The investigation into a nearly half-million-dollar Palm City burglary resulted in the arrest of one man and evidence of a string of other burglaries by "career criminals." (WPEC)
(CBS12) — Deputies have arrested Darel Monzon-Guerra
in connection to a meticulously planned heist inside a gated Palm City neighborhood
where thieves made off with nearly half a million dollars in luxury goods
is believed to be part of a Cuban burglary ring targeting homes across Florida
The burglary happened on January 18 in the Cobblestone Stuart West community of Palm City
Investigators say the crime was carefully orchestrated
allowing the suspects to get away with roughly $450,000 in luxury bags
a health and fitness entrepreneur with a large social media following
was hundreds of miles away on a ski trip with his wife and newborn baby when he got the call—his Mercedes has been found abandoned on Highway 714
“I immediately realized that my house was robbed,” Iacovone said
Investigators say the burglars knew exactly what they were doing
The suspects cut off the alarm system and shut down surveillance cameras before ransacking the home
Iacovone says it’s the violation of his privacy that’s most unsettling
Detectives say this was no random break-in
Deputies believe Iacovone's social media presence may have played a role in the crime
giving the burglars insight into his schedule and address
“The house was hit between midnight and three o’clock in the morning,” said Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek
all the surveillance equipment was shut down

Sheriff Budensiek revealed that the burglars took extreme precautions to avoid detection
the suspects parked their car on the side of I-95
entered the community through a broken fence
and walked nearly a mile through a golf course to reach the home
authorities tracked Monzon-Guerra to his home in Lee County
where they recovered a fraction of the stolen items—including evidence that he may be connected to additional burglaries across the state
“He was obstinate and arrogant when they encountered him,” Budensiek said
One key piece of evidence still unaccounted for—a red Supreme Louis Vuitton duffle bag
Investigators believe it could lead them to more suspects
As deputies continue working to dismantle this burglary ring
Iacovone is offering a cash reward for any information that could help track down the remaining suspects
Guerra is being held in the Martin County Jail on a $1.25 million bond
Authorities are urging residents to be mindful of what they share online
as criminals are constantly looking for their next target
“If I learned anything from this,” Iacovone said

Monzon did not have access to Future Business Leader of America (FBLA), a student organization, at the high school that he attended. However, he is a past member of Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), which is also a student organization that prepares students for a future in leadership and entrepreneurship.
Monzon is fond of playing sports, primarily football, walking his dog and above all spending time with his family. This is part of who Monzon is but he is also known to be a well-mannered, passionate and hardworking person. Specifically, Pam Klaus speaks only highly of Aden.
As the director of the Center for Franchise Development, Pam had a chance to meet Aden at an FBLA meeting.
“He came to an FBLA meeting, and he was involved in a similar organization in his high school, so very passionate about building leadership skills, working on competitive events, and things like that,” said Klaus.
Monzon enjoyed the challenge of immersing himself in a new culture and community. He took this change with a positive outlook and immediately began networking and creating connections not only at MWSU, but also in the St. Joseph community.
“I’ve liked a lot of the community service we’ve done, just getting out there, getting to know issues in the community, and getting involved with a lot of different people,” said Monzon
Monzon has recently stepped up and taken on extra responsibility as an FBLA State officer. Monzon is in charge of organizing networking events. Monzon is expected to reach out to highschoolers and help to create a path to successfully integrate into collegiate FBLA.
The upcoming State Leadership Conference is one of the events that Monzon has taken responsibility for. Despite the short turnaround time, Monzon has managed to excel.
Monzon not only proves himself by fostering leadership and trustworthiness, but by also balancing his school, work and social life. Monzon is not only a FBLA state officer but a student athlete and a worker at the Alumni center located in Leah Spratt Hall. Monzon manages to find balance by ensuring that he has a set time and date for all of the tasks that he is responsible for.
“He’s doing things that he’s never done before, and that is kind of a true testament of his willingness to take on challenges and be uncomfortable,” said Klaus. “Being responsible for this event, there was a short turnaround time, and he has excelled at every level.”
Monzon’s term runs through May 2026, his skill set is only expected to grow as well as his network and connection to the St. Joseph community. Monzon’s process of adjustment to the culture of MWSU is testament to the importance of hard work and community involvement, qualities that have proven to pave his way towards success.

