and the President of the Port Authority of València (PAV)
held this morning the first meeting of the Inter-administrative Cooperation Body created by the Port Authority of València and València City Council for the management of the spaces located in the old dock of the Port of València
This inter-administrative cooperation body is made up of 4 members: the Mayoress of València
the Councillor for Heritage of Valencia City Council
José Marí Olano and the Secretary General of the PAV
‘The aim of the meeting is to bring order to the mess we found when we came to government,’ said the mayoress
‘It has been a very fruitful first meeting and we have made a strong start because we have tackled three projects financed by the PAV for an amount of 14 million euros for the regeneration of la Marina area with the aim of improving the area and creating more pleasant surroundings for the enjoyment of the citizens,’ said the mayoress.
The three projects focus on the rehabilitation and landscape integration of the area around the Clock Building
the Paseo Elevado (Elevated Walkway) of la Marina and the Muelle de la Aduana (Customs Wharf)
the scope of action is between the Clock Building and the Old Maritime Station where the work will consist of improving the paving
always taking into account the correct accessibility of the spaces
The Port has already awarded the drafting of the project and an investment of 1.85 million euros is foreseen
the action of the Paseo Elevado of la Marina
due to the marine exposure and the passage of time
the promenade requires an important rehabilitation action. The action would consist of the structural rehabilitation of the promenade
improvement of accessibility and safety for people on the promenade
and installation of shades and street furniture
This action has a budget of approximately 5 million euros
where very important deterioration has been detected
and where an action of more than 7 million euros is planned to be carried out by Valenciaport
‘The Port Authority of València has always been sensitive to the environment in which it is located
which is why we are going to speed up these tenders as much as possible and we hope to have some of them ready by 2027
We have to follow the timescales of the Administration: to put out the tenders
we are going to have a totally regenerated area
president of the Port Authority of València
The mayoress stressed that ‘we have left behind the times when nothing happened in la Marina
We are reactivating this area as a space for entrepreneurship and innovation
allowing the expansion and installation of key aspects
and we are also going to generate a friendlier environment’
‘today’s effort is a clear example of a before and an after of a situation that we find ourselves in 2023
Thanks to the loyal collaboration with the València City Council
we have managed to process this agreement in record time
recalled that in just over a year and a half of government
the green light has been given to the expansion of Marina de Empresas in the former Alinghi base
‘a project that was about to go to another city because its expansion was blocked and the previous team preferred a Labora building to one that was committed to entrepreneurship
allowing the expansion of an extremely important project for the city
which represents an investment of more than 14 million euros’
the green light was given for the concession of the former Iberdrola base to the technology company Sésame
‘We want la Marina to be the innovation and technology hub of reference
but we also want this space to be integrated into the city with regeneration and landscape integration projects
and we have already taken very important steps in a short time,’ said the mayoress
the president of the PAV has confirmed that she plans to allocate initially ‘14 million euros from its investment plan to the three projects announced today’

Ventimiglia is undergoing a major transformation since the construction of Monaco’s new port, Cala Del Forte. The Marina Development Corporation (MDC), headed up by Dutch businessman and Monegasque resident Rob Thielen, has a lot to do with it
An international investor and philanthropist
Thielen is also the founder of Waterland Private Equity Investments
a venture capital firm that is partly responsible for his wealth
Since seeing the port of Ventimiglia in 2018 from his boat
Thielen has put the “floral gateway to Italy” at the heart of his strategy to turn run-down coastal locations into luxury destinations
MDC’s flagship project in Ventimiglia, Borgo del Forte, includes a five-star hotel, 70 luxury apartments, the La Rocca restaurant with views over the port and the Mediterranean Sea
a sports centre and an 18,000 m² public park
Rob Thielen’s vision is clear: to attract an international clientele and restore a strong tourism dynamic to Ventimiglia
with the help of Monaco’s Cala del Forte port
To revitalise the historic centre of Ventimiglia, the plan is to connect it directly to Borgo del Forte by means of a lift system leading to via Verdi, where an elevator will serve the upper town. A 1,000 m² car park and a panoramic promenade are also planned to improve connections between the marina and the town, where a new restaurant, Venti
At the other end of the town, to the east, MDC plans to build a 30,000 m² International Campus on the former Campasso railway depot
it is due to house an Olympic swimming pool
squash and tennis courts and large green spaces to enjoy the surroundings
MDC has also extended its activities to Marina di Pisa
where it is developing a similar project at the mouth of the River Arno
it should include luxury facilities and 38 flats
Despite these ambitions and over €200 million invested in the project
the Borgo del Forte project has come up against a number of stumbling blocks
Some of Ventimiglia’s town council members and residents have expressed doubts about the public interest of these changes
To be able to move forward with the projects, the MDC team underwent a major reshuffle in June, and a meeting was held in July between the new mayor of Ventimiglia
and the new team to find joint solutions and make the project more beneficial to the residents of the Italian town
the MDC CEO Anselmo De Titta offered reassurance about the project’s progress: “The project is so rich in terms of ideas and quality that I’m sure we’ll reach our goals very quickly
We are optimistic and look forward to the next phase of dialogue with confidence.”

