Every current and upcoming character and weapon Banner
Genshin Impact Banners are what you can spend your Fate currency on to Wish for characters and weapons
Every character event Banner usually runs for three weeks
which always has a single 5-Star character with boosted pull odds
We’ve detailed what the next and current Banners are in Genshin Impact below
along with a list of all Banners that have ran in the game since its 1.0 launch
For these temporary event character Banners, you have to use Intertwined Fate to Wish on them, and they usually change every three weeks. Sometimes there will only be one event character Banner, and sometimes there are two. When there are two, they share the same pity, 50/50 system
The boosted 4-Star characters on Escoffier and Navia's next Banners are:
Then in Phase 2 of version 5.6 we're getting Kinich and Raiden Shogun, with Kinich a returning 5-Star Dendro claymore user on his Seeker of Flame-Wrought Secrets Banner, and Raiden Shogun a 5-Star Electro polearm-user on her Reign of Serenity Banner
Epitome Invocation is a permanent weapon Banner with boosted 5-Star and 4-Star weapons that usually changes every three weeks
at the same time new event character Banners are added
you must use Intertwined Fate to Wish on Epitome Invocation
The 5-Star weapons on the next weapon Banner in Genshin Impact are:
All of the 4-Star boosted weapons on the next weapon Banner are:
Although we don't officially know the version 5.6 Phase 2 weapons
we know that the 5-Star weapons running beside them should be:
The next Chronicled Wish Banner is running in version 5.6 and features a pool of characters and weapons from the Inazuma region - including the long awaited return of Ayaka
Here's all of the 5-Star characters on the next Chronicled Wish Banner:
And here's all of the 5-Star weapons on the next Chronicled Wish Banner:
The version 5.5 Phase 2 character Banners in Genshin Impact end on Tuesday 6th May
You can check exactly how long a Banner has left in your own server time by checking the bottom left-hand corner of an event Banner
The current Banners in Genshin Impact feature the returning 5-Stars Xilonen and Venti
Xilonen is a returning 5-Star Geo sword-user on her Forgefire's Blessing Banner
and the boosted 4-Star characters on Xilonen's current Banner are:
The other current 5-Star character Banner features Venti
a returning 5-Star Anemo archer on his Ballad in Goblets Banner
and all the boosted 4-Star characters featured on Venti's current Banner are:
The current Epitome Invocation Banner runs until Tuesday 6th May
The 5-Star weapons on the current weapon Banner in Genshin Impact are:
All of the 4-Star boosted weapons on the current weapon Banner are:
Chronicled Wish uses Intertwined Fate to chart a course towards specific characters and weapons that have been on rerun Banners at least two times
This new Banner was first added to Genshin Impact during version 4.5, and as per the official explainer
Chronicled Wish will run "from time to time"
How does this new Banner work with both characters and weapons
before using your Intertwined Fate to pull on Chronicled Wish
you must choose your 'Chronicled Path' by selecting a 5-star character or weapon from a list
the 5-stars you pull will all be characters
you're guaranteed a 4-Star character or weapon every 10 pulls
but there's only a 50/50 chance it's the one you picked during your selection
This Fate point then guarantees that the next 5-star character or weapon you get is the one you picked during the 'Chronicled Wish' selection
or a Chronicled Wish Banner ending will reset your Fate Points back to zero
This means your accumulated pull count will carry over to the next Chronicled Wish Banner
if you lose the 50/50 and don't get your selected character or weapon
you can't use the Fate Point on the next Chronicled Banner
you're just not guaranteed to get the 5-Star you want anymore now you don't have a Fate Point to use
Chronicled Wish has a separate pull count than the event character Banners
even though they both use Intertwined Fate
You can spend your Acquaint Fate on the permanent Beginners' Wish Banner
Beginners' Wish will no longer be available
After spending 10 Acquaint Fate on Beginners' wish you will get a guaranteed 4-Star Geo character
you'll then get another guaranteed 5-Star or 4-Star character from a select pool
Here are the 5-Star characters you can get from the Beginners' Wish Banner:
Here's the 4-Star characters available in the Beginners' Wish Banner pool:
All 5-Star characters and Weapons not included in event character Banners are available in Wanderlust Invocation
New 4-Star characters are added to it in the update after their original Banner debut
but event-exclusive 4-Star weapons are not
For every 10 Wishes you make with Acquaint Fate on Wanderlust Invocation
you are guaranteed at least one 4-Star character or weapon
