making it one of the oldest in the F1 calendar
enabling F1 fans to combine a weekend of racing with a mini break in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities
If the Spanish Grand Prix is on your go-to list for 2025
you may be wondering the best way to get there
we’ll explore all options for getting to get to Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona for the 2024 Spanish GP
The Circuit de Catalunya track is located in the town of Montmeló
approximately 30km (19 miles) northeast of central Barcelona
Barcelona El Prat International Airport (BCN) is the nearest airport to the circuit
located approximately 10km (6 miles) southwest of the city centre and just over 40km (25 miles) from the circuit itself
This airport not only has great domestic and European links
you can also fly direct into Barcelona from intercontinental locations including USA
While there are no direct flights from Australia
Emirates fly from Sydney with a few hours’ stop in Dubai
a number of low-cost airlines fly into the regional airport of Girona-Costa Brava (GRO) located just over 70km (44 miles) from Circuit de Catalunya
(Heads up: this airport is ideal if you are planning to combine your visit to the Grand Prix with a beach holiday!)
By taxi – The easiest and quickest way to get to the city centre is to take one of the official black and yellow taxis
located at the exit of Terminals T1 and T2
By metro – A far cheaper option is to take the L9 metro line from Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2
By train – The RENFE train service runs approximately every 30 minutes to and from Barcelona Airport to the city centre
The journey takes 25 minutes and costs €4.60
By bus – Take either the express Aerobus service (€6.75) or the number 46 bus (€2.40) direct to the city centre
Once you’re in Barcelona, getting to Circuit de Catalunya in Montmeló is simple, with plenty of transport options to choose from. The city has a fantastic metro system and while you can’t take a metro to Montmeló itself, you can usually catch one to the main train station from wherever you are in the city. View the Barcelona Metro map here.
Let’s take a closer look at all your transport options for how to get from Barcelona to Circuit de Catalunya
The nearest station to Circuit de Catalunya is Montmeló
however taxis are available from the station if the walk is a little too much
The main trainline running from the city to Montmeló is the R2 Nord (light green) train from either Sants (the main train station in Barcelona)
Passeig de Gracia or El Clot in the direction of Granollers or Maçanet Massanes
with tickets costing as little as €2.80 each way
The journey lasts approximately 30 minutes
but don’t forget to factor in the 45-minute walk from Montmeló station to the circuit
there are usually trains running between Barcelona and Montmeló every 20 minutes but be warned – these can get very crowded
You can buy tickets online at Renfe.com or at the station itself
If you’re planning on catching a train from the airport direct to Montmeló

Timetable and ticket prices ae not yet available for the race weekend 2024 but the cost is likely to be approximately €20 return with the journey taking 45 minutes
Sagales also runs services to the circuit from the popular beach resorts of Lloret de Mar and Blanes – perfect for those combining the race weekend with a holiday. You can view the current Sagales timetable here which includes the various stops en route

The Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix has been a tradition in Barcelona for the past 33 years
the future of Formula 1 in the Catalan city faces a challenge: competition from the Community of Madrid
which seeks to design a street circuit around Ifema
has shown its determination to host a Formula 1 race from 2026
Although he assures that this will not be a detriment to Barcelona
the reality is that Formula 1 organizers generally avoid having two championship races in a single country
The fight to retain Formula 1 at Montmeló will be crucial for Barcelona
Although the award has been the subject of debate in recent years
especially during the term of former mayor Ada Colau
the event has been an important milestone for the city
Although the City Council does not own the Montmeló Circuit
it has provided financial support in the past
One of the main factors that will determine the future of Formula 1 in Barcelona is the economic aspect
Montmeló pays a fee of 22 million euros to Formula 1
this amount is expected to increase considerably due to the growing interest of cities around the world in hosting the prestigious event
Faced with the possibility of a higher fee
the administrations that control the Montmeló Circuit
such as the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Reial Automòbil Club de Catalunya (Racc)

