Castilla creep closer and closer to the top of the table
It seems like it is taking forever for Castilla to reach that 40 point mark..
The mark which ensures safety and represents a time in which we may all be able to begin to dream again
The team is picking up points on a weekly basis
but as the saying goes: good things come to those who wait
Another win today against fellow play-off spot pushers Guijuelo would keep that ball rolling at good pace
The team line-up was exactly the same as the previous two weeks
as both Vinícius Júnior and Javier Sánchez were still being covered in cotton wool to stay ready for potential first team action
Augusto Galván returned to the bench after spending the week training alongside Neymar and company with the Brazilian national team in England
I’d like to see some changes for the next game against bottom of the table but for now this isn’t a big issue really

The first half did nothing but reaffirm a few of my initial thoughts regarding this years standard
but throughout this game it became obvious that they lacked any genuine quality
I don’t mean to bash teams for the sake of it
but when the top teams are performing like the bottom teams and still bringing home the bacon
then it gives Castilla followers all the more reason to be optimistic
Castilla themselves showed a lack of quality in areas
and although they controlled the play they were unable to muster up many chances
A Franchu run early on was probably the best chance of a safe half of football
Nice sequence from Franchu here. Just needed a finish. pic.twitter.com/XXxwYMP43D
It always looked as though if anyone was going to grab the points
It took a good while but eventually star man Cristo González superbly flicked on a Franchu cross with his head past the keeper
There wasn’t really much of a shift in momentum after that
and the visitors looked incapable of forging a comeback
They did however come as close as you can get at one point
but took himself out of the game momentarily by doing so
This left the Guijuelo striker with nothing but an empty net to earn his side a point
but punting the ball over the defenceless target from very close range was a sure sign of the quality on show
Castilla managed to see the rest of the game out with ease and looked the better side until the very end

joint top with SS Reyes and Fuenlabrada on 26 points
With the youngsters paying a visit to bottom of the table Deportivo B next week
it could be safe to say we may see Castilla back at the top of the tree sooner than we once thought
How times have changed for those two sides
in what was only his third game back from a lengthy injury
He showed exactly why the team have missed him with his driving forward runs
FULL TIME! Real Madrid Castilla 1-0 Guijuelo! A deserved but well fought win for Castilla seems them climb into the top 3, joint on points with the league leaders! Been a good one tonight. This has been @CastillaStats updating! Thanks for joining me! #MMCastillaLive pic.twitter.com/EE2FoLNm5h

Guijuelo took the lead with their first shot on goal in the 22nd minute
The plans of the reserve team didn’t change and they continued their offensive efforts
looking for the equalizer that would arrive with a stylish shot by Miguel Rodríguez in the 33rd minute
but a red card for Gabri made the team redouble their efforts until they got their deserved reward in the final minutes with an excellent combination between Lautaro
which was successfully finished by the latter
RC Celta B thus managed to get the 3 points in the first of the matches that had been postponed
An important victory that places them in second place in the standings

CD Guijuelo pay tribute to jamón ibérico with new strip
but design leaves a sour taste in the mouth for some
Never mind the stripes, flashy colours or zigzags. When CD Guijuelo, a Spanish football club, were in need of a design for their new away kit, they looked to one of the country’s best-known culinary treasures: jamón ibérico
The Segunda B side is based in the province of Salamanca
an area well-known for the quality of its ham
club president Jorge Hernández said as he showed off the new strip
“There is nothing that quite identifies Guijuelo like jamón
“And what a way to bring jamón to all the places we go.”
which features strips of ham abstractly strewn along every inch of the material
“We also think this design could have a big impact.”
Reaction to the new kit has been swift. Many wondered if it was officially the worst kit in history, while others drew parallels with Lady Gaga’s 2010 meat dress

Some celebrated what they saw as a brilliant marketing strategy. “It might be dumb but it’s trending on Twitter and I’m sure it will be on TV. Everyone is talking about it,” tweeted engineering student Nacho García Estévez
Others complained that the jersey was making them hungry
a remark likely to be well-received by the jamón producers who sponsor the club
in a nod to one of the most popular delicacies in the club’s home region of Galicia
George Bennett finishes second on final day of two-day race
George Bennett (UAE Team Emirates) finished second in Guijuelo in lone pursuit of the Briton
while Jonathan Lastra (Caja-Rural-Seguros RGA) was third
It was the seventh victory of the season for Simon Yates
The general classification mirrored the stage 2 results
with Bennett securing second overall and Lastra third
we put it on the line today,” Yates said
“We didn't know which way it was going to go
whether it would be a sprint for Dion [Smith] or if I'd be able to do something in the final climb
But with the heat and the way the race developed it looked more and more like it would be a select group or a really attacking final for me
“And we really attacked the final climb as hard as possible and I tried to do my best from there onwards
I'm really happy to pull it off and now I'm looking forward to doing San Sebastian on the weekend."
The second and final day of the Spanish race was 189.3km with a hilly profile around Castile and León for the start and finish in Guijuelo
the main breakaway of six riders had a 2:30 advantage over the peloton
the group containing Daniel Mclay (Team Arkéa-Samsic)
Juan Antonio López-Cózar (Burgos-BH)
David González (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA)
Daniel Muñoz (Drone Hopper-Androni Giocattoli) and Pier-Andre Cote (Human Powered Health)
a group of five other riders would tag along
but the efforts would fray and the breakaway ended
With 27km to go Simon Yates (Team BikeExchange) was on his own and had carved out a 1:13 advantage over the next six kilometres
“It felt good to be back on the bike and back at the races after the disappointment I had at the Tour
I actually didn’t feel that good today but hung on and had the legs to do something at the end," Bennett said
"The boys were great today: they did a great job and got me in a really good position
I just couldn’t follow Simon at the end
He was just too strong and second was the best we could do
I’m really glad to be back racing.”

