Paramedics performed CPR for around half an hour but were unable to save the tourist
News | UK
A British tourist drowned while swimming on a Spanish beach while a red flag was up
Lifeguards warned tourists not to go in the sea at Raco beach in Cullera due to strong currents on Tuesday
But sadly a 77-year-old man was pulled out of the water unresponsive
Paramedics rushed to the scene on Tuesday and the Sun reports that they performed CPR for around half an hour
But they were unable to save the British tourist
Two other swimmers have drowned this summer in the Spanish tourist hotspot
Another two people have also recently been rescued from the same area
It comes after a 71-year-old British tourist died after being pulled unconscious from the sea in Greece
The woman was pronounced dead in hospital after she was found near the town of Gouvia
An investigation is being carried out by the Central Port Authority of Corfu
A body has also been found in the search for a British teenager who was washed out to sea off the Dutch coast
was swimming with three friends on a beach near The Hague when she went missing on Sunday
The group desperately tried to save their friend but they became trapped in the “wild” current
Rescuers rushed to help the friends near the Zuidelijk Havenhoofd in the Netherlands at around 8:30pm on Sunday
Three of the swimmers were plucked out of the water but the teenage girl could not be found

Stage 6 of the Vuelta a España is flat for the majority
but a 2km wall will force the GC contenders to the fore
Stage 6 of La Vuelta 2021 casts a friendly profile
with what looks like a long downhill followed by a lengthy flat section within its 160km route
Cullera this year returns to La Vuelta to host a stage finish for only the second time — it staged the conclusion to stage 2 in 1980
The day will be defined by the Alto de la Montaña de Cullera — a 2km ascent
which is better described as a wall due to its absurd gradients
Vuelta 2021 Guide
the race heads east towards the Balearic Sea
The breakaway will form in the first 100 kilometres on undulating terrain
but they have little chance of holding off the peloton
which is where the intermediate sprint is found
Just over 60 kilometres remain from this point
with the race now travelling south alongside the coast
The road remains flat in its entirety until 2.2km remain
The Alto de la Montaña de Cullera averages 9.4% over 1.9km
and it remains that way until the final 100 metres
where the road finally begins to flatten slightly
so the fight for position beforehand will be manic
Those at the front of the race entering the climb have a substantial advantage over the riders further back
The riders won’t be able to enjoy the stunning view of Cullera presented to them as they race to the top

Primoz Roglic lost the red jersey to Rein Taaramäe on stage 3 (Image credit: Luis Angel Gomez / ASO)
The Alto de la Montaña was used at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana recently — Tadej Pogačar won on the climb in 2020 ahead of Alejandro Valverde and Dylan Teuns
This demonstrates just how difficult the ascent is
we can assume that the GC favourites will come to the fore
Considering the characteristics of the Alto de la Montaña
Primož Roglič begins as the heavy favourite
The Slovenian has demonstrated his ability on short
notably at La Flèche Wallonne earlier this season when he came agonisingly close to defeating the seemingly unbeatatable Julian Alaphilippe
Roglič starts the stage just 5 seconds behind red jersey holder Kenny Elissonde — if Roglic does win the stage
Elissonde must finish second to have a chance of retaining the maillot rojo
Second to Pogačar at the Volta Comunitat Valenciana last year was Alejandro Valverde
The climb suits the Spaniard’s qualities — he’s a great puncher with a rapid sprint finish
He demonstrated brilliant legs on Picón Blanco a couple of days ago to finish with the primary GC favourites
Enric Mas and Miguel Ángel López also showed strength for Movistar on the first uphill test
Olympic champion Richard Carapaz showed signs of weakness on Picón Blanco
suggesting the Ineos Grenadiers will now turn their focus to Adam Yates and Egan Bernal
Both have demonstrated their capability on short climbs before — will they be aggressive or follow the wheels
Bahrain-Victorious took charge on Picón Blanco
but their GC leader Mikel Landa decided to act with caution
“I hadn’t felt confident about today’s stage but I’ve been able to be up there with the best.” We can expect Landa to grow into the Vuelta after crashing out of the Giro d’Italia earlier this season
perhaps Bahrain will allow another of their riders to attack
who was fifth at the Volta Comunitat Valenciana last year
Other GC riders to look out for include Giulio Ciccone
Outside of the general classification riders
Although Adam Yates and Alejandro Valverde could pose a challenge
If the breakaway is caught and the stage win is up for grabs
Roglic won’t hesitate to seize the 10 bonus seconds that lie at the finish line
Primož Roglič is our pick to win stage 6 of the Vuelta a España and hold the red jersey at the end of the stage too