Here are all the 5-Star characters you can get from Wanderlust Invocation:
There are a lot more 4-Star items than 5-Stars in the Banner
so here's every 4-Star character you can get from Wanderlust Invocation:
The table below shows the entire history of all character Banners in Genshin Impact
including who the boosted 4-Star characters were
Good luck Wishing on Banners in Genshin Impact

Chronicled Wish brings back every 5-star Inazuma character and their signature weapons
and two Chronicled Wish banners where you designate which 5-star character or 5-star weapon you want to get
You'll still have the 50/50 to contend with
Our Genshin Impact 5.6 banners guide lists who's featured in each banner and explains how the Inazuma Chronicled Wish works
The first round of Genshin 5.6 banners goes live with the version update on May 7
or late on May 6 depending on your time zone
They bring Navia back and introduce Escoffier
Her skill places a mek on the battlefield that fires Cryo shots at intervals
and her third passive reduces enemy Cryo and Hydro resistance when the party has Hydro and Cryo characters in it – up to a 55 percent reduction with four Hydro or Cryo characters
Escoffier's burst also deals heavy Cryo damage and heals the party based on her attack
Navia is an excellent Geo damage dealer who powers up when the team causes the Crystallize reaction
Her rotation means she works best as a sub-DPS character
so you'll want to put some thought into her team composition
Finally is Ifa, a new Natlan character who specializes in plunging attacks, grouping enemies with Anemo bullets, and healing the party. His plunging multipliers seem about on par with Xianyun's – so
decent but not like Diluc's – though his passives make him a little more unusual
His second passive lets him increase the party's Swirl and Electro-Charge damage
so he'll work well with other Anemo characters
along with sources of Electro and Hydro damage
Kinich is coming back for his first rerun in the second round of Genshin 5.6's banners
with Raiden Shogun making her first appearance since version 4.3
Kinich deals heavy Dendro damage on his own and benefits from having Pyro characters around, such as Mavuika
as one of his passive talents restores his Nightsoul Points when enemies take Burning or Burgeon damage
More Nightsoul Points means Kinich can use his powered-up skill for longer
Raiden Shogun remains one of Genshin Impact's best support and damage-dealing characters
She grants the party extra energy recharge and powers her ultimate when other characters use theirs
thanks to a skill that deals Electro damage when the active character attacks
HoYoverse is bringing back the Chronicled Wish banners for Genshin 5.6
You can designate a specific 5-star character or 5-star weapon that you want to aim for
you'll have a chance of getting the target character or weapon
though if you end up with a different one instead
the next 5-star on that banner is guaranteed to be your chosen one
The Chronicled Wish weapons are all the signature weapons for each character

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Kalamazoo Promise didn't just cover Navia Walker's undergraduate college tuition; it ended up laying the foundation for a fulfilling career that aligns her professional skills with her passion for helping others
Walker is graduating from Western Michigan University on Saturday
with a master's in counselor education and a job as a Promise guide for the Kalamazoo Promise
"I saw the job posted and it felt like the role had literally been written for me. I'll be working with students who've stopped out and trying to help them get back on track, essentially walking alongside them, helping them create success plans and being an avenue to access resources," says Walker, who has worked for the past two years in Multicultural Affairs for Students at Western as a graduate assistant for the Kalamazoo Promise
"It's really an awesome opportunity to be able to continue the work that I was already doing at Western but also implement everything I've been working on in my master's degree for the last three years
I'm really excited to pull from all of my skills that I've been chiseling."
He was instrumental in founding the Family Health Center and held leadership roles over several decades with the Douglass Community Association
Greater Kalamazoo United Way and Borgess Foundation
He was also one of the most important people in Walker's life
"He was a huge driving force in why I went to college," she says
my grandpa brought me to orientation and helped me pick my classes."
Walker wasn't settled on a major until she met with an exploratory advisor who shared her own career journey and mentioned her background in counseling
"Counseling had always lived somewhere in my brain," she says
"I've always been that listening ear and the empathetic person in my friend group."
