Barcelona continues its commitment to the creation and improvement of public spaces with the recent reopening of the Clara Campoamor Gardens in the district of Les Corts
After a comprehensive reform that responds to the current needs of the city and its inhabitants
Mayor Jaume Collboni has stressed that these gardens represent “a green area won for the city and the district
inclusive and designed for everyone”
Collboni recalled the famous speech that Campoamor gave on October 1
defending women’s suffrage and political equality for women
“We want to pay tribute to Clara Campoamor and to the struggle of the women who achieved political equality in this country,” stressed the mayor
The garden renovation project has been made possible thanks to a public-private partnership between the District of Les Corts
Merlin Properties and Inmobiliaria Colonial
which have contributed 820,000 euros to finance the works
the Barcelona City Council has invested 810,000 euros
the District of Les Corts and the Institute of Parks and Gardens
the budget for this refurbishment amounts to 1.6 million euros
This public-private cooperation formula is not new in the district of Les Corts
It had already been successfully implemented in the renovation of the Sant Joan de Déu Gardens
demonstrating that this type of partnership can have a significant impact on the improvement of the city’s public spaces
the Clara Campoamor Gardens needed a general renovation to adapt to the new uses and requirements of the public space
the renovation of the street furniture and the creation of a path that invites visitors to stroll among the vegetation stand out
which remains the centerpiece of the gardens
but is now surrounded by shrubs and grasses that improve the aesthetics of the environment
accessibility has been a priority in this renovation
with the elimination of architectural barriers and the improvement of side accesses
ensuring that people of all ages and physical conditions can fully enjoy the space
With the aim of allowing neighbors and workers in the area to enjoy the space
new rest areas with abundant vegetation have been created
making the gardens more welcoming and adaptable to the current climatic conditions
flowerbeds and areas with tables and benches have been installed
offering an ideal place for a break or a moment of disconnection in the middle of the working day
One of the key points of the refurbishment was the renovation of the children’s area
which now has new inclusive playground equipment
as well as an accessible playground and a grassy esplanade
providing a safe and fun space for the little ones
These changes not only improve the quality of the space
but also promote inclusion and family enjoyment
making the Clara Campoamor Gardens a meeting place for all generations
The reopening of the Clara Campoamor Gardens is an example of how the city of Barcelona continues its commitment to the creation of sustainable public spaces
designed to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants
accessibility and recreational areas make this an ideal space for coexistence and outdoor enjoyment
making it a new green lung in the heart of Les Corts

