CALA RATJADA – located in the northeast end of Mallorca
some 80 kilometers from Palma – is a small seaside town with its own port
the most important one of Capdepera and also the one closest to Menorca
It is a small urban center located in a rectangular expansion area occupied mainly by housing blocks
The new space includes a cultural center and a large outdoor space with centennial trees; with a changing appearance
the building aims to engage in dialogue and blend with its natural environment of lights and shadows
the new Cap Vermell Center is located in the center of the expansion areas
aside from the building containing the cultural center
a large open space in a plot filled with centennial pine trees
Aiming to set up a dialogue with the place where it rises
the project tries to meld into its environment without mimetizing entirely
the shadows of the building interact with those of the trees in a space dominated by the intense Mediterranean light
the building is a solid and compact volume of dyed concrete
with the same texture and color of the stones in the landscape surrounding it
Its petreous and changing appearance serves as backdrop for the shadows cast by the vegetation
The floor plan consists of three main bays that organize the whole program: the bay parallel to the western facade
accommodates the main pieces – assembly hall
library and exhibition center; the one closer to the street contains the smaller pieces – classrooms and offices; and
vertical communications and three longitudinal courtyards which enhance daylighting and natural ventilation
The entrance to the building is through a double access that takes place through two main facades; both converge in a hall that traverses the whole program
The project tries to integrate passive and traditional systems in the building process
and therefore resorts to dry construction and to an economic and versatile prefabrication system
which also provides the constructive and energy solution: a concrete piece whose nature and detailing is already part of traditional construction in Baleares
Three bays organize the program; the larger one houses the main uses; the one closer to the street
classrooms and offices; and the central one
vertical cores and three patios to provide light and ventilation
The courtyards to ensure cross ventilation in the different rooms
the sun protection with light-filtering elements
the bay that allows making the most of sunlight
and the reuse of rainwater deposited in a large well to water plants
in the project to improve the building’s energy efficiency and its insertion in its environment

A storm system struck at a beautiful white sand cove called Cala Mesquida near Capdepera
News | World
Two foreign holidaymakers have died in a lightning strike at the same beach in Majorca
One of the men died instantly at a beautiful white sand cove called Cala Mesquida near Capdepera in the north-east of the island
started convulsing and died around 40 minutes afterwards despite efforts by emergency responders to revive him at the scene
The drama occurred during a storm in the area and led to the popular beach
famed for its white sand and crystalline waters
being evacuated briefly to avoid a further tragedy
Local reports said one of the men was killed after it began raining hard and he put his hand on the metal handle of his parasol to fold it away and leave the beach with his wife when lightning lit up the sky
Lifeguard Federico Parisin told one island newspaper he had rushed over to one of them when he saw smoke coming from his body from a distance
adding: “When we reached him his body was completely carbonised
“We began to try to revive the other man while a fierce electrical storm was raging above us and fearing for our lives as well.”
are not thought to have been part of the same group although they were close by each other
Their bodies were shielded using sun loungers and parasols while police and other emergency responders waited for court officials to arrive and approve their removal
There were no reports of any other casualties and it was not immediately clear if any British tourists were on the beach at the time
Local police and Civil Guard helped clear the beach briefly after Thursday’s 3.30pm tragedy
The drama happened just nine days after a 20-month-old girl was killed by a huge hail stone around four inches in diameter and more than 70 others injured by falling ice in and around the Catalan town of La Bisbal de l’Emporda

Experts said the risk of tropical-like cyclones called medicanes had increased with this year’s record heat waves affecting the UK’s favourite holiday destination and the rise in sea temperatures blamed on global warming
Oceanographer and weather expert Yurima Celdran
a marine sciences graduate who went on to do a masters degree in meteorology
said: “Higher Mediterranean temperatures provide a greater source of energy for medicanes and amplify their destructivity
“Sea temperatures this autumn are expected to be higher than normal and if the necessary atmosphere conditions are in place
it would not be unreasonable to think the Mediterranean could harbour a medicane this year.”