Castilla were looking to bounce back this week against Guijuelo
The two sides were very evenly matched out in the table
with Castilla sitting just one place above their hosts for the week
The line-up was left offensively untouched as per Solari’s preference
but the defence included the underplayed Álex Martín and Jaime Sánchez
Manu Hernando was serving a suspension he gained after being sent off last week

and that could well have had a huge impact on how the game panned out
The play was hammy (if you can pardon the Guijuelo-related pun) for almost the entire game
Perhaps the only real moment of quality the first half managed to produce was the Castilla goal towards the end

0-1 se adelanta el Castilla contra el Guijuelo. Gol d @oscararnaiz10 pic.twitter.com/JCllYyOJXA
The second half saw an improvement in the entertainment
but it was still by no means a memorable half
There were a few clear-cut chances missed at both ends
but neither defence really seemed otherwise tested
the hosts were enjoying a lot of possession
and were almost throwing themselves forwards to salvage something from the game
the common Castilla follower feeling of disappointment was back again
after Guijuelo scrambled an equaliser into Belman’s goal from what looked like a clear offside position
it was far too late for Castilla to save the victory
and they had used up all of their substitutions
This was one of those games that gives you absolutely no inspiration to write about it whatsoever
With Solari’s Castilla - this is all too familiar
I did manage to piece together a few notes however:
and when the equaliser went in (which looked a certainty) he had already shown all of his cards
It has to be said that Solari’s rotation of his reasonably large squad is diabolical
He starts with nearly the exact same team every week
he ignores them hoping that they will go away
the club are taking a childish stance on the Dani Gómez situation
The same can be said for dozens of names that barely get a look in on the team sheet
It was good to see Belman back in good spirits this game
after his really poor showing last time out
The defence also impressed me but that is nothing new
I’m unsure as to why Tejero was benched so that Álex Martín could play out of position again
Even on the occasion that Solari does rotate
It was all looking pretty good for them right until the death..
He may have scored, but I found Óscar to be really disappointing again today. He has been better in the second half of the season compared to the first, but he is still way off the mark if he wants to keep that Real Madrid dream alive
Another season at Castilla is on the cards for him
as a move away is too much of a challenge for him at the moment

Alessio Cerci Set For Atletico Madrid ChanceWinger Alessio Cerci is in line to make a Copa del Rey appearance for Atletico Madrid, having not played for them since 2014.Alessio Cerci is set to make his first Atletico Madrid appearance for two years in the Copa del Rey tie against Guijuelo.
Head coach Diego Simeone has confirmed he plans to use the winger when Atletico host Guijuelo in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday, with a place in the last 16 effectively already secured after winning the first leg 6-0 last month.
Fernando Torres is back in training and has joined Cerci, as well as seven academy players, in the squad of 17 for the game at Vicente Calderon, in what is Atleti's last competitive match of 2016.
Cerci, 29, has not played for Atletico since December 2014 in an away game against Villarreal. Since then he has been on loan with AC Milan and Genoa, before missing the first half of this season with a knee injury.
"It is the perfect opportunity for those first-team players who have not enjoyed much playing time so far to showcase their abilities," said Simeone at his pre-match press conference.
"Nobody is in my doghouse and I always want to give opportunities to everybody.
"He [Cerci] has gone through a rough time and he will get a chance.
"I may give him some minutes so that he feels like a footballer again. Being an important player in the team will solely depend on his performances every day.
"I will tweak a few things with the team in order to seek alternatives that could help us moving forward."

The passage of storm Juan through Spain this Friday
has caused numerous traffic complications with snow and flooding forcing the closure of several motorways and main roads
The worst affected area was in Soria in the Castilla y León region
on the national N-122 road between the towns of Matalebreras and Ontalvilla de Valcorba
On the stretch between kilometre points 115 to 148
some 600 people were trapped in around 500 vehicles
which forced the authorities to call for the support of Spain's Military Emergency Unit (UME)
The fourth Emergency Intervention Battalion (BIEMIV)
w sent to the area to try to clear the road
The main problem faced by the rescue teams was the low temperatures
The province of Soria was this Friday at red level - the same category as this coming Saturday - due to low temperatures
According to the state weather agency (Aemet)
it will be the only province in Spain to reach this severe risk warning level
where there was a heavy snowfall on Friday that caused traffic chaos and the suspension of the Zaragoza-Andorra Second Division match due to the snow and the cold
while the Directorate General of Interior and Emergencies of the Government of Aragón highlighted the problems that affected the A-2
A-23 and AP-68 roads - with cuts to some of them - and pointed out that it was going to continue snowing during the early hours of Saturday on the A-23 towards Teruel
Vehicles also got stuck in the snow on the A-1 at Villarejo (Segovia) and the A-2 at Salinas de Medinaceli and Somaen (both in Soria)
lorries were forced to a halt in the early afternoon due to a storm between the towns of Béjar and Guijuelo
storm Juan left heavy rain on its journey across the region which
together with the water released by storm Irene earlier this week
caused the flooding of some twenty roads - including the A-5 near Mérida - and several urban and rural areas
eight reservoirs had to release water as they were close to the limit of their capacity
