The Cape Coral Police Department says he victims are recovering from minor gunshot wounds, and are cooperating with law enforcement.
An investigation/forensic analysis is underway.
Cape Coral Police confirmed a shooting off Del Prado Boulevard on Friday night. Christian Lepe says his security team was hired to be there at the time.
Watch the scene as people run and take cover:
The shooting happened at Fuegoz Lounge on Friday night.
"There was a fight inside the other night. They [his workers] kicked em' out and since it's kind of a public parking area and they own 3 units [once the people involved in the fight were outside] they say it's the police's problem," Lepe said.
People shopping in the complex just a day later like Mark Ness say, it's alarming to see this in Cape Coral.
"I saw people running to save their lives, I heard 30 to 50 gunshots on the video on Facebook," he said.
CCPD says there were 2 victims with non-life threatening injuries. Lepe says he thinks there should have been more security hired for the event. He says more security presence could have stopped the shooting from happening.
"It turned into full pandemonium, it [the shooting] was off to the side and people were running all over the place. Obviously when you hear gunshots you take cover and protect the people you were hired to protect," he said.

Lepe House now shelters a garden where pre- and interwar plantings sit happily with impressive new areas
Inside Lepe House hangs a pair of charming portraits of John and Emily Jane Forster (both tending plants)
who acquired the Exbury estate — including Lepe — in 1880
They were followed by their son and daughter-in-law
who were largely responsible for the intriguing garden
which they created during the decades before and after the First World War
Lepe has been managed by their great-granddaughter Emma Page and the work she has carried out to restore and add to the 14-acre garden is a homage to her distinguished predecessors and what they achieved
Lepe enjoys a spectacular position on the Hampshire coast
facing across the Solent to the Isle of Wight and overlooking the mouth of the Beaulieu River
Its story and that of the garden are inextricably bound up with the two great estates a few miles up the Beaulieu river: Palace House
Rachel Forster was the daughter of the 1st Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and Lepe was originally acquired as part of the Exbury estate
the Forsters transformed it into a dower house for Exbury and began creating the garden
Lepe’s position overlooking the beach made both house and garden projects challenging
underpinned by characteristically Edwardian optimism and zest for adventure
the Forsters’ two sons were killed in the First World War
so they sold the Exbury estate to their friend Lionel de Rothschild (who would go on to create the now world-famous garden)
they retained the Lepe property which became their home
The house was further enlarged and development of the garden continued steadily — even during the five years when Harry Forster
by then 1st Lord Forster following a distinguished political career
served as Governor-General of Australia in 1920–25.
The most ambitious addition of the 1920s was the spectacular rock garden created on the broad slope between the house and the beach
the shelter provided by holm oaks and pines
which had been among the Forsters’ earliest planting
allowed for the introduction of more ornamental trees and shrub — notably Exbury hybrid rhododendrons
which Rothschild was breeding with great success and which he was happy to give to his neighbouring friends
the house was requisitioned by the Royal Navy and became part of HMS Mastodon
It was one of the bases from which the D-Day landings were planned and executed and was mentioned by the celebrated novelist Nevil Shute in his wartime classic Requiem for a Wren: ‘Lepe House became full of very secretive naval officers… a construction gang began work to make a hard
sloping concrete platform running down to the water where flat-bottomed landing-craft could beach to refuel and let their ramps down to embark the vehicles or tanks.’
Lepe was returned to the family in 1947 and the Forsters’ daughter
continued to care for the garden until her death in 1983
she has come to understand the key qualities of what was created by her great-grandparents and added to by her grandmother
as well as the considerable challenges of the site — a drought pocket between Southampton and Lymington with poor soil and regular battering from salt-laden gales sweeping up the Solent
Yet there are also times when Lepe’s best qualities can be celebrated
with sun-drenched views across calm azure sea to the Isle of Wight and the Needles in the distance
In the far south-east corner of the garden
the Beaulieu Millennium beacon — which looks like a miniature lighthouse — was put up in 2000
the shore walk takes one through a tunnel of protective holm oaks and pines that leads to the rock garden in front of the house
there are huge clumps of elaeagnus and hebe and a tall screen of griselinia at the far end
all of which clearly thrive in the seaside conditions
Parallel to the shore walk on this side of the house is the columbary walk
which leads to the columbary or dovecote built by the Forsters in 1893
the ground on either side is lit up with clumps of bright-pink Cyclamen coum
The columbary walk forms a protective woodland belt along the large central area of the garden
celebrating a broad walk between Prunus ‘Tai-haku’
Beyond this are the massed rhododendrons that came from Exbury
they are as impressive for their patterns of cinnamon branches as for their various flowers
Among them are other equally imposing trees
such as two magnificent Japanese maples and a large Hoheria sexstylosa
In a style characteristic of the Edwardian and interwar period
the garden balances these more naturally set-out areas with smaller formal
such as the sunken paved garden that sits below the cherry-walk meadow
Bright-pink Lychnis coronaria flowers here in summer
contrasting with the foliage of hostas and purple sage
From the gates that lead away from the paved garden
the azalea walk with massed Japanese azaleas on both sides continues a hint of formality back towards the house
The division between formal and natural is most clearly introduced by the impressive yew-hedged walk that runs right across the garden
both creating a vista and introducing a firm architectural line between the different areas.
Mrs Page is striking the balance between renewal and retention with skill
such as the original Exbury rhododendrons and ‘Tai-haku’ cherries
as well as telling the garden’s story and providing a background for new planting
One major recent project has been the clearing and restoration of the rock garden
which had disappeared under self-seeded trees and undergrowth
will provide the house with the impressive foreground that the Forsters planned.
Across the main drive — built by the navy during the Second World War — an arboretum started by Mrs Page’s grandmother continues to develop with the addition of young paulownia
the Forsters’ paved sunken garden has been restored and the impressive pergola walk that leads off along the shore side of the walled garden has been cleared ready for replanting
an early summer-flowering combination of knautia
One can say with confidence that the Forsters would both recognise their garden and be heartened by the rejuvenation that is taking place

2024 – The women at premium custom canned marketer Maker Wine Company have pretty high standards when they choose their winemaking partners
Serious entrepreneurs with Stanford biz school chops and real-world experience
Kendra Kawala and Zoe Victor gravitate towards winemakers with colorful
Among the first winemakers they recruited was Aptos-based Nicole Walsh of Ser
who has since become a consistent contributor
her Grenache Rosé has been one of their best sellers.
Maker works with small production wineries to develop unique offerings for their constantly changing portfolio of beautifully decorated cans
accessible via their website and through their Wine Club
which they affectionately address as “Can Fam.”
News is that local Monterey favorite Miguel Lepe of Lepe Cellars has joined the canwagon, as it were. Maker just announced a new exotic white blend from Lepe Cellars, available in cans for purchase at makerwine.com
The new Maker wine from Miguel Lepe is an unusual white blend of 46% Albariño
who scored a Gold medal for the first Chardonnay he ever made (a 2014 from the Pelio Vineyard
back in 2016 at the SF Chronicle Wine Competition) is the son of migrant workers who didn’t drink
It wasn’t until he got to college that he discovered the mystical connection of grapes
He transferred to Cal Poly where he earned a degree in viticulture.
who planted and managed the Pelio Vineyard for owners Les and Nini Pelio in the easternmost reach of Carmel Valley until his untimely passing in 2017
His guidance helped Lepe land a job with mega-brand Justin in Paso Robles
giving him some big company perspective.
The contrast between the corporate world of Justin and the small cellar he later worked in with Figge
helped give Lepe the confidence he needed to take the leap and establish his own brand
The Lepe Cellars tasting room is currently in the Winfield Gallery
the exact spot where Figge once had a tasting room for his Figge Cellars brand
It’s also where Sabrine Rodems opened her first tasting room for Scratch
before relocating it to Carmel Valley Village in 2021
“I met the Maker team last summer and we started chatting about creating a fun unique white blend for their can
We met through a mutual friend who put us in contact and she thought I would make a good fit for Maker’s philosophy and vision
Asked if the blend of three varieties that aren’t typically seen performing together was inspired by anything he’d tasted in particular
“I’ve never had a white blend like this before
While researching white varieties, these three stood out to me and I thought they would complement each other so well in a blend by providing complex layers
Each variety was made separately until it was time to can
And the entire Maker team visited me at my tasting room and we did blending trials to see which one we all liked the most.”
