The sudden murder of the former mayor of Gandía is still on everyone's lips. | EDATV NEWS This Was Former Mayor of Gandía's Last Call Moments Before Being Murdered'My tire got punctured,' he commented before ending the conversation.21/02/2025 11:09:00h by Gonzalo Pinilla
The sudden murder of the former mayor of Gandía is still on everyone's lips
The businessman and former mayor of Gandía
was found lifeless on Wednesday night inside his vehicle
after being shot in the Valencian town of Xeresa
was found dead | Europa PressAccording to Vozpópuli
someone was following him and punctured at least one of the car's tires
they could attack him when he was most vulnerable
something that surprised the victim's close circle
It is important to highlight the alleged last call made by Torró
after visiting one of his businesses in Sueca
"I've got a flat tire," he commented before ending the conversation and stopping on the shoulder
there is no record of him contacting anyone else
"My tire is flat," he commented before ending the conversation
| Europa PressTorró's vehicle remained stopped on the shoulder of the A-38 in Xeresa
when his wife arrived at the scene joined by her sister
They had decided to go there after trying to contact him repeatedly for two or three hours without success
The geolocation of the businessman's mobile phone had guided them to the exact point where they found him
It was his wife who discovered his body next to the car
the body had a gunshot wound to the chest and signs of strangulation on the neck
both his family and his friends and former colleagues from the Valencian PP still do not understand what happened
no one noticed warning signs or unusual situations
the way the crime was carried out points to a calculated and coldly executed action
CD THADER – 2 CF GANDIA – 2
CD Thader Rojales entered this last home game of the season
Played on a glorious sun soaked Sunday morning
probably the lowest gate of the season had assembled inside Moi Gomez Stadium
elected to make a number of changes from the previous weeks narrow victory at Paterna
With regular Thader captain Lloyd out injured
the armband was given to the bearded midfielder Fran
with the diminutive David showing his worth
when his powerful shot from the edge of the box just missed the target
it was David who opened the scoring on 14 minutes
having received a glorious assist from fellow striker Tremino
Gandia keeper Aspas pulled off 2 great saves from firstly a Sergio header
he denied Adam what looked like a certain goal
as his Thader team mates completely dominated play
he needed to be alert to prevent Facundo from levelling the scores
Berni squandered a glorious chance to double the hosts advantage
his comical effort resulted in a throw in to the visitors
Gandia did eventually square proceedings on 40 mins
before perfectly chipping the ball into an empty net
Aspas pulled off a wordly save to deny him a goal
it was Javi´s turn to test Gandia´s keeper credentials
Completely against the run of play on 65 mins
with the ball somehow ending up in the back of the net
What happened next was farcical to say the least
David was quite blatently fouled inside the box on 69 mins
Gandia players and officials were quite rightly incensed that a Thader player had encroached in the box
but having consulted his nearside assistant
ref Alejandro Murphy allowed the goal to stand
Fran placed his kick the same side as before
there should have been 2 more penalties awarded
but ref Murphy chose to ignore strong appeals
before Watt was blatently pushed in the back when in Thader´s box
a 2-2 draw was probably a fair reflexion on the match
which mirrored the scoreline when the 2 teams last met at Gandia just before Xmas last year. On Saturday 10 May
Thader make the journey to play high flying Novelda
for the final game of the Community League season

Ivan Gandia-Rosa was playing basketball in front of small junior college crowds
he traveled the world representing his homeland of Puerto Rico in international tournaments
To travel the whole world just playing basketball is a blessing and playing against world-class teams around the world was a great experience for me,” Gandia-Rosa
the six foot one guard for UNF Men’s Basketball
Gandia-Rosa received the call about the national team late last season and was elated to contact UNF Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matthew Driscoll
once I first told him that they had called me
he was excited and ready for me to go,” Gandia-Rosa said
The senior from Caguas began his journey with the national team with tournaments in Argentina and the Pan American Games in Peru
“The Pan American Games was a great experience
Winning the silver medal is even better for us with the younger team that we had,” Gandia-Rosa said
After winning silver at the Pan American Games in Peru
Gandia-Rosa found out he made Puerto Rico’s national team for the FIBA World Cup in China
I found out that I’m on the list for the World Cup team so after Peru
I did a couple of practices and scrimmage games,” Gandia-Rosa said