the process of talks between the bishopric of Barbastro Monzón and the Opus Dei prelature regarding Torreciudad has gone through several stages
On July 17, 2023, the bishop of the small Aragonese diocese of Barbastro Monzón published a series of "Appointments and some changes to move forward together for better pastoral care." which included the appointment of "José Mairal Villellas
rector of the Sanctuary of Torreciudad to (...) be responsible for the pastoral and ministerial care until the existing canonical situation between both institutions is regularized"
At that time, Omnes published an article which explained the reasons given by both parties for
considering the appointment as legitimate and
for not doing so and announcing a careful study of the matter
As a result of this appointment, the process that had been underway for several years between the Prelature of Opus Dei and the Aragonese diocese to reach a new agreement regarding the sanctuary and the consequent problems of understanding that had arisen along the way
issues that directly concern two legal spheres converge: the power to appoint a rector and to make the new church a diocesan sanctuary
and the validity of the emphyteutic census contract for the cession of the old hermitage and the image of the Virgin of the Angels of Torreciudad
It should be borne in mind that what is nowadays identified as Torreciudad comprises
the church designed by the team of architects led by Heliodoro Dols
This construction was made possible thanks to the donations of the faithful from different places encouraged by Opus Dei
This new church belongs to the Canonical Foundation of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Angels of Torreciudad
Both the image of the Virgin of Torreciudad and the old hermitage are the property of the diocese of Barbastro-Monzón
by means of what is known as contract emphyteutic (a type of contract used in law to assign in perpetuity the useful domain of a property or object under the conditions agreed by the parties) are assigned in perpetuity to the civil entity Inmobiliaria General Castellana
As noted in the article published in August 2024 in the same media
one of the points of friction between the bishop of Barbastro-Monzón is the consideration of the validity of this contract
signed between Opus Dei and the bishopric of Barbastro in 1962
in which it was agreed that the useful domain of the hermitage and the image of the Virgin would be transferred in perpetuity
Ángel Pérez Pueyo does not recognize the validity of those agreements
while Opus Dei defends that they are fully valid and should be the basis for any legal modification
Legal sources consulted by this media point out that
it is difficult to defend the nullity of these agreements
which were made following the pertinent legal guidelines at all times
these differences of criteria are what caused the Opus Dei Prelature not to attend the conciliation act requested by the Bishopric and set for December 20
according to the basis on which it was presented
its attendance at that conciliation act would imply acceptance of the nullity of the 1962 agreements
In relation to the decision to appoint a rector for Torreciudad
the diocese of Barbastro-Monzón referred to the need to "regularize" the canonical situation of the sanctuary as a reason for this appointment
although it did not specify the nature of this situation
the Diocese of Barbastro-Monzón itself pointed out that "in the case of Torreciudad
and in order to regularize its canonical situation with the diocese
the Prelature was asked to propose to this bishopric a list of three priests to make the appointment of the rector (c
and not having received this list after several requests
we have opted for the appointment of José Mairal
to whose parish belongs the hermitage-sanctuary of Torreciudad".
Why did Opus Dei not present a list of three priests
The Prelature responded to this question by stressing that the statutes in force for Torreciudad specify that "the appointment of the rector and the designation of the priests in charge of pastoral care corresponds to the Regional Vicar of the Prelature."
These statutes are based on the same canon that the Bishopric pointed out
since it determines that "the diocesan Bishop freely appoints the rector of a church
without prejudice to the right of election or presentation
when this right legitimately belongs to someone; in this case
it is up to the diocesan Bishop to confirm or institute the rector"
This is the procedure that has been followed in Torreciudad
Since there has been no change in the legal status of Torreciudad and meetings are being held to reach a new agreement
the "Prelature understands that it is not necessary to present a list of three candidates"
Faced with the decision of the bishop of Barbastro-Monzón in July 2023 to declare the office of rector of Torreciudad vacant and proceed to appoint a priest of the Diocese
the Opus Dei prelature decided to appeal to the Holy See
the rector appointed by Bishop Pérez Pueyo began to carry out this task
which translated into a weekly celebration of Holy Mass in the church
the status of the Torreciudad temple is still that of a semi-public oratory
Making Torreciudad a diocesan sanctuary had long been the desire of the Prelature and the origin of the negotiations that began in 2020 with the bishopric of Barbastro Monzón
With the status of diocesan sanctuary, the temple erected in 1975 would be governed according to the existing regulations The bishop of Barbastro-Monzón may approve the new statutes and establish an agreement with the Prelature that will include the appointment of the rector by the bishop
in accordance with canons 556 and 557 of the Code of Canon Law
These canons foresee that the appointment of the rector corresponds to the diocesan bishop and this would be done
after the presentation of a list of three candidates by the Opus Dei prelature of the possible rector"
as the Opus Dei prelature pointed out in an extensive document of questions and answers last March.
the bishop of the diocese of Barbastro Monzón announced that Torreciudad will become a "diocesan sanctuary when appropriate" and that he had consulted the Dicastery for the Clergy during his stay in Rome last November 28
during the meeting that all the Spanish bishops held with Pope Francis to analyze the situation of the Spanish seminaries
This news suggested that there was a green light from the Vatican to move forward in this process but
there has been no further information.
The conversations between the Prelature of Opus Dei and the Bishopric of Barbastro continue to this day
It should not be forgotten that the new church has been a turning point in the spiritual
social and economic revitalization of the area
the positions of both sides do not seem to find a satisfactory solution
the Bishopric of Barbastro asked "to restore the carving of the image of the image of Our Lady of Torreciudad
located in the Hermitage of Torreciudad" and "the reversion to the Diocese of the Hermitage
Hostelry and annexed dependencies object of the contract of emphyteutic census elevated to public deed on September 24
the purpose of which was the transfer of the useful domain by the Diocese of Barbastro of the property consisting of the Sanctuary destined to the worship of Nuestra Señora de Torreciudad
together with its guest house and annexed premises
in favor of the mercantile company INMOBILIARIA GENERAL CASTELLANA
This would involve de facto a declaration of nullity of the agreements signed in the 1960s
Following the usual trend in the management of diocesan sanctuaries
the Bishopric would have to take charge of the maintenance
security and pastoral and economic care of this Hermitage
In addition, the diocese requested the Opus Dei a financial contribution to the bishopric that the prelature considered "disproportionate"
taking into account that the income generated by the ordinary activity of the sanctuary "is not enough to cover 30 % of the expenses
and the Association Patronato de Torreciudad has to take charge of finding resources to cover the rest of the expenses"
A figure that also has to be agreed upon in the conversations between the prelature and the diocese
the Torreciudad process is today with the engine running but in low gear and awaiting a prompt and fair solution.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
– The battle over 5G coverage is intensifying in a southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood
Residents in the Kendale Lakes area are frustrated to find more towers popping up in their communities without warning and some are taking matters into their own hands
By the time neighbors realized what the work was for
a 32-foot concrete pole sprouted inches from Lissette Monzon’s yard
“Nobody let us know that 5G towers were coming into our communities,” Monzon said
If you are next to one of the sites where they’re going
rented a boom lift and dove into public records
I found that they were scouting my house since 2022,” she said
it was May 2019 that three telecom companies contracted to install “small cell antennas” to expand 5G on rights of ways around the county
describes it as “inconspicuously installed.”
“I believe we should be involved in this process,” Miami-Dade Commissioner Raquel Regalado said
local leaders expressed frustration that a new state law stops their or any local control of where the towers go
“Our hands have been tied,” Miami-Dade Commissioner Anthony Rodriguez said
Miami-Dade Commissioner Eileen Higgins encouraged residents “to go to every town hall” of every state representative
“My concern is for my children and their exposure rate living this close to a 5G tower,” Monzon said
Monzon worries about radio frequency danger
with signs describing danger at certain heights
There are also concerns about property values and birds — but no one’s addressing them

