The Croquette Days return to Denia – an event that
following the success of last year’s edition
is growing in both participants and proposals
the number of croquettes available to try has also increased – no fewer than 56 in total – in this celebration of one of the iconic staples of spanish gastronomy
These delights will be available to savour from Monday 21 April to Thursday 15 May at a single set price: for just €4.50, visitors can enjoy 2 croquettes plus a glass of wine, a small beer, or a vermouth at a range of well-known venues located in Denia’s town centre. And this year, there’s a new feature: for the first time, a restaurant in Les Rotes is also taking part.
Among the 56 croquettes featured in Dénia’s Croquette Days
there’s an incredible variety of flavours – each bar and restaurant is offering two or three different options
and there’s even a good number of gluten-free options
You’ll find classics like ham, puchero stew, spinach or cod; as well as more original and innovative creations such as chistorra sausage with fried egg
These are just a few examples of the many tempting options available in this mouth-watering edition
Here the 56 croquettes from the 26 participating bars and restaurants

A page from a city staff presentation shows the proposed land swap between the city and Denton ISD with the new location of Borman Elementary School next to Denia Park
Denton City Council approved the exchange of 3.7 acres of land for 4.7 acres of land from Denton ISD
The land swap will allow the school district to relocate the 54-year-old Borman Elementary School
Denia Recreation Center and Borman have long been neighbors
Denton ISD hopes to scoot the campus just a little southeast of its present location
The Denton City Council unanimously approved a proposed land swap with Denton ISD on Tuesday night
The land swap would move the Borman Elementary School campus from its current location — adjacent to Denia Recreation Center
which it shares a driveway with — to just southeast of the existing site
During a public hearing earlier this month
city officials said the school district would prefer to start construction by the end of this year
The exchange is slightly more generous to the city
which is trading 3.7 acres of Denia Park for 4.7 acres from Denton ISD
The swap includes an additional 400 square feet in the new Borman building for the city’s use
School officials said the plan addresses some long-standing concerns about traffic during drop-off and pickup times
The council was set to vote on the swap weeks ago but asked the city and school district to meet with the Denia Area Community Group
Members of the group raised concerns that the two agencies hadn’t met and discussed a major public project in their neighborhood
the Denia group’s consensus was support for the swap and the work Denton ISD put into improving traffic flow at and around the school
Denia Park is a 23-acre community park with a trail
The park includes a multipurpose grass field with soccer goals
The school was named for astronaut Frank Borman
City officials said the project includes a number of proposed improvements to the park:

The Croquette Days They return with more flavor than ever

which seeks to boost the gastronomic offering during the mid-season and showcase the creativity of local chefs
participating establishments are spread throughout the municipality
allowing diners to enjoy a pleasant stroll through the streets of Dénia while discovering new offerings
saltpeter and wet rockThis morning begins with a leisurely stroll along Les Rotes
that stretch of coast where words are unnecessary and steps slow down
with the calm of someone who has nothing urgent and everything
The kind that awakens when the air smells of the sea and the conversation flows without a prior plan
To our left, the sea. Blue, immense, trusting. To the right, the Montgó, that sleeping giant that seems to bless every corner of Dénia
the sound of the waves and the aroma of embersSomething catches us without warning: the smell of salt
of sharing dishes without looking at the clock
We have reached the restaurant MenaWhite walls
and an atmosphere that isn't invented: it's felt
The terrace opens onto the sea like a blank page
The sun shines in from the side and the sea is so close that you can touch it with a fork. The tablecloth flutters in the breeze and the cutlery clinks discreetly
the Mediterranean isn't just seen: it's heard
We sat down like those who already knew what to expect
There are no disguises here: there are embers
rice and freshly brought fishThe menu speaks of rooted cuisine
of hands that know when to take the paella off the heat without looking at the time
the adults look at the menu as if it were a map of familiar flavors
just a desire to be there. And try that red shrimp that's almost a local religion
that grilled squid that crunches on the outside and melts on the inside
The children dip bread and the adults toast slowly. The white wine arrives chilled and becomes a conversation piece
One of those wines that needs no explanation
because it fits in with the light and the company
We clean our plates as if each bite anchors us a little deeper. The seagulls approach without disturbing
The aroma of rice mixes with that of the sea
and it is impossible to distinguish which is more exciting
Everything tastes like it should tasteAnd that's not easy
It's not every day you find rice like this
The sea continues to shine and the after-dinner conversation continues without guilt.Everything happens to the rhythm of the horizon
as if moving would break something sacred. It's the kind of meal that ends up in the table and continues in the memory
It is the place to which one returns when one wants to reconnect with the essentialAnd that
It's not just a meal; it's an emotional anchor on the map of Dénia
The Mena Restaurant in Dénia needs no embellishment
authentic flavor and respect for what is always the same. And it shows in every gesture
made with hands that understand fire and time
This corner of Les Rotes is an unavoidable destination