Gandia-Rosa looked back on the opportunity where he was able to practice with Puerto Rico’s workout team while in China
“Being able to go to China and practice with their workout team was just amazing
it was just a wonderful experience for me,” Gandia-Rosa said

Gandia-Rosa was able to play against future NBA guard Jamal Murray
Gandia-Rosa had a strong finish to his junior season
finishing 22nd in the NCAA in assists with 192
When asked about the difference in competition between international basketball and collegiate
Gandia-Rosa mentioned the amount of experience his opponents had in the tournaments this summer
“The biggest difference is the physicality of the games
and have a lot of experience,” Gandia-Rosa said
With a summer of playing for Puerto Rico’s national team under his belt
Gandia-Rosa looks to use that experience in his senior season with UNF Men’s Basketball
and I got to make sure I do a good job of leading them and making sure everybody is on the same page,” Gandia-Rosa said
Driscoll noted how Gandia-Rosa’s experience this summer will be a major asset to the team
that aspect of leadership and learning from a non-basketball standpoint
you can’t replace it,” Coach Driscoll said
when UNF first recruited and signed Gandia-Rosa
he already mentioned that he wanted to represent Puerto Rico at the Olympics
“The one thing that was really really cool was that we were able to present that for him and that opportunity came full-circle for him,” Driscoll said
Metrics details
The new phase of study and revision of the Palaeolithic art of the Cova de les Meravelles
as well as the advances made in the field of 3D documentation in recent years
have motivated a new documentation campaign on the main panel full of tiny engraved motifs
The difficulties involved in acquiring and processing data executed using fine and thin engraving techniques indoors
have been solved through a multi-light photogrammetric survey
photographing the main panel surface with five lighting directions
and applying principal component analysis (PCA)
This procedure has allowed us to obtain a large corpus of two and three-dimensional data and to improve the documentation base produced 17 years ago after its discovery
the enhanced engraving results in the new documentation campaign
its most significant contributions to the complex archaeological survey
and the limits we have found along the procedure
The Meravelles parietal assemblage is currently being revised
as well as advances in documentation and image processing techniques
have motivated a new campaign of work at the site to obtain more precise documentation that will allow us to achieve the objectives of this new phase of the study: to obtain a visualisation tool that enables
for the research and interpretation of the site and
which facilitates the sharing of the results obtained
emphasising the value of the rock art as part of our cultural heritage
we present the results obtained in the areas of most interest and in which the visualisation of the engraved traces is diverse
The same procedure is being systematically applied to the analysis of the whole ensemble and is currently being carried out
Valencia) is located in the Serra de la Falconera at an altitude of 200 m and at a distance of 6 km in a straight line from the Cova del Parpalló
the Upper Palaeolithic occupation was clearly defined
The karst system develops over a long geological sequence characterised by the alternation of limestone and dolomite deposits that originated in the early Upper Cretaceous
The support on which the artistic manifestations are located is limestone; it is a surface where water action is constant
producing the formation of calcium carbonate crystals that have been deposited on the surface throughout the life of the karst
a stalagmitic crust covered most of the surface
revealing a few engraved lines and the identification of a few figurative motifs

Detail of the sector where the aurochs M-7 is located, affected by water action in August 2020
Overall picture of the main panel and indication of the sectors detailed in this work
A high-resolution single-lens reflex camera Canon 5DSR with a resolution of 8688 × 5792 pixels equipped with a Canon EOS EF 24 mm was used to get the imagery. Two sets of images were considered for the main panel (Fig. 3)
one close-range at 2 m able to yield a low-resolution GSD equal to 0.300 mm
and another close-range set at 0.5 m to deliver a high-resolution GSD of 0.050 mm
The high-resolution images will be used to document the tiny engravings with the help of raking light
The handle light was a Nebo Big Larry Pro (500 lm)
Image processing was undertaken with ENVI software
Agisoft Metashape software was used for 3D modelling and orthorectification
a 20 cm calibrated scale bar was used to scale the eventual 3D model and orthoimagery
The scale bar was moved across the panel to fix and control the scale of the main panel
The methodology followed from data acquisition to final deliverables is presented in Fig. 5.
