Spanish LNG terminal operator Reganosa has upgraded the jetty at its Mugardos LNG import terminal in the port of Ferrol as part of the modernisation plans
the modernisation works have increased the facility’s versatility which will now be able to operate not only large and medium methane tankers but all types of vessels
The jetty saw an installation of a flexible cryogenic hose system for small-scale vessels
This new LNG loading and unloading system joins the four fixed arms that the terminal’s jetty already had
Reganosa’s plant forms a part of the growing European LNG bunkering network
the company also plans to soon incorporate a compression system that maximises the use of energy and allows all types of logistics services to be provided at any time
Reganosa plans to allocate around $17 million to this upgrade which is expected to result in average annual savings of 26 to 40 GWh and in the comprehensive management of the vapours generated in the LNG storage tanks
Launched in 2007, the Mugardos LNG terminal has received 426 ships so far. It is powered by renewable energy sources and has the capacity to supply 3.6 billion cubic metres per year of natural gas to the Spanish grid

Spanish LNG terminal operator Reganosa said its Mugardos liquefied natural gas plant in the port of Ferrol
was the third most used terminal in the Spanish system
The company said that the LNG facility has jumped one position within the ranking of the use of the Spanish system (displacing the one in Barcelona) and is placed as the third most used in relative terms
the Mugardos terminal carried out 20 ship discharges
A total of 2.22 million cubic meters of LNG (14,874 GWh) reached the facility’s tanks
This increase in maritime traffic was reflected in the increase in regasification work
the complex issued 20.7 percent more energy to the network than in the previous 12 months: 13,254 Gwh
This is the equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 3,8 million homes
Japanese commodity tradier Sojitz Corporation has announced the acquisition of full ownership of Spanish company First State Regasificadora
which will be renamed Sojitz Regasificadora
owns a 15% stake in Regasificadora del Noroeste
which operates an LNG terminal in Mugardos in the northwest of Spain
Sojitz Corporation has become the first Japanese trading company to enter into the LNG terminal business in Europe
Sojitz plans to contribute its LNG expertise and other business experience to support the further development of the Mugardos LNG Terminal
“Sojitz will continue to develop its global LNG business with a focus on LNG receiving and liquefaction terminals
and will look at expanding its LNG receiving terminal business into ASEAN and other countries in South Asia
and to also develop its LNG liquefaction business to help create a stable energy supply for Japan
the world’s largest importer of LNG,” Sojitz said in a release
In October, a consortium comprising Sojitz, Marubeni and Indonesia’s Pertamina ordered a $221m LNG-FSRU at South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries

The Reganosa terminal in Mugardos accommodated the smallest vessel ever docked at its pier over the previous weekend when Coral Fungia
with a deadweight tonnage of 10,441 tonnes
delivered the chilled fuel from the liquefication plant in Cryogas in Vysotsk on the Baltic coast of Russia
Aside from serving conventional plants like the one in Mugardos
the vessel is able to transport smaller quantities of LNG to smaller plants located on ports
meaning it can directly supply another ship with fuel thanks to its double manifold at different heights
Reganosa noted that the liquefication plant that the Coral Fungia comes from only began exporting this past April
It has an annual capacity of 640,000 tonnes of LNG
In accordance with the evolution of the sector
Reganosa added it is progressing with its adaptation of the pier for small-scale vessel traffic
for which it will be equipped with suitable connections for receiving and supplying LNG to small gas tankers that can supply satellite port plants or other vessels that use this type of fuel for shipping
Spanish LNG terminal operator Reganosa says that their facility Mugardos in the port of Ferrol will only consume green power
This is a result of an agreement with the supplier Naturgy
a Spanish multinational natural gas and electrical energy utilities company
The Mugardos liquefied natural gas terminal
is estimated to require approximately 25 gigawatt hours for its operation in 2021
Naturgy will be in charge of the required electricity supply
This will bring 100 per cent renewable energy to the complex with a certified guarantee of origin
Reganosa reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and caring for the environment
both of which are part of its decarbonization and energy transformation strategy
