The environmental health department of Cártama town
together with the Think in Green foundation
have launched another campaign focused on the collection of used textiles and footwear among schoolchildren in the municipality
which began on Thursday 1 and continues until Thursday 22 May
consists of a contest in which the school that collects the most items will be rewarded with a voucher for educational supplies valued at 250.00 euros
The council said in a statement that the main objective of this campaign is to prevent this type of waste from ending up in conventional containers
and to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of using the appropriate container
“since used clothing and footwear are resources that can be recycled and transformed into very useful textile materials”
Environment councillor Toñi Sánchez visited the participating schools on Thursday to launch the contest and to deliver the material needed for the campaign
She also encouraged the entire community to participate in this initiative aimed at “caring for and protecting our environment”

"Colombia expects to export around 150,000 tons of fresh Hass avocados this year
Although the sector recorded a 5% drop from January to May
we expect to close 2024 with exports growing by around 16%," says Ricardo Uribe
This optimism is based on the volumes expected from the main harvest
which will start in September and continue until March
Colombia is currently finishing its secondary season and volumes are declining week after week
Exports are expected to recover strongly around week 40
"This season brought similar challenges to previous summers in terms of market supply
where the situation was aggravated by the impact of El Niño
which resulted in a greater supply of small sizes ranging between 24 and 32
causing the supply of Hass avocados in Europe to be dominated by these sizes and the returns of producers to be more limited," says Uribe
This posed an additional challenge this year for the secondary season
"The key to obtaining good returns in the European market will be for the fruit to be certified
especially with social certifications such as Rain Forest Alliance (RFA)
which promotes not only environmental sustainability
but also economic and social sustainability
which is very much in line with Cartama's philosophy
Uribe says that around 30% of Cartama's acreage is devoted to the protection of the natural forest
"This isn't only beneficial for the environment
but also strengthens our position in markets that appreciate environmental responsibility," he says
Colombia is investing heavily in product quality
improving its post-harvest practices and its pre-cooling
Cartama is building a new packing plant to increase its capacity from 300 to 800 tons per day
which is expected to become operational by October 2025
"We have exported 682 containers up to June 2024
which represents 24% of Colombia's total avocado exports
The company aims to export 1,525 containers in 2024 and 1,900 in 2025
with the goal of reaching 4,000 containers by 2028," says Uribe
Cartama has gained a significant presence in both Europe and the United States
"Europe accounts for 60-70% of our exports
while the US accounts for 30-40%," says Uribe
Colombia's geographical location offers unique advantages
with very competitive transit times to the fruit's main importing countries
"The availability of water is a great competitive advantage
as production projects do not require artificial irrigation systems to be able to produce
we have developed the capacity to produce in a variety of conditions and manage water efficiently," says Uribe
This ensures the continuity of the production
The Cartama CEO also mentions the importance of having import offices in Europe
"This allows us to contact end customers directly and gives us the flexibility to ripen
repack and distribute smaller quantities more efficiently," he says
It becomes easier to make quick adjustments based on the market's needs and ensures the fruit's arrival in optimal condition
the company is getting ready to increase its production volumes while remaining committed to responsible agricultural practices

Cártama town hall has announced that the water supply has been cut due to a breakdown caused by the unprecedented blackout in the Iberian peninsular on Monday
the company managing the municipal water service
"has been forced to carry out a scheduled suspension of the water supply" from 10.30pm on Tuesday 29 April in order to repair the main pipeline throughout Wednesday
"Once the power was restored after the blackout
the pumps that draw water from the boreholes started up
and the sudden influx of water caused a very strong pressure surge inside the pipe
which burst," the local authority explained in a statement
This large pipeline connects the Casapalma reservoir with the other reservoirs and the distribution pipeline for Cártama and Cártama Estación
It supplies water to the reservoirs in Cártama
but "since there was no electricity supply until last night [Monday]
there hasn't been enough time to recover the water level in these reservoirs”
The council also pointed out that Aqualia cannot specify how long the water supply suspension will last
"as it cannot yet assess the complexity of the repair"
