The process was frustrating for the family because of the language barrier
found it difficult to communicate with their attorneys
to communicate with the attorneys on what needed to be done to become American citizens
His personal experience of navigating the immigration system convinced Campos that his career path was to become an immigration attorney
“I always had that in the back of my head,” Campos said
“There is a need for attorneys who can understand the actual needs of their client and humanize their needs.”
Before immigrating to the U.S., Campos earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey on its campus in his hometown of Mexico City. After he arrived in San Antonio, he joined the St. Mary’s University School of Law’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) in American Legal Studies Program
in American Legal Studies is a degree for internationally trained lawyers
This concentration is now available through an online course curriculum
Campos interned with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) — an organization with a history of protecting and defending the rights of Latinos in the U.S
— assisting the legal staff on litigation and legislative matters
he learned what it took to be a good attorney: “You need to put in the work in order to be successful.”
He also worked pro bono as an immigration attorney for the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) for the Karnes Pro Bono Project
He represented families and women detained at the Karnes County Residential Center
assisting them in their deportation defense

Professor of Law Al Kauffman, J.D.
taught Campos and described him as a very bright and curious student with the ability to listen to the concerns of those he represents
“He is able to talk to people and hear what their issues are and then represent them
He’s a person who’s willing to hear the client’s story and figure out how he can help with their issues.”
Campos is a partner and co-founder of Rivera Hernandez Campos PLLC in San Antonio
He represents individuals and businesses in the field of immigration and nationality law
Campos has worked on and argued hundreds of immigration cases during his career in immigration courts across the U.S.
Mary’s University School of Law Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) Council selected Campos as a GOLD Council 10 Under 10 honoree
which recognizes 10 outstanding alumni who graduated within the last 10 years and have shown extraordinary commitment to the law school
Campos described his selection as a 10 Under 10 awardee as a true honor
“I’m very thankful to the School of Law and everyone who nominated me,” Campos said
“Being honored for my work was something I had dreamt of; I couldn’t believe it
I am very thankful to the University.”

The Red Devils have had a shocking first season under INEOS, but they could still end the campaign with a trophy that will help them qualify for the Champions League
That would set United up nicely for the 2025/26 season and beyond
and the addition of a world-class director to bring in elite players will take them to the next level
Rumours have claimed that PSG supremo Campos is in talks with Manchester United to become their new sporting director
Fabrizio Romano has shared what he has been told
Manchester United parted ways with Dan Ashworth in December
Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell have taken control of the club’s transfer business since
but a renowned sporting director like Campos could make a world of difference
The 60-year-old, who brought through players like Kylian Mbappe
Victor Osimhen and Rafael Leao among others in the past
not just because Campos can attract big players
but also because he has a fantastic eye for brilliant young talent
Romano has claimed that there is nothing in these rumours
He said about Campos in a video on his YouTube channel: “We had links with Manchester United. But, I’m told, in this moment, Luis Campos is not negotiating with Manchester United
I understand the excitement because when there is a link with a director like Luis Campos
but Chelsea are very happy with their structure
It is unclear if Manchester United will appoint a new sporting director anytime soon
but they aren’t stopping their plans on the transfer front
Wilcox and Vivell have already started working on the summer window
and the Red Devils want to secure a couple of deals in the very near future
Manchester United are pushing to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves
and they are now in the driving seat for his signature ahead of other interested clubs
Liam Delap is another player Manchester United have made contact to sign
and the Ipswich Town striker will be available for just £30 million following his side’s relegation
Those two players will definitely improve United
but it remains to be seen if they can get those deals over the line in the coming weeks

(WKBW) — The transformation of LaSalle Park into the new Ralph Wilson Park is well underway
with significant progress made over the past several months
executive director of the Ralph Wilson Park Conservancy
highlighted the $110 million project’s advancements when I visited with her on Friday
and a lot of the work that we were doing was moving soils around,” Campos said
The construction focuses on creating trails
and managing the southern section of the 100-acre waterfront park
The goal of Ralph Wilson Park is to create a world-class community gathering place
Key highlights from Phase One of construction include the addition of two new lighted soccer fields that Campos emphasized will serve the entire West Side community
“Our kids are going to be able to play under the lights
some of the best soccer fields in the community right on the water,” said Campos
a newly constructed inlet along the south shoreline has already created a habitat for fish and wildlife
The planting of 2,600 new trees has also begun
with many sourced locally in Western New York
"The trees are a really important feature of the park for structural resiliency and creating a pleasant experience for visitors," Campos explained
The first phase of the park is expected to be completed later this year
with an official opening scheduled for the summer of 2026
Phase two will include the construction of ball fields

The recent appointment of Christopher Vivell has shown how seriously Manchester United are taking the recruitment side of the club
Former interim boss Ralf Rangnick recently pointed out how this has been the cause of United’s problems
Whether United are looking to add another new face to support and lead Vivell and Jason Wilcox is yet to be determined, with the duo’s reponsibility at the club growing since Dan Ashworth’s exit
Sacha Tavolieri reported Campos is holding talks with Manchester United to join the club
these claims were subsequently denied by Fabrizio Romano
who claimed there are no talks with the Red Devils
Romano reported: “Luis Campos attracting interest from several clubs but NO talks/negotiations with Man United.”