After perusing the courses that piqued Walker's interest, her advisor recommended the family studies program
It focuses on strengthening individual and family well-being across the lifespan with the goal of improving quality of life within communities and society—an educational foundation that would set her up well for a potential counseling career
It also mirrored the impact Moses Walker had on Kalamazoo
he would not see Navia put her own education into action as he died unexpectedly in January 2020
she is happy to have carried on his legacy at his alma mater
earning her bachelor's degree and enrolling in Western's counselor education master's program
"Doing this program has allowed me to grow personally and has challenged me to look inward at myself and figure out the kind of person I want to be
the kind of clinician I want to be," she says
I feel so much more confident and I've had experiences that prepared me for my career."
Western's counselor education program is rigorous
and cohorts become close-knit as their studies progress.
it's important to make sure that you have community
and my colleagues and I have gone through this together," says Walker
I've had the same professors from start to finish
so you really get to understand their teaching style
their expectations and build closer connections to them."
In addition to learning theories and counseling practices, master's students engage in internships and practicum experiences through Western's Centers for Counseling and Psychological Services
which offers no- and low-cost mental health services to members of the campus and local community
Walker gained experience counseling Western students through the centers and then expanded her skill set to populations ranging from court-appointed clients to parents reunifying with children and domestic violence survivors during an internship at Wicks Therapy PLCC in Kalamazoo
"The practicum and internship have completely opened my brain," she says
"With all of these experiences I've gotten
I feel like not only can I talk the talk but I feel so much more confident in walking the walk
Walker also gained invaluable work experience as the graduate assistant for the Kalamazoo Promise
she researched and collected data on the program at Western
weighing what worked and what didn't and determining what the program could look like in the future
That data was used in a grant proposal to the Promise which helped Western secure funding for the program
"It was a really great experience for me to do all of the behind-the-scenes work that I had never imagined doing
we set out to do all of those things we proposed."
Walker spent the fall 2023 semester meeting with incoming first-year and transfer students who are Promise scholars
helping them create success plans and routinely checking in with them to ensure they had the support they needed to thrive in their studies
"It helped me grow personally and professionally
I can't even really describe how grateful I am to have had the experience working as a graduate assistant," Walker says.
as her experience with the Promise comes full circle and she prepares to guide the next generation of scholars
she's grateful for the holistic education she gained at Western that's prepared her for this next step
And she knows her grandfather would be proud of her success
"My grandpa was the reason I pursued college in the first place; everything I did college-wise was for him
it really made me question a lot of things," she says
But I feel so incredibly proud of myself to have grown so much as a person and to have made it on my own."

Lorraine Powers knew she had genetics “working against” her because her father had suffered a massive heart attack when he was 68. But, in her 60s now herself, she considered herself in good physical shape due to her regular workouts. She even learned to surf when she was 65. So, she said it was “quite a shock” recently when she learned she would need coronary artery bypass surgery
She had been having some chest pain when working out and her trainer suggested she see a cardiologist. She went to see Kenneth Fromkin, MD, a cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital
After the results of a stress test showed cause for concern
an X-ray test that looks at blood flow through the heart’s blood vessels
The angiogram determined that there was a complete blockage of Lorraine’s left anterior descending artery
“To have bypass surgery you really want to have the best,” Lorraine says
“When I did research it came up that Cleveland Clinic was one of the best not only in the United States but in the world.”