Both Repsol Honda Team riders spent Saturday preparing for what is set to be a challenging Catalan GP
temperatures and tyre life two factors for Espargaro and Bradl to manage
The heat was again unrelating in Barcelona
ambient temperatures climbing above 30°C as the tarmac crept towards 60°C
On track there was nowhere to hide as the pace also escalated
the outright lap record being broken several times during the day
Saturday’s first session went well overall for Pol Espargaro
able to end the morning in the top ten for a spot in Q2
Victim to a crash at Turn 5 midway through Free Practice 3
His best time of 1’39.246 would come after the fall
his never give up attitude on full display
With his team working tirelessly over the midday break
Espargaro was able to continue FP4 and Qualifying with two RC213Vs
Hotter conditions in Q2 saw the home hero unable to improve on his overall best time
Tenth place on the grid will see the 30-year-old lead the Honda charge into Turn 1
Espargaro’s Q2 time from 2022 was 2.3 seconds faster than his lap from the previous year
Tyre management will be a key aspect of Sunday’s race
On the other side of the Repsol Honda Team garage
Able to consistently improve his lap times in each session and tick off a number of important items for Honda HRC
the German will start Sunday’s 24-lap race from 21st on the grid ahead of Ducati test rider Michele Pirro
Forecasts suggest a slight drop in temperature for Sunday
topping out at around 27°C at 14:00 Local Time – just when the race is scheduled to begin
Already we knew that the afternoon would be harder and I wasn’t able to be faster
I was losing most of my time braking into Turn 1
Tenth was the best we could do finally in Qualifying
Tomorrow is going to be a tricky race; we will need to use the harder tyres and try to manage them – like everyone
The change in temperature is not a lot so finally the track will be greasy like today
Let’s see what happens and no matter what we will try out best for the home fans here!”
“We improved a little bit over yesterday and I avoided any mistakes
This morning I struggled a bit to find speed in qualifying mode but in Q1 we made a step and improved our position
we are building our speed and this is where we are at the moment
Our plan for the race is to manage the tyres and the situation
the main goal is to finish the race and learn what we can
I am not setting a specific target for the race
In 1989, through the joint collaboration of the Catalan Autonomous Government, the Montmeló Town Council and the Royal Automobile Club of Catalunya (RACC), work began on giving one of Europe’s most beautiful cities a state of the art race track to match. During the Sant Joan weekend
a traditional Catalan festival with fireworks
But with the festivities come traffic jams on the roads
The three-day weekend was expected to be particularly busy as it coincided with the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Montmeló.
By Saturday afternoon, a total of 478,000 vehicles had left the Barcelona metropolitan area.
This represents a 4% increase over the 460,000 vehicles expected, according to the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT).
On Saturday, the AP-7 highway and the area around the Circuit de Catalunya were the most congested.
There were queues up to 9.5 kilometers in Penedès - between Castellet and la Gornal and Banyeres - and around 8 kilometers in Vallès - between Santa Perpètua de la Mogoda and Montornès.
Despite these conditions, traffic flowed relatively smoothly compared to similar holiday weekends, with no major delays or accidents reported.
Police will set up a total of 1,106 checkpoints on Catalan roads, with around 4,000 police officers, including the Catalan police Mossos d'Esquadra and local officers, deployed to ensure security.
The Catalan Fire Department will also be reinforced with an average of four additional firefighters per station.
Last year, between 8 pm on June 23 and 8 am on June 24, they responded to 934 incidents, mainly urban fires and vegetation fires. The majority of the incidents occurred in metropolitan areas.
Interior minister Joan Ignasi Elena said that the fire risk was not as extreme as in the previous two years due to recent rains, but stressed that the risk remained high.
The emergency phone line 112 has a total of 100 personnel during the peak activity period. The night of Sant Joan is the busiest night for this service, along with New Year's Eve.

Madrid will host a Formula 1 Grand Prix for 10 years from 2026, putting the future of the Catalan race into doubt.
The contract between F1 and Catalonia's Montmeló track runs until 2026, leaving the question that the sports event could leave Catalonia entirely when the contract is up.
Yet, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has spoken on Tuesday about the new Madrid Grand Prix as being "complementary" to the Catalan race, which has a history spanning more than three decades at the Circuit de Catalunya de Montmeló.
"We must not forget that we are very strong in Barcelona," Domenicali said in an intervention at the presentation of the new Madrid race.
Domenicali was excited at the Madrid proposal because he said it combines important elements such as sports competition, technology or sustainability. "Madrid has presented a very innovative, interesting project, it's your time," he said.
The hosting of the races will mean an annual income of €450 million for the Spanish capital region.
Meanwhile, the Catalan government maintains that it is still negotiating to extend the contract for the Circuit de Catalunya.
Business minister Roger Torrent assures that the executive is "very calm" about the future of the F1 event in Catalonia.
"The working dynamics of the circuit will continue as it has been the last 33 years," Torrent said.
"We are very happy with the relationship with F1 and we know that F1 is very happy with the organization of the grand prix. We are convinced that the relationship will last for many more years," he reiterated.

