The black colour is its distinguishing feature
Hence its name in Galician: millo corvo (lierally "crow corn")
A name that is also linked to two more names: Bueu
the town where the event takes place; and the Asociación Cultural Meiro (Cultural Association Meiro)
responsible for showcasing this delicacy at a celebration that has been distinguished as a Festival of Tourist Interest
This kind of corn is tasted and other artisanal and organic products are presented
These unusual corncobs come from the ones originally grown in these lands of O Morrazo
The first proof of the existence of these corn crops dates back to the 17th century
the millo corvo went from being harvested in forest areas and in those areas where a specific variety was needed to protect the rest of them
a process of recovery for this species had to be set in motion in O Morrazo
the most suitable grains and harvesting techniques were sought to get the darker tones of this corncob to sprout in the plantations
the small villages of O Morrazo were visited and the residents were asked about it
which was declared Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia in 2009
ethnographic and gastronomical activities for the visitors with the advent of spring
It is possible to visit the mills in order to witness the grinding process of corn
to enjoy musical performances by local bands
to taste the queimada (a traditional Galician alcoholic beverage) as you listen to its esconxuro (an incantation that is part of the ritual of the queimada) or to sample different preparations where this product is used as a base
The most significant dish is bread cooked using the flour of this particular corn variety
which is also dark-coloured. Empanadas (pies usually made with a savouring filling) or cakes are other delicacies that are served at the tables of Meiro
the millo corvo shows that it goes well together with biscuits
The mills of O Canudo and A Presa are another hub of activity
which dates back to 1800 and was restored in 1996
was precisely the one that gave this event a boost
the water of the river is directly collected by means of a stone canal that enables the grinding of corn
the production process of millo corvo follows the instructions that have been passed down for centuries: the people in Bueu strive to make the procedure as natural and artisanal as possible
the harvest and the preservation of the grains are characterised by the ways and the techniques that have always been used
These practices give a unique flavour to the dishes that hundreds of visitors taste in the small village of Meiro every year
Bueu celebrates this festivity from the planting and growing to the preparation of a variety of dishes using millo corvo
as a natural barrier between the forest and the white corn
Today it is the star of this festival. Thanks to its recovery
Meiro travels back in time with every typical activity related to the harvest that takes place at this event
promoting respect for and stressing the importance of the environment
Apart from the millo corvo, other traditional varieties such as white or red corn are displayed at this celebration
an environmentally-friendly organisation that supports the principles of the traditional diet
included the millo corvo in its prestigious catalogue Ark of Taste
It was one of the few Spanish products that were added to this list at that time thanks to the work of those who promoted its recovery

The folks at Corvus Belli have been knocking it out of the park lately with their miniature sculpts for both Infinity and Aristeia!
Corvus Belli has been releasing alternate "skins" for a lot of the Aristeia
characters since the game's launch last year
providing players with a different take on their favorite characters
much like the alternate skins you can pick up in Overwatch
The latest character to get this treatment is Laxmee Laibon
and Corvus Belli is going that extra mile to make sure that the new Laxmee sculpt represents the character's culture
a high-quality metal miniature – an alternative version of Laxmee (Soldiers of Fortune)
Corvus Belli leaves its comfort zone to make a miniature for a totally different genre
The source of inspiration for the Laxmee Laibon Shaman miniature comes from her strong African background
we decided that Laxmee's powers work just like those of a Masai shaman
this "was a logical step: the link between Laxmee and the shamanistic tradition was quite obvious
This was something we absolutely wanted to do
Although we kept the most characteristic features of the character
we have worked to make her Maasai heritage more prominent than ever."
The new miniature will include the Character card and the Initiative card with the new design in the four official languages of the game: Spanish
Let's be real for a minute here- miniature games
don't do the greatest job with representation
Most miniature ranges don't do the best job in representing more than the classic sci-fi or fantasy Caucasian world view
you can paint the skin tones different colors to try and emulate some ethnic diversity
but the facial structure of those miniatures is still largely based on Caucasion features
Companies like Corvus Belli that go out of their way to provide miniatures of heroic women
and different body types are showing the world that they can find themselves in that game
and that they don't have to search high and low to find a mini that represents them as an avatar on the table-top
This isn't the first time that Corvus Belli has focused on authentic ethnic features on their miniatures, either. Their characters of Asiatic descent have been the norm through the JSA and Yu-Jing miniature ranges, and people of Middle Eastern descent are prominent in the Haqqislam faction for Infinity
Here's an even better look at this fantastic new miniature:

The Argentine embassy in Madrid honored a Spanish fisherman from Galicia
as a Malvinas Veteran for services accomplished during the 1982 Falklands war
spying on the British Task Force as she approached the South Atlantic
The event took place on Argentina's National Day
According to the report read at the embassy ceremony to honor Mr
the story behind the third engineer was kept secret until very recently
but the fact is that 35 years ago as a crew member of the fishing vessel Usurbill he started to work for the Argentine government with clear instructions to report the best possible way to locate the Task Force
Allegedly the Argentine flagged fishing vessel was operating in the South Atlantic and only used the radio to contact Argentine military contacts which had provided instructions and a simple code to identify vessels
The spying started 17 days after the Task Force arrived to the battle theatre on 8 May 1982
and several times the fishing vessel was over flown by British helicopters and aircraft
and on several occasions believed they would be boarded
However another fishing vessel by the name of Narwal
which was involved in similar spying operations was not so lucky and was sunk by missiles with loss of lives and several crewmembers injured
The incident convinced the Usurbill and the Argentines that they should suspend operations
But Otero kept silent all these years about the mission accomplished 35 years ago
Otero was finally honored as a Malvinas Veteran
at the Argentine embassy by ambassador Ramon Puerta and the military attaché Julio Hoffman
when the nascent Argentine nation rebelled from the Spanish Crown
and is considered one of the main dates of the national calendar
A soul low grade 3rd engineer on a small fishing ship
secretly using the ships operating radios to file open air spying information on the activities on the Task Force
Like the Argie navy after the Belgrano was sunk
Ran back to port and stayed moored up there for the rest of the war or patrolling off the coast of Patagonia

Shipyards in Spain's Galicia region are defying the global financial crisis
creating hundreds of new jobs as order books fill up
largely by switching to the production of specialised high-technology vessels
"We are going through a good period which will allow us to stay afloat even if the crisis is affecting other sectors," said José Dominguez
head of development for the shipbuilding industry in the port of Vigo
The Vigo shipyards have full order books through 2012
in a remote and rugged northwestern region that is to vote on March 1 in elections for a new regional Parliament and which has been otherwise hard hit by the economic crisis affecting Spain as a whole
who is also financial head of the shipyard of Factorias Vulcano
explained: "Contracts currently being fulfilled were signed in 2006-2007
at the time of the great boom in shipbuilding throughout the world."
noting that the "process between the signing of the contract and the completion of the ship can take several years."
producing specialised ships featuring high-technology equipment
they produce vessels for transporting chemical or toxic products
ships involved in oil exploration or for constructing oil platforms
each costing between €80 million and €130 million
our ships are made-to-measure for our clients," mainly Norwegians
The shipyards have also reduced their costs
about 7,000 people work in the Vigo shipyards
The difference is that currently only 750 are permanent employees
The others work under contract," said Mr Dominguez
providing a ray of hope for the many workers in the construction or auto-making sector who have been made unemployed
"But we don't want to create false hope," said Mr Dominguez
"It's not a question of an automatic transfer of labour
if possible with experience in the sector."
Training courses are planned to provide workers for this engine of growth for the Galician economy in a time of global crisis