said it was an easy decision to go to Cleveland Clinic in Florida
especially since it was so close to her home
Jose Navia, MD, FACC
performed a coronary revascularization procedure to bypass Lorraine’s blocked artery and restore blood flow
The procedure utilized a hybrid robotic and minimally invasive approach requiring only one small incision to the chest
“This is more appealing to patients cosmetically,” Dr
as it does not require an opening of the chest
It also allows for a faster recovery with less pain
“My recovery has been amazing,” Lorraine says
She stayed in the hospital for four days after the surgery
she was able to walk her dog and perform some minimal exercise to begin to get her strength again
She describes all of her caregivers at Cleveland Clinic as “kind
“I didn’t think with this kind of heart issue I could be fixed enough to get back to my life,” Lorraine says
Everything you need to level up Navia and her skills
Navia uses Geo stones for her main ascension material
but her boss drop comes from a boss that might drop Anemo or Cryo stones - never Geo
That means it takes some extra time to get everything you need
you can use those other elemental stone drops for another character
We've listed all the Genshin Impact Navia materials below, including where to find them and how to farm them more quickly. If you're not sure how Navia plays, head over to our Navia build guide for some recommendations and our top picks for her teams
Navia uses Transoceanic items dropped by crabs and seahorses and handguard items for ascension
along with an item from a boss on Watatsumi Island
Prithiva Topaz Geo stones drop from several world bosses
You may also get Geo stones from the Azhdaha and Dominator of Wolves weekly bosses
There's no convenient way to get Navia's stones and other items
so your best bet is to try and match your choice to a boss that drops an item for another character - the Mechanical Array for Ayaka
Artificed Spare Clockwork Component - Coppelius only comes from the Icewind Suite
You'll want to pick the Nemesis of Coppelius boss
Spring of the First Dewdrop is a local specialty in Fontaine that you'll find underwater in the seas west of the Fory of Charybdis ruins. Check out our Spring of the First Dewdrop locations guide for more specifics
Transoceanic items are also only found in Fontaine
They come from most Fontaine-specific enemies
Navia needs even more Pearls for her talents, so you'll need to plan on plenty of beach trips to get what you need - especially if you're leveling Neuvillette as well
Equity bookscome from the Pale Forgotten Glory Domain in Fontaine on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday/strong>. These talent books also show up as materials for Lyney and Neuvillette
so make sure to plan ahead if you want to level up both characters
Lightless Silk String is one of a few possible drops you can get from the All-Devouring Narwhal weekly boss
though you can just transmute it into Silk String at an alchemy table
Here's what it costs to fully level up one of Navia's talents
The high cost of leveling talents and the fact that Navia shares her materials with several other Fontaine characters means it's best to max out just one or two
Her skill is by far her most important talent

The Energy Inclusion Project in Cerro Navia aims to combat energy poverty in the district through innovative initiatives with families. To achieve this, a strategic partnership was formed between Enel Distribution, STM from the Saesa Group, and the Municipality of Cerro Navia, who worked together to develop and monitor the program. Coordination and execution were led by EBP Chile, EGEA NGO, and the Energy Poverty Network.
The project began in August 2023 with an assessment that helped identify the most appropriate and feasible energy interventions for each family, such as appliance replacements, the provision of efficient heating equipment, repairs to dangerous electrical connections, and the installation of solar panels for hot water. Additionally, workshops on energy efficiency and renewable energy were held to guide people toward responsible electricity consumption.
The initiative benefited 57 families who were facing challenges related to access, quality, and equity in energy services in their homes, using a Living Lab methodology.
“Reducing energy poverty gaps is a proven solution to ease the economic pressures on families, particularly as the effects of climate change weigh more heavily on disadvantaged social groups. With this project, we once again demonstrate that through energy efficiency and reducing expenses, it is possible to improve families' quality of life while also taking small-scale climate action,” explained Camila de la Quintana, Sustainability and Circular Economy Manager at Enel Distribución.
Jorge Villar, Zonal Manager at STM, commented: “Reducing energy gaps through equipment renewal can be the first step toward transforming people's quality of life. But we also understand that this change must be addressed from various angles. That's why, at STM and all Saesa Group subsidiaries, we are committed to energy education, empowering our customers to make informed and sustainable decisions. Our 'Your Consumption Does Matter' program reflects this.”
As part of the actions taken, efficient appliances including 21 refrigerators and 23 electric heaters were provided, along with 57 energy efficiency kits and the installation of six solar water heaters. Additionally, seven electrical upgrades were made to improve the safety of homes by repairing and replacing electrical systems like breakers, outlets, and switches, ensuring a safer and more efficient environment for the benefited families.
“The project was very well received. All the neighbors are happy and grateful. There are a lot of elderly people in this neighborhood, and we'd never received anything like this,” said Patricia Pérez, one of the neighbors who participated in the program. Meanwhile, Alicia Valenzuela, another resident of Aurora de Chile, explained that the initiative “was very beneficial because, in our case, we are retirees, and today we can see significant savings on our electricity and gas bills.”
Among the results obtained from the application of these measures are the following:
Summary of monetary savings and reductions in CO2 eq.