The company advises residents to ensure that no taps are left on during the interruption to the supply to avoid possible unnecessary water losses
and to refrain from using appliances such as washing machines or dishwashers
it is recommended to let the water run for a few minutes to avoid the possible presence of impurities
Aqualia said that it is working to provide technical solutions to improve municipal water networks and reminds users that any questions can be answered by calling the free 24-hour number - 900 81 44 83

Another sleepless night for the residents of Cártama town and Malaga's Campanillas neighbourhood
In light of the relentless storms and the overflow of the Guadalhorce and the Campanillas rivers
on Monday 17 March the Local Police and the Guardia Civil evacuated dozens of people
but some residents chose to stay on higher floors of their houses
while the lower levels and garages got flooded with muddy water
The locals demanded proper maintenance of the nearby dams and regular river clean-up efforts in order for future floods to be prevented
has reminded residents of the one that they experienced in 2020
Memories of damaged movable and immovable assets have kept people awake during the past few nights
The Cártama districts areas of Doña Ana and Molino Carvajal were the worst hit
water and mud rushed into garages and houses in the areas of the main road
"It rained so much that the whole plot was flooded
We started to take the water out as best as we could
but it suddenly started to come in so fast that I already have more than half a metre in my house," she said
"It has been a very distressing time," she said
relieved that her daughter and her grandson were not there when the flooding started
They also managed to relocate their four dogs and shelter their horse
Aurora believes that the only solution and preventative measure would be to properly clean the riverbed and warn residents if the floodgates of the reservoirs are going to be opened
saying that such floods wouldn't occur if the river was maintained in a way that sedimentation and dirt wouldn't stop easy flow
He explained that locals stopped putting fruitless efforts in trying to take water out of their houses around 4am
because they "were fighting against something that was stronger"
given the "thousands of litres of water" running through the streets
Ricardo described the feeling of helplessness while watching the knee-deep water inside his house
The flood suffered in 2020 was more serious
but water has entered houses and business establishments once again this year
the most affected areas have been Calle Cristobalina Fernández and the area around the Brillante
where the river overflows and where water accumulates
this has only spared them half of the disaster
Miguel Francisco Bueno lives on Calle Cristobalina Fernández
He spent Tuesday morning trying to get water out of his garage
where up to 30 centimetres of mud had accumulated
the water came up to the roof and smashed two cars and a motorbike
at least I was able to get the vehicles out," he explained
Miguel repeated the demands of his neighbours: "The dam is the problem
because it hasn't rained enough for such floods to happen."
Marina Díaz's hairdressing salon on Calle José Calderón also suffered the consequences
even though the premises are on a fairly high pavement
"(...) the mud has stained everything," she said
Remembering the state of Campanillas in 2020
she said that she "spent the whole night watching the surveillance camera in the street to see if the water had arrived"
Tired of the lack of attention and action that institutions have demonstrated in the past
they have taken matter into their own hands
they fear that this situation will be repeated can only be alleviated once authorities have taken proper care of the dams and riverbeds
Cártama mayor Jorge Gallardo said that the river caught them off-guard
"It is the first time that it has been overflowing for so long
The level has not dropped and it has been like this for three or four hours," he said on Tuesday morning
Gallardo said that the town hall had also received calls reporting collapsed walls of houses
On Tuesday afternoon, Cártama began to see the light at the end of another dramatic episode, taking a deep breath during the respite between storm Laurence and storm Martinho. The latter is expected to arrive on Thursday, bringing more rain
The municipal library in Estación de Cártama is currently hosting Evocaciones (evocations)
a painting and poetry exhibition that can be viewed free of charge until Friday 28 March
The paintings are the work of Mercedes González
an art teacher and member of the Malaga plastic artists association
who is showcasing a selection of her most emblematic works
which includes landscapes and still life paintings
is accompanied by poems and verses created by her daughter Carolina Muñoz González and her granddaughter Ayelén Guzmán Muñoz
The initiative invites visitors to participate by writing the personal evocation that each work evokes
and each one will be entered into a competition
The exhibition can be visited Monday to Friday from 10am until 1pm
The High Court of Justice of Andalucía (TSJA) has upheld the 41-year prison sentence of José Arcadio D.
