The transfer of the Rodalies commuter train network was part of a political deal between pro-independence Esquerra Republicana and Socialists to reelect Pedro Sánchez as Spanish PM back in November 2023
a significant step toward the transfer was taken
requested that the Spanish cabinet withdraw part of the R1 network from the overall network and transfer it to regional authorities
The transfer will begin with the R1 network between La Sagrera station in Barcelona and Maçanet-Massanes
The management change will take place in 2025
before the Catalan rail operator Ifercat can fully manage the transferred commuter line
the regional authorities and the Spanish rail operator Adif will have to jointly manage the lines
"We'll need to strengthen Ifercat," sources of the territory ministry said
regarding the public rail operator that will need more staff and a larger budget
R1 will be the first line to be transferred, but according to the agreement signed between ERC and the Socialists
the R2 South and R3 lines will follow.
Compared to the latter, R1, the Rodalies commuter line, is less complex to transfer because it does not share rails with regional, long-distance or freight train lines.
"The transfer of the R1 is the first step towards a future zero-carbon public transport network," Sílvia Paneque, territory minister, said during a press conference on Tuesday.
The entire transferred structure between Maçanet-Massanes and Bifurcació Sagrera includes 73 kilometers of tracks across 21 municipalities between Girona and Barcelona.
The line has 22 train stations, 12 level crossings, eight tunnels, 514 underground corridors, 36 elevators, and seven escalators.
Esquerra Republicana's leader Oriol Junqueras has been one of the most vocal after the announcement by the Catalan government.
"This is a measure that is part of the solution, but it is only one part of this solution," he said in an interview with the Spanish RTVE public broadcaster before adding that "more is needed."
Esquerra's support for Sánchez's presidential bid continues to be crucial as the Spanish cabinet governs with a minority government in Congress. In Catalonia, the Catalan Socialist party requires the support of the left-wing party to pass its 2025 spending plan and other major legislation, as it also governs in the minority.
"We await for the Socialists to comply with the agreements, but they say they need time to implement them. It does not make sense to reach new deals if the previous ones are still not fulfilled," he concluded.
Far-left pro-independence CUP party criticized that the transfer is made "by parts."
"It is difficult to understand that the transfer is not of the whole Rodalies commuter train network," Maria Pilar Castillejo, CUP MP, told journalists.
The pro-union far-right Vox party rejected the transfer of the network. "Investments are very necessary. Our region and our country need to improve a lot, but this will not happen if we give up to the Catalan government, which does not know how to manage," spokesperson Joan Garriga said.

Historic Spanish marque Hispano Suiza on Friday launched the next evolution of its Carmen electric hypercar
The new version is called the Carmen Sagrera
and its arrival marks the 120th anniversary of the founding of Hispano Suiza
Its name is also a nod to the La Sagrera district of Barcelona
where Hispano Suiza opened a factory in 1911
The original Carmen made its debut in 2019 with a peak output of 1,000 hp. A more hardcore version known as the Carmen Boulogne was launched in 2020
The new Carmen Sagrera matches the 1,100-hp of the Carmen Boulogne
and combines this output with a new 103-kwh battery fully developed in-house
the new battery can fit in the same T-shaped space in the Carmen Sagrera's carbon-fiber tub taken up by the 80-kwh battery in earlier Carmen versions
and is claimed to deliver a range of almost 300 miles on the WLTP test cycle used overseas
A lower rating would result using the stricter EPA test cycle
Other upgrades include an improved cooling system for the battery
a set of bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires
and an upgraded brake package that's not only lighter but also offers more braking feel
The aerodynamic package of the car also underwent a significant redesign
especially at the rear where there is a divided spoiler resembling a stork's wings
Hispano Suiza said the aerodynamic changes significantly increase downforce and grip levels
The car's 1,100-hp output is generated by four axial-flux motors
Each of the rear wheels is driven by two motors paired in series
The 0-62 mph acceleration time is 2.6 seconds
Hispano Suiza hasn't said how many Sagreras will be built
Railway operator Adif has begun the first tests on the high-speed tracks of the future La Sagrera station
The action represents a significant step towards the operation of this important railway node in Barcelona
Five high-speed tracks are expected to be operational before the end of the year
Authorities detailed that of the total number of tracks
one will be used for traffic and the other four for logistic tasks
This development is in addition to the fact that the first passenger trains on conventional tracks began running through the station at the end of 2020
Initial tests on the high-speed tracks have begun with the use of railway machinery
This machinery is performing tours of the infrastructure
This is in order to evaluate its condition and operation
Those responsible have stated that these tests are crucial to ensure that
high-speed trains will be able to operate safely on these tracks
explained that after this first phase of loading tests
the ERTMS signaling and safety system will be verified
He also commented that high-speed trains without passengers will be used
It should be recalled that the commissioning of the new station has suffered several postponements in the calendar
Although the authorities have not set a new definitive date
it is expected that by the end of the year high-speed trains running between Barcelona
Girona and the French border will begin to pass through the interior of the La Sagrera structure
they commented that this will be without stopping at the platforms
This despite the fact that the platforms have already been completed
This preliminary operation is possible thanks to the completion of the first phase of works for the high-speed service
This first phase has included the construction of four service tracks in the Technical Train Treatment Zone (ZTTT) and a traffic track on the sea side of the railway complex
currently overloaded with six tracks for train logistics
will enable essential tasks to be carried out
changing the crew and provisioning on-board services
actions that improve the operational efficiency of the rail network
Adif has reported that nearly 70% of the budget of more than 1.1 billion euros allocated to the La Sagrera railway infrastructure has been executed
The works have included the installation of catenary and other electrification systems
4,900 meters of track with 9.8 kilometers of rail and 3,690 cubic meters of concrete will have been built
construction of the 23,400 square meters of the unique roof that will cover the central part of the structure is expected to be completed in the coming months
with half of the sea side already completed
This progress is essential for the completion of the station
which has been a project in development for more than 20 years since the construction company was formed
will become an important connection point in Spain’s high-speed rail network
relieving congestion at other stations and improving the operational capacity of the rail network in Catalonia
Its development has been a long and complex process
but recent tests and construction progress indicate that the station is finally in the home stretch towards its inauguration

During the weekend of April 12 to 13, service on Barcelona’s metro line L1 will be suspended between the stations La Sagrera and Glòries to improve accessibility at the station Clot.