Lepe obtained the Albariño from Centennial Vineyard
managed by Steve McIntyre and sourced the Grenache Blanc from the San Lucas Vineyard
“I’m absolutely in love with this blend!” Lepe enthuses
“There is a perfect balance of fresh citrus and tropical fruit intertwined with bright acidity and a beautiful richness that fills the palate
Sipping on this wine just makes me extremely excited to share it with everyone
This was a very fun wine to make and I’m looking forward to continuing my partnership with Maker.”
When friends recently visited the Lepe Cellars tasting room in Carmel after picking up their Caraccioli wine club shipment
it was not available for tasting or sale there
Lepe confirmed that he won’t be selling it in his tasting room
Maker will distribute the cans to their network of retailers
through their website and wine club.

The presentations and discussions at the LEPE Conference revealed that the very qualities experiential learning programs work to instill in their students—commitment
and inclusion—proved invaluable to the programs themselves as they worked to provide quality experiences to students working remotely

Successful experiential learning programs begin by sharing course learning objectives with host organizations
and students to ensure everyone is working toward shared goals
Providing project management and structured problem-solving training for students and mentors can help keep work on track
including advisors in training sessions can strengthen relationships and ensure that all stakeholders share a common language and goals
“hosts have this opportunity to meet and network with one another and find possible synergies among their projects.”
Students should not feel as if they have been thrown into the deep end of the pool. That was a key message from Daniel Sheats, director of experiential learning at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School
“It's more about swim lessons: we're going to start in the shallow end and give them some fundamental tools so that eventually they end up in the deep end feeling much more confident,” he said
Program leaders should choose projects that reflect the academic content of their courses—such as complex problem solving
Patten pointed out that good projects start with good problem statements
Teams should be encouraged to develop problem statements that:
Students need to learn about hosts’ mission and goals
Hosts need help identifying and scoping suitable projects
Advisors and mentors need to track progress
Good communication is central to all of these tasks
Working virtually during the pandemic amplified the need for clear
a lecturer in global economics and management and Action Learning mentor at MIT Sloan
more frequent team check-ins helped him keep on top of numerous projects
“I would gear all of my check-ins with students on how are we optimizing your learning
both personally and professionally,” he said
Adding brief check-ins with individuals as well as groups enabled people to support each other through stressful pandemic moments and proved especially helpful for students who were shy or reluctant to speak publicly
Platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Slack
can be useful tools for enabling these check-ins
said she found Calendly particularly helpful
“Not only does it simplify coordination,” she said
but “that tool really enables more contact and collaboration.”
it’s equally important to be willing to adjust those expectations as obstacles arise
Running experiential learning programs during a global pandemic forced everyone to pivot
MIT D-Lab
was faced with how to teach students about the challenges of global poverty without any onsite component
D-Lab—whose name reflects the lab’s focus on development through dialogue
and dissemination—challenged students to carry their water in from outside faucets
to mimic the experience of those who had to haul water during a pre-pandemic trip to El Salvador
“We had them go through these different types of experiences to think about what it's like to not have running water,” said Libby Hsu
associate director of academics and lecturer at D-Lab
a D-Lab team worked virtually with locals in Colombia to develop quinoa harvesting equipment repurposed from agricultural equipment that didn’t fit their needs
The students brought their technology and know-how to provide the design
“We learn when experience runs counter to our expectations.”
If students see mistakes not solely as regretful errors
that can embolden them to take risks and fail
and trust more fully in their teammates and advisors
Kerry Laufer, deputy director of the Dartmouth-American University of Kuwait Program
said her program specifically includes emotion as a standard of best practices
“The role of emotion and its impact on learning is one that we tend to neglect,” she said
“We try to build some intentionality into how we address the issue of emotions and use them as catalysts for learning in our courses.”
