A new five-star luxury hotel is set to be built in Guía de Isora
with completion expected by the end of 2026
named Villa de Erques will cover an expansive area of over 100,000 square metres
and will have a total capacity of 890 beds in 384 rooms with terraces
including 29 suites with swimming pools and three villas
the development will include nine swimming pools
the Environmental Commission of the Guía de Isora City Council issued a report confirming that the project would not require a full environmental assessment
the development "does not have significant environmental impacts," provided that the necessary protective
The hotel will be located in the area known as El Tagorito
and adjacent to two protected areas within the Natura 2000 network: the ZEC Barranco de Erques and the ZEC Franja Marina Teno-Rasca
Despite its proximity to these sensitive areas
the environmental study concluded that the project would not significantly harm the environment
The project aims to offer a "complementary service" to guests
incorporating educational programs and multifunctional spaces that emphasise the value of the surrounding environment
all with the goal of fostering environmental awareness and appreciation
The plot designated for the hotel already includes some infrastructure built between 1996 and 1999
Some of these existing features overlap with the protected area
but they will be maintained for public and pedestrian use in the new development
The Villa de Erques project has been in the works for decades
The Partial Plan was originally approved by the Canary Islands' Urban Planning and Environment Commission in 1994
with urbanisation efforts starting in 1996
the project stalled in 2012 when the original developer withdrew their application for a hotel construction licence
leading to a modification of the Guía de Isora General Urban Plan (PGO) to accommodate a luxury tourist complex and recreational facility
Out of the 110,985 square metres of land allocated for the project
around 2,015 square metres lie within the protected Barranco de Erques Special Conservation Area (ZEC)
the project has been given the green light
promising a luxurious new addition to the island’s tourism offerings while maintaining environmental safeguards

here are the top Tenerife stays for fine dining
Tenerife has come a long way in the past two decades, shaking off its gaudy stereotypes of a cheap and somewhat tacky fly-and-flop destination, in favour of better-quality experiences, up-market hotels and resorts
and an appreciation for cultural and historical activities and sights
One marked difference has been the emergence of luxury hotels and resorts across the island
palatial resorts and opulent boutique hotels
to calm and sophisticated retreats and adults-only escapes
While most of the luxury hotels in Tenerife are located in the south-west area of Costa Adeje, there are sumptuous accommodation offerings springing up across the island. Only a four-hour flight from most UK airports, Tenerife is a year-round destination thanks for its near constant temperate climate and sunny weather
and ideal for those seeking the finer things from their getaway
Ask anyone on the island about luxury hotels and they’ll probably all come up with the same name: Bahia del Duque
That’s because this family-run hotel group has been at the forefront of the high-end Tenerife hospitality scene for decades
Their now iconic Bahia del Duque resort is like a small Canarian-style village with different levels and areas – don’t worry there are chauffeur-driven golf buggies to get you from place to place

A 50-year-old Dutch woman died while hiking in Guia de Isora in Tenerife on Sunday, the Spanish police said
Her death is believed to be related to the heat
The island saw maximums of around 35 degrees Celsius over the weekend
the emergency services received a report at around 6:00 p.m
that a hiker had fainted and was unconscious in the area of Vera de Erques
A helicopter transferred her to the area where an ambulance and medical team were waiting
The medical team verified that the woman was in cardiorespiratory arrest
The island has been experiencing high temperatures over the past few days, with maximums climbing to around 35 degrees. Aemet
has a code orange warning for heat in place for the area on Monday
A pioneering project called Underwater Gardens is set to bring together tourism and marine science through diving and research in the south of Tenerife. Initially proposed for Barcelona, the project has now found a new home in Guía de Isora, where it will feature a complex with access to artificial reefs along the coast.
The initiative, spearheaded by a Catalan company, aims to blend environmental regeneration with tourism by creating a space that promotes both ecological preservation and public engagement through activities like diving.
In February 2022, the Tenerife Cabildo, declared the project of insular interest, moving it forward for further development. This year, the project was delegated to the President of the Cabildo for expedited processing, alongside three other strategic projects.
The Underwater Gardens project includes two main components: Garden Gate on land and Sea Garden underwater. The Sea Garden will host "regenerative underwater gardens" and a docking area, while the Garden Gate on land will house leisure and educational facilities, including gardens, restaurants, parking, and a photovoltaic pergola.
The project’s draft emphasises its focus on the "environmental regeneration of coastal and marine areas, and the knowledge, study, monitoring, research, and protection of biodiversity and ecosystems." It also addresses the impacts of and adaptation to climate change, combining these goals with public outreach through entertainment, leisure, culture, and maritime sports like diving.
The land-based portion of the complex will include a Dive Hub, where visitors can take exclusive courses at the diving school and enjoy various pools and activities tailored to their skill levels. Linked to the Dive Hub is the Biolab, a "scientific laboratory and marine restoration research centre."
The Biolab will host research projects and studies on marine biodiversity management, knowledge generation, and its dissemination. It will also focus on developing marine gardening technologies, with outdoor nurseries and a Mesocosmos to support the Sea Garden.
The complex will be located in Playa Punta Blanca, within the municipality of Guía de Isora. The selected site was previously agricultural land, primarily used for banana farming, but is now abandoned. The area currently contains several derelict buildings.
The project is currently undergoing an environmental assessment, involving both the Tenerife Cabildo and the Coastal Authority, due to its location within the public maritime-terrestrial domain.
The largest of the Canary Islands is the perfect place for winter sun, but how relaxing can it be when you have a brood in tow? Zoe Griffin took her family to find out
With year-round sunshine, slim chances of rainfall and crystal-clear azure waters buzzing with a rich variety of marine life, Tenerife has a lot to offer tourists seeking a place to relax and recharge
That includes frazzled parents, desperate for some sun but not sure how their little darlings will cope on a long-haul flight. The largest of the Canary Islands is four hours flying time from London – with the promise of sun at the other end making up for constant snack requests
a thousand trips to the bathroom and repeated pleadings to stop kicking the chairs in front
Each day he’d happily gone off to the hotel’s baby club
giving me three hours to lie on a lounger and sleep
and my triathlete-loving husband plenty of time to explore the island and its rugged volcanoes on his bike