SDSUs director of Student Affairs Research and Assessment was a hidden face behind the progress on some of the universitys highest priorities
Walking into Rey Monzon’s office on the upper floor of Student Services West eight or so years ago
statistics professor Richard Levine marveled at the whiteboard covering the wall to his left
It was a huge flowchart in which the assessment chief had mapped out all of his statistical sources at San Diego State University: how they related to one another
A lineup of loose-leaf binders stuffed with figures sat on a file drawer nearby
director of Student Affairs Research and Assessment
moved offices when his position became part of Analytical Studies and Institutional Research
who as a professor of statistics regularly drew upon Monzon’s knowledge
“He knew everything about the university data.”
master’s and joint doctoral degree at SDSU
taught classes and was a leader both in the campus and the region’s Filipino communities
grew up on the Chula Vista street where Monzon lived as a young adult and remembers hearing his garage bands rehearse
She reconnected with him after she took a position in the College of Sciences and described him as “a mentor
“He was a leader in equity and inclusiveness
as evidenced by his community work,” Lopez said
a special way about him that he could easily partner across divisions (on) student success initiatives.”
associate dean for the College of Sciences
said Monzon was regularly sought after for help in grant applications
finding the data needed to justify requests from foundations and other critical sources of outside financial support
both Atkins and Lopez credit Monzon for understanding the meaning of the numbers he collected to assist in initiatives aimed at improving student success at SDSU
especially among underrepresented groups previously subject to high failure rates
“He knew how to pull the data together; he knew that was just one part of the story.”
Atkins said it’s no stretch to attribute at least some of the university’s success in raising retention and graduation rates to Monzon’s analysis of datasets behind the effort
Monzon became particularly aware of problems for students living off campus
who may not have had access to as many campus-based services for student success
His findings led to a push for supplemental instruction opportunities
including the College of Science’s STEM-Start summer program
which have helped students succeed in challenging STEM courses
“We made our biggest gains among the Latino students particularly when we developed programs specifically aimed at commuter students,” Atkins said
“and I think that was really something that Rey was behind.”
Reynaldo Inocente Monzon was born in 1957 at Naval Station Sangley Point
base at Manila Bay in the Philippines where his father was stationed
After moving to the Bay Area in 1959 his family returned to San Diego’s Encanto neighborhood in 1964; he graduated from Montgomery High School in the South Bay in 1975
Education was a frequent topic around the Monzon dinner table
His brother Ben said Monzon always believed “learning is a lifelong process.”
earning a bachelor’s degree in 1980 and a master’s in 1984
he completed a joint doctoral program with Claremont Graduate University in higher education research
His doctoral dissertation on the collegiate experiences of Filipino American students and the socio-cultural factors impacting “their adjustment and persistence” foreshadowed the specialty he brought to his professional career at SDSU in 2004
His arrival followed previous research positions for the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center
the County of San Diego and the San Diego Community College District
Monzon was a faculty adviser to AB Samahan
SDSU’s Filipino and Filipino American cultural organization
He co-founded an alumni chapter in 2012 and served as president of the organization
aimed at keeping in touch with former members of the student group
“We're acknowledging what they've established here and we’re saying
'We need you to continue that,’” Monzon said in an interview shortly after the alumni group was created
'You did a lot in terms of the success of the student organization and we value that and want to help continue that
visionary leader” in the Filipino community
His work with numerous organizations included FILAMEDA
the Filipino American Educators Association of San Diego County
In 2005 the group spearheaded a drive that achieved passage of AB 420
allowing K-12 teachers to earn a credential in Filipino language instruction
the bill forestalled a threat that the classes would have been driven out of California schools under a certification provision of the No Child Left Behind Act
A lifelong interest in music led to involvement with several bands
A year-end holiday Zoom party among SDSU institutional research employees featured a guess-the-song game across multiple decades and “Rey knew all of them,” Levine said
marked his passing by naming its joint doctoral achievement award in his honor
In addition to his wife of nearly 30 years
the Out N About sat down for an interview with film maker
about their movie “The Wonderful Counsellor” which premieres this Sunday
Peter Sagnia is the Director and Producer of the movie
but they did have a script writer to develop the story lines
It wasn’t an intentional idea to set out on a story that touches upon mental health
but rather he was inspired by other series
like “In Treatment” and “Huff” in particular
Sagnia said he wanted to have a story about a therapist in the Caribbean
due to shame that the Caribbean culture has in regard to mental therapy and sharing feelings
Sagnia brought a bit of conflict into the storyline by having the main character
a therapist is not supposed to impose any religion on their patients
so you will see how this adds another dynamic to the story
This movie is actually Season One of a five-part miniseries
The miniseries segments are combined together for a movie style “Theatrical Release” that runs for a total of 1 hour and 50 minutes
The “Red Carpet Premiere” this Sunday is set to pull in approximately 300 persons
It will also be the actors’ first time seeing the movie and viewing their performances
including Prime Minister Luc Marcelina; Minister of Education Culture Youth & Sport
There are also showings scheduled for February 14 and 15 at Caribbean Cinemas
and there may be a later screening at Belair Community Center
Also under consideration is a run at the theatres in the Netherlands
The production did get some help with funding from Culture Funds with the final post production and editing stages
SER and WIB in terms of renting out the movie screens for the premiere
so he is desperately trying to build up his client base
Edsel’s first role was in “Here comes the Groom” a film that was written and produced by Latoya Lake
Edsel was able to audition and fall into this role of Michael Wonder
Edsel himself also works on writing scripts and enjoys versatility of becoming different characters
He originates from South Reward and relates to his character because he also enjoys helping others
and being patient in understanding different personalities and where they are coming from
he likes to help others improve in the same way a psychologist is trying to help people improve their mental perspective
Jenise Diaz plays the role of Chloe Wonder
Chloe is the owner of a very successful coffee shop
Her success as a businesswoman puts strain on the marriage
Chloe is finding it difficult to deal with her husband
who is a bit clueless to his marital status and their home life
This is her first official role as an actress
but she has done a short film for the Women’s Health Desk on “Teen Dating Violence” and some other smaller TelEm commercials
Jenise grew up in Simpson Bay and is excited that her acting career is starting to blossom
She is attracted to roles and characters that sort of push the boundaries and can take her out of her comfort zone
because that is how she can learn and develop her craft further
Jenise is working on a novel and is interested in taking a screen writing master class
She enjoys writing poems and short stories as well
Jenise relates to her character through the drive towards success
but she has been very motivated to move forward with her career goals and achievements
a man named Nathan who lost his job and is having suicidal thoughts
a school kid is struggling with her relationship with her mother
There is an elderly couple struggling with the fear of Covid and illness and still trying to enjoy life
Maarteners and some of the real life challenges they face
The other actors in this film are Rita Gumbs
Did you face any challenges during the filming period
The group started filming during and after Covid
which means it was a tough and emotional time for everyone
Working on a creative project such as this created a common goal and a sense of teamwork
Jenise had to overcome personal challenges during the filming of this movie
her father suffered two strokes in 2020 and then passed away in 2021
which was nerve racking and challenging for him
some of the characters moved off island and production had to be adjusted accordingly
The main cast became very close with long work days
Sagnia’s wife Rose-Anne was a cheerleader of encouragement
which was a key part to staying fuelled up and happy to continue acting
Call time was 7:00am and they would often work until later in the evenings
So it was even a challenge to turn around and return the following day
They had rehearsals leading up to the shooting days – that was no joke – everyone had to come 100 percent prepared
Edsel would practice his lines even while driving around with visualizing the character dynamics
Peter really feels that these two actors are wonderfully talented and even humble; he truly enjoys working with them
Peter pulled together this creative team of actors after the Covid period
They got strength from one another’s passions and intensity and really dedicated themselves to this collaborative project
They didn’t have gaffers and all the fancy equipment that a real Hollywood production would have
but they were able to work with what they have
but it’s important that we put our island and the Caribbean out there to at least get a presence on the main stage of the filming industry
How did you seek inspiration for your character
The entire cast sat down and we went through our characters and the development of these personalities
They were able to pull from their own real life experiences with relationships and handling the fear of Covid
their interpretation of their own characters
He says you get more authentic performances when they can seamlessly slip into the role
He encourages his actors to speak in their actual accent since they are from St
We had a private caterer on set that provided excellent meals
Edsel is actually also a personal trainer and has a food business called Healthy Eats
Jenise has a Latin background so she loves dancing – in particular
she is a fan of salsa dancing at Soggy Dollar Bar on Tuesday nights
Jenise is always memorized when she is on a boat ride
to see our own landscapes and the clear water
Pinel Island and Orients Bay along with water sports
Edsel: “A man’s who will exceed his failure
is already a great man” so as long as you keep pushing
Jenise: I have been leaning towards my faith and trust in universal timing during the difficult times in life
Proverb 3:5: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart
Sagnia: Maturity and age result in not overthinking and judging oneself too much
I am always in a ‘learning mode’ to stay creative and pick up new strategies and filming techniques