There is quite a lot to unpack here with the Luis Campos links
which have also been denied via other sources
Luis Campos actually expressed interest about joining Manchester United way back in 2019
when the club were still hesitant to actually appoint a sporting director
and Ed Woodward still ran day to day operations
stated: “Manchester United is an amazing club with an amazing story; it’s difficult to understand what has happened
“Of course I believe I could help Manchester United
so only a special situation will make me change a project.”
Manchester United lacked the nous back then to bring Campos aboard, eventually hiring John Murtough internally to be the club’s sporting director in 2021
United are still undoing some of the mistakes of the Murtough era
and has plotted their post-Kylian Mbappe overhaul
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos took over football operations at United in late 2023 and have been putting their stamp on the club
Initially this came with the appointment of Dan Ashworth – who was stunningly fired after a few months
Ineos were subsequently tipped to follow Luis Campos’ situation at PSG
Back in 2022, one year before Ratcliffe’s takeover was approved, French outlet Le Parisien claimed the billionaire was interested in hiring Luis Campos as Manchester United’s sporting director
showing he can deliver at a big club with expectations like PSG
The chances of Campos departing PSG are very real
with the enigmatic recruitment chief yet to commit his future to the club
Goal report succession planning is already rapidly underway
with a replacement for Campos already identified
PSG are looking to appoint Antero Henrique
who was the sporting director at the club between 2017 and 2019 and is still highly regarded internally
This would make it easier for Manchester United to land Campos
if there was a desire – but at present it really is not expected that the Red Devils are looking to overcomplicate the existing structure
Given the history of Ratcliffe’s admiration for Campos
and his previous expressed interest in working at United
it would not be a surprise if this changed
but at present a move is not actively happening
Sporting director Luís Campos is yet to agree a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain
and Get French Football News understands that the sporting director is in talks with a major European club
is the architect of a squad that comfortably wrapped up a fourth-consecutive Ligue 1 title at the start of April and is now challenging to win the UEFA Champions League
As Arsenal prepare to visit the Parc des Princes on Wednesday
Les Parisiens hold a 1-0 lead in their semi-final
there is still uncertainty regarding Campos’ future
There is still no agreement over a contract renewal; his current deal expires at the end of the season
GFFN understands that there is strong interest from the Premier League
We also understand that the PSG sporting director is already in talks with a big European club

a series of interviews between women visual artists

Tara Anne Dalbow How was the experience of putting together a show that spans nearly four decades of your career
María Magdalena Campos-Pons I have to say first that the whole team who put this together
led by Mazie Harris at the Getty Center and Carmen Hermo at the Brooklyn Museum
did a beautiful job going through the archive and bringing forward work that’s never been shown in the United States and pairing photographs and sculptures that have never been seen or considered together
which has gold-leaf footprints crossing over colored tiles and is concerned with tracing the paths of women from the cities surrounding Padua
I made in Canada in 1990 with tiny footprints coming out from my belly button and images of women from my family lineage
Reflecting on connections like that across decades
and materials was full of surprises and very enriching for me
TAD What was your relationship to archives
MMCP Many people from my background live with an archive that is primarily oral
composed mostly of conversations between family members
I grew up with very few photographs of my family history because we didn’t own a camera
So I’ve been very intentionally trying to work through what that means socially and culturally
like in my sculpture installation History of a People Who Were Not Heroes: A Town Portrait (1994) that gathers conversations with my mother
and grand uncles about how they remember a town we don’t have many images of
narrated to me verbally in being made from those conversations and some of my own memories of growing up there too
It was only through language and access to that language that I was able to create a material form
I’m interested in what you do when there isn’t a physical archive
What does the archive look like in those circumstances
but I wonder if you also see it as an archive
it’s an archive: it’s a carrier of geographies
and desires—your own but also those of bodies that have come before you
Like my mother: How often did she tell me that there were things she wished she could do but couldn’t and so hoped for me to do them for her
I feel myself as a continuing vessel of this space of intention
including my mother’s and all the previous generations
and expand is very beautiful in so many ways that we’re living too quickly to pay attention to
TAD How do you understand that space where ancestral lineage and collective history intersect with your time here and with your personal narrative and memories
and family in which the passage of time is viewed very differently
He also told me that I had eyes in my back—that is why there are so many eyes in my art—because he understood how sensitive and perceptive I was
What I want to say is that there’s a kind of acceptance and visibility of the other bodies that appear in our bodies
It’s sort of a dream space in which you can be in several places at once in your mind and your heart
and you may not be able to describe those experiences
but you can feel them or intuit them almost metaphysically
Dreams and what they reveal about the future
They’re connected to a level of consciousness responsible for creativity
and the stamina to make and create what’s never before existed
Our existence and our brains are far more complex than we’ll ever be able to comprehend
is one of the vehicles that allows us to get closer to some truth about it
can you tell me a little about Santería and its enduring influence on your practice
MMCP I can tell you that I’m a woman born into a tradition and that I continue to carry within myself that particular energy
that way of seeing and responding to the world; that a lot of what I know I did not learn linearly
but comes from intuition and DNA; and that I study it with a sense of responsibility and intentionality
but that I’m not an initiated practitioner of Santería
I did a piece in 2003 called The Calling about my commitment to becoming a priest
but a priest not of any specific spiritual tradition but of art
and I’m very methodical and practical about how I interpret and respond to that calling
Starting Gallery Artists Studio Projects in Brookline
Democracy and Justice at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee are examples of responses
I’m always asking questions about the meaning of art: what it’s doing
Every single piece that I do is part of the quest for that answer
I think that the meaning and beauty of my own practice and other artists’ practices are the questions we ask
TAD How have you been able to make your art and activism so nearly indistinguishable
I discovered that I was an artist and that I was interested in people
TAD Around the time you realized you had eyes on your back
I couldn’t deny or ignore what was happening around me because I saw it from every angle of my body
So I had to figure out what to do with this kind of perceptual grasp
People don’t become artists unless making art is what makes being alive and having a self possible
I wouldn’t be a writer and certainly not of poetry
and it’s because you have poetry coming out of your mind
and the same little demon that tells them when they see a light to go find out what it is; but the light moves and will continue to move
But what you asked me about was service and social engagement
I think it goes back to questions and responding to questions
My programs are all responses to questions about society and things in society I’m not satisfied with
I don’t sit on the side and wait for an answer
but you must invest and participate in what you want to see happening around you
especially if you want it to happen differently
TAD During this bout of social and political “extreme weather,” as you might call it
I am and have always been utterly romantic
While there’s been enough disregard for human experience to bring anyone to the point of cynicism
I just cannot function in that kind of negativity; so no matter what
we are no doubt evolving and no doubt moving forward
but that we evolve and move forward with such a limitation of visibility that we are often trapped in the step behind or trapped in our fear of progress
and it’s my interest in this point in time that we’re alive
I’m interested in finding what can make us sensible to each other
we cannot deny the similarities between us
Art helps because good art always touches you where you’re most human
Everyone has experienced that gut feeling before
and it doesn’t matter what kind of art it is; all that matters is that you’ve felt it
that you’ve felt what it means to be human
TAD You often talk about love with regard to your work
so my last question is a simple one about the most essential thing: What does it look like to practice love or act with love right now as a person in the world
MMCP A young kid and a middle-aged man in a field with a soccer ball
An old lady sitting in a corner sipping a little something
A grandmother and a kid walking together hand in hand
Just giving a good answer to a stranger who asks you a question
Love is all about recognizing in others your own needs and vulnerabilities
To spend your day in the service of your best capacity knowing that you might not wake up the next morning—that is love
What I need to tell you is that the only salvation there is is in understanding and practicing love
I will go to my hotel room and do something in the name of radical love
This question has energized something in me
I will call you sometime soon and tell you about it