Traffic control measures will be put into place to mitigate impact on major roads
ACN | Barcelona
Three months after testing in February, Formula 1 returns to Barcelona this weekend, with around 100,000 attendees predicted to be present at the Grand Prix on Sunday, following two years of the event going on behind closed doors due to the pandemic.
The circuit in Montmeló, around an hour outside Barcelona, also expects numbers to exceed those of 2019’s event.
"We are coming out of a period of confinement and measures, with different activities being normalized" said Lourdes Puigbarraca, an official from the Catalan Traffic Service, in a presentation of the special traffic device, which was made at a Mossos d'Esquadra police station in Granollers.
As a result, the Catalan Traffic Service has announced special measures to facilitate mobility on the main roads, allowing both Grand Prix goers and local road users to move about efficiently.
Among these measures is the decision to implement an inverted lane on the C-32 North highway as an alternative to the AP-7.
The special measures will be in place between Saturday at 7.00 am and 5.00 pm and Sunday between 7.00 am and 6.00 pm.
"The way the championship is going, the way it ended last year, and the fact that independent programs and series about Formula 1 have been produced, has helped many people who were familiar with the sport get involved and begin to follow it", explained the director of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Josep Lluís Santamaria.
These new-found fans mean that, unlike previous years, it is expected that a considerable proportion of those at the track will be from Catalonia and elsewhere in Spain. As a result, the number of private vehicles trying to gain access to the circuit will likely increase.
To tackle this increased traffic, aside from the temporary changes to the local highways, entrance to the venue is expected to be staggered, so that people arrive progressively.
However, more concern lies around the exit, as fans tend to leave in one great burst once the race is over, which can lead to the overflowing of nearby roads.
In order to reduce these crowds, the circuit has chosen to open the track to attendees, allowing them to step on the asphalt on which the drivers will have just driven.
In order to reduce the effect of the increased number of cars, Puigbarraca “strongly advise[s] the use of public transport". In response to this request, there will be 76 special trains and 50,000 additional seats on Saturday and Sunday on the R2 Nord railway line leading to Montmeló.
There will also be a bus service connecting Montmeló station with the circuit. Furthermore, the bus company Sagalés is establishing a shuttle service between the center of Barcelona and from the main towns on the coastline nearby and the site.
This year, new technical regulations intended to produce closer racing seems to be working, as the first five races of the season have produced some fascinating contests, chief among which is the championship battle between Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, driving for Red Bull.
With Verstappen having won the last two races, he seems to be the favourite coming into this weekend, but the Dutchman still trails Leclerc by 19 points in the standings, owing to two retirements in Bahrain and Australia.
The Spanish crowd, meanwhile, will be cheering on two-time world champion Fernando Alonso and Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz, who will be hoping for his first Grand Prix victory come race day.
The Spanish Grand Prix will take place on the 30 May – 1 June 2025 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the small town of Montmeló, 28km (17 miles) northeast of Barcelona. One of the oldest races on the F1 calendar, the Spanish Grand Prix witnessed a historic moment in 1975 when Lella Lombardi became the only woman in Formula One history to earn points in a race