Barça's history and its growth as a sporting and social entity has always been linked to its stadia
culminating in Camp Nou which will soon undergo the most important redevelopment in its history with the long awaited Espai Barça project
The 122 year old Club celebrated this year
the centenary of the construction of the ground at Les Corts - The Cathedral of football - as it quickly became known due to it being of the best in Europe at the time
The building of the ground at Les Corts was a logical consequence of the great Barça explosion that occurred in its first Golden Age between 1919 and 1929
The area chosen to build the new ground on was known as Can Ribot
and was situated in the Les Corts district between Carrer Numancia and the Travessera de les Corts (very close to the current Camp Nou)
On 10 July 1921 at the FC Barcelona General Assembly the decision to build the new home was approved “to meet all the conditions which the good name of the Club
its glorious history and the honour of Catalan football demand."
needed financing for the project and on 8 December 1921 in an extraordinary meeting of members the financial conditions were agreed
President Joan Gamper proclaimed that very day: "Gentlemen
from here on in a new Barcelona will be born
opening up a new era of prosperity and bringing an end to the opening period of its history."
On 8 February 1922 an emotional Joan Gamper signed the property deeds for the land on which the new ground was to be built
A few days later – 19 February- the solemn ceremony of laying the first foundation stone for the future Les Corts Stadium was held
At 11.00 a large number of Barça fans and members set out from the newly named Carrer París-Urgell (previously Carrer Industria)
They were accompanied by the Casa de Familiar marching band
the Club Standard carried by the ex-wrestling champion and fervent Barça fan Josep Ardèvol
representatives of the City Council and the Mancomunitat and the complete Board of Directors
Father Lluís Sabaté –Club member number 79 and a diehard fan
From a small stage set up for the authorities
Joan Gamper made an emotional speech in which he said: “on this ground
there will be many more to come on this blessed ground
Cheer up your hearts – we have a new ground!”
building work began in earnest and in a record time of three months
the new ground was completed and the new Les Corts Stadium
FC Barcelona met Scottish club St.Mirren in the inaugural game at the stadium which ended in a 2-1 win for the home side
The victory came just six days after Barça had beaten Real Unión Irun 5-1 to claim the Spanish Championship
The opening of the new ground could not have come at a better moment in the Club's history
A team containing legends such as Samitier
Piera and Sancho amongst others dominated football in the country
In the decade of the 1920s they won the Catalan Championship eight times
the Spanish Championship five times as well as the first ever league championship in 1929
with more and more members joining every year
This increased support was the inspiration for several expansion projects; the final expansion of the stadium in 1946 took the capacity to 48,000 fans
it was becoming patently evident that what the club really needed to do was build a completely new stadium
Despite the expansion of the stadium at Les Corts
the post-war boom in support led to the feeling that a new ground was needed with the Club's current home unsuitable for further development
At the end of the 1940s the construction of a new stadium was a serious objective for the Club and in 1957 Camp Nou was finally opened
Les Corts was used as a training and as a stadium for the B team but president Enric Llaudet felt it could be put to better used by selling the land
the old stadium was demolished and the land sold for 226 million pesetas for urban developments
The money from the sale was used to finance the Club's debt brought on by the construction of Camp Nou and the stadium in Les Corts
venue for Barça legend Paulino Alcantará's many goals
the Five Cups side and many other great memories for the Club was no more
on the day of 'La Mercé' the patron saint of the city of Barcelona
the stadium has witnessed many a glorious day with stars such as Johan Cruyff
Ronaldinho and Leo Messi gracing its turf amongst many others
FC Barcelona face another challenge: a new Espai Barça

Inside Barcelona’s lesser-known Mercat de Les Corts is a small
unassuming bar offering up the bounty of the Mediterranean
serving esmorzars de forquilla (hearty Catalan breakfasts like sausage and beans
tripe stew and grilled cuttlefish) to local workers
it serves a more refined seafood menu composed of whatever owner Alfonso Puig gets from Peixateria Anna
the fish stand on the other side of the market
The fish and seafood of the day are always seasonal
local and impeccably fresh – which is no surprise
since Puig is also the owner of the fish stand
Les Corts is a residential and commercial area crossed by Avinguda Diagonal
the hallowed stadium where football powerhouse Barça plays
a university campus and the Pedralbes Royal Palace
Les Corts is the kind of neighborhood where retirees walk their dogs and do the shopping with all the time in the world to enjoy the morning sun
They mix with students and workers from the business area around Diagonal who come and go in cars and on bikes and scooters
but has a little bit of everything and is easily navigable
order a wine glass and give free rein to your appetite: here you’ll find some of the best calamares a la romana (Roman-style fried squid) in Barcelona
made with pristinely fresh squid and a touch of Vichy sparkling water in the batter
The restaurant was renovated in 2007 when Puig decided to take over an old bar in the corner of the market
Peixateria Anna (which has been in Mercat de Les Corts since day one) was originally his in-laws’
but Puig was no stranger to the food and drink business – his own parents used to have a bar in a Catalan region called El Bisaura (Girona)
just put all the pieces together to complete the puzzle
given her skill in preparing the simple recipes that made this bar famous for its seafood dishes
the kitchen was put in the able hands of a young professional chef who can cook sea bass
The cuisine and recipes continue to be straightforward and simple: just about everything is grilled except the calamares a la romana and a few other dishes
The fish come from the Mediterranean and are caught using sustainable methods
While at other places lobsters and crabs are trotted out across the counter
Only before lunchtime (around 1 p.m.) do some marine creatures appear behind the glass; most of the seafood is carried straight from the fishmonger to the kitchen in its ice-filled box
you can see Puig bring more fresh fish from the other side of the market – no need to keep all the fish waiting under the counter lights
better to keep it fresh and in optimal conditions before it’s prepared and served
the perfect respite from office buildings and urban traffic
we recommend resting your feet and ordering a chilled Penedés or Albariño and enjoying a wonderful tapa of fried squid or grilled scorpion fish
some delicate yet highly flavorful escamarlans (langoustines) or some very special Noah’s Ark shellfish
You can rest assured knowing everything came straight from the source