Pipeline showing the multi-light close-range photogrammetric processing with the close-range images and merging onto the 3D model
Lighting directions from: a east; b north; c west; d south; e orthogonal
the data acquisition was on top of the scaffolding
some small camera movements between shots were compensated afterwards with a projective transformation to create multiband imagery with 15 bands (RGB per shot)
This process ended with a multiband image per sector from which principal components analysis (PCA) will be performed to extract significant radiometric content in an orthogonal space
minimising radiometric information overlap among imagery
linear stretching was performed on the PC1
PC2 and PC3 to enhance the visualisation of the engravings
a false colour image was generated with PC1 (red band)
The lighting conditions for data collection are essential
both to solve the problems derived from the nature of the support
characterised by its heterogeneity and irregular geometry
and to capture the finest engravings correctly
the method chosen for taking photographs using five different light orientations is really helpful because it covers the overall area with the minimum imaging dataset (north
west and orthogonal) to register shadows vs no shadows
and their subsequent processing by PCA is very useful to synthesise all the fine and shallow tracings
The direction of the light in five different positions allows us to obtain detailed documentation of each sector and to have a complete and uniform view of all the areas regardless of the shallowness and orientation at which the very fine incisions are located
It is also decisive for later treatments using PCA
which completes this process by providing us with all the information captured in the photographs in a unique image
To make the 3D model of the main panel and the final orthoimage mosaic
a state-of-the-art photogrammetric Structure-from-motion (SfM) survey was carried out
The purpose was to obtain a high-resolution point cloud
as a preliminary step to create the eventual 3D model and the final orthoimage mosaic in five layers
the visible one with the orthogonally illuminated images
and the false-colour PCA (PC3 for the red band
The documentation obtained from the data acquisition carried out on the main panel at Meravelles is presented below:
Photographs were taken with five light orientations at short distances from each sector into which the panel was divided (Fig. 6)
General photographs of the area where it was located
Multiband images, used for the PCA of each sector (Figs. 7 and 8)
3D model of the area where the panel was located
Six orthoimages (two visible bands + 4 PCA bands) (Figs. 10, 11 and 12).
Principal components analysis (PCA) for sector 2: a PC1; b PC2; c PC3; d false colour PCA (PC3, PC2, PC1)
Principal components analysis (PCA) for sector 19: a PC1; b PC2; c PC3; d false colour (PC3
The photographs with five light orientations are the base of the data collection and are the starting point from which the multiband image of each sector was generated
given the difficulties involved in observing and documenting thin and shallow engravings in a subterranean context
this strategy was very useful since it allowed us to multiply the points of view of the same sector
A PCA was carried out on the multiband image (15 bands)
the first three components have shown more significant information on each sector (> 95%) since
the noise generated in the image increased substantially
The aim of this process was to accentuate as much as possible the contrast between the engraved traces and the support and
to obtain a complementary corpus of data for the study of the superimpositions and the elaboration of the panel tracing
an enhancement was also carried out on PC1
different image processing tests were carried out using the ENVI software and finally
the best results were obtained by changing the distribution of the values by linearly stretching the data in the input histogram of the image
The advantage of processing the detail images by sectors through PCA with respect to the original colour images consisted in the contrast generated between the engravings and the support when working in greyscale
That is why it is highly recommended to deal with two
the visible and false colour PCA simultaneously
but the requirement of long exposure times invalidated the technique as the scaffolding was somewhat unstable
They also tried high-end structured-light scanning but also failed to track the tiny motifs
but still not comparable with the current ones using a 50.6 MP instead of a 12 MP camera
The flashlight has been only used for macro photography of small areas to identify superimpositions
serving as a complement to all the documentation generated
But the usage of a flashlight for this multi-light photogrammetric survey was avoided
because there is a need to have complete control of the scene under the lighting conditions (under an irregular but continuous surface) before taking the shots
once the ideal directional lighting conditions are set on the scene
And this point cannot be achieved with flashlight
The new documentation campaign provided a broad documental base that allows us to update and improve the one carried out in 2005
By combining photogrammetric and two-dimensional digital image processing techniques
we will be able to produce a detailed reproduction of the Meravelles parietal assemblage and obtain a complete corpus of data for the integral analysis of the panel
we have been able to cover the needs of study at the documentary level
analysis of the stratigraphy of the parietal engravings
their degree of conservation over time and
The detailed photographs taken with five different orientations of light are an essential tool for analysing the assemblage during the elaboration of tracings
as well as in the study of the parietal stratigraphy
since they provide a high level of detail and a detailed view of the traces and superimpositions
a Tracing of sector 2 made from the combined false colour image; b caprid M-13; c horse M-14
Sector 2: a True-colour orthoimage; b False colour PCA orthoimage
Sector 17: a True-colour orthoimage; b False colour PCA orthoimage
Sector 19: a True-colour orthoimage; b False colour PCA orthoimage
where the legibility could be more complicated
regardless of the complexity and more outstanding work required due to the geometric characteristics