also known as 'El Melillero' (the guy from Melilla)
who was accused of attempted murder after throwing acid at his ex-girlfriend and her friend who were sat in a vehicle in Cártama back in January 2021
The court has acquitted one other defendant - the young man who bought the can of acid and was tried as an accomplice
who had accompanied José Arcadio on the day of the attack
The acquitted defendant was facing a sentence of ten years in prison
but the charges were dropped after his lawyer
stated that "he was aware that the purchase could be used by José Arcadio for illicit purposes
but not of the specific ulterior purpose of the acid"
The TSJA rejected the appeal presented by the defence of 'El Melillero' and also that of the man who accompanied him on the day of the attack
he rode with José Arcadio as a passenger and carried the can of acid
The TSJA rejected both appeals and upheld Malaga's court's accounts
which stated that the main defendant knew from where his ex-girlfriend Sandra and her friend would pass with a car
José Arcadio placed his vehicle in parallel "and one of the occupants pressed the can containing the sulphuric acid"
The window of Sandra's car was slightly lowered
which allowed for the acid to enter and fall onto her and her friend
Both of them immediately got out of the vehicle to avoid asphyxiation
"José Arcadio laughed as he looked at them before fleeing," said the court in its ruling
which also found that 'El melillero' "had developed an uncontrolled jealousy
which had made him unjustifiably suspicious of alleged infidelities" during the relationship
he was convicted of two counts of attempted murder with the aggravating circumstances of gender-based violence and of kinship in relation to his ex-partner; as well as one count of habitual mistreatment

"Their political backing has made it easier for European Cricket to remain in Andalucía
despite interest from several other countries," he said

an initiative that focuses on the prevention of addictions
and co-financed by the regional ministry of health
'Cártama against drugs' is an initiative that has been carried out for several years in the municipality and is aimed at pupils
One of the activities carried out in the workshops for secondary school pupils involves using special simulation glasses
These glasses use specialised lenses and filters that distort vision in ways that replicate the symptoms of the effects of alcohol consumption and the impact of not sleeping for a whole night
Students are tasked with completing everyday activities and routine tasks
such as walking in a straight line or removing pencils from a pencil case
This allows the pupils to experience firsthand how substance use or lack of sleep affects balance
The goal is to help pupils respond assertively to adversity
build successful relationships and communicate effectively

The growth trajectory of Colombian avocado exports shows no signs of slowing down in 2024
Colombia’s avocado exports are set to grow by between 16 and 20 per cent this year
giving a potential shipment volume of 141,000 tonnes
with exports to the European market achieving good returns in January and February
“The challenge has been in the size profile of the crop – due to El Niño
all the main producing countries in the region have seen a concentration of small calibres
between counts 24 and 32,” he told Fruitnet
“We’re currently seeing interesting prices for larger fruit (counts 12-16)
while there’s an oversupply of smaller-sized fruit.”
With Peruvian avocado output projected to be down 16 per cent this year
the expectation is for a more balanced European market this coming summer
“Peru is expected to finish its campaign earlier than in the previous years due to the impact of El Niño and the high temperatures it has brought in recent months
We hope that July will see the last big volumes being sent from Peru,” Uribe noted
Trade data from the National Association of Foreign Trade (Analedex) show an average annual growth rate of more than 12 per cent
Exports have surged from 34,911 tonnes in 2020 to 114,535 tonnes last year

this year’s Weston Shield promises high-octane action until its conclusion on Sunday
giving fans an early taste before the European Cricket League 2025 (ECL2025) gets going
ECL2025 will bring together 35 champion clubs from across Europe in a fierce battle for continental glory
Often dubbed the ‘Champions League of European Cricket’
the tournament has grown rapidly since its 2019 debut
and reigning champions Hornchurch (England)
Hornchurch claimed their first-ever title with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Jersey’s Old Victorians
It was a remarkable turnaround for the London club
who had fallen short in the 2023 final against Dreux
Now they return to defend their title in what promises to be the biggest edition of the tournament yet
This year’s competition follows an intense schedule
The opening three weeks will feature group-stage matches
culminating in a thrilling Championship Week where the group winners will battle for the ultimate prize
a premier cricketing venue just 30 minutes from Malaga city
The car park of a petrol station in Cártama appears normal
A man gets out of a hire car and returns with an ice cream for the little girl who remains in the back seat
It's the comings and goings of a working day at three in the afternoon
The sun caresses the cheek and generates a pleasant memory of spring
comes a blurry figure walking too close to the crash barrier
This separates a narrow path from the A-357 motorway
there’s the distressing feeling of seeing someone so near to the cars and lorries whizzing past
a single mother with a vacant look and dishevelled hair
It is a story that gets in the pit of your stomach and takes your breath away