6 May 2024.- La The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has received three bids for the public tender for the adaptation and exploitation under administrative concession of the nautical-sports facilities in the northern area of the Port of València (management of La Marina) up to 12 noon today
when the deadline for receipt of bids closed
It is the PAV’s will to achieve excellent nautical-sports facilities
which provide a substantial improvement in the quality of the services provided to users and recreational craft
as well as a closer relationship with the city that allows citizens to enjoy its facilities by promoting nautical and cultural activities
The Port of València currently has two areas for nautical-sports practice
operated by the Real Club Náutico de València and the other to the north
originated by the holding of the America’s Cup in Valencia in 2007
and which has been operated under the umbrella of a Demanial Agreement from 2013 to 2021 by the Consorcio Valencia 2007
The nautical-sports facilities in the northern area of the Port of València are distributed among the three docks that make it up (the inner dock
which currently house more than 800 moorings for boats of between 7 and 170 m in length
The purpose of the Specifications is to regulate the tender procedure for the selection of a bid for the award of an administrative concession for the adaptation and operation of the nautical-sports facilities in the northern area of the Port of Valencia
on the land and waters defined in Condition 3 of the General and Particular Conditions and in accordance with the Basic Project presented in the bid
28 December 2023.- The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of València (PAV) has adopted this morning two agreements that will allow nautical users of La Marina to develop their activities normally and with legal certainty
pending the conclusion of the liquidation process in which the “Consorcio València 2007 En Liquidación” is currently involved
The first of the aforementioned agreements was on the agenda as “Maintenance of the authorisation of the CONSORCIO VALÈNCIA 2007 IN LIQUIDATION (Code AV474) to occupy the public domain spaces relating to the nautical-sports facilities”
The approval of this point allows the continuity of the current title to ensure that the Consortium València 2007 (CV07) can continue to provide services to boats in the nautical-sports facilities of the Marina
until the granting of the new concessionary title resulting from the tender whose specifications were approved by the Council on 5 December
The second of the agreements adopted at today’s meeting of the PAV Council refers to the “Conventional modification of the contract for the supply of electrical energy to the facilities of the Port Authority of València”
This is an extension of the PAV’s current electricity supply contract which includes the incorporation of new supply points previously included in the scope of management of the “Consorcio”
A purely operational modification that guarantees the continuity in the provision of basic services in La Marina
The PAV Board meeting was held telematically
The Port of Valencia has received a favourable report on the construction project for container terminal expansion in the port’s northern area
The report was issued by Puertos del Estado (OPPE)
a Spanish state-owned company responsible for the management of state-owned ports
and dependent on the Ministry of Transport
The president of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV)
presented the details of the State Ports report on the new terminal to the members of the APV Board of Directors who met on 25 March
Puertos del Estado states that the project must be completed with the observation of testing of seabed materials to be dredged in the Port of Sagunto
an aspect that the PAV will present in the coming weeks
OPPE added that a trial on small container ships should be conducted to ensure the operability of the terminal for the widest possible fleet of container ships
The container terminal planned for the inland waters of the northern extension of the Port of Valencia is a clear example of an infrastructure that combines sustainability and growth
The authority claims the new terminal will be “the most environmentally advanced in the world” and will contribute to generating employment and wealth in the Valencian Community and Spain
The new container terminal will involve an investment of close to €1.4 billion euros: €400 million ($439 million) public and €1 billion ($1.1 billion) private investment
It will have a capacity of 5 million TEU per year
According to the study on the impact of the new Container Terminal of the North Extension of the Port of Valencia
carried out by the Institute of Transport and Territory (ITRAT)
the economic impact of the port of Valencia will represent in terms of added value 2.27 per cent
The new container terminal will minimise CO2 emissions by supplying electricity to cranes and yard machinery and to container ships
The project presented by TIL/MSC to Valenciaport includes the electrification of 98 per cent of the driving components and installations of the terminal; and in addition
100 per cent of the electricity will come from renewable sources
which in turn will imply a 98 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions
the use of advanced traffic prediction systems
the design of the buildings with energy efficiency criteria
and the external lighting system with LED-type luminaires will minimise energy consumption
TIL has also committed to develop a railway terminal equipped with six 1,000-metre-long tracks
with the capacity to move 305,000 TEUs/year by rail
In February, Valenciaport President Aurelio Martínez explained his outlook for revitalising rail traffic in the Valencian port system at a summit in the Port of Sines.
