Triboni was active in several campus organizations
She serves as chapter president of Chi Epsilon

Triboni plans to remain at Auburn University to pursue a master’s and doctorate in structural engineering
She has accepted a summer internship with Nucor Buildings Group in Waterloo
and will defer a full-time position until after completing her graduate studies
“Carolina Triboni embodies the academic excellence
leadership and perseverance we value in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering,” said Mario Eden
“Her journey and success reflect the best of Auburn Engineering
and we are incredibly proud to have her represent the Class of 2025 as this year’s graduation marshal.”
Triboni hopes to return to academia as a civil engineering professor after working in the industry to prepare the next generation
“My professors have been one of the greatest support systems during my educational career
from helping me with homework to finding industry connections,” she said
“I want to be able to do the same for others

Have a problem keeping your eyes on the road while driving? Listening to music from Doechii and Central Cee can help with concentration behind the wheel
Some people might assume silence is the best way to focus in the car, but there's no fun in that. So, if there's going to be any music turned up in the ride, it better be Doechii or Central Cee to help improve driving skills. A new study released on March 31 by Auto Trader
the U.K.'s largest automotive marketplace for buying and selling new and used cars
determined which new artists that would likely be heard on the radio these days are the most beneficial to listen to while driving
driving is quite different from what happens over here in the U.S.—traffic drives on the left
which is opposite in America—driver focus is a universal necessity
which means listening to Doechii and Central Cee stateside is pretty important
to complete a series of hazard perception tests while listening to playlists from 20 different artists who are currently topping the charts
A driver's score was recorded and totaled to reveal the average result per artist after each hazard perception test was completed while listening to a specific artist's playlist
The scores below represent the average score out of 75 achieved by multiple participants listening to a particular artist during the test
Higher scores indicate greater levels of concentration
This means that when a driver was bumping songs from Doechii or Central Cee
they identified and reacted to hazards quicker
Their music kept listeners engaged without being overly-distracting. That's one thing to mention the next time you might be trying to get out of a speeding ticket
Take a look at the top 10 artists who help drivers focus below
Artist | Average Hazard Perception Score/75
Noah Kahan 56.12
Doechii 55.63
Sabrina Carpenter 54.24
Teddy Swims 53.45
Charli xcx 52.76
Central Cee 51.67
RAYE 51.48
Oasis 50.69
Benson Boone 50.210
Olivia Rodrigo 50.1

The CEE hotel investment market demonstrated significant resilience and growth in 2024
with investment volumes increasing by 16% year-on-year
This growth was primarily driven by increased activity in the Czech Republic
which emerged as the leading market in terms of hotel investment volumes
Most transactions in the region were single-asset deals
The positive momentum is expected to continue into 2025
with several major deals already completed and others in various stages of disposition process
prime yields in the CEE hotel investment market remained relatively constant
with slight compression observed for prime assets in top-tier locations
and increased capital inflows suggest the potential for further compression of yields as we transition into 2025
There were 12 hotels and serviced apartments with 1,381 rooms opening in the CEE-6 capitals during 2024
including branded properties such as W Evropa Hotel and Cloud One in Prague and Kimpton
There was a strong focus on the Upper Upscale and Upscale segments
primarily driven by openings in Warsaw (+2.6%)
the supply in the region's capitals is projected to grow by 2.5%
Warsaw is expected to see the highest increase at approximately 5.8%
The region experienced an 8.9% increase in RevPAR compared to 2023
The RevPAR index in all CEE capitals has surpassed 2019 levels
Sofia (123.2%) and Prague (122.5%) leading the way
Warsaw is the only city to have surpassed 2019 occupancy levels
Markets such as Romania and Bulgaria are expected to grow in the coming years
primarily supported by their inclusion in the Schengen area