Five new elevators will be installed to connect the concourse and platforms to improve accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility.
The station’s vestibule will also be expanded, and special flooring will be added to assist visually impaired passengers.
Barcelona’s metro operator, TMB, has set up a special bus service to cover the affected section. This will run according to the regular metro schedule and is complemented by other metro lines and the regular bus network.
On Sunday, the last special bus will depart from the Glòries station at 0:33 am (technically Monday), and from La Sagrera at 00:18 am.
Additionally, service on the L2 line between La Pau and Badalona-Pompeu Fabra has been suspended starting on Saturday and will remain closed until April 21, coinciding with Easter Week. Special shuttle buses will also run throughout the disruption to cover the section.
The last buses will depart from Badalona-Pompeu Fabra at 11.29 pm on weekdays, Sundays, and public holidays and at 1.29 pm on Fridays and holiday eves.
Barcelona’s metro network has a total of 163 stations, of which 155 - or 95% - are adapted for people with reduced mobility. The Catalan Ministry of Territory recently announced its intention to make all remaining stations accessible before the end of the current government term, which runs until 2028.
Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera - front We’d forgive you if you’d forgotten that Hispano Suiza exists. The low-volume Spanish company (whose name means ‘Spanish-Swiss’ in reference to its founders’ nationalities) was originally a kind of Spanish Rolls-Royce
building both luxury cars for the era’s jetset and aircraft engines between 1904 and 1946
it took a brief 73-year break from car manufacturing
It returned in 2019 with the electric Carmen
an art-deco-influenced supercar apparently defined by the philosophy of ‘hyperlux’
and it’s celebrated with the most powerful
most exclusive and maddest version of the Carmen yet: the Sagrera
Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera - interior Named after the La Sagrera neighbourhood of Barcelona
where Hispano Suiza set up its first large scale factory
the Sagrera uses four electric motors to send 1100bhp and 856lb ft of torque to the rear wheels alone
That’s enough for a claimed 0-62mph time of 2.6 seconds
while a newly-developed 103kWh battery pack
arranged in a T shape across the centre of the car
Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera - rear It’s been developed as the most driver-focused version of the Carmen yet
Adjustable shocks and springs are fitted all round
and the suspension arms are made of some unspecified ‘military-grade’ material
which is apparently up to eight times tougher than traditional steel
It also has 400mm carbon ceramic brake discs all around
and the steering has a new setup compared to past versions of the Carmen
It also hasn’t shied away from the sheer retrofuturist weirdness of its predecessors’ designs
Easily the centrepiece of the Sagrera is its vast rear spoiler that branches out in both directions like a pair of wings
That’s not a coincidence – it’s inspired by Hispano Suiza’s logo
and the infotainment system given an overhaul
Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera - side The company’s head of design
while maintaining our tradition of excellence and setting the stage for future designs
We have to imagine Hispano Suiza’s customers’ desires are fairly specific
There’s no word on when it’ll go on sale or for how much
but the Sagrera will be doing its best Kate Bush impression by running up that hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July

The Generalitat de Catalunya has initiated the public information process for the informative and environmental impact study of the extension of Line 4 of the Barcelona metro between La Pau and La Sagrera
The public information process will allow citizens and stakeholders to provide input and suggestions on the project
This space is intended to evaluate the environmental and social impact of the project and ensure that it is carried out in the most efficient and sustainable manner possible
The Line 4 extension project aims to significantly increase the connectivity and robustness of Barcelona’s public transport system
The aim is to facilitate connections with lines L1
as well as with Rodalies and high-speed trains
The goal is for the extension to capture a demand of 43,000 users per day
which translates into more than 15 million passengers per year
The project will have a total investment of 375 million euros and will save 3,860 hours in working days and the emission of 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year
The Barcelona Metro Line 4 extension project will have three new stations
will be located between La Pau and Sagrera-TAV
While most of the tunnel needed for this new extension is already built (it is used for lines L9 and L10 north)
the project will require the excavation of a new 320-meter open cut tunnel between screens and some work on the two existing tunnel sections
The Government declared that 100% of the civil works for La Sagrera-TAV and La Sagrera stations have already been completed
The main objective of the project is to improve the mobility of citizens and reduce travel times
it will also contribute to reducing pollution in the city
which is in line with the administration’s environmental objectives

effective and high quality mobility is crucial
The shelter discovered with the works of the Sagrera
Records say that in Barcelona the civilian population organized to build 1,322 air-raid shelters to protect them against the bombings of the fascist air force
there are only four of these shelters in the city that can be visited
one of which has just been opened this week after having spent almost a century hidden behind a wall: the shelter of La Sagrera
a shelter discovered in 2014 during the remodeling works of the Sagrera Tower
was built by neighbors in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War
its existence was unknown and that it was in an exceptional state of preservation thanks to having remained closed for decades
the shelter preserves original elements such as electrical wiring
a ventilation shaft and even drawings and writings of the time
all absolutely intact thanks to the fact that the shelter remained absolutely sealed since the Civil War
This discovery makes the shelter one of the best preserved in Barcelona
formerly known as Torre de la Marquesa or Torre del Genovés
was built at the end of the 19th century as a private residence
During the war it was collectivized and converted into a neighborhood school
it was about to be demolished due to the urban planning linked to the works of the AVE
but the neighborhood mobilization saved the building
which today functions as a neighborhood casal
The shelter does not appear in the inventory made by the Junta de Defensa Pasiva of July 16
perhaps due to the pressure exerted by the workers of the collectivized company that operated in the building
The space takes advantage of the cooler built in the second basement of the Tower and is made with Catalan volta
like many of the shelters built at the time
The shelter has an access from inside the Tower and another from the outside
which was discovered in 2021 with the redevelopment works of Berenguer de Palou street at its intersection with Clara Zetkin street
The appearance of the Sagrera shelter, which did not appear in the records that indicate the existence of 1,322 such spaces in the city, gives an idea of how many places there are still to be discovered in the city.