the ultimate expression of Japanese cuisine
'Kaiseki' is a tasting of dishes that are eaten at an important dinner
though not forced by the concept of fine cuisine
but – by definition – 'kaiseki' describes a meal of between 6 and 15 dishes that include vegetables
fish and a bit of meat. You can also eat in the 'kotatsu' (a room with tatami and floor-evel tables) of the renovated ground floor
Wonders of simple accuracy such as a delicate and tasty tofu with fish broth
or egg with wakame and crab are traditional and delicious here

Today marks one hundred years since one of the most significant episodes in FC Barcelona history during the first third of the last century: the tribute dedicated to Joan Gamper in the Les Corts stadium
On Sunday 25 February 1923 the Barça founder was the centre of attention on a day full of emotion organised by the sporting world and the civil society of the time to highlight his contribution to society as a whole via his sporting endeavours
It is not just due to the sporting material
no; sporting sentiments have joined forces with popular sentiment
and at all times we have felt as excited as ever," so said the rhetoric of the time in El Mundo Deportivo the day after the event
The centrepiece of the event was a game between Barça and a Catalan Football XI and it took place at a time when the Club boasted 6,341 members
and when it had just entered into what would becomes its first golden age
consolidating its position both on and off the field
had opened just some months before on 20 May 1922 and was a sign of the importance of the blaugrana project which would soon see a huge increase in its membership
On the field the departure of Ricardo Zamora
the absence of Sancho and the limited contribution from Paulino Alcántara meant the team ended the 1922/23 season without silverware
Barça and Joan Gamper appeared in good shape at his tribute in February 1923
on 29 June of that year the founder of the club ended his fourth spell as president having consolidated the Club's finances on the eve of its first 25 years of existence
who stayed in the role for a year: Gamper returned for his fifth and final stint as president on 1 June 1924
For the event on 25 February 1923 at Les Corts all Catalan football clubs with the exception of Europa and Espanyol took part
The presence of Barça's main city rivals would have been a surprise given the strong rivalry between the two clubs
they were engaged at the time in a battle with the blaugranes for the Catalan Championship
A week before on 18 February a decisive fixture between Europa and Barça should have taken place but the Civil Governor of Barcelona postponed the game "in anticipation of incidents and altercations of public order that may occur."
a club who at the time enjoyed excellent relationship with FC Barcelona
had no problem in attending the tribute to Gamper
this genuine dedication can be found in one of the album recording the event: "Real Madrid Foot Ball Club
to the enthusiastic sportsman Master Juan Gamper
in admiration and sincere affection." More surprising is that is of the signatures was that of a Real Madrid player by the name of Santiago Bernabéu
At 3pm on 25 February the stands at Les Corts were full
They had been for quite a while before the start of the tribute which got under way with the eminent composer Joan Lamote de Grignon led the Barcelona Municipal band in different pieces of music
Segunda marcha catalana' by the composer himself
and a commemorative plaque for the opening of the Les Corts Stadium
The Orfeó Gracienc choir gave a version of the 'FC Barcelona Anthem' on the field
the second in the club's history following that of 1910
with lyrics by Rafael Folch and music by Enric Morera
gaining the largest ovation of the afternoon
accompanying the Barça players as they came out along with Ramon Bruguera
the former blaugrana keeper who was recovering from serious injury
the Swiss founder gave a short speech during the tribute and took the honorary kick off before the game
The referee for the day was former Barça player Roman Forns
with Enric Ducay and Otto Maier running the lines
two men who attended the FC Barcelona foundation meeting on 29 November 1899
Barrachina (Martinenc) and Galofré (Athletic de Sabadell)
Barça won 2-1 after two goals from Gràcia and one from Barrachina in a game that was far from easy for the team then coached by Jack Greenwell as described by El Mundo Deportivo: "Given the game was a friendly
it was hard fought and Barça's greater unity led to victory although it was not an easy one."

