Arman Tsarukyan is ready to break into the elite of the UFC lightweight division
It’s no secret that the 155-pound weight class is as talent-rich as it gets across the global MMA landscape
Fighters like the 26-year-old Tsarukyan have proven to be the next wave of mainstays
awaiting their opportunity to fully tap into their potential
“I think they’re working on it,” Tsarukyan told Submission Radio
“I don’t have exact information but he wants to fight at the end of this year and I want to fight and I just see me and Dariush can fight
I know him personally and we trained once together
He’s [such a] good guy but this is sport and he wants to fight with everybody [like] me
I know he’ll take that fight with me because for him it makes sense because he lost his last fight.”
Dariush will look to rebound and get back in the win column upon his eventual return. UFC 289 this past month saw the streaking contender suffer a tough first-round TKO loss to the former champion Charles Oliveira
Tsarukyan’s primary dream fight for the past so many months has been Michael Chandler. Unfortunately for the rising contender, Chandler is tied up with his potential Conor McGregor clash and never had an interest in Tsarukyan before landing his opportunity on The Ultimate Fighter 31 (TUF)
Tsarukyan is jumping on board with the spreading sentiment that the Chandler vs
He just wants to fight and he’s just a fighter
He doesn’t do anything different things for media
“I think no [the McGregor fight doesn’t happen]. Maybe next year. I saw the tweet Chandler called out Islam Makhachev
So he wants to fight for the title but it’s so easy money for Islam and I don’t want to see that fight

As Islam Makhachev continues to take the UFC lightweight division by storm
we sit down with former two-division champion and UFC color commentator Daniel Cormier to discuss what it is about Makhachev that separates him from the rest of the division
Don't Miss Makhachev's Second Main Event
As Makhachev heads into the second main event of his career this weekend against Bobby Green, who replaces an injured Beniel Dariush, at UFC Fight Night: Makhachev vs Green, he faces massive implications in making his case as the next lightweight title contender. But before that, Cormier gives us insight into what makes Makhachev so special
when Makhachev came to AKA (American Kickboxing Academy)
he was the first one to come after Khabib (Nurmagomedov) started coming
but you knew the story: he was the one that was closest related to Khabib in terms of the fact that they'd been together the longest
He was (Khabib’s) dad’s student from the start
I feel like he was the one that they wanted people to know
but you could see in his work that the kid had a ton of talent
he would find his way to a ton of success inside the UFC
when I was still fighting and in there every day
to have those guys when they would come in for training camp
to have that level of talent in the room and see that those guys were trying to learn
Islam's looking to give back the wisdom that he has in sambo and in grappling
he wants to see people reach his level also.
It's one of the very endearing characteristics that these Russian guys have
But I think that not only comes from them and their upbringing
but also it's the way that the American Kickboxing Academy works
they kind of bought into it and coupled it with what they already have
A: People always talk about how these gyms grow
And I think the greatest story of that is 2015: Cain was the champ
Rockhold had the belt and then Khabib won the belt
And that's was just the four of us as we were competing at the top of the sport
but you had guys like Islam winning the entire time
Everybody else believes winning is the way it should be
You earn the expectation of a gym that wins
and now it's time to be the leader of that gym
You see guys doing these special things over and over again
because you know that you're putting in as much work as anybody else
so I can do exactly what they do or have done
And I believe Islam is now ready to go and carry the torch of the gym
Because he is honestly even ahead of Khabib
he can reach levels that some thought were unattainable
especially for a guy that English is his second language.
and I believe that the unique talent that he possesses is going to inspire a lot of people.
We want to let the next generation see what we did and look at it and go
Islam is going to do that for a lot of kids — not only in Russia
And I believe that's what makes him special
and then he goes back to that solitude.
there are so many questions that surround who he really is
And I believe that's intriguing to a lot of people
And I believe that's the same type of journey Islam will take because this dude is 21-1 right now
but I think now people's eyes are just starting to open to who and what a special talent Islam Makhachev really is
one thing I think about Islam is (chuckles) his confidence
and grow up in the way that these guys did and not carry that gene
He's a humble guy — but his belief in himself is next-level.
He was talking to me about wrestling one day
“Jordan Burroughs is the second greatest American wrestler of all time
you can't possibly believe that you can wrestle Jordan Burroughs.”
And he does believe that if he was to wrestle Jordan Burroughs
like no way you believe this.” But he does
and it's very consistent with how he's been.
And it's on us as teammates and friends to support him
If you're trapped on an island and had to choose a handful of fights you couldn't live without, what would you choose