One way to do this, said Shannon McKeen, executive director for strategic engagement for the Renaissance Computing Institute at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill
is to incorporate prompts about emotions into feedback and reflection activities
LEPE Conference presenters underscored that even successful experiential learning projects are works-in-progress
program leaders learn from experience and collecting feedback from students and hosts—both during and after the project—can help ensure continuous improvement
The mission of the MIT Sloan School of Management is to develop principled
innovative leaders who improve the world and to generate ideas that advance management practice

Mauro adores the Pentax 67 and uses it for lots of his work. He used to shoot 35mm
Mauro builds his own props for the set with woodworking tools
you see inspiration from cinema and pastel palettes
“I tend to base my photos on past experiences: mistakes
“I guess these things affect people in a variety of ways
Some people find it really easy to move on
these have a lasting impact.” These days
Mauro tries to recreate scenes from his past and present in a fictional linear narrative
it’s a way to take control of the thoughts that go through his head
“It’s very therapeutic if that makes any sense.”
His photos are all done on film — which lends itself to the authenticity we don’t see much these days in digital
He’s inspired by abstract painters like O’Keeffe and Joan Mitchell
Planning the shoots out is a hugely important thing for Mauro
He doesn’t like leaving things to chance
he’ll plan a shoot a few weeks ahead because he wants to be fully in control
“The model is also key since she’s in charge of transmitting the emotion of what’s taking place
no matter how weird the set might be,” he tells us.” All this is part of Mauro’s healing process
he thinks that photographers who use AI are totally fine
“There shouldn’t be rules to this
we all should be able to express ourselves in any way we see fit.”
Written by Danner Doud-Martin and David Richardson
Recently Danner Doud-Martin had the privilege of representing the IBD program and Berkeley Haas at the annual Leaders of Experiential Project-Based Education (LEPE) conference, hosted this year by the MIT Sloan School of Management
held virtually for the second year due to COVID-19 travel restrictions
is an opportunity to connect and converse with colleagues from peer universities who operate experiential and action based learning courses and programs
This year the LEPE conference planners and MIT Sloan put together an inspiring group of speakers and presentations
some of which we have highlighted below in takeaways from the conference:
rethought how to teach an international action based course without the in-person hands-on work that previous students experienced in pre-pandemic years
Faculty and staff built virtual spaces for IBD student teams to form relationships with their colleagues and clients
Many university programs utilized technology as well to create an interactive classroom space
some programs used online learning platforms to encourage student conversations around cultural awareness
Other programs leaned heavily on virtual team building activities such as cultural cooking demonstrations and guest presentations to spotlight the cultural aspects of global host organizations and settings
The shifting state of student travel during the global pandemic was on the minds of all LEPE conference participants
How can students obtain on-the-ground experience safely with their project clients
some experiential learning programs turned to focus on domestic only projects
while other programs worked more closely with their campus risk departments to plan for and manage select international travel
capitalizing on their recent remote project delivery successes; others decided to plan for student travel
but to shorten the in-person and on-the-ground project time in order to mitigate risks
While there is no crystal ball for any of us
the overall sentiment expressed at the LEPE conference was that experiential/action based learning is the future of higher education
an expression that was overheard several times during the conference was
“learning must be faster than the rate of change.”
With that in mind…as faculty and staff of experiential learning courses and programs
we can strive to take up the same skills that we teach our students
we can work through the ambiguity and uncertainty of planning future student travel for our long running project based course
We can certainly remind ourselves to embrace emotion as an essential quality of effective business leaders
And we can continue to collaborate with our peers at other universities and programs
We are grateful to MIT Sloan and the participants at the LEPE 2021 Conference for sharing this past year’s challenges
All of us in IBD look forward to meeting our peer universities again in 2022 at the next LEPE Conference

The Los Angeles Police Department said Lepe was killed by 26-year-old Gerry Zaragoza
who fatally shot his father and brother at a Canoga Park home before heading to the gas station and shooting Lepe and another man
They were both transported to a hospital where Lepe was pronounced dead
Family said Lepe went by the nickname “Susie.”
