After spending a decade managing a business in Chicago
being hospitalized during a global pandemic left a lasting impression on Oria
“The way the nurses cared for me made me realize I wanted to do something that truly helps people,” says Oria
Oria will begin his career at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago
working in a children’s intensive care unit
he plans to pursue a master’s of science in Nursing (MSN) and doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degrees with the long-term goal of returning to PNW as a nursing professor
I really took the time to understand what each university stood for – what their values are and what type of standards they have
PNW stood out because it was about excellence
The College of Nursing has a very high success rate and upholds this high standard for students to be their best
I liked knowing that my professors would expect a lot from me – not because it’s the standard
but because they believe I can reach that level.”
“What I loved most about PNW is how it pulls the excellence out of you
It’s not just about pushing you academically – they really see your potential
recognize what you’re capable of and help bring that out of you
It just feels good to be part of a university where people genuinely care about making a difference.”
What did you like most about the Nursing program at PNW
challenged and helped me see the full picture of what nursing really is across so many specialties.”
How do you think your involvement in campus organizations and activities helped define your success at PNW
“Being involved and meeting so many different people gave me a new perspective beyond nursing
I started to see how connected everything is – the ripple effect
That sense of interconnectedness really stuck with me
shared growth and how our everyday actions matter is something I’ll take with me and pass on
It taught me that we all have the power to make a difference
even in ways we don’t always see right away.”
Did you have a pivotal experience while attending PNW
“That moment happened in my first clinical
I was assigned to a patient who had terminal lung cancer and was in his final moments
His family couldn’t be with him and while I couldn’t do much
That moment shaped my philosophy as a nurse
every clinical experience has reinforced that
That one moment became the foundation for how I want to practice – choose kindness and help where I can
What words of advice would you share with prospective students looking to attend PNW
it can lead to so many great opportunities.”
Was there anyone at PNW who inspired or encouraged you along the way
It was a whole team of people who guided and supported me in different ways throughout the program
What I really appreciated is how the professors took the time to understand my concerns and helped me grow through them

and intuitive software control to appeal to both creative- and technically-minded users
all handily labelled so you don’t need to manually configure them
ORIA also has 16 AES outputs for speakers with digital inputs
carrying identical signals to the analogue ones
Using Profiles in the software you can easily switch between
an Atmos array plugged into analogue outs and a set of stereo monitors connected to the Left and Right AES outputs
There are also two pairs of analogue stereo outs which mirror the Left and Right signals from the surround array, so you can check mixes on different sets of stereo monitors. Dual headphone amps carry separate mixes that can be set up using mixer software, similar to Audient’s EVO and iD ranges
To keep ORIA as versatile as possible, there’s a variety of input options. Firstly, two digitally-controlled versions of their console preamps are located around the front, set up for microphones, line ins or instruments. Secondly, two banks of ADAT ins allow users to expand the number of inputs by adding mic preamps for recording
or even to pass on 16 channels from an external interface to use ORIA purely as a monitor controller
While ADAT carries up to eight channels per port
the channel count reduces to four once you exceed 48 kHz
If you need to feed in 16 channels at higher sample rates
factory-fit network port will soon be available to add Dante compatibility
Hardware inserts aren’t really possible in an immersive mixing context with ORIA
and for a stereo session would require some frustrating head-scratching and re-patching
The Avid spatial interface does have the edge here
with 16 channels of ADAT in/out and Dante out of the gate
Once speakers are plugged in, setup can begin. If you’ve already taken measurements of your studio for acoustic purposes, ORIA’s system panel allows you to manually configure channel EQ, time alignment and a high-pass crossover frequency for bass management
the Sonarworks integration means that you don’t have to go through all this pain
Audient includes a calibrated measurement microphone in the box to get you started
plus a 60-day trial of the software (you’ll need to invest in the €499 multichannel version to keep using it beyond this point)
Just plug the microphone into a preamp on the interface
follow the simple instructions and within an hour you’ll have a calibration profile covering all the speakers in your room that can be loaded straight into ORIA’s DSP memory
If you’ve experienced the striking difference a speaker calibration system makes to stereo setups
then you’re in for a far bigger ‘wow’ moment with an immersive array
We audition a number of Atmos mixes on high-end speakers
with individual speakers seeming to poke out of the mix at points
and bass sounds are punchy yet tightly controlled; the multitude of speakers start to work as a single entity
the Sonarworks calibration profile is translated into per-speaker EQ and time alignment settings that can be viewed within ORIA’s software panel
An intuitive software interface allows users to match what they’re hearing with on-screen graphics representing the speaker array
rather than a more traditional (and potentially overwhelming) mixer form
Muting and soloing speakers are done with simple mouse clicks and modifier keys
including a Group function for soloing sections of the speaker array such as Front
We wish there was an option to include bass management when soloing channels or groups
you have to solo a channel or Group and then manually add the sub to the solo
some of what you’re hearing in solo will be high-passed
and so doesn’t give a full impression of that speaker or Group’s contribution to the mix
Perhaps this could be addressed in a future update
Audient has made otherwise impenetrable concepts accessible with its smart graphical interface
we get lost in a world of stunning playback quality from the onboard converters on a perfectly calibrated large array
frequently using Groups to deconstruct mixes we’re listening to to gain an insight into the production approach – Atmos nay-sayers ought to try this at some point
we’re also able to switch to a stereo speaker set and different Sonarworks profiles
there’s no trim function per profile to calibrate levels when switching between surround and stereo sets (this could be tricky on speakers that don’t have variable input gain)
ORIA really looks slick installed in a rack
backlit buttons and clear metering on its display
plus a small set of hardware controls to supplement the software experience
recallable gain for each preamp but also an input mute function at the press of a button (this cannot be achieved in the software)
Meters toggle between the various output and input banks
with the most common view being the surround outputs
This is far clearer than interfaces that attempt to display all ins and outs simultaneously in minuscule detail
there are further buttons for monitor controls
Volume reverts the control wheel’s function to master output volume and there’s a handy Profile button to toggle between configuration profiles you’ve set up
A programmable Function button (like those found on EVO and iD interfaces) accesses controls like dim
which restores the master output to a pre-set reference monitoring level
ORIA has an impressive combination of features for its relatively modest price point. Its shortcomings are few, but integrating analogue outboard gear could be a challenge, if that’s your thing.
For studios with an in-the-box mixing workflow, small post-production outfits and creative composers wanting to get started with immersive mixing, ORIA offers an intuitive, impeccable-sounding and highly capable entry point. It’s pretty much a ‘must-buy’ if you’re in one of these camps.