Portu comes back to Girona FCThe Murcia winger signs a four-season contract
Cristian Portugués, Portu, will once again wear the red and white shirt. Girona FC have reached an agreement with Getafe CF for the signing of the winger from Murcia, who has signed a contract for the next four seasons, until June 2027.
Portu, who joined Girona in 2016 from Albacete, made 115 appearances (71 first-team, 41 second-team and three Copa del Rey appearances) and scored 29 goals in three years as a red-and-white, before leaving on loan to Real Sociedad in 2019. The Basque side, with whom he played three seasons, loaned him last season to Getafe, where he comes from.
The Beniel native has always maintained a special connection with the Girona fans, and now, at 31, he will be an important reinforcement in the offensive aspect of the team, giving more depth and creativity to the game thanks to his technical ability, speed and understanding of the game.
The Leeton Galloping Greens have gone back-to-back to claim the 2023 Group 20 Rugby League premiership.
In a replay of the 2022 decider, Leeton held off a fast-finishing Darlington Point-Coleambally Roosters to triumph 28-24 in front of a bumper crowd at Griffith's Solar Mad Stadium.
Leeton shot out of the blocks to lead 16-0 after 18 minutes with Beniel Qereqeretabua, Will Barnes, and Tyler O'Connell all crossing for tries.
When Billy Rabua crossed for Leeton's fourth try - and following O'Connell's third conversion from four attempts - the Galloping Greens looked to be on their way to a comprehensive win (22-0).
The Roosters wouldn't go away and just before the break Guy Thompson, who will be coaching Leeton in 2024, pushed his way over for a vital try.
The reliable boot of Joshua Veivers knocked over the conversion, and Darlington Point-Coleambally trailed 22-6 at halftime.
With their tails up, the Roosters crowed in the first few minutes of the second half with Jon Huggett and Kane Simpson crossing for tries, and following Veivers' successful conversions, Leeton's lead was reduced to 22-18 after 46 minutes.
Leeton hit back when Qereqeretabua, who was named the Barry Hails Medallist as best-on-ground, scored his second try. O'Connell again successful with the conversion meant the Greens extended the lead to 28-18.
Leeton then lost Seb Blackett, who was sin-binned for a late hit, and the Greens had to dig deep.
The Roosters took full advantage with Huggett charging over for his second try, and when Veivers converted, Darlington Point-Coleambally trailed 28-24, leading into the final six minutes.
The Roosters had their chances and attacked both of Leeton's edges in what was a frantic final stanza, but the Greens held on for a four-point victory to claim an epic win.
Leeton captain-coach Hayden Philp was thrilled to see his side handle the momentum swings.
"We started really well, but they got that try before halftime and a couple of quick ones after halftime, and it was anyone's game," Philp said.
"In that last 15 minutes, we had a bloke sin-binned, and they had a lot of ball on our line.
“But we held them out, and our defence and some of those big efforts won us the game."
It's the first time in 89 years that Leeton has gone back-to-back, with their last double recorded when playing in Group 9 during the 1933-34 seasons.
"It's an amazing achievement," Philp said.
"To do it last year felt like a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and to go back-to-back; not many people can achieve that.”
While Philp's first-grade side enjoyed victory on the day, it was an historic day for Leeton, who fielded teams in all five Group 20 senior Grand Finals.
The Galloping Greens Blues Tag outfit lifted the trophy when defeating West Wyalong 16-12, while Leeton's reserves went down to Yenda 26-4, their Under-18s lost to Griffith Black and Whites 36-14, and their Under-16s fell to the Griffith Black and Whites 20-16.
"There has been a great feeling around the club this year," Philp said.
"To have five teams in Grand Finals is a massive achievement, and to win two is great. There is a lot of talent in the club, and we're set for a bright future."