Four people died after a runover by a Rodalies commuter train in Montmeló, north of Barcelona, on Sunday night.
Renfe sources told the Catalan News Agency (ACN) that a group of people crossed the rails at 8:22 pm through a non-authorized area between Parets del Vallès and Granollers-Canovelles train stations from the R3 commuter train line.
Overall, seven people crossed the rails, and while three were not injured, they had an anxiety crisis and were moved to the Mollet del Vallès hospital.
At the beginning, emergency services confirmed there were three dead, but a fourth one, with severe injuries, passed away due to a cardiorespiratory arrest.
The victims are three women and one man aged 19 to 22, as the Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police director, Pere Ferrer, told media outlets on the ground in the early hours of Monday. He was accompanied by Pere Rodríguez, mayor of Montmeló, and other authorities.
The accident happened near the Circuit de Catalunya racing track, a zone close to an outdoor techno music festival where the victims were going.
The group had just arrived by train to the municipality and were going to the DURO festival, which saw around 15,000 to 16,000 attendees.
"We organized a team with specific access and customer service agents, but we understand that the group wanted to take a shortcut through an area that was not announced or lit," Pere Rodríguez said.
"We believe that the group did not know where they were going, and unfortunately, the train arrived," he added.
Although the rails are protected with some fences near the houses, the group crossed them from an area where there are no fences and there is a gap of around 50 centimeters in width.
"There is nothing on the other side," Rodríguez said while considering the most tragic events that occurred in the municipality in years.
Meanwhile, neighbors around the area said that it is quite normal to see visitors going to the Circuit de Catalunya or to nearby events to cross through that gap.
"When we left our home this morning, there were already a lot of people crossing through there, there are no restrictions, even though the path takes nowhere," Vicente Mayor, neighbor, said to media outlets.
Nine ambulances, a helicopter, three psychologists from the Catalan emergency system, and seven firefighter units were deployed to the area. Firefighters looked up for other victims in the area, but none others were found.
The train line was temporarily halted between Parets del Vallès and Granollers. Passengers on the R3 train were left waiting for up to two hours while authorities controlled the situation, no injuries were reported among the 170 passengers.
The police investigation is now part of a judicial case, and during the early hours of the night, police were not able to identify the victims, therefore they were not able to inform their families of the tragic news.
The Catalan president, Pere Aragonès, was "absolutely dismayed," as he wrote on social media X, previously known as Twitter, on Sunday late night. "It is a mortal tragedy that left us breathless," he added.
On a similar note, the Spanish acting transport ministry, Raquel Sánchez, gave her condolences to the families and their loved ones. As Aragonès, the minister, praised the work of the emergency units "under very difficult situations."
Lewis Hamilton was worried about Max Verstappen before Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix
about how the Mercedes tires would cope under a searing summer sun after wilting last week in the lesser heat of Silverstone
His concerns proved as unfounded as his 88th career victory was comprehensive
The six-time world champion is now within three of Michael Schumacher's Formula One record of 91 wins
Hamilton beat Verstappen by 24 seconds to extend his championship lead over him to 37 points - 132 to 95 - after six races
“I didn’t even know it was the last lap I was so zoned in.”
His teammate Valtteri Bottas is fading from the picture
and already languishes 43 points behind Hamilton despite winning the first race of the season
Hamilton’s fourth win of the coronavirus-shortened campaign was also timely
considering Verstappen’s superb win last Sunday — when Mercedes anxiety levels rose
“It was a surprise because we had that problem with the tires last weekend," Hamilton said
The pre-race thinking from Mercedes was that Verstappen — who has eight podiums in the last nine races — was favorite
and Verstappen's priority became keeping Bottas in third place
I didn’t have the pace like Lewis but I’m happy with second," he said
“The start was crucial to get ahead of Valtteri."
Although Bottas secured a bonus point for the fastest lap
he is six points behind Verstappen in the standings
The winding 4.7-kilometer ( 2.9-mile) Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
with its combination of slow and fast corners
After narrowly securing a record-extending 92nd career pole position Hamilton made a strong start on the long straight to the first corner
But Bottas was overtaken by Verstappen and the Racing Point of Lance Stroll — who jumped from fifth to third with a fine move on Bottas' right flank
I lost a position and then had to push hard to make ground and suffered the tire condition,” Bottas said
“I was behind Max and everyone knows how hard that is."
Track temperatures on the circuit were around 50 degrees C (122 F) and Bottas was concerned
“These black overalls are hot,” he said during the race
It was another miserable day for struggling Ferrari
with Sebastian Vettel seventh and Charles Leclerc abandoning after his engine cut out on track
“I don’t know why the car switched off completely,” Leclerc said
He crawled into the pits but his race was over on lap 41
he would likely have been lapped by Hamilton just as Vettel was
Hamilton set the pace with a confident start
While he and Verstappen swapped fastest lap times
Bottas labored behind Stroll for four laps
It was Verstappen — and not Hamilton — who was complaining about his rear tires and by lap 20 of 66 he said there was “nothing left” in them
The ice-cool Dutchman was getting flustered
“Do you want me to repeat it again?” he shouted moments later on his radio
his team brought him in for new tires on lap 22 but he was 10 seconds behind Hamilton
Both Mercedes pitted for new tires on the next lap
But a blip attaching the rear left saw Hamilton emerging about four seconds clear of Verstappen
He was given a brief glimmer of hope as Hamilton’s tire was showing signs of blistering only six laps after being fitted
who missed the last two races as he recovered from the coronavirus
finished in fourth place ahead of Stroll with McLaren’s Carlos Sainz Jr
Vettel is having his worst start since 2008 but drove very well with just the one tire stop
It proved the right choice but came after a tense exchange between Vettel and his race engineer
“What do you think about going to the end on these tires?” his engineer asked
Vettel replied: “I asked you this before!”
Vettel had asked his team whether they thought he could go to the end on the same tires — and got no response
His final season with Ferrari could prove to be long and arduous while Hamilton is odds-on to end it with a seventh title to equal Schumacher — Vettel's childhood hero

20 August After closing to within 16 points of Bagnaia with a double victory at Sachsenring
Martin remains in second but has now dropped 62 points adrift of the reigning champion
The Pramac Ducati rider returned to the top three for the first time since Germany on Saturday in Austria
but a long lap penalty for the main race dropped him back into the pack and he could only salvage seventh
“I felt it was the best position I could achieve today starting from twelfth,” Martin said
“I did an amazing start and was with the podium group
So I lost time overtaking a lot of riders and had to use too much rear tyre
“It’s a pity because I had the pace to fight for - not first position - but for sure second was a real possibility
So now its three weekends where we lost our chance for the [GP] podium.”
While the MotoGP season is only at its midway stage
Martin believes another bad result next time in Barcelona will mean “we will have to fight for second”
“I felt I was the only one who could put some pressure on [Bagnaia] today
but I feel I was the only one who could be closer
“I was losing a little bit [to Bagnaia] on corner 9 but the rest I was really close or faster than him
“So I hope we can put together a good qualifying in Montmelo because it will be key to battle for this championship
if not then we will have to fight for second.”
19 August Martin: Sprint pile-up ‘not my fault’Martin said he still didn’t accept the long lap penalty decision made by the FIM Stewards following the first turn pile-up in the Sprint race
I watched it a lot of times and I spoke with a lot of riders
a lot of journalists… If you watch again and again you understand it was not my fault
It was just a combined situation,” said Martin
“We have something [on Sunday] that was an even more aggressive from another rider and nothing happened
“I think they had to take somebody [for] a penalty
to punish for the action and they chose the easy option maybe.”
The Spaniard also regretted that the penalty decision came after the Sprint race had finished and therefore compromised his chances in the full points Grand Prix
“It’s a pity that if the Stewards are unable to do a penalty during a Sprint race then you have to get it during the main race
which is more important and if you are fighting for a championship it destroys your possibilities.”
Martin remains just six points clear of VR46 Ducati rider Marco Bezzecchi

