News | Mar 18 Miguel Del Rio-Gomez and David Ramos-Palma had similar circumstances surrounding their drug smuggling arrests in Eagle County the men received identical sentences in their cases Ramos-Palma was the driver of a vehicle stopped by authorities on Interstate 70 while traveling through Eagle County on July 26 Del Rio-Gomez was the driver of a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-70 on Oct was caught smuggling more than 10,000 fentanyl pills was caught with three packages of cocaine weighing just over 7 pounds one package of suspected M30 fentanyl pills weighing just over 2.5 pounds and one pressed brick of suspected purple fentanyl weighing almost 3 pounds Assistant District Attorney Joe Kirwan said a sentence of seven years is appropriate for the defendants who both pled guilty to charges of intent to deliver controlled substances sentencing the men to seven years in the Colorado Department of Corrections In another recent case involving an I-70 drug smuggler in Eagle County which came before Olguin-Fresquez in February But in that case, involving 21-year-old Jorge Cantua-Herrera who was the passenger in a vehicle carrying 2.7 pounds of fentanyl pills The judge instead gave Cantua-Herrera the minimum five-year sentence pointing out that the driver of the vehicle received an offer to plead guilty to a lesser crime and only received five years of probation As Cantua-Herrera was being stopped in January 2024, 24-year-old Estevan Osuna’s case was just wrapping up. Osuna was stopped under similar circumstances and was caught driving through Eagle County with 12.5 pounds of fentanyl. He received eight years in the Colorado Department of Corrections Del Rio-Gomez and Ramos-Palma were all arrested by members of the Gore Range Narcotic Interdiction Team a multi-jurisdictional drug task force known as GRANITE that is composed of local law enforcement partners and detectives from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and the Vail Police Department Most GRANITE cases end up being heard in the local court system where suspects will appear before district court judges like Olguin-Fresquez In July, a GRANITE officer arrested 24-year-old Angel Gabriel Valadez after stopping him on I-70 and finding 23 pounds of cocaine in the vehicle Valadez’s case was sent to federal court in October told Olguin-Fresquez that his client had been considered as a possible transfer to federal court “It was reported to us that it was going to be picked up by the federal government,” Ramos-Palma’s attorney told Olguin-Fresquez on Wednesday “But … the federal government has greatly reduced the cases Kentucky Derby Parties The 151st Kentucky Derby is set for Saturday at 4:57 p.m and here are a few places you can go for watch parties: Lookout Bar at Westin Riverfront in Avon Celebrate the Kentucky.. Have a story idea you would like to suggest La Via Campesina’s Mid-Term Conference and attended by over 70 peasant delegates from Africa expresses its solidarity with the day labourers of the SOC-SAT from Andalusia who occupied the Somontes public farm in Palma del Río for the seventh time on 26 August These 432 hectares of land owned by the Regional Government of Andalusia were occupied in March 2012 in order to stop them from being privatised and turned over to the hands of agribusiness and financial speculation Since then we have been working collectively and sustainably despite the difficulties of being subjected to various evictions police repression and the refusal of the administration to legally cede the land and allow the agroecological projects proposed by the union to be implemented La Via Campesina has re-launched its worldwide campaign for integral and popular agrarian reform in order to denounce the appropriation accumulation and commodification of land all over the planet as well as to demand the respect and implementation of the right to land on the part of States 17 of the Declaration on the Rights of Peasants for peasants and other people living in rural areas for the purpose of managing it in a sustainable manner so as to achieve an adequate standard of living a region of great wealth and abundant agricultural production has very high rates of land concentration and is one of the most economically depressed and unemployment-ridden regions in Europe we demand that the Regional Government of Andalusia cease all evictions and repression as well as the criminalisation of struggles for land and that it immediately open a dialogue with the occupants of Somontes with a view to ensuring the lawful transfer of use of the farm for the purposes of agroecological farming with the resulting creation of jobs and advancement of a model based on food sovereignty and social justice Archive Pavilions ACCIONA has reached an agreement to sell its five Plant Proteomics and Protein Structural Biology Volume 4 - 2013 | https://doi.org/10.3389/fpls.2013.00029 Protein tyrosine nitration is a post-translational modification (PTM) mediated by reactive nitrogen species (RNS) that is linked to nitro-oxidative damages in plant cells the identification of proteins undergoing this PTM under adverse environmental conditions has increased there is also a basal endogenous nitration