Technical reports have found that residential building ‘El Barco’ in Esplugues de Llobregat
The building was declared in a state of ruin on Monday and residents were urged to evacuate immediatly.
and as of Tuesday at noon there are still three families remaining inside the building
Social Services have been mediating all day trying to convince these families to leave the building
According to the city council they have cut of their gas supply and are currently requesting other companies to cut of water and electricity
Local authorities have closed off the area around the building in case an intervention is necessary.
“This is a situation that cannot be maintained,” warned the local councilor for urban planning
He also explained that the Esplugues council has contacted courts in the event that families persist and they need to be evicted.
The news comes almost two months after a residential building in Badalona collapsed, killing three people. Since then, six buildings nearby have been evacuated.
Procedures to strengthen the building have started that so evacuated residents can go inside to gather their belongings by the weekend.
The council has some homes lined up to accommodate the evacuated residents, with the most vulnerable families being housed first.
‘El Barco’ was home to more than a hundred people. Out of the 38 families registered there ten have asked for temporary emergency housing.
The building was supposed to be demolished within the coming years, giving local auythorities enough time to finish work on social apartments being built in different areas of Esplugues. With this new development, ‘El Barco’ is set to be demolished by the end of June.
The evicted residents voiced their displeasure with the way the crisis is being handled.
One of them, Ronny Guzmán criticized the council for notifying residents through a phone call in the middle of a workday. The emergency solution for the first 48 hours is for the residents to stay in a hostel in Barcelona’s Poblenou neighborhood which they must stay out ofbetween the hours of 10 am and 7 pm. “What am I supposed to do with my children during that time?” Guzmán asked.
Some of those affected, alongside a group of protesters, went to the social services office near ‘El Barco’ to protest on Tuesday. At that time, officials were holding meetings with those evicted to deal with each individual case.

Barcelona residents and visitors alike will already be familiar with the red bikes that make up the city's Bicing bicycle sharing scheme. From 2023, the wider metropolitan area will have its own equivalent in red and blue livery: AMBici.
AMBici will be launched progressively next year with 2,600 latest-generation electric bikes and 236 parking stations.
Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Sant Joan Despí and Cornellà de Llobregat will be the first municipalities to welcome the new scheme at the beginning of 2023, with the rollout reaching twelve other municipalities over the following three months.
The annual cost of the service in 2023 will be €25. This allows users to use bikes for 30 minutes free of charge. After the first half hour the cost will be 50 cents per 30 minutes.
From 2024, the subscription will rise to €40 a year and cost 15 cents for the first half hour and 50 cents per half hour thereafter.
It has not proved possible to fully integrate the new AMBici scheme with Barcelona's existing bikeshare system, Bicing.
However, to facilitate shared use, seven transfer stations will be installed, two in Sant Adrià de Besòs, three in L'Hospitalet, and one each in Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Esplugues de Llobregat, where users of the two systems can swap their AMBici bike for a Bicing one or vice versa.
An integrated metropolitan subscription will be created for the two services, costing between €53 and €65 annually.
AMBici will be managed by TMB (Barcelona Metropolitan Transport) and is co-financed with €7m from EU Next Generation funds. It represents a new impetus to enhance and facilitate sustainable mobility options in the metropolis of Barcelona, Antoni Poveda, vice-president of Mobility, Transport and Sustainability at the AMB, explained at Tuesday's presentation.
The two municipalities have designed a project without equivalent in Spain and probably in Europe
It is a cluster of the biomedical sector that will seek excellence in the field of health and scientific innovation
The initiative is of such magnitude that it was catalogued as a “strategic project of the country”
The biocluster will be financed through the Next Generation EU funds
as well as with the support of the Diputació de Barcelona (Next Diba allocations)
It also has a European subsidy in the amount of six million euros
This alliance boosts a healthcare ecosystem that already has an annual turnover of 2.275 billion euros
The project will favor the arrival of medical technology and pharmaceutical companies that will join the 54 existing ones
The “dormitory city” label that stigmatized emerging cities in Barcelona’s metropolitan area (such as L’Hospitalet or Esplugues de Llobregat) has become a thing of the past with this new biomedical initiative
The biomedical cluster project was created by the City Councils of L’Hospitalet and Esplugues together with the participation of powerful public and private institutions in the field of health
These include the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB)
the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL)
Also the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu (SJD) and the Ministries of Health
The initiative has two equally important branches
One revolves around the Biopol-Granvia project in L’Hospitalet and the other is centered at the SJD hospital in Esplugues
The goal is to “favor a new economy based on innovation and knowledge and to become a point of attraction for laboratories and new biomedical companies,” added the same sources
The biomedical cluster will integrate healthcare
research and innovation as part of the public health system strategy
The biocluster aims to improve the health and quality of life of citizens and
the efficiency and sustainability of the healthcare system
The goal is for the system to become “a true digital health model based on the use of data,” the Govern added
The biocluster will create approximately 50,000 jobs and is expected to have an annual turnover of around 7 billion euros