Barcelona’s metro network is 100 years old
The transport authority of the Catalan capital is already looking towards the next 100 years
and looking at how it can provide services for as many people as possible
Plenty of new stations are coming to the Barcelona metro network
it’s expected that there will be more than 200 stations running through more than 200km of rail network
a significant increase on the current 165 stations running on 125km of tracks.
L1 will be extending both north into Badalona and south into el Prat
the L1 is planned to continue on from Fondo
the last of which will act as a connection with Rodalies trains.
It’s expected that these new northern stations will be open by around 2030
are not projected to be open until at least 2040
The L2 is getting an extension through Montjuïc into the Zona Franca industrial estate
New stations will connect Sant Antoni to the MNAC art museum and the Montjuïc mountain
ultimately connecting with the L9 Sud at Parc Logístic
the L2 will follow the path of the L9 all the way to Barcelona airport
giving the city new public transport connections to the facility.
On the other end of L3, the transport authority’s master plan also foresees a new stop on the Besòs side to connect Trinitat Vella and Trinitat Nova.
The L4 will grow from La Pau, the current end fo the line, into La Sagrera, the soon-to-be mega transport hub in Sant Andreu. Santander, La Sagrera-TAV, and La Sagrera will be the new stations after that extension is complete.
L9 and L10 are currently open only at either end of the city – the far north traunch and the far south piece. Both lines have different endpoints, but they converge at a certain stop; Bon Pastor in the case of the north lines, Can Tries Gornal for the southern part.
The L10 Sud in the Zona Franca currently connects Collblanc with the ZAL – Riu Vell stop. According to current plans, this line will extend further south and end at the Pratenc station, located at Barcelona-El Prat airport.
This 2025 Barcelona will start or continue half a dozen works that will completely change the face of the city
this 2025 Barcelona will start or continue a series of works that will deeply modify the city
From the continuation of the works in Las Ramblas to the beginning
of the works of reform of the MACBA and the plaça dels Àngels
We leave you here the most outstanding works of 2025 so that you know what the city will look like at the end of this year.
The Central Tower of the Sagrada Familia, the tallest tower of the basilica, will finally culminate its construction this 2025 to become the second tallest building in the city. The tower will reach 172.5 meters in height, only one meter lower than the mountain of Montjuic, as Gaudí wanted, so that no human-made building would surpass the natural work of God.
The construction will be crowned by a 200-ton ceramic and glass cross, 17 meters high and 13.5 meters wide, which will shine day and night. This cross will function as a lookout for 11 people, offering panoramic views of the city and modifying the traditional Barcelona skyline.
By 2025 , the other half of the park will be completed and the social floors of the square will be finished, practically completing the great urban park that has been planned and under construction for so many years.
Adjustments to the tramway route on the south side and resolving the north façade on Consell de Cent will remain pending.
The works on the Ramblas will continue to extend from the height of the Mercat de la Boqueria to the Rambla de Canaletes. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane and pedestrian and green spaces will be expanded. During these works, the flower vendors’ stops will be temporarily moved to Plaça Catalunya, leaving a striking image that is sure to be curious to see.
This year, work will also begin from Felip II street to Fabra i Puig to transform this “urban highway” into a more pedestrian and cyclist friendly road, reducing the number of traffic lanes. The intention of the entire project is to remodel the area to make the Meridiana entrance to Barcelona more like an urban street than a city road.
For the Ferrocarrils connection on L8 between Plaça Espanya and Gràcia, one of the major underground transport works being carried out in the city, sections will have to be closed to surface traffic:
The Raval will live a certainly historical episode: the disappearance of skaters from MACBA. Plaça dels Àngels will undergo a deep reform that will involve several modifications. The MACBA museum will be enlarged, the expected CAP of the Raval Nord will be built, new green spaces and community uses will be incorporated and the space for skaters will be reduced, in one of the most controversial measures of this reform.
Locals and visitors to Barcelona interested in the Spanish Civil War
now have access to a fourth bomb shelter in the Catalan capital
opened its doors to visitors with guided tours over the weekend
The new site is the fourth to be regularly accessible under the streets of Barcelona: the 307 raid shelter
and the Plaça de la Revolució raid shelter
Access is scheduled for Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings, with tours lasting about one hour and costing €3, with reservations available to make online
when renovation work began at the Berenguer de Palou building
The building is commonly known as the Torre de la Sagrera
The city council said in a written statement that the shelter was found "excellently preserved." Experts found several items
Electrical cables and original light bulbs were also found inside the tunnels
visitors will see paintings for children and handwritten messages on the walls
including times and prices for those who built the raid shelter
In addition to the main entrance in the Torre de la Sagrera building
a second blocked access was found at the crossing of Carrer de Berenguer de Palou and Carrer de Clara Zetkin
Officials were unaware of this shelter as it was not part of the Defense Raid Shelters Service
Although it was initially intended to house members of the Ateneu Cultural de la Sagrera school
the educational center was never built as members of the Communist trade union
Bomb shelter users were locals and workers of the neighboring collectivized factory
The prestigious British university Imperial College London hosts an exhibition on Barcelona's air raid shelters called 'The role of engineering in times of war
The exhibition runs from January 10 to February 28 and is based on photographs of air-raid shelters built in Barcelona during the Civil War.