Monthly reduction in emissions by home [tCO2eq]
Annual reduction in emissions by home [tCO2eq]
Total annual reduction in emissions [tCO2eq* total homes]

National targets for solar and wind power will see reliance on natural gas plummet
reducing electricity price volatility across Europe
with major beneficiaries including the UK and Ireland
The UK in particular is projected to see major benefits to its energy market stability from renewables
Hitting the current national 2030 quotas for solar and wind energy could reduce the volatility of electricity markets by an average of 20% across 29 European countries
according to a new study from the University of Cambridge
The intensity of spikes in power prices are predicted to fall in every country by the end of the decade if commitments to green energy are met
The UK and Ireland would be the biggest beneficiaries
with 44% and 43% reductions in the severity of electricity price spikes by 2030
Germany could experience a 31% decline in electricity price volatility
with the Netherlands and Belgium seeing price spikes ease by 38% and 33% respectively
The simulations conducted for the new study show that scaling up renewable energy minimises the market impact of fluctuations in natural gas price – increasing stability even when considering the reliance of renewable technologies on weather
Some EU leaders and energy ministers have called for renewables targets on grounds of energy security as well as decarbonisation
particularly since Putin’s war on Ukraine stemmed the flow of Russian gas
The study, published in the journal Nature Energy
calculates in detail how such aims would affect the volatility of wholesale electricity prices in energy markets across Europe
“The volatility of energy prices is a major cause of damage to national economies,” said Laura Diaz Anadon
the University of Cambridge’s Professor of Climate Change Policy
“Consumers are still reeling from sharp increases in electricity prices brought about by natural gas shortages following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” said Anadon
“We show that hitting renewables targets reduce the likelihood of such price spikes in the future.”
a researcher with the University’s Centre for Environment
Energy and Natural Resource Governance (CEENRG)
said: “Meeting renewable energy targets is not only good for carbon neutrality
but we can see it is a boost to economic resilience”
“We had probably underestimated how costly energy price shocks are to our societies
and the last crisis has been a stark reminder.”
The Cambridge researchers used the University’s high performance computing facilities to model a wide range of factors – from fluctuations in weather patterns and energy demands to fuel capacity – to map the current and future grids of all 27 EU nations plus the UK and Switzerland
They assessed electricity markets in 2030 based on the commitments to renewables as stated in each nation’s national energy and climate plan
“The UK in particular is projected to see major benefits to its energy market stability from renewables,” said Anadon
“The UK has struggled with its exposure to gas prices due to a lack of energy storage and limited connections to the European grid
This has led to more hours where electricity prices are set by natural gas.”
The research also suggests that wholesale prices of electricity could fall by over a quarter on average across all countries in the study by decade’s end if they stick to current national renewables targets
populations in the UK and Ireland stand to gain significantly
with electricity prices predicted to fall by around 45% by 2030
Several of the Nordic nations could see over 60% reductions in electricity costs by 2030
while in Germany the price is predicted to fall by 34%
The study suggests the Netherlands could see the price of electricity fall by 41%
While the study’s authors caution that trends in electricity prices depend on factors that are “impossible to predict”
they say their results are in line with recent outputs by institutions such as the International Energy Agency
Navia and Anadon say their modelling may even underestimate the potential for electricity price stability across Europe
as the projections were calculated using data from 1990-2021 – before the energy crisis created by Russia’s attack on Ukraine
“It makes sense to think about renewables as a security investment
and if we lose the momentum towards green energy
but we also exposing ourselves to unknowable risks down the line,” said Anadon
The new study also charts the effects on electricity prices if countries overshoot on renewables
If Europe exceeds its renewable energy goals by 30%
electricity prices could become 50% less sensitive to natural gas
compared to just meeting renewables targets
the study suggests there are tipping points where renewables cause the price of power to fall so far that it stops providing sufficient return on investment
Added Navia: “If we are to fully utilise solar and wind as a security tool
Europe might have to rethink how its energy markets are designed
and what incentives it can offer the private sector to maintain the societal insurance value it gets from renewable energy.”