Valenciaport has reaffirmed itself as one of Europe’s busiest ports, handling 5,604,478 TEU in 2021.

A boost to the public housing stock with the purchase of three properties from the public company Regesa. The blocks belonged to the former Barcelonès County Council and are located in the districts of Horta-Guinardó, Sants-Montjuïc and Nou Barris. The 170 flats would have fallen into private hands in a period of between 15 and 17 years, as was the case with other blocks forming part of the divestment process for the metropolitan area.
Through an investment of 10.7 million euros (17% below market value), the municipal purchase has prevented the loss of the three blocks, located at Carrer de la Mare de Déu de Port, 179-183 (La Marina, Sants-Montjuïc), Carrer de Teodor Llorente, 6-8 (Guinardó, Horta-Guinardó) and Carrer de la Selva, 59-61 (Porta, Nou Barris).
The City Council granted Regesa a free 75-year lease of municipal land for the three buildings in 2006 so that public rental housing could be built. Yet the public protection period was for 30 years, counting from the definitive classification made between 2007 and 2009, a period far shorter than the time when the lease on the use of the land would expire, in 2081.
After the three decades, these homes could have been privatised, but with the direct acquisition by the City Council the flats become publicly owned, safeguarding the right to affordable housing of all the residents renting them.
The properties acquired are practically the last to be owned by Regesa in the city, leaving some thirty remaining homes in different blocks. As these are officially protected, they can be directly purchased by the City Council or any other administration.
The privatisation of housing built on public land could have been avoided in other blocks built by Regesa, which at the time were sold with leases. The last episode of this type was in 2013, when the Barcelonès County Council (made up of municipal councils in the Barcelonès area) sold the lease on 298 homes to the investment fund Azora rather than any public administration. The homes were rental flats with a protection period slightly below the duration of the lease.
Text description provided by the architects. In recent years Malaga has lived with its back to the sea, thanks to maritime activity that has kept the port off limits. The main objective of this intervention has been to recover a relationship that should have never been broken.
This latest urban transformation has reorganized the area by changing the use of Muelle Uno (Wharf One) so that local residents can enjoy strolling around and contemplating the new space.
PlanUsing existing landforms, the project proposes a linear solution on two levels which has created a parade of shops at wharf level, bringing new life and energy to a previously lifeless area, while the upper level features a new seafront promenade typical of all cities with a rich maritime tradition.
© Nicolás PinzónThe project is completed by a cultural centre which also serves as a visual attraction. El Cubo, a branch of the Centre Pompidou, is without doubt the most characteristic part of the project, not only for its strategic position, but also for the boldness of its form.
© Nicolás PinzónThe centre itself occupies the majority of the 6,300m2 on the ground and lower ground floors at the corner of Muelle Uno and its exterior features two elements of considerable plasticity.
© Nicolás PinzónFirstly, the roof of the Centre forms a new plaza at the same level as the city, using a fifth façade to evoke a sea of stone out of which emerges el Cubo, the building's insignia. Now an iconic symbol of the new wharf, this cube has glass sides twelve metres long.