which seems to have a regulatory function The technological advances in proteome analysis have allowed identifying these modified proteins and have shown that the number and identity of the nitrated proteins change among plant species analysed organs and growing/culture conditions the current knowledge of protein tyrosine nitration in higher plants under different situations is reviewed A relevant aspect is that tyrosine nitration is not a random process because not all Tyr residues are susceptible to nitration which depends on their accessibility to the solvent Tyrosine has a hydropathy index of −1.3 being a mildly hydrophilic amino acid and most likely exposed to the aqueous environment Examples of proteins identified in higher plants which are targets of tyrosine nitration and the effect of this PTM on their function there are different environmental conditions (hypoxia etc.) where protein tyrosine nitration has not been studied yet Nitration can also provoke a loss of function as observed for different plant enzyme activities analyzed in vitro including ascorbate peroxidase and catalase (Clark et al., 2000), S-adenosyl homocysteine hydrolase (Chaki et al., 2009b), and O-acetylserine(thiol)lyase A1 activities (Álvarez et al., 2011) The identification of specific nitroproteomes from different plant organs under natural and stress conditions will be an exciting challenge for incoming research the study of the nitroproteome at subcellular level can provide fundamental data on cell proteomics of plants under different conditions The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest Work in our laboratories has been supported by ERDF-cofinanced grants from the Ministry of Science and Innovation (BIO2009-12003-C02-01 and BIO2009-12003-C02-02 and ACI2009-0860) and Junta de Andalucía There is also a remarkable lack of labor in packing companies reducing the possibility of maintaining stable and lasting workforces over time Year-round supplyThe Cordovan company controls the entire production chain of Spanish onions pack and distribute our own onions," says Ana "Our crops are located in the provinces of Seville Its yellow onion productions in Andalusia and Castile-La Mancha make it possible to maintain a continuous year round domestic supply In order to guarantee this continuous supply the company also occasionally resorts to importing sweet onions from Peru and red onions from the Netherlands This allows it to meet the supply schedule agreed with both supermarket platforms and local markets "We have started the harvest of our own sweet and red onions with medium sizes predominating," says Ana López which is used in the fresh-cut and convenience food industry "It's usually intended for freezing companies or food processors which use it to prepare soups and gazpachos It is a very delicate product for which the cold chain needs to be maintained at all times Growth in the retail segmentDespite the difficult global situation Cebollas Lolo continues to pursue its growth strategy having achieved a spectacular 170% increase in sales last year and positioning itself as a leading company in the sector we expect our sales to increase by around 30% compared to the previous year," says the sales manager "We pursue the consolidation of our current marketing lines with a firm commitment to increasing our presence in supermarkets while still delivering the quality that sets us apart." €260 million to build which the partners reveal will be funded through project finance FCC Energía will maintain a 70% stake in the plant on completion “This partnership with Mitsui demonstrates the interest of the international investment community in Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) projects in Spain and reinforces the clear objective of FCC Group to develop its energy division,” said Eduardo Gonzalez A consortium led by FCC Industrial commenced construction of the plant in July and it is expected to become operational in December 2012 The plant will benefit from its ideal location in Palma del Río which enjoys an abundance of solar radiation and has easy access to water and gas as well as adequate power off-take structures Its developers claim that the plant will produce enough energy to meet the electricity needs of 26,000 households and avoid the emission of approximately 30,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum “We believe that CSP will be a key technology for mitigating global warming and we are proud to take part in this environmentally-friendly power generation project," said Shintaro Ambe Mitsui plans to use its experience in managing large energy and infrastructure projects "for the successful development of this initiative which will expand our global presence in the field of solar energy” Ambe also stated that the partnership complements Mitsui's business activity in the energy field in Spain where the company already owns a 1.5 MW photovoltaic plant and 18 hydro power stations (84 MW) FCC Energía focuses on the development and application of technology for generating electricity from the sun The company has 442 MW in operational wind assets and 22 MW operational PV capacity as well as two solar thermal plants (50 MW) under Harrison SAN