiza France
They had hoped to find a way for the little blue hand with red fingers and a spider on the back to fire webbing like the "real" Spiderman
The Southridge students became pen pals of sorts with the kids and their parents as they emailed back and forth to get dimensions and designs for the hands
offered a unique perspective for his group
"I like helping other people with hand disabilities so they can have normal lives."
The hope is the kids will be able to ride bikes
hold a toy lightsaber or a game controller
probably can't bear the weight of a child wanting to hang from the monkey bars at a playground
Small's engineering class is strictly project based and
he's teaching with the seniors as student leaders
The class of 28 is a combination of Engineering 2 and Engineering 3 students
Small equated it to a business in which the employees are given a project
The team leaders guide its delivery and he acts as boss
"This class didn't exist until the right group (of students) came along," Small said
"They have had a hand in this class as much as I have."
they're curious about the difference they may have made for the three kids
"We really need to get Megan to video how she uses this," said Melissa Tensa

dance and slapstick in irreverent take on classic Greek comedy
Thursday, 15th February 2024 — By Lucy Popescu
Aitor Basauri and Toby Park [Manuel Harlan]
CARL Grose and Spymonkey’s irreverent take on Aristophanes’ The Frogs bears only a passing resemblance to the classic Greek comedy
The physical theatre company used to be four
but Petra Massey moved to Las Vegas and associate artist Stephan Kreiss died in 2021
Toby Park and Aitor Basauri decide to go it alone as a double act
They are aided by Jacoba Williams’ eccentric billionaire who commissions Spymonkey to create a touring version of The Frogs and insists that they include her niece
Dionysus (Park) and his slave Xanthias (Basauri)
travel to Hades to find the playwright Euripides and bring him back from the dead
Along the way they have to overcome various obstacles thrown up by the gods and monsters played by Williams (dressed in Lucy Bradridge’s increasingly elaborate costumes)
a couple of detours into other plays and plenty of breaking the fourth wall
In a series of “scenes between the scenes” their mission changes and the hapless pair resolve to try and rescue their pal Stephen from the underworld
director Joyce Henderson makes no attempt to rein in the chaos
Although uneven and occasionally overindulgent
it’s hard to resist the production’s charm and pathos
Carl Grose’s adaptation continues until 3 February in Northampton ahead of a London run at the Kiln Theatre from 8 February

Spymonkey returns to the stage after a four-year hiatus with a brave and typically anarchic attempt at breathing new life into a long-deceased Greek tragicomedy
Aristophanes’s The Frogs failed to win many plaudits as a Sondheim musical 50 years ago
so you have to wonder about the sanity of Spymonkey’s artistic director and co-star
in dusting off its ancient cobwebs for a revival
the attempt is made all harder given that the award-winning theatre company has been decimated with the departure of founding member
for a Las Vegas residency and the unexpected early death of another
All that’s left are Park and Aitor Basauri – but have the duo (as they readily admit) “lost their mojo”
Is there a future for the company or is their best work already a distant memory
With the help of new recruit Jacoba Williams
Park and Basauri plunge into a new project for a co-production
which opened last night at Northampton’s Royal and Derngate
The Frogs is a largely apt choice of play: laden with clever metaphysical complexities to reveal not only a raw and realistic look at a depleted theatre company’s struggle for survival
but also an endearing and heartfelt tribute to one of its much-loved members
For those not up to speed on 3,000-year-old texts
The Frogs follows the quixotic adventures of demi-God Dionysus
as the pair set off on a road trip to rescue Euripides from Hades in the hope that the playwright’s art will breathe new life into theatre
Park and Basauri throw themselves into the plot but soon realise that
they are looking for their dear friend Kreiss – in an impossible quest to reunite the old team
it soon becomes evident that despite trippy scenes
tap-dancing frogs (take a bow the theatre’s community cast) and the introduction of Williams
not to mention the boundless energy of Basauri
Kreiss is gone and he’s not coming back
written by Carl Grose in collaboration with Spymonkey
The sketchy road to enlightenment needs a bigger cast with fresh comedic skills to flesh out the story
The narrative struggles to keep its head above water in the sea between scenes that are used to pad out the production to two hours (including an interval)
There are occasional flashes of brilliance but
Spymonkey created a sensation when they first barnstormed the stage more than 25 years ago and
I hope the troupe rally and that new blood will revitalise its fortunes
The pair of Tony Award nominees performed a selection of numbers

Spymonkey’s tragically funny attempt to pull off a classic Greek comedy
From the UK’s leading physical comedy ensemble Spymonkey comes a delirious trip through Greek theatre
a monster-filled Underworld and classic vaudeville double acts
Toby Park and Aitor Basauri are at the end of the road
The other Spymonkeys have taken themselves off to a better place
But when a mega-rich philanthropist and her theatrically inclined niece make them an offer they can’t refuse
Do they have what it takes to perform the classic Greek comedy The Frogs
modern-day angst and a jumping chorus of tap-dancing frogs
this is Aristophanes performed like you’ve never seen it before