I think the hospitality industry could be more sustainable in staff training
I am very passionate about training and it is something I love to do
Sometimes companies do not spend time training team members who they feel will leave rather than training them to ensure they will stay

Blame on the continued tepid performance of the market since the start of the year has shifted to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) hierarchy
starting from its president and chief executive officer
The Abra Mining controversy involved the illegal issuances of AR shares for five long years — from 2015 to 2019 — totaling 169.05 billion shares
far exceeding the company’s authorized shares
“the PSE has since then remained tight-lipped about its findings.” The matter became even more a puzzle with “the PSE passing on the responsibility to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
which has similarly avoided addressing the issue.” This left the PSE to consequently lose its credibility to maintain integrity and transparency in regulating the market.
the PSE is blamed for the market’s dire predicament. When the market closed last January 17 at the end of the third week of trading for 2025
it has slipped into negative territory by no less than 2.71% or 176.67 points at 6,352.12
Discontent is expected to intensify as the market’s tepid performance goes on
Proud of being considered as one of the oldest bourses in Asia
the PSE was named the “Best Stock Exchange in Southeast Asia for 2021.” The award was conferred by Alpha Southeast Asia
whose claim to fame was its record as the first investment magazine established to focus on Southeast Asia since 2007
which was seemingly clueless of the Abra Mining scandal at the time. The anomalous trading “included foreigners to buy AR shares from January to February 2021 when Abra Mining accounted for more than 70 percent of daily transactions.”
It was not exactly the market’s best and perfect year. The PSEi closed at the time at 7,122.63
down 0.24% year-on-year (YOY). Nevertheless
total market capitalization was up 13.8% at P18.1 trillion and average daily value traded was P9.0 billion
up 22.5%. This happened regardless of the net selling activity of foreign investors whose total value turnover
was considerably low at 36.05% only of total market transactions.
The market was lifted by the following counters: the services sector
up 10.8%; and the mining & oils sector
up 0.8%. The holding firms and property sectors weighed down the market when their performances slipped 7.4% and 12.1%
There were eight new companies listed at the time
(DDMPR); Monde Nissin Corporation (MONDE); Filinvest REIT Corp
(ALLDY); Medlines Distributors Incorporated (MEDIC); and SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC)
Total capital raised (funding raised from primary shares only) was estimated at almost P160.0 billion. There were 276 listed companies and 125 active trading participants
The president and CEO at the time was no other than the current president and CEO of the bourse
the PSE came out with additional market-making initiatives. It revised its listing rules and rolled out the “web-based platform called PSE EASy (Electronic Allocation System) that will enable local small investors (LSI) to subscribe to shares online whenever there is an Initial Public Offering (IPO).” The LSI program required companies conducting an IPO to allocate ten percent (10%) of their offering to local investors. But local investors can only subscribe to not more than P100,000
The PSE tightened the “Backdoor Listing Rules” and likewise amended the “Lock-Up” requirements. It also permanently closed the trading floor
total market capitalization dropped to P16.56 trillion
even if the number of listed companies grew to 286
but with only 124 actively trading participants
Ten (10) new companies were listed at the time
(CREIT); Bank of Commerce (BNCOM); CTS Global Equity Inc
(BALAI); LFM Properties corporation (LPC); and Premiere Power REIT Corporation (PREIT)
foreign transactions leaped to 40.76% of total market value turnover
51.98% of which were selling transactions that foreign investors ended as net sellers
Partly because of the foregoing development
while average daily value turnover dropped by 16.5% to P6.09 Billion. Nonetheless
total market capitalization slightly rose to P16.74 trillion
up 1.1%. The financial and services sectors powered the market from falling down lower
with the listing of three new additional companies
namely: Alterenergy Holdings Corporation (ALTER); Upson International Corp
(UPSON); and Repower Energy Development Corporation (REDC). However
the market ended the year with 283 listed companies and 124 actively trading participants
Foreign investors remained net sellers for the third year while their overall transactions rose further to 43.91% of total market transactions
the market was on better grounds. It was up 1.22% as it closed at 6,528.79. Total market capitalization rose to P20.01 trillion
while average daily value transaction also slightly rose by 0.1% to P6.10 billion
industrial and services sectors that lifted the market
Total capital raised was down by 46.2% to P75.78 billion
Foreign investors ended as net sellers for the fourth year but their overall transactions rose higher to 46.22% of total market transactions
the PSE implemented the volume-weighted average price (VWAP) — VWAP trading — which is a technical analysis tool to help traders and investors make decisions about buying or selling a stock; launched PSE EASy Phase 2 with integrated electronic payment system; and hosted the first on-site Road to IPO forum for potential listing applicants
This resulted in the further listing of three new companies
Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC)
the PSE hierarchy has not been sleeping on the job to promote the growth and development of the market
It has been working hard and diligently since it received that prestigious award in 2021
it is also undeniable that market transaction is shrinking
Average daily value turnover has decreased by 32.0%
as it has gone down to P6.10 billion from P9.0 Billion since 2021
foreign investors have always been net sellers
that they are not reliable accounts for growing the market
Their sway in influencing the direction of the market has increased as their trading activities had risen to 46.22% (or even higher at times) of total market transactions
the number of local stock investment accounts have not grown
The PSE is said to be simply wrong in how it has been doing its job
It has lost sight of its real role in the paradigm of public offerings
the PSE has not given enough effort in the listing of small cap companies
that the small board has not grown all these years
It has not been also successful in attracting family-owned and -controlled companies
who are ripe targets to benefit from listing publicly at the same time allowing the investing public a chance to have a piece of their profitable operation
The bourse has been also acting like the underwriters and issuers. Public offerings are scheduled one at a time in order to ensure market monopoly and success as if this is its main concern
which is essentially to give investors the opportunity to have as many public offerings as possible to choose from at any time. It should leave the underwriters and issuers in worrying about the scheduling and timing of their own public offerings
the bourse has been pliant in the pricing of stock issues in favor of the interest of underwriters and issuers
instead of ferreting a good offering price for the investing public. Recall that a majority of the stock offerings over the last five years are now trading below their original initial public offering prices
This is because the offering prices are maxed out
the PSE should increase the percentage of allocation for LSIs as one form of increasing the number of investors and investing accounts
the number of trading accounts in the market have been overtaken by a mile
which is notoriously volatile and riskier than stocks