Argentina – The Atmos studio at the Escuela de Música Contemporánea (EMC) has recently integrated Audient ORIA and EVO SP8 into its set-up
It was sound and mastering engineer Fernando Richard who designed and installed the immersive audio system back in 2023
but according to him it was the 2025 acoustics and hardware upgrade that enabled the Buenos Aires education facility to “better accommodate students and the evolving demands of the industry.”
the studio uses two interfaces connected via ADAT to the Audient EVO SP8 Smart preamp with AD/DA
providing a total of 24 input channels and 16 output channels
Another preamp rack is integrated through a patchbay
Fernando uses ORIA with all outputs connected to a 7.1.4 Mackie speaker system
“This dual set-up allows us to seamlessly switch between stereo and immersive formats
making it much more practical for educational purposes,” he says
Fernando found setting up the ORIA a breeze
“Compared to other audio interfaces and monitoring systems
ORIA is incredibly straightforward to set up
Even someone with no prior knowledge of Atmos can get it up and running quickly
I found that it significantly reduced set-up time.”
having worked as a mixing and mastering engineer and taught music production for the last 26 years
Over the last eight years he’s transitioned from stereo to immersive audio format and was the first to install a Dolby Atmos approved music studio – Immersive Audio Solutions (IAS) – in Buenos Aires
He also mixed and mastered the first Spanish-language Atmos album released back in 2019
Fernando has had a lot of experience with ORIA already
having specified and installed the immersive audio interface and monitor controller from Audient in a number of studios across Argentina
including Punta Ballena Immersive Room in Puerto Pirámides
Chubut and Casa Frida Studio in Buenos Aires
Describing what it is that makes sure Audient’s immersive interface stays on his spec list
Fernando explains: “ORIA stands out for its user-friendly design
seamless installation and straightforward calibration
The integration with Sonarworks SoundID Reference makes the calibration process intuitive and easy and the software’s control and routing features eliminate the need for external solutions and complicated I/O configurations
“Another great feature is that all outputs are labelled according to their corresponding speakers rather than generic numbers
making speaker setup and reconfiguration much faster and more efficient.” Even after ORIA is installed and the room calibrated
the system must continue to be user-friendly
“The hardware design is streamlined: there are no unnecessary buttons
and the volume control knob feels precise and well-engineered,” he adds
they have been able to add a new immersive mixing course to the Music Production programme
with the added bonus of being able to host guest speakers and workshops
Director Santiago Beer is in charge of many of the mixing and production courses under the Music Production umbrella and is responsible for the final thesis along with academic director Daniel Johansen
EMC’s general director Marcelo Braga Saralegui and many other fine staff members are part of this educational project
who delivers production and recording courses as well as looking after the Dolby Atmos technology
the academic year is just starting and feedback is already positive
“The staff is very happy with the upgrades
The studio assistant was even able to install the EVO and ORIA without my help
which speaks to how intuitive the setup process is.”
The EVO SP8 replaced an old AD/DA converter
which was previously slaved to one of the other interfaces
“Now EVO SP8 provides 16 channels of optical I/O allowing seamless integration with additional audio interfaces,” he says
noting the additional benefit of “the word clock for synchronisation.”
ORIA and EVO SP8 join a number of other Audient products in the EMC music production department
“I’ve been testing and using Audient gear for years and have always been impressed by its build quality
I frequently recommend Audient interfaces to my students as their first choice for home studios
as they are solid and trouble-free.”
The studios are available to students from both the Music Production and Professional Music programmes
with the speaker system designed to provide an optimal listening experience whilst maintaining a safe and functional space
so this upgrade is a major improvement for hands-on learning,” adds Fernando
underlining the importance of keeping abreast with technological advances
“We are always striving to keep our studio equipment at the cutting edge
The goal is to give students hands-on experience with the latest technology so they graduate fully prepared for the industry.”
the Music Production major requires 34 courses to be completed for graduation over about four years
A total of 65 have graduated in this programme so far
As part of the Berklee Global Partners collective
EMC is one of over 20 international institutions aligned by a common vision and mission
Students from any of these institutions can continue their studies at Berklee College of Music by using the Credit Transfer Agreement (CTA) which allows students to transfer courses taken at partner institutions
One of the favourite majors chosen is Music Production and Engineering
When quizzed about the future of EMC’s Music Production department as a whole
Fernando says: “The lines between musicians
producers and engineers are increasingly blurred; everyone needs to understand technology to succeed in the music business
We’ve seen consistent growth in Music Production enrolment over the years – today there are 150 students registered – and this upward trend continues
we must stay at the forefront of audio technology
studio facilities and educational resources.”

Audient has listened to users and delivered an immersive targeted device suitable for a broad range of multichannel applications
Neatly handles audio and monitor control for use with multi-speaker setups
Can be used as a standalone hardware monitor controller
Integrates directly with Dolby’s Atmos Renderer
As immersive audio production has become more widespread
it’s become clear there is a growing demand to integrate audio interfacing and multichannel monitoring into a single
but it can also be used alongside your existing interface as a dedicated multichannel monitor controller or simply as a regular USB interface
Oria is a 18-in/24-out 24-bit/96kHz USB-C unit with an optional internal Dante expansion for an extra 16 inputs
software-driven and combines Audient’s motion UI display
a large rotary push button encoder and various dedicated soft buttons.
Its quality feel and slick look is complemented by premium AD/DA conversion and digitally controlled versions of Audient’s classic desk preamps
what makes it multichannel-focused is a unique balance of physical connectivity and onboard features
analogue ins are limited to a pair of front-mounted mic/line/instrument inputs.
Meanwhile analogue TRS outputs include two stereo outs
This means Oria can directly feed up to 9.1.6 speaker setups alongside two sets of dedicated stereo monitors.
and management of these speakers is handled by Oria’s onboard DSP and controlled via the Oria desktop app (an iPad version will be available soon)
The use of onboard DSP not only relieves the load on your computer CPU
but also allows Oria to run in standalone mode with settings saved to easily switchable onboard Profiles
dim and mono) are joined by more niche settings such as global delay (0 to 100ms) and polarity
which flips the phase of the left channel and sums the left and right outputs to mono
Some of these options are replicated on the front panel
while the preamp settings are only available from the front panel.
where the app really shines is with the speaker calibration
For manual alignment each speaker has individual trim (+/-12dB)
bass management (high pass cutoff 30 to 500Hz) and 8-band EQ alongside mute and solo.
Oria integrates with Sonarworks SoundID Reference for Multichannel (the box includes the SoundID calibration mic and a 60-day software licence)
it created speaker-specific EQ curves with associated trim and delay settings.
Further handy app features include speaker groupings (fronts
and the colour-coded speaker layout graphic with real time signal indicators
you can use Oria with DAW-integrated Dolby renderers
part of its Dolby Atmos certification is integration via the Dolby Audio Bridge with the Dolby Atmos Renderer.
Linking things up is easily achieved via Oria’s System settings
and once hooked up you’ll find you can switch down mix modes directly from one of Oria’s soft keys.
Pitched at serious multichannel or immersive users seeking a neat fix
Finally a word on headphones: Oria’s outputs can be switched from the default left/right feed to USB streams 17/18 or 19/20
Specify these same streams in your renderer headphone settings to allow easy access to a simultaneous binaural headphone mix.
Oria is a well conceived interface that’s pitched at serious multichannel and immersive users looking for a neat all-in fix.

Liverpool-based full service audio production studio, SODA-SOUND is part of the vanguard of ORIA adopters
installing one of the first Audient immersive audio interface and monitor controllers to come off the production line
SODA-SOUND has been mixing in Atmos for several years
having produced over 8000 spatial mixes for a broad client base including Apple
Describing ORIA as “the solution many of us didn’t realise we were waiting for” SODA-SOUND founder
Ted White has nothing but praise for the new addition to his studio
“The clarity and precision the ORIA brings to the table are transformative
immersive and headphone monitoring has never been smoother
ensuring that mixes translate well across all formats.”
control and monitoring of multi-channel speaker arrays from stereo up to 9.1.6 – and everything in between
Designed specifically for creating immersive mixes for formats such as Dolby Atmos
“Opting to position the ORIA as the primary interface
we were able to streamline our workflow significantly
The ORIA’s flexibility shone through its ability to swap between DAWs and sample rates without a hitch
illustrating its strength as a monitor controller in a dynamic studio environment.”
efficiency at SODA-SOUND has improved beyond their expectations
“We can honestly say we’ve never used an interface that is so able to jump between sessions across multiple DAWs and not have issues along the way
I would say that ORIA has actually increased our productivity most in this sense
our down time between jobs is now virtually nothing
as session hopping has just become a non-issue with the ORIA!”
Ted describes the previous setup – before ORIA came into their orbit
“As we work daily between Stereo and Atmos we needed a system that could manage this continuous back and forth workflow
We ended up adopting a system that also came around as an adaptation of our stereo workflows
which included using multiple interfaces and linking them via ADAT.” This worked
“We had to create a robust quality checking method to ensure the mixes translated well across all systems
once we found something that gave repeatable and reliable results we stuck to what was working.”
With efficiency uppermost in his mind however
Ted was always on the lookout for new technology and gear which would solve their problems
describing it as “a groundbreaking tool.” Indeed he’s so pleased
there are already plans to purchase additional units
“It’s clear that Audient has placed a significant emphasis on both form and function
making the ORIA not only a visually appealing piece of gear but also a highly functional one,” concludes Ted
You can watch the SODA-SOUND Spatial Mixing team talk more about their experience with ORIA here

This article is part of the Research TopicSpinal cord development and neural regenerationView all 11 articles
neural progenitor cells (NPCs) generate three major cell lines: neurons
and astrocytes at precise times and locations within the spinal cord
Recent studies demonstrate early astrogenesis in animal models of spina bifida
which may play a role in neuronal dysfunction associated with this condition
the pathophysiological mechanisms related to this early astrocytic response in spina bifida are poorly understood
This study aimed to characterize the development of early astrogliosis over time from Pax6+
or Nkx2.2+ NPCs using a retinoic acid-induced spina bifida rat model
spinal cords from fetuses with retinoic acid-induced spina bifida
or fetuses treated with the vehicle control were analyzed
Results indicated that premature astrogliosis and astrocytic activation were associated with an altered presence of Pax6+
and Nkx2.2+ NPCs in the lesion compared to the controls
this response correlated with an elevation in genes involved in the Notch-BMP signaling pathway
changes in NPC patterning factor expression with Notch-BMP signaling upregulation may be responsible for the altered astrogenesis patterns observed in the spinal cord in a retinoic acid-induced spina bifida model
A better understanding of this neural injury’s progression will aid in the development of targeted therapeutics that can combat neurodegeneration
This early astrocytic reaction may play a role in the impaired neurogenesis and
the decline in overall neural tissue function
we anticipate that the regulation of NPC differentiation plays a critical role in this reaction
changes in these transcriptional and extracellular signals may be a possible mechanism for earlier astrocyte presence in spina bifida; however
This study characterizes the expression of transcription factors and extracellular signals that regulate NPC differentiation at three time points during gestation (E15
and E20) in a retinoic acid (RA)-induced rat model of in utero spina bifida
we demonstrate a possible implication of Pax6
as well as factors in the Notch-BMP signaling pathway
in the premature shift of NPCs into astrocytes in fetuses with RA-induced spina bifida
These results may lead to new possible therapeutic targets for regulating neurogenesis and gliogenesis in patients with spina bifida
The experimental protocols were in agreement with the National Institutes of Health Guidelines for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and were approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (IACUC 2019-0081)
The following groups were assessed at three gestational ages (E15
MMC: open spinal cords from fetuses with RA-induced spina bifida (n = 6–8 per time point)
Control: spinal cords from non-affected siblings of RA-treated rats (n = 6–8 per time point)
Vehicle: spinal cords from fetuses whose mothers received vehicle (olive oil) (n = 6–8 per time point)
and stored at −80°C until analyzed for gene expression
spinal cords were dissected and fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde for 24 h and processed for paraffin embedding
Samples were ran in duplicate for target genes and were normalized using HPRT1 as an endogenous control
Relative quantification of transcript expression was performed using the 2–ΔΔCt method where Ct represents the threshold cycle
The analysis was conducted according to the functional annotation in “Neurogenesis” genes in the GO database (GO:0022008)
analysis was conducted according to the functional annotation “Astrocyte Differentiation” genes in the GO database (GO:0048708) and “Oligodendrocyte Differentiation” in the GO database (GO:0048709)

These results indicate that early S100b and Aldh1l1 positive astrocytes may play a role in BMP-2 and BMP-4 induced premature astrogliosis in MMC fetuses
we aimed to elucidate a mechanism behind the premature reactive astrogliosis that occurs in a RA-induced spina bifida rat model with the goal of identifying potential therapeutic targets to repair the prenatal neurodegenerative damage that occurs in the spinal cord after exposure to the intrauterine environment
Our data suggests that neurogenesis changes and reactive astrogliosis occurs earlier in the VZ of spinal cords from fetuses with RA-induced spina bifida compared to control groups
Astrocyte precursors are generated by differentiation of radial glial cells in early development (Seo et al., 2008) and from migratory progenitors that emerge from the sub-VZ at later in gestation (Levison and Goldman, 1993)
we propose that NPCs become committed to the astrocyte lineage due the direct exposure to the amniotic fluid in spina bifida by dysregulation in patterning factors
and Nkx2.2 and potentially downregulating neurogenesis and oligodendrogenesis
and BMP signaling in NPC cell fate during gestation and their role in self-propelling earlier astrogliosis observed in spina bifida
our results suggest that inhibiting NPC differentiation into astrocytes through modulation of Notch/BMP signaling or patterning factors could be a promising neuroprotective strategy
the mechanism behind this reaction remains unclear and should be a focus of future pre-clinical studies
Our results further support this evidence as Sox9
and BMP2/4 gene expression was upregulated at the time of early astrogliosis in spina bifida
and BMP2/4 expression with S100b and Aldh1l1
and Nkx2.2 in combination with upregulation of Notch/BMP signaling may be a plausible mechanism for the early NPC differentiation into astrocytes as a protective mechanism after injury induced by amniotic fluid exposure
Future studies are aimed to determine the impact of early astrocytosis on neurons and oligodendrocytes function
as it is hypothesized that NPCs differentiate into astrocytes at the cost of neurogenesis and oligodendrogenesis
developing strategies to prevent premature astrocytosis could improve neural function and overall outcomes in spina bifida patients
our present work identifies several transcriptional targets that would be a promising method to inhibit this astrocytic response
spina bifida is one of the most permanently disabling congenital birth defects
and despite fetal surgery to repair or cover the spinal cord at mid-gestation
significant alterations have already been established before the intervention
Identifying the altered mechanism in glio/neurogenesis in response to fetal spinal cord injury in spina bifida is crucial for the development of new therapeutic strategies to improve functional outcomes in these patients
Our results suggest that targeting patterning factors
as well as BMP/Notch signaling is a promising strategy to impede early gliogenesis in a chemically induced spina bifida rat model