The Swiss and German multinationals have new plans for technology hubs near the Catalan capital
ACN | Barcelona
Two multinationals on Tuesday announced plans to expand their operations in the Baix Llobregat area of Catalonia, just outside Barcelona. While food giant Nestlé says it intends to expand its technology center in Esplugues de Llobregat, German industrial manufacturer Siemens says it will open a new digital innovation centre in Cornellà de Llobregat.
On Tuesday, Nestlé announced in a statement that it will close its tech division in Switzerland, laying off some 500 employees over the next 18 months, to “reorganize its IT activities.” Without giving any details, the firm said its plans include expanding the company’s technology center in Esplugues, where some 150 people currently work.
Meanwhile, Nestlé’s coffee-making wing, Nespresso, is looking into setting up operational centers in Spain and Portugal to boost the company’s e-commerce and distribution hubs, as well as opening a center of excellence for boutique operations in Italy. Yet the firm says its plans will not affect its Swiss production plants and that it remains “completely committed to its base in Switzerland.”
As for Siemens, its new digital innovation center in Cornellà will develop solutions for Mindsphere, the company’s cloud platform, in the energy sector. According to the German company, with the help of suppliers, software engineers and experts, this new ideas lab will carry out research into getting the most out of digital technology applied to energy and maximizing the efficiency of plants and factories. The center is due to open on June 7.
will take on new life and become a cultural facility open to the public
the City Council of Esplugues de Llobregat closed the purchase of this building for 2.9 million euros

It is built on the first floor perpendicular to Església street in Esplugues de Llobregat
as well as water reservoirs and a subway auditorium that seats 300 people
This auditorium is a 700 square meter space and is of great architectural interest because of its vaulted ceiling and because despite being very large
The building is forged of reinforced concrete and semicircular arches
It also includes some thirty sculptures that will become municipal property
The Espai Cobreró has hosted fashion shows of the 080 catwalk and achieved recognition when Woody Allen chose it as the painter’s studio for the film “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”
The sculptor Xavier Corberó designed it in 1968 with the intention of making it a habitable sculpture
in the midst of labyrinthine constructions and a forest with bronze and stone characters
He wanted to make it a place to live and work and a refuge for other artists
SHAKIRA and Gerard Pique’s split will no doubt see them carve up their estimated combined wealth of £300million which includes mansions and a private jet
The pair got together in 2011 although they first met the year before and with their vast fortune lived a luxury lifestyle
The Columbian singer, 45, one of the best-selling music artists of all time, met Gerard in 2010 after he featured in the video to her song Waka Waka, released for footie’s World Cup that year
Shakira and Pique shared a glitzy and glamorous life together jetting around the world
taking holidays on luxury yachts and generally living the high life
They split on July 4 this year and no reason has been given for the separation
It’s thought to have a customised interior which includes a bedroom with two beds, a living room and a dining room.
Reports say the pair rented out the plane when they weren’t using it to lower the maintenance costs.
Should it come to it, a judge may have to decide who gets to keep the jet or if it must be sold and the proceeds split between the two.
As they weren’t married any properties they bought before they were together will remain in their respective hands but it also depends whose name is on the property deeds
Shakira has a mansion in Miami valued at £11m while Pique has a three-storey property in the centre of Barcelona said to be worth £3.8m
In 2011, Shakira reportedly bought a share in a private island known as Bonds Cay in the Bahamas which covers 550 acres
The singer is said to have pooled together with Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters and Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz to buy the retreat for £12m
Those properties are expected to remain in their respect hands
Problems arise over the two properties they bought together
Then, in 2015, they acquired another house in Barcelona’s plush Pedralbes neighbourhood near Barca’s ground Camp Nou which they bought for around £4.7m
a swimming pool with a waterfall and a gym as well as a whole host of other amenities
the luxury mansion was targeted by burglars when the couple were away
Piqué's parents were sleeping upstairs when the home was raided
with the criminals getting away with expensive watches and jewellery
The couple are also said to have a holiday home in Cyprus which they bought in 2019
The six-bed villa is located in the luxury Cap St
which overlooks the Sea of Akamas near Paphos and reportedly comes with a home cinema
The exact price of the villa is not known put prices for property in the area are thought to start at £1.8m
Shakira and Pique had two sons together – Milan in 2013 and Sasha two years later
The pair are said to be split over custody of them with their respective legal teams readying their arguments and it looks likely it will be resolved in court, Marca reports
made a temporary agreement which is in place for the month of August
where the children will spend two weeks with their dad and two weeks with their mum
Pique is said to want the kids to stay with him in Barcelona and Shakira is keen for them to relocate to Miami with her
Shakira is also facing her own legal battle as she faces up to eight years in jail if found guilty of an alleged massive £12 million tax fraud
She was charged with defrauding the Spanish treasury out of millions over a three-year period between 2012 and 2014
Her PR firm Llorente y Cuenca said in a statement: "She believes in her innocence and has opted to leave the issue in the hands of the law."

