Tolleson Union High School District confirmed to Arizona’s Family that Dr
Elda Luna-Najera was replaced as the governing board president on Wednesday night
Officials say she was replaced “so that school business could proceed.”
Kino Flores was voted as the new board president
Steve Chapman will serve as vice president
Luna-Najera will remain as a member of the Tolleson Union High School District board
Arizona’s Family reported an “outside independent party” was called in to investigate claims of sexual harassment
Superintendent Jeremy Calles reportedly filed the complaint after months of unwanted sexual advances by then-president Dr
Superintendent Calles claimed the unwanted advances began last December
He said when he rebuffed Luna-Najera in April
she leveraged her position as governing board president to try to force him out
“I’m all for gender equality and empowering our women and bringing them up to leadership positions
but there’s two sides of that coin,” he previously said

A 48-year-old worker’s life was saved thanks to the swift response of two officers from Elda’s Local Police
The injured party suffered a 380-volt electric shock at a company in the Finca Lacy industrial estate. The Council confirmed the details of the heroic intervention earlier this week
The officers rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call via 112
reporting that a worker had lost consciousness in a workplace accident
they found the man unconscious inside a van
showing signs of cyanosis and in full cardiac arrest
while the other prepared the defibrillator carried in their patrol car
Before the emergency medical team (SAMU) arrived, the officers managed to deliver several defibrillator shocks and continued with resuscitation efforts. Their quick actions kept the man alive long enough for medical professionals, supported by a second police patrol, to intubate and stabilise him. He was then taken in critical condition to Elda Hospital
they accompanied the ambulance to the hospital
where the patient remained in a very serious condition for several days
he is now out of danger and continues to recover
A follow-up investigation revealed that the worker had been electrocuted after grabbing a cable from a faulty electrical installation at his workplace
A colleague managed to pull him away from the cable
but the shock had already caused significant injuries

School district to probe sexual harassment allegations against lawmaker
A Democratic state representative also serving as the president of the Tolleson Union High School District Governing Board is under investigation for alleged sexual harassment toward the district’s superintendent and creating a hostile work environment
The school district has hired an outside firm to investigate the allegations against Rep
the board’s vice president Kino Flores said during a board meeting Tuesday night
District Superintendent Jeremy Calles said he filed a sexual harassment and hostile work environment complaint against Luna-Nájera, 12News reported on Friday
The board held a meeting Friday to consider Calles’ contract and he told the station he believed Luna-Nájera was retaliating against him for rejecting her advances and he believed she tried to get the board to terminate his position as superintendent
“At no point has the board considered terminating the superintendent’s employment,” Flores said Tuesday
The board’s Friday emergency meeting only had one agenda item the board members discussed in executive session
Luna-Nájera didn’t respond to requests for comment after Tuesday’s meeting
Calles told The Arizona Capitol Times he was unable to comment further on the matter while it is under investigation
Calles told 12News on Friday that Luna-Nájera had made advances towards him from December to April
Two school board members of Littleton Elementary School District also called for Luna-Nájera’s resignation
Board members Markus Ceniceros and Rachel Barnett wrote a letter to the board Monday and expressed their concern with the “troubling” allegations against Luna-Nájera
especially in a manner that creates a toxic environment
It erodes trust in district leadership and sets a harmful example for our students,” Ceniceros and Barnett wrote in their letter
Leezah Sun’s campaign for state Senate during the primary 2024 primary election
Sun resigned from the House after the House Ethics Committee determined she threatened a lobbyist with the city of Tolleson and Luna Najera was appointed in February to the seat Sun vacated representing Legislative District 22
Barnett was also involved in a child custody dispute in which Sun improperly intervened in June 2023
Sun allegedly attempted to prevent the transfer of the children per a court order and Barnett was the mother in the case
Luna-Najera recently won her primary race to advance to the general election for a House seat in LD22 along with House Minority Leader Lupe Contrearas
Luna-Nájera beat the runner-up in the race
LD22 leans heavily toward Democrats and is not in the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission’s competitive range
“We know the integrity of this investigation is critical to our teachers
to our parents and to the community that we serve,” Flores said
“We have reached no conclusion regarding the allegations
We will not rush to judgment and we have resolved to consider all information available and get all facts

Essential news and information about Arizona government
and new singers perform with the jazz trio
Jeremy Berlin has arranged yet another special night of music
He has invited 12 singers — some whose names are likely familiar
and others who may be new to you — to join his jazz trio at Pathways on Feb
1 and 2 (the lineup will be the same both nights)
The inspiration for the event came from his experience about 15 years ago
when he was invited to take part in a tribute to Nina Simone: “It was an ingenious concept by a promoter to assemble members of Nina Simone’s original band after she passed away
including her daughter and original band members
featuring various interpretations of Nina Simone’s music.”
it struck him to put together a similar kind of review
but with his own twist: “It’s going to be to make performers sing music that is not necessarily in their wheelhouse
or that they don’t think it’s in their wheelhouse
It will present people who don’t necessarily sing jazz
I think it hit people to have such a parade of personalities
“I’ve had an interesting time thinking about who hasn’t done this before
and mixing them with experienced professionals
who has entertained for many years here and in Boston: “Vivian is a thorough pro
not just a great singer but also a great entertainer.” Mark Grandfield performs various forms of music
and advertisements for a living: “He’s really specific
they just get this sense that there’s a new generation coming
to see that than to see the seasoned pros.” Berlin refers to Allison Roberts as another up-and-coming singer
performs around the Island: “She’s got an absolutely stunning voice
It’s the kind that when she starts to sing
because it’s just a remarkably beautiful voice.” Another newcomer is T.J
who works at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School

We have to decide how we are going to make those songs something that we can deliver.” Berlin gives an example with Charlie Granquist
He wants no part in singing jazz standards
He’s going to sing ‘Moon River’ and a song by Orville Peck
We’re going to do our best to make that song legitimate
but to do it justice and give Charlie a platform to sing.”
will perform originals: “Isaac Taylor has selected two pretty difficult but interesting jazz songs by Bob Dorough
best known for writing ‘Schoolhouse Rock!’ He’s kind of iconoclastic and eccentric in the way he sings songs
Isaac has had lots of music around him all his life
will be performing straight-up jazz standards