The foray into immersive audio can be a daunting and expensive undertaking
While Atmos is technically headphone compatible
the real benefit and immersion is said to be best achieved with at least a 7.1.4 system
back and side speakers) and 4 height channels (i.e
ceiling speakers) along with a subwoofer/LFE (low-frequency effects channel)
From the sheer number of monitors required to the logistics of bass management and monitor control
the setup can be quite complicated to get started
Audient’s new contender to wrangle this conundrum is the Audient ORIA Immersive Interface and Monitor Controller
a 16 speaker output USB audio interface specifically designed to simplify and address issues that come with such a high channel count of monitor speakers
Read more gear reviews here.
early adopters of Atmos will have encountered a hurdle in the need for something as simple as changing the volume of 12+ channels of studio monitors uniformly and simultaneously
The most accessible and inexpensive version is to use a hi-fi receiver
however this option leaves the user stuck with unbalanced -10dB line-level making it a hassle to interface with +4dB line level balanced studio monitors
while the professional studio options jump quite considerably in price
The ORIA is a very welcome addition to the landscape
as it not only provides the option of a fully optimised monitor controller
but can also act as the audio interface completely
and has the added bonus of built in equalisation
time delay and bass management for each individual channel
The unit also features two onboard mic pres on the front of the unit
which can double as high impedance instrument inputs
If more inputs are needed there is the possibility of a further 16 inputs via ADAT
as well as an optional Dante port for even more input options
Connection to studio monitors is via TRS 6.5mm sockets on the back of the unit
of which there are 16 for full surround sound duties
plus two additional stereo pairs for alternative L/R monitoring
the ORIA features 16 channels of AES outputs via DB-25
perfect for plugging straight into studio monitors that feature a digital input
negating an unnecessary digital to analogue and analogue to digital round of conversion
Rounding out the I/O are two headphone ports on the front (which can each each be routed to their own discrete inputs) word clock input and output
and of course the USB-C port for connecting to a computer (which can be used as a USB-A 2.0 device) on the rear
Pulling the unit out of the box reveals a smart
sleek unit with backlit buttons and a nice multi-display
which won’t look out of place in any rack of gear
The unit cheerily displays “Dolby Atmos” upon startup
and then defaults to show the monitor outputs for the surround channels
fortunately for Mac users setup was a matter of plugging in the ORIA and loading up my selected DAW
while Windows users will need to install a driver before getting started
it is recommended all users install the Monitor Controller software to reap the full benefits of the system
and the real engine of the ORIA’s options for EQ
Upon loading up I was advised by the software to update the firmware on the device
and this was as simple as hitting the ‘OK’ button and waiting a few minutes while the update was delivered
Once that was completed I restarted the unit and we were in business
The ORIA software gives a clear and easy overview of the studio layout
as well as easy options for different room profiles and metering
with the floating meter window option being very convenient
clicking on any of the speaker icons in the “Room” screen gives the user the option to apply up to 8 parametric bands of eq plus a high and low shelf
With such a number of monitors around the listener
these options are hugely important in immersive audio
to ensure an equal distance and even panning is achievable as objects move around the listener
one can push speakers “further away” by delaying certain channels that might otherwise be too close in a room not be perfectly shaped for Atmos’ regulations
Audient have made what can be a complicated and confusing setup quite compact and simple in the layout of this software
Other great software features are the inclusion of solo buttons for different groups of monitors
which is great for quickly checking what the overhead or LFE/sub channels are doing on their own
which should be used to measure each individual channel’s frequency and time alignment to achieve maximum accuracy and optimised monitor placement
plus if the user wished to take things further there is a discount provided for the even more customisable Sonarworks Monitor EQ software
The Audient ORIA has really filled a hole in the dilemma of immersive audio setup
and with this box Audient have provided both a starting from scratch audio interface
to a monitor controller that can fit with many pre-existing studio setups
the ORIA is a great option for taming the Atmos beast

Construction is well underway on a sculptural 15-storey residential tower in Spring Hill called Oria
which will create 132 new homes close to the upcoming Olympic Stadium
The Keylin Group project is being built by Brisbane-based CoStruct
which specialises in high-end multistorey developments
A render of Oria: a new residential tower planned for Brisbane by Keylin Group
Designed by MAS Architecture and built by CoStruct
The launch date has been set for early June 2025 for home sales
with two-bedroom apartments priced from $989,000 and three-bedroom apartments from $2,170,000
with all basement slabs and columns now poured,” according to the firm
“Works to to the podium (ground floor) slab have commenced and will be completed mid-May
Oria is on track for settlements in early 2027.”
a new art deco residential tower planned for Spring Hill in Brisbane by Keylin Group
Keylin managing director Louis Cheung said the site’s elevation could give residents a front-row seat to the event
is thrilled with the art-deco inspired Oria development at 447 Gregory Terrace
saying residents would have front row seats to the Games from the site’s elevated position
“We’ve always known Spring Hill was an incredible location
and I’ve had a personal connection with this area dating back to my school years,” Mr Cheung said
“As Brisbane’s oldest suburb it’s an area steeped in history
and the Olympics legacy will add another layer to that history for the benefit of generations to come.”
“This will be felt not only in terms of the green spaces and world-class sports infrastructure at Victoria Park and the Centenary Aquatic Centre
but also the RNA Showgrounds and future Athletes Village
It will be an extraordinary backyard for the future residents of Oria.”
Renders of what Oria’s exterior will be like when complete
Shared amenities for buyers are available on the rooftop
The tower crane for the project was installed in January with the first residential levels on track to rise above their Gregory Terrace address this month
with the site to have premium rooftop amenities such as a pool
First residents are due to move in five years before the Brisbane Olympics
Spring Hill is on the fringes of the Brisbane CBD with a mix of heritage architecture and culture
entertainment and dining precincts such as King Street
The Tivoli and the RNA Showgrounds where an upgraded Olympic facility will be built plus the new Olympic Village for athletes
An aerial shot of Oria’s location in Spring Hill
opposite the future Victoria Park Olympic Stadium
With an estimated move-in date of early 2027
residents can make a home for themselves here before the stadium is finished
but the benefits are real and lucrative,” the Keylin head said of the Olympic infrastructural impact
“Sydney’s experience was mirrored in London and Beijing
and it will be the same case for Brisbane.”
Urbis director Paul Riga said “we know from other host cities that long-term growth in property values can be linked to the lasting infrastructure improvements made for the Games.”
“Property values in Sydney lifted significantly in the seven years prior to the 2000 Olympic Games
increasing 8% per annum across median apartment prices and 7.7% per annum across median house prices.”
“The five years following the Sydney Olympics saw the median apartment price grow a further 7.6 per cent per annum
while the median house price grew 12.8 per cent per annum.”