Philippine equities are expected to extend their bull run into 2025 on cooling inflation and monetary easing
according to bourse president and CEO Ramon Monzon
still has more room to grow and is projected to break into the 8,000 to 8,600 target range set by analysts
The forecasts suggest a gain of 9% to 17% based on yesterday’s close
“Supported by a steady decline in inflation
we remain positive about achieving the forecast for the PSEi,” Monzon said at a capital markets forum on Wednesday
Monzon declared his bullish outlook even as the PSEi headed for a loss and joined a global equities selloff triggered by the IMF’s concerns about the worldwide economic outlook
US Fed officials’ comments on the potential for higher long-term interest rates
and the risks of a wider conflict in the Middle East
After sinking to a seven-month low in June
entering a bull market in September as investors loaded up on equities due to slowing inflation and in anticipation of the central bank’s policy rate cuts
The anticipated cut in policy rates arrested foreign investors’ waning appetite and reversed the exodus of overseas funds
resulting in an $83.2 million year-to-date net inflow in the stock market by the end of September
Foreign investors had withdrawn a net $964.4 million earlier in 2023
Monzon is optimistic that foreign investors will close 2024 as net buyers of local equities and that this trend will continue into next year
making it the top-performing equities benchmark in Southeast Asia and the second-best performer after Taiwan’s stock exchange index
which has advanced more than 30% this year on expectations that the rising use of artificial intelligence will boost demand for semiconductors and benefit its chip manufacturers
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) has identified six companies that are potential candidates for initial public offerings (IPOs) within the next 12 months
according to president and CEO Ramon Monzon
These companies are participating in the Philippine Stock Exchange’s (PSE) Listing Engagement and Assistance Program (LEAP)
a complimentary initiative designed to assist firms in preparing for capital raising through initial public offerings (IPOs)
Monzon said during a capital markets forum on Wednesday
but it all depends on market conditions and the management of the companies,” Monzon said
LEAP is one of Monzon’s several initiatives to broaden the 97-year-old stock market
which has been left behind by its regional peers in the number of listed companies and value turnover
despite being the oldest in Southeast Asia
The Philippines had 284 listed companies as of the end of September
trailing behind Vietnam’s 394 and accounting for about a quarter of Malaysia’s 1,021 companies
the Philippines is the least liquid market among ASEAN’s major stock exchanges
Its stock turnover is less than 15% of Malaysia’s $754.99 million
positioning it as the second lowest among ASEAN’s six major economies
Monzon initiated LEAP in the fourth quarter of 2020
coinciding with the first year of the pandemic
which disrupted the global economy and led to a 3% contraction—its steepest recession since World War II
While LEAP participants are primarily small and medium enterprises
Monzon’s nursery program represents a potential lifeline for a stock market in need of IPOs
Monzon’s nursery program celebrated its first graduates in 2022
including solar power pioneer Raslag Corp.
and stock broker CTS Global Equity Group Inc
Cebu-based gasoline retailer Top Line Business Development Corp.
This listing will bring the total number of IPOs for the year to four
when only three companies went public—a 14-year low
largely due to rising inflation and interest rates overshadowing the global economic recovery from COVID-19
as companies rushed to raise capital with the pandemic’s conclusion
LEAP provides one-on-one sessions with companies to discuss growth plans and create an IPO roadmap
It also connects prospective issuers with advisers to prepare for their IPO

was flying back to Manila after dropping off Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa in Baguio City
Her Robinson R44 light helicopter went down around 5 p.m

Thanks to having relatives here, Daniel and his family moved to Calgary 30 years ago; he says he was “Born in Peru — Made in Canada.”
Things were going well, but Monzon has always been presented with disappointments to overcome. He was excited to learn he had been accepted into an oil company’s management program, then frustrated because he was later told that the program meant being involved in all aspects of the business, and his disability would not allow him experience in the field due to insurance costs.
During this time, Monzon also built up his own business network by volunteering with TEDx Calgary.
He found employment selling construction software, then office supplies and software solutions with Great Northern Data, and with Supply Chain Canada of Alberta as director of digital and customer experience. By 2015, Monzon had decided to go on his own and launched Creative/Social, a management consulting firm helping people and organizations bring ideas to life. The company grew by advising a growing number of clients who asked, “What can you do for us?”
A couple of businessmen he worked with, Steve Blair and Jesse Lalli of Blair and Co. — a marketing and advertising firm specializing in real estate companies and mid-size business — found a synergy in their ideas in working for not-for-profits and, in 2020, along with technology and intellectual property lawyer Julian Dobre, they co-founded Catapult Startups.
CEO Monzon says it has been able to help many newcomer entrepreneurs who have been held back by not knowing Canadian business customs, lacking credit history and without the benefits of networking with other entrepreneurs and investors. He adds that 80 per cent may have enough capital but lack the wherewithal to survive, and quit to accept unskilled jobs for others. The other 20 per cent need capital and come to Catapult for help in obtaining it.
Monzon and his co-founders have put together an impressive group of partners, including RBC, Economic Development Lethbridge and Calgary Innovation Coalition, collaborating to help new Canadian entrepreneurs become successful. They have already caught the attention of municipalities in other parts of southern Alberta, pushing ahead with their goal to help launch many more immigrant-founded businesses.