Coordinated by Anna Riera, professor of History of Science at Imperial College London, the exhibition is backed by the Barcelona City Council and the Cervantes Institute.

High-speed trains will pass through Barcelona's new La Sagrera station towards the end of 2024, according to the head of the works, Alberto Alcañiz, on Thursday.
This will, however, be done in phases, meaning not mean not all the tracks will be in operation and the trains will not stop there by that point. It's scheduled that all high-speed trains will pass through the station by early 2026.
Construction of the eight high-speed tracks is one of the "most significant" stages of the works and is being carried out in phases with the aim of "making it compatible" with the passage of trains.
The works on the new infrastructure are progressing according to plan and are around 70% complete.
Last year, €136 million was invested in infrastructure works at La Sagrera, and this year the figure is expected to drop to €120 million. However, it is still unknown when everything will be operational for passengers.
Spain's transport ministry expects around 50 million passengers per year, as it is a "large scale" operation that will "bring people and neighborhoods closer," transport minister Raquel Sánchez said at a visit to the site in May 2022.
Currently, the roof of the station is being constructed, which is one of the "most complex" phases of the works as Barcelona's largest urban park will be built on top of the station.
Alcañiz said the complication of these works comes from the dimensions involved, with modules up to 16 meters, and the weight of the machines. The park will stretch over 50,400m2 above the train station, a space equivalent to five blocks in the Eixample district of the city.
The structure of the roof will be designed in such a way that at some points natural light will pass through to illuminate tracks and platforms.
The "big goal" of the La Sagrera station is ultimately to reduce traffic flow in the Sants station, according to Alcañiz. He explained that with the liberalization of the railway sector and the entry of new operators in the high-speed market, the capacity of Sants is at its limit.
With the launch of La Sagrera, which will also feature a logistics center and train maintenance area, these problems will "disappear."
It's predicted that the two stations will be connected in a 7-minute journey by train.
La Sagrera train station has been one of the most controversial infrastructure projects in the Catalan capital. Works had been stopped for several years, resulting in several complaints from locals.
One major sticking point is the project's cost, which has overrun the original estimate by six times, but which the courts dismissed as being due to unforeseen events and emergencies.
However, since July 2019, construction has sped up and has now reached 70% completion.
Data center would span 10,600 sqm and between 12 and 15MW
Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat of Catalonia are exploring building a data center in a basement in the La Sagrera area of Barcelona
The Government Commission of Barcelona City Council has approved the agreement to look into the possibility of a data center
which would span around 10,600 sqm (114,097 sq ft) and have a power capacity between 12-15MW
The site planned for the data center resides beneath a soccer field
The infrastructure needed for the data center is already built
a heating and cooling network that runs under the city streets in Barcelona
would be able to assist with efficient energy management
the data center could play a key role in the project to land an underwater telecommunications cable from the eastern Mediterranean in the Besòs area
Developing the data center is not anticipated to delay any works or deadlines of different infrastructure and equipment in the area
the data center would reserve around 20 percent of its capacity for the two public administrations exploring its potential
with two percent for Barcelona City Council
and 18 percent for the Generalitat of Catalonia
The project notes the relevance of the European cloud strategy that aims to ensure companies and public authorities have access to secure
and interoperable cloud infrastructures and services
thousands of nodes such as the basement data center are planned to be deployed across the continent
The city council and Generalitat are giving themselves a year to carry out the mandatory analyses regarding the potential of the project

The city’s fourth visitable air-raid shelter
which stands out for its fine conservation and the use local people and workers made of it in the Civil War
is open to small groups on Fridays and Saturdays
An estimated 1,400 air-raid shelters were built in Barcelona from 1937. With the opening of the Torre de la Sagrera shelter in the district of Sant Andreu
there are now four open to visitors in the city (shelter 307
the shelter below Plaça de la Revolució and this one at the Torre de la Sagrera)
during some renovation and extension work on the building of the Torre de la Sagrera to turn it into a neighbourhood centre
when the construction was found in a fine state of conservation
with visitors able to see elements and structures conserved intact since 1937
drawings and writing on the walls and electric cabling and porcelain resistors
as well as a couple of original light bulbs
Managed by the Federació Torre de la Sagrera, guided tours for members of the public are to be conducted on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings in groups of up to five people
and on Friday morning for schools (secondary and sixth form)
The Torre de la Sagrera air-raid shelter was built privately and ended up being used by local people and workers in the neighbourhood working in nearby industries
The initiative may have been the result of the influence and pressure of the collective company of United Shoe Machinery
housed in the building and not on the census
meaning that it had no number on the list of air-raid shelters of the Anti-Aircraft Passive Defence Service or the Defence Board of the Generalitat (1938)
The construction dossier for the shelter indicates that it was intended to protect users at a school linked to the Ateneu Cultural de la Sagrera
but that the school project was never executed as the property was occupied by members of the CNT-FAI in 1936
The direct entrance to the shelter from inside the building was justified by the activity inside
whether as a school or as a political and cultural entity
The museum project for the shelter aims to highlight the space and its context
with sounds and graphic elements for a more immersive experience during the tour
and emphasise the social character it had during the Spanish Civil War
held on June 22 at the Real Fábrica de Tapices in Madrid
ACCIONA received an award for the “Sagrera High-Speed Central Station (Barcelona)” project
which it is carrying out in a joint venture with Dragados
The award in the Urban Works category was collected by Roberto Carballo
Director of AMISA’s Railway Division and of ACCIONA’s Construction Business Works Execution Support and Equipment Management Unit
engineer in the company’s Railway Division Technical Office
The station is located between the Bac de Roda and the Treball bridges in Barcelona
which is being carried out by a consortium including ACCIONA
conventional track (more than four kilometers in total)
The construction of the station represents an ambitious construction challenge due to its structural complexity and the construction process
which envisages partial operation of the railway lines during the construction phase
It is a semi-buried building with a surface area of 260,000 m2 distributed over three levels
The upper level will be a walkable green roof that will serve as a meeting point for the neighborhoods of Sant Martí and Sagrera
La Sagrera-TAV station will thus become a major intermodal hub designed to handle more than 100 million people a year
recognize the quality and innovative efforts of Spanish construction and engineering companies in the design and execution of major projects worldwide
thanking them for their work as bearers of the value of the “Spain Brand”

we explain what works will be carried out in Barcelona this September and their effects on traffic
Barcelona has its charm although it is under construction
the new tramway stops or the arrival of the AVE to La Sagrera are moments of traffic chaos but that will give us a better communicated and more sustainable city.