The Madrid regional government says it is in the "final phase" of negotiations to host an F1 Grand Prix.
Despite there being "no definitive confirmation" yet, the conversations are "going well," officials indicated to the Catalan News Agency. Formula 1 will not announce any update on the race calender until a deal is final.
Should Madrid secure the event, it would likely mean that Catalonia's Montmeló race track would lose its bid to host the F1 race.
The news was first published by newspaper 'El Mundo' quoting F1 sources on Tuesday, which explains that Madrid will get the Spanish Grand Prix for 2026, to the detriment of Catalonia.
Sources from the Catalan government pointed out that there is a contract with Catalonia until 2026 and they assure that there are talks to extend the deal beyond that date.
The Madrid government says that the incompatibility of a Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid with a Catalan race depends on the organization of Formula 1, and they have no information about it.

Valentino Rossi feels he will have better potential at Catalunya this weekend than he did at Mugello
where the Movistar Yamaha rider claimed a rostrum finish in front of his passionate home fans
Rossi sealed third behind factory Ducati riders Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso at the Italian round and is 23 points behind MotoGP Championship leader Marc Marquez
The 39-year-old was encouraged following a test in Montmeló three weeks ago and Rossi is optimistic he can improve further on the M1
Valentino Rossi feels he will have better potential at Catalunya this weekend than he did at Mugello
He said: “I hope I can be stronger at the Catalunya circuit
I think our potential there is better than it was at Mugello
At the test in Montmeló we found something
Rossi has an impressive record at Catalunya
where he has won seven times in the premier class
Rossi and team-mate Maverick Vinales struggled last year on the old asphalt
although the Italian is much happier with the new surface this year at the track
where the original fast penultimate corner has been reintroduced rather than the F1 chicane used in 2016 and 2017
it is rumoured that the factory Yamaha pairing could have some new electronic updates available for Monday's post-race test in Spain
Maverick Vinales says the recent test at Circuit de Catalunya has provided a timely boost ahead of the Italian MotoGP after his “horrible” previous round at Le Mans for Movistar Yamaha
Maverick Vinales says the recent test at Circuit de Catalunya has provided a timely boost ahead of the Italian MotoGP after his “horrible” previous round at Le Mans for Movistar Yamaha
The Spaniard’s frustrations spilt over at the French MotoGP after finishing a distant seventh place for the factory Yamaha squad and 18 seconds behind teammate Valentino Rossi. Having suffered with rear grip issues throughout the race at Le Mans and “trying to crash in every corner”, Vinales made it clear he demanded changes on his side of the garage
Vinales appears to have found some timely set-up tweaks at the private MotoGP test at Circuit de Catalunya – which was resurfaced over the winter – and says he had “good feelings” which he is eager to apply at Mugello for this weekend’s Italian MotoGP
“We're working our way through a difficult time,” Vinales said
“We lost some very important points for the championship in the earlier rounds but
we won't give up and we'll continue working hard to get good results in the races to come
“I've climbed up to second in the championship and that motivates me to keep working hard
After the difficult race in Le Mans we went to Montmeló for a test and there I felt good again with my bike
Step-by-step we will get back to the top.”
Having finished as runner-up in the Mugello race 12 months ago
Vinales is positive for the Italian round as he feels it suits his riding style on the factory Yamaha
“Mugello is a track that I like and where I've always had a lot of fun
We face the Italian Grand Prix optimistically and eager to find the perfect set-up for our bike
I will give my 100% and will try not to disappoint our fans.”
Despite his disappointment at Le Mans down in seventh place
Vinales actually moved up to second in the current MotoGP riders’ standings after Andrea Iannone
Johann Zarco and Andrea Dovizioso all crashed out ahead of him