La Unio de Llauradors stated that the town of Cullera (Ribera Baixa) was starting to make the first cuts in open field pumpkin crops in the Valencian territory and in all of Spain this week
and for the second year in a row as a result of the COVID-19 health crisis
people have been unable to celebrate or eat a meal with a menu consisting of products combined with pumpkin
It should be noted that Cullera has become a focal point for the production of pumpkins in the region of Valencia
the cultivated area continues to grow and there are already about 300 hectares dedicated to this crop
There are five different varieties of pumpkin cultivated and the campaign begins with the organically grown Potimarron variety
which is grown on land in the Albufera Natural Park
80% of the organic pumpkin produced in the Ribera Baixa area is destined for export while practically all the conventional pumpkin is directed to the domestic market
La Unio de Llauradors is committed to promoting the consumption of organic products in the regions
so that consumers can enjoy local food grown without chemicals and so that not all of the production is exported
The Potimarron variety will be followed by the hybrid Peanut
producers are starting to work with the angel hair squash and there are already talks with agri-food companies to increase production to supply the industry if the tests continue yielding positive results
The number of farmers interested in producing pumpkin in Cullera is increasing as a result of the region's productive capacity and the interest of the businesses to acquire this product
some 10 producers are already professionally dedicated to producing this crop

Headliners at this year’s festival include American DJ Steve Aoki
I've never experienced anything like it before
The tragedy happened just at the end of my session on the main stage
I am still in shock,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories

Malaga lifted a red alert for extreme risk early Thursday after 3,000 people were evacuated on Wednesday following rainfall reaching up to 120 liters per square meter in just 12 hours
Schools and universities across the province remained closed
Valencia also lifted its red alert for extreme risk
an orange alert (high risk) remains in effect
warning of potential rainfall up to 100 liters per square meter over 12 hours in coastal areas
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has also issued an orange alert for Castellón

has been the latest to opt for introducing smart traffic management solutions in that part of the country
its City Council contracted the Pavapark company to install two intelligent pedestrian crossings and two educational radars on key traffic locations
Pavapark is a Spanish company specializing in the development of smart city solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into urban traffic management systems
The company installed educational radars on the Bega Bridge and on Corbera Street
two busy locations in the connection between Cullera and the A-38 national road
The “educational” part is that they are designed to encourage behavioural change
these radars show the approaching speed of the vehicles and offer the possibility of adding messages and icons. In this way
it is intended to make drivers aware of their driving speed
the drivers can read a “Thank you” message
As for the smart pedestrian crossings in Cullera
one is located on one of the town’s main streets
at the intersection with Águila Street
The second crossing has been installed on Cervantes Street and another two are planned to be put into operation on Port Avenue
They are made up of 14 luminous horizontal signalling plates located at the ends of each white band of the zebra crossing
six RLP pilot lights at the ends of each black zone of the pedestrian crossing and two vertical signs that are also luminous
The light signalling is activated when the vertical signal detection sensors indicate that a pedestrian is about to cross. The plates emit white light and are activated only at night
the RLP pilot lights emit red light and work during the daytime
while the vertical signs have both white and red lights and are activated at any time
zebra crossings give a visible warning that a user is going to cross or is already crossing so that drivers get the chance to slow down and stop their vehicles
Pavapark has been involved in the installation of similar smart-city innovations in other towns of the Valencian autonomous region