Now with children aged seven, six, three and one, childcare was a key concern. I spent hours researching hotels that had not just a kids club but a baby club too (some hotels only offer childcare for children over the age of four)
I also anticipated that swimming with four little ones would be a challenge
so my goal was to find a hotel with a pool shallow enough for the toddlers to splash around in
and perhaps another pool where the older ones could have fun diving underwater
Having had babies back to back for seven years
my husband and I are continuously sleep-deprived so Tenerife’s party resorts of Los Cristianos and Las Americas aren’t exactly appealing
So it was to Costa Adeje and Guia de Isora
These are quieter areas with less crowded beaches opening up to calm seas and natural rock pools
They’re also dotted with restaurants serving up traditional Canarian cuisine and freshly caught seafood restaurants – rather than the English Breakfasts and Irish pubs that you might find in other areas of Tenerife

The mayor of Guía de Isora in Tenerife
announced yesterday (Thursday) that the project for the new Maguenes Resort
a luxury hotel complex that will be the first in the Canary Islands commissioned from the famous architect Norman Foster
has been approved by the planning department of the City Council
The Maguenes project is characterized by its innovative concept in sustainable design and its integration into the environment
designed by the London-based Foster & Partners architectural studio
reflecting the avant-garde and luxury spirit of the project
Compañía de las Islas Occidentales
the company that owns the renowned Hotel Bahía del Duque
Grupo CIO has more than 20 years experience in the luxury tourism sector of the Canary Islands and wanted to create yet another innovative resort that perfectly combines the endemic nature of the area with luxury stays and excellent service
the Maguenes Resort will offer three exclusive products: a luxury boutique hotel
and the Maguenes Residences private villas
Thanks to the experience of The Tais in health and wellness
the resort will also feature a complete and elegant wellness & spa area
as well as a 500,000m2 golf course designed by legendary golfer Gary Player
Sustainable development is one of the project’s priorities
which is why it will be integrated into the existing landscape
with organic terraces and the slopes of the land being used to maximize the views and differentiate the areas of the Resort
The mayor underlined the importance that tourist infrastructures of this level are for the municipality
she said “it follows the line of the type of luxury tourism that has always been pursued from Guia de Isora.”
The Tenerife Cabildo lasted actions and reports have confirmed that all access roads to the mountain areas
which includes the TF-21 through Vilaflor and the TF-28 through Chio in Guia de Isora both in the south of Tenerife due to the forest fire
TITSA have also suspended bus routes through the area including the 348 that runs from the Parador de Las Cañadas del Teide to the municipality of Puerto de la Cruz
as well as the 342 from Costa Adeje which will only now go as far as Vilaflor
which will only reach the Casa Forestal stop and then return to the municipalities of La Orotava and Puerto de La Cruz
Evacuations are also happening right now from the Parador in the National Park
The aim is to ensure that there are no tourists in the area this afternoon and evening as a precautionary measure against a possible unfavourable evolution of the fire
and to facilitate the transit of emergency resources through the area
The control and extinguishing works of the firefighters
and seaplanes is also evolving very slowly
still due to the unfavourable weather conditions
and areas that had been watered and extinguished have reignited as they are drying out so quickly again with the heat
and the wind is spreading flames and burning embers all over the place
there are 16 air means working on the extinction work
who this afternoon were joined by a new detachment of the Military
electric company Endesa has clarified on its social media that the fire is not threatening either of the two power plants in Tenerife
and that electricity generation is as normal
and that up to now there has been no need to cut off the supply to any of the lines of distribution
Fernando Clavijo has recommended that people residing in the vicinity of the affected areas stock up on torches
only obtain information through official channels
Holidaymakers looking for exclusive luxury

are just added incentives to book these villas that are already standing as the new jewel in the crown at the Abama resort

