Architecture practice VAUMM was commissioned to design a parking building in the Beraun neighbourhood in Errenteria
on a topographically difficult plot with a wooded hillside at the foot of the motorway
The difficult location of the plot meant proposing a building above ground level to reduce excavations and adapting the building to the existing slope to improve access from the road
VAUMM studio uses industrialized systems to insert the building into the urban landscape of this neighbourhood
bolted metal structure that can be reused later
The concrete slab floors are of standardized measurements that allow easy assembly and disassembly for future reuse
is one of the most characteristic elements of the project
The ceramic envelope acts as a curtain allowing constant ventilation in the building
eliminating the need for mechanical ventilation
The façade follows the same concept of assembly and disassembly thanks to the easy handling of the ceramic pieces that make up a pixelated pattern
Project description by VAUMM
The Beraun neighbourhood car park in Errenteria
is presented as an urban infrastructure and a potential architecture that houses vehicles
which in the future could contain any other public use
considering the obsolescence of the motor vehicle
The difficult topographical situation of the plot
a wooded hillside at the foot of the N-1 converted into a motorway
made the project rethink to minimise excavation by proposing a building above ground level
the building is staggered to adapt to the slope of the street
thus facilitating the contact of the different floors with the existing road
The car park is organised in a descending manner
so that vehicles travel through the floors and descend in level
Taming the impact of this public facility for 181 vehicles in this high-density neighbourhood has been the main objective of the project
the work has been carried out with a standardised
bolted metal structure designed for assembly
The same occurs with the solution of the floors
thinking about the future reuse of all these elements
the most characteristic element of the building is surely its perforated skin
A ceramic membrane made with the Flexbrick patent
which follows the same philosophy of assembly and mounting
This ceramic envelope is placed as a curtain or a screen
and given its permeable geometry it eliminates the need for mechanical installations for ventilation of the garage
allowing constant and cross ventilation of the building
its assembly using independent ceramic pieces generates a pixelated pattern on the entire façade that reaches 100 metres in length
By optimising the manufacturing means and the assembly system
four colours close to green and brown have been used
characteristic colours of the wooded hillside to which the building is attached
This artificial graphic pattern domesticates the building
and to a certain extent eliminates the infrastructural crudeness of a car park built using industrialised systems
to insert it into the urban landscape of this working-class neighbourhood
the interior lighting appears through the gaps in this openwork surface
showing the activity of this public facility that is added to the daily life of the neighbourhood

The country’s hospitality market has mostly been defined by family-owned business
these businesses expanded into newer markets and are now managed by the second or third generations
despite owner-operated hotels dominating the sector
management and franchise contracts have seen a healthy growth
Half of Spain’s total hotel room supply comes from owner-operated hotels
which presents a substantial opportunity for international hotel companies to convert this supply into branded hotels

the project entitled ‘the way through the forest’ considers issues such as an aging population and how this rising demographic will impact our urban environments in the future
constructed for pedestrians and built to rise 40 meters in height
the new structure essentially reconnects the public and the ‘split town’
the alaberga quartier was built to accommodate a large number of people as efficiently as possible
buildings were developed over two levels of differing elevations: one one in the lower level organized around the church
with linear blocks that generate blocks and streets; and another area with disseminated buildings that climb the hillsides
the structure has been designed by vaumm to be comprised of two elevators
which are connected by footbridges to cross the hillside and ascend to the higher ground
the architecture intends not to impose itself within the landscape
but instead to blend in with the surroundings
with the specification of a mirror-like material
details of the encompassing deciduous forest and sky above are reflected on the surface
the faces of the elevator towers are composed of glazed elements
allowing pedestrians to gain a tremendous view over the town below as they move upwards

happening now! partnering with antonio citterio, AXOR presents three bathroom concepts that are not merely places of function, but destinations in themselves — sanctuaries of style, context, and personal expression.
Text description provided by the architects. There are projects that overlap different scales, despite at first sight seem inconjugable; scales that impact the city but that fasten its architecture in constructive matter.
City is urban form, urban mesh, public and private, even the population who inhabits the city. The aging of the population is an undeniable reality indeed. In our society, 9 million people are over 65 years old. In 2050, its growth could make reach 15 million, that is, 1 out of 3 citizens could be over 65 years old. Impacts and effects on health, economy or sociology.. are more than evident, but, how will be the impact on our cities?

