The Pinterest Creator Fund is an initiative designed to support and elevate underrepresented creators on the platform by providing financial and educational resources

engaging pins and participate in the program’s training sessions
but being part of the Creator Fund can significantly enhance your ability to monetize your Pinterest presence through increased visibility and improved content strategies

These partnerships can significantly boost your income by leveraging your influence and reach on the platform
you need to build a substantial and engaged following
Brands are more likely to partner with influencers with a proven track record of high engagement and quality content

but creating high-quality content that meets the brand's standards requires time and effort

managing inventory and handling customer service
depending on your products' popularity and your audience's size
One of the most popular ways creators monetize with Pinterest is through their blogs

Selling your physical products on Pinterest allows you to reach a vast audience by showcasing your merchandise directly on the platform
This approach can drive traffic to your online store and increase sales
you must set up a Pinterest business account and integrate your online store using platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce
Pinterest offers a streamlined process to upload your product catalog
enabling users to shop directly from your pins
No direct payment to Pinterest is required
but there may be costs associated with your e-commerce platform
You can expect to spend time setting up your shop
especially if you consistently create high-quality pins and engage with your audience
Making money on Pinterest involves strategies like affiliate marketing
You can turn your Pinterest presence into a profitable venture with the right approach and consistent effort
Utilize the platform's tools and resources to maximize your earning potential and engage your audience effectively
There are many ways to gain a following on Pinterest
visually appealing pins that resonate with your target audience
Use relevant keywords in your pin descriptions to improve search visibility
so post regularly and maintain an active presence
It’s also recommended that you work in advance to plan your pins
you may create those pins in September or October so that they can be indexed correctly in Pinterest by the time you want potential customers or followers to find them
While having followers can enhance your credibility and expand your reach
you don’t necessarily need a large following to monetize on Pinterest
such as affiliate marketing and selling products
Focus on creating valuable content that encourages interaction and builds a loyal community
Pinterest is a visual discovery platform where users can find and save ideas for various interests
Users can create boards to organize their pins and follow other users with similar interests
helping users discover new content based on their preferences and searches
Many people think of Pinterest as similar to a search engine versus a social media platform because of its layout and use cases
Creating a Pinterest account is free and straightforward
Visit Pinterest’s website or download the app
you can start creating boards and pinning content
and explore the platform’s various features to discover new ideas and inspiration
Pinterest generates revenue primarily through advertising
allowing businesses to reach a wider audience and drive traffic to their websites

IAM to launch vine removal and forest protection in Guia Hill section by section in phases
Guia Hill Municipal Park is a place with a high occurrence of brown root rot disease
It has been affected by typhoons in recent years
which caused the imbalance of forest regulation and self-restoration and the excessive growth of invasive vines
To protect the health of the forest area in Guia Hill
the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will launch vine removal and forest protection work in Guia Hill Municipal Park from March onwards
during which the public are advised to follow the on-site instructions and avoid approaching the work area
IAM will also set up a popular science education and demonstration area in Guia Hill to display the alien invasive vines that were removed during the forest clearing work in Guia Hill and introduce information about forest protection
Guia Hill looks green but is actually tangled by vines
The forest area in Guia Hill Municipal Park looks green on the surface
a large part of the area has actually been covered by alien invasive vine plants including Hypserpa nitida
These plants have deprived the existing forest trees of adequate sunlight for photosynthesis
and the tree saplings under the trees cannot grow normally
the forest area has continuously deteriorated and could not naturally generate
and it has gradually lost it ecological function
To protect the health and rich ecological diversity of the forest area in Guia Hill Municipal Park
IAM will launch vine removal and forest protection work from 18 March onwards
The main task in the first phase is removal of vines
as well as wilted trees and dangerous trees in deterioration
increase the space for tree growth and improve tree health
The area for tree care includes the forest area on both sides of the trail with 33 bends (Estrada do Engenheiro Trigo) on Guia Hill and the Guia Hill Fitness Trail
The work will be carried out in phases in sections of 50 metres each
and the vine removal and tree protection work is expected to be completed in mid-June
parts of the mentioned area will be enclosed according to the actual conditions during the forest protection work period
IAM appeals to the public for their compliance and understanding
IAM also reminds the public that if they find any abnormalities in trees
they can call the IAM Civic Service Hotline 2833 7676 or report the case through “IAM Connect”
Establishment of popular science education area and organisation of public participation in vine removal work
To deepen the public’s understanding of vine removal and forest protection work
IAM set up a popular science education and demonstration area in mid-February in Guia Hill Trail
Some vines removed from the forest area in Guia Hill were put on display
Vine removal and forest protection work was introduced to the public in a more comprehensive manner through pictures
so as to let them understand the potential hazards of excessive growth of vines on the ecological environment
teachers and students of schools and the public have been organised to participate in vine removal work to deepen their understanding of protection of green and ecological resources
members of the environment and greening task force of the Consultative Committee on Municipal Affairs of IAM were invited to carry out on-site inspection of forest protection work in Guia Hill
They provided opinions on the optimisation of the work safety and explanation of vine removal and forest protection work
Dušan Borković claimed victory in a rain-delayed final FIA TCR World Tour race of the season on the streets of Macau
as fifth place was enough to ensure Norbert Michelisz clinched back-to-back drivers’ titles
The start of the race was delayed by around two hours due to heavy rain
with the FIA GT World Cup race brought forward in the schedule as the track conditions improved
When the Guia race eventually took to the track the circuit was still wet
several competitors opted to start on slick tyres
Esteban Guerrieri and Marco Butti from fourth
TCR China’s Andy Yan started on the reverse-grid pole with Hyundai team-mate Martin Cao
but he was quickly passed by Cao into Lisboa on the first lap of racing
BRC Racing’s Néstor Girolami quickly yielded to World Tour title chasing team-mate Michelisz
but the latter lacked the pace to keep up with Borković on slick rubber in fourth
With Guerrieri struggling on his slick tyres in the early stages
lap four saw Mikel Azcona get by into seventh to latch on to team-mates Michelisz and Girolami
with the latter allowing Azcona into sixth by the end of the lap
Yan fell behind both Ma Qing Hua and Borković on the fifth lap
with Borković passing the Cyan Racing driver in front for second into the final corner
quickly fell behind the TCR World Tour regulars to eighth as he didn’t put up a fight with those battling in a different ranking
Borković took just two corners to then move into the race lead
and in the time it took Ma to also get by at the last corner of the lap
Borković had built up a four-second advantage
Guerrieri’s slick tyres were coming into form
and on the seventh tour he passed four cars
following him through to make it a GOAT Racing 1-2-3 at the front
TCR Asia’s Max Hart stopped on the run up to Mandarin corner with damage to his Hyundai after sliding into the barrier at Reservoir corner
prompting a late-race two-lap safety car intervention
That allowed for just one lap of racing at the end
with Guerrieri not taking the fight to Borković
who claimed his first win in the series and first on the Circuito da Guia
Ma held on to take fourth as the leading Lynk & Co
the result being sufficient to give the Hungarian back-to-back titles as his only rival
struggled to make progress in the reverse-grid race
Azcona and Girolami finished behind team-mate Michelisz as his rear guar in sixth and seventh respectively
with Björk – who would have needed to finish ahead of Michelisz and out-score him by five points to win the title – taking eighth
never having really put up much of a challenge to those in front
Martin Xie was the leading TCR China competitor in ninth
with Yann Ehrlacher completing the top ten
despite the Cyan Racing driver sliding into the barriers at Lisboa four laps from the finish
giving the Chinese driver the TCR China title
ahead of Cyan Racing’s Santiago Urrutia in 12th
who came from the very back of the grid on slick tyres
Volcano Motorsport’s John Filippi was 13th
whilst his team-mate Rob Huff ended the race in the pits after just one lap of racing with damage to the front of his Audi
had been running directly behind his rival until the final lap of the race
when the Teamwork driver clipped the barriers in the first sector and failed to take the chequered flag as a result
Michelisz won the TCR World Tour title with 323 points
Is the BTCC's hybrid energy system working well to improve the racing