Natale “Dee” Joseph D’Oria
passed away at his family home on Wednesday morning
Mabel Alma D’Oria née Daughtridge
He is survived by his daughter Bonnie Hamrick of Cornelius
Germany; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren
and grandfather who will be dearly missed by those whose lives he touched
He was known by many names through his life: he was Dee
and Peepa to the many friends and family members who held him dear
The devoted pets whom he rescued and on whom he doted throughout his life – including Kaiser
and Troy – presumably knew him by no names; but they loved him no less dearly for that
Donato D’Oria and Angelina DiRenzo D’Oria
Dee served honorably on five ships in the North Atlantic
He was decorated with numerous campaign medals
He was discharged from the Navy after the end of the war as a Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class
Dee documented his experiences in the War with his faithful camera: the No
Dee’s many photographs of the war provide an invaluable firsthand record of the most turbulent time the world has ever known
His camera followed him the rest of his life: Dee never stopped documenting on film his rich experiences of the world
His adopted role as family historian made it a rare sight to see him on outings without camera in hand
His many photographs now constitute a detailed record of a life well-lived and well-loved
Dee received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in business from Strayer College
Dee was a first-generation student: the first of his family to receive a college degree
all of whom went on to receive degrees in higher education
Dee’s life of public service continued in both his career and his extensive volunteer work
and the Budget and Financial Division of the U.S
where he eventually received the title of Director
Dee was particularly grateful for his 35 years at the Department of Commerce
which afforded him the opportunity to see the world again through fresh eyes and outside of a military context
His children fondly remember Dee’s eagerness to discover souvenirs and treasures from around the world to bring home for them
Dee was a member of Lions Clubs International for over 40 years and he later joined American Legion Post #86
He was proudest of his instrumental role in organizing construction of the Cornelius Veteran’s Monument
honoring all residents of Cornelius who served in our country’s military
his own name can be found inscribed on that monument
Dee loved using his skills to benefit others late in life
He performed genealogical research for 35 families of friends and relatives
tracing the lineage of some families back for centuries
Those who visited him at his family home were often treated to a solo harmonica performance – a musical talent that he discovered during his early years aboard ships in the Navy
An appearance of the harmonica at his birthday proved that he had "still got it" even at 98 years old
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 A.M
The family will receive friends immediately following the service
donations may be sent to American Legion Post #86
Please attach the following memo to donations: “In honor of Dee D’oria”

Shelly Oria is the editor of I Know What’s Best for You: Stories on Reproductive Freedom
a multi-genre collection from twenty-eight writers and artists working across genre and disciplines to explore one of the most pressing issues of our time
AMANDA UHLE: When people first hear about this book
there’s sometimes an immediate impulse to generalize it as a book about abortion
Because this book is about many aspects of reproductive freedom
Remember how it’s about the way different issues—from racism to the climate crisis and more—intersect with reproductive freedom
And it would be this awkward moment because I curated and edited this book
and I really should know what it’s about
I’m so glad that didn’t happen
AU: Another common generalization might be that an anthology like this would be primarily personal essays—nonfiction that speaks to individuals’ experiences with the issue
It’s most decidedly and distinctively not that
SO: You know, it was one of the first things I knew about this book, way before it was a book: that I wanted it to be even more multigenre than Indelible in the Hippocampus: Writings from the Me Too Movement (which featured fiction
I’d talked in interviews about how exciting this aspect of Indelible was to me
I was just on the heels of that book tour when we started this project that became I Know What’s Best for You
if I’m talking so much about the multigenre thing
let’s make it mean even more with this new book
So we did: not only stories and essays and poems this time
Part of this is really just my own artistic and personal preference
I’m multigenre to my core—as a writer
but mostly I mean something deeper than that: my queerness feels connected to this choice
bi-lingual identity feels invested in this choice… I’m very “both and” in the way I approach life
when it came to curating this type of space
I went all deep here and sort of skipped the more obvious answer: this is about creative inclusivity for me
the scope of voices we can invite is greatly diminished by this choice of genre
and that’s twice as true with this sensitive topic
to respond with nonfiction or creative nonfiction
And I think this go-to choice of ours is…
It keeps our cultural conversations smaller and more narrow than they could otherwise be
I wanted to take a far more expansive approach
What might a writer explore in this context if they’re free to write fiction or poetry or a play
if they’re free to imagine and call upon their most creative part
AU: In the process of working on this book with you for many years now
I’ve perceived an evolution in the issue of reproductive freedom both in the US and around the world
How have those changes affected your editorial process
SO: It’s scary to think about the fact that we started this project back in 2019 because things were already so dire—that year alone
so many states were passing new laws restricting abortion in different ways—and to then consider the degree of escalation we’ve witnessed since then… I mean
that was before the Mississippi case…
I remember that lunch I had with Carol—and I’ll say here for the readers that that’s Carol Davis, one of the women behind The Brigid Alliance
a nonprofit that arranges and pays the way for pregnant people around the country forced to travel for abortion care (and our partner in this book)—and hearing for the first time about CPCs (crisis pregnancy centers)
which gave womxn false medical information
misled womxn about how much time they had to make a decision about their pregnancy… It changed my brain
And I ended up writing about it in my own story in the book
which features sixteen writers and artists from around the globe responding to aspects of reproductive freedom in their locale
beautiful boundaries I had earlier on that helped ensure I’d have sufficient time for my own writing outside of this project kind of went to shit
Can I say “shit” in this interview
you can say “shit.” I think 2022 feels like a time in history when expletives are the most apt form of expression sometimes
As I also know from our work together on this
approaching prospective contributors has resulted in a vast range of responses
from extreme reluctance to unchecked enthusiasm
and one that admittedly I haven’t given that much thought to… I’ve been in hyper “do” mode with this project
so I was observing this range you allude to
but not focusing on it much—if someone wasn’t enthused about the topic
I can say the number of cis men writers whose politics I know to be aligned with the book
who said they didn’t feel comfortable writing on this topic or didn’t have much to say about it creatively… that number was high
And I think it points to the framing of this topic—politically
culturally—as a “women’s issue,” which results in many good men feeling… a smaller sense of responsibility than I’d personally like to see them feel
And yet… how are American men using their power and privilege to fight for abortion rights
Another specific challenge I can name was finding trans contributors—I invited so many trans writers and artists I love
and in the end didn’t send us anything
my takeaway is different: I think trans folx are excluded not only from the mainstream conversation of reproductive freedom
but from the collective consciousness on this topic to such a degree… that it requires superhuman powers for them to break through
I’m here too in this space and I belong in this conversation and here’s a story/play/poem that I wrote about it… It requires bionic effort from folx forced to exert this level of effort so often already
that they just have to pick their battles much more wisely
though—and you know this as well as I do—the “unchecked enthusiasm,” as you put it
People who care about this issue really care about this issue… Whether they wrote for the book
or supported it in myriad other ways… I’ve felt so held throughout this process
AU: A more traditional approach to change-making in the world through books and writing might involve writing legislation or petitions or manifestos
This book is wholly different; it’s art and literature
What power do those things have to shape the world where we live
SO: I’ve been thinking so much about this lately—and you and I have talked about it some: how essential art is
how essential books are in this moment in particular
I think most forms of activism require a good degree of clarity and a crystallized definition of goals to be effective
literature… they’re all about exploring nuance and complexity
if we want to make the point that different forms of aggression toward womxn and their bodies aren’t as distinct as our discourse seems to suggest—that it’s not shocking that the society in which sexual assault is so rampant is the same one now policing and controlling womxn’s bodies in this other way
by trying to force them to stay pregnant when they don’t wish to… If we try to connect the dots between these different issues
that’s arguably an effort that art is much better equipped to take on
This isn’t to say that we don’t need petitions and legislation… That’s clear
We need to be signing petitions and writing legislation and fighting in courtrooms and marching the streets
We just also need to make art about all of it in the process
and we need to be receiving the art of others
and we need to remember that it’s crucial
in the most literal sense: we can’t survive without it