Generation of value from the Navia biofactory
The Navia biofactory generates a positive impact on the Spanish economy at all levels through the development of its activity
This is the conclusion of a recent study by the specialist consultancy Valora

the study determines that its activity translates into an economic impact on the national GDP of 840 million euros and the generation of 7,000 jobs between direct
The biofactory boosts activity indirectly in the industrial

acting as a catalyst in predominantly rural areas
With regard to the Principality of Asturias and its industrial sector
the activity of the Navia biofactory generates an impact of 103 million euros in the Asturian manufacturing industry
more than 250 million euros in payments to suppliers to make all the purchases and investments necessary to maintain its activity
This means an important economic impact in different areas: 67 million euros in industrial purchases
24 million euros in investments in assets and another 5 million euros in logistics activities
Production on season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is underway in Toronto
but actress Melissa Navia had Saturday off and spent the day at the ST-SF convention in San Francisco
and described how being at the helm of the USS Enterprise has been an inspiration to others and herself
Melissa kicked off her panel discussion by hyping up the work being done now on season 3:
“I’m also a huge fan of the show… I love our cast
And we have incredible things coming your way that we are working on diligently
And that is what I am headed back to.”

The actress was careful not to talk spoilers but she got a few questions about her character getting more development
When one fan asked if there are stories or sides to the character she hopes to explore
“Yes… The reason I’m only saying that is just because I’m always very careful because we are in the middle of filming
So I have to be very just aware of what I say
the best compliment you can get is when somebody has seen your character and they want to see more of that character
What do you want is: Let’s see less of her
I want to know what makes her tick and what she’s been through
And we definitely saw glimpses of that in season 2… So
I want to see so much more and I will just end it with
When asked specifically if season 3 includes an Ortegas-focused episode
the actress again answered very carefully:
You guys ask wonderful questions but I can say nothing
There was one hypothetical she was willing to talk about
indicating this isn’t something we can expect in season 3: what she thinks Mirror Erica Ortegas would be like
Navia was excited about the possibilities:
Especially because I’ve never really played any villains and I would love to do that
I can’t even fully articulate how it would look… I think she would be a force to be reckoned with and I wouldn’t want to go up against her
that would be fantastic as an actor to play that
There is something about a villain that is captivating
So I don’t know what it would look like but it would be pretty great and I hope the writers are thinking about something like that in the future.”
A longtime Star Trek fan talked about how he has watched each new show over the years and has loved the inclusion
asking “Where is the Hispanic person?” until Ortegas with “Yes
finally.” He asked the actress what this aspect of Ortegas bring to the character
Navia showed how proud she was to play the role that matched her own heritage:
“When I booked the role and saw the breakdown
and it was exactly what you see on screen: the name of the character
For so much of my career there has been a stereotypical idea of what that looks like… So often you get that you are ethnically ambiguous
and then you can play a number of different roles
but there is also this frustration that I am also Latina
And this is the way I look and [with] Latinos
So the fact that this role was that and all these other cool aspects
And then hearing from people and realizing how big it is to see me at the helm of the Enterprise
then I started to really kind of process it
I can only imagine I’m making my grandparents very proud
I’m very proud of my Colombian heritage… So I just like hearing from fans who are happy to see Erica at the helm and I’m like
I hope you can see yourself in that as well.’ And I want to continue to bring aspects of that into the character
which the writers have been wonderful about wanting to do that.”
Navia was also asked about Ortegas’ distinctive hair and she revealed it was a choice she made before she got the role—and she was very happy she was able to keep it:
“About three months before I booked Star Trek
I asked my hairstylist to give me this haircut
And there’s proof of it on my Instagram
And my rep at the time thought that it was too specific
He wanted to be able to send me out for the role of Boring Person Number 1,2,3
So I’m trying to give myself the most opportunity
so I guess I will go back to a pixie cut and then three weeks later I booked this role
Then we were talking about haircuts and they sent me some ideas and I was like
‘Hey’ and so we are back here.”
And here is that Instagram post from March 2021 of Melissa showing off her new hairstyle before getting the role in SNW…
A post shared by Melissa Navia (@mcnavia)
Navia also revealed that playing Ortegas has led her to start learning to become a pilot:
“Part of it was obviously for this role
But people say this role has inspired them to become a pilot and I would be like
‘That’s awesome… Wait a minute
I can also become a pilot.’ I’ve always had a great love of flying
And I think it’s one of the coolest things that we do as human beings
And every time I’ve ever met a pilot
Ortegas is like that I am not always like that.”
Navia revealed at the Saturn Awards she talked about flying with Michael Dorn
who has been flying for years and owns several planes
which is inspiring her to finish her training
“Now I have to become a pilot so I can follow up with Michael Dorn!”