and certifying the sustainability of buildings
the construction has already received the BREEAM certificate “Very Good”
assessing that during the process all environmental criteria have been followed

LAMINE YAMAL was already the youngest-ever player to appear at the Euros and tonight he became the competition’s youngest-ever goalscorer
Spain have competed in this tournament with a sense of bravery on the ball and adventure in attack
The willingness to continually start a 16-year-old, named Player of the Match after a sensational performance on Tuesday evening
France’s players may have boldly spoken out about the political situation in their country and helped inspire a left-wing triumph in the elections
the team’s on-pitch displays over the past few weeks have been decidedly conservative
Didier Deschamps’ unabashed defence-first approach has served him well overall at previous tournaments
but it contributed to their downfall this evening
Les Bleus exited the tournament with a whimper — once Spain secured a 2-1 lead through Dani Olmo’s deflected finish in the 25th minute
they scarcely looked like surrendering their advantage
as a French attack with the rich talent of Kylian Mbappe
Randal Kolo Muani as well as belatedly Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud looked seriously laboured throughout and registered just three shots on target during the 90 minutes
Yet one player unquestionably delivered on a night when most star attackers flattered to deceive
You can often measure a footballer’s greatness by his ability to stand up when the team are reeling
producing an unstoppable curling effort out of nothing
13 minutes after France had taken the lead against the run of play and threatened to double their advantage with their speedy and clinical counter-attack
young pacy wingers are often hugely unreliable and inconsistent
They are typically the first player to be substituted if the situation has gone awry and usually bear the brunt of the criticism if the team’s attack is flailing
Yet just as impressive as Yamal’s wonder goal was his overall contribution
He invariably did the right thing when in possession
whether it was playing a simple pass or trying to beat his man
The youngest player on the pitch shared Spain’s right wing with the oldest
38-year-old Jesus Navas seems to have been around forever and is old enough to be Yamal’s father
Navas’ career appeared to be winding down as he left Man City — that same summer
Yamal turned 10 years old and had just joined the Catalan giants three years earlier
having been born in Esplugues de Llobregat
a municipality of the Barcelona metropolitan area
the veteran rather than the youngster looked less at ease and more nervous on this big stage
Navas probably could have done better for the early French goal and was also booked for a rash challenge in the opening few minutes before eventually being substituted after failing to show the same level of maturity and composure as his 16-year-old teammate
and being part of a victory in the final against England or Netherlands the next day would be some way to belatedly celebrate
It’s been an astonishing rise in general for Yamal and plenty of others deserve enormous credit for being willing to trust him at such a young age
The graduate of the famous La Masia academy had only recently turned 15 and not signed his first professional contract when then-manager Xavi called him to train with the Barcelona first team
after coming on as a substitute against Real Betis
he became the fifth youngest player in La Liga’s history
he became the second youngest player to feature in the Champions League
awarded to the best young player in world football
he has 51 appearances and seven goals for Barcelona’s first team
Yamal scored in a 7-1 win over Georgia last September to become the youngest player and goalscorer for Spain
Barcelona regard his ceiling as so high that when the teenager signed a contract extension last October until 2026
You may also have seen the incredible photo doing the rounds on social media of Lionel Messi at 20 posing with a six-month-old Yamal
Yet even the Argentine superstar did not enjoy quite so rapid a rise to the top
Messi had to wait until the age of 17 before making his La Liga debut at Barca
while he was 34 when he won his first major trophy at international level
The Spain starlet has already comfortably eclipsed one of those age records and another could be about to follow
Yamal still has plenty to do before a genuine comparison can be made between the pair
It is easy even for superstars to go completely off the boil and look ill-equipped for top-level football
as another one-time prodigy Kylian Mbappe has shown at these Euros
But the outlook is promising — everything so far suggests Yamal has the attitude to sustain a lengthy career at the top level if serious injury can be avoided
French midfielder Adrien Rabiot had unwisely doubted the youngster
commenting: “Yamal will need to show more than what he’s done so far in the tournament if he wants to be in the final.”
an ecstatic and triumphant Yamal had two words for Rabiot as he stared into the camera: “Speak now!”
the product of a genius,” Spain coach Luis de la Fuente added afterwards
“He’s a player we have to take care of — I have to give him the advice to keep working with the same humility and keep his feet on the floor
“He would keep growing but this maturity and attitude at such a young age is like that of a more experienced player
“We are lucky he is Spanish and we can enjoy him for many more years.”