That's where he says the woman will go through immigration court
but she will be required to check in with U.S
Campos had originally said the newborn baby was a boy based on information from a source inside Tucson Medical Center
After meeting the woman and her baby in person
he confirmed the baby is a girl named Emily
Customs and Border Protection told KGUN 9 that the woman and her child were transferred to U.S
A court date before an immigration judge has been set
The woman's attorney Luis Campos says he has been able to contact his client over the phone
He says she is no longer facing expedited removal from the country
Campos says both the woman and her baby are "in good spirits."
KGUN 9 has reached out to ICE and are waiting for a response
A Guatemalan woman who just gave birth at Tucson Medical Center could be facing expedited removal with her baby
according to Tucson immigration attorney Luis Campos
the woman was apprehended at eight months pregnant after crossing into the country at the U.S.-Mexico border
They say "She has not yet been formally processed and no formal proceedings have commenced."
Campos says he is hoping to get an asylum hearing
but he has been unable to see or speak to his client
the woman will be given the opportunity to contact an attorney once processing is complete
Campos says a Department of Homeland Security guard stationed outside the woman's hospital room prevented him from entering
saying she would contact him after being discharged to a local migrant processing facility
CBP confirmed she was discharged from TMC Friday
though Campos says the baby is still in the hospital
Under the expedited removal process— which Campos says is common at the border or ports on entry— non-citizens can be deported without a trial
He says the woman was only in the United States a few days before giving birth
He says he spoke to her mother over the phone who told "a pretty harrowing story of violence that she faced."
He said he believes it could qualify as persecution
agents followed the law and adhered to CBP procedures
As for the baby— who is a United States citizen— Campos says the mother was given the choice to either leave her baby behind or take him with her
Campos says that gives her "no decision."
Read the full statement sent to KGUN 9 by the Department of Homeland Security:
"CBP agents apprehended a Guatemalan woman
who illegally crossed into the United States from Mexico between ports of entry near Tres Bellotas Ranch
she was taken to a local hospital for evaluation
where she remained under medical care until being discharged today
She has not yet been formally processed and no formal proceedings have commenced
there is no statutory right to an attorney in immigration proceedings until a Notice to Appear has been issued
Once her processing is complete and an NTA is issued
she will be given the opportunity to contact an attorney
Campos said he was originally contacted about the case by someone familiar with the situation inside TMC

Campos trying to hit for more powerApril 15th
Roberto Campos has made no secret of his desire to hit for more power
It has been the focus of his work at the plate the last couple years
“I’ve just been working on hitting the ball hard
hitting line drives,” Campos said in Spring Training
I’ve just been working on that with my swing.”
Through just under two weeks at Double-A Erie, the solid contact for Campos – the Tigers’ No. 22 prospect – is there
And as the 21-year-old Cuban slugger adjusts to a new level after two years at High-A West Michigan
he doesn’t show signs of being overwhelmed
As the SeaWolves open a six-game homestand Tuesday night against another prospect-loaded roster with Guardians-affiliated Akron
Campos is 9-for-25 (.360) with four RBIs and six runs scored
None of Campos’ hits have gone for extra bases
he has reached base safely in 13 of 29 plate appearances while striking out just five times
Campos has hit safely in all six of his games since an 0-for-4 Opening Day against Harrisburg
He went 7-for-17 with five runs against the Orioles-affiliated Chesapeake BaySox
including a three-hit game last Wednesday and a two-hit
Campos’ start so far has been better than his opening months the last two seasons at West Michigan
when he hit .247 and .250 in April with two home runs combined
Those two years suggest his power emerges as the weather warms and the at-bats accumulate
With UPMC Park’s friendly dimensions for right-handed power hitters
Campos’ progression should be fun to watch
It was among the reasons his promotion came with intrigue going into the season
“I think the one thing with Campos is he’s done a really good job
and he’s got to get the ball in the air more
He knows that,” Tigers assistant general manager Ryan Garko said at last month’s Spring Breakout game
“He hits the ball really hard and he continues to get better and better
He’s still young but he also hasn’t played a lot
He’s getting a better handle on breaking balls and getting the ball in the air more
We’re excited to see him in probably a little more offensive environment.”
Much of Campos’ contact so far has been on the ground; his 57.9 percent ground-ball rate in a small sample size would be a career high according to Fangraphs
while his 15.8 percent line-drive rate would be a career low
he’s still pulling the ball at a solid rate of 40 percent
It's a pragmatic approach for a slugger nearly two years below the weighted average age for the Eastern League
All but three of his plate appearances have come against pitchers older than him