(CNS): Video of three American military helicopters coming into land at Owen Roberts International Airport on Monday was circulated on social media
raising the question of what they were doing here
the three choppers are from the Joint Task Force-Bravo and stayed on the island overnight to refuel
which unofficial sources identified as one US Boeing CH-47 Chinook and two Blackhawks
were scheduled to leave later that morning
officials have confirmed that the stay was extended due to poor weather at their next destination
“Joint Task Force-Bravo routinely train and exercise in the region to improve their readiness for humanitarian assistance and contingency response,” officials from the government’s communication department said

Customs and Border Control (CBC) have seized just under 80lbs of ganja from two separate smugglers at Owen Roberts International Airport
who are now on remand at HMP Northward and HMP Fairbanks
CBC officers stopped the first of the two on his arrival at the airport from Toronto
An x-ray examination of his bags revealed irregularities and a physical search uncovered 34 clear vacuum-sealed packs containing weed
The passenger was arrested and later charged with importation and possession with intent to supply 29.15lbs of marijuana
When he appeared before the Summary Court last week
he pleaded guilty to both charges and was remanded in custody pending sentence
CBC officers seized approximately 50lbs of marijuana from a female Canadian national also arriving from Toronto on Thursday
She was arrested for importation and possession with intent to supply and appeared before the Summary Court on Monday
CBC Senior Deputy Director Kevin Walton explained that CBS is seeing changing patterns in smuggling
“The rising demand for high-grade marijuana has led to significant changes in smuggling routes and we have seen an increase in importation,” he said
particularly for marijuana produced in North America
Passengers must remember that while marijuana extracts and tinctures are permitted for medical or therapeutic purposes when prescribed by a medical doctor in the Cayman Islands
and importation of marijuana remain illegal in the Cayman Islands,” he added

Cayman has become a haven now for some lowest form humans on this planet
Well there goes a Merry Green Christmas…
I may or may not have hypothetically noticed that a couple hundred pounds of fresh jamaican herb landed last night from my bad boy cousins’ private social media story
Just in time for Christmas eve spending spree
let’s keep it illegal so they have a lucrative side hustle that may also bring guns for the ride
buy it bulk at 80 USD/lb and landed it’s 700 KYD/lb wholesale
And when you compare what alcohol does to your body
the weed is both a medicine and mind expander used in the right way
it still won’t pickle your kidneys and liver
Can’t say the same about the devil’s juice though since you subscribe to the usual 1950’s Reefer Madness nonsense
80lbs of weed and they could have bought one of those THC gummies from our unnamed businesses
But the local banks love employing em eh!!
I had a decent 5 skinner planned as well 😒
but we’ve always gotten a majority of losers from elsewhere that simply misrepresent themselves as their homeland’s best
Its true that we dont get the best from elsewhere
doesnt that suggest that the market cant find enough/good enough here
That’s why they are employed even though they aren’t qualified
We are devoting our resources to the wrong offenders
employing elderly and other marginalised folk to grow and process it
We should be devoting our CBC and RCIPS resources toward detecting and seizing hard drugs
We could actually have something we can export
Nor would Govt have to borrow every single dollar they spend
Go move somewhere else where you can do your drugs legally and keep your stoned backside out of Cayman you useless whiner
Height of hypocrisy as you turn a blind eye to unrestricted quantities of alcohol sales 7 days a week
Alcohol possession isn’t a class 1 narcotic earning jail time
That’s an important difference that should inform life choices
which can be overdosed on and claims Caymanian lives every year
is somehow better and safer for recreational sales than weed
So we keep weed illegal and allow the black market to profit massively like the failed prohibition on alcohol a century ago
All of you opposing it sound like Karens who got indoctrinated by reefer madness propaganda in the 1960s
The war on drugs is a failed effort to criminalize anyone who isn’t an elderly white christian
The little gas station in front of Kirk’s had a couple of fridges with beer so if you needed some for your boat on Sunday
A few other places got away with selling on that basis too
Dart changed all of that by opening West Indies Wine Company at Camana Bay (now closed)
Rather than limit WIWC to tasting/serving only on Sunday
and beer they kept in the back) from 1-9pm on Sunday
Peanuts gas station in Red Bay wanted a licence
The Liquor Board approved Sunday sales for that whole class of business
but altered their published minutes to say they hadn’t
The new board was obliged to issue the licence
other gas station and convenience store owners said ‘well if they’re doing it we have to do it’
You can still see evidence of how we used to have a hesitation and stigma around alcohol by the fact that sales are illegal on Election Day from 7am-7pm
we don’t turn a blind eye to alcohol sales 7 days a week
We didn’t have that for the first 25 years of my life
We dealt with the inconvenience of not having the option for decades
and listened to tourists complain about it too
shops can be open for 6 hours from 10am-6pm
At least the UK applies that to much more forms of Sunday trading
they would rather have everything else open on Sunday and need to buy their booze the other six days of the week
But it turns out the only businesses that want to open on Sunday are the ones that can sell alcohol
Small businesses with more coolers than employees on duty
So we couldn’t get Sunday trading for other stuff because every business owner said ‘if you let my competitiors open they will and I will have to as well’
And they are lazy and like to keep Sunday for enjoying their money
there’s no cap on the amount an adult to buy
allowing the deaths we see on the road and overdoses (which you can’t on weed)
Show me one person who becomes more productive while drunk
All of unna old farts just need to go retire from politics and stop controlling other people’s lives like hypocrites
I’m medically prescribed ganja and have a degree
so as a highly productive employee you can’t do shxt to me about consumption at home
but you need to spell it correctly: Legalise
we were discovering the medical benefits of ganja before you were born
were utilising the scientific method to perform repeatable experiments upon the purity and safety in the human physiology
Spoiler: Ganja is safe and even vastly beneficial to the human physiology
It is safer to ingest the oils than to smoke it
Someone didn’t tell them there’s already weed on the island??
legalise and quash the criminal records for simple possession
too many kids and young adults with criminal records preventing them from going overseas for an education
you are still 13 times more likely to crash if you are texting and driving like half the drivers on the roads
If people do not want criminal records they should refrain from committing crimes
Consumption and simple possession should not be a crime
And you knew that before you consumed or possessed
That would make you a criminal and subject to having a criminal record
Using your phone while driving is also a crime
but everyone does it and the police don’t care
enforce some laws don’t enforce others
I am not arguing that banning texting while driving should be legal “ because it is so common “
it is so common because a very sensible law is not being routinely and effectively enforced
The Police and their haphazard selective enforcement are the problem
THC from weed was also present in 80% of DUI blood tests from fatalities reviewed by NHTSA
It’s s contributing factor in many road fatalities
There is no permissible amount of high driving in the Cayman Islands
you do know it stays in your system for many days
including drug testing motorists that present cause
Your level of declarative assertation requires a credible citation
You can’t just cite a made-up statistic and expect everyone to just parrot your view
You have already screwed your own cerebral cortex
You have no right to screw with the integrity of other people’s skulls

