in Alicante as part of “Operation Tafi24,” on suspicion of carrying out more than 80 home burglaries in the coastal town of Jávea (Alicante province)
led by the Investigation Unit of the Jávea Guardia Civil
began in July 2024 after a spike in burglaries affecting both primary and vacation residences
The intruders typically operated when the properties were unoccupied
gaining entry using the so-called “slip method”—a technique that bypasses the door latch without causing visible damage
Following months of surveillance and intelligence work
officers identified the suspects and carried out coordinated raids on April 9 at two homes in Alicante city and another in Villajoyosa
The operation involved support from the Reserve and Security Group (GRS) No
Special Security Response Units (USECIC) from Alicante and Torrevieja
and a specialized canine unit trained to detect currency
The reinforcements were deployed due to the possibility that the suspects could be armed or attempt to resist arrest
Searches at the properties uncovered a wide array of stolen items
electronic devices such as mobile phones and laptops
Many of the recovered items have already been returned to their rightful owners
Investigators confirmed that the suspects were part of an organized criminal group operating systematically in the region
have extensive criminal histories and previous prison sentences for similar offenses
Their arrest marks the dismantling of a local burglary ring and restores a sense of security to residents of Jávea
The suspects were brought before the Court of Instruction No
The Guardia Civil urges residents to report any suspicious activity in residential areas and thanks the public for its vital cooperation
which was key to the success of this operation

The Town Council of Javea has taken a decisive step to protect its most fragile coastal areas
The municipal plenary session unanimously approved a motion to introduce a series of new measures aimed at regulating kayak activities
a sector currently operated by 15 companies that has overwhelmed the capacity of the Granadella and Portitxol coves
“Overcrowded and uncontrolled tourist activities are leading us down a path that will be difficult to reverse,” warned the text of the motion
highlighting the risk of damage to some of the municipality’s most iconic natural sites
The situation is increasingly concerning: all kayak tours currently depart from the Granadella jetty
creating pressure that has raised alarms not only among political leaders but also within the sector itself
has conveyed its frustration to the Town Council
calling for greater monitoring and enforcement to ensure that previously agreed regulations are respected
the plenary session agreed to strengthen the current citizen coexistence by-law by introducing specific regulations governing the use of beaches and coastal areas
the plan includes increased surveillance during peak tourist months
Civil Protection and other security bodies will coordinate efforts to ensure compliance with the new regulations
The Town Council will also launch a public awareness campaign targeting both residents and tourists
promoting responsible kayak use and respect for the natural environment
This process will be carried out in coordination with the relevant authorities and with active participation from businesses in the sector
local community groups and environmental organisations
Javea seeks to balance tourist activities with the preservation of its natural heritage
aiming for a sustainable tourism model that will allow everyone to enjoy its coves for many years to come
Additionally, the Department of Tourism has developed a Responsible Tourist Decalogue, which it intends to promote and disseminate through its own channels and with the private sector’s collaboration. Read it here.

Javea has implemented measures including an action plan to ensure that its residents know how to act in the case of future flooding incidents
Following the severe floods in Valencia and the impact this has left
not only on affected communities but on the whole of Spain
steps are being considered by national leaders in order to mitigate future disasters
What clearly emerged from the recent tragedy – which struck not only the Valencian Community
but also parts of Castilla-La Mancha and Andalucía – is that preparation and action plans are essential in order to save lives and better manage the catastrophic damage that was seen across Spain at the end of October
Spain needs to be vigilant as adverse weather conditions
are very much a future possibility for regions across the country
The situation in Valencia has generated a nationwide consciousness about the importance of knowing how to respond to weather warnings and how to act in a situation like the extreme floods we have seen recently
there has been outrage at the absence of proper warning and the lack of information about how to react in extreme weather conditions
In Javea
a summary of protection measures has been reinstated in order to safeguard the population and in order to act on the lessons learnt by the tragedy witnessed in Valencia
The document referred to is Javea’s Municipal Action Plan document for flood risk (PAM)
made in 2021 has been reviewed and gives detailed information about how to adequately act in the case of an emergency
It is divided into three sections: pre-emergency
Javea hopes that raising awareness of these protocols amongst its residents will hopefully reduce the impacts of any potential future floods
The action plan also includes recommendations for citizens so that they can self-protect against future flooding or similar adverse weather conditions
Javea authorities urge that its residents are well-prepared and understand the protocols instated to be able to avoid a further tragedy from occurring