The transition from Bicing to metropolitan bikes in the Catalan capital is expected by 2023
This new service will be called “Ambici” and will be extended to 15 nearby towns with interchange stops within the city limits
passengers can switch from one type of bicycle to another
Ambici is different from Barcelona’s Bicing and will not be used to travel around the Catalan capital
Bicycles in the city may also not be taken to ride outside the city limits
will build seven stations where it will be possible to exchange the two-wheeled bikes of one system and the other in towns near the city
It will be something like someone who gets off the bus and takes the subway or the railroad
The aim is to integrate the two bike-sharing models
The future merger will take several years to consolidate
while the contracts are coming to an end: the Ambici contract for six more years and the Bicing contract
The connection stops will be located at three strategic points:
a metropolitan pass will be marketed with which cyclists will be able to use both services
The price of the integrated subscription will be between 53 and 65 euros
Bicing users who buy the integrated pass will save 20%
as the flat rate will go from 50 to 40 euros and the usage rate from 35 to 28 euros
Ambici’s new service will be launched in early 2023 with 2,600 bicycles
this service currently has more than 7,000 with 2,000 electric prototypes and around 135,000 subscribers
Ambici is estimated to cost the AMB about $40.5 million
7.2 million came from the European Next Generation anti-crisis funds
which were earmarked for the purchase of bicycles and stops
The first will be located in Sant Feliu de Llobregat
which will take place during the first quarter of 2023
the stops will be extended to 12 more locations: L’Hospitalet de Llobregat