Therefore, and as we know that the start of the course can be a bit chaotic, we explain what are the works that are underway this september so that you take it into account before moving around the city
The union of the streetcars TramBesòs and TramBaixwill connect nine municipalities and
although at the moment there is still time to complete the 4 kilometers of track missing between Glòries and Francesc Macià
it is expected to start running in autumn between Glòries and Verdaguer
Tram users will gain 3 new stations: Monumental
The tests of this section have begun this summer
the new line will soon be opened to the public
there is still no definite date for the completion of the works that will reach Frances Macià

Every Barcelonian who has taken the car the last few months has suffered the traffic jams caused by the works to cover the Ronda de Dalt
the stretch from exit five to exit six has been covered and one of the three lanes of traffic in both directions has been restricted
the works will continue in the Llobregat direction
350 meters more will be added to the almost 200 already completed
These covering works are expected to be completed in 2027 and the new space will be considered a tunnel
which is why emergency exits will also be installed
La Sagrera
it is going at a good pace and it is expected that the first non-stop trains can start passing soon
When the project is completed, the la Sagrera station will be an intermodal connection point
since in the same station we can find high-speed trains
it will be one of the largest stations of its kind in Europe
On the other hand, the works are part of a larger project in which a linear park of 4km is planned
The aim of this project is to put an end to these barriers that separate Sants from its station
Although there is still a long way to go before we can see this new station
one of the first phases of the project has already been completed
moving traffic so that Adif can begin work on the concourse at Plaça dels Països Catalans
as traffic lanes have been closed and others have changed direction
Until now, in La Rambla de Barcelona coexisted the busy traffic of the city
and the hundreds of passers-by walking around
The works on La Rambla are expected to be finished in 2027. So we still have three years of seeing asphalt machines and operators on either side. The end result will be a uniform Rambla, where cars will fit, but fewer, and where the central pedestrian lane will occupy most of the space.
Spanish transport ministry expects 50 million annual passengers once transport hub is operational
ACN | Barcelona
One of the biggest construction projects in Barcelona is closer to completion
as announced by Spanish transport minister Raquel Sánchez on Monday during a visit to the works
€540 million out of the budgeted €920 million have been spent on several parts to construct a hub for trains and transport in the city. La Sagrera will be home to high-speed trains
The ministry expects around 50 million passengers per year
as it is a "large scale" operation that will "bring people and neighborhoods closer," Raquel Sánchez said.
"We will connect the different transport networks: buses
and high-speed in a hub that will serve 50 million annual passengers," Sánchez added.
The construction works in La Sagrera also give a new meaning to the Sant Andreu Comtal train station
According to the Spanish rail infrastructure administrator
the new station will start working in the second semester of 2022.
the R1 Rodalies line trains have driven through La Sagrera despite not stopping there.
The next step is to start moving the rails used by the Granollers’ lines which would take up to 12 weeks of work
They are expected to start in the last week of August.
La Sagrera train station has been one of the most controversial infrastructures in the Catalan capital
resulting in several complaints from locals.
One major sticking point is the project's cost
which has overrun the original estimate by six times
but which the courts dismissed as being due to unforeseen events and emergencies
construction has sped up and reached 60% completion.
a journalist ironically asked during a press conference if the Sagrada Família basilica would be finished before the train station.
The T-Mobilitat transport card is the future of Catalonia’s transportation infrastructure
Some cities already have had a similar system in place for some years now
The card allows you to travel with a tap-and-go system and will fully rolled out
T-Mobilitat will charge users by kilometer
instead of by area as in the current system.
the system has overrun its initial budget and has seen several problems which have postponed the launch date by years
For the moment the cost has been €93.6 million
The first T-Mobilitat contract between administrations was signed in 2014
the Catalan government expects to have it up and running around the territory before the end of 2024.