will stand between 24.9 metres and 25.78 metres above sea level
This section will be located in a zone where the height limit is set between 5 and 10.3 metres
The legislator believes the bridge’s height would exceed the legal limit by up to five times
Lam was referring to the construction plan unveiled by the Public Works Bureau in July 2023
the Public Works Bureau had announced that the bridge would be built at an elevation of 25.8 metres,” he wrote
the Cultural Affairs Bureau also admitted that a section of the flyover would fall within the legally restricted height range (Chief Executive Order No
affecting an area that accounts for approximately 0.34 per cent of the total restricted height zone,” he added
cultural authorities argued that the overpass should not be classified as a “building” and therefore dismissed concerns about its potential visual impact on the city’s historic centre
Under regulations introduced in April 2008
buildings within 2.8 square kilometres of the lighthouse are subject to height restrictions
each with different height limits — ranging between 52.5 metres and five metres
In a race marked by an incident in the opening lap
polesitter Thed Björk secured victory in the Macau Guia Race – FIA TCR World Tour Race 1 at the Circuito da Guia
narrowing the gap to just five points behind series leader Norbert Michelisz
Michelisz will start ahead in tomorrow’s race due to the reversed grid format
Mikel Azcona and Yann Ehrlacher are still mathematically in contention for the championship
whereas Esteban Guerrieri’s title hopes have been dashed
Lynk & Co has clinched the teams’ championship
The race was marred by chaos at the start when Guerrieri spun at the San Francisco corner
effectively ending his championship aspirations right there
The Argentinian GOAT Racing Honda driver incident led to the suspension of the race
Lynk & Co Cyan Racing has clinched the teams’ championship
Chinese driver Martin Cao (Hyundai) finished eighth overall
which was sufficient to win him the TCR China Touring Car Championship race
This result has now extended his lead in the championship points standings to 10 points over Jason Zhang (Lynk & Co)

Cryptococcosis accounts for substantial morbidity and mortality globally
WHO listed Cryptococcus neoformans as a top fungal priority pathogen.1 Cryptococcosis often involves the CNS or the lungs
but disseminated disease can affect any organ
Despite the knowledge gained and improvements in clinical outcomes generated by multiple interventional trials (2-7) done primarily in low-income settings with insufficient resources
mortality from cryptococcal meningoencephalitis is high
The highest burden of disease is in low-income and middle-income countries
where HIV and AIDS are the dominant risk factor
although new non-HIV immunocompromised risk groups and putatively immunocompetent individuals are increasingly reported in high-income settings with sufficient resources