Women’s Health Initiative study finds CEE and CEE+MPA improve cholesterol and insulin levels but increase triglycerides and clotting factors
Study: Long-Term Changes to Cardiovascular Biomarkers After Hormone Therapy in the Women's Health Initiative Hormone Therapy Clinical Trials. Image Credit: Worawee Meepian / Shutterstock.com
A recent study published in Obstetrics and Gynecology assesses hormone therapy (HT)-induced changes in cardiovascular biomarkers during the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) clinical trials
Several studies have investigated the potential effects of HT on cardiovascular disease (CVD) biomarkers that could influence the future risk of heart attack
one trial on conjugated equine estrogens CEE and CEE combined with different progestin regimens reported reduced low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and increased triglycerides levels after three years
In the WHI trial on CEE plus medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA)
and insulin levels from baseline to one year one
whereas high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and triglyceride levels increased
The CEE alone trial reported similar findings for LDL-C
Several cross-sectional comparisons at six (CEE) and three years (CEE+MPA) have been conducted among participants without diabetes mellitus
there remains a lack of longitudinal analyses studying the effects of HT on CVD while also stratifying these results by age
The current study evaluated the effects of CEE+MPA and CEE alone on CVD biomarkers over a period of six years
A total of 27,347 menopausal women between 50 and 79 years of age were randomized by the two double-blinded
Approximately 10% of study participants were randomly selected and grouped into the CEE alone and CEE+MPA trials
The CEE alone group consisted of 1,188 participants who received 0.625 mg/d CEE or placebo
the CEE+MPA group included 1,508 participants who were administered 0.625 mg/d CEE and continuous 2.5 mg/d MPA or placebo
Blood samples were collected at baseline and after one
and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were measured
A constant treatment effect across visits was used to quantity overall effects
One year after randomization in the CEE alone group
an 11% reduction in LDL-C levels was observed among women treated with CEE as compared to placebo
This effect was mostly persistent in years three and six
the overall reduction in LDL-C was similar; however
the magnitude of the difference diminished during the follow-up period
Sensitivity analyses yielded similar results
Among participants randomized to CEE or CEE+MPA
HDL-C and triglyceride levels increased by 13% and 7%
This led to a slight reduction in cholesterol levels in the CEE alone trial
whereas the reduction in the CEE+MPA trial was more prominent
Factor VII antigen concentrations rose by 14% and 8% in the CEE and CEE+MPA trials
This escalation in factor VII antigen levels was most significant at one year until declining thereafter
CEE+MPA treatment did not increase factor VII coagulant activity
whereas CEE was associated with a 7% increase
Although the results for most CVD biomarkers were consistent across 10-year age groups
lipoprotein(a) reductions were not observed in the CEE-alone trial as age increased
The reduction in lipoprotein(a) levels was more evident among women self-identifying as Alaska Native
both trials were associated with broadly consistent patterns
lipoprotein(a) levels decreased by 15% and 20% in the CEE and CEE+MPA trials
Similar patterns were observed in subgroups classified by vasomotor symptoms at baseline
Across the baseline hyperlipidemia subgroups
significant effect modification was reported for lipoprotein(a) and insulin levels
Statin use during the CEE-alone and CEE+MPA trials increased to 23.3% and 20.7% at year six
compared to baseline levels of 7.2% and 6.6%
CEE alone and CEE+MPA are associated with favorable effects on all cardiovascular biomarkers
except triglycerides and factor VII antigen levels
Additional research is needed to examine the association between the effect of HT on lipoprotein(a) and genetic differences in specific patient populations
Future studies should also explore whether different progestogen formulations could mitigate the long-term effects of HT on LDL particle size and estrogen on HDL-C