amazing views over the golf course to the Atlantic Ocean
All the 5* star services offered at Abama are available to guests of these this exclusive collection
including the Melvin restaurant by Martín Berasategui and an exquisite gourmet shop for food lovers
since there will be many who do not want to leave these small oases
and a wellness centre invite you to take care of yourself inside and out in this corner of Tenerife
which also offers the athletic types the possibility of practicing their swing at Abama Golf or their backhand at Abama Tennis
which gives its name to the new luxury villas
A taxi sign in the Canary Islands has gone viral on Twitter due to its unusual installation at the main taxi rank in the town of Playa San Juan in Guia de Isora in the south of Tenerife
It’s the sort of thing you get on a meme being passed around on WhatsApp or Facebook but on this occasion it's genuine and on one of our islands
it was too big for the canopy roof of the taxi rank
so the installers came up with a ‘genius’ solution
Instead of lengthening or shortening the pole
they decided to cut part of the roof so that the sign would fit as apparently there is a minimum height they have to be
The image is doing the rounds on social media with many people believing it is fake
Many users have shown their disbelief and have described the scene as "surreal" and others have questioned the lack of judgment and common sense when making installing: "My god
The image has been shared hundreds of times and has become one of the most commented on images on Twitter in the Canary Islands
this situation highlights the importance of planning and logic when making decisions on infrastructure and installing road signs
With the rise in temperatures due to a mini heatwave in Tenerife

Lots of parties and events in Tenerife in June 2018 - starting with Corpus Christi celebrations and continuing with the Midsummer Night Bonfires
Many of the towns in Tenerife will have something planned for this religious celebration. The carpets are being laid out the night before the Corpus Christi day and the most impressive street carpets can be seen in the north of the island in La Laguna and La Orotava (7th of June)
Guia de Isora and Adeje (on the 2nd and 3rd of June)
In Plaza de Santa Catalina there will be a country ball - Baile de Magos with several music bands from the municipality
Romeria en honor de San Isidro Labrador (San Isidore the Labourer)
At 12:00 will take place the religious ceremony and then the pilgrimage that starts at Santa Catalina Church and goes towards La Alhondiga
there will be a popular fiesta in the square in front of the church of Santa Catalina
On this special and magical night several towns in Tenerife will have bonfires on the beach and you can attend to either one of this events if you want to take part in a local tradition: Puerto de la Cruz, Guia de Isora, El Medano
but the ones mentioned have the best atmosphere
On the 1st of June there will be a concert by Sharif Fernandez in Tenerife in the town of La Laguna
The artist is back to the island to promote his latest album and tickets are available on www.tomaticket.es
The Repsol Guide has recently published the Top 3 Bakeries in Spain according to their standards
and among them was a bakery in Guia de Isora
100% Pan y Pastelería is run by Alexis Garcia
who is the creative mind behind all the phenomenal cakes served in his shop
He was trained in the art of french pastry making and has worked alongside big names in the industry
Alexis Garcia admits that he wants his cakes to reflect as best as possible the spirit of the Canary Islands and so he uses local ingredients and inspiration while designing his products
The Repsol Guide is in Spain the equivalent of the Michelin Guide and so it's a great honor to be featured among the best restaurants and bakeries in the country
The Top 3 Bakeries of the moment in Spain also included a place in Palma de Mallorca called Belen Parra and a cake shop in Redovan (Alicante) called Crujiente.
If you are in Tenerife you should definitely head out to Playa San Juan to try the sweets and cakes prepared by Alexis Garcia
which can be declared the best in Tenerife and in all the Canary Islands
since it's ranked in Top 3 in all of Spain
Personal recommendation of 100% Pan y Pasteleria
In 2019 we went to the shop and we tried the ice cream
We even came back a second time to Playa San Juan just to have the ice cream again
although we weren't staying in town and we had to do a detour especially for this
If you're a Spain addict like us and you have a sweet tooth also
you may be interested to know where to find the best churros in Tenerife
we admit that we haven't tried all the churros available on the island
so these recommendations are based on our subjective opinion
If you're staying in the Los Cristianos area
then this is the best and most accessible place to get a good portion of churros and hot chocolate
just a few minutes away from the sea promenade and they have an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy your dessert
The place looks typically Spanish and the prices are quite reasonable - at the start of 2018
we paid around 6 Euros for 2 portions of churros and 2 hot chocolates
Address: Carretera General de Guia de Isora (next to the cemetery) 38680
We realized that each time we had churros from them we were so busy eating
that we forgot to take at least one picture
Although the name might fool ya' - Churreria Alcala, this place is not actually based in Alcala
we first tried their churros at Fiesta del Son (Fiesta Blanca Cubana) in Alcala
where they had a food truck for this event
For only 2 Euros you get a huge portion of the most amazing churros
fluffy on the inside and a bit crunchy on the outside
We didn't even need hot chocolate in order to enjoy them
just a sprinkle of sugar was enough to enhance their flavor
Churreria Alcala usually participates with their truck in various events in Tenerife
so you might get the luck to enjoy them elsewhere
You'll see people queuing and grabbing a number while waiting for their turn - that's how good they are
If you really want to try their churros, you can also travel to Guia de Isora on weekend - as they are usually open on Saturday, Sundays and other festive days from 5 PM to 9 PM. Or maybe message them on their Facebook page to ask
just to be sure before you make the trip up there
you will see people buying entire bags on churros and taking them home for the entire family