Representing Ferrovial Agroman during the visit were Juan Lozano

a logistics area will be built for the maintenance of high-speed trains
equipped with 5 platforms of variable length
along with the infrastructure necessary to house a bus parking area
Once the railway corridor has been reorganized
an urban development project will be undertaken with regard to the area affected by the works in such a way that both sides of the city of Barcelona that are currently separated by the corridor will be connected
“These construction works are of great importance for the city of Barcelona especially for the districts of Sant Martí and Sant Andreu
the railway corridors represent a huge scar that divides the neighbourhoods of Sant Martí and La Sagrera
the new station will increase the limited capacity of the current Sants Station” according to Pablo Ayala

The works at the future La Sagrera station continue as estimated and are progressing at a good pace
it is expected that high-speed trains will be able to start running through the tunnel by the end of 2024
as it will be used mainly for the crossing to Girona
as it will be necessary to wait until late 2025 or early 2026 for all infrastructures and tracks to be fully operational
The construction of La Sagrera station is a complex project and is currently in the construction phase of the roof slab
This stage is considered the most complex of the entire infrastructure
since the largest urban park in Barcelona will be installed on this slab
The track cover will have to support the weight of the earth required for the creation of this park
La Sagrera station will become a major intermodal interchange
With a surface area of 260,000 square meters distributed over three levels
this half-buried building will be a neuralgic point on the Besòs side of Barcelona
The development of La Sagrera station began in 2010 with the aim of burying the tracks and giving rise to a new urban development in the La Sagrera neighborhood
This project includes the construction of housing and the Parc del Camí Comtal
which will contribute to revitalize the area and improve the quality of life of the residents
In addition to the high-speed train station with connections to the Rodalies network and the metro
an intercity bus station with access to the Barcelona ring roads and freeways will also be built
This will provide greater connectivity and facilitate travel in and out of the city
Work on La Sagrera station is progressing well and high-speed trains are expected to pass through the tunnel by the end of 2024
According to the Railway Infrastructure Administrator
more than two thirds of the work (around 70% of the work) has been completed so far
This infrastructure will be an important intermodal hub and will contribute to the urban development of the La Sagrera neighborhood
providing new mobility opportunities and improving the quality of life of citizens
The future Sagrera station will bring important benefits for mobility in the Catalan capital
Rodalies commuter trains, metro, buses, and even high-speed trains will all stop at Barcelona's Sagrera station in the future
The infrastructure is still under construction but Adif
the Spanish rail infrastructure administrator
believes that the works are now progressing faster than first expected
Works on the train station are currently altering the R2 and R11 Rodalies commuter train routes, a job that is affecting thousands of commuters daily since September
these construction works are going faster than first expected as the company already has over 60% of the work done.
the R2 and R11 train lines will not return to full normality until December 11
we cannot start using the infrastructure the next day
as we have to prove it is safe and reliable
once works have finished," Alberto Alcañiz
Adif's responsible technician supervising the 'La Sagrera' project told journalists on Tuesday
works are aimed at laying the tracks for the Barcelona-Granollers-Girona line by the end of the year as well as opening the new Sant Andreu Comtal station
4.3km of tracks will cross the La Sagrera station
The majority of remaining works will be completed in the second half of November
a third phase will start focused on linking the new tracks with the current ones in Barcelona's Sant Andreu Comtal train station.
experts will finalize reports and perform test to guarantee the safety of the infrastructure
Service disruptions on Rodalies train lines, which are free from September to December
have been a longstanding complaint in Catalonia.
On September 9, 80,000 commuters were affected by a telecommunications breakdown that halted all lines except high-speed trains entirely between 5 am and 8 am.
Almost a fifth of commuters use the three lines on an average workday.
Over 41,400 commuters use the R1 on weekdays, with around 30,400 taking it on weekends, while the R2N and R11 see almost 31,600 on weekdays and 21,200 on Saturdays and Sundays.
Hispano Suiza is almost ready to launch the next evolution of its Carmen electric hypercar
which the Spanish marque last week announced will be known as the Carmen Sagrera
The car will launch next year to mark the 120th anniversary of the founding of Hispano Suiza
and its name is also a nod to the La Sagrera district of Barcelona
The original Hispano Suiza ceased building cars in 1946
but the company was revived late last decade by Miguel Suqué Mateu
one of the co-founders of the original company
The modern company's first product was revealed in 2019 in the form of the Carmen, an electric hypercar boasting carbon-fiber construction and a peak output of 1,000 hp. A more hardcore version known as the Carmen Boulogne was launched in 2020
boasting an extra 100 hp and upgrades aimed at improving performance on the racetrack
The Carmen Sagrera is expected to deliver a boost in range
It will benefit from a more efficient battery with a capacity of 103 kwh
The Carmen was launched with a 80-kwh battery that Hispano Suiza has estimated at around 250 miles of range
said the Carmen Sagrera will also lay the foundation for a new design strategy the brand will follow in the coming years
Hispano Suiza hasn't said how many examples will be built, but production of the earlier Carmens was extremely limited. Just 14 examples of the original Carmen were built, plus five of the Carmen Boulogne. One of those cars was delivered last year to Michael Fux
a car collector and CEO and founder of mattress company Comfort Revolution
We tell you how is the future of the metro in Barcelona and all the stops that are projected in the different lines
That the Barcelona metro has big plans for the future is no secret. From a 50-kilometer-long line to the new Sagrera interchange that will revolutionize mobility in the city
the metro network is pending many other ways to grow
but all of them options that allow us to imagine the metro of the future
we show you here all the new stops that will have the subway of tomorrow
so you can go projecting the appearance of Barcelona in a few years
It’s been more than two decades since the Pla Director d’Infraestructures (PDI)
designed by the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM)
outlined what the metro of the future would be like
And although the first plans were very ambitious (with many new features before 2010)