a migratory bird that is currently protected due to its vulnerable status resulting from various human activities
dedicated teams will be seen installing barriers made of poles and hunting nets along the dunes

She told a police detective that she was hanging out with Mendez Gomez in his vehicle when a masked person wearing all-black clothing knocked on the driver’s side window and said something to Mendez Gomez
The affidavit states Cortes said that she did not remember what the person said to Mendez Gomez but that she saw a gun in the person’s hand
Mendez Gomez put the vehicle in reverse and said something like
The vehicle came to a rest in a ditch on the far east side of the parking lot
Two third-party witnesses in another area of the park went over to the sedan shortly after the crash
They told the detective they saw a masked person wearing all black standing by the wrecked sedan
The witnesses specified that the masked person was standing near the passenger side of the vehicle where Cortes was sitting
They said they never saw anyone else walking in the park
The affidavit states that Cortes also said she saw the masked person at the scene of the wreck
She said this was the same person who knocked on the window before the wreck
she allegedly stated that the masked person was standing in front of the vehicle by a tree after the wreck
Officers located a single .40-caliber spent shell casing in the parking lot where witnesses said the vehicle was parked before the shooting
investigators identified Cortes’ boyfriend
Cortes allegedly told investigators that she had not seen Williams the day or night of the shooting
But investigators obtained multiple search warrants for electronic communication records and location data
These searches yielded evidence that Williams had followed the path of Mendez Gomez and Cortes before the shooting
The affidavits state that security footage from nearby businesses and residences captured a black Hyundai Elantra that matched one belonging to Cortes
One video showed Williams getting into the driver’s seat of the Elantra in front of his house on the night of the shooting
Williams’ location data placed him at Cortes’ house just before following Cortes and Mendez Gomez to the shooting location
Another video showed a person who matched the description of Williams walking down Roselawn Drive
A detective applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for Williams on Feb
He remains in the Denton County Jail as of Wednesday afternoon
Williams could face life without parole or death if convicted
depending on if the state seeks the death penalty
a “person with knowledge of the incident” spoke to the detective about statements Cortes allegedly made after the shooting
An affidavit states that witnesses had a conversation with Cortes in which she admitted that the shooting was a robbery that she and Williams planned
The couple planned the robbery because “they needed money,” according to the affidavit
Cortes allegedly told the witnesses that Williams was using her phone location through an app to track her and Mendez Gomez
The affidavit states Cortes said she knew Williams would have a gun
Investigators interviewed Cortes multiple times throughout the investigation
The affidavit states that she made statements that contradicted the evidence and facts that investigators gathered
They applied for and obtained a capital murder warrant for Cortes’ arrest on Feb
Cortes posted $250,000 bail and was released from the Denton County Jail on March 8
her indictment accuses her of aggravated robbery
It states that while “committing theft of property with intent to obtain or maintain control of said property
[she did] intentionally or knowingly threaten or place [Mendez Gomez] in fear of imminent bodily injury or death
Cortes could face up to 99 years or life in prison