The story of a life that has become impossible from one day to the next
It is a mute cry for help from someone who repeats over and over again the following phrase: "I don't want to appear weak." The encounter with Cloti
is the result of the serendipity of the moment
different realities that suddenly touch and connect
On a tour to see the effects that the 'Dana' storm has left on the Guadalhorce
seeing someone covered in mud doesn’t attract much attention
it does when a brown crust covers their entire body
as if they've emerged from an extravagant mud therapy session
Cloti points to a house situated just below the motorway
The scale of the disaster can be sensed from afar
but the structure looks as if it has been split in two
the result of the tidal wave of water that burst through it last Tuesday
With so much lightning it seemed like daytime
officials came and gave me half an hour to leave," she says
Just enough time to get her six dogs to safety
"I’ve loved animals since I was young and have always worked with animal shelters
I would always help with temporary foster care," she explains
She points once more at the house that is no longer there
The last five years of Cloti’s life have been spent here
and an outdoor area decorated as a "chill-out" space
It was also her resurgence after a divorce
It’s the struggle of a single mother to provide a home for her daughter
even though she didn’t have many resources
This is another phrase she repeats several times
Cloti says it's her "only vice" and threatens to take out a cigarette
"My life changed when I divorced my husband
We lived in Añoreta and I worked part-time
I had to look for a house and in Malaga it was impossible
I invested everything I had so that I could have a place for my daughter and opt for shared custody," she says
Accessing the land where Cloti's house is located is dangerous
It requires walking along the edge of the motorway
The natural entrance is cut off by large stones dragged by the flood
They are the same ones that prevent heavy machinery from entering
the contrast with everything that reminds you of life is abysmal
it would look like the set of a disaster movie
and mud—endless amounts of mud—make up a grotesque scene
she had already tasted abandonment: "My mother left my sister and me
She also recently lost her job after 16 years in a large department store
She supplements her 700 euros of unemployment benefit by cleaning here and there
"wherever there is work." But this is another dimension
Cloti sits down on the sofa that used to be in the living room
The mud is a slimy mass that is almost up to her ankles
but without a home of her own she fears losing custody of her daughter
I've asked for help but they tell me they can't put machines in here
I have to do it for my daughter," she says
like a pressure cooker calling for release
Personal dramas are diluted in the magnitude of a catastrophe

Cartama Council Calls For Emergency Declaration
Central government are being petitioned to declare a Civil Protection Emergency in the Cartama area following severe flooding
Cartama in Malaga Province has been hit hard by flooding following the torrential rain brought by Storm Dana this week
The town council has now asked central government to declare the area a Civil Protection Emergency
A Civil Protection Emergency refers to situations that pose a significant threat to public safety and require coordinated action from various authorities
The Spanish government has a civil protection system designed to prevent
Local and regional authorities work together with national agencies to manage the situation
provide assistance to affected individuals
Rural roads have been affected by landslides in Cartama
When the flooding hit on Tuesday 29th October the Guadalhorce river overflowed in parts of the municipality, flooding some residential areas including Estación de Cártama and leaving agricultural land under water
More than 100 litres of rain per square metre fell furing the storm
The river reached a height of 6 metres as it passed through Estación de Cártama making the A-7057 road impassable
Water supplies to residential areas in Cartama have been affected by the flooding
and residents have also reported flooded basements
Many of the rural roads have been destroyed and there are reports of sink holes appearing
The council are also requesting financial aid from central government to assist residents with the costs of repairs and replacing property
and also for the agricultural and livestock sectors

as this restaurant prepares a very personal Japanese-Mediterranean cuisine
For almost ten years he trained in the kitchens of Asian cuisine establishments located mostly on the Costa del Sol
The pandemic forced him to return to his place of origin and instead of getting depressed he decided to open the only 'Japanese' restaurant in the town of Estación de Cártama
He soon not only won over the public in the area
but also in a large part of Malaga province
to have very clear ideas of where the tastes of his clientele are and not to scare them with prices
Along with the most classic dishes of this type of cuisine on the menu
we find other creations that are the result of the creativity that Jesús has imposed in Nakara
One of the things I liked most about my last visit to this restaurant is the deep respect that Jesús has for oriental cuisine
especially when it comes to fusing products and techniques
the result of which can be appreciated in the first mouthful
where the seafood does not lose an iota of its flavour despite the spicy touch and its crunchy texture
But you should also go to Nakara to enjoy the sushi
of the latter I'll go for the one with truffled tuna belly and ponzu
and from the Chinese cuisine with their dim sum stuffed with duck and foie gras with shitake sauce and crispy onion