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) is facing growing scrutiny amid concerns over its performance and leadership
The PSE has seen a consistent decline in average daily turnover
dropping from P9 billion in 2021 to just P6.1 billion in 2024
While foreign transactions have increased
foreign investors have continued to offload more stocks than they have purchased
coupled with waning local investor confidence
with the number of local stock accounts showing little growth
Engaging retail investors remains a challenge for the PSE
which is crucial for stimulating market activity
Columnist Den Somera points to PSE president and CEO Ramon S
with many blaming his inability to drive market growth and ensure effective regulation
Somera believes the tipping point came with a series of high-profile missteps
including the controversy surrounding Abra Mining’s unregistered share sale
which has sparked widespread dissatisfaction and further damaged the PSE’s credibility
Somera highlighted the Abra Mining scandal as one of the most glaring issues to have plagued the PSE in recent years
issued 169.05 billion shares— far exceeding its authorized capital
These unregistered shares were sold to the public
Although the PSE launched an investigation
This mishandling of a major regulatory issue only deepened concerns about the PSE’s ability to effectively oversee the market
is the PSE’s neglect of small-cap companies
and family-owned businesses—often viewed as key IPO candidates—continue to avoid the exchange
which many believe has been skewed in favor of underwriters and issuers
often leaving investors with losses when stocks trade below their offering prices
what can be done to turn things around for the PSE
Somera said the PSE needs to focus on attracting more small-cap companies and offering a wider variety of investment opportunities
Encouraging family-owned businesses to list could be a game-changer
as these companies often bring significant growth potential
Somera also suggests that the PSE should expand access to IPOs for local small investors
which would diversify the investor pool and inject new energy into the market
the PSE risks remaining stagnant and irrelevant
If it can refocus on its core mission—effectively regulating the market and offering a wider range of investment opportunities — there’s still hope for a recovery

Philippine Stock Exchange CEO Ramon Monzon announced that derivatives will be among the instruments available for trading starting in 2026
He aims to introduce two new products within the next two years to attract investors and enhance trading activity
Monzon revealed that the first derivatives product will be PSEi index futures
with the benchmark PSEi serving as the underlying asset
“The introduction of derivatives is expected to enhance transparency and liquidity by providing market-based pricing information,” said Monzon
He targets derivative products by the first quarter of 2026
The trading of derivatives will commence a year after the goal set by Monzon to introduce Global Philippine Depositary Receipts (GPDRs) in the stock market by the first quarter of 2025
peso-denominated instruments that represent an economic interest without voting rights in an underlying asset security listed overseas
give their holders the option to convert them into shares of the underlying security
broadening the financial instruments may take time to bear fruit
for a stock market that is the smallest among ASEAN’s six major economies but the oldest in Southeast Asia
The PSE has yet to execute its first short-selling trade
a year after Monzon succeeded in introducing it—an initiative that the bourse and his predecessors struggled to implement
Even with the other initiatives Monzon pursued—from relaxing IPO rules to reducing the floor on brokers’ commissions—stock trading continued to shrink
indicating the magnitude of work that the MBA graduate from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business is still facing in growing the Philippine equities market
the PSE is conducting “learning sessions” with other stock exchanges and foreign financial firms

the game in which he blossomed was the last he would ever play
The second game featured a pitching matchup of two career minor leaguers
4.74 ERA in 13 games for the season) started for the Co-Pilots
7.88 ERA in three games for the season) took the mound for the Pioneers
Elmira scored a run in the fifth on a single by designated hitter Brad Hawkins, but Newark got the run back in the bottom half. Second baseman Elliott Franklin singled, stole second, advanced to third on a double-play ball, and scored on a passed ball to make it 5-1.17
Elmira’s bats awoke in the sixth, scoring four runs to drive out starter Bannister. Left fielder Larry Hyman began the rally with a solo home run. Two Newark errors and a walk resulted in another run, and pinch-hitter John Edwards followed with a two-run single. Reliever Gary Fritch finally shut down the rally, but Elmira had tied the game 5-5.18
Just as they had in the fifth, the Co-Pilots answered the Elmira rally with runs of their own, and Monzon both started and finished the rally. He began the inning with a groundball single, stole second for his only career stolen base, then moved around to score on two more singles.19
Fritch held Elmira off the scoreboard in the seventh to get the win
surrendering seven runs in his only inning of work
Bannister and Fritch held Elmira to only five hits
The Co-Pilots’ scheduled games on Sunday, July 11, and Monday, July 12, were rained out.21 Monzon reportedly called his mother on the night of July 11 to say he was doing well and was glad to be on the Newark team.22

The New York Red Bulls’ new left-footed center-back hails from Uruguay

journalist Felipe Miguel from ESPN Uruguay shared this bit about Monzón: “ The 19-year-old defender debuted in August and has a great physical presence and agility
One of the best pieces of news for La Franja (Danubio FC) during the year.”

Rubio and his supporters held up the attack as evidence of his opponents’ predilection for violence
(“Since the Supreme Court’s summer ruling overturning Roe v
conservative people and organizations across the country have been repeatedly targeted for vandalism
and outright assault,” noted National Review by way of context.) What it actually revealed was something different than
has never voted and has no interest in politics
The true significance of this episode is a detail that emerged shortly after Rubio’s tweet: Monzon turns out to be close with the Proud Boys
a sort of hybrid social club and political gang with racist and violent tendencies
played a central role in organizing the January 6 assault
Last June, the New York Times reported on how the Proud Boys has begun to take over the powerful Miami-Dade Republican Party organization
It is one of the more alarming signposts of the Republican Party’s evolution into authoritarianism — I would say “most,” except that there are so many — because it signals violent and explicitly racist organizations are being formally welcomed into the party structure
Monzon told the Times he has been on a “path to de-radicalization.” But when the Miami New Times tried to interview Monzon in the hospital
its reporter was denied access by a contingent of former and current Proud Boys
This suggests his self-professed “de-radicalization” has been
The HuffPost reports that Monzon was paid more than $10,000 by the Florida Republican Party this year
Rubio described him as one of his canvassers
Rubio was the Republican establishment’s choice to defeat Donald Trump in 2016
and he briefly gave a convincing performance as a person who was anguished by Trump’s abuse and lies
That he appears perfectly comfortable to work within a party that is developing a racist paramilitary wing is the clearest sign of the party’s complete surrender to extremism
In June, a local reporter asked Rubio if he was okay with Proud Boys working in the Republican Party
Rubio deflected the question with the kind of hypothetical whataboutism that hackish partisans regularly employ: “Well
when you ask me about the Communists and socialists that are part of the local Democratic Party
then we can talk about members of the Republican Party.” There are some “socialists” in the Democratic Party
but advocating policies like single-payer health care and high tax rates is hardly equivalent to advocating racism and violence
I’ve never come across a Communist who views the Democratic Party with anything other than contempt
This deflection is revealing for the way one of the smears that has become normalized in conservative discourse — that Democrats are Marxists and Communists — can be repurposed as a justification for Republican extremism
The false charge that Democrats are committed to violent authoritarianism has become Rubio’s pretext for doing that very thing