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced a new "national doctrine" aimed at ensuring Poland develops the most powerful army and economy in the region
as the country prepares for "an era of great threats and challenges."
Speaking during a party convention in Warsaw on April 26
"The aim of the national doctrine is to have the strongest army in continental Europe and the strongest economy in the region." He emphasised that Poland must be prepared for a "battle for survival," referencing Russia's continued aggression towards Ukraine and instability in Europe
Poland gave the go-ahead to new legislation aiming to boost the country’s defence capabilities by enlarging the army from the current 100,000 people to 300,000 as well as earmarking more money for the modernisation of equipment
Poland plans to spend PLN158.9bn ($39.3bn) on defence in 2024
according to the government's approved budget
one of the highest defence spending rates among Nato members
Plans for 2025 are even more ambitious with PLN118bn ($29.4bn) for defence in 2025
When the extra-budgetary funds (like the Armed Forces Support Fund) are included
total defence spending is expected to approach 5% of GDP – a target that US President Donald Trump has called on all Nato members to reach
Tusk stressed that Poland would not succumb to complacency and outlined a vision for a more self-reliant and resilient state
We must build our strength ourselves," he said
"The most important goal today is for Poland to be safe and sovereign regardless of the changing circumstances."
The national doctrine will involve significant investment in defence and economic development
although Tusk did not reveal specific figures during his speech
His government has already pledged to maintain defence spending at more than 4% of GDP this year
Tusk also linked the doctrine to a broader political aim of restoring Poland’s influence within the European Union
"Poland must be strong not only militarily and economically
especially in the European Union," he said
Poland currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the European Council
The Ukraine conflict has lifted Poland’s profile and status in Europe
As a frontier state on the troubled eastern flank of the EU
the rest of the EU have looked to Poland’s lead on containing the threat of a possible Russian invasion
Tusk described the new era as one in which "only the strong will be able to ensure their security and development."
According to Notes from Poland on April 26
the doctrine is expected to be implemented through legislative initiatives and funding programmes in the coming months
"Our task is to ensure that Poland never again finds itself in a position of vulnerability," Tusk declared
The economy has also already been and out performer in Europe, has still be impacted by high inflation and underinvestment as a result of the instability caused by the Ukrainian conflict and the polycrisis in general
driven by strong post-pandemic recovery and government spending
particularly on defence and social programmes
eroding real incomes and consumer confidence that year
and weaker exports amid the broader European slowdown weighed heavily on the economy
Poland's economy is forecast to rebound modestly
with growth projected at around 2.8% by the European Commission and inflation has been falling steadily
Poland has consistently maintained stronger GDP growth over the past decade
and its public debt remains relatively low at around 50% of GDP
compared with the EU average of nearly 85%
the cost-of-living crisis and a tight labour market have created internal pressures that the new government is seeking to address through investment incentives and fiscal discipline
although the arrival of some two million Ukrainian war refugees has alleviated the labour shortage and given the economy a consumption-driven boost in the last two years
According to the European Commission’s Spring 2024 forecast
and is expected to expand by about 1.3% in 2024—meaning Poland’s growth will again outpace the bloc this year
According to the latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in April 2025
Poland's economy is expected to grow by 3.1% in 2025
Inflation is projected to moderate further to 4.5% by the end of the year
The IMF praised Poland’s strong fundamentals
particularly its low public debt and improved labour market
the report also highlighted the weaker private investment
and ongoing fiscal pressures from high defence spending and social programmes
The IMF expects Poland's growth rate to remain above the eurozone average in 2025
it recommended that Poland tighten its fiscal policy gradually to rebuild fiscal buffers and ensure that defence spending does not crowd out investment in other sectors
"While Poland remains well-positioned for medium-term growth
structural reforms to boost productivity and investment will be critical to sustaining economic convergence with western Europe," the IMF said in the WEO

Although the total number of deals in 2024 might suggest a slow recovery of the insurance M&A market in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region
the declining trend in terms of number of transactions remained consistent with the previous year
M&A activity in the core insurance sector hit a record low with only one transaction closed in the CEE region while investor interest in insurance brokers and agencies continued to rise
The newly established fund inspires students and faculty at the USC Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) to transform their research into high-impact solutions
A degree in engineering is the ideal training for an aspiring entrepreneur, and Ron and Rachel Antevy have established an important new fund created specifically for civil and environmental engineers at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering
“There’s a common misconception that entrepreneurial opportunities can only be found in AI or related areas of technology,” reflected Professor Burçin Becerik-Gerber, chair of the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)
many of the greatest problems facing humanity and our planet are being addressed within the disciplines of civil and environmental engineering
and it’s vital that our students and faculty feel empowered to innovate and transform their ideas into on-the-ground solutions.”
CEE initiatives such as the Innovation in Engineering and Design for Global Crises class (also generously funded by the Antevy family) have set a precedent for the CEE culture of entrepreneurship
“Having an entrepreneurial mindset doesn’t only relate to starting a new company,” said Becerik-Gerber
They can be ‘intrapreneurs’ operating within existing companies to innovate and develop new projects
that can-do attitude is an ethos she’s determined to recreate for her own students and colleagues
Ron Antevy first encountered Becerik-Gerber two decades ago, when she was a graduate student organizing a conference around the topic of her doctoral dissertation: online collaboration and project management software for the construction industry. As a civil engineer, Antevy co-founded the project management software company, e-Builder
Those were the early days of e-Builder – which quickly became the online project management go-to for the construction industry
Antevy was in a position to invest in other companies within construction technology
and he witnessed some of the most successful startups and growing companies being led by engineers
“I was lucky enough to meet a few people along the way who inspired and motivated me to build a successful technology business,” said Antevy
But that spirit needs to be supported and developed in the right environment of opportunity.”
Antevy discovered that he didn’t need to go to business school
His degree in civil engineering was the foundation he needed to innovate and be a problem solver – skills that enabled e-Builder to be a breakaway success
As a member of the USC Viterbi Board of Councilors
he advises Dean Yannis Yortsos and his staff on themes related to innovation
the CEE strategic vision could be read as a cue for brainstorming business solutions to attract savvy venture capitalists
The goal of engineering for disaster resilience
environmental stewardship and transport service systems are all ripe for innovation – and the Antevy Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fund will play an important role in boosting the CEE entrepreneurial ecosystem
“I know there are plenty of engineers at USC who would thrive in business – the idea is to provide a strong curriculum
competitions and mentorship to give them the confidence and the skills they need to leverage their ideas,” said Antevy
the fund is indicative of the USC Viterbi drive towards innovation
and in line with the school’s leadership of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Western United States Innovation Hub
“This significant vote of confidence from the NSF allows us to launch a multitude of programs
following the I-Corps lean entrepreneurship mindset,” said Yortsos
“Such programs help us with our mission to engineer a better world for all humanity
a goal more important than ever before.”
investing in civil and environmental engineering solutions is a way of investing in humanity and the future of the planet; far more impactful than chasing after the next tech trend
“Our students and faculty are engaged in research that is directly relevant to the way we live now – and quality of life for future generations,” said Becerik-Gerber
“Dean Yortsos and I are deeply grateful for the generosity of the Antevy family
and their role as partners in shaping the vision for our department and USC Viterbi as a whole.”