The excellent service of José Manuel Heredia and what Jesús cooks
it is no wonder that it has become one of the most recommended Asian restaurants in the province
it is an example of how to make good Japanese cuisine without making harakiri on our wallet
This is undoubtedly one of the most striking dishes on the menu
Wagyu is in fashion and Nakara prepares it in a taco where the crispness becomes one of its attractions
The point and flavour of the meat is perfect
Varied sushi To go to Nakara and not try the sushi would be unforgivable
It is precisely in the variety of sushi (salmon
scallop and tuna) where you can appreciate the professionalism and good work of Jesús to give the rice the right touch
Another of the dishes that cannot be missing from the menu of any of the establishments where the Nakara group is present
Medium-sized prawns with crispy tempura and a mild yet spicy sauce
Japanese Pepito This dish is defined by its original and sensible execution
A well-fried bao bread stuffed with tuna belly previously flambéed
The slice of fried green pepper adds flavour and potency

Cártama town hall is continuing its project for the comprehensive remodelling of different parts of the municipality to make them more attractive for locals and visitors
The latest work has taken place in Calle San Rafael Alto
where remodelling and renovation work has also been carried out on a small square that had become “deteriorated”
carried out at the request of the local residents
included the replacement of all infrastructure
new paving tiles and the remodelling of the area to create a larger public area with urban furniture and extra parking spaces
“The council continues to undertake work to tidy and improve our municipality in order to offer our residents new spaces for their coexistence and enjoyment.”
The project is part of the plan carried out by the town hall to enhance the value of the centre of the town by renovating the most emblematic streets and preserving its historical heritage
This Wednesday (13 November) there will be no classes in any of the educational centres in Malaga province
amber or yellow weather warning including Malaga city
There will also be no classes at Malaga University or other private schools
the "preventive evacuation" of some dwellings located on the banks of the Guadalhorce river as it passes through the municipalities of Álora
The Junta de Andalucía's Minister of the Presidency
activated Level 1 of the region's emergency plan at 8.22pm today due to the flood risk from the heavy downpours
This had already been in pre-emergency phase
The emergency level has been raised in response to technical reports
weather forecasts and the outlook for the coming hours in Malaga province of
The decision was also taken in collaboration with the mayors of the affected areas
according to the 112 Andalucía emergency coordination centre
This level of emergency refers to a situation that could involve damage
or when the management plan deems it appropriate
and for which the necessary measures are put into practice for the relief and protection of people or property
As a result of today's meeting with the technical heads of emergencies and civil protection
it was decided to preventively evacuate homes and businesses on the banks of the Guadalhorce river
it has been decided to suspend classes in all educational centres in the Malaga province affected by the weather as well as in Almuñécar
Motril and Albuñol in the province of Granada
The measure also affects day centres and centres for people with disabilities
Some residents of the towns in Malaga province's Guadalhorce valley have been left with just the clothes on their back after the torrential downpours from the 'Dana' weather system swept through the area on Tuesday and caused major flooding and damage to homes
Paco Fernández and his wife Isabel lost everything
flood waters caused by the overflowing Guadalhorce river gushed into their house in Álora and swept away their belongings
"We have lost our life savings," they said
This couple live in the La Isla neighbourhood
which was one of the worst affected areas by the flooding in Malaga province
They needed to be rescued by a Guardia Civil helicopter after the water swept through their entire house
"In less than five minutes a huge wave came and swept everything away," they said
they said that they made a decision to leave the house after seeing how heavily the rain was falling
but they did not have time to get to the car
which was parked less than ten metres away
Both took shelter on the roof of their two-storey house and waited to be rescued while emergency workers rescued other families in the surrounding area
"The performance of Guardia Civil has been exemplary; they took very little time to rescue us
They were shocked and could not quite believe what had occurred
lamenting that this was the second time this had happened to them after suffering through the floods of 2012
who they claim had not cleaned the riverbed since then
causing an accumulation of reeds and weeds
A similar situation happened to Silvia Ávila and Eleuterio Torres
Both left home before 8am and when they returned
"We have been left with nothing but the clothes we have on our backs," she said
they decided to spend the night at a relative's house
but they don't know what they will do next
"The water has almost reached the roof; we have lost an entire furnished house."
The most critical situation was in the area around Álora station
Media Distancia and AVE trains were all disrupted
"We were on our way to Seville when they told us that we have to get off here; they don't know when we will be able to continue," said Laura as she filmed a Guardia Civil helicopter trying to rescue several flooded cars
"It's unbelievable what has happened in just a moment."
