addressed to the Commissioner of Police of Delta State
claimed violation of their rights to worship
The ICHC stated: “We hereby submit this petition to formally address the grievances resulting from acts perpetrated by Mr
a Superintendent of the Nigeria Police Force
along with his associates and followers of the Great God Holy Tabernacle
accompanied by the following individuals- Mr
Chalington Owan- engaged in an unlawful act that resulted in the arson of our sacred worship site
“This act constituted a willful destruction of property and a blatant act of arson against a place of worship
“Despite the peaceful attempts by worshippers of the Osuopele Temple to prevent this destruction
they were overpowered and assaulted by the aforementioned individuals
“This aggression did not only result in the demolition of the sacred worship site but also cause a significant breach of public peace.”
The cultural group said in adherence to their legal obligations as law-abiding citizens
the worshippers of Osuopele did not resort to self-help but opted to report the incident to the Nigeria Police Force
The group further stated: “We request urgent and appropriate actions from your office to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure that justice prevails against the unlawful acts committed by the aforementioned individuals
“The unlawful actions committed during this incident are in direct violation of the following provisions of the Criminal Code Act:
“Section 443 criminalizes the willful setting of fire to structures
making any individual found guilty liable for life imprisonment
“Section 444 criminalises attempts to unlawfully set fire to property as detailed in Section 443
punishable by up to 14 years of imprisonment
Tamarauebi Elisha Owan and his associates constitute a violation of the fundamental rights of the worshipers of the Osuopele Deity
as enshrined in Section 38 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As Amended)
This Section guarantees the right to freedom of thought
we urge the Nigeria Police Force to undertake immediate investigation into these acts of arson and to take appropriate legal actions against Mr
“We trust that this serious matter will be treated with the urgency it deserves to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of all citizens in Nigeria
“The above provisions of the Criminal Code Act speak for themselves and call for the urgent investigation
arrest and prosecution of Superintendent Tamarauebi Elisha Owan and others.”
urged the police to act fast before the matter degenerates
He stated: “We are using this medium to call on the Nigeria police force to act before this matter degenerates into an inter-religious crises as we are doing all our best to calm the temper of our worshippers
“The situation is nothing but a clear case of intimidation
harassment and infringement on our rights of worship.”

In 2020 a sculpture of her was unveiled in the town of Oroso in northern Spain
in tribute to her accomplishments as a pilgrim
The Revd Canon Mark Dimond said: “I hope this new sculpture will provide a focal point for Margery Kempe in her hometown
With some 1,200 visitors passing through the Minster each week in the summer months

Margery Kempe, who was born in King's Lynn (known back then as Bishop's Lynn) circa 1373, has a new statue that has been unveiled in the Portuguese province of Góis.
The sculpture was donated by the Portuguese municipality of Góis and is located in the roundabout of A Foca
The inauguration was attended by the president of the Municipal Chamber of Góis
who was seen as controversial and somewhat disliked in her home town of Lynn was a revolutionary feminist who was outspoken about taboo subjects such as sexuality

The Delta State High Court sitting in the Bomadi Judicial Division has declared Egrangbene in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State as an autonomous community
distinct and separate from the Oporomor Clan/Kingdom
The judgment included the following declaration: “Following the case
I hereby declare that Egrangbene Community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State is an autonomous community
distinct and separate from all other communities in Burutu Local Government Area
The court also noted that “Reliefs two and three of the claimants are refused

A declaration that Egrangbene Federated Community
as an autonomous community with its own traditions and customs
is entitled to its own king/traditional ruler
An order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from initiating or continuing the process for the nomination
and installation of a new king for Oporomor Kingdom
including the people of Egrangbene Community
Opena Esamasuode (for Akorugbene Community)
and Samuel Tamaraumienyefa (for Ndoro Community)
contested the claimants’ case through their counsels
Chief Benjamin Fankoro Yeigagha Esq and Anthony Riasavwe Esq
The court resolved the matter in favor of the claimants
“I agree that the claimants are entitled to have their own king and kingdom
I am cautious not to liken Oporomor Clan to a state within Nigeria
and Ebeberegbene as communities with common customs and traditions.”
The judgment has led to jubilation among the Egrangbene Federated Communities
who view the decision as a significant victory
“The court has proven that it is indeed the last hope of the common man.”