The New York Red Bulls added centerback Lucas Monzón on loan through 2022 from Danubio FC, with an option to buy at the end of the loan.
"With Lucas, we found a big talent from Uruguay," Head Coach Gerhard Struber said in a media availability on Friday. "He's a player with the abilities to create, in our style of play, some very, very good moments."
Monzón, 19, began his soccer career through the Danubio FC Academy system before signing with the first team in July of 2020. The Jaguarão, Brazil, native made his debut on August 14, 2020 against Montevideo City Torque, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 victory. He played 26 matches across all competitions during the 2020-21 season with Danubio FC, accumulating 1,201 minutes played.
"I am very happy with this transfer," Struber said. "He is a young kid with big hunger -- and I think I have a good picture in my mind that he can help us very quickly, in our typical way of football."
Monzón recently appeared for Montevideo Wanderers, a first division Uruguayan club, during the 2021-22 season. He started five matches and helped anchor the backline to two clean sheets in 450 minutes played.

Philippine Stock Exchange president Ramon Monzon is championing a groundbreaking initiative aimed at expanding investment opportunities for local investors
The PSE is set to launch trading of foreign equities through Global Philippine Depository Receipts (GPDRs)
allowing Filipinos to invest in shares of renowned companies listed in developed markets
As technology continues to reshape the global landscape
especially for large-cap tech firms that have significantly outperformed market indices over the past decade
Imagine being able to invest in household names like Apple
This expansion aligns with the PSE’s broader strategy to increase market volume and liquidity
providing investors with a wider rage of investment opportunities
The timing for this initiative couldn’t be more auspicious
As the PSE Index continues its upward trajectory and the US Federal Reserve signals a potential easing of monetary policies
Coupled with the Philippines’ strong economic outlook
the PSE is well-positioned to attract a broader retail investor base
Monzon’s leadership has been instrumental in driving these positive developments
such as reducing stock transaction taxes from 0.6% to 0.1% and establishing connections with regional exchanges such as SGX and IDX
have significantly improved the accessibility and efficiency of the Philippine stock market
The introduction of GPDRs marks a significant milestone for the PSE
paving the way for a more dynamic and globally integrated capital market
Filipino investors can look forward to new opportunities to grow their wealth and participate in the global economy

The fight would be held at the Palazzetto Dello in Italy

Last week a Florida League of the South (FL LOS) member named Christopher Rey Monzon was arrested in Hollywood, Florida after attempting to assault hecklers at a government building where Monzon was protesting.
Last week a Florida League of the South (FL LOS) member named Christopher Rey Monzon was arrested in Hollywood, Florida after attempting to assault hecklers at a government building where Monzon was protesting
A survey of Monzon’s social media accounts reveals the ways in which League of the South leadership
particularly president Michael Hill and chief of staff and Florida state chairman Michael Tubbs
have selectively encouraged the more violent impulses of their younger membership as part of their drive to make the Florida League the “tip of the spear” driving towards a second Southern secession
While it is unclear how a Cuban American came to identify as a white supremacist and “southern nationalist,” it seems apparent that Monzon received some encouragement from his parents
who have participated in League of the South demonstrations
decked out in Confederate battle flags (CBFs) and toting LOS signs
previously identified by Hatewatch by his preferred online pseudonym “Chris Cedeno,” is a 22-year-old native of Hialeah
Monzon frequently posts updates regarding his activities as a “lone leaguer” in the greater-Miami area
typically picketing outside of various federal buildings with signs decrying “Yankee foreign invaders.”
Florida’s City Hall during a meeting of the city commissioners
who voted to rename three streets honoring generals of the Confederate States of America (CSA)
Monzon allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation with the demonstrators
shouting that they were “… a cancer on the face of the earth
All Jews are!” before rushing across two lines of police tape while jabbing with his flagpole
come on!” witnesses say Cedeno screamed before being tackled to the ground by police
and inciting a riot last Wednesday is only surprising in that he has previously engaged in violence when surrounded by his comrades at protests
Monzon is visible in footage from the event wearing a green army helmet decorated with a LOS “Southern Nationalist” sticker
proclaiming that he is “of the synagogue of Satan,” a reference to C— Knight’s apparent Jewish heritage
Things turned hot when C— Knight attempted to shove through LOS members blocking his path to the base of the statue
Among those who leapt into action was Monzon
visible in the footage jabbing at C— Knight with his flagpole while leaping forward
Monzon’s use of a flagpole as a weapon in both instances is notable
The League of the South frequently carries flagpoles constructed of either wooden dowel material like the kind carried by Kyle “Based Stickman” Chapman
This tactic has been used by the far right before, including at a Klu Klux Klan rally in Anaheim in February of 2016 where the ornamental tip of a flagpole was used to stab a counter protester
apparently enraged that C— Knight ripped his flag from its pole during the exchange
emerged behind the man and cold cocked him in the side of the head
C— Knight’s Roman centurion chest plate did little to defend him from being blindsided by a blow to the face
Monzon was escorted off of the scene by Michael Tubbs
Monzon was later arrested and spent the rest of the weekend in jail
A judge dismissed the charges against him for his role in the scuffle the following Monday
A profile apparently belonging to Monzon bragged about his role and was in turn lauded by LOS president Michael Hill and other members.
Undeterred by this brush with the law, Monzon was present with the LOS in Charlottesville on August 12, where LOS members were filmed assaulting several people. One widely-shared video shows FL LOS chairman Michael Tubbs standing by while members of his contingent viciously beat a black man named Deandre Harris
Monzon has apparently shuttered most of his various “sock puppet” accounts since his most recent legal woes began in earnest
a wealth of posts from his social media profiles have been made available to Hatewatch
Monzon/Cedeno has apparently deeply immersed himself in the online “manosphere,” a term for a group of chauvinistic
forums and profiles that decry efforts to secure equal representation for women in society
Monzon’s life under the avatar of “Chris Cedeno,” — the name he identified with online while using profiles like “Ambrosio Gonzalez” and “Christopher Bent” and “irl” at various protests — was clearly developed by a lonely
alienated and disaffected young man who found his insecurities and frustrations about his race
gender and sexuality readily assuaged by Hill
While affirming the bigoted and misogynistic material that Monzon was regularly consuming online
they sought to further shape Cedeno’s radicalization as it emerged into the real world
In exchange for his work as a “lone leaguer” and his “heroic actions” in New Orleans, Cedeno/Monzon was lauded by LOS leadership like Hill and Tubbs. After an incident previously documented by Hatewatch
wherein a non-LOS member pointed out the glaring contradiction that a brown-skinned white supremacist represents to any far-right organization
several of the LOS brass rushed to Monzon/Cedeno’s defense
Hill and Tubbs have not commented publicly on Monzon’s arrest
While Monzon’s age clearly puts responsibility for his actions last week solely into his own hands
Tubbs and other LOS leaders to groom him and to encourage him to act violently should be documented as the LOS continues to try and recruit more angry young men into their ranks.