Many of the cars she was filming belong to workers from the company Leba
"Many parked here this morning and have gone to Malaga to work
so they have no idea what has happened," said one worker
"There are at least ten or 20 cars under water," added another
The rain also wreaked havoc on numerous orange and lemon groves
many of which were even on the edge of the road after being washed away by the river
a villager who had (until Tuesday) a small field
"We have lost everything; now we have no choice but to pull up all the oranges and lemons and wait for next year," he said
Gonzalo Pérez is another of the people affected by the rain
the despair was not because he had lost his belongings but because he was unable to pick up his children
he dropped them off at the Guadalhorce school
and at noon he discovered the road he needed to use to pick them up was cut off by floodwaters
"Almost all the children are from that area (on the other side of the river)
but some of us parents live in the centre of Álora and we don't know how to get there."
Gonzalo tried to cross the flooded road on foot
but finally gave up when he realised it was quite deep
"The fear I have is that it will get dark and the kids will get scared; they should help us cross," he added
the situation began to return to normal in the area
Even the sun began to peek through the clouds
But that could not keep people's eyes off the sky
"I don't think we will be able to sleep today," Silvia said
the situation became more complicated in the area around Cártama
where the Guadalhorce river also overflowed its banks
The main incidents were recorded from 4pm onwards
businesses and infrastructures were damaged
located in an area close to the Guadalhorce riverbed
many residents in the lower areas took preventive measures
some residents in higher areas decided to stay in their homes
Town hall reported that no rescues were carried out
The increase in the Guadalhorce's flow also caused problems for key infrastructure
which crosses the river and had to be closed due to an accumulation of reeds and debris
and we don't know if this could have any effect on the bridge over the motorway
which has a smaller eye than the bridges over the Cártama station," said mayor Jorge Gallardo
To clear the bridge and facilitate the flow
a mechanical arm was moved while emergency crews monitored the stability of the bridge
The pedestrian area of the bridge was also closed as a safety precaution
the council activated its emergency plan and deployed all necessary resources to protect residents and minimise damage in the municipality
Heavy rains formed pools of water on several roads
making traffic difficult on numerous stretches
making it impossible for him to get around
The track connecting Cártama with Estación de Cártama was temporarily closed during the early hours of the morning due to flood waters
and the subway under the train tracks at Estación de Cártama remained flooded
Local Police diverted traffic and warned drivers of the risks in these areas
while traffic authorities recommended avoiding unnecessary journeys and opting for alternative routes
Cártama was facing a scenario of significant damage and a tough clean-up and repair challenge
the municipality is now preparing to assess the damage

Cártama town hall has announced that improvement work will be carried out on the A-7057 road in Estación de Cártama on Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 December
a project that will consist of the repair of the expansion joints of the bridge over the Guadalhorce river
which will be carried out from 9.30am and 7pm
will also include asphalting work on that section of road
The council has pointed out that traffic delays are expected in the area
since a just one lane will remain in service while the work is being carried out
Drivers are advised to use the A-7054 to access Estación de Cártama on these days
The Junta de Andalucía regional government's Minister of the Presidency Antonio Sanz made an unscheduled appearance at around eleven o'clock at night
to give information on the latest decisions taken by the authorities to warn people of the possible problems ahead of the new Dana weather system threatening Malaga
The red alert in which much of the province finds itself as of 10am this Wednesday morning justified the unusual action
At the headquarters of 112 Andalucía in Malaga
he took the floor to raise awareness of the urgency for people to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel
"The situation for the province of Malaga is one of extreme risk," said Sanz
some 3,000 people living in high-risk areas along the banks of the Guadalhorce river were evacuated from their homes
This task was apparently carried out with the collaboration of the corresponding town halls
They are mainly concentrated in the municipalities of Cártama and Álora
although some were also affected in Pizarra
"The important thing is that we are acting in advance and in a preventive manner
Many of those evacuated were reported to have found shelter with family and friends
the municipalities have provided places for people to spend the night in case they are needed
who insisted several times on "extreme caution and avoiding journeys that are not essential"
also confirmed the suspension of classes in schools and colleges throughout the province for today
The minister also pointed out that the measures adopted have been based at all times on the reports that "have reached us throughout the day"
Not only the Aemet forecast from Spain's state weather agency
the Junta also has received information from experts in the field