Barcelona continues to grow as a hub for logistics centers, with news that French sporting goods chain Decathlon and German supermarket chain Lidl plan to open new facilities in the city's port and in the nearby Zona Franca industrial estate.
Decathlon has rented a 96,000 square meter space in the port, with the aim of setting up a logistics center for the south of Europe, while Lidl has contracted a 61,000 square meter space in Zona Franca, also for its distribution in southern Europe.
According to the 'Expansión' business publication, Decathlon estimates that the new center will handle 60,000 containers of goods every year, with the new center set to be up and running in 2021.
Currently occupying a 50,000 square meter facility in the same area, the new center will effectively double Decathlon's presence in Barcelona, making it the second largest of its kind behind US online retailer Amazon's 210,000 square meter space in the same area.
Meanwhile, according to the TV3 television channel, Lidl's new center will be at the entrance of Barcelona's container port, in the El Pratenc industrial estate, which is actually comes under the jurisdiction of the nearby municipality of El Prat.
Lidl was also in the news this week after it opened its largest shop in Spain, in the historic 'Tres Molinos' building, in Esplugues de Llobregat, which is next to Barcelona. The 1,800 square meter shop cost 15 million euros and will provide jobs for 45 people.
The Department of Climate Action of the Generalitat has issued a preventive alert for air pollution in the Special Protection Zone (SPA) of the Barcelona conurbation
due to high levels of particulate matter with a diameter of less than 10 microns (PM10)
This announcement comes in response to data collected from four measurement stations located in Mollet del Vallès
where the daily average of PM10 exceeded the critical threshold of 50 µg/m³
Food and Rural Agenda has identified the municipalities affected by this situation
the alert covers a large metropolitan area
This preventive warning represents the preliminary phase of a possible environmental episode and is activated with the purpose of reducing pollutant emissions
The Generalitat urges citizens to take immediate action to mitigate the environmental impact and protect public health
Among the recommendations issued is the preference for sustainable transportation
it is advisable to give priority to public transport
reduce travel by private vehicle (considering
the option of teleworking) and encourage carpooling
It also calls for the adoption of efficient driving practices
the choice of low-emission vehicles and the regulation of air conditioning in homes and establishments
The preventive measure responds to the persistence of unfavorable weather conditions
The 24-hour forecast suggests that pollution levels will remain elevated and may exceed the daily limit of 50 μg/m³
to the presence of an anticyclone in the south of the European continent
which has negatively affected the dispersion of atmospheric pollutants
It should be noted that this is not the first time that a preventive alert has been activated in the region
similar circumstances led to the implementation of measures to reduce emissions and mitigate the effects of air pollution
The Generalitat calls for citizen cooperation and stresses the importance of following the indications to protect air quality and the health of the population
It is recommended to be attentive to the updates provided by the local authorities and to abide by the established preventive measures until the environmental conditions improve significantly
The activation of this preventive alert underlines the need for collaboration between citizens and authorities to achieve a cleaner and healthier environment

Lamine Yamal returned to Spain to receive a king’s welcome
Yamal’s heroics at the Euro include a sensational out-of-the-box curling goal against France in the semi-final and an impressive four assists
Thanking the teenager for this elite display
a mammoth crowd of Spanish fans imitated his iconic 304 celebrations
We have seen the youngster pull off this signature celebration in jubilation after netting stellar goals
there is a hidden meaning for Yamal’s cool and classy gesture
Lamine Yamal is not the one to forget his roots
It is a subtle nod to the place in Barcelona that nurtured the young footballer in Yamal
Let’s break down the Spanish superstar’s celebration
Lamine Yamal crosses his two hands in jubilation by gesturing the number three on one hand and the number four on the other
He pulls off this gesture in a way that his thumb and index finger on one hand are brought together to form a zero
hence completing the number ‘304.’ Why is this number so important for the Spaniards
it is the last three digits of the postal code of Rocafonda in Barcelona- the neighborhood where Yamal grew up and started playing ball as a toddler
08304 is the postal code of Rocafonda in the Mataro region of Catalonia

Yamal was born in Esplugues de Llobregat. But his family quickly moved to Rocafonda. Yamal would spend his childhood and a large part of his early Barcelona Youth team days in Rocafonda. When he joined Barca’s La Masia as a seven-year-old, Yamal and his father used to take a 90-minute train ride to the academy from Rocafonda.
The Catalan town is home to a large immigrant population, which explains why Yamal’s Moroccan father and Equatoguinean mother settled there. Though poverty strikes the entire town, soccer is a religion for its people. One could see children playing the game on Rocafonda’s streets with netless goal frames installed in front of graffitied walls.
If you think Yamal is only loyal to Rocafonda, you’re wrong. He wears a bit of his parents’ countries in every other soccer game he plays.
What’s your perspective on:Is Lamine Yamal the next big thing in soccer, or just another flash in the pan?
Having inked a 10-year deal with Adidas this February, Lamine Yamal flaunts a custom-made F50 boot in every game. The interesting highlight of the shoe is that it bears the flags of Morocco-his father’s homeland and Equatorial Guinea-his mother’s country. Notably, both countries vied heavily to secure Yamal’s services for their national teams. However, Yamal, a former Spanish youth team player and a Barcelona prodigy, chose his country of birth while not forgetting his roots.

Besides these flags, Yamal’s F50s also bear the number 34, which again is a nod to Rocafonda’s 304, but without the zero. With Spain’s win against England in Berlin on Saturday, Lamine Yamal became the youngest player to win the UEFA Euros. He also unsurprisingly won the best young player award at the European Cup before returning home.
Now an exciting yet challenging season awaits Yamal at Barcelona. Hopefully, we could see more of those 304 celebrations.