Grilled White Tuna Belly With Cristal Peppers
1 spring onion or scallion, white parts only, thinly sliced
Drain the peppers, and use two forks to shred them into thin strips. Heat olive oil over low heat in a skillet. Add garlic, and cook until it begins to brown, then add shredded peppers and continue cooking over low heat, about 5 minutes. Strain, reserving oil for another use. Combine spring onion, parsley, peppers, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl. Set aside pepper condiment while you prepare the fish.
Clean the belly by removing the connective tissue; leave the skin intact. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon fine salt on the non-skin side of the fish, then rub both sides with olive oil.
Build a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill. Clean and oil the grill grate. Grill fish, skin-side down, until it reaches desired temperature. Serve with pepper condiment alongside.

(ANS – Urnieta) – The Extraordinary Visitation by Fr Fabio Attard to Spain’s St James the Greater Province (SSM) has continued in March
In recent days he visited the Salesian houses of Logroño
lay people with positions of responsibility in the different sections
Salesian family groups and young people from Salesian schools and youth centers
he also met the Archbishop of Pamplona and Tudela
who has just begun his service for the diocese
From 13-14 March Fr Attard visited Urnieta
"I would like to encourage you to maintain this fraternal and serene atmosphere that exists among you
not only at a personal and community level
but especially because it is a witness that reaches all of us in this house."
Fr Attard travelled to Donostia and here the meeting was an opportunity to appreciate the spirit of communion and fraternity with the Congregation
there is a "connection between the Visit and the theme of the next General Chapter: PASSIONATE ABOUT JESUS CHRIST
Living our Salesian vocation faithfully and prophetically.“
The Salesians of Donostia mainly run three settings in two different cities: in the district of Intxaurrondo (Donostia) and in the district of Kaputxinos
These are the María Auxiliadora school
the Gaztetxo (Donostia) and Alaitasuna (Errenteria) youth centres with their respective social projects
and the San Juan Bosco parish in Errenteria
Andre Maria and María Auxiliadora parishes in Intxaurrondo
Fr Fabio Attard spoke about how to foster a family atmosphere through three key concepts: a climate that communicates welcome
that has people who communicate the spirit of Don Bosco (accompaniment) and that advance proposals and paths of integral growth
His simplicity and closeness have been greatly appreciated by all the people who frequent all the works of this house
the Extraordinary Visitation continued in Azkoitia
where Fr Attard held a meeting with the Salesian community
participated in the Mass on St Joseph's Day and the feast of the AMPA at the Alaibatza Youth Centre
he had the opportunity to visit the Sanctuary of San Ignacio de Loyola and to participate in a dinner in a gastronomic society typical of the Basque Country
From the Azkoitia Community they say: "His presence has encouraged us to strengthen the Salesian educative and pastoral community of Floreaga and to relaunch its project."
in all places Fr Attard attracted attention for his closeness
his great knowledge of the Congregation and his clarity in explaining important issues or guidelines to follow
His ability to listen comforted those who met him
he is dedicating himself to work on the final report
so that in April he can continue his journey in the different houses in Madrid (Paseo

making it closer and opening it up to the neighborhood
creating a new cafeteria and facilitating access to the garden

transforms the relationship of the building with its surroundings and improves the spatial conditions
The project is resolved mainly in a raw way
with exposed installations and a ceiling made of cellulose
an industrial but warm space is achieved that is put at the service of the community and its needs
Project description by Vaumm
The Agustinak business creation centre arose from the reuse of an old religious nursery school and its garden
had a very poor construction and a domestic organisation
unsuitable for the scale and functioning of a larger public building
all the efforts of the project are directed towards transforming the original building to adapt it in scale
dynamic and polyvalent use than the original nursery school
The project opens up a forgotten and closed building to the neighbourhood
introducing uses such as the cafeteria and the convent's former garden as public spaces for neighbourhood coexistence
with a multi-purpose conference room and the main hall of the building
the old U-shaped building is reorganised around a free-standing wooden box
which is transformed into a vertical hall that articulates the building's circulations
thanks to a singular staircase and walkways that act as corridors
The mono-material condition of this space
gives it an abstract character that facilitates its adaptation to different functions
This space also opens up forcefully to the garden and the landscape
transforming the relationship of the building with its surroundings and improving the spatial conditions of the interior
which was extremely dark and closed in the original building
The original facades have been transformed in scale
The original horizontal openings have been transformed vertically by means of steel boxes that resolve the transit between the carpentry and the opaque parts
A black skin of polymer concrete with a slight striping introduces a more neutral and rigorous materiality for a public building
while at the same time giving centre stage to what is happening inside
The interiors have been resolved in a crude way
exposed installations and a projected cellulose ceiling that muffles the noise
A factory space for the creation of new companies linked to creation
they will be the ones to finalise the spaces with their needs and daily activity
the transformation project saves 65% of energy and reduces the CO2 footprint by reusing the original structure
it is a project of reuse; but also of urban recycling by providing the neighbourhood with new meeting spaces
and a public facility open to multiple scenarios