Among 13 children in a struggling Ivory Coast family
it would have been understandable if Vincent Oria went into business
long before becoming chairman of NJIT's Department of Computer Science
he followed his schoolteacher father into the world of academics
concentrating on physics as he loved the applied mathematics of science
But there wasn't much opportunity for physicists in the West African nation of beaches and rainforests
A mentor suggested that he switch to computing as a pragmatic career alternative
He was awarded a scholarship to study in France and agreed to go after extensive persuasion from his school head
Now, 30 years removed from doctoral studies at Télécom Paris, Oria's concentration is shifting again, this time temporarily away from his intellectual pursuit of database and multimedia systems and into the department leadership, with an extra focus on how to recruit Black students and faculty
he thinks of people who doubted his ability
there was his desire to be known as a good researcher
He can partially identify with American Black students
though it happened only after leaving his home country
"I didn't go through the same issues that they went through
and I cannot say that I would be where I am currently if I grew up here
I was given some opportunities and I was lucky to have had a scholarship my entire time," he explained
Oria has peers who were less fortunate and he knows how intelligent
hardworking students can easily be written off for circumstances beyond their control
such as not having the same educational resources as students from middle-class or wealthy locations
"When we discuss about increasing the Black [student] population
Is it because we don't have too many applicants
too often they hear that they don't have the right background to get admitted
Oria certainly wishes he could hire other Black professors
"Even when I go to conferences I don't see that many [Black professors]
and others … because you have a critical mass
We don't have a similar mass for the Black population
now accounting for 10% of the undergraduate population
Oria and NJIT President Teik C. Lim both want to do more. "The funding for these important initiatives will open more doors for more people, and will yield a better and more diverse workforce. Talent is everywhere, but opportunities are not — we are fixing that,” Lim said recently
Either you get it at home or through a teacher
Everybody has stories where they were inspired by a teacher," Oria said
"I remember going overseas for a conference
You have some minority Blacks there [but] when they saw me they asked what am I doing here
I think having Black faculty is a way to be role models for our students."
"We need diversity and we are in Newark where we have a lot of Blacks
but not on the faculty level or among the students and that is a problem," he continued
Make everyone feel comfortable regardless."
Even among trending technologies such as artificial intelligence
He gave the example of how AI software might advise that a neighborhood is good or bad
Oria is currently reading two books — "Weapons of Math Destruction" and "Great Philosophical Objections to Artificial Intelligence"
"Computer science is evolving," but computers have no instincts and they can't yet improvise
can change for the better — "Human beings are nothing but good learning machines."

candidate for Ondo Central Senatorial District in the 2023 general election
has expressed concerns over the party’s chances in future elections
stating that internal divisions could hinder its success in 2027
Oria criticized the party’s leadership for failing to foster inclusivity and unity
makes it difficult for indigenous people from other regions to accept it,” he said
particularly the controversy surrounding the party’s governorship candidate for the 2024 Ondo State election
The LP was embroiled in a legal battle over the nomination of Mr
the leadership of our party is selfish,” Oria stated
“They need to bridge divides and engage all ethnic groups rather than being perceived as a party for a particular tribe.”
He also criticised the appointment of a state chairman who could not speak the local language
arguing that such a move alienates the party from the indigenous population
“We must make our political party friendly and accommodating to all regions of the country,” he said
“There is no leadership without the people.”
Oria warned that unless the LP urgently restructures and adopts a more inclusive approach
it will struggle to secure victory in the 2027 elections

(CNS): Work has begun on developing a new parking facility at Owen Roberts International Airport
which will create 300 more spaces east of the terminal
The Cayman Islands Airport Authority said the facility will offer a modern parking management system and enhanced lighting to ensure safety and convenience for all customers
as the current facilities have reached capacity
Given the challenge of efficiently accommodating the growing number of passengers
the new parking area will alleviate congestion and provide convenient access while improving the overall efficiency of airport parking
It will also accommodate the vehicles used by airport workers
ground handling service providers and other airport partners
The cost of the project has not been revealed amid the ever-growing tab for the redevelopment of Grand Cayman’s airport
CIAA Board Chair Johann Moxam said that developing a new long-term parking facility at Owen Roberts International Airport was a “vital enhancement” to Cayman’s primary gateway
“As travel to and from the Cayman Islands continues to grow
ensuring that our infrastructure can accommodate that growth is crucial,” Moxam stated
“This project not only reflects our commitment to improving the travel experience for residents but also demonstrates our dedication to continuously improving our airports.”
Tourism Minister Kenneth Bryan said it was a significant step forward in the commitment to enhancing the travel experience for passengers
“Our local Caymanian customers will no longer have to worry about parking availability during our peak periods
The additional parking facility will greatly improve convenience and accessibility
ensuring that our airport continues to provide the highest standard of service,” he added

