América Femenil is heading to the Liga MX Femenil final after a dominant 2-0 win over rivals Chivas Femenil in the second leg of their Clausura 2025 semifinal
Las Águilas sealed their place in the championship match — once again eliminating Chivas from the playoffs
The highly anticipated second leg of the América – Guadalajara rivalry took place on Sunday at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes
América only needed a draw to advance thanks to their first-place finish in the regular season
But they didn’t settle — they went out and took the match
applying high pressure and dominating possession early on
Chivas’ defense managed to hold off several attacks
the breakthrough came. Kiana Palacios opened the scoring with a brilliant chest control and finish in stoppage time of the first half
Shortly after the second half began, Montse Saldívar doubled the lead by tapping in a perfectly placed cross
That goal crushed Chivas’ hopes and put América firmly in control
Guadalajara failed to create any real danger and never looked close to turning the game around
The semifinal series reminded fans why the América – Guadalajara rivalry is one of the fiercest in Mexican football
ended 2-2 with goals from Licha Cervantes (brace) for Chivas
and Saldívar and Nancy Antonio for América
With away goals not counting in Liga MX Femenil playoffs
the tie-breaker came down to league position — a rule that favored América after finishing as the top team in the regular season with the best offense (60 goals)
despite boasting the best defense during the season (only 10 goals conceded)
América Femenil becomes the first team to reach the Clausura 2025 final
They’ll now wait to face the winner of the other semifinal between Pachuca and Monterrey
This marks a return to the final for América after falling short in the Apertura 2024
the team has built a balanced and high-intensity style that could very well lead them to another league title
First leg: Chivas 2-2 América (Estadio Akron)
Second leg: América 2-0 Chivas (Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes)
With another statement win over Chivas, Club América Femenil proves they’re still a powerhouse
and now just one step away from lifting the Clausura 2025 trophy

Resort celebrates 30 years as the least 'institutionalised' institution in the wellness world
"Venerable" might seem an odd word to describe a wellness resort
they tend to promote the tireless pursuit of "eternal youth" or at least increased healthspan
But it feels apposite in the case of Chiva-Som
the "spa scene" was a more binary affair than it is today: "fat farms" on the one hand
white-coated medical facilities on the other
Once a holiday home in the resort town of Hua Hin on the Thai riviera
Boonchu Rojanastien (a banker and former Thai deputy prime minister)
decided to switch from hosting family and friends on sports- and recreation-laden weekends to develop a globally recognised wellness retreat that is today run by Boonchu's son
That it remains a "family affair" accounts for the special place Chiva-Som has in the hearts of its many returning guests (one UK fan has visited over 90 times)
The beachfront estate on which it sits might be flanked by the more prosaic elements of a seaside town
but the feeling of the place – summoned in its dense foliage and warm
enveloping furnishings (be sure to check into one of the residential-style Pavilions) – bespeaks a far more familial vibe than typically found in similarly equipped sanctuaries elsewhere
the facilities are second to none (a quick peruse of its website will ascertain that)
but it's the overall approach that distinguishes Chiva-Som in a market it largely helped to create
Krip's mission has been to recreate the simple pleasures of his childhood
Fast-forward 30 years and the substantive elements of a week-long stay at Chiva-Som are much the same

programmes are focused on establishing personal goals
developing new habits with which to prolong health and happiness
That's the challenge and beauty of life – if you are well enough to do it."
Another of Krip's observations – "the world is rapidly changing
so why shouldn't we?" – accounts for a substantial sustainability component to Chiva-Som's operations
Solar energy for heating has been in place for 20 years
waste water is recycled to water the extensive grounds and a small
five-acre organic farm created a few miles away in Hua Hin's hidden mangrove
which Chiva-Som's staff are helping to protect and grow

So why do ardent admirers of the original continue to flock to Hua Hin
Because of a reputation earned over three decades
increased competition for this "first mover" has bred quality
who gave up a career as one of the country's top economists to develop Chiva-Som as a global wellness centre
a greater focus on epigenetics and the effects of our environment on health and vitality
a year-long programme of "retreats" to celebrate 30 years as the least "institutionalised" institution in the wellness world
Chiva-Som Hua Hin is offering a 10 percent saving across its 16 wellness retreats when staying in one of the resort's Thai Pavilions or Thai Pavilion Suites throughout 2025

Spain (AP) — Irene Cuevas will never forget the sound of the waves crashing below her apartment’s balcony
If only there had been a flash of lightning in the darkness to let her glimpse what sounded like a roaring sea
“It was a constant fear because we didn’t have light to see by,” Cuevas told The Associated Press
The street was completely flooded and we were hoping for some lightning so that we could at least see what situation we were in
“We have that sound of the waves burned in our memory.”
Chiva got more rain in eight hours than the town had experienced in the preceding 20 months
Cuevas was at home and saw how the gorge dividing her village suddenly overflowed with rushing water
The tsunami-like wall of water claimed at least seven lives in Chiva
either in collapsed houses or in the gorge
“It was terrifying because that night it began to rain and the water began to overflow the gorge and started carrying away cars and trees,” Cuevas said
“The underpasses of the bridges started to clog with debris
and the water started to flow through the entire village.”
called the “Barranco de Chiva,” is normally dry
but it is fed into by several other runoff gorges and channels water to vineyards below
The huge storm sent a blast of water that knocked down two of the four bridges crossing the gorge
bringing down a sidewalk and several houses and tearing holes in others
who moved to Chiva when she got married 18 years ago
lives one street over from the buildings bordering the gorge
She and other people living in her apartment building helped several neighbors from the building in front when they feared it would come down
The neighbors said their building trembled from the force of the water
Cuevas and her fellow residents helped tie ropes or cords across the street so that the people on the other side could hang on as they waded through the rushing water
They then made it up the stairs and some 20 people spent a sleepless night in her second-floor apartment and the apartment above
described herself as traumatized by her memories of the fury of the waves and the sound of “doors exploding” from the water’s force
It was as if their building had become a ship lost in a storm at sea in the pitch black night
waves in the street below where the water came in the other direction and ran into the water coming from the gorge,” Cuevas said
the two currents hit and produced terrifying waves.”
“When the daylight came we could see the damage,” Cuevas said
“We saw all the houses that had disappeared and there was a feeling of impotence because you didn’t know where to start looking for people.”
Five thousand more soldiers are arriving in the area this weekend to help the 2,500 already deployed
Thousands of police officers have also been sent in
But for now it is the people themselves still leading the way
“Now we need to clean up and try to get back to normal because there are more rains forecast for the weekend
“We are trying to get everything ready for when the rains comes back