Hilda Campos was born into eternal life on March 20th
at her residence surrounded by her husband Elio Campos
and many loved ones that came to visit prior to taking her last breath and running into the arms of Jesus Christ
Surviving siblings include her sisters Janie
she loved to be sitting outside or gardening
Rarely would you see her without makeup on or her nails painted
and she was definitely the one that would be dancing at every event
Just a few short days ago she was reminiscing with her nephew Juan (Carol) about how she could beat anyone at pool and how she had people that would line up to play against her
she grabbed his hand to get out of bed stating "let's go"
Clearly she still had a zest for life and family
Her biggest passion in life was definitely her love for God
She and Elio attended Grace church for approximately 10 years prior to the unfortunate circumstances that had disabled their ability to continue to attend
Her faith was expressed in just about every conversation she would have
She was a strong-willed woman with a big heart for her children
and an even bigger heart for her grandchildren
Hilda worked in healthcare for a majority of her life
She was preceded in death by her granddaughters Marcella and Rya

Dozens of workers have been treated for injuries following a fire on an oil platform off the coast of Brazil operated by the state-owned energy giant Petrobras
According to the Norte Fluminense Oil Workers’ Union (Sindicato dos Petroleiros do Norte Fluminense)
a fire occurred on the platform PCH-1 in the morning of April 21
the fire was brought under control around 11:25 a.m
One of the workers fell into the sea during the accident
The 176 non-essential workers were then evacuated from the platform
and gas flow from the unit was stopped as a safety measure
while others had to undergo medical treatment due to inhaling smoke
what we are seeing today are the practical consequences of the dismantling of the national oil industry
It is no coincidence that accidents like this have become more frequent,” highlighted the Union
The PCH-1 platform is located in the Campos Basin
This and the PCH-2 platform were hibernated by Petrobras in early 2020 and later scheduled for decommissioning
The two fixed platforms form part of the Cherne and Bagre concessions, comprising the Cherne and Bagre fields. Perenco hopes to revitalize these after the acquisition of the assets from Petrobras closes

A Guatemalan woman who gave birth in Tucson after crossing the Arizona desert while 35 weeks pregnant has been released from the hospital with her baby and transferred to an immigration processing center
The woman no longer appears to be at risk of rapid deportation proceedings and has been given a notice to appear
placing her in normal deportation proceedings
a Tucson-based immigration attorney representing the woman
"This is very good news as it places her in regular deportation proceedings
as opposed to expedited proceedings," Campos wrote to The Arizona Republic on May 3
"Regular proceedings place her in (the) immigration court system with an opportunity to fight her case and ask for asylum."
On the border: Employers who hire illegal workers play role in migrant deaths, Border Patrol chief says
The attorney spoke with the woman for the first time on the night of May 2
the woman told him that both she and her U.S
"(The) mother was completely unaware of the swell of support and controversy over her case," Campos said
"I believe that the public support for her and the outcry for what was happening might have helped in this case."
Customs and Border Protection released a statement May 3 about Erika and her child
confirming that the child remains with the mother
The agency added that "the woman was transferred to ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations with a court date to appear before an immigration judge."
Initial reporting indicated that the woman was facing expedited removal
She had the option to either bring her newborn with her when she was deported or leave the baby in the U.S.
a CBP spokesperson told The Arizona Daily Star
It’s not yet known if the woman will be released from federal custody pending her immigration hearing
wandered the desert for two days with only a water bottle after entering the U.S
She made the trek almost nine months pregnant
leaving her home country "for fear of violence," her attorney said