crises or unforeseen events have shown that this was not possible
Three Rodalies train lines – R1, R2N, and R11 – will be affected by service disruptions from September 17 to December 10 as construction on the new Sagrera station in Barcelona enters its "most complex" phase
Spain's transport ministry warned on Monday
The works in the period will be aimed at laying the definitive tracks for the Barcelona-Granollers-Girona line by the end of the year as well as opening the new Sant Andreu Comtal station
"It would be impossible to do this construction without service disruptions and affecting users," Spanish infrastructure official Xavier Flores said
Almost a fifth of commuters use the three three lines on an average workday
said it was "aware" of how important the three lines were to the rail network in Catalonia
and would be working on an "alternative transport plan" that will be able to be found online on September 13
Over 41,400 commuters use the R1 on weekdays
while the R2N and R11 see almost 31,600 on weekdays and 21,200 on Saturdays and Sundays
The R2N and R11 will be the most affected lines over this three-month period
these trains will stop at Montcada i Reixac
where commuters will have to take a bus to Sagrera station
from where they will have to take a different line to get to their destination
the trains will stop at Sant Andreu Comtal and the R11 will stop at every station until Granollers Centre
passengers traveling to the Barcelona city center will have to take the metro
There will also be a bus service to Sagrera station
Commuters traveling from Granollers will be able to take the bus to Sagrera in the morning and evening on weekdays
the new trains will depart and end up at Montcada i Reixac
where there will also be a complementary bus service
The city of Barcelona is in the midst of a transformation process with the construction of the largest train station in Catalonia: the future Sagrera station
Construction of this project began more than 15 years ago
The goal is to become an intermodal connection hub capable of integrating metro
this station will be a crucial component of the planned new Barcelona
which seeks to improve mobility and connectivity within the city and beyond its boundaries
the first high-speed trains will transit through the station
Although an official opening date has not yet been set
important details about the future station are known
With a capacity to accommodate 100 million passengers per year in an area of more than 250,000 square meters
the station will be structured on three levels
The high-speed and bus areas will be located on the upper level
while the Rodalies and metro areas will be located on the lower level
On the intermediate level there will be a lobby with commercial areas and direct access to the different means of transportation
The Sagrera station will not only benefit Barcelona’s residents and visitors
but will also help to relieve congestion at Sants station
By distributing the flow of travelers more evenly in different areas of the city
it is expected to improve the efficiency and comfort of Barcelona’s public transport
the project includes the creation of an extensive green linear park of more than four kilometers on the old train tracks
This urban park will be a space for recreation and leisure for the inhabitants of the Sant Andreu-Sagrera and Sant Martí neighborhoods
The Sagrera station represents an important step in the urban development and modernization of public transport in Barcelona
reaffirming the city’s commitment to sustainable mobility and improving the travel experience for its citizens and visitors
The future La Sagrera station is preparing to receive high-speed trains at the end of 2024
although they will not stop until the end of 2025
when the entire infrastructure will be fully operational
only the infrastructure for the crossing to Girona will be used
and not all the tracks will be operational until late 2025 or early 2026

Barcelona
Museum art and urban art at first seem like opposing concepts
since urban art is designed to be in the city streets and not to be classified within the parameters of a museum institution
But Bostik Murals – the first urban art museum in Barcelona – does away with those ideas
Behind the project is Difuser's Xavier Ballaz
who is also responsible for the Open Walls Barcelona festival and who thought up Bostik Murals to be a place of creation and reflection on urban art
'We went to Nau Bostik looking for a site for Open Walls and
seeing the spaces and the possibilities that it gave us
this new project came up,' explains Ballaz
'But they are totally independent from one another.' We're not talking about painted walls torn from streets and buildings
as happened to works by English graffiti artist Banksy
who saw his pieces auctioned without his consent and without receiving a penny
more than 20 artists have given life to the exterior spaces of Nau Bostik
'It's a site that's still underexploited,' says Ballaz
'and in the future we hope to be able to add one of the other buildings when they're not being used.' Things have changed a lot in recent years
Barcelona has gone from the prohibition and persecution of artists who painted in the streets to a time of expansion
both in the presence of graffiti art in the city and in major events with artists dedicated to painting murals
what's on offer at Bostik Murals is similar to that of a conventional museum
'We commission artists and bring in relevant muralists whether they're local
and more.In addition to featuring works by renowned muralists
Bostik Murals offer their walls to students and artists from other disciplines who want to try their hand at murals
'activities like those of other museums will be offered; that is
presentations and workshops.' He doesn't want the 'urban' concept to make anyone feel this is any less of a museum
'We will decide what is to be conserved and what is not,' says Ballaz
'These works will have more visibility and continuity than other murals around the city
It can be really frustrating to go to a site where you want to see a certain work to find it's no longer there because it's been painted over
That won't happen here: you'll come to Bostik Murals knowing what you'll see
All the current information will be on our website.'

although given how little we’ve heard from the company in the last few years you’d be forgiven for completely forgetting the first one
A quick recap, then. It was back in 2019 when the first Carmen was first unveiled as a two-seat, 1,005bhp hyper-GT. That was at the Geneva Motor Show, and there was serious beef as another company calling itself Hispano Suiza rocked up with a 1,085bhp twin-turbo V10 supercar
But the EV Hispano Suiza project ploughed on, and in 2020 we saw the lightweight 1,098bhp Carmen Boulogne. Just five of those were planned for production, and one was actually delivered in 2022. It was extremely purple.
And now we’re about to get the Carmen Sagrera. Named after the La Sagrera district of Barcelona where the original Hispano Suiza established its first large factory in 1907, it’ll be unveiled in mid 2024 and will get a larger 103kWh battery for improved range. The previous Carmen Boulogne apparently managed around 250 miles from its 80kWh battery.