Melissa often talks about her late partner Brian Bannon
She said that while they were shooting the second season in 2022
Star Trek fans helped fill an important void he left behind:
“When season 1 premiered we were filming season 2
And when we got to see the fans’ reactions online
He was with me for all of season 1 filming in Toronto
So what you got to see in season 1 was thanks to him
And hearing what fans loved about Ortegas as we were filming season was so helpful and beautiful to me because it was the thing that Brian had told me always
And you guys were basically telling me what he’s always said that he sees
So when I heard it from fans it was almost like he was still telling me and I was hearing it from a whole new group of friends… I just felt so much love from the community
I was in Australia and New Zealand in October
and it felt like I’ve been in that part of the world forever
because I was surrounded by Star Trek fans
Production on the 10-episode third season of Strange New Worlds began in December of last year and should wrap up by May
Paramount has not yet announced a release date

She is the last in the main cast to get one and that tease last season was wrong
I think the episode with everyone forgetting their memories was supposed to be the big Ortegas episode before it was weirdly altered to become a Pike-centric episode
The only real thing we learned about Erica in that episode was that she flies the ship… which we already knew
I suspect that the producers simply aren’t interested in her character
Kirk and Spock are at the top of the list for best character development or the very least the most scenes outside of Pike
Although I don’t think Pike’s development has always worked that well
Hopefully this 3rd season starts improving on that
I love how present and how vivid Navia makes Ortegas
She’s made Ortegas feel more real to me in only 20 episodes than Detmer does in twice as many
producers and editors on Discovery also deserve some blame for this
Character development for the minor characters on Discovery have never been a top priority and that’s unfortunate but not unusual where Star Trek is concerned
I am glad to see SNW is doing better with those issues but they can still improve
but Ortegas felt real to me in a way that Detmer never has long before the writers gave her any character development
I disagree that it is not unusual for Star Trek
and even most of the current shows are true ensembles
Name another show that is so discourteous to its bridge crew
I knew something about everyone by the end of the first season
I think Detmer was the only name I knew by the end of the first season
Rhys or Owosekun until halfway through season 2
Even now I sometimes can’t remember which one is Bryce and which one is Rhys
I’d love to see her in an Enemy Mine-style episode
since a lot of what we’ve seen from her so far are her preconceived notions about Vulcans
It would be cool to see her learn to change those notions through getting to know someone better
Prejudice is NOT a good look in a Starfleet officer
so I’d love to see an episode that gets her over that
Classic Trek trope that can pay dividends when they pitch it right
I think she’s one of the strongest of the new characters Trek has given us since Kurtzman & Co
wonderfully portrayed by Jenette Goldstein in 1986’s Aliens
I wonder if the latter serves as an inspiration for the former at all
though Yar was named ‘macha’ hernandez at that point
and would have been played (god knows how unsuccessfully) by Sirtis
Fortunately they switched Crosby and Sirtis’ roles and changed the security chief’s name and heritage
Personally I think TNG would have benefited from a Hudson (Bill Paxton)-style character
to make things a little less stuffy on the ship
Certainly DS9 should have been able to go that route
“I think she’s one of the strongest of the new characters Trek has given us”
She spends two seasons sitting at the helm making quips
She’s the least developed character on SNW
but not an A-story and that’s a shame
they have had to service the lead characters (Pike
Una) as well as the legacy characters (Uhura
the quasi-legacy character (La’an) and the recurring character played by the well-known actor (Pelia)
So there really isn’t a lot of air time left
That still makes her more interesting than some of the principals
I don’t like that she seems to be among the most anachronistic/contemporary of them
but since Pike is the worst offender in that regard
and that speaks to a bigger problem in the writer’s room
She hasn’t been given much character development
staring dully ahead unless they have lines
but Navia makes Ortegas fully inhabit every scene she’s in
so I don’t know what she’s doing
she’s hardly going to tease “utterly shit things” for season three…lest that include her character’s untimely exit
Um… B’Elanna Torres would like a word with you
as a Hispanic character was one of the main stars of VOYAGER
but she was played by Roxann Dawson Caballero and her father was John Torres
Santiago Cabrera as Cristóbal Rios on PICARD would also like a word with you
Two Hispanic actors have held main Star Trek roles–and both of them had so much more to do as a character than Ortegas
So I have no idea what that complaint is even about
So that’s three major cast members before her that are Hispanic
because Beltran and Cabrera were on Star Trek AT THE SAME TIME as Strange New Worlds
So how could the actress and the person who was speaking to her think she’s the first
hers is by far the least realized and least developed
so from an historical Star Trek perspective
there’s nothing at all significant about her being Latina
I suppose as a Native American I’m supposed to be happy with that random guy in badly done headdress in TMP and Chakotay who was written by people whose Native advisor was a fraud
Leaving aside that Wesley’s final TNG episode was just about the most insulting thing the franchise has done towards Native culture
and the Paradise Syndrome has a few hundred offensive things in it
and I thought THUNDERHEART was kinda iffy …
what was insulting about that final Wesley episode
so I can’t recall how Natives were portrayed in it
The very idea that we would be forced off of Earth
The entirety of the episode is the problem
The inability to accurately portray any tribes and the insult of casting THE ONE ACTUAL NATIVE in the episode as a disguise for the Traveller
The casting of a Hispano actor as a Native is inexcusable
on “Journey’s End,” I recall nothing to suggest the Native colonists were “forced” off of Earth; they chose to leave because they felt they could build a more authentic community in a colony
just like the Scottish in “Sub Rosa.”