I want to express my immense excitement about the future of UTSA Athletics
It’s no secret that college athletics is experiencing significant change at a rapid pace
While this transformation may bring challenges to programs across the nation
the opportunity to directly support our student-athletes on their academic journeys has never been greater
NCAA proposed settlement have – and will – all dramatically modify the ways in which we operate
If the House settlement is fully approved this spring
UTSA Athletics is well prepared for this moment and we will continue to be proactive in our efforts to adapt and thrive in this new landscape
Throughout my tenure as UTSA’s Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics
we have been committed to providing the best environment possible for our nearly 400 student-athletes
as we fully fund each of our sport programs
provide first-class programming in student-athlete development
but the way in which we deliver it will evolve
New legislation will allow us to provide additional financial arrangements to our student-athletes
while offering increased roster opportunities and additional scholarship support
which we will take along with our American Athletic Conference peers
will be critical as we move into a new future of college athletics
we will have to change the way we operate and will need your continued increasing support to generate additional revenue
you will find two important updates: (1) A summary of the changes we anticipate from the House v
NCAA proposed settlement and (2) A roadmap of our BOLD approach to the future
These updates will provide the latest information about our commitment to the development of our student-athletes and their future success
it will take each and every one of us coming together to provide support
Please know that while we are committed to our approach
we are also prepared to make any necessary adjustments as the landscape continues to evolve
NCAA is the consolidation of class action lawsuits filed by former student-athletes against the NCAA and the Power Five conferences
regarding rules that prohibited student-athletes from earning compensation for the commercial use of their Name
NCAA proposed settlement will conclude three active lawsuits that challenge current NCAA rules regarding payments to student-athletes
The hearing on final approvement of the settlement is set for April 7
Past Damages: As part of the House settlement
the NCAA will pay approximately $2.8 billion over 10 years to more than 14,000 former and current student-athletes
Image and Likeness activities that are now permissible
While the lawsuit only focuses on student-athletes at Power Four institutions
the settlement calls for all NCAA Division I institutions to contribute to past damages
It is difficult to precisely estimate the full financial impact but we project that UTSA will pay close to $5 million over the 10-year period via reduced revenue distribution from the NCAA
Revenue Sharing: Under the terms of the House settlement
institutions would be allowed to share revenue directly with student-athletes
I know there have been many questions about revenue sharing models
financial figures and the support we will be able to provide to our student-athletes
We have been diligently planning for revenue sharing with student-athletes and I look forward to detailing this plan in the near term
We are closely coordinating with the American Athletic Conference and our colleagues across the conference on establishing revenue sharing thresholds
All of the conference members will observe and coordinate their plans around these developments
UTSA uses annual budget-setting processes and protocols that are approved by the UT System and are part of discussions held with the State and legislature during legislative sessions
Budgets set for Athletics follow this annual cycle during the September 1 to August 31 fiscal year
all sources available for revenue sharing are being evaluated
Title IX Implications for Revenue Sharing: We are committed to Title IX and gender equity at UTSA and in our Athletics program
the United States Department of Education Office for Civil Rights offered guidance that NIL money paid to college athletes should be held to the same gender-equity standards as athletic scholarships
We will be closely monitoring these developments
When UTSA transitioned into the American Athletic Conference in the summer of 2023
we challenged each and every person associated with our program to BE BOLD about our aspirations and the ways in which we operate
We will need your continued increasing support to generate additional revenue
Roadrunner Game Plan: Soon after my arrival at UTSA
we put our energy into the Roadrunner Game Plan
a comprehensive strategic plan that has helped us create a culture of excellence for our student-athletes in academics and athletics
and has unified the San Antonio community in support of our Roadrunners
The Roadrunner Game Plan focuses on three winning values – Excellence
Integrity and Unity – to enhance our student-athlete experience and a core set of pillars and priorities
our administrative leadership team has been revising and refining the pillars of the Roadrunner Game Plan to prepare for our new reality
We have been evaluating every aspect of our operating procedures and structure with the terms of the House settlement in mind
streamlining our approach for a successful future
Institutional Support: President Eighmy has been an incredible supporter and advocate of UTSA Athletics
Executive Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Enterprise Development Officer
he has been committed to maximizing institutional support of our athletics program
our athletics budget has increased from $24.5 million in FY18 to $48.3 million in FY25
with the majority of that funding coming from institutional support
we have also invested approximately $50 million into the creation of the Roadrunner Athletics Center for Excellence and the Park West Field House with the tremendous partnership of Bexar County and the City of San Antonio
I announced the commitment of an additional $57 million into athletics facilities with much of that funding coming from the institution
This includes a Basketball and Volleyball Training Facility and player development centers for baseball and softball
Eighmy and EVP Salazar’s innovative approach to providing institutional support
including the sale of university land at Park West
has been invaluable to UTSA and UTSA Athletics
I am also grateful for the support of the Roadrunner Foundation and President Gene Dawson for their leadership in this area
NIL Management: Changes in legislation over the past year allows universities and athletics departments to be more directly involved in NIL efforts
I am grateful that we have been able to be more hands-on in working with our collectives
creating Runners United and being able to promote and support our student-athletes’ NIL efforts
we are hiring an NIL General Manager dedicated to managing NIL engagement with our student-athletes in all sports
Supporters can join the McCombs Society with a minimum pledge of $25,000 over a five-year period or an annual cash gift of $25,000 or more
I am especially grateful to Marsha Shields and the McCombs Family for their initial gift of $100,000 to the Bold Champions Campaign as part of the McCombs Society
Ticket Models: Through our partnership with Playfly
we are working with Aspire to examine ticket pricing and new ticketing opportunities for football
including ways that will support revenue sharing with our student-athletes
including potential increases for the upcoming season
we have installed chairback reserved seats at our baseball and softball facilities that include seat contributions to the Roadrunner Athletic Fund
We have also implemented seat contributions to reserved season tickets at men’s and women’s basketball games
as well as courtside seating at volleyball
These contributions directly enhance the resources we are able to provide to our student-athletes
Premium opportunities at the Alamodome will be expanded starting with the 2025 season
will open in the South End Zone in addition to renovations to existing suites throughout the Alamodome
Fiscal Review: Sound fiscal management has always been a priority and all of our staff has been deeply committed to the most efficient use of our operating budgets to provide resources that support our student-athletes
We continue to regularly evaluate our budgets and our spending to ensure our dollars are being used effectively
Game Day Experience Enhancements: This past football season we created fun game day experience enhancements for our fans that allowed you the opportunity to be part of the action
This included early-bird access and sideline access to the Alamodome
as well as the opportunity to put your special message on the video boards at the Alamodome and Convocation Center
The revenue from these experiences goes to directly support our student-athletes
The offering of these types of experiences will only increase in future years
we partnered with our food and beverage provider
and the Alamodome to directly support our student-athletes through a concessions round-up program
At participating Alamodome concession stands
fans were able to round up their total to the nearest dollar to support our student-athletes
This was a great and convenient way for all fans to provide support
We’ll continue to seek these types of opportunities moving forward
but every cent really does make a difference
Special Events: We will continue to work with our Runners United collectives to create events within the next year that support NIL efforts
I have no doubt the future is bright as we collectively create the very best experience for our student-athletes