And from the teaser images you can see above we know that the Sagrera will be getting a rather massive carbon fibre rear wing. That’s about it on the info front for now though, so we’ll report back with more when we have it. And who knows, we might actually get to drive one at some point…

Commuters in northeastern areas of Barcelona's metropolitan area and in Girona saw the end to three months of disruptions on the R2 North and R11 Rodalies train lines on Monday
when the works affecting the route came to a close
the first southbound R2N train crossed the brand new train tracks in La Sagrera that have been in the making since September – this was a key step in the construction of the new station in La Sagrera
which is to be Barcelona's main one when it is finished
Works began over 10 years ago, but after years of delay, it is now progressing quicker and it was 60% complete in May this year – yet no updated completion date has been released
The new train tracks mean that services on the R2N and R11 lines already pass through the future station
although they will not stop as works are still underway – last year
a similar procedure with disruptions at the R1 line was undertaken so that trains could switch from their old route to the new one crossing La Sagrera
Barcelona mayor Ada Colau celebrated the opening of the new tracks and the end to the disruptions in the line
and hailed the advancement as a "magnificent first step toward our future train network."
the mayor criticizes the slow pace of progress in the works
and urged for "more speed" in the investment and execution of works that have been promised for decades
said that the Spanish government "had never executed so much" investment in railways in Catalonia
The Socialist minister said that the administration has begun projects worth €2.224 billion in the past two years - 35% of what was planned - as part of the Rodalies plan which lays out a roadmap until 2030
criticizes that "the citizens of Catalonia who use the service every day were not a priority" for Spain
Fernández views the slow pace of progress as "intolerable," while he also took the opportunity to again demand that Spain hand over control of the commuter rail network to Catalan authorities.
Authorities have also used the works to inaugurate a new train station in Sant Andreu
and the oldest standing in both Catalonia and across Spain until December 2
The old Sant Andreu Comtal station now also has a shorter name
and will be used by both R2N and R11 trains
the Maçanet-Massanes to Barcelona airport line through Granollers
After disruptions that began on September 17
4.3km of tracks have been moved and now cross the La Sagrera station
In the meantime, until Monday trains going to the Catalan capital had to end their routes in Sant Andreu Comtal old station, where commuters then had to take the metro or bus to complete their journey to central Barcelona.
The R2N and R11 have almost 31,600 passengers on weekdays and 21,200 on Saturdays and Sundays.
La Sagrera train station has been one of the most controversial infrastructures in the Catalan capital. Works began in 2010 and were stopped from 2015 to 2018, resulting in several complaints from locals.
La Sagrera will be home to high-speed trains, commuter trains, metro, and several bus lines.
Projects are now being drafted to define the architecture
facilities and urban design for the station and its surroundings in La Sagrera
The companies contracted have two years to develop their proposal
the established starting point being a modern open-plan design for the whole area
The facilities and the urban surroundings for the future high-speed rail station in La Sagrera will blend in with the street layout
with a canopy and a park to foster community life
The projects to be defined in the design will complement the work currently being carried out on the rail infrastructure
Barcelona City Council and a committee of experts
The projects will be drafted by the joint venture between Ayesa Enginyeria i Arquitectura
Work is also under way to recondition the streets and areas surrounding the La Sagrera – Marina Clotet library
This work aims to add vitality and reorganise a space which has been heavily affected by the construction work on the future station
with improved mobility for pedestrians and emergency vehicles and the introduction of new areas for people to spend time in
a Barcelona subway stop officially changed its name
Vall d’Hebron station is now called Vall d’Hebron – Sant Genís
according to the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM)
The modification was carried out after the recommendations of the Nomenclature Commission
which brings together administrations and transport operators
and with the advice of the Institute of Catalan Studies
The name change aims to “give meaning to the entire public rail transport network as an integrated system”
as well as to “adapt the name of the station to the reality of the place where they are located”
The neighbors of the area had asked to include the part of Sant Genís in the name of the Vall d’Hebron stop
is a sign of the commitment of the Barcelona authorities to improve the user experience on public transport
The integrated public rail transport system is crucial to the city’s mobility
Changes like this help users to better orient themselves and feel more comfortable using the service
In addition to the renaming of the Vall d’Hebron stop
progress has also been made on the extension of L4 of the Barcelona Metro between La Pau and La Sagrera stations
the extension will involve an investment of 375 million euros and will have three new stations: Santander
The Barcelona Metro L4 extension project is an important step in the improvement of the city’s public transport system
The addition of three new stations on L4 will allow users to reach more destinations and reduce travel time on certain routes
This may be especially beneficial for people living in less-traveled areas of the city
who may find it more difficult to reach their destination using existing public transportation
The renaming of the Vall d’Hebron metro stop is a small but important change that demonstrates the commitment of the Barcelona authorities to improve the city’s public transport system
the extension of L4 of the Barcelona Metro is an important step in the improvement of the city’s public transport system
These improvements can help make Barcelona’s public transport more comfortable and efficient for users
The extension of L4 of the Barcelona Metro between La Pau and Sagrera stations is a reality that is getting closer and closer
The section will have three new stations: Sagrera
reflecting the identity of its historical neighbourhoods, the sagrera linear park consists of series of micro-parks that are linked together by a common diagonal axis. generously shaded walkways are provided for pedestrians and cyclists, with a number of pause points in the form of fountains and informal seating throughout. the 222,000 m2 project rests on the public transport infrastructure and will offer a dynamic green space for visitors and locals alike.

Costs have been reduced mainly on three aspects. Most of the aesthetic elements will be eliminated. The station’s cover and main hall will be significantly modified. The number of high-speed railways tracks will be reduced from 5 to 4. However, the new project has still some questions unanswered, such as what will happen with the 4.5-kilometre platform covering the rail yard and the park to be build on top of it. In addition, it is not clear which buildings will exactly be developed in the end.