Use of genomic sequencing is increasing at a pace that requires technological solutions to effectively meet the needs of a growing patient population
to enhance the delivery of genomic results and related clinical information to patients and families
GUÍA development occurred in five overlapping phases: formative research
Development was informed by formative qualitative research involving parents (N = 22) whose children underwent genomic testing
Participants enrolled in the NYCKidSeq pilot study (N = 18) completed structured feedback interviews post–result disclosure using GUÍA
and community stakeholders provided their perspectives on GUÍA’s design to ensure technical
NYCKidSeq participants responded positively to the use of GUÍA to deliver their children’s results
All participants (N = 10) with previous experience with genetic testing felt GUÍA improved result disclosure
and 17 (94%) participants said the content was clear
GUÍA communicates complex genomic information in an understandable and personalized manner
Initial piloting demonstrated GUÍA’s utility for families enrolled in the NYCKidSeq pilot study
Findings from the NYCKidSeq clinical trial will provide insight into GUÍA’s effectiveness in communicating results among diverse
genetic counselors (GCs) are challenged to scale services to meet the needs of a wide array of providers
Outcomes from these studies will help to inform best practices for delivering genomic medicine services
GUÍA development occurred in five overlapping phases over a 16-month period
Development phases included a formative qualitative study of parents (N = 22) whose child had undergone genomic testing (phase 1)
content development guided by an expert working group (phase 2)
recurring feedback from stakeholders and community members (N = 11) (phase 3)
and development and testing of the web application (phase 5)
of 22 index children who had undergone exome sequencing
or microarray clinical genetic testing within the previous 12 months to participate in an in-depth interview
Participants were recruited at two major health systems in New York City: Mount Sinai Health System and Montefiore Medical Center
We used a stratified purposive sampling approach to recruit a diverse group of participants: five Black/African American (AA)
and two who self-reported as more than one race or ethnicity (MR)
We also stratified the sample to ensure representation of different testing results: ten negative
Interviews were administered in English or Spanish
Parents received transportation costs and a $50 gift card for participating
The Expert Working Group (EWG) was formed with transdisciplinary expertise in the development of educational and medical genetics content
The EWG led the development of the overall design of GUÍA and the development of the content
and final versions of visuals and text throughout the development process
the EWG and a UI designer collaborated to produce a final set of wireframes (page schematics) and visual designs
which were used as the basis for the personalized result templates
A bilingual version of each wireframe was generated that displayed both English (small font) and Spanish text (large font)
The only text not translated to Spanish was the navigation button
as this was not a priority for the research study
We aimed to ensure that the Spanish text was understandable to patients who speak different dialects of Spanish
the translation team included individuals representing five Spanish dialects: Spanish
Discrepancies in the translated text were discussed and resolved
and UI designer developed a specification for GUÍA development
and established the display logic and the data flow
The back-end database contains a web form through which the GC inputs patient specific information to populate the patient-facing front-end application
The database includes a library of template text including over 5,000 variables and approximately 50 illustrations that are displayed based on patient-specific results
A team of software engineers built the application over a 3-month period
followed by a 4-week user acceptance testing period
during which the EWG performed extensive UI testing to evaluate UI interactions before the platform went live
GCs built a participant’s case in GUÍA by inputting case details
Case details were input as both structured and free text
Structured text can be displayed in both English and Spanish
Spanish free text was generated using Google Translate
and Spanish-speaking staff reviewed the translations for accuracy
GCs used GUÍA via an iPad during the in-person results disclosure session
Families did not have access to GUÍA outside of the counseling session
Families were provided with a PDF printout of the full GUÍA content in addition to the laboratory report
Feedback was solicited from four GCs regarding their experience using GUÍA during the pilot phase
structured feedback guide to explore parent-participants’ reactions to GUÍA
The guide contained 14 questions designed to capture general and specific reactions to GUÍA content and design elements
Research coordinators interviewed parents in English or Spanish directly following disclosure of their child’s genomic results using GUÍA
Feedback interviews were audio-recorded and parent-participants were provided with a $40 gift card
A separate research coordinator reviewed the audio recordings and extracted structured and narrative details of the parent-participants’ responses
These responses were reviewed for themes relating to the GUÍA interface
The formative study comprised 22 interviews with parents of children who had received genomic results within the previous 12 months, sampling for diversity in both child race/ethnicity and type of genomic result. Seven core themes were identified, which are listed in Table 1 with participant quotes exemplifying each theme
Parents’ primary concern was improving health outcomes for their child
parents were more interested in understanding how genetic results affected their child’s care than understanding technical details
We therefore designed GUÍA to prominently display follow-up care recommendations on the Next Steps page
Parents expressed confusion about the labels of genetic test results
negative results were sometimes described as “normal” and were confused with the child’s symptoms
GUÍA clearly defines the result category (positive
negative) on both the Learn about Genome Sequencing page and the Result Summary page
Another theme identified was that parents who received uncertain results adapted to the uncertainty when the provider explained that genomic medicine is a developing science and knowledge of the genetic cause of disease will increase over time
We included language addressing this in GUÍA
drawing complex concepts and showing illustrations to parents were appreciated
Parents expressed the desire to take home drawings made by a provider to revisit with family members
illustrations are integrated throughout the application
The EWG first identified discrete components of a typical pediatric genetic counseling result disclosure session, as shown in the schema in Supplementary Fig. 1
GUÍA addresses the following components: genetic education
primary (related to the primary indication for testing) and secondary (unrelated to the primary indication for testing) results disclosure
Contracting and psychosocial counseling are addressed through the interpersonal interaction between the counselor and the patient/family
We designed GUÍA to have a user-friendly interface with a visual design that is meant to make information communicated during the result disclosure easier to understand
GUÍA enables GCs to guide patients through the distinct components of a traditional result disclosure session while catering to patients’ diverse learning styles
Using GUÍA can be a counselor- or patient-driven experience and its modular design permits users to control the order in which information is accessed
the user can follow a proposed linear flow by using the navigation arrows at the bottom of each page
or they can navigate to different pages of the application from the Home page or the navigation panel
The user can toggle between Spanish/English or English only text by clicking the language button
Illustrations accompanied by plain language text are incorporated throughout the application to convey key concepts
and demonstrate aspects specific to the patient’s condition
Images show the GUÍA Home page displayed in English only (a)
the Result Summary page for a positive result displayed in Spanish/English (b)
and the Family page for a positive result displayed in Spanish/English (c)
Eighteen NYCKidSeq pilot phase parent-participants completed feedback interviews. All 18 were female; mean age was 44 years (range 28–56 years). Two (11%) were AA, 10 (56%) were H/L, 5 (28%) were EA, and 1 (6%) was MA (Table 2)
Six (33%) interviews were conducted in Spanish
Six (33%) parent-participants’ children received positive genetic results
GUÍA was used by both the parent-participant and counselor to guide the delivery of information
parent-participants were asked which component they would like to focus on next
none of the sessions were reported as parent-driven
as all parent-participants when given the option to explore GUÍA on their own deferred to the GC to walk them through the tool
In the feedback interview, parent-participants’ general reactions to GUÍA were overwhelmingly positive (Table 3)
parent-participants felt that GUÍA made receiving information about the result manageable
and they appreciated being able to read along as the counselor discussed the results
Spanish-speaking parent-participants valued reading text in their preferred language
All parent-participants (N = 10) who had previous experience with genetic testing agreed that using GUÍA improved result disclosure
Seventeen (94%) parent-participants said the content was clear and all parent-participants stated that the amount of information contained in GUÍA was the right amount
Parent-participants appreciated that they could control the flow and amount of information provided to them
Seventeen (94%) parent-participants felt that the user interface was easy to navigate
One parent-participant suggested including a “back” button on every page to better enable the user to navigate between pages of the application
While the majority of parent-participants felt that the number of illustrations included in GUÍA was the right amount and that the illustrations helped them understand complex genetic concepts (15 [83%]
one parent-participant stated that including additional illustrations would be helpful for individuals with limited understanding of genetics
GCs report spending approximately 15 minutes inputting data for each case
When asked to describe their experience using GUÍA compared with traditional counseling tools (e.g.
GCs highlighted the advantage of having information displayed in both Spanish and English when counseling a Spanish-speaking family using a telephone interpreter
They also expressed that GUÍA provided GCs the ability to personalize patients’ results
saved time in developing patient educational material
and made it easier to communicate results with other providers
Limitations of GUÍA were noted as being restricted to GS tests
children could disrupt the session by their interest in the iPad
patients/families do not have access to an online version of the tool
and GUÍA does not support annotation on pages
likely due to the amount of education typically occurring during the initial appointment
and are not designed to improve patient understanding of their genetic results
Findings from this preliminary evaluation suggest that GUÍA may be well positioned to support the growth of applied GS in that it facilitated result disclosure and was favorably reviewed by participants and GCs alike
The pilot evaluation of GUÍA described here was carried out in a small
which might limit the generalizability of the findings
Since the cohort consisted of participants in an ongoing study
their reflections on GUÍA may have been influenced by pretest counseling
familiarity with the genetic testing process
and repeated interactions with study staff
This study demonstrates the benefits of the development of technological solutions for communicating genomic information by medical professionals; however
this nonstandard software development environment imposes pragmatic limitations on feature development
GUÍA is only available in English and Spanish
with limited utility to families with a different primary language
where over 34% of citizens speak a different language in their home
To realize the full benefit of genomic medicine
patients and families must understand their genomic results and make informed decisions utilizing this information
Genomic information must be rendered accessible to all individuals regardless of health literacy and English language fluency
GUÍA was developed by a multidisciplinary group of stakeholders as a bilingual communication tool to support a large and varied population beginning with the diverse NYCKidSeq participants
Preliminary evidence suggests that GUÍA will be well-received and valued by patients