I trudged through adolescence with The Boomtown Rats’ ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ firmly stuck in my head
but over the years Sunday has turned into my weekly day of doom
So one Sunday night I went out for dinner at a Thai restaurant with just me
myself and I to try to shake that dark Sunday feeling out of my head
Lucky for me Bangkok Café turned out to be a pleasant surprise
making it look and feel like a restaurant out of New York instead of in the Les Corts neighbourhood of Barcelona
The entrance is in the small street Passatge de Tubella
a marvel of early 20th-century Barcelona that has managed to survive through changes and chain restaurants
Bangkok Café is a small space on whose walls the different types of curries are written – yellow
massamang – showing off a cuisine that is sandwiched between the Japanese and Chinese culinary empires that reign supreme in Barcelona
There are a lot of spicy dishes (which is fantastic or terrifying
I ordered a delicious spicy duck with vegetables
The waitress warned me that it would be very spicy
and I needed a bit of a fire lit inside me
so spicy that making the dish forced the cook to open all the windows in the room
I went back home so hot that I had to have a cold shower
Definitely get to this top Thai restaurant
but just be sure you're ready if you order spicy
At the start of the 1920s there was an air of euphoria in the city due to the excellent form of the team and the healthy state of the Club
It was clear that the 4,000 capacity Carrer Industria ground – opened in 1909 – was too small for the increasingly popular team
about to enter its Golden Age with players such as Samitier
President Joan Gamper then decided to build a new ground: “to meet all the conditions which the good name of the Club
its glorious history and the honour of Catalan football demand”
On February 8th 1922 an emotional Joan Gamper signed the property deeds for the land on which the new ground was to be built
A few days later – 19th February- the solemn ceremony of laying the first foundation stone for the future Les Corts Stadium was held
At 11.00 a large number of Barça fans and members set out from the newly named Carrer París-Urgell (previously Carrer Industria)
the Club Standard carried by the ex-wrestling champion and fervent Barça fan Josep Ardèvol
the members of the Club’s four teams
Father Lluís Sabaté –Club member number 79 and a diehard fan
Joan Gamper made an emotional speech in which he said: “on this ground
Cheer up your hearts – we have a new ground!”
which first opened its doors in September 2016

Barça's new stadium replaced their old ground of Les Corts which with a capacity of just 48,000 was too small to accomodate the interest generated by a team led by Hungarian star Ladislao Kubala
The stadium was designed by architects Francesc Mitjans Miró and Josep Soteras Mauri
with the collaboration of Lorenzo García Barbón
and it was constructed between 1955 and 1957
The whole project cost a staggering 288 million pesetas
which meant the club would spend the following years heavily in debt
Although it was originally going to go under the official name of ‘Estadi del FC Barcelona’
it soon came to be popularly known as the 'Camp Nou' (the ‘new ground’)
as opposed to the club’s old home at Les Corts
It was not until the 2000/2001 season that
following a postal vote made by the Club membership
that the decision was made to make ‘Camp Nou’ the official name of the stadium
a total of 19,861 (68.25%) preferred Camp Nou to Estadi del FC Barcelona
and it covers a surface area of 55,000 square metres (250 metres long and 220 metres wide)
the playing area has been downsized to 105 metres x 68 metres
the total capacity has varied over the years owing to different modifications
which would be increased to 120,000 in 1982 on occasion of the FIFA World Cup
the introduction of new regulations outlawing standing areas reduced the stadium’s capacity in the late 1990s to just under 99,000
UEFA recognised the services and facilities at Camp Nou by awarding it five star status
this category was replaced by the new 'Category 4' title which corresponds to the stadiums which fulfill the most demanding requirements with regards to facilities
services and capacity such as FC Barcelona's ground
Of the different facilities on offer inside the stadium
of particular note are a chapel next to the changing rooms
and the offices of all of the many different Club departments