The €10m development is to be built on seven hectares (17 acres) that include the former municipal rubbish dump at Capdepera, in the north of the island, if the plans presented to the town hall come to fruition.
The park will offer visitors everything from the last supper to "live resurrections" in a rolling programme of shows repeated through the day.
Although similar parks exist in Latin America and the US, Europe has yet to build a Christian theme park, perhaps because the number of those with faith is dwindling. But Sigma, the prospective builder of Mallorca's venture and owner of a similar park in Buenos Aires, Argentina, want to bring its concept to Europe with a place that promises to recreate scenarios from the old and new testaments.
Capdepera's town hall confirmed that it had received an approach from Sigma but had yet to decide on approval.
The plan for the Mallorca park is to emulate the success of Christian attractions in the US, which include the Holy Land Experience in Orlando, and the Creation Museum near Cincinatti.
Exact details are scant, but the Buenos Aires park offers its re-enactments of the creation of mankind, the birth of Christ, the resurrection and the last supper eight times a day.
With a cast of extras in the costumes of Romans and early Palestinians, the park advertises itself as "a place where everyone can learn about the origins of spirituality". Visitors include tourists and groups of young roman Catholics studying for their first communion.
The park planned for Mallorca reportedly intends to build replicas of, among other things, the Wall of Lamentations and a Roman court house.

A new bombshell has entered the villa. Love Island just introduced a huge plot twist to the popular reality dating show that completely changes the game
On Love Island Australia Season 6, Episode 18 — which originally aired in Oz on Nov. 26, and became available for streaming in the U.S. on Monday, Dec. 2 — contestants were sent to what was dubbed the world’s first-ever “Hotel Amor,” a play on the popular (and v dramatic) Casa Amor
couples are separated and put to the test against a new crop of singles; in Hotel
fans vote to send six different pairs — who don’t necessarily have to be in a couple (!) — to six separate hotels to spend a private night together
Would they have ended the season together?
is that fans at home can visit where the couples spent their private moments together
Here are the luxe rentals and resorts used by Love Island Australia
and how much it’d cost you to spend a night
Hotel Melbeach & SpaThe adults-only hotel that Krissy and Taylor were sent to was the Hotel Melbeach & Spa on the island of Mallorca
The beachy escape offers two restaurants on property that serve Mediterranean cuisine
The Hotel Melbeach also has a bike rental service for you to explore more of Canyamel
enjoy the outdoor pool with a cocktail in hand
A deluxe suite that comfortably sleeps two people is around $516 to $567 a night in the spring
AirbnbLove Island didn’t use just hotels — production also rented a six-bedroom home in Ses Salines, Spain
The massive home away from the villa sleeps up to 12 guests
and includes a gorgeous garden and outdoor pool with a jacuzzi
While space is a huge win with this Airbnb, you don’t have the luxury of a restaurant within walking distance. However, you can make all the avocado toast and Love Island coffee you want in the kitchen
The Finca Rural Art 9 Airbnb has a three-night minimum in the winter with rates starting at $628 a night
so this one is definitely a splurge for couples looking to get away
VrboProduction chose another rental for Em and Mercedes’ Hotel Amor vacay. This three-bedroom villa in Capdepera
and a deck for al fresco dining with a view of the Mediterranean Sea
Despite this Vrbo home being slightly smaller than the Airbnb and not having a minimum for the number of days you need to stay
but that does already include fees and tax
Universal Grand León & SpaKaylah and Steph traveled to the Universal Grand León & Spa for their Hotel Amor experience
Located near the Es Trenc Beach on Mallorca’s southern coast
this resort has several restaurants and bars for guests to enjoy
but you could always order room service as well
There’s also the AQUA Spa & Wellness center at the Universal Grand León
A room for two with a side sea view starts at $153 a night
so this is one of the more budget-friendly choices for Love Island fans
Hotel & Restaurant Jardi D'ArtàAbout an hour from the Universal Grand León & Spa is the Hotel & Restaurant Jardi D'Artà
This is where Mimi and Dylan spent their Hotel Amor time on Love Island Australia
The boutique hotel on Mallorca is located in town
so it’s perfect for going on a romantic stroll with your partner
If you do want to spend the day by the sea
There’s a restaurant attached to the hotel with Mediterranean cuisine from Chef Florian Schwarz that’s ideal for foodies
Hotel & Restaurant Jardi D'Artà has only 11 suites
Hotel Creu de Tau Art & SpaLive for a hot tub moment? The adults-only Hotel Creu de Tau Art & Spa may be more your style
The relaxing hotel that Sophie and Zane stayed in has a jacuzzi
and a restaurant from Chef Pablo Tamarit with Mediterranean cuisine
A classic room at the Hotel Creu de Tau Art & Spa is about $235 a night
or $403 for an all-inclusive stay with two meals per day