DIEGO — You might get the idea from the title of this book that it is about a BBYO Group enjoying a favorite ride at Disneyland It tells about the war Jewish refugees waged against Portugal and Spain and their Grand Inquisitors It also offers a hint concerning the dispute between Spain and Portugal over the true nationality of 16th century explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo Although San Diego Jewish World has reviewed this book before, most notably by contributor Sheila Orysiek it was made a present to me by John Finley The story goes back to the days of the Spanish Inquisition which commenced approximately the same day in 1492 that Christopher Columbus left Spain on his voyage of discovery Jews had been ordered out of Spain and some members of Columbus’ crew were secret Jews Some historians have speculated that Columbus himself might have been a secret Jew although this has never been proven to anyone’s satisfaction The penalty for converts to Christianity subsequently convicted of “Judaizing” was to be burned at the stake One of the first reactions of the Spanish Jews and Conversos to the Edict of Expulsion was to move next door to Portugal which did not immediately follow Spain’s lead in setting up an Inquisition “The Portugals” became a code phrase for Jews leaving Jews with few places to live in safety or trying to disappear into the the New World “discovered” by Columbus The Inquisition went forward in stops and spurts with monarchs and their representatives sometimes turning blind eyes to Jews and Conversos because of their successes in establishing vast trade networks that helped to fill the coffers of the royals the nickname of “the Portugals” for secret Jews came into general usage The statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo at the Cabrillo National Monument at the mouth of San Diego Bay was erected by Portuguese in the belief that he had been a native of their country San Diego’s Portuguese community happily reenacted Cabrillo’s landing in San Diego Bay recently a document signed by Cabrillo was discovered Author Edward Kritzler unfortunately had died before that document was discovered He wrote on Page 39: “Like that of other conversos who obscured their past His written reports and navigation skills show him to be an educated man It is probable that Joao Cabrilho [as the Portuguese rendered his name] had Jewish ancestry Recent scholarship argues he was not Portuguese but Spanish-born who crossed the border to Portugal at the time of the expulsion.” Some of those Jews and Conversos who sailed on the voyages of discovery remained in Spanish and Portuguese America where once again they and their descendants were subject to the Inquisition Having obtained citizenship and religious toleration in Holland some Jews financed and participated in the Dutch war on Portuguese-claimed Brazil After capturing the Brazilian port of Recife some Jews of that community escaped to the Dutch colony of Curacao in the Caribbean while others went to the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam However the Jews appealed to the Dutch West India Company who overturned Stuyvesant and New Amsterdam (later to become New York) had its first permanent Jewish settlers It’s a matter of some interest that Jews arrived in the future United States of America before George Washington’s ancestors did Christopher Columbus was granted the hereditary ownership of the island of Jamaica to which he and his descendants welcomed Jews and Conversos Christian landowners and merchants in Jamaica conspired to bring the Catholic Church and its Inquisition to Jamaica and in the process to overthrow the Columbus family dynasty Among those who resisted were the Jews who eventually persuaded England to successfully invade the island and grant Jews full rights of citizenship and mercantile skills to the two Protestant countries that challenged the Catholic regimes that had welcomed the Inquisition Some Jews received commissions as privateers to attack enemy ships in behalf of the two Protestant countries attacking the Spanish galleons as they lumbered past Jamaica en route between Spain and the Mexican mainland which was the storehouse of the silver that was the coin of world trade Thank you both for providing the information about Wendy Kramer’s research on Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo’s Spanish nationality although apparently getting the city of his birth wrong The question that still is unanswered is whether the Spanish-born Cabrillo was in fact a member of a Converso family forced by the Inquisition to convert from Judaism Kritzler suggests that Conversos were winkingly referred to by Spaniards as “Portuguese,” perhaps giving rise to the later confusion among historians about Cabrillo’s true nationality Thank you for your article… the Maritime Museum published this year [an article] where Dr Wendy Kramer proves that Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo was born in Palma de Micer Gilio (today Palma del Rio) If you do not have time to read the whole magazine please just look at pages 16-17 (Timeline) and Appendix pages 87 through 99 (original court documents of the sixteenth century) This letter was