No club in football history has achieved what Pep Guardiola's men managed in 2009: six tournaments
This 'annus memorabilis' climaxed in December with the FIFA World Club Cup win over Estudiantes
the tactics-obsessed young coach telling his players: 'Lose and you'll still be the best team in the world; win
and you'll be eternal.' Like Guardiola himself
seven of the Champions League-winning XI were formed at FCB's youth system
it had a capacity for just over 93,000 spectators
the stadium increased its capacity to hold 115,000 fans and hosted the first game of the World Cup that year
the stadium has been altered to include more seats and less standing area - making the total capacity 99,000
or you can take a tour of the stadium that includes the field

His seven children and ten businesspeople will also face court for the alleged corruption scandal affecting his whole family
ACN | Barcelona
The longest-serving Catalan president in modern times
will face trial for the alleged corruption case affecting him and his whole family
Spain's National Court announced the news on Wednesday
also confirming that his seven children and ten businesspeople will also be be tried
The court requested a €7.5 million bail for his son
will also be brought to trial for the same case
The clan has been accused of unlawful assembly
crimes against the tax office and forging documents
All of them will remain free during the sessions
and their defenses have been given a month to hand in their arguments in writing with the proposed outcome of the trial
Spain’s National Court indicted Pujol and his relatives in April, including his wife Marta Ferrusola and their seven children. Charges against Ferrusola were later dropped for health reasons
The public prosecutor requested 17 years behind bars for Gironès
14 for Josep Pujol Ferrusola and 8 for each of his remaining siblings: Pere
As for the solicitor general
on Tuesday a 25-year prison sentence was requested for former Catalan president Jordi Pujol's eldest son
with accusations for five tax crimes and a request for €7.7 million for civil liability
Gironès was presented with a 17-year conviction
wil face a four and a half year sentence from the solicitor general
neither the longest-serving Catalan head of government in modern times nor any other family member have been accused by this same party for the corruption case ongoing since July 2014
when the former president admitted to his family having money abroad which was undeclared in Spain's tax office
the judge that led the investigation in Spain's National Court
said he believed the family formed a criminal organization and
concluded that there was no solid evidence to prove that the Pujols' wealth came from inheriting his grandfather's
as the former politician had originally claimed in July 2014.
The April 20 indictment stated the family behaved as an illicit association or criminal organization due to their coordinated actions including simultaneously opening and closing bank accounts abroad as well as transferring funds between them in a strategy aimed at concealing the origin of the funds
The court said that the family "took advantage of Pujol's position at the head of the Catalan government from which they obtained significant economic returns
which were deposited in bank accounts abroad and subjected to various transfers and transmissions
was the longest-serving president in Catalonia’s democratic history
but his mammoth political legacy was tainted by subsequent corruption scandals
Pujol was reelected in five consecutive elections and ruled uninterrupted until 2003
leading Catalonia through Spain's democratic transition into the new millennium
Pujol was also the founder of Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC), for years Catalonia’s hegemonic center-right party, until corruption scandals and tensions caused by the independence bid led to its dissolution, with its offspring dispersed between Junts per Catalunya and PDeCAT parties, among others.