dozens of blue and white balloons rose into the Brooklyn night from outside the emergency entrance to Kings County Hospital
One bunch was caught on the overhang above the ambulance bay
but somebody freed it with an extended IV pole
These balloons also rose moonward in tribute to Maria Guia Cabillon
5-foot-tall head nurse with an outsized voice who had been known to all as Mama Guia
Applause and cheers went up from the health-care workers who were gathered in her memory
three emergency response buses and a number of police vehicles assembled outside the entrance
the whole city had filled with these same sirens as the virus killed thousands
Guia had lost her own life in the battle to save whomever they could
And this tribute made clear that her spirit lives on with them as the fight continues
“We’re going to need her strength and her tenacity.”
“Our personal angel who will always be there looking over us.”
Mama Guia had been the night head nurse at Kings County’s emergency room for decades and her strengths were those of all great leaders
She had wide-ranging knowledge and experience
from fellow nurses to doctors to techs to clerks
She knew how each one worked and how they all worked together
She always placed the interests of others ahead of her own
She never forgot the primary mission to help and heal
And she had repeatedly demonstrated courage and cool long before the virus came
She had never hesitated to jump in when a patient suddenly went from unruly to crazed
she’s in the mix,” nurse Shane DeGracia told The Daily Beast
“She’s able to calm the most violent and psychotic patients
Her magic met its biggest challenge when COVID-19 struck the city
The emergency room filled beyond capacity with people who were deathly ill with an unknown and unnervingly unpredictable disease for which there was no effective treatment
“It was something we never experienced before
something she never experienced before,” De Gracia recalled
“She has a way of keeping the staff level-headed during a crisis
throughout stressful times,” DeGracia said
we don't have much to worry about really.”
We’re going to need her strength and her tenacity.”— Dr
Kings County Hospital CenterNobody imagined that the virus would fell their indomitable Mama Guia
Guia seemed to possess the invincibility of great purpose
She had started out with what might have seemed to some to be a grander ambition and had left her native Iloilo City
but they didn’t have the money and her aunt said
‘Why don’t you take up nursing?’” her daughter
Fatima was not yet 2 when her mother departed for America
She returned to Fatima and her two older daughters only once a year
why did she have to leave us?” Fatima recalled
“She said we’re going to see each other next year
I didn’t understand what next year meant.”
Calling from New York was expensive in the days before cell phones
“We had a lot of quick calls,” Fatima recalled
April was 3 months old when Guia brought her back to the Philippines
All four girls would follow their mother into nursing
“We grew up with not enough money,” Fatima said
Mama Guia’s daughters followed her into nursing
Guia’s annual summer visits allowed her to attend graduations
but that meant she missed the holiday season
“She’s never home for Christmas or New Year,” Fatima said
Fatima did not spend the holidays with her mother until she was 21 and had also immigrated to New York as a nurse
“There’s always a big celebration there.”
The emergency room was one of the busiest in the city and could be especially wild during the 8 p.m
And it was very clear who was running things
‘I can’t believe she’s holding down the emergency room by herself,” Fatima remembered
Fatima understood that the people who called her mom Mama Guia were as dear to her as if they were her kids
Her family there included down-on-their-luck alcoholics who were regular night visitors
“You’re here again,” Guia would say to them
“You can’t leave drunk people in the street.”
Fatima said of her mother’s approach to nursing
Fatima understood that at the core of it was the same generosity of spirit her mother showed off-duty
“She would always think about other people first,” Fatima said
“She would put others first wherever she goes
Fatima went to work in the emergency room at another Brooklyn hospital
“It’s been a dream of mine to be like her,” Faitma said
Fatima proved to be very much her mother's daughter as COVID-19 suddenly began filling the hospital
“It was tough for everyone to see patients die left and right.”
She joined the city’s other health care workers in fighting to save whatever lives they could while risking their own
Guia was marshaling the good fight at her beloved Kings County
There came a Tuesday night when she told DeGracia
‘I should have called out today,’” DeGracia recalled
“She was not someone who would usually call out even if she had the sniffles of whatever
Guia was clearly still not feeling well when she returned Wednesday night
“But she sucked it up and did her work,” DeGracia said
Guia finished her shift and returned to the apartment she shared with Fatima and April
who grew up in the Philippines but was back in New York
studying for her boards to become the latest registered nurse in the family
I said maybe she had the coronavirus,’’ Fatima recalled
“But they never tested her because her X-rays were clear.”
there was no Guia in the emergency room as scheduled
We were trying to figure out who was going to give us our assignments
“We knew this lady wasn’t feeling well,” DeGracia said
We really didn’t think it would be severe.”
word reached the emergency room that Guia had been hospitalized
Guia had been admitted for observation to New York Community Hospital
She waged a personal fight against the virus
She was transferred to Maimonides Hospital Fatima figures she chose that over Kings County so her “kids” there would not be worried
Guia was adamant that she did not want to be intubated
“She knew the odds once you were on a ventilator were low
She spoke to Nguyen-Phuc through an oxygen mask
I’m going to figure it out,’” Nguyen-Phuc recalled
who spoke to The Daily Beast with Fatima’s permission
had met Guia when also working at New York Community
The doctor knew that even someone as determined as this legendary head nurse could reach a limit
“I had a lot of concerns she was getting tired and might not be able to make it through,” Nguyen-Phuc recalled
“There’s only so much you can do on strength of will alone
She had already been doing it for three weeks
Nguyen-Phuc also knew that COVID-19 could take a sudden turn for the irretrievable worst
I didn't want to risk her crashing and dying in front of me,” Nguyen-Phuc later said
The doctor advised Guia that if they were going to have to intubate
they should do it in the most controlled way possible
“She acknowledged that it seemed inevitable,” Nguyen-Phuc remembered
“She looked at me and she looked at the nurse and said
Nguyen-Phuc and the nurse most definitely did not screw up
Her daughters were able to talk to her on speaker phone as she lay unconscious
She died on April 26 despite everybody’s best efforts
“Thank you for trusting me to take care of you, Guia,” Nguyen-Phuc wrote afterwards in a private GoFundMe appeal for Guia’s family
Seeing your ferocity and tenacity break through the layers of oxygen masks as you asked pointed questions about your own intubation and medical course gave me glimpses of the outspoken
headstrong charge nurse you were ...I know you fought this wicked disease for over a month; I know you never gave up
I will carry the memory of your spirit (hopefully not your ghost!) with me for all time.”
Among the others who will carry Guia’s spirit are the people at the emergency room at Kings County Hospital
Fatima reports that staffers are as heartbroken as might be expected when you lose your mother
the 5-foot giant with the outsized voice is still with them
“I tell them that this is how she would want us to continue,” DeGracia said
“She would probably have been standing right behind us
a few minutes after Guia would have begun an 8 p.m
the people of the emergency room paused for a memorial
followed by the bunch that had been briefly snagged and then freed
Applause and cheers were joined by sirens of the emergency vehicles that would then resume answering calls
The people in scrubs began to file back inside and somebody said on a video of the event that she could hear the outsized voice of the 5-foot giant they called Mama Guia