Jorge Lorenzo saw any chance of overhauling team-mate Valentino Rossi for second in the world championship disappear when he was beaten by the Italian in Sunday's Malaysian MotoGP
The Movistar Yamaha riders finished second and third
behind race winner Andrea Dovizioso in the wet Sepang race
leaving Lorenzo 28-points from Rossi with only 25 still available at the Valencia finale
2016 will be his lowest points scoring season since his rookie 2008 campaign
Lorenzo began the season with three wins and two second places in the opening six rounds
finishing first in Qatar and second in Austin
Just [the crash in] Argentina was the only negative race
Catalunya was where Lorenzo struggled for grip and was eventually punted out of the race by Andrea Iannone
Then came a succession of difficulties in cold and damp conditions
I didn't feel great with the front tyre especially
So it has been hard to be constant like normally I am
"Luckily in the future Michelin will get experience of this year to make the better tyres
every rider will have less problems to be more competitive and can avoid some crashes
taking some experience from this year for the future will be important
Lorenzo remained mistake free in Sunday's malaysian race
but admitted his podium finish - some eight-seconds behind Rossi - owed much to the mistakes of others; Marc Marquez
Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Iannone all falling ahead of him
even though it didn't feel very good today
I felt worse than in qualifying with a little bit more water on the track
But stayed on the bike and I've been lucky because all the crashes were in front of me this time
and this gave me the opportunity to pass from sixth to third
"To have this podium in the rain is good for the confidence in these conditions
it's important to get another podium in my career."
Lorenzo now has one final race left for Yamaha before switching to Ducati
a team that has now won two races this season with Andrea Iannone (Austria) and Dovizioso
"Obviously the [Ducati] is progressing every year
being competitive more times in more tracks than the past
because Andrea has always been one of the best rain riders
and even when it was not competitive in the dry
it's a good sign to see every time more Ducatis in the front at most of the tracks."
It’s no secret that Montmelo has become a bit outdated for the current Formula 1 cars
but at least this year it has given us the satisfaction of eliminating the horrible final sector that we had been suffering from for too many years
it has returned to its original configuration from 30 years ago
Alonso and Sainz are returning to their home Grand Prix in a season where they have continuous possibilities
and we hope they can capitalize on all those opportunities by scoring points or who knows
What caught our attention the most about Montmelo last year were the numerous complaints received from the fans
with multiple medical incidents due to the heat and unjustified charges of all kinds
It was a chaos unworthy of a circuit of this level
Reliability issues with Leclerc’s car prevented Ferrari from celebrating a victory that they had a good chance of achieving early in the race
The outcome resulted in a Red Bull double win after Perez let Verstappen pass by team orders from the pit wall
Sainz finished fourth after a race with several mistakes