© Nicolás PinzónThe metal framework is covered by dozens of glass sheets which overlap like fish scales filtering the light which enters the cultural centre and enriching the texture of the sides of the cube itself, which has recently been given a new touch of colour by French artist Daniel Buren.

The Port of Malaga is to call a public tender to choose a new big wheel attraction
The port authority will provide the space at the entrance off the Plaza de la Marina for a temporary attraction
once the interest of at least two bids has been formally confirmed
"We will launch a tender in the coming months due to the interest generated; following recent news
a lot of interested parties have appeared or contacted us," said Carlos Rubio
The port management has already secured initial approval from the town hall to occupy the area with an observation wheel
which faces no objections as long as it remains a temporary installation
the duration specified in the tender document
The minimum duration required to recoup the investment needed for installation by the developer will be one year
with typically an option for an additional one-year extension
interest in bringing back the big wheel that operated for several years in the most central area of Malaga's port has surged in recent weeks
initial interest from various business groups to lead this project was joined recently by a further step forward
The port authority has officially received through registration the applications of two companies interested in setting up such an observation wheel
it is possible that other offers may join soon or directly once the public tender is announced
Among the promoters of the initial projects that have been submitted are the partners from the city's first big wheel
which was removed due to traffic issues on an inner road
They are competing alongside new investors
The significant change compared to the one installed in 2015 concerns the location
situated at the entrance to Palmeral from Plaza de la Marina
The planned wheel will be approximately 40 metres in height
The most direct impact will be the need to remove palm trees
which will have to be transplanted to other areas of the site
these trees generally tolerate relocation well
this location has no nearby residents who could be affected
unlike what happened with the wheel at Muelle de Heredia; any potential noise and visual impact would be mitigated by the forested area of the park
There could be some interaction with the current views from the Málaga Palacio hotel
Given the temporary nature of the installation
the idea is for the port as an institution to directly grant permits for the location
although the city hall will need to authorise the activity
this would actually be the first step of a more ambitious plan
a long-term plan that will depend on the acceptance of the people of Malaga
and users of the viewpoint at the chosen location
The president of the port authority has openly showed an interest in having a viewpoint for the city in the public use area of the port (currently corresponding to docks 1 and 2
potentially reaching a height of about 80 metres
The structure would require at least a couple of years for its construction and would also need to be approved through a public tender
the temporary attraction currently being promoted would remain in place
provided that the reception of the wheel by the general public is favourable."
This will be the second time a big wheel has been in the Malaga port area
The first was there for nearly four years (between 2015 and 2019) at the corner of Muelle de Heredia
included in all tourist information guides and a favourite spot for photography enthusiasts (especially at night when it was illuminated)
with its images widely shared on social media
initially rejected before the urban planning management corrected course shortly afterward
Its departure was also precipitated by one of its supports interfering with an inner road where heavy vehicles passed
and modifying this structure would have been very costly
Its removal was also justified by plans for promoting office spaces along Muelle de Heredia
a project that five years later has still not started and has at least another two years ahead
continuing to block any initiatives in this area
there have been attempts to revive this tourist attraction in the centre of Malaga
though it wasn't until recently that these efforts gained momentum due to the favourable reception from the port institution and the tourism boom that Malaga is currently experiencing

the largest network of marinas in the Mediterranean
has added an important piece to the mosaic of its ports
This latest entry further strengthens the ambitious national (and soon international) coverage of the Marinedi network
The Marina di Salina concession was obtained by Marinedi Group last August 28
but management will not begin until April 2024
Marinedi will complete safety work to ensure its usability at all times of the year and implement the services provided by the “Marinedi standard,” such as 24-hour reception
the Marina di Salina (the network’s 15th marina) will become a usable port for most months of the year
ideally from before April until at least the end of October
The marina currently has a maximum depth of 5 meters and 158 berths that can accommodate boats up to 40 meters long
which has been awarded a summer concession