A Pedestrian Rebellion: How the Turia River Park Transformed Valencia
The ceremony was attended by hundreds of people and political authorities
La rebel.lió dels vianants: El Jardí del Riu Túria al centre d’una nova València
is a book about what makes a city human-centered
and future relationship of the Turia River and the city of Valencia
A Pedestrian Rebellion explains that Valencia
was shaped by the Turia River from its very origins
It traces how the city and the river have had a difficult coexistence
is a moody prone-to-flooding river that needed to be domesticated
Once the Turia was imprisoned in new and safe cement riverbed
the old riverbed that crosses the city east-west surrounding the old fluvial island (today’s historical downtown)
Environmental and city activists fought for an urban park instead
And once Spanish dictator Francisco Franco died in 1975
the Turia River Park is one of the most impressive urban parks in the world
It’s a serpent of 10 kilometers that welcomes children
Thousands of daily users have turned this poorly-designed and improvised park into a magical space where users are encouraged to enjoy and join in the ongoing human theater free from advertisement
The Turia River Park also needs to be finished
The Turia River Park does not end in the Mediterranean Sea because the massive Valencia Port gets in its way
A Pedestrian Rebellion also engages in the political debates over what kind of city should Valencia be in the next decades
One that promotes green spaces and human-powered transportation or one that favors cars and freeways