Over a year out, having missed out on a huge fight, and with seemingly no booking on the horizon, Dariush is in a tough spot. Ali Abdelaziz, famed MMA manager to the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Makhachev feels that Daruish deserves a big fight
but is unsure what the UFC will do with him
especially since other fighters seem unwilling to risk their spot in the rankings
“Beneil deserves a big fight,” Abdelaziz said to The Schmo
I believe he could fight Islam for the lightweight title.”
Beneil is on an eight-fight winning streak
Link Copied!UFC fighter Dustin Poirier was on a three-fight winning streak
he was stopped by Charles Oliveira at UFC 269 via submission
people have been wondering who he will fight next
Many rumors about him facing Beneil Dariush have been around lately
‘The Diamond’ himself came forward to put the rumors to sleep
— The Diamond (@DustinPoirier) July 18, 2022
While the fighter did not directly refer to any particular rumor, his facing Dariush is the prominent one floating around. Thus, it seems like Poirier versus Dariush is a fight that won’t happen anytime soon
He retweeted Poirier’s tweet and added the broken-heart emoticon

— Beneil Dariush (@beneildariush) July 19, 2022
Dariush, who is on a seven-fight win streak, hasn’t been in the Octagon for more than a year. His last fight was against Tony Ferguson at UFC 262
He even had to step down from facing Islam Makhachev because of an injury
it is not surprising for him to want to fight soon
Poirier currently stands at number two in the lightweight division
a fight between both the top lightweights would be an exciting one to witness
Since the Poirier-Dariush fight won’t happen
it would be interesting to see who both the fighters face upon their returns
Charles Oliveira and Makhachev will face each other for the vacant UFC lightweight championship at UFC 280

Mateusz Gamrot has conquered the fighting community on multiple occasions
The 33-year-old has an incredible resume with impressive victories over some of the best fighters in the lightweight division
he wasn’t safe from a couple of defeats in his mixed martial arts career
let’s take a look at all the defeats that ‘Gamer’ has faced in his professional MMA record
Mateusz Gamrot has an impressive MMA record of 24 wins and just 2 losses in his professional mixed martial arts career
he has fallen short against two fighters in the past
Gamrot made his return inside the UFC octagon in October 2020
His debut for the promotion didn’t start with success as he would face his first career loss against the Georgian
The fight was close to call as Gamrot had a lot of success but a knockdown by Kutaletladze was enough to win over two of the three judges
His second career loss came in the hands of one of the top lightweights in the division against Beniel Dariush back in October of 2022
Mateusz Gamrot was on a 4-fight win streak going in against Beniel Dariush at UFC 208
but the more seasoned fighter managed to upset the Polish after a dominating performance
Dariush indeed won via a unanimous decision
A post shared by Catering dietetyczny (@body_chief)
which makes us wonder about his career outside of the UFC
How has he fared in the harsh world outside the UFC Octagon
Mateusz Gamrot came into the UFC with an undefeated record of 13-0
He had an impressive 46% finish rate while joining the UFC which made quite a lot of people expect quite a lot from the Polish wrestler
The only fight where he came close to one was his fight against Norman Parke in KSW 39 back in 2017 after an accidental eye poke
which meant that the fight was ruled as a no-contest
But that doesn’t mean the Polish mixed martial artist was defeated by Parke
The two faced each other for the third time at KSW 53 – Reborn
where Gamrot claimed a victory over Parke via TKO by doctor’s stoppage
Despite no losses in MMA outside of the UFC Mateusz Gamrot didn’t have much success in grappling competitions as he had competed twice in professional grappling but didn’t find success either time
His first ended in a draw against Borys Mańkowski in 2017
and his second against an MMA superstar from ONE Championship
Garry Tonon in 2019 at the ADCC World Championships
Now, ‘Gamer’ is all set to land against Dan Hooker at UFC 305. Needless to say, the RAC Arena, Perth, will witness a fight that the MMA world won’t forget. After all, the #5 lightweight fighter desperately desires to turn his 3-fight win streak into a 4-fight win streak.
Given his performances in recent times, how do you think that he would fare against the ‘Hangman’? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
There’s a reason Islam Makhachev is the UFC’s No. 1 pound-for-pound ranked fighter in the world, even if Dana White doesn’t agree