acquisition method and complexity of the main panel
both the visible true-colour and the false colour PCA orthoimage mosaics
will be imported in uncompress file formats as two overlapping layers
A vectorisation software will be used to trace each motif on different layers
all the 2D tracings will be integrated into the 3D model through the oriented images interchanging the image textures
the availability of a solid 3D model is mandatory to achieve proper continuity of the engravings on the overall 2D orthoimage mosaic
in the field of divulgation and cultural heritage
our aim is to try to take advantage of the museum possibilities offered by the new documentation obtained for the diffusion of Meravelles Palaeolithic art
there is the possibility of exhibiting the results using panels and audiovisual resources to allow society to discover this part of our heritage and raise awareness of its value and fragility
thus promoting its function as a cultural and educational tool
This part of the work is particularly interesting as the site is currently not open to the public and the access track
This work has shown how multi-light photogrammetry with different instruments (cameras
lighting and software) continues to be a valid method to achieve metric documentation for the study of thin and shallow parietal engravings in caves under complex indoor scenarios (non-flat surface
that requires mandatory usage of scaffolding)
it has allowed us to improve the metric results obtained in previous works carried out in the same cave
We have obtained a corpus of two- and three-dimensional data that amply responds to the objectives proposed at the beginning of this work
The new visualisation tools obtained have been capable of showing the most complex areas of the panel favourably
facilitating their reading and subsequent study during the laboratory work
The most significant contribution in this new recording season resides in the 3D model of the support
which has substantially improved three fundamental aspects: colour
generating a model with a much higher resolution than that obtained in previous years
with more measuring points and a larger surface area
thanks to the improvements produced in the multi-light photogrammetric documentation field
All this has provided us with realistic reproduction of this small area of the cave and
a tool that facilitates its study in the laboratory
The production of a larger number of orthoimages with different image processing techniques has increased the documentation base available in 2005
when only one greyscale orthoimage emphasising PC3 was generated
This allows us to work with a very extensive documentation base that can be adapted according to the needs of each phase of the study: the elaboration of the tracing
their relationship with the support and the detailed study of the composition of the panel
and especially the false colour PCA orthoimage
has helped us to improve the previous tracing
opening new perspectives in the study of the parietal art of Meravelles and has allowed us to define new motifs that are currently in the process of identification
especially in the correct reading of the parietal stratigraphy in small areas of the panel
have been solved by using flashlight to obtain macro photography in these zones
The methodology used in the new phase of the study
from data collection to its subsequent treatment integrating new image processing methods not used at the site until now
has been adapted to the specific conditions of the main panel at Meravelles
it could open up new perspectives for the study in other areas with parietal art recently discovered in the cave
where the execution technique is identical to the main panel
as well as in other sites where the documentation of fine and shallow engravings involves similar limits as those found in our study
The datasets used and/or analysed during the current work are given either in the text or in the cited references

The Port of Gandia is set to become Europe’s first energy self-sufficient port after the installation of the solar energy plant
the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has revealed
Valenciaport has awarded a contract for the installation and maintenance of the solar energy plant to compatriot firm Electromur
is expected to make Gandia the first European port to be energy self-sufficient
The Port of Gandía will feature a photovoltaic energy plant for self-consumption
whose solar energy collectors will be located on the roof of shed 4
Electrical energy storage equipment will also be installed
The construction of the solar power plant is expected to be finished within eight months and the maintenance period encompasses 52 months
This project is financed by the European Union’s funds and the Spanish Government
The value of the project is €1.7 million ($1.71 million)
Valenciaport plans to inject €130 million in sustainability actions to meet the strategic objective of 2030 zero emissions
which will reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote energy security
the port authority joined the club of twelve international ports committed to decarbonisation and emission reduction projects
In addition to this photovoltaic plant at the Port of Gandia, Valenciaport plans to install two other solar power plants at the Port of Valencia
one of them in the Valencia Terminal Europa
and the other between the Príncipe Felipe dock and the Club Náutico de València
Both projects are expected to enable the port to produce 14% of the electrical energy it needs
there are other initiatives such as the installation of wind turbines at the Port of Valencia
the construction of two electrical substations to connect the engines of ships docking at the port to the electricity grid
and the use of hydrogen in the port operations
Valenciaport is the first in Europe to install a green hydrogen plant to reduce the environmental impact of its terminal machinery operations
The station is mobile and will provide the necessary fuel
in the appropriate conditions and quantities to guarantee the continuous working cycles of the equipment forming part of the H2Ports project

I had lunch at a simple restaurant called Paco Gandía in the hilly wine country of Alicante province
certainly changing my perspective on the possibilities of rice and the meaning of “paella.”