Minecraft for Windows 10, aka Bedrock edition, has been upgraded with cutting-edge path-traced ray tracing, enabling gamers and world builders to craft incredible new sights and immersive environments. To take full advantage of the new possibilities ray tracing introduced in the free 1.16.200 update for Minecraft for Windows 10
physically-based textures have also been introduced
To further enhance the visual experience of RTX
creators can also define their own settings for the fog
Ray Tracing On (Same PBR Enabled Textures)
we’ll walk you through the steps of creating your own Minecraft PBR textures
or upgrading your existing textures and texture packs
so that your ray-traced Minecraft worlds take full advantage of everything that Bedrock Minecraft brings to the table
we’ll demonstrate how you can create your own high-resolution textures for worlds made of lifelike high definition blocks
easier workflow using the premium Substance Painter application
we’ll cover the system for setting up your own definition for the custom fog to polish off your custom PBR-enhanced resource pack
Most texture files in vanilla Minecraft (Bedrock) only use 2 maps: base color and opacity
The base color map is stored in the RGB channels of the texture
This is the texture map that most people think of when talking about Minecraft textures
Some textures also have an additional opacity map that is either stored in the alpha channel (for .TGA texture files) or stored implicitly (for .PNG texture files)
you’ll want to use .TGA files with alpha channels for opacity maps
to help describe the realistic material surface that is being represented by the texture:
This is how the various PBR texture maps relate to objects in the game:
6 PBR Texture Maps >packed into> 3 Texture Files (.PNG) >defined by a> Texture Set >for each> Block/Item/Object
each of the 6 PBR maps get packed into the channels of 3 texture files
Packing the maps reduces the overall file size and number of files of the new texture set
The texture set must be defined by a JSON file
for a PBR version of the “gold_ore” block:
The fourteen, free Minecraft with RTX ray tracing worlds include creator-made PBR resource packs that you can check out
These upgrade textures to follow the Physically Based Rendering pipeline laid out below
and are optimized for maximum performance and detail
NVIDIA has also released a new resource pack that’s compatible with the latest version of Minecraft with RTX, and has been updated February 2nd, 2021. Download here
then double click the file and it should automatically be installed for use in-game
download the file and double click the .mcpack file
and it should automatically add the resource pack to your world and enable you to play with RTX ON
but they should not be activated at the same time
you will see a resource pack fall back resulting in other textures down-rezzing
you will be able to experiment with both high-resolution textures (1024x1024) and low-resolution textures (8x8 or 16x16) with PBR capabilities
Further, to demonstrate the possibilities of the new Minecraft PBR textures, we’ve worked with Razzleberries to create the RTX Expo Museum world
a large Smithsonian-esque museum showcasing every enhancement
and improvement offered by Minecraft with RTX
you’ll see how PBR textures work in concert with ray tracing to enable a level of detail and fidelity that was previously impossible to achieve with traditional rasterization and effects
you can quickly and easily test them in this world by overwriting the existing textures
accelerating your workflow and iteration speed
these stunning showcases will provide you with inspiration for your own PBR textures and ray-traced world
you will need a photo-editing/digital painting application
You will also need a quick plaintext file editor to write your texture set JSON
the default text editor for your operating system will work
but Sublime Text is a good alternative as it supports syntax coloring
This guide will cover the Photoshop workflow specifically
but the concepts should transfer to other digital painting applications
Pay special care to the colors that get stored under the alpha channel as on blocks like Glass
the colors will still apply even if masked by full transparency
and save the image as a 32-bits/pixel .TGA file to ensure consistency and avoid an unexpected surprise from PNG image exporters
Note: In the initial release of Minecraft with RTX
the client will use the same textures for both RTX enabled and disabled
This means that an opacity value that is tuned for RTX enabled might look too transparent when RTX is disabled. To help balance this out
the game will only use the upper half of the range of the texture’s alpha channel (0.5 - 1) when RTX is enabled
but it will map this range to the full range of opacity in the game so no functionality is lost
the full range of the alpha channel will be mapped to the full range opacity in the game
If the texture’s alpha channel value = 0 (black)
texture opacity = 0 (fully transparent)
texture opacity = 0 (fully transparent)
If the texture’s alpha channel value = 0.5 (middle gray)
texture opacity = 0 (still fully transparent)
If the texture’s alpha channel value = 0.75 (light gray)
If the texture’s alpha channel value = 1 (white)
To begin your PBR enhancements for any texture, you must start it off with a JSON file to define the PBR settings. For further info and documentation, head to the official Minecraft.net page
take the name of the original texture without the extension and add it to the beginning of .texture_set.json
Then the JSON file goes into the same folder
Here is an example JSON file following the texture set schema
also demonstrating the correct value usage for each definition:
{ "format_version": "1.16.100"
"minecraft:texture_set": { "color": [118
"metalness_emissive_roughness": “#0008FF”
"normal": "an_example_normal" } }
Further details on each of these texture set attributes are explained in depth in the following
The PBR system doesn’t require you to use all of the PBR maps for every texture set
you will get the best looking results if you do
the block has uniform roughness on all of its surfaces
but it is using a metallic map to control which pixels are metallic (white)
The metallic pixels look more like gold while the non-metallic pixels look more like shiny
the block has uniform metalness on all of its surfaces
but it is using a roughness map to control which pixels are very rough (white)
and some pixels that are somewhere in between (gray)
less rough pixels look more like shiny blue gemstones while the rough pixels look more like rough gray rock
Height map - alternative to a normal map for giving pixels height or depth
Height maps have some limitations and should only be used for pixelated texture sets like the 16x16 pixel vanilla Minecraft textures
consider using a normal map instead of a heightmap
let’s start our PBR texture set for the Gold Ore block before we start texturing our example
with the gold_ore.texture_set.json texture set JSON:
"format_version": "1.16.100"
"minecraft:texture_set": {
"color": "gold_ore"
"metalness_emissive_roughness": "gold_ore_mer"
"normal": "gold_ore_normal"
with the gold_ore.texture_set.json texture set JSON: { "format_version": "1.16.200"
"minecraft:texture_set": { "color": "gold_ore"
"normal": "gold_ore_normal" } }
Let’s create custom base color and opacity maps:
Open a vanilla Minecraft texture in the app as a starting point
Create a new document at the texture resolution that you want
(16x16 pixels for most vanilla Minecraft textures) Also
72 pixels/inch is recommended for the pixel density
Create working layers for the base color and opacity map (if needed)
Paint what you want and make any edits in these layers
multiple layers have been painted to edit the base color map (more gold!)
Once you have the base color and opacity map layers looking the way you want
it’s a good idea to save your Photoshop document using the name of the object’s texture set
we need to save out a texture file that the game can use
transparent pixels in the opacity map must also be painted black in the base color map (e.g
there are exceptions where the transparent pixels must also be painted white in the base color map in order to appear correct in the game (e.g
for non-opaque objects only) - Duplicate your opacity map layers
merge the duplicates together to create a single layer
for non-opaque objects only) - In the Channels tab
and paste (Ctrl+V) your merged opacity map into this channel
Click on the small gray box to the left of the RGB channel to make the RGB channels visible again
You now have your base color map being stored in the RGB channels and the opacity map stored in the alpha channel
for non-opaque objects only) - Go back to the Layers tab and hide any of your opacity map layers
Only your base color map layers should be showing
Use the Save As command to save a .PNG texture file that can be used by the game