Cee has pursued a career of purpose and passion
Alonzo Cee ’18 G’20’s journey from Elon University to Sesame Workshop embodies the essence of purpose-driven leadership and unwavering commitment to community building
“My travel baseball team was playing in a tournament hosted at Elon in the summer of 2012.” At the time Cee was in the process of trying to play Division 1 college baseball before a shoulder injury ended those hopes
This was the year that began down the path to D1 college baseball – going to showcases
playing in tournaments and talking to coaches
“I ended up injuring my shoulder that next spring
which ended my hopes of playing at that level,” he said
Even though he met Elon thanks to baseball
Cee remained interested in attending after his injury
“It seemed like it had a well-rounded education on top of a major
“After attending Phoenix Fusion weekend
an admissions weekend for students of diverse backgrounds and identities
I knew it was the school I wanted to attend.”
While pursuing a master’s of higher education at Elon
Cee’s trajectory took yet another transformative turn
Guided by mentors and propelled by his own experiences
he found his calling in higher education and diversity
This moment led him through pivotal career shifts
from Auburn University to ultimately landing at Sesame Workshop as Manager of Diversity
Sesame Workshop is the non-profit organization behind Sesame Street
the long running children’s educational program
Cee is at the forefront of fostering a culture of belonging and equity
His day-to-day involves crafting and leading workshops
managing employee resource groups and curating enriching learning experiences
he analyzes data to inform initiatives and policies
ensuring that Sesame Workshop remains a beacon of inclusivity
Cee acknowledges the challenges of pivoting careers and navigating the complexities of DEI work
“You get to see the best and worst that humanity has to offer
especially with everything happening in our social and political spheres.” he said
“Even through the best of intentions
Even though DEI is not yet baked into professional life
Cee notes that there is joy to be found in seeing colleagues become their authentic selves through DEI work
“We cannot just envision what this looks like for ourselves
we have to create policies and change culture so that ALL of us can authentically shine as we are,” he said
“Not just inviting people to the ‘party,’ but making sure their voices matter and hold weight.”
Cee credits Elon University for providing the fertile ground where his leadership qualities flourished
jobs and extracurriculars I took on were one of a kind and all played a part in the person I am today,” he said
“Elon was a very well-rounded experience when you are provided with proper guidance and are given the keys to open the endless doors of opportunities,” he added
the proper guidance (and maybe a little intuition) is what put me where I am today
It is the people and the community that I surrounded myself with that shaped me to be the inquisitive equity-centered leader that I am today.”
Cee remains steadfast in his commitment to amplifying marginalized voices and championing equity
Balancing personal aspirations with professional endeavors
community and purpose converge harmoniously
he leaves a profound message for future graduates
“My advice would be to follow your passions and don’t sacrifice your values or who you are for the sake of a job,” he said
we all need to earn a livable wage and pay bills
being passionate about your work and balancing work with the other areas of your life is incredibly important