There is zero real world chance of the Native Americans abandoning Earth willingly
it appears there was a nuclear war on Earth.) Cultures and religions are also malleable
the concept of an Islamic state was alien — some would say anathema — to shi’i Islam until
TNG also had several reoccurring or prominent Hispano characters
They never really played up B’Elanna’s human heritage at all on Voyager
Although based on how they dug into mystical stereotypes around Chakotay
Last thing we needed was Torres reminiscing about all the piñatas she’d smashed as a child or Kim stinking up the mess hall with his kimchi recipe
It was nice to see their representation in casting as competent officers
but it was quite a contrast at the time with Sisko proudly displaying his Yoruba art collection while lounging in African- inspired casual clothing
I’ve been craving representation that’s less surface than what Voyager did or what Disco does with the bridge crew
though you have to make it feel authentic not just for the cultures being represented but also for the futuristic setting these characters are in
We have such lovely humans who our Star Trek actors and Melissa Navia defiantly among them
It’s was a delight seeing her at ST-SF
This was my first Star Trek Convention and I had a blast
For those of you who haven’t gone to one I highly encourage to go if you can
It’s like coming home for the first time
I was bummed to not be able to ask her a question during the panel
as the line got cut off with the person ahead of me being the final question (which ended up being that one she wasn’t able to answer anyway!) but my girls and I had a great time regardless
I was Thomas Riker with my girls Data and the Vulcan tactical officer
I find Ortega to be one of the best characters introduced in “NuTrek” Ortega is simply amazing
Her best line: “I FLY THE SHIP.” Yes she does
In my view she’s the Travis Mayweather of SNW
Any number of nameless ensigns can fly the ship
All she has to her character are sarcastic quips and an omni-smirk
She wouldn’t last two seconds on Picard or Kirk’s Enterprise…they wouldn’t tolerate the constant and unprofessional backchat
Ro didn’t ultimately last on Picard’s Enterprise
But it wasn’t due to other characters not tolerating her insolence
The energy she brings to the show is amazing
and the ways she has flown the Enterprise (fox example
twin phaser beam to blast a hole in an asteroid so she could fly the ship through it — amazing)
Mayweather was given much more to do than Ortegas: “Detained,” “Fortunate Son,” “Dead Stop,” and “The Seventh,” just off the top of my head
but Mayweather was more professional and likable
“Where is the Hispanic person?”
Ortegas is supposedly based on Jose Tyler (who was originally supposed to be named Ortegas until they cast a blond guy)
who being from Brazil I suppose was technically Lusitanian
Took us *years* before we had anyone even vaguely Jewish

Four of the stars of Paramount+'s Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast are scheduling an away mission to Seattle..
Anson Mount (Christopher Pike), Ethan Peck (Spock), Celia Rose Gooding (Nyota Uhura), and Melissa Navia (Erica Ortegas) are plotting a course to Emerald City Comic Con 2025 to do very much what they do in the show: explore strange new worlds (Have you seen the ECCC Tavern?!)
seek out new life and new civilizations (the meet-ups!)
maybe some of us have been in previous years
but let's not make a big deal out of that last one