Note on opacity: You will save out a 32-bits/pixel .TGA file at this step if your object is intended to be non-opaque and uses an opacity map in the alpha channel
Note on naming: File naming is important at this step
This .PNG should have the same name as the game object that you are modifying
You have successfully created the first of 3 texture files for a complete PBR texture set
you’ll want to create the second PBR texture file combining the metallic
(Optional) Open a vanilla Minecraft texture in Photoshop or a similar app as a starting point
Create a new document at the same texture resolution as your first texture file (base color and opacity map)
(16x16 pixels for most vanilla Minecraft textures) Again
Note: You only need to paint these maps using grayscale values
multiple layers have been painted to create the desired roughness map result
Make sure to place layers of each map type into layer groups
Right-click on the Metallic layer group and select “Blending Options”
Uncheck the green (G) and blue (B) channels:
Click “OK” to close the Blending Options window for the Metallic layer group
Right-click on the Emissive layer group and select “Blending Options”
Uncheck the red (R) and blue (B) channels:
Click “OK” to close the Blending Options window for the Emissive layer group
Right-click on the Roughness layer group and select “Blending Options”
Uncheck the red (R) and green (G) channels:
Click “OK” to close the Blending Options window for the Roughness layer group
and roughness map layers looking the way you want
it’s a good idea to save your Photoshop document using the name of the object’s texture set with the addition of the *_mer suffix
This .PNG file should have the same name as the game object that you are modifying with the addition of the *_mer suffix
You have successfully created the second of 3 texture files for a complete PBR texture set
Normal maps are usually created using specialized tools
There are many professional software options as well as some great
Example of a brick wall PBR texture set (left) and its normal map (right):
Instead of having 3 Photoshop .PSD files for each of the 3 PBR texture files
you could alternatively use a single .PSD file and take advantage of Photoshop’s Generate → Image Assets function in the File menu
As long as you create a layer group for each PBR texture file and name it with the correct file name and file type (.png)
they will save themselves automatically after each change (after you initially save the .PSD file)
More information can be found here
Note: Since this function cannot output .TGA files
you won’t be able to use it to save a texture file with an alpha channel like those needed for non-opaque texture sets
Using PBR maps like metalness and roughness along with ray tracing
you can create highly reflective materials like shiny plastics
All of these will have high quality reflections
for perfectly reflective objects like mirrors
you’ll want to configure your PBR maps to enable a perfect mirror. If you use a solid black roughness map (0.0) and a solid white (1.0) metalness map
the game will interpret your material as a perfect mirror
This means that the ray tracing code can take some shorter paths during its calculations since it knows that the material will fully reflect the environment without any additional details to take into account.
If you have access to the Substance Painter app
you can create higher resolution PBR texture sets in a much more intuitive manner
This software lets you see all of the maps of your PBR texture set displayed in real-time on mesh geometry
This allows you to tune your texture maps as you work without having to launch the game
Launch the application and select New Project from the File menu
Template = Unreal Engine 4 - This will automatically set a variety of application and viewer settings
Feel free to try other options or make your own template
File → Select - This is where you select what mesh you would like to display and paint your textures on
using a 1 meter by 1 meter cube mesh with just 6 faces (no subdivisions) will give you an exact preview of how your textures will look when mapped onto a block in the game
Document Resolution - This is the texture resolution that you’re targeting
Note: This setting can be changed later non-destructively at any time
it’s recommended to work at 1024 - you’ll get lots of detail in your textures with minimal pixelation
the app will run nice and fast on most PC setups
and your HD textures should look sharp in the game
If you’ve only ever worked with textures in vanilla Minecraft
you’ll notice that you can’t select 16 pixels by 16 pixels here for your resolution (the lowest is 128)
you can always author and export textures at 128x128 (or larger) and scale them down later in an image-editing application like Photoshop
Normal Map Format = DirectX (leave as default)
Compute Tangent Space Per Fragment = True (leave as default)
Add - (Optional) Here you can choose to import any supporting textures that you already have completed
If replacing a vanilla Minecraft texture with an HD version
it can be helpful to import the vanilla texture here for use as a reference
Note: This import step can also be performed later at any time
the vanilla “iron_block” texture file is going to be imported when the new project is created to be used as a reference
The application should open this new project that you’re creating and look something like this:
It’s a good idea to add the emissive map to your texture set list at this point
Even if your texture set isn’t going to use emissivity
it will default to black (0.0) and won’t hurt anything
Note: You can also add an opacity map to your texture set list in the same way if you’re planning on creating a non-fully opaque texture set
add your texture reference to a new fill layer in the Base Color slot
You’ll find your imported reference texture on the Shelf under the Project heading
Layers are automatically set to bilinear filtering when created
which can make pixelated textures like vanilla Minecraft textures look blurry
leave your layer filtering on the default setting of bilinear HQ
it’s also a good idea to set this reference layer to have full roughness (1.0)
This will make sure that the reference texture is displayed in Painter as close to the vanilla game as it can be
Note: If you didn’t import reference textures or other resources when you created the project
you can do so at any time using the Import Resources button on the Shelf
It’s recommended to name your Painter project after the game object whose texture set you are replacing
this project file has been saved as “iron_block.SPP”
Naming your project this way will make things easier when exporting your texture set later
you can create your texture set with all of its PBR maps as you see fit
a new fill layer was added (with some adjustment sub-layers) to create a dark
a new fill layer adding an indent detail to give the surface of the block some new character
another fill layer to add some dirt collecting in the corners of the indent and some scratches randomly across the surface
Now that the whole texture set is looking great inside Painter
Select: File → Export Textures to open the export subwindow
Create a new export preset configuration like this
which will output your texture set in a way that can be used by the game build
Note that the “$project” prefix on each output map will name each of the exported texture files after the name of the project
if you named your project after the game object that this texture set will belong to
all of your exported textures will immediately be ready for use in the game without any additional renaming
select it in the “Config” field and use these recommended settings: Location - This can be the textures location for the resource pack that you’re working on
This makes things easier because you can export textures from Painter and they will immediately show up or be updated in the same folder that the game is referencing when it runs (assuming that you have your resource pack activated in the game)
PNG - Use this setting to ensure that your files can be used by the game and that they are as small and efficient as possible
Texture set resolution - This is the size of the textures that will be exported
This setting is independent of the resolution of your project
if you want you work on your project at one resolution and then export files at another resolution
1024x1024 is recommended for HD texture sets
Note: The example above is for a fully opaque texture set
If you are using an opacity map in your texture set list for transparency
you will want to export your base color map as a targa (.TGA) file (instead of a .PNG) with the opacity map being stored in the alpha channel
This will save your export settings as well
which will make your workflow much faster as you do further iterations with your texture set
You have created your first set of HD PBR textures for Minecraft with RTX