March 26.The Spanish driver revealed it was a steering issue that saw him slam into the barrier during tests and that McLaren has altered facets of the car as such
He also admitted there was very little he could do about it
Alonso has dismissed those claims ahead of his return to racing
Alonso insisted it wasn’t the finest spectacle to watch from the sidelines and reassuringly claimed there was nothing to worry about ahead of his return to action
Alonso Will Return at Malaysian Grand PrixMonday
March 23News off the Spaniard's clearance to return to racing was confirmed by Sky Sports News HQ:
Boullier: McLaren has 'Nothing to Hide'Friday, March 13McLaren racing director Eric Boullier earlier detailed why the team continues to keep information quiet surrounding the crash. As reported by Edd Straw of Autosport
Boullier says Alonso's medical files should be kept private
He also indicates tests on the car are yet to provide conclusive results
We first cared about Fernando being cared for by the doctors and
that is a personal thing so nobody has access to the medical files except the doctors
we have conducted all the investigations very transparently and openly with the FIA
we couldn't find anything wrong or which has implied the accident
We are still looking for further investigations
but we have given our report to the FIA and we are working with the FIA
Boullier added doctors are "happy" with Alonso's checks
Byron Young of the Mirror previously revealed that fear is growing over Alonso's potential return to Formula One following the crash
Mirror Sport has learned that doctors and crash investigators have not excluded the possibility the double champion may have blacked out BEFORE the accident that has ruled him out of the season-opener in Australia a week on Sunday
One eye witness who has seen footage of the smash at Turn 3 in Barcelona said far from losing control dramatically at high speed when he went off
Alonso’s car simply just drove off the track
Alonso's management team could not be contacted yesterday
and McLaren have refused to comment on his medical condition
McLaren previously confirmed Alonso won't compete in Mar
Alonso's Camp Reportedly Fear Car Failure, Demand ExplanationMonday, Mar. 2Spanish newspaper El Mundo risked the wrath of McLaren by suggesting Alonso is demanding an explanation for the crash, reported by grandprix.com:
The report said the 33-year-old "and his people are convinced something went wrong with the car" and want assurances the same thing will not happen again
El Mundo cited Circuit de Catalunya sources who said although CCTV recordings of the crash are low in quality
they do depict the "strange trajectory" of the car
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg offered his thoughts: "It would be interesting to say my opinion, but I cannot," said the German, via grandprix.com
Boullier recently denied press reports, saying, "I have read and heard a lot of things, especially from the Italian and Spanish press," per grandprix.com
"and 90 per cent of it is false."
publicly displaying his improved condition and stating his intention to make a quick return to action:
.css-az13ih{width:100%;aspect-ratio:3/2;border:none;}Dennis Confirms Alonso Lost Consciousness
26McLaren CEO Ron Dennis confirmed Alonso lost consciousness during the crash
McLaren originally expected Alonso to line up on the grid for the opening race of the season:
25Alonso was discharged from hospital more than three days on from his crash in Formula One testing
According to motorsport.com
the Spaniard was released on the afternoon of Feb
and Boullier had visited him earlier on in the day
As noted by the BBC
the former Ferrari man has returned to his family home to rest ahead of the new season
Abad suggested he doesn't possess the details of exactly what caused the accident. He says Alonso was conscious when he arrived at his side, per Chris Medland:
It’s information that I don’t have at the moment
I read information that is quite difficult to understand
When I arrived at the [medical centre] at the racetrack Fernando was conscious and fine in this respect
We don’t have images but it was very hard and he has to recover because it was a serious impact and Formula One is not a game
We have to be sure that he is ready to drive the car at the right time because we want to be competitive until the last race of the season
I think tomorrow he will be out of the hospital."
Alonso was said to have undergone medical tests on Feb. 23, according to Andrew Benson of BBC Sport
we have been carrying out a detailed analysis of the damage to Fernando’s car
we have been able to reach some firm conclusions
His car ran wide at the entry to Turn Three—which is a fast uphill right-hander—allowing it to run onto the Astroturf that lines the outside of the track
A consequent loss of traction caused a degree of instability
spitting it back towards the inside of the circuit
where it regained traction and struck the wall side-on
Our findings indicate that the accident was caused by the unpredictably gusty winds at that part of the circuit at that time
and which had affected other drivers similarly (eg
We can categorically state that there is no evidence that indicates that Fernando’s car suffered mechanical failure of any kind
We can also confirm that absolutely no loss of aerodynamic pressure was recorded
which fact indicates that the car did not suffer any aerodynamic loss
despite the fact that it was subjected to a significant level of g-force
we can also disclose that no electrical discharge or irregularity of any kind occurred in the car’s ERS system
After the incident Alonso's manager tweeted a photo of the driver from the hospital
Alonso Airlifted to Hospital After CrashSunday, Feb. 22McLaren previously released a statement on its official website:
while testing at the Circuit de Catalunya (Barcelona)
during the fourth and final day of the current test
Fernando Alonso's McLaren-Honda car left the track at Turn Three
causing the right-hand side of his car to strike the wall
Fernando was driven to the circuit's Medical Centre where the circuit's doctors gave him first aid
He was conscious and spoke with the doctors
as per usual procedure in such circumstances
he was then airlifted to hospital where he is undergoing precautionary checks
"Result of Alonso's CT scan is good and Fernando is fine—effectively un-injured," McLaren later announced, courtesy of Ted Kravitz
McLaren confirmed Alonso initially suffered a concussion, via Rachel Brookes of Sky Sports

Barcelona
Granollers and La RocaWe will see the important heritage of the region and experience the passion for motor racing
The trip we now begin in Vallès Oriental is focused on three towns close to each other
as well as the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya
we will discover interesting sites from Roman times
Later we'll go to Granollers to walk through the squares in the town centre
in La Roca del Vallès we will follow a prehistoric route but we will quickly return to the present to explore the shops of La Roca Village
IN COLLABORATION WITH BARCELONA ÉS MOLT MÉS AND THE DIPUTACIÓ DE BARCELONA
We start in Montmeló
a town that will delight lovers of archaeological sites
There are two important sites: Can Tacó is a unique political-military Roman enclave
dated between the late 2nd century BC and early 1st century BC
It stands out for its perimeter wall with two large cisterns to collect rainwater and extensive remains of wall decorations in a fine state of conservation
It is listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest by the Government of Catalonia
a Roman villa whose most notable element is a room that preserves the threshold of the front door
decorated with an exceptional piece of blue marble or limestone with white streaks and doorjamb holes
A journey to the past of the splendid Roman Empire to begin our exploration of the Vallès region
We have a radical change of theme but not of town. It is time for the smell of tarmac and to visit the famous Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya
The venue offers the opportunity to explore the facilities from inside on a tour of areas normally only frequented by drivers or mechanics and other parts that you may have seen on television but you can now discover for yourself
You will learn a little more about how a motorbike or Formula 1 race is organised
how the mechanics work or how the competition is supervised
Check the days when the guided tour is available
This afternoon we suggest a walk through the centre of the region's capital, Granollers
Plaça de la Porxada is the most photographed and renowned
when the Council of the town of Granollers commissioned a corn exchange from the Barcelona housemaster Bartolomé Brufalt
Plaça de la Porxada has witnessed the passage of thousands and thousands of locals and strangers and many important events
and the latter to Plaça de les Olles
Today the commercial spirit of the whole area is alive
and looking above the shops we will find very beautiful Gothic bay windows or in some cases if we look at the front doors we will see old porches or arcades
Plaça de Perpinyà (also known as Plaça dels Porcs)
Plaça de Maluquer i Salvador (also known as Plaça del Bestiar or de can Sínia) and Plaça de la Corona are other squares you must discover on this walk through Granollers
Very close to Granollers is La Roca del Vallès
One of the most outstanding and emblematic buildings in the town
is the castle on top a hill that still has the appearance of a fortress
We have references to it dating back to the 10th century
although it is known that it was extensively rebuilt in the late 15th century and restored in 1952
As it is a private castle and inhabited we cannot go inside but it is worth looking up and taking some photos
and given that we are in front of the gateways to the Serralada Litoral Park
we can take the Prehistoric Route of Céllecs on foot or by bike by following the signs of the PR C-36
which will take you to megalithic monuments such as the covered gallery of Can Gol
the dolmens of Céllecs and Can Planes
Constructions that show us that those ancestors already felt very much at home in this part of Vallès
© La Roca VillageDid you begin this trip on a Friday afternoon and so today is Sunday? You can still go shopping if that's what you want! La Roca Village is open every Sunday throughout the year and if you don't know this place on the outskirts of La Roca del Vallès we recommend a visit.