Although Consell de Cent and the superblocks have been the focus of attention in Barcelona’s urban transformations in recent years
at the height of the Glòries shopping center
where neighbors can anticipate a significant leap in the quality of urban life
After years of construction work for the Glòries tunnel
residents of this area will leave behind an eight-lane highway in front of their homes and will instead have a wide
21-meter-wide green promenade starting next year
The urban transformation project of Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes
is an ambitious initiative that seeks to improve the quality of life of residents and transform the urban landscape
this area has been dominated by a congested highway
which has negatively affected the air quality and tranquility of the area
the eight traffic lanes will be eliminated and replaced by a spacious green promenade
The importance of this change cannot be underestimated
as it will offer neighbors a healthier and more attractive environment in which to live
the promenade will be surrounded by a lush grove of trees that will provide shade and coolness on hot summer days
While the urban transformation works are underway
residents and visitors can enjoy a temporary tactical urbanism intervention
This intervention includes a zip line and outdoor exercise elements that have demonstrated the need to create dynamic public spaces where previously there was only traffic congestion
This is a preview of what is to come with the final transformation
The future Gran Via green promenade will become a meeting space for the community
Wide spaces are planned at the intersections with the main cross streets
as well as at the accesses to the Glòries shopping center
This focus on community and connectivity promises a friendlier and more socially active environment
The project also takes sustainable mobility into account
Resident and service vehicle traffic will be channeled through a single platform lane between the sidewalk and the central walkway
This will not only improve pedestrian safety but also encourage the use of bicycles and public transportation
The municipal government of Jaume Collboni has confirmed its commitment to the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes urbanization project
No changes will be made to the project that has already been definitively approved by the government commission
This project is the responsibility of the joint venture formed by Esteyco
TRN Taryet and the JPAM architectural firm
Work on the first phase of the project will begin in early 2024 and is expected to last one year
The budget allocated for this phase is 11.41 million euros
Once work is completed on the part closest to the residential buildings
including the laying of the tramway tracks in this area
The transformation of Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes is an exciting step forward for Barcelona in its quest for a more sustainable and livable urban environment
This initiative will not only improve the quality of life of residents
but will also contribute to the improvement of mobility and connectivity in the city
It will also lay the groundwork for future expansions of the streetcar system
paving the way for a more modern and sustainable Barcelona

Other hits are the made-to-order 'tortillas' (omelettes) – the one with cod looked so good I nearly jumped right into it – and small
stripped-down dishes that have proven to be popular
Although the style of the restaurant has changed in terms of the food
the philosophy among the chefs and the staff is still the same
and now the cooks also work in the dining room so they can explain the food preparation better. In the transition from L'Alegria to Bolero
they focused a lot on the exquisite interior design
with wooden waves and takes on Spanish pop and kitsch (see the clippings from 'Hola' magazine featuring Julio Iglesias)
like the cutlery being kept in the table drawers
This space in Plaça de Joan Llongueras has reinvented itself to give Sant Gervasi just what it needed
with an interior design that's perfectly balanced between elegance and modernity
Upstairs you can relax in the magnificent restaurant headed up by Chef José Armenteros: the 'ensaimada' pastries with parmesan and spicy 'sobrasada' sausage
and the scallops with pig's trotters cannot be missed
The daily set lunch menu is also top-notch.But what really gets us going is the basement
introduces me to this club/cocktail bar where I could spend the rest of my life; a lush club (with sofas and vinyl records on the walls) that features dance and urban music and with a class sound system and areas for every mood: you can dance
laugh...The best thing is that the club also boasts one of the most attractive bars in Barcelona
Eric Bertran mixes the highest-quality cocktails right in the thick of the action