LA JOLLA, CA—La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI) Assistant Professor Miguel Reina-Campos, Ph.D., has been granted $1.3 million from the W. M. Keck Foundation to support new cancer research
Reina-Campos leads research into how we might use the body’s own T cells to fight tumors
Reina-Campos will investigate how we might give T cells a boost using energy stored up in a cell’s “epigenome.”
No one has tried this before,” says LJI President & CEO Erica Ollmann Saphire
“Miguel’s work will show us how to harness a hidden energy source inside T cells to fuel their fight against cancer
This research holds enormous potential to transform the field of cancer immunotherapy.”
The epigenome is a powerful player in our cells
The epigenome is a vast collection of chemicals that attach to our genetic code (The name epigenome boils down to “on top of the genome”)
These chemical “ornaments” are important because they control how our cells read our genes to produce proteins
not all of the epigenome might necessarily be involved with gene regulation,” says Reina-Campos
This research has led Reina-Campos to a fascinating possibility
“What if cells use their epigenome as a metabolic reservoir?” says Reina-Campos
Reina-Campos wonders if T cells could utilize their own epigenome as a metabolic depot to fuel their functions
Reina-Campos’s idea is based on the fact that these same chemical ornaments can power important metabolic processes inside of a cell
“Establishing this novel biological concept could transform how we think about the epigenome and its connection to metabolism,” says Reina-Campos
If T cells are tapping into the epigenome—that raises another interesting question
“What if we could leverage the epigenome to power cellular metabolism in situations where T cells need it?” says Reina-Campos
so cancer-fighting T cells are especially desperate for fuel
Reina-Campos thinks the epigenome might also help T cells fight tumors—and this can be engineered into cellular immunotherapies
For the new study, Reina-Campos will collaborate with colleagues in LJI’s Center for Cancer Immunotherapy, including LJI Associate Professor Ferhat Ay, Ph.D.
who uses computational and statistical modeling to understand the genetic and epigenetic bases of gene regulation
“This collaboration was instrumental in us getting this award,” says Reina-Campos
“We are proposing to tweak the epigenome

The update comes from Sky journalist Sacha Tavolieri who has claimed advanced talks have started between United and Campos
“Luis Campos’ future is about to take a decisive turn
In the absence of an agreement for his extension with PSG
the Portuguese sports advisor is in advanced negotiations with a “big” European club whose identity will soon be revealed

“And the European club is… Manchester United
Advanced talks underway between Luis Campos and the Red Devils,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter)
PSG head coach Luis Enrique has been pushing the club to try and keep hold of Campos but he increasingly looks likely to be on the way out
— Sacha Tavolieri (@sachatavolieri) May 4, 2025
The Portuguese has been credited with changing the Parisian giants’ outlook from only signing big-name stars to now focussing on players with potential
This change has reaped dividends with PSG just a step away from the Champions League final
United had decided to sack Dan Ashworth after only five months in the job despite spending big money on acquiring his signature from Newcastle while also waiting a long time for him
Initially there were reports that INEOS would restructure their hierarchy
thereby increasing Jason Wilcox’s remit but the hunt for a sporting director had been going on in the background
Links with Campos had emerged earlier as well with Arsenal also looking at him at one point
Campos is known for discovering young players who have since gone on to become world-beaters with the likes of Bernardo Silva
Rafael Leao and Victor Osimhen being just a few of them
this report turns out to be true and United can get their man in before the summer window
INEOS will hope he can subsequently work his magic at Old Trafford and help the Red Devils return to the top of the English football pyramid

I am from Mexico City, from a neighborhood called Tepito. Everyone classifies it as dangerous, but to me Tepito is a barrio full of hardworking people who get up every day to earn their daily bread. That’s what I saw growing up. That’s the Tepito I know, despite its reputation.
My first football memory was when I played on my dad's team when I was little. The field was dirt. I didn't like football, but little by little I started to enjoy it and eventually I fell in love with it.
My dad was the one who pushed me. He was always tough on me because he saw something in me. He worked hard to support our family, he was always there for me, encouraging me to play and to reach my potential.
I played striker as a child, and my favorite player was Ronaldinho. He was near the end of his career at that time, so he didn’t run as much as he used to, but I watched him every chance I could. After him, it was Messi. He is still one of my favorites. As far as players who play my position, Marcelo—the great Brazilian left back who played for Real Madrid for so many years—he was the player I followed and learned from by watching him play.
I first realized I had a chance to play professionally when I was seven or eight years old. I started to see my own qualities. I started to see what I could give. My dad also saw that I could do something more. His belief in me pushed me to become a professional player.
I joined the youth academy of [Liga MX club] Santos Laguna when I was 14. I relocated to Torreón, a thousand miles north of our home in Mexico City. I was so far from my parents, my siblings, my friends. It was hard. I felt alone. I wanted to go home. But I stuck with it.

In the offseasons, my dad and I worked for Uber Eats. I worked every day, picking up the orders and delivering them on my motorcycle. Sometimes they would give you a tip. Sometimes not. I will never forget those moments. But that's how it was at the beginning. We didn't have any money. Well, we had some, but not enough to eat well. That situation motivated us to push forward, to try and reach my dream of playing professionally so we wouldn’t be in a situation of crisis.
I like pushing forward as a player as well. I have always liked to attack. I was a forward for most of my life. I enjoy applying pressure and creating chances for my team. I have always been fast, which helped me as a forward, and then when I was moved to winger, and later when I was moved to my current position, left back. That’s where I made my professional debut for Santos Laguna, at age 18.
When I was playing for Santos Laguna, I used to watch MLS games. That’s when I first took notice of LAFC. It seemed the club was always winning, playing exciting football, competing for trophies. When I learned that there was a possibility of me coming here earlier this year, I didn't hesitate. It was a fast transition. Within two weeks of learning that LAFC was a possibility for me, I was here.
The style of play in MLS is different than in Liga MX. The style here is very touch-and-move, which I was not used to. I have more confidence now than when I first arrived. I am combining more [exchanging passes in the attack]. I’m confident that I will continue to raise my level here.
My main goals now are to keep helping our team win, and to maintain my position in the starting eleven. Ryan [Hollingshead] is a great player who plays the position very well. The competition between me and Ryan and Sergi [Palencia] has been a healthy one and a professional one. I will continue giving 100 percent so that I can start games and hopefully finish them, too.
My parents are still in Mexico. They don't have a visa, they can't come here to L.A., so obviously I miss them. But we are always together. I have a sister, Stephanie, who is four years older than I am, and a brother, Johan, who is nine years younger. We have always been very close, all of us. My sister has two daughters. I am a proud uncle to my nieces Ingrid and Sharon, whom I love very much.