From the jump, the track, off Cee’s studio debut Can’t Rush Greatness, finds the 26-year-old artist in a reflective state of mind about a former lover whose number he can still recite “by heart.” This person, which many listeners have speculated to be Cee’s ex Madeline Argy
is described in the first verse as being in a state of “partyin’ and hoein’” since their split
Cee raps that he painted “a perfect picture” of himself
and now she's partyin' and hoein'If I had a pound for every time I made her cryOver couple years
then I could probably buy a BoeingPaint a perfect picture of myself
it was a lieShe put my business on the net and now my true colors showin'
rapping of having attempted to buy this ex’s “love,” only for them to respond by confirming that they knew their true “worth.” Cee also praises this person’s maturity while taking a somewhat fatalistic view with regards to his mistakes (“I’ll never learn”) before admitting that he’s “feeling sad” and “really numb inside” despite how full of happiness his public life may appear to fans
Last July, Argy took to TikTok to accuse Cee of infidelity. More specifically, she alleged that he had cheated with Ice Spice
with the ensuing social media controversy (allegedly) part of a larger “marketing scheme.”
On Can’t Rush Greatness opener “No Introduction,” Cee tucks in a clear nod to Spice in the second verse with the line, “Think you’re the shit, bitch? Turn on your whip, does your engine fart?” Spice, of course, had a track on her Y2K album from last year titled “Think U the Shit (Fart),” later highlighted by Jaylen Brown on an episode of Complex’s GOAT Talk as a “worst song of all time” contender.

A survey conducted by The Recursive in early 2025 revealed that 62% of CEE investors anticipate a more favorable investment climate compared to the previous year
Investors are particularly optimistic about opportunities in AI
viewing the current period as an inflection point where short-term challenges coexist with promising long-term growth
The surprising (but also promising) trend is that the region’s enterprise value is growing faster than in Western Europe, with the CEE startup ecosystem now valued at €243 billion, according to the CEE Startups 2025 report
Nevertheless, the current instability is impacting the venture capital ecosystem, with economic and geopolitical uncertainty slowing funding. “It’s much harder to raise during a recession — VCs are focused on protecting their portfolios,” Robert Herscovici
We see Q1 of 2025 as a window into the region’s shifting dynamics – where capital is being deployed
we reflect on the quarter from our perspective as active participants in the CEE venture space
January was marked by strong early-stage momentum and a clear focus on cybersecurity and AI-driven platforms. Leading the month was Poland’s Fudo Security
raising €9.4 million from bValue Growth Fund to expand its privileged access management solutions
Two Croatian startups, OUTFINDO and Hypefy
both backed by Interactive Venture Partners
making the firm the most active VC of the month
Their double-down on influencer marketing automation signals a growing interest in niche AI verticals.
J&T Ventures also made moves via their investment in Wultra
a Czech startup building post-quantum authentication tools
Their co-investors included Tensor Ventures and Elevator Ventures
pointing to rising demand for financial-grade cybersecurity in the region
SMOK Ventures kept up its consistent early-stage strategy, leading a pre-seed round in Poland’s Wonder Legends Studio
and participating in Ukraine’s LetsData
Other active firms included PortfoLion and Fil Rouge Capital
showing a strong appetite for B2B AI and SaaS-focused plays across Hungary
shared previously for The Recursive: “The AI hype cycle is messy
but B2B AI startups that help businesses cut costs and improve efficiency are getting real traction.”
February witnessed larger Series A and B rounds
with Polish robotics startup Nomagic securing one of the largest rounds this year
Catalyst Romania took part in two major rounds. The fund co-invested in Footprints AI and had earlier backed .Lumen
a startup developing AI-powered glasses for the blind
Bulgarian LAUNCHub Ventures drew attention through its participation in Bulgarian-founded UVIONIX
a company developing autonomous AI-powered drones for inventory monitoring
Their co-investors included local presence from Budapest-based PortfoLion and Bucharest-based Underline Ventures
On the global side, True Ventures and Play Ventures co-led a surprising €13.4 million Series A into Romania’s Bible Chat
This round was joined by Romanian Early Game Ventures and Underline Ventures
as well as Slovenian Silicon Gardens.
Rockaway Ventures, a newer fund from Rockaway Capital, entered with a smaller but strategic ticket into US-Slovakian CulturePulse