On top of prettifying textures with PBR enhancements, PBR-enhanced resource packs can also add custom fog definitions and apply them through the new fog stack (for further info, head to Minecraft.net)
This fog stack is ordered by lowest priority to highest:
Both biomes_client.json and /fog Command refer to Fog Definitions which are defined in JSON with the “fog” folder of Resource Packs
Each Fog Definition is a JSON file in the “fog” folder of a Resource Pack
{ "format_version": "1.16.2100"

Biomes The biome layer of the Active Fog Stack is an average of settings from biomes around the player’s position
in biomes_client.json,may reference a Fog Definition by its unique identifier for applying biome specific fog settings
The /fog Command can further manage which Fog Definitions are applied to the Active Fog Stack for each player
Fog settings within this layer of the stack are ordered via push
onto the top of the Fog Command layer(s) of the selected player(s)
as provided previously via a /fog Command using the push mode)

Free “Explore the Guia Circuit” Bus Tour enriches museumgoers’ experience
The 70th edition of the Macau Grand Prix takes place in November
with competitors tearing around a circuit that’s been described as ‘Monaco on steroids.’
The Macau Grand Prix has seen it all – from big-name drivers to nail-biting races that keep you on the edge of your seat
This year’s event takes place on 11-12 November and 16-19 November
and will comprise the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix – FIA Formula 3 World Cup; Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup; Macau Guia Race-TCR World Tour Final; 55th Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix; Macau Touring Car Cup; and the Macau 70th Anniversary Challenge
All events take place on the legendary Guia Circuit
What makes Guia unique is its longevity: there are very few Grand Prix events that are hosted on a track that
that’s just one of the many factors that make Guia special
Here’s a guide to one of the most iconic circuits in motorsport
It’s easily as tough as the Circuit de Monaco
is known for its tight corners with very little room for error
the Guia Circuit is even longer and has more turns (24 to Monaco’s 19)
The Guia Circuit consists of six bends: Mandarin Oriental
The famous Lisboa Bend is usually the scene of most of the action
That’s because the stretch of track from the “R” Bend to the Lisboa Bend is the straightest part of the course and one of the best chances for drivers to overtake
But imagine a racecar or motorbike going full throttle as it passes its rivals
then having to pull up suddenly for a 90-degree right turn
Some of the biggest names in racing have been around this track
From Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher to Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen – many Formula 1 champions have raced on the Guia track
Late Brazilian legend Senna termed the track “very challenging” because of the fast straights then having to slow down the car through the tight corners
Some say legends are made on the Guia Circuit
Accidents aren’t unusual with a course like this
the Macau Grand Prix has seen a total of five racecar driver fatalities
The first was during the 14th Macau Grand Prix in 1967
where Filipino driver Arsenio “Dodjie” Hidalgo Laurel – the youngest child of José P
president of the Philippines from 1943 to 1945 – was favourite to finish first
Laurel unfortunately lost control of his car on the third lap and hit the wall on the Mandarin bend
Standards have improved immeasurably in motorsport in recent decades – from fire-resistant race suits to the protective “halo” recently introduced in formula racing
You can learn more about the history of the Guia Circuit at the Macao Grand Prix Museum. Tickets for the event go on sale soon