but when I got the opportunity to come to LAFC
My girlfriend’s choice to come with me has really helped my transition to this new environment
Hopefully my parents will be able to visit soon
but I have already had a few memorable experiences
and the second game I played for LAFC was played in a snowstorm that turned everything completely white
More than anything I have enjoyed the team's triumphs
celebrating the victories with my teammates
Our home environment at BMO Stadium has also been an unexpected experience
Our people are always cheering and supporting
my eyes are being opened to my own quality
to what I can give to a championship-level team

People online wondered whether it was a Freudian slip from the host
who happens to be the wife of Donald Trump's transportation secretary
Rachel Campos-Duffy, a Fox News anchor and the wife of President Donald Trump’s Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, appeared to coin a new antigay slur Thursday night during a segment attacking former Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg — a popular target on the right
In a riff prompted by a chyron that read “Mayor Pete: Dems are finger waggers,” Campos-Duffy launched into a tirade questioning Buttigieg’s masculinity
“He’s clearly gotten the masculinity problem memo
He’s pretending not to be a beta,” she said
“He grew a beard and he hit the manosphere
A clip of Buttigieg from the show aired next
“I do think my party needs to do a much better job
especially with the kind of finger wagging that you're talking about
I think we are very prone to that,” he said
“You get this sense of moral conviction and you're so sure of it that you start to think it makes it okay to be an asshole.”
“Isn’t Pete the worst virtue-signaling winger fagger?” she remarked
before quickly correcting herself and saying “wagger."
with some viewers accusing Campos-Duffy of using a veiled slur targeting Buttigieg’s sexuality
“FREUDIAN SLIP??” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter)
“Rachel Campos-Duffy (whom I love) did a segment on the Jesse Watters show today about the ‘finger wagging Democrats’ and then this happened!”
A Fox News spokesperson told The Advocate that Campos-Duffy misspoke and pointed to her quickly correcting herself
which focused on Buttigieg’s widely praised appearance on the popular comedy podcast Flagrant
also featured Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo
who mocked Buttigieg’s masculinity and outreach to younger male voters
“Mayor Pete is not exactly the one you send out to get the young bro crowd,” Arroyo said
“You may as well send Dylan Mulvaney doing a makeup class and hope you can get more guys.”
Campos-Duffy followed up Arroyo’s jab by taking aim at Buttigieg’s appearance: “Funny how we thought throwing the beard would somehow change everything
who served as President Joe Biden’s transportation secretary and remains one of the most high-profile openly gay politicians in the country
recently appeared on Flagrant for a nearly three-hour conversation about masculinity
Buttigieg discussed raising adopted Black twins with his husband Chasten
and advocating for equitable economic policy and AI regulation
That tone, however, stood in stark contrast to the mocking Fox News segment — and the personal nature of the attacks drew sharp condemnation from LGBTQ+ advocates and allies
a Democratic strategist and longtime adviser to Buttigieg
Arroyo and his spray-painted hairline and spackled-on foundation and service to the country of commentating on partisan TV to demonstrate to us what ‘real’ masculinity is.”
Buttigieg has not publicly addressed the remarks
but his defenders argue that the reaction of the right-wing media only proves how deeply his message resonated
“Pete’s intelligence and singular ability to articulate his ideas to any audience gets like a mile under the skin of these pathetic frauds,” one person on X wrote

A heartfelt homecoming for Rafael Campos in Puerto Rico
The following is a letter written by PGA TOUR winner Rafael Campos to his daughter Paola, who was born just days before his first victory at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
If there’s one thing I hope to teach you in this life, it’s the power of never giving up. The power of embracing your journey every step of the way, even when it twists and turns in ways you never expected. Because, mi amor, you never know what Papito Dios has in store for you. I know I didn’t. And I wouldn’t change a thing.
Our paths are never linear, and God knows they are rarely easy. But no matter what road you choose to follow, know that I will always be by your side. Sharing your dreams, carrying your struggles, and making sure you reach for what sets your soul on fire with the same belief that your grandparents, Tata and Tuto, gave me.
I was born with a huge advantage. I had parents who showed me that perseverance and family love could move mountains, and my greatest hope is that, one day, you’ll feel the same. I can only teach you from experience, and for me, that rocky, uncertain road to my dream was the path to the PGA TOUR.
And then, just days after you were born, I finally won. Some say you arrived in this world carrying a trophy under your arm, but to me, you were already the greatest blessing long before I understood what winning truly felt like.

But my journey didn’t start with that victory in Bermuda. It started years ago, right here in Puerto Rico — the island we are lucky enough to call home.
The music from the island will always beat in your heart, guiding you as you choose the wonderful person I know you’ll be. God knows that’s what your Tata and Tuto did for me … and it changed my life.
My love for golf started by accident. One day, when I was still a kid, Tuto got invited to a round of golf — a game he had never even played before. Somehow, I ended up tagging along with Tío Nando and our cousins, all of us having never held a club in our hands. While they played, we were left on the driving range, killing time, swinging at balls with no idea what we were doing.
A few hours, countless buckets of balls, and a mix of baseball and tennis swings later, something unexpected happened. I had already tried every sport and loved them all for different reasons, but with golf … something clicked.

