The Rodalies R3 line was partially suspended on Tuesday morning after a fire broke out on the overhead line, damaging part of a train between the northern stations of Ripoll and Manlleu. The train, which was heading to Vic, had around 60 passengers onboard. All were evacuated, and two individuals required medical attention, being transferred to a primary health center in the municipality of Torelló. The fire began at 8:45 a.m. when the train's pantograph became entangled with the overhead line. "People started screaming, 'Get off the train,' and we smelled something burning, so we quickly got off," Núria, one of the passengers, told the Catalan News Agency (ACN). "We heard a loud noise, and then the overhead line came down," Núria added. After evacuating the train, passengers walked along the tracks. Those traveling to Barcelona were provided with an alternative bus route, while some opted to return to Puigcerdà or Ripoll by taxi. "I don't need to go to Barcelona anymore. I was supposed to be there at 10:30 a.m., so I prefer to return to Puigcerdà," Núria said. Five firefighter brigades were dispatched to the scene, and the fire has since been extinguished. Above the entire scene, we see star trails that bring a sense of movement to the scene. The photo, which was selected by NASA as the Astronomy Picture of the Day His success in bringing the image to life is particularly meaningful are often covered with clouds and mist.  “There are very few nights where you can go out to take some photos in the high mountains,” he tells My Modern Met While he takes any opportunity that he can get to photograph the Milky Way and star trails in the area capturing the lightning storm was an experience that he'll never forget Celebrating creativity and promoting a positive culture by spotlighting the best sides of humanity—from the lighthearted and fun to the thought-provoking and enlightening Photographer Marc Sellés Limós captured this photo of an epic lightning storm while also encapsulating star trails caused by the Earth’s rotation Limós tells PetaPixel that the lightning storm was taking place in a different country to the one he took the photo in “The photograph shows the village of Manlleu The final image is a photo composite of 380 images “I configure my camera using an aperture of f/2.8 while the ISO was configured at 640,” says the Spaniard “The reason why I used one second of exposure is because if I had used a longer exposure perhaps the final image would have been overexposed I would not have been able to capture all the bolts of lightning.” Limós was also battling light pollution emanating from his hometown of Manlleu which he says is a problem when capturing nighttime photos “The one-second of exposure is perfect in this way the light pollution does not interfere with the capture of the bolts of lightning Light pollution is a problem to take night pictures,” he explains “I used Adobe Lightroom to crop all the images and to edit the final image I also increased the lights of Manlleu in order to highlight the village I decreased the light of the bolts of lightning.” Limós, who used his Olympus EM1 Mark II and Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8 pro lens on top of a Benro tripod says that the stars appeared in trails as they circled the North Pole NASA selected the image for its astronomy picture of the day and said the “trailing effect is caused by the rotation of the Earth and the curvature of the trails indicates their distance from the north spin pole of the Earth above.” Limós says that despite the ferocious-looking lightning storm he could not hear it because it was so far away across the Pyrenees mountain range “This storm could be seen from the regions of Central Catalonia and those of the Northeast,” he adds More of Limós’ work can be found on his Instagram. Normal services on the R3 commuter train route are back in operation after an electrical storm caused an incident on Tuesday evening. The incident was initially resolved on Wednesday morning and normal services were expected to resume but Renfe reported that a "problem arose" when removing the damaged train from the infrastructure. This train has now been removed and normal services are back. The route was closed between Torelló and Manlleu on Tuesday evening after a breakdown caused a train to stop near the Torelló station with a hundred passengers trapped inside. Four fire brigades had to evacuate the passengers safely and Renfe took them to their destination by bus.   Renfe sources have indicated that the damage on the overhead line has already been repaired and that work is underway to remove the affected train. In the nearby town of Vic, rain forced the fire brigade to attend to some 20 incidencets due to flooding of some squares and streets. Dozens of R3 users waited impatiently at the Torelló station this morning after a breakdown in services interrupted the service between Vic and Torelló. An alternative bus service was offered, but the connection was also not working from there. "The train has failed, it always fails," one angry passenger, Francisco, lamented, after getting up at 6 am to go to work in Puigcerdà. He feels especially "outraged" at the lack of information given to passengers, meaning he will not make it to work on time. Last month, he also witnessed the fire in the Manlleu station. “Something needs to be done, should we wait for a disaster to happen?” he asked. Security Once Again Created Tension Between Right and Left | Mossos d'Esquadra POLITICS The Creation of a Mossos Police Station in Manlleu Shows ERCThe Left Once Again Showed Their Naivety When Addressing the Crime Problem20/03/2025 12:15:00h by Redacción PP has presented a motion in the Interior Commission at Parliament for the construction of a Mossos d'Esquadra police station in Manlleu The proposal was approved with the favorable votes of Vox and Junts The debate on the motion highlighted the naivety of the left regarding the issue of security PP presented the motion as a "necessity" for the area to ensure security in the northern part of the region concentrates almost half of the region's population and also suffers from serious public safety issues That's why PP proposes the creation of a second Mossos police station to relieve the existing one in Vic the Vic police station would serve the capital and southern towns like Taradell or Tona And the installation of a police station in Manlleu could meet the needs of the northern area Popular deputy Alberto Villagrasa appealed to the consensus caused by the proposal He recalled that in 2022 a similar proposal was already voted on he lamented the inaction of the parties that have governed in recent years Junts reiterated that they indeed proposed in October 2022 the construction of a new police station in Manlleu The proposal was approved in the Interior Commission months later But Junts claims it didn't materialize due to the lack of will from the Aragonès government which "replied to our request by playing the flute." The construction of the police station is a long-standing demand of Junts in the municipality they recalled that these facilities would serve 60,000 inhabitants And that the number of officers per inhabitant in Osona is below the Catalan average That's why the party supported PP's motion ERC deputy Josep Vidal clearly stated his party's position on this issue He said that "building more police stations is not the optimal response to end certain crimes that concern citizens." He also stated that "what we need are preventive reeducation measures." "the police response in the area is adequate to the forces it has." He appealed for coordination between police forces As well as the need for a technical study to assess crime data and identify which crimes are rising and the most effective response The proposal also caused a debate about crime in Manlleu Vox warned of an "unsustainable situation" in this municipality of 21,000 inhabitants in the Osona region "A city that was once quiet and family-friendly has become a hotspot of criminality Drug trafficking and street violence are the daily bread," said deputy Alberto Tarradas He denied the portrayal made by Vox of the city He admitted that it has "challenges of coexistence and security," and that "citizens are concerned" and that "an adequate police response is needed." But he stated that it is the third safest city and is well below the average number of crimes per thousand inhabitants Crime Data in Manlleu | Ministerio InteriorData from the Ministry of the Interior also show that conventional crime rose by 15.9% in 2024 All crimes increased except for burglaries in homes and establishments Sexual assaults with penetration increased by 150%