Sanz also asked the population to "follow the official information" and called on them to avoid falling for hoaxes and information distributed on social media networks from unidentified sources
Asked about recommendations for those who have to go to work today and whether it would be advisable to stay at home in these cases
Sanz again insisted on highlighting the risk situation
It is up to others to take these decisions
The alert we have issued affects the population as a whole," he concluded
Clean up efforts are continuing with the Guadalhorce valley in Malaga province starting to return to normality following the 'Dana' storm which brought flash flooding to the area two weeks ago
People in the worst-affected municipalities of Álora
Cártama and Almogía have worked tirelessly to restore infrastructure and basic services
while residents are still digesting the damage caused
as Spain's state weather agency (Aemet) has activated an amber alert for more heavy rain on Wednesday 13 November
Álora was one of the municipalities most affected by the recent floods
The overflowing of the river left more than 200 people cut off and washed away roads
making access and getting around extremely difficult
Due to the efforts of residents and authorities
most of the rural roads have been recovered
but seeing the community come together in difficult times has made it all worthwhile," said Álora mayor Francisco Martínez
Although most communications have been re-established
some remote houses are still difficult to access
one of the biggest advances has been the recovery of the drinking water supply
The homes still without are expected to regain it in the coming days
the situation has also improved considerably
were hit hard due to the accumulation of water and mud
forcing dozens of families to carry out arduous cleaning tasks
the arrival of hundreds of volunteers allowed the process to move forward quickly
and daily life is beginning to get back on track
Almogía was also hard-hit with impassable roads and significant damage
the town hall and residents worked together to re-establish the communications network and water supply
the amber alert throughout Malaga has put the three municipalities and the rest of the province on alert again
Although clean-up and recovery work has progressed at a good pace
Álora mayor Francisco Martínez said he hoped the rains would not be as heavy as expected: "If we manage not to exceed 20mm in an hour
we will be able to avoid that everything we have done being in vain"
"The news of the amber alert for heavy rainfall has already reached the municipality and has generated a mixture of concern and preparedness," residents said in Cártama
Almogía mayor Antonia García did not hide her concern: "Now we are a little shaky because we have a forecast telling us that on Wednesday there will be another quite strong Dana with quite a lot of litres of rain"
As Malaga province prepares to face the new storm
Recent experience has demonstrated the resilience and solidarity of communities
but uncertainty about the behaviour of nature remains
the only thing left to do is to be prepared and trust that the next storm will not undo reconstruction efforts in Álora

It is a great traditional Easter event and an opportunity to support and showcase local craft businesses
fun-filled day for all the family,” said Linda Chadburn
More than 100mm of rain deposited in the Malaga province municipalities of Álora and Cártama overnight has caused flood alerts to be issued for the Guadalhorce river to possibly burst its banks
has reached the red level for risk of flooding
as it is registering almost 76 cubic metres per second
The area most at risk of flooding is Estación de Cártama
where the Junta de Andalucía has activated a warning
with town hall and police evaluating possible risk situations and damage
The increase in the level of the Guadalhorce river is significant
The continuous rains have filled the riverbed to unusual levels
bringing with it sediment and plant debris
Cártama Local Police force has deployed preventive measures and are ensuring the river is constantly monitored to guarantee the safety of nearby residents
the river is not expected to overflow in the short term
Surveillance has been increased at critical points such as Estación de Cártama
in order to anticipate any changes that could affect the flow levels
Local authorities have urged the public to keep informed through official channels and to avoid approaching the banks
The rains have generated large pools of water which have caused issues with traffic on several stretches
The road connecting Cártama with Estación de Cártama had to be temporarily closed in one section during the early hours of this Tuesday morning
while the underpass under the train tracks in Estación de Cártama is still blocked due to flooding
Police have diverted traffic and warned drivers of the danger at these points
while emergency crews work to drain the worst affected areas
People are being encouraged to avoid unnecessary journeys
opting for alternative routes and exercising extreme caution in flooded areas
While the Guadalhorce river has not yet overflowed its banks
The A-7057 road through Cártama has already had to be closed due to flooding
The Guadalhorce river is full throughout most of its long course through the north of the province
at points such as the Aljaima weir in Cártama
the Guadalhorce is registering a flow og 61,000 litres per second
and almost 40,000 litres per second as it passes through Estación de Cártama
such as the Campanillas and the Río Grande
the Turón has also formed runoff and is carrying 2,500 litres per second as it passes through Ardales