DJs Viktor Ollé and Quim Campbell are in charge of spinning the soundtrack and they tell me they're planning a hip hop party with Flavio Rodríguez for Sundays
The project has been jointly developed by the District of Les Corts and the Department for Animal Welfare
with information provided for local people and FC Barcelona about the two stages of the pilot plan
part of the municipal strategy to control and reduce the growth of pigeon communities
The first stage lasts two weeks and will see raptors in flight every day between 8 am and 4 pm to regularly disperse areas identified by specialists where pigeons concentrate in numbers
In the following four weeks corresponding to the second stage
flights will be reduced to three a week to ensure that the colonies have dispersed
as these birds reputedly return to the same spaces to feed
The specialists will also gather data on the hours of pigeons
their presence at drinking points and places where they feed and rest
According to the results of the pilot project

The World Cup winner netted a sensational treble as Paris Saint-Germain took command of their Champions League last-16 tie with a 4-1 away win in the first leg
Mbappe's smart close-range finish cancelled out Lionel Messi's penalty opener
before he tapped in after half-time to give PSG the lead for the first time
Moise Kean added to that advantage before a sublime breakaway fourth saw Mbappe sweep a stunning finish into the top-right corner
The France forward is the first visiting player to score three times at Camp Nou since Diego Forlan's hat-trick for Villarreal in 2005
That Forlan effort was the first of the 21st century
the previous being the only other Champions League treble besides Mbappe's
when Andriy Shevchenko led a remarkable 4-0 away win for Dynamo Kiev in 1997
Not all hat-tricks for away sides at Barca have resulted in such dominant displays
with three of the 10 trebles coming in matches that ended all square
And two three-goal stars actually finished on the losing side
including poor Milinko Pantic in a Copa del Rey epic months before Shevchenko stole the show
Pantic scored four times for Atletico Madrid
yet they improbably went down 5-4 to Bobby Robson's Blaugrana
The only other instance of a visiting player netting four came at Barca's previous Les Corts home when Julian Arcas did so in a draw with rivals Espanyol in 1956
Two of the 10 hat-tricks came at Les Corts - the other eight were all at Camp Nou - as Barca also beat Valencia 4-3 in 1948 despite Vicente Segui's treble
Not since 2005 had a visiting player scored a hat-trick away to Barcelona
with Kylian Mbappe the 10th ever.Kylian Mbappe became just the 10th player ever to score a competitive hat-trick away to Barcelona on Tuesday
The school at the Barcelona Royal Tennis Club RCTB
should be world-renowned since it represents one of the best clubs on the planet
Students come out with not only a high technical level
but also a number of values such as discipline
The motto 'know how to win and how to lose' is still present in the school's philosophy and reflects many of the values they seek to convey
The group developing the monument that pays tribute to the former Women Prison of Les Corts has received the Medal of Honour of the Barcelona City Council
The University of Barcelona (UB) participates in the group by means of the Polis Research Centre: Art
the masterʼs degree in Urban Design and the European Observatory of Memories of the UB Solidarity Foundation
This award-winning initiative —co-developed by the UB and the Associació per la Cultura i la Memòria de Catalunya (ACME
Association for Catalan Culture and Memory)— aims at recovering the historical memory of the Women Prison of Les Corts
citizens are invited to collaborate with neighbourhood associations to discuss the creation of the monument that will remember the prison
This award-winning initiative —co-developed by the UB and the Associació per la Cultura i la Memòria de Catalunya (ACME
Association for Catalan Culture and Memory)— aims at recovering the historical memory of the Women Prison of Les Corts
The Women Prison of Les Corts was located at the Avinguda Diagonal
thousands of women were imprisoned and eleven prisoners were shot in the prison during the cruellest years of Franco's dictatorship
Repression was not only political and social
Women were treated as hysterical people who were unable to take on the domestic role assigned to them. Nowadays
the prison does not exist and the place is occupied by a popular shopping centre
The former prison is only remembered by a plaque that does not make any reference to the dictatorship

The atmosphere here is much more laid-back than in the busy city centre
making it very much a place where locals like to go out and live
This is also where you’ll find the quieter and more charming streets and squares in Les Corts