A woman with the smallest hands I’ve ever seen is inflicting great pain upon my thighs via a series of very tiny but intense slaps that would make even the most avowed masochist feel slightly out of their depth. I try not to wince, hoping for all the drainage possible for my puffy legs after a 12-hour-flight and four-hour car transfer to Chiva-Som, one of the world’s most famous wellness retreats, situated in Hua Hin, Thailand
But after the blows come the thwacks with balled fists
The therapist spots this and asks if I want her to dial it down
to which I say a categorical “No!” — telling her that this is what I’m here for
before fighting the urge to shimmy my thighs
Over the course of my six-day stay I try a vast many
including one that made me so sleepy that I woke up mid-snore as a masseuse of uncommon skill was stroking my feet
and another that miraculously undid the effects of carrying a heavy handbag every day in London
The pain was well worth enduring; after an hour
all the water that had pooled in my ankles and feet was gone
given the length of the flight (mercifully direct
an airline deserving of its plaudits for attention to details like issuing lip balm and a ready supply of scented towels to refresh inflight) coupled with the heavy heat of Thailand was quite a feat
Massage is a good place to start when explaining the appeal of this much-lauded wellness spot that has over its three decades drawn Kate Moss, Madonna and Naomi Campbell among many
Their approach encompasses many things from nutrition to rest to epigenetic testing which can help to determine any health blind spots might need addressing. Yet it is pleasingly free of any sense of the draconian, with these (mostly) pleasurable massages at the core of it all, nudging guests towards better wellbeing
I am told that they’re efficacious not only in the short-term but also long-term thanks to the different methods and styles really sorting any deep-rooted stress carried in the body
I find myself wondering why more places don’t try this carrot and not the stick approach
deciding that of the many wellness endeavours I’ve reviewed over the years
this is the one that has to date felt the least like hard work
Some of that sense of more traditional break is of course in the setting. We’re talking candle-lit meals overlooking the ocean lapping the sand, sun hazily baking a tan onto skin, palm trees lolling overhead. It is also in no small part to do with the intimacy of the Hua Hin resort, which makes sense when considering that former Thai deputy prime minister and banker Boonchu Rojanastien wanted it to be his personal retreat
but when it enjoyed a lot of attention courtesy of his wider circle
he ended up turned it into the wellness haven we know it as today
and under his care has continued to appeal to high-fliers in need of a complete escape from life and
the massages are superlative and lounging poolside seductive
but Chiva-Som is impressively comprehensive
and will discreetly organise all manner of the aforementioned sessions to make you feel better
Less congruous with their approach is the prospect of a forthcoming Ozempic programme to recalibrate after losing weight and a clinic offering injectables including Botox and fillers
I was there for the same reason I suspect Kate Moss is such a devotee: I wanted to escape during the bleakness of London’s long winter to soak up the sun and to dodge soaking up quite so much wine at parties
while the food was low in calories but high in novelty and flavour masking the fact that it was all free of any of the sugar
fat and alcohol usually associated with a sunny break
Adding to the joy is the format of the food: a buffet at breakfast and dinner
meaning you can feel gluttonous without any kick back from the digestive system
but once again the army of chefs have hidden the health of each dish within an abundance of flavour
This restorative trifecta of lazing overlooking the ocean
and being thoroughly massaged to release every knot of tension is how Chiva-Som beats others and continues to lure customers with the means to go pretty much anywhere
I look back on my time there as I would a holiday which
given that there were no vices whatsoever on offer
Even more remarkable: when I got off the flight home
but snoozing with my neck at an odd angle didn’t result in a single muscle ache

D.C. United have acquired winger Fidel Barajas on loan from LIGA MX's Chivas Guadalajara
Barajas joins the Black-and-Red through June 30
The 18-year-old Mexican youth international returns for his second stint in MLS, after producing 0g/2a in 17 regular-season matches (five starts) for Real Salt Lake last year
Barajas spent time with the San Jose Earthquakes academy before breaking out at USL Championship side Charleston Battery and joining RSL
who transferred him to Chivas last July for a reported $4 million fee
He's since made seven appearances for the Rebaño Sagrado
“Fidel is a promising young talent with a high ceiling for development at only 18 years old,” said general manager and CSO Ally Mackay
A key player for Mexico at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup and 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship, Barajas is the latest addition to a revamped D.C. attack that's added João Peglow and Randall Leal this winter

As the Mexicans desperately searched for a spark
Chivas teenager Jonathan Padilla whipped in a dangerous cross and Rey knocked a clutch header off the post in the 90’+10 to secure an away draw.

Chivas brought experienced players such as Alan Pulido and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez off the bench in the second half in search of an equalizer