told KTLA that Zaragoza was obsessed with the woman
and that he had been harassing her for over a year
William Hayes perviously said Zaragoza knew both victims and said Lepe had a relationship or was acquainted with the suspect
Susie Lepe’s brother said he couldn’t believe what had happened when he found out
“It was probably the most horrible moment of my life,” he said as he recalled his mother crying and pleading with God when she found out about his sister’s killing

Eduardo Lepe operated Lepe’s Taqueria and coached youth basketball and baseball
beloved owner of Lepe's Taqueria in Santa Rosa
died Sunday at UCSF Hospital due to complications from the coronavirus
The Santa Rosa native had been in a medically-induced coma since early July
according to family members who were unable to be with him when he died due to public health protocols
The family declined to discuss Lepe’s vaccination status or health issues
His many friends and family members remember him as a coach
jokester and father who loved being around people and providing a gathering place for his friends and large family
“He just loved talking and being with people
He just lit up the room every time he walked in,” Marco Lepe said of the Bennett Valley taqueria his brother operated for 26 years
Lepe was a passionate sports lover who played soccer at El Molino High School
Rincon Valley little league baseball teams and his son Mateo’s traveling baseball and fall ball teams
“I've never met someone with such a passion and dedication to make kids great ballplayers and give great life lessons about teamwork,” said Nick Denicke
Frequently Lepe would purchase equipment for the team and for players who could not afford shoes and uniforms
“Shoes would just magically appear,” Denicke said
He recalled a time when Lepe paid for an older couple's restaurant tab on his way back from a catering event in the Bay Area when he overheard that they made a treat out of visiting a local restaurant each month with their Social Security check
Denicke also said that Lepe frequently fed emergency first responders and those in need
Lepe drove through flames into Santa Rosa’s Fountaingrove neighborhood where a friend’s grandmother was trapped
The story was retold by several of his friends
“There are a million stories like that about Eddie
There was such generosity with his time and everything he had,” Denicke said
He was the unofficial mayor of Santa Rosa.”
said that Lepe was a person who befriended people
and he would give you the shirt off his back,” Cannon said
he said that Lepe simply looked at people and saw their goodness
From his golfing friends at the Fountaingrove Club to the dishwashers at his restaurant
Cannon said he saw what people had to give and what they were
A tribute to Lepe is being planned by the Rincon Valley little league to honor his contribution to the program
I don't know how many burritos his restaurant donated
Daughter Bella Lepe said her father coached many of her brother Mateo’s traveling sports teams
she said her brother looked forward to having his dad attend his football games this year
She also said her dad loved to treat himself to a pedicure every other week
He also enjoyed eating ice cream at his best friend Salvador Cruz’s ice cream shop
Childhood friend Ylisa Sanford said she had known Lepe since junior high school
playing sports together and raising similarly-aged children
When he opened his first taqueria in Fairfield
she would visit him from UC Davis where she was going to school
“He was one of those very magnetic people whose personality was bigger than life
He had an amazingly engaging quality that made people feel like they were his best friends,” said Sanford
who noted Lepe also had a mischievous streak and loved to play practical jokes
Having experienced some health problems in the past
she said that he told friends to be happy and remember that life was short
“He was always saying we shouldn't work too hard
that meant going to see live music and he spent some of his days with the love of his life
“Debbie was the love of his life and he was so happy the last few years,” his brother Marco Lepe said
the two designed a bar and outdoor patio they were both proud of
Denicke said that she put her heart and soul into the restaurant
while they were together and the two glowed around each other
“She deserves so much credit and she was so dedicated to Eddie and the restaurant,” he said
Bella set up a private Facebook group in July to update friends and family about her father’s health condition
The group has nearly 600 members and received hundreds of condolences and remembrances after Lepe’s death
Santa Rosa has lost a crown jewel,” Denicke said
In addition to Lepe’s daughter Bella and sons Mateo and Diego
he is survived by the mother of his children
Lori Lepe; his parents Hilda and Manuel; and many nieces and nephews