Why not ask DART to build a decent parking garage like the ones at Camana Bay
Clearing more land to pave another parking lot that will likely not be covered and/or maintained like the present one is a complete waste of money
Why not try to purchase land behind the current long term lot and build a multi story garage with an overhead walkway to the second floor of the airport and then put in an escalator and stairs down to the first floor..Solve two problems at once…
Right now the current airport is not fit for purpose if its raining
Neither parking lot is covered and both flood in areas when it rains
You can’t even drive up to the terminal to drop someone off because there are no covered entry ways to the terminal
let’s do it right the first time instead of pissing away more money into an already mal-designed airport
Kenneth needs to take that $1.2M that he is wasting on a referendum that no one wants and Julie needs to take that $50M for her monument in the Brac plus the $12M she has to build the tenement yard for the Jamaicans she is bringing over to build and use it towards getting a proper parking garage built
Julie has already screwed up Education and Kenneth is on his way to destroying Tourism
We should never let either one of them near political office ever again
why not just build a parking garage dunces…
the things people will do for a bit of power
Anyone else noticed the first “facility” the CIG have placed at the additional plane spot they have made
That’s right folks the first thing passengers see when they disembark in Cayman is a bright blue PortaLoo
and how much did we pay for the airport enhancements
“ It will also accommodate the vehicles used by airport workers
ground handling service providers and other airport partners.” Who will give up their private car park nearest the terminal
Evidence we should get rid of cruiseships completely
Are you willing to increase the cost of this project by multiple millions of dollars????
Put our sunshades back on the roofline of the airport
Didn’t the architectural renderings envisage some kind of green glass or material that resembled turtles
But for the grossly exceeded budget all we got was some white tarps
Delete the needlessly bizarre manned gatekeeper
Then you would have to run a shuttle back and forth……….
“Are you picking up or dropping off?”
Why are the natives so utterly terrified of anything more than a single story?
It it isn’t low density residential it’s low density parking
if not that it’s low density customer service at CIG and so on
If you live in Bodden Town unless you travel for more than 20 days .
its always cheaper to park at the airport … $70 one way with only one suitcase via taxi … not to mention if you are getting the early morning flight to Miami …
So will they fix the pot holes and remove the derelict vehicles from the this new field or will it be managed on the same basis as the existing field
maybe get the existing parking ticketing machine working properly first….??????
To be fair it only hasn’t worked for 20 years
We’ve asked for that airport public bus service for many years
Despite clear public interest and benefit it will likely never happen
CIG protects and enforces the taxi carter’s exclusive rights to passengers at that location
10:30 Come on don’t you the airports authority is not part of our world class civil service
The word authority should give you a hint that staff of the authority are public servants governed by a private sector board
This is precisely why I park at the airport even for two weeks at a time when I travel
Much rather pay $100 for the time than $50 for a 12 minute ride home
The Cayman electorate continually shows why the country is a mess
‘The cost of the project has not been revealed amid the ever-growing tab for the redevelopment of Grand Cayman’s airport.’
Should have went with the Canadian Airport proposal 10 years ago
This airport is a continual drain on Caymanian Government finances
Nobody knows the true costs except a small group
I shed a tear every time I visit the Bermuda Airport
We are so Third World the way we do some things here
not the half a BILLION dollars in salaries to keep the local voting bloc employed
I get quite upset when I have to go there too
But a fantastic fit for purpose first class airport
Bet you never get upset going through the Bermuda Airport
“continual drain on Caymanian Government finances”
Can anyone in the Cayman Islands actually name a project our (any) Cayman Govt has ever brought to fruition that wasn’t a continual drain on finances from the day they broke ground on it
“We are so Third World the way we do some things here.”
are insane doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results
75% of a single story sounds about right in Cayman
They could connect it to the terminal also
so people (think especially a single parent with children and the elderly or injured/disabled) would get drenched or sweating in the sun
Similar to the Dart car park at Camana Bay
Why does CIG and so many others have such an aversion to vertical building
good to see that it will accommodate airport workers
although we’ll see whether that happens
Totally ridiculous that the closest parking has been reserved for airport workers past several years
A lot of this would be unnecessary if we had an Uber or similar
since I’d rather pay for that than give money to a hyperinflated taxi fee
Fix public transportation and the taxi cartels and just watch how some problems ease off
they’re definitely gonna mess this up
They have probably enlisted the same designers as Foster’s Airport car park
So it will be a really long walk in the pissing rain
whether you are “a local Caymanian” or not
Take an umbrella if you are worried about the paltry 4″ of rain we get each month
Or you’ll be able to ride the Jon Jon donkey cart shuttle to the terminal
Meanwhile lots of Airport staff continue to park illegally on the empty lot next to Andy’s rent a car
Just try and find parking in the lot in a holiday weekend

The winery has plans for further global expansion – international exports form 80% of its business
Spanish wine maker Bodegas Torre Oria has sold a 35% share of the business to private-equity firm Portobello Capital to help boost its international growth
produces and distributes cava and still wine to domestic and international markets
marks Portobello Capital’s first investment in wine
The capital will be used to support the company in further global expansion – international exports currently form 80% of the winery’s business
Torre Oria will also look to “strengthen its main brands and develop innovative products in the wine sector”
It comes as Torre Oria this year doubled its production capacity with a new bottling plant
The facility took the winery’s capacity from 35m to 70m bottles per year
The deal will not affect the current leadership team
Since then it has increased turnover 11-fold
posting revenues in excess of EUR37m (US$39.3m) in the financial year ending September 2022
Don’t let policy changes catch you off guard
Stay proactive with real-time data and expert analysis
Portobello Capital said it “aims to support Torre Oria and its current shareholders in the next phase of international growth”
Bautista said: “Since our arrival in 2013 we have managed to transform a local company into a group with a consolidated international position… Now we believe that the time has come to take the next step that allows Torre Oria to achieve more ambitious challenges.”
He added: “Portobello has built many success stories in the industry and that we are convinced will be the ideal partner to accompany us in this new stage.”
This is Portobello Capital’s first investment in a food or beverage manufacturer as a minority partner
under the Portobello Structured Partnerships Fund I
which provides funding to “middle-market companies and entrepreneurs” in Europe
It told Just Drinks: “Portobello launched in 2020 a new strategy dedicated to minority
This strategy perfectly fit with Torre Oria as the upcoming partners were not sellers and did not want to cede control; they will lead
Torre Oria is the minority fund’s third investment
Portobello Capital added Torre Oria was “a unique asset” due to its “asset-light business model
highly efficient and operating at scale in a predominantly asset intensive