I didn’t get there by accident. I came for lunch with members of the Gil family of Gil Family Estates—best known for their powerful Cabernet-Monastrell blends from their boutique El Nido winery in Murcia province to the south
“Rice is my favorite meal,” said Miguel Gil
who compares all paella (both the Valencian word for “pan” and the name for the rice preparations from around the area) to that of his late mother
Paco Gandía, in the modest town of Pinoso (pop. about 7,500), attracts winemakers from the region and food lovers from across Spain. It was once declared the best paella in the world by Spain’s most famous avant-garde chef, Ferran Adrià of the now-defunct El Bulli. The restaurant serves one humble paella, made with rabbit and snails over a hearth fire fueled by year-old vine cuttings.
This, according to some purists, resembles the original recipe from the Valencia countryside of the 19th century. That was before it migrated to the coast and seafood was added—and before it became bastardized into the modern surf‘n’turf jumble you can find most anywhere in the world today.
“No! No! No!” Gandía said when I mention paella with chicken and shellfish. “That would be like mixing a good wine with soda water.”
Gandía and his wife, Josefa Navarro, who begins preparing her rabbit broth at 5 a.m. every day, have been running the restaurant as a duo for 33 years.
“It is a dish that is poor and elaborate at the same time,” said Gandía, leading me back to the kitchen where Josefa stood guard over a pair of large round pans licked by flames from bushels of vine cuttings. The contents of the pans boiled and sizzled as the air filled with the smell of slightly sweet vine smoke, which flavors the rice.
“If you make the flame too high, you burn the paella,” Gandía explains. “If you put the pan too low, you kill the flames.”
After appetizers like scrambled eggs with blood sausage and liver with onions, Gandía brought out the paella in a large, hot, round pan he set in the middle of the table. We all dug into the thin layer of yellow saffron rice, dotted with snails and pieces of rabbit.
A new one on me, we used paella forks—sturdy, short-tined, half-spoon utensils made for both scooping paella and scraping the crisped layer of rice, called “soccarat,” from the bottom of the pan.
Gandía demonstrated the technique of vigorous paella scraping, then puts a helping of the crust on my plate.
It was. The crunch of caramelized soccarat, the rustic flavors of rabbit and snails, and the perfume of saffron and vine smoke melded into a pure pastoral feast that paired perfectly with concentrated reds—the more Monastrell the better.
I later checked in with Valencia area culinary star Quique Dacosta, who has perfected a dish of soccarat without the paella—sort of like making bread crust without the loaf—at his signature, 3 Michelin–star, avant-garde restaurant in the Alicante city of Dénia.
At 46, Dacosta has thought a lot about rice: He has written a book on contemporary rice, has four restaurants in Valencia, and is opening a rice restaurant called Arros (rice in Valencian dialect) QD in London this coming May.
“Soccarat is a defect of the paella that has developed into a virtue,” said Dacosta philosophically, before he went into the chemistry of rice, fat, broth and fire.
In the Valencia region, which is famous for its short-grained rices brought there by Arabs in the 8th century and grown for centuries in the Albufera wetlands, “Everyone has a different version of paella—everywhere you go.”
The varied recipes came from a time of scarcity when people used what was at hand to flavor their rice, Dacosta explained. From province to province and town to town, there are debates not only about which cultivar of rice to use and what the essential ingredients are (fresh beans were also a traditional component of the dish) but even about how and when the broth is prepared and when the rice is added.
“Paella is so deep a tradition here that, if you cook the beans in it more or less, someone will argue with you,” he said. “Every day there is a debate on paella—it is a matter of state.”
I don’t know about you, my friends, but rice preparation is my kind of debate.