Thus they are joining the commitment to sustainability that Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya took on many years ago with the ISO 14001 certification
On Saturday and Sunday there will also be 3 sustainable mini-busses (Euro 6) offering service with stops at the Accreditation Centre and all of the Gates except Gate 5
In addition to these public transport options
> By bicycle: The Circuit encourages all fans to come out to the Grand Prix enjoying the different bicycle routes
bicyclists will have a free guarded parking place at Gate 6 in the South Area
All cyclists parking their bikes there will receive water on their arrival and an invitation to come and lap at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya during the BiCircuit cycle days
> Optimising the seats in private vehicles: Should there be the need to travel by private transport
the Circuit recommends optimising the use of the seats available in the vehicle.Buy your tickets

Four young people lost their lives in Spain on Sunday evening after being hit by a suburban train near the town of Montmeló in Barcelona
The four fatalities are three young women and a man
who were able to avoid the train and were uninjured
The train was travelling the line between Barcelona and Vic and the tragic accident happened at around 8.22pm between the stations of Parets del Vallès and Granollers
the seven young people were crossing the tracks at a point that was forbidden for pedestrians
a techno music festival was being held nearby and
it is believed that the group of young people were on their way to the event
But they crossed the tracks at an unauthorised point
on a bend and with poor visibility as it was already getting dark
when they were hit by the train operating the local service
The train driver was unable to brake in time to avoid hitting them
There were 170 people travelling on the train
Just after 11.30pm they were able to continue their journey by road as Renfe put on an alternative transport service while the track remained closed to traffic and the train was stopped until the initial investigations and the recovery of the bodies had been completed
It was "a deadly tragedy that takes our breath away," said Pere Aragonès
expressed her "deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased and her support for the emergency teams and services working on this very difficult situation"
It has been a long time since such a serious railway accident had been recorded in Catalonia
The last was in 2010 when 12 people were killed by a train near Castelldefels station
It also involved a group of young people crossing the tracks on foot in a prohibited area

Between June 2 and 4 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (Montmeló)
where the best F1 drivers in the world will race
The award is part of the F1 World Championship that starts next March 3 with the Bahrain Grand Prix
Barcelona has always been linked to the motor world
in one of its circuits (the so-called Autódromo de Terramar)
was where the Spanish Grand Prix was held for the first time that year
Nor can we forget the Pedralbes or Montjuïc circuits
which have been an important part of the Formula 1 championship worldwide
three new young promises of the track will be present
one of them is Australian Oscar Piastri who was signed by McLaren
the team with which he will race in the Catalan capital
Nyck de Vries from the Netherlands is another of this year’s promising young riders
who has just participated with great success in the Italian Grand Prix in an exceptional manner
Another participant will be 21-year-old American Logan Sargeant who will race with Williams Racing
In 2015 he won the FIA World Karting Championship
which at the time was also won by Fernando Alonso
Max Verstappen who will defend his current championship title
Spain will be represented by Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin team) and Carlos Sainz
The circuit is 4.62 km long with 16 curves (9 right turns and 7 left turns)
Montmeló is classified as an aerodynamic circuit with a great finishing straight
Its layout is expected to be divided into three large blocks
includes the finish straight and wide and long curves including the Renault curve
The second block is more complicated thanks to the Campsa curve
requires the pilots to demonstrate all their technical skills
This is the new scoreboard that will be released in 2023
It is a large digital display that will replace the traditional vertical counter.00
the control posts and the circuit buildings are expected to be covered with 18,480 square meters of photovoltaic panels as a commitment to environmental sustainability to ensure energy sufficiency
Montmeló has already signed with Formula 1 the continuity of the circuit for three more years
which guarantees the celebration of the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix until 2026