There are moments in life when you just know. A deep, unshakable feeling settles in, telling you this is it. It happened when your mom and I reunited after years apart and realized that beyond friendship, we were meant for each other. It happened the first time I hit a golf ball so cleanly that I felt it in my bones. And, mi vida, it happened the first time I held you in my arms.
I will never impose my dreams onto you. Whatever passion you find, whatever path you choose, I will nurture it as if it were my own. You never have to follow any road other than the one that calls to you, and I will always be here to support you.
Following your dreams is never easy, but let me tell you, it is worth it. I’ve walked through every stage possible in professional golf. From mini-tours to the PGA TOUR, back down to the Korn Ferry Tour and back up again, I’ve lived the cycle of hope, hard work, breakthrough, and heartbreak more times than I can count. I’ve doubted myself more than I’d like to admit, and I won’t pretend there weren’t times I questioned whether I could keep going.
And, mi princesa, you will have those moments, too. There will be times when doubt creeps in, when setbacks feel heavier than progress, and when you wonder if getting up is even possible. But when that day comes, hear my voice in your heart telling you: "Get up. Keep going."
Know this: You will never have to do it alone.

Reaching out for help doesn’t make you weak; it makes you stronger. For me, that lesson led me back to something I had dreamed of since I was a little kid — my first win on the PGA TOUR.
Our strength comes from God and the people who surround us, from those who walk with us through our journey. The ones who share your tears when you struggle will be the same ones who celebrate you the hardest when you rise. I learned that the week I won in Bermuda.
Ever since I can remember, winning on the PGA TOUR has been my Everest. And yet, in the week I reached its peak, all I could think about was you and your mom waiting for me back home. You are my biggest dream.
That entire week, I played with a sense of peace I had never felt before. I wasn’t thinking about the leaderboard, making the cut, or what the win would mean for my career.
And, mi princesa, there is no greater feeling than loving and being loved this much.
There’s so much about our culture I can’t wait for you to experience, so much I want you to feel. Puerto Rico is special. It’s a place where people you’ve never met will root for you and celebrate you as if you were family. Because, in many ways, they are.
Throughout my youth, and into my early days in professional golf, the passion for our island has beat strongly in my heart. It still rings true, and always will, and it was met equally by Boricuas everywhere after my proudest professional moment because that victory belonged to all of us.
My love for this island has been my greatest strength. And if there’s one thing you will learn, it’s that Puerto Ricans are bonded by our unshakable pride. We celebrate each other’s victories as if they were our own.

Mi princesa, life will test you. There will be moments when you feel like you have nothing left to give and when the road ahead feels too steep to climb. But, when that day comes, promise me you won’t quit. Accept the challenges, embrace the setbacks, and never stop chasing what sets your heart on fire.
I hope that you never stop believing in yourself, in your passions, and in the people who love you.
My biggest wish for you in this life, mi princesa, is for your heart to keep you moving forward. No matter how strong you are, no matter what passion you follow, there is going to be a time when you’re going to get hit so hard you are going to fall, but know that we are always going to be there to help you up because giving up on your dreams comes at too high a cost. Because giving up on yourself is the only thing you’ll ever regret more than failing.
And above all, know that I love you more than I’ve ever dreamt possible.

Campos underwent extensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) before TSA deputized him as an FFDO
“FFDOs are qualified pilots who volunteer to complete an intensive one-week training program at FLETC to carry a federally issued firearm and defend the flight deck of commercial and cargo aircraft against acts of air piracy or criminal violence,” explained TSA Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (LE/FAMS) Aviation Programs Branch Manager Denise D
“FFDOs are a critical component in TSA’s layered security approach
Campos’ sacrifice underscores the dedication and responsibility FFDOs take to safeguard our skies.”
FFDOs serve as a last line of defense in TSA’s layered security approach and play a significant role in TSA’s mission
“They serve a key role in our national and homeland security mission,” said LE/FAMS Executive Assistant Administrator Brian Belcher

Campos leaves an outstanding legacy of leadership and duty to others,” Belcher emphasized
LE/FAMS Aviation Programs Deputy Branch Manager Daniel Kuhn added
“FFDO Campos consistently demonstrated exceptional proficiency in his duties as an FFDO

the tournament director of the Arnold Palmer Invitational

“I told her we got a spot in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.”
won’t mind missing his national open for his signature debut
He knows how valuable playing these lucrative
It was only a season ago that he got into just one event before the Mexico Open as the last Korn Ferry Tour graduate on the priority list
“I don’t feel part of the PGA Tour,” Campos said last February
He’d then miss 13 of 14 cuts later in the year before breaking through for a surprising victory at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship
But with the PGA Tour shrinking the number of fully exempt members to 100 at the end of this season
playing Bay Hill is even more crucial for a guy like Campos
especially after he started this year with a solo 57th at the 59-man Sentry followed by four straight missed cuts
“That’s a blessing,” Campos said of his API invite
“It’s an opportunity obviously we’ll always remember
I really want to take advantage of that opportunity
hopefully it’s the start of me gaining the confidence I need to start playing some good golf and hopefully being in that tournament for the future.”
Campos tied for 38th last season at the Mexico Open
one in practice and the other during Friday’s second round
Campos noted that VidantaWorld was playing long and inviting for the big hitters
and that he wished he had “an extra 20 yards in the bag.”
His struggles reached a boiling point a few weeks ago at the Farmers Insurance Open
Campos eventually connected with instructor Boyd Summerhays
the brother of former PGA Tour pro Daniel Summerhays and father of Arizona State standout Preston Summerhays
Campos started to understand the root of his problems
especially the way I grip the club and how I want the club to be moving out of my backswing,” Campos explained
that’s why I normally tape my wrist because it bothers it just because it’s a new move that I’m making
There’s just one issue: Campos’ new fade has sapped about 10-12 yards of distance from every club
though Campos is hopeful the finished product will give him staying power on the PGA Tour – and more signature-event starts
“Once I get used to that I know for a fact that I’ll see a lot more consistent results
and that’s the ultimate goal for me for this year
for the second half of this year and actually be ready for the following year.”