on what was an important test for the overall contenders ahead of the Altea summit finish on stage 4
The 181km stage from Torrent to Cullera contained two early climbs but was all about the snaking final climb to the radar station above the coastal town
which averaged nine per cent and reached 21 per cent in parts
Caja Rural's Gonzalo Serrano tried to upset the order with an early attack but the favourites remained patient and when he was caught
Pogačar's teammate Jan Polanc looked to draw out the others with an attack
Gianni Moscon (Team Ineos) responded and surged clear but faded as Valverde came to the fore in the final 150 metres
it looked like the usual scenario of a Valverde win on an uphill finish in an early-season Spanish stage race
but Pogačar continued to gain momentum behind and came around the 39-year-old just before the line
"I actually surprised myself today," Pogačar said
because I never know how my form is after long break."
with a couple of bike lengths – though no time gap – to Martin
who was followed by Jack Haig (Mitchelton-Scott)
There was then a five-second gap to Greg Van Avermaet in 10th
Pogačar leads the race but is tied on time with those other eight riders
The battle for the overall title is set to come down to the tough five-kilometre climb to Altea on Saturday
"For sure we will try to do everything to keep the jersey," said Pogačar
The stage started out with an early break containing some decent firepower in Remi Cavagna (Deceuninck-QuickStep)
who were joined by the Caja Rural duo of Alvaro Cuadros and Hector Saez
Cuadros' brief was to take the mountains jersey
being first to the top of the second-category Alto Dos Aguas after 46km and the second-category Puerto Alto Millares after 71km
He stayed with his companions on the undulating following 40km and down onto the flatter final part of the stage
a bunch dash up the final climb seemed inevitable
but the peloton weren't always in total control as the breakaway were allowed to gain well over five minutes
and still enjoyed a buffer of four minutes heading into the final 50km
"The first part of the stage was really hard because nobody knew who would start to pull in the peloton
and when we started to ride it was full gas
and it was down to just 20 seconds at the 10km-to-go banner
Cavagna refused to give in and tried a speculative long-range solo effort
The young French rouleur gave it a good go but was caught on the coast with 4km to go

Bahrain McLaren took pole position ahead of the tight right-hand turn onto the final climb
He barely sat down as he opened up a handsome margin
but he eventually paid for his efforts and faded markedly inside the final kilometre
with Ben Swift leading Geoghegan Hart and Moscon
but Polanc looked to soften up the reduced group with an attack
Valverde was moving through the gears but Pogačar
had other ideas and came around on the slight final bend in time to punch the air in delight

This fascinating and quite compulsive documentary about Alzheimer’s Disease is set apart from similar medical documentaries through the sheer charisma and personality of Pasqual Maragall
the former Mayor of Barcelona and President of Catalunya who was diagnosed with the disease in 2007
and who allowed documentary maker Carles Bosch intimate access to his life
The film very much has ‘TV’ written all over it in terms of distribution
but it could well intrigue cable and broadcasters interested in real-life stories
and willing to invest in Maragall’s winning personality
It is a little too long – though could easily be trimmed for TV programming slots – and tries too hard to tie elements together
The film screened out of competition in the official section of the San Sebastian Film Festival
the popular politician Maragall promptly calls a news conference and announces his situation
friends and colleagues he sets out on a crusade to focus medical and fundraising attention on the disease while also seeking medical advice
The film pulls no punches as it traces the concerns of his wife Diana Garrigosa and three adult children as they support him in his campaign
but also voice concerns on the changes in him and how his position of wanting freedom naturally also impacts on them and their lives
Then film is at its most moving as Maragall’s sheer force of personality drives the campaign along – whether it be him meeting the Barcelona football team or playing soccer with a small child in the street – as his genial attitude and gently tactile behaviour endears him to all
Delightful moments include his children disabling his car so he won’t drive any more
only for him to find a friendly mechanic who will fix it within hours; sitting listening to classical music in his study
or a trip to New York where he charms his way into the apartment he and his young family used to live in many years before
The Maragall story is intercut with doctors and experts discussing AD and how it might be combated
and a series of scenes of other AD sufferers around the world – in the US
India and Holland – talking to their doctors
apple’ are simply words that the doctors might ask an AD sufferer (the words change from doctor to country) to try and remember