aims to increase the marina’s capacity to at least 200 berths
An important issue that Marinedi aims to resolve in the port of Salina is that of fees
the landing place is among the few marinas in the Aeolian Islands
and therefore very popular with those passing through the area
The Marinedi network was established in late 2012 and in about ten years has slowly expanded its presence on the Italian coast
The network’s mission is to offer the same level of services
qualified staff and a clear and exposed rate system in all the Group’s marinas: as is the case in international hotel chains
The network currently has 15 marinas scattered throughout the Italian Mediterranean and allows clients with annual contracts to move to the network’s marinas
by taking advantage of the “8+4” formula
one can decide to moor for eight months in one marina in the network and move for the remaining four months to another
The development of the Marinedi network does not stop at Marina di Salina; rather
it aims to announce the network’s first foreign marina soon
which could be announced during 2024 as a new addition to the network
Discussions with authorities in Tunisia are well advanced and could soon lead Marinedi to its first step toward international development
In parallel with the expansion of the network
Marinedi is also engaged in a very ambitious environmental sustainability project
The five-year plan aims to make all of the Group’s marinas autonomous in terms of energy supply
The project was entrusted by Marinedi ‘s sole administrator to engineer Nino Mosca and involves an initial phase of state-of-the-art diagnosis of all marinas
followed by subsequent implementation of systems that can make them autonomous
All sustainable production options will be screened and decided according to different needs: photovoltaic
The possibility of creating energy communities will also be exploited and considered
so as to harness the social fabric around the marina to pool and use energy produced from sustainable sources

the Yacht-Club flagship Tuiga inaugurated Monaco’s third port
La Marina di Cala del Forte isn’t in Monaco
Port Hercule and the harbour of Fontvieille are filled to the brim
a complicated situation for a country as small as the Principality Monaco
At the end of 2016, Monaco decides to buy the dealership of Ventimiglia’s tourist port for the next 85 years
the Cala del Forte port has now partially opened for the winter season
The port is expected to welcome between 30 and 50 boats in the following weeks
In light of the pandemic and the all too recent Storm Alex
which devastated the Riviera’s hinterland and destroyed one of Ventimiglia’s bridges
the port’s inauguration was as sober and as discreet as possible and was attended only by a select number of Monégasque and Italian officials
The traditional inauguration of pomp and circumstance is expected at the beginning of summer 2021
The Cala del Forte port has a capacity of up to 178 ships
There are several hundred parking spaces available and a shopping district with around thirty boutiques will open in April
the port is only twenty minutes away from Monaco
The team formed by b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos
and DJ Arquitectura has won the competition to design Málaga’s new Plaza de la Marina and connect Parque de Málaga to the seafront
This park and the palm-lined port promenade called Palmeral de las Sorpresas are currently disconnected by the priority given to vehicles
as well as by the grade discrepancy produced by Paseo de los Curas
The Málaga Coast Plan sets the bases for burying wheeled traffic and replacing it at ground level with a linear park that will reconcile the city with its waterfront and harbor
Called Ecosistema Litoral (Coastal Ecosystem)
the awarded scheme to redefine Málaga's coastal front and tie the urban fabric to the port endeavors: to maximize connectivity of circulation routes; to establish a gradual transition between the elements that shape the zone; to give the Plaza de la Marina a new central presence and representational role within the city; and to harness resources equipped with systems for harvesting renewable energy sources and making the most of water
The two main strategies of the project involve the city-harbor nexus
through maximum permeability in pedestrian circulations; and the Malagueta-Marina axis
which links the Malagueta beach to the Heredia dock and serves as a landscape route
the project aims to enhance interaction between existing green spaces and encourage use of public transportation (the interurban bus station is placed underground)

Malaga council has announced the winner of a competition to design part of its Litoral Plan
which aims to move traffic underground in the south of the city centre from Avenida Manuel Agustín Heredia to the Pablo Ruiz Picasso seafront promenade
and build two bus stations below the Plaza de la Marina and the forecourt of the main railway station
Entries to the competition had to design the pedestrian space that will be gained as a result of this ambitious plan
in the Plaza de la Marina and from Calle Cordoba to Avenida Cánovas del Castillo
The winner is the ‘Ecosistema Litoral’ project presented by Fermín Vázquez’s B720 studio along with Luis Machuca
The Prointec engineering firm has also been involved
extends the Parque towards the Plaza de la Marina and the port
creating a natural fusion between the spaces