it’s quite intense,” said Monzón about the Red Bulls’ style
but here they also use aggressiveness and intensity a lot
More or less it is something that we see a lot in Uruguayan soccer
Head Coach Gerhard Struber’s first indications to the young center-back are very much in line with the style of play the team showcases
that’s why he has trust in me and decided to bring me here
Those are the indications that he told me,” said Monzón
The young Uruguayan who played for Danubio FC and Montevideo Wanderers before arriving in New York knows that the Red Bulls are a club with a rich MLS history
I want to play for a big club here and I know that the Red Bulls are exactly that,” said Monzón
I saw everything at the club that really caught my attention and I really liked it.”
From the first minute Monzón takes the field
he’ll make sure to provide that garra charrúa to our team
nobody takes that from me," said Monzón as he described his characteristics as a defender
the Red Bulls return home where they’ll prepare to play two New York Derbies in one week
was the 52nd anniversary of Carlos Monzon’s coronation as middleweight world champion
who with a lethal right hand in the 12th round of a fight scheduled to 15 rounds ended the reign of the Italian Nino Benvenuti
the fifth time holder of the Association and World Boxing Council belts at the Palazzo dello Sport in Rome
with an outcome that frustrated most of the 4 to 5 thousand spectators who filled the venue to cheer on the home idol against a challenger considered to be da
The 28-year-old South American challenger had a record of 67 wins
3 losses and 9 draws and the 32-year-old 160-pound (72 kilos and 200 grams) titleholder had a record of 82-4-1
He had won the throne against Emile Griffith in a rematch
He initially won it before in April ’67
lost it in a rematch in September of that year and won it again in March ’68
The battle of Rome unfolded with passages of violence and sideways skill with a clear advantage for Monzon on the judges’ and referee’s scorecards
After the 11th round everyone expected the fight to last the 15 rounds
Monzon backed Benvenuti up and took him to his corner
With Nino’s back to the ropes Monzon connected with a brutal right hand to the face and the Italian dropped to his knees
Drust started the count but stopped it at the 1’57” minute mark of the round
The victory of the fighter nicknamed “Escopeta” (Shotgun)
generated a natural jubilation in his corner
was a cerebral and implacable puncher of great resistance
So much so that the legendary trainer of Muhammad Ali
said of him that he was the best exponent of the perfect boxer
That resounding victory over Nino Benvenuti was the beginning of a long 9-year reign where he successfully defended the belt on 14 occasions
In the first exhibition he knocked out Benvenuti again
now in three episodes in Monte Carlo and continued with Emile Griffith (KOT14
Shortly after the second fight with the Colombian
His number of 14 successful defenses is only surpassed in the division by the 20 of the still active Kazakh Gennady Golovkin and the 18 of the now retired American Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins
he had left far behind the years of extreme poverty in a home where he was the fifth child
As a child he was a shoeshine boy and as a teenager he sold soft drinks
He studied up to the third grade of elementary school to start working and thus help support the household
He was ranked by Box Rec as the 7th best pound-for-pound fighter in history and The Ring ranked him 11th in the list of the greatest fighters of all times
In 1990 he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota
His longtime trainer was his countryman Amilcar Brusa
who took care of him from his third amateur fight until the end of his professional career
with a KO2 over Jorge Montenegro and closed against Valdés 14 years later
lost only three on points (he took revenge for all three): with his countryman Antonio Aguilar
and fellow countryman Alberto Massi in August 63
After retirement he acted as a movie actor in several films of very little notoriety and had countless romances
among them a highly publicized one with former model and TV presenter Susana Jiménez
After retirement he acted in several films
His well-known irascible temper got him involved in a turbulent altercation on February 14
beat her uncontrollably and threw her off a balcony
He was sentenced to 11 years for simple homicide
Seven years after his imprisonment (Benvenuti visited him several times and pleaded in vain for his freedom)
he left the prison on a special routine leave and
when he was on his way back to prison his car overturned spectacularly on Los Cerrillos Road when he was traveling at 140 km/h
More than 60 thousand people attended his funeral at the Santa Fe Municipal Cemetery

I’ve always loved to learn and I’ve always been perseverant
I got easily frustrated when something had to work and it didn’t
The university that I wanted to attend had an Expo
where future students could get a campus tour
and after a couple hours in the campus we came across the labs that were used by Electronics and Mechatronics students
It was the moment when I decided to study Mechatronics Engineering—I wanted to be a part of that world
But my first thoughts were “Am I good enough?” and “What if I can’t do it?” When I told my brother what I was thinking
he told me that fearing failure wasn’t a good reason for not doing something
He told me that everyone has a fear of failing
as my school didn’t have classes on the matter so I didn’t know how to do it
It was a bit of “learning on the road,” and now programming is one of the main things I do on my job
not only thanks to the lectures and classes
especially the smart and strong women I met that I have the privilege to call friends
and another set of challenges came with it
My first work was at a local startup as a software tester
Then I got a job in the company I work for until this day
but here you are always encouraged to study
giving solutions to our clients with different services
developing products that we use internally
teaching others how services work and what they can do with them
and also studying and practicing as things move and grow very fast
I’m the only woman but I have been fortunate enough to study and work in places where I’m treated as an equal
Women face daily challenges just for the fact of being women
Gender shouldn’t decide if you are worthy of being heard or not
if you are smart enough to participate or not
Your value as a person shouldn’t be decided by that
I had opportunities to work with other women in different projects
Seeing what we can do together is always amazing
Stopping with the “She can’t do this or that,” which limits what we can accomplish or not
or study this because you are a girl.” Because that’s a lie
We can accomplish anything we set our minds to
and I will keep working for it every single day
Breaking the bias means to work hard and fight the little voice in my head that tells me to speak low when I’m sure that what I’m saying is right
I dream about a world free of stereotypes and discrimination
I’ve been lucky enough to work in places where my ideas are respected
but I also know that my individual experience doesn’t represent a collective one
to celebrate other women I’ve had the pleasure to work with
They can stop making assumptions about their colleagues
they can speak about any salary gaps (because women usually get paid less for doing the exact same job)
they can point out any bad treatment a teammate is getting just for her gender
making the path easier to walk for the next generations