Their design involves remodelling and expanding the Plaza de la Marina to create a central space suitable for concerts
and new buildings around the sides for cafés
a tourist office and the entrance to the bus station
Fermín Vázquez explained that the aim is to create a better and more sustainable city
and that the plans have been designed to provide improved views of the Farola lighthouse
The Paseo del Parque would also be extended towards the Palmeral de las Sorpresas with garden areas and even a type of river over the traffic tunnel
Luis Machuca said that in their design they “wanted the port to become part of the city
and to make the Plaza de la Marina habitable and comfortable
said that the council will do as much as it can once the works below the Plaza de la Marina are completed
the Malaga Litoral Plan will have to be approved by the council before anything can be done and so far no consensus has been reached as only the Partido Popular supports the project
The offices already in operation provide access to care resources and offer free community activities to strengthen mutual support networks
The activities offered by the four facilities are aimed at carers
families and local people who take part in support networks
They promote support groups for child-rearing
intergenerational activities with elderly people and children
physical activity outdoors for the elderly
sitting and action to make public space a place for care too
Analysis of the state of care in the pilot neighbourhoods
a survey was conducted of two thousand people from the four neighbourhoods in the pilot project
to gauge the situation with care for local people
The preliminary study showed the following data:
These data highlight the need to strengthen care and community responses to guarantee everybody’s right to care and be cared for
The roll-out of Vila Veïna in the city corresponds to a transformation in the social and healthcare model
joint responsibility and personalised care
The main change comes through conceiving care as a shared community task
Because community care is better than solitary care
It is a community area with between 10,000 and 30,000 inhabitants
where all social and healthcare resources are shared with the goal of everybody having them nearby and being able to access them easily
Each unit will have a headquarters for the team of care specialists
each territorial unit will adapt to the particular needs of the neighbourhood where they are implemented
Twelve more units will be established in 2022
The roll-out should see 115 units established in total
Conceived more than a decade ago as one of Marbella's most important projects
the expansion of the port at La Bajadilla has been stalled for years
the Junta de Andalucía is resuming its plans for the troubled initiative and the 30-day deadline for environmental objections has just closed
A consortium involving controversial Malaga CF owner Sheikh Abdullah ben Nasser Al Thani was awarded the contract in 2011 but the Junta de Andalucía withdrew the concession from the sheikh
The company that will be in charge of carrying out this extension is UTE Marina Internacional
which although it lost the public tender in 2011 when Sheikh Al-Thani won it
it was awarded the contract years later after the controversy unleashed around the former Málaga CF president
The Temporary Joint Venture (UTE) of Sheikh Abdullah ben Nasser Al Thani
was awarded in 2011 the project for the expansion of the marina of La Bajadilla in Marbella
The initial investment for the construction of the harbour works stood at 84 million euros and 7.5 million for the commercial areas
although the final budget - including the development of the services - could be around 400 million euros
As far as job creation forecasts are concerned
it was estimated that there could be around 500 new jobs in the construction phase
between 1,000 and 1,500 in the operation phase and around 3,000 direct jobs
The new port of La Bajadilla would have a capacity for more than 1,200 vessels including cruise ships
mega yachts and medium and large ships thanks to a circular design
The whole initiative generated great expectation in the town at the time
the development of the project did not progress over the years
the regional authority withdrew the concession from the sheikh for non-compliance with several points to which he was obliged
the delay in the delivery of the project for more than four years
Apart from the extension of La Bajadilla port
Marbella is planning to redevelop the port of Virgen del Carmen
the council's idea is to promote this space once they manage to renew the concession for another 25 years
the technical teams are already working on a proposal that is being drawn up with the support of a specialised consultancy firm
"It is going to be a major project that will transform the nautical zone
the commercial and leisure areas and that will be committed to sustainability," explained the mayor
it will consider more than twenty lines of action such as the reorganisation of the 350 moorings to provide berths for longer vessels
the relocation of the harbourmaster's building and the fuel tanks
improvements to the sewage and drainage network
as well as the installation of photovoltaic panels and small desalination plants to improve energy efficiency
organized by Fira de Barcelona with the collaboration of the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN)
